The prevalence of obesity has tripled in the past forty years and continues to rise. Eosinophils have recently been implicated in providing a protective role against obesity. Decreasing eosinophils exacerbates weight gain and contributes to glucose intolerance in high fat diet-induced obese animals, while increasing eosinophils prevents high-fat diet-induced adipose tissue and body weight gain. Human studies, however, do not support a protective role for eosinophils in obesity. More recent animal studies have also reported conflicting results. Considering these contradictory findings, the relationship between eosinophils and obesity may not be unidirectional. In this mini-review, we summarize a recent debate regarding the role of adipose tissue eosinophils in metabolic disorders, and discuss local and systemic effects of eosinophils in obesity. Given that adipose eosinophils play a role in tissue homeostasis, more research is needed to understand the primary function of adipose tissue eosinophils in their microenvironment. Using a sample of young students in high school or college (N = 686), the present study found significant indirect effects between deficient life skills (agency and structure) and various aspects of an extremist mindset through moral disengagement. These findings suggest that these two psychological concepts of life skills and moral disengagement are relevant for understanding and countering violent radicalization processes; that is to say that morality can direct the life skills toward either violent extremism or nonviolent, legal civil participation. Within person development was characterized by profile stability or transfer to the Social-Focus profile. Younger children were more likely to have an Undifferentiated profile (or Self-Focus among boys) than older ones. Girls were more likely to have a Social-Focus profile or transfer to it, and less likely to have a Self- or Growth-Focus profile than boys. Moreover, they have been shown to interact with other players in these cascades, such as fibrinogen and the urokinase-type plasminogen activator/urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor system, which further promotes coagulation and fibrinolysis. Although primarily thought of in the contexts of blood clotting and vascular repair, coagulation and fibrinolytic systems play key roles within tissue, in particular during epithelial injury and remodeling. Chronic inflammation and remodeling frequently associate with pro-thrombotic and pro-coagulation state. There is a striking association between eosinophils and dysregulated coagulation in animal models and human disease. This review will examine the mechanistic links between eosinophils and the coagulation system in the context of epithelial injury and repair, as well as evidence for this interaction in heart disease, type 2 inflammatory diseases, and cancer. MATERIAL AND METHODS The study is a prospective, multicenter, case-control study conducted at Ospedale Santa Chiara in Trento and Novara and Pavia University Hospitals. 76 consecutive patients with a biopsy-confirmed diagnosis of low-risk endometrial cancer or atypical endometrial hyperplasia who had undergone robotic total laparoscopic hysterectomy and sentinel lymph node mapping were included between January 2017 and January 2019. Data on surgical outcomes, quality of life and cosmetic results were prospectively collected and analyzed based on the surgical approach with robotic single-site vs robotic multiport assistance. Patients' clinical characteristics, intraoperative parameters, sentinel lymph node mapping results and postoperative findings were prospin, cosmetic results and quality of life comparisons. CONCLUSIONS For the treatment of low-risk endometrial cancer and atypical endometrial hyperplasia with total hysterectomy and sentinel lymph node mapping, the robotic single-port approach is comparable with the multiport procedure in terms of intraoperative and postoperative findings, and has an advantage in terms of shorter surgical times.   • The aim of this study was to pre-operatively investigate the diagnostic performance of 2D shear wave elastography (2D-SWE) for staging liver fibrosis and inflammation in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) who then undergo surgery and to determine the optimal locations for measurement. In total, 106 patients were enrolled in this prospective study from March 2017 to May 2018. Two-dimensional SWE was used to measure liver stiffness (LS) in each patient 0-1, 1-2 and 2-5 cm from the tumor border (groups 1, 2 and 3, respectