    In response to conflicting findings for activity levels across sociodemographic groups, this study examined differences in adolescents' in-school, out-of-school, and weekend physical activity (PA) by sociodemographic subgroups using representative US data.

    Data were obtained from the Family Life, Activity, Sun, Health, and Eating study. Multiple regression models compared in-school, out-of-school, and weekend PA by gender and race/ethnicity, and examined potential modification of associations by grade (middle vs high school) and socioeconomic status (lower vs higher).

    Final analytic sample was 1413 adolescents (Mean age = 14.5y, 51.3% female, 64.5% white). Compared with whites, in-school PA was significantly higher among blacks and those classified as other race/ethnicity for middle school (69.8 and 71.0, respectively, vs 66.4min/d), and among Hispanics for high school (52.7 vs 48.4min/d). Hispanics' (vs whites') out-of-school PA was significantly lower for middle school (63.7 vs 66.6min/d), but higher for high school (54.0 vs 51.8min/d). In-school PA was significantly higher among adolescents of lower (vs higher) socioeconomic status among males and Hispanics (all Ps < .05).

We argue that it is possible for human perceivers to monitor information coming from distinct organs, despite their integration, as exhibited and measured through metacognitive performance. Based on the vestibular case, we suggest that metacognitive awareness of the information coming from sensory organs constitutes a new criterion to individuate a sense through both physiological and personal criteria. Here, we explore the efficacy of understanding sensory substitution as a form of 'artificial synaesthesia'.     Seventy-two children with intellectual disabilities and 72 healthy children were included in the study. They ranged in age from 5 to 18 years with the same distribution by age and sex. Standard clinical examination was performed, at a dental clinic or in the institution where the children lived, by using a dental mirror and a probe, according the European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry judgment criteria for MIH.

    Among the 72 children with intellectual disabilities, eight children (11.1%) presented MIH with 19 affected teeth. In the control group, one child (1.4%) presented MIH with two affected teeth. The difference was statistically significant (
    = 0.033). There were no statistically significant differences between boys and girls. The molars, especially the first right molars were the most affected tooth. Brown defects were less common than white defects.

However, research to support these anecdotal claims is limited. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to assess the differences between the conventional deadlift (CD) and the sumo deadlift (SD) in barefoot and shod conditions. On day one, one-repetition maximums (1 RM) were assessed for thirty subjects in both the CD and SD styles. At least 72 h later, subjects returned to perform five repetitions in four different conditions (barefoot and shod for both CD and SD) at 70% 1 RM. A 2 × 2 (footwear × lifting style) MANOVA was used to assess differences between peak vertical ground reaction force (VGRF), total mechanical work (WORK), barbell vertical displacement (DISP), peak vertical velocity (PV) and lift time (TIME) during the concentric phase. The CD displayed significant increases in VGRF, DISP, WORK, and TIME over the SD. The shod condition displayed increased WORK, DISP, and TIME compared to the barefoot condition. This study suggests that lifting barefoot does not improve performance as no differences in VGRF or PV were evident. Complication incidence rates were consistent with other published SCS literature. Findings suggest 10 kHz SCS provides safe and durable pain relief in pragmatic populations of chronic pain patients. In addition, the common techniques to evaluate the stability of nanofluids are undertaken by using visual observation, TEM, FESEM, XRD, zeta potential analysis, and UV-Vis spectroscopy. Prior investigations revealed that the type of nanoparticle, particle volume concentration, size and shape of particles, temperature, and base fluids highly influence the thermo-physical properties of nanofluids. The neutralizing antibody response induced by the SME-VLPs was similar to that induced by the inactivated oil vaccine (OEV) of GX-YL5, and higher than those induced by the SM-VLPs, ME-VLPs and commercial live vaccine H120. More importantly, the SME-VLPs elicited higher percentages of CD4+ and CD8+ T lymphocytes than the SM-VLPs, ME-VLPs and OEV of GX-YL5. Compared with the OEV of GX-YL5, higher levels of IL-4 and IFN-γ were also induced by the SME-VLPs. It is caused by genetic mosaicism in GNAQ and GNA11 genes. Histopathology is the gold standard for assessment of PWS but it is invasive and may cause scarring. Inadequate characterization of the lesions may predispose to inadequate treatment protocols as well as higher treatment dosages. Patients who have symptomatic lumbar spine disorders at presentation are eligible for the trial if there is clinical uncertainty about the need for imaging (MRI or CT). Patients are excluded who required immediate referral for imaging (those who had signs suggestive of serious abnormalities or disease or who required surgical intervention), who have undergone MR imaging or CT of the spine within 1 year, who do not need imaging, and who have pain of a nonspinal origin. The primary outcome measure is the Aberdeen Low **** Pain (ALBP) score. Other principal outcome measure is the Short Form 36.

    Numerous investigations have been performed to explore candidate biomarker proteins in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patients, which could predict the response to chemoradiotherapy (CRT). Here we report a patient with unresectable ESCC who had unsatisfactory effects with radiotherapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy. We performed genetic analysis in this patient to gain insights about the cause of the rapid progression.

    A 65-year-old man presented with food obstruction, hoarse voice and choking on drinking water for 2 months, and pain behind the breastbone for 1 month.

    The patient was clinically diagnosed with ESCC and staged as T4N1M1 Stage IV.

    The patient was treated with CRT and immunotherapy. Mutational analyses through high throughput DNA sequencing methodology (next generation sequencing; NGS) was performed on the patient's blood sample.

    The tumor progressed rapidly during the treatment period, and the patient passed away only 3 months from the onset of symptoms.

    Although the role of TP53 gene and PIK3CA gene in the progression, treatment and sensitivity of esophageal cancer has been studied, the mechanism of their simultaneous appearance has not been demonstrated in relevant studies. We speculate that the reason for the rapid progression in this patient during active treatment might be related to this. Further studies are needed to validate our observations.

    Interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS) is a rare sarcoma that originates from interdigitating dendritic cells in lymphoid tissue, the imaging characteristics of which are poorly defined. Pathological examination can identify the tumor, but reports on the imaging characteristics of IDCS are limited.

    Here, we report a case of IDCS in a 48-year-old female involving the retroperitoneal area. The patient had a lumbar mass on her right lower **** for 4 years, and which started increasing in size 1 year before.

    An irregular soft tissue mass (10.1cm × 8.5 cm in size) in the right lower **** of retroperitoneum was detected by CT examination with unclear borders, uneven density, and necrosis. The solid components of the mass were significantly enhanced on postcontrast imaging. The soft tissue was irregular and uneven. Cystic solid masses were observed on MRI examination in the right retroperitoneum, lateral abdominal wall, waist, and ****. Necrosis, hemorrhage, and cystic transformation were observed inside the lesion.

  • Alcohol consumption during pregnancy constitutes one of the leading preventable causes of birth defects and neurodevelopmental disorders in the exposed children. Fatty acid ethyl esters (FAEEs), ethyl glucuronide (EtG) and ethyl sulfate (EtS) have been studied as potential biomarkers of alcohol consumption. However, most analytical approaches proposed for their analysis in meconium samples consist of separated extraction procedures requiring the use of two meconium aliquots, which is costly in terms of both time and materials. Therefore, the aim of this study was to develop and validate a method for the simultaneous extraction of 9 FAEEs, EtG and EtS from one meconium aliquot. The sample was homogenized using methanol, and then FAEEs were extracted with hexane while EtG and EtS were isolated using acetonitrile. Then, extracts were applied to solid-phase extraction columns and analysed by gas chromatography mass spectrometry (FAEEs) and liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (EtG and EtS). Calibration curves were linear with r values greater than 0.99. The LODs ranged from 0.8 to 7.5 ng/g for FAEEs and were 0.2 ng/g and 0.8 ng/g for EtS and EtG, respectively. Genetic deletions of dfcA and dfcB abolished the production of compounds 1-5 that implied their involvement in the biosynthesis of coprogens. Interestingly, cultivations of ΔdfcA and ΔdfcB mutants with pathogenic fungi Fusarium oxysporum and Mucor corcinelloides showed the weaker inhibitions in comparison to wild type that demonstrated coprogen's role in combating the pathogenic fungi. Our study not only enriched the diversities of siderophores but also provided an approach for finding the rare amphiphilic coprogen siderophores in fungi.     Crude prevalence of osteoporosis was 12.99% in the whole subjects, 4.42% for men, and 19.08% for women by WHO criteria at various skeletal regions (among lumbar spine, femoral neck, and tottion should be focused on the elderly or female residents to promote the formulation of healthy lifestyle.     The prevalence of osteoporosis and osteopenia was high among residents in Chongqing, China. Health education and behavior intervention should be focused on the elderly or female residents to promote the formulation of healthy lifestyle. Necessary steps are needed for more public education and a wider dissemination of information about osteoporosis and its prevention.In this study, we use a statistical approach based on generalized additive models, linking atmospheric circulation and the number of influenza-related hospital admissions in the Spanish Iberian Peninsula during 2003-2013. The relative risks are estimated for administrative units in the Spanish territory, which is politically structured into 15 regions called autonomous communities. A catalog of atmospheric circulation types is defined for this purpose. The relationship between the exposure and response variables is modeled using a distributed lag nonlinear model (DLNM). Types from southwest and anticyclonic are significant in terms of the probability of having more influenza-related hospital admissions for all of Spain. The heterogeneity of the results is very high. The relative risk is also estimated for each autonomous community and weather type, with the maximum number of influenza-related hospital admissions associated with circulation types from the southwest and the south. We identify six specific situations where relative risk is considered extreme and twelve with a high risk of increasing influenza-related hospital admissions. The rest of the situations present a moderate risk. Atmospheric local conditions become a key factor for understanding influenza spread in each spatial unit of the Peninsula.     Alcohol consumption during pregnancy constitutes one of the leading preventable causes of birth defects and neurodevelopmental disorders in the exposed children. Fatty acid ethyl esters (FAEEs), ethyl glucuronide (EtG) and ethyl sulfate (EtS) have been studied as potential biomarkers of alcohol consumption. However, most analytical approaches proposed for their analysis in meconium samples consist of separated extraction procedures requiring the use of two meconium aliquots, which is costly in terms of both time and materials. Therefore, the aim of this study was to develop and validate a method for the simultaneous extraction of 9 FAEEs, EtG and EtS from one meconium aliquot. The sample was homogenized using methanol, and then FAEEs were extracted with hexane while EtG and EtS were isolated using acetonitrile. Then, extracts were applied to solid-phase extraction columns and analysed by gas chromatography mass spectrometry (FAEEs) and liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (EtG and EtS). Calibration curves were linear with r values greater than 0.99. The LODs ranged from 0.8 to 7.5 ng/g for FAEEs and were 0.2 ng/g and 0.8 ng/g for EtS and EtG, respectively. The structures of three new coprogens were elucidated by NMR spectroscopy, and high-resolution (HR)-ESI-MS analysis. Genetic deletions of dfcA and dfcB abolished the production of compounds 1-5 that implied their involvement in the biosynthesis of coprogens. Interestingly, cultivations of ΔdfcA and ΔdfcB mutants with pathogenic fungi Fusarium oxysporum and Mucor corcinelloides showed the weaker inhibitions in comparison to wild type that demonstrated coprogen's role in combating the pathogenic fungi. Our study not only enriched the diversities of siderophores but also provided an approach for finding the rare amphiphilic coprogen siderophores in fungi. Furthermore, this work provided a basis for investigation on the biosynthesis of fungal amphiphilic siderophores and their ecological roles in nature.   • Metal nanomaterials have been widely used to generate photoacoustic (PA) signals because of their high optical absorption characteristics. However, the PA conversion efficiency of metal nanomaterials is limited by the single-wavelength absorption at the resonant peak. To mitigate this issue, a three-layer ultrathin film containing a thin PDMS layer sandwiched between two ultrathin chromium films is proposed. This kind of film structure can attain high optical absorbance (>80%) through the visible light range (450-850 nm). The optical absorption characteristics can be easily modulated by varying the thickness of the PDMS layer. Under the same excitation condition, the PA signal generated by this film structure is twice that of an only Cr film and three times that of an only Au film. This film structure is easily fabricated and can operate with lasers having different central wavelengths or even white light sources, leading to its applications in many fields, including photoacoustic communications and audio transducers.We present a holmium-doped all-fiber master oscillator power amplifier (MOPA) system operating at 2108 nm targeting optical frequency conversion applications. The MOPA delivers pulses of 0.52 mJ energy at 10 kHz repetition rate after three amplification stages, with a close to square-shaped temporal profile of 50 ns duration, diffraction-limited beam quality and linear polarization. Challenges with achieving high gain and efficiency in the final amplification stage are discussed and attributed to quenching effects inferred from measurements of non-saturable absorption in the holmium fibers. Using this MOPA, we demonstrate a mid-IR conversion efficiency of 59% by direct pumping of a ZnGeP2 optical parametric oscillator.We investigate the topological skin effect in a ring resonator array which can be mapped into the square root of a Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model with non-Hermitian asymmetric coupling. The asymmetric coupling is realized by integrating the same amount of gain and loss into the two half perimeters of linking rings that effectively couple two adjacent site rings. Such a square-root topological insulator inherits the properties from its parent Hamiltonian, which has the same phase transition points and exhibits non-Bloch features as well. We show the band closing points for open chain are different from that of periodic chain as a result of the skin effect. Moreover, the square-root insulator supports multiple topological edge modes as the number of band gaps is doubled compared to the original Hamiltonian. The full-wave simulations agree well with the theoretical analyses based on a tight-binding model. The study provides a promising approach to investigate the skin effect by utilizing ring resonators and may find potential applications in light trapping, lasers, and filters.We experimentally demonstrate an ultra-low-noise pre-amplification using a non-degenerate phase-sensitive amplifier (ND-PSA) with an optically dispersion-unmanaged link. Measured losses of 1.95 dB and 2.45 dB were obtained for a 1 m long GTMW with bore size varying from 2.6 mm to 1.6 mm under straight and one circle bending configuration. Measured losses were 4.48 dB/m and 7.78 dB/m for 1.6 mm bore CBMW under the same straight and bend configurations. Owing to higher energy concentration at the output, a larger penetration ability of output wave can be achieved by GTMW, which is beneficial for imaging application. A scanning imaging system was established using fabricated waveguides as the probes. Measured results show that the air slits of the order of wavelength can be clearly distinguished. An imaging system with a GTMW probe also has better performances due to lower bending loss and improved coupling efficiency.The widely used lenslet-bound definition of the Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor (SHWS) dynamic range is based on the permanent association between groups of pixels and individual lenslets. Here, we formalize an alternative definition that we term optical dynamic range, based on avoiding the overlap of lenslet images. The comparison of both definitions for Zernike polynomials up to the third order plus spherical aberration shows that the optical dynamic range is larger by a factor proportional to the number of lenslets across the SHWS pupil. Finally, a pre-centroiding algorithm to facilitate lenslet image location in the presence of defocus and astigmatism is proposed. This approach, based on the SHWS image periodicity, is demonstrated using optometric lenses that translate lenslet images outside the projected lenslet boundaries.

  • There are many barriers to deprescribing in the routine care of older inpatients with polypharmacy. Implementation is limited by factors related to clinicians, patients, and the acute care setting. A short (11min) e-learning module for multidisciplinary hospital clinicians was developed to address two commonly reported barriers awareness of polypharmacy and self-efficacy in deprescribing.

    1) Describe the level of awareness of polypharmacy and self-efficacy of deprescribing in multi-disciplinary hospital clinicians following completion of an online e-learning module; and 2) describe the immediate impact of an online educational module in awareness and self-efficacy of polypharmacy and deprescribing in senior medical students.

    A questionnaire was developed and administered to hospital clinicians following completion of the e-learning module. Senior medical students undertook the questionnaire pre- and post-module.

    We aimed to study the risk factors of erectile dysfunction (ED) and different patterns of phosphodiestrase type 5 inhibitors (PDE5is) usage among Egyptian patients.

    One thousand five hundred consecutive Egyptian patients complaining of ED were included in this cross-sectional study from July (2014) to October (2015). Patients were requested to answer the international index of erectile function questionnaire (IIEF-5). Statistical differences between groups were tested using Chi square test and Spearman's rho correlation coefficient for qualitative variables.

    Remarkably, significant associations between IIEF scores and aging and diabetes mellitus (DM) and hypertension (HTN) and ischaemic heart disease (IHD) and hyperlipidaemia were shown in the studied patients (p<.0001, p<.0001, p<.0001, p<.0001, p<.0001, respectively). Eventually, our study showed significant correlations between different age groups and morning erection and lower urinary tract symptoms and HTN and IHD and DM where the severity of ED was directly proportional to the absence or decreased strength of morning erection with aging and the increased incidence of LUTS and HTN and IHD and DM with aging (p<.0001; p=.001; p<.0001; p<.0001; p<.0001, respectively).

    The indeterminate pulmonary nodule is a common clinical problem. Preoperative tissue diagnosis is not always possible, despite all attempts. The objectives of this study were to determine the frequency of a malignant diagnosis in this scenario and whether attempted preoperative biopsy impacted estimation of the risk of malignancy.

    We reviewed 500 consecutive cases of pulmonary resection without a preoperative tissue diagnosis at a tertiary care center from 2009 to 2013. Age, sex, smoking status, prior malignancy, tumor size, and whether or not tissue diagnosis had been attempted were recorded. Logistic regression models were constructed to determine factors associated with a malignant diagnosis.

    There were 297 males (59.4%), the mean age was 64.9 years, and 412 had a smoking history (82.4%). Also, 203 patients (40.6%) had a malignancy history, and 36 patients (7.2%) had previous lung cancer. Biopsy was attempted for 102 patients (20.5%). The final diagnosis was lung cancer in 336 patients (67.2%), metastatic cancer in 93 patients (18.6%), and benign tumour in 71 patients (14.2%). Male sex, increasing age, smoking history, and prior lung cancer were positive predictors of lung cancer. Model discrimination was good (c-statistic, 0.83). Attempted biopsy did not alter model discrimination.

    We sought to analyze the usefulness of pretreatment C-reactive protein (CRP) as a predictor of survival and oncological outcomes in patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC).

    Retrospective international analysis of patients with RCC with pretreatment CRP values from 2006 to 2017. A CRP of more than >5 mg/L was deemed elevated. The cohort was subdivided into 2 groups for analysis (normal CRP ≤5 mg/L; elevated CRP >5). Primary outcome was overall survival (OS) and secondary outcome was recurrence-free survival (RFS). The indeterminate pulmonary nodule is a common clinical problem. Preoperative tissue diagnosis is not always possible, despite all attempts. The objectives of this study were to determine the frequency of a malignant diagnosis in this scenario and whether attempted preoperative biopsy impacted estimation of the risk of malignancy. We reviewed 500 consecutive cases of pulmonary resection without a preoperative tissue diagnosis at a tertiary care center from 2009 to 2013. Age, sex, smoking status, prior malignancy, tumor size, and whether or not tissue diagnosis had been attempted were recorded. Logistic regression models were constructed to determine factors associated with a malignant diagnosis. There were 297 males (59.4%), the mean age was 64.9 years, and 412 had a smoking history (82.4%). Also, 203 patients (40.6%) had a malignancy history, and 36 patients (7.2%) had previous lung cancer. Biopsy was attempted for 102 patients (20.5%). The final diagnosis was lung cancer in 336 patients (67.2%), metastatic cancer in 93 patients (18.6%), and benign tumour in 71 patients (14.2%). In a single session, CLF presents psychoeducational information about the VCL, discusses the participant's perceived barriers and facilitators to future use of the VCL, and culminates in the Veteran calling the VCL with the therapist to provide firsthand experiences that may counter negative impressions of the line. The intervention development process, intervention and control condition, and self-reported change indices are presented. Preliminary results (N = 301) suggest Veterans receiving CLF may experience a significant increase in comfort with, and confidence in, using the VCL during future crises compared to those in the control condition.This is a paper about mark making and human becoming. I will be asking what do marks do? How do they signify? What role do marks play in human becoming and the evolution of human intelligence? These questions cannot be pursued effectively from the perspective of any single discipline or ontology. Nonetheless, they are questions that archaeology has a great deal to contribute. They are also important questions, if not the least because evidence of early mark making constitutes the favoured archaeological mark of the 'cognitive' (in the 'modern' representational sense of the word). In this paper I want to argue that the archaeological predilection to see mark making as a potential index of symbolic representation often blind us to other, more basic dimensions of the cognitive life and agency of those marks as material signs. Drawing on enactive cognitive science and Material Engagement Theory I will show that early markings, such as the famous engravings from Blombos cave, are above all the products of kinesthetic dynamics of a non-representational sort that allow humans to engage and discover the semiotic affordances of mark making opening up new possibilities of enactive material signification. I will also indicate some common pitfalls in the way archaeology thinks about the 'cognitive' that needs overcome.Archaeological evidence suggests that important shifts were taking place in the character of human social behaviours 300,000 to 30,000 years ago. New artefact types appear and are disseminated with greater frequency. Transfers of both raw materials and finished artefacts take place over increasing distances, implying larger scales of regional mobility and more frequent and friendlier interactions between different communities. Whilst these changes occur during a period of increasing environmental variability, the relationship between ecological changes and transformations in social behaviours is elusive. Here, we explore a possible theoretical approach and methodology for understanding how ecological contexts can influence selection pressures acting on intergroup social behaviours. We focus on the relative advantages and disadvantages of intergroup tolerance in different ecological contexts using agent-based modelling (ABM). We assess the relative costs and benefits of different 'tolerance' levels in between-group interactions on survival and resource exploitation in different environments. The results enable us to infer a potential relationship between ecological changes and proposed changes in between-group behavioural dynamics. We conclude that increasingly harsh environments may have driven changes in hormonal and emotional responses in humans leading to increasing intergroup tolerance, i.e. transformations in social behaviour associated with 'self-domestication'. We argue that changes in intergroup tolerance is a more parsimonious explanation for the emergence of what has been seen as 'modern human behaviour' than changes in hard aspects of cognition or other factors such as cognitive adaptability or population size.

Here, we are reviewing the current state of affairs with its problems and promises, looking at various molecule types. Reported results are evaluated in the overall context. Also, we are proposing steps toward clinical utility that should advance the development toward clinical application by improving biomarker quality but also by defining distinct clinical objectives and the respective diagnostic accuracies required to achieve them. Many of the discussed points and conclusions are highly relevant to other solid tumors, too.
    An infraoptic course of the anterior cerebral artery (ACA) is a rare cerebrovascular variation that can be associated with anterior communicating artery aneurysm. The purpose of this study is 1. Describe infraoptic ACA or Carotid-ACA anastomosis. 2. Discuss the embryology. 3. Demonstrate this rare variation on CT/MR angiography. 4. Discuss its clinical significance. 5. Understand the anatomy for appropriate management of associated vascular pathology (Anterior communicating aneurysm). 6.

    We describe 2 cases with CT/MR angiographic findings of this rare vascular variation along with review of embryology and literature.

    Generally, ACA arises from the internal carotid artery (ICA) terminus and runs medially superior to the optic nerves and communicates with contralateral ACA through the anterior communicating artery. An infraoptic course of the A1 segment of the ACA is associated with a low ICA bifurcation, usually located intradurally at or just above the level of the origin of the ophthalmic artery. Rarerally. Abberant ACA course has been shown to be associated with aneurysms which needs prompt recognition, to allow optimum treatment planning (surgical/endovascular). Our first case has bilateral infraoptic ACA seen on CT angiography. The second case has ipsilateral (right) infraoptic ACA with associated anterior communicating artery aneurysm.
    We aim to study if direct patient notification in accordance with the Patient Test Results Information Act (Act 112) in Pennsylvania leads to decreased loss to follow up and prompt management of actionable imaging findings.

    For this IRB-approved study, radiology reports were randomly identified using the Nuance mPower™ search engine. The actionable finding group (prior to Act-112) contained 300 patients for which a voice notification was sent by radiologists to alert ordering physicians about significant imaging findings. The PTRIA group (after Act-112) contained 300 patients who were mailed a standardized letter one day after the final report was issued. The electronic medical records were reviewed to evaluate how patients were managed.

    There was no difference in loss to follow up rates and time to follow up completion between the two groups. In both groups, 34% of patients were lost to follow up in transition of care from generalists to specialists; 24% cases were lost to follow up when imaging findings were not in the area of the initial ordering provider expertise.

    The goal of Act 112 is to increase patients' role in the timely management of their significant medical conditions and prevent medical errors, specifically loss to follow up. Our study suggests that presumed patients' awareness does not contribute to improved follow up rates or decreased time to a follow up visit. 13% of patients are lost to follow up in both groups. A tracking system is required to prevent delayed management of the significant findings.

    To report imaging findings at computed tomography angiography (CTA) and venography (CTV) of the abdomen and pelvis in evaluation of hemorrhagic and thrombotic lesions in hospitalized patients with COVID-19.

    In this retrospective observational study, patients admitted to a single tertiary care center from April 1 to July 20, 2020, who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 and developed acute abdominal pain or decreasing hemoglobin levels over the course of hospitalization were included. Abdominal CTA/CTV imaging studies performed in these patients were reviewed, and acute hemorrhagic or thromboembolic findings were recorded.

    A total of 40 patients (mean age, 59.7years; 20 men, 20 women) were evaluated. Twenty-five patients (62.5%) required intensive care unit (ICU) admission and 15 patients (37.5%) were treated in the medical ward. Hemorrhagic complications were detected in 19 patients (47.5%), the most common was intramuscular hematoma diagnosed in 17 patients; It involved the iliopsoas compartment unilaterally in 10 patients, bilaterally in 2 patients and the rectus sheath in 5 cases. https://www.selleckchem.com/EGFR(HER).html Pelvic extraperitoneal hemorrhage was found in 3 patients, and mesenteric hematoma in one patient. Thromboembolic events were diagnosed in 8 patients (20%) including; arterial thrombosis (n=2), venous thrombosis (n=2), splenic infarct (n=1), bowel ischemia (n=1) and multiple sites of thromboembolism (n=2). Our study highlights that both hemorrhagic and thromboembolic complications can be seen in hospitalized patients with COVID-19. It is important that radiologists maintain a high index of suspicion for early diagnosis of these complications.
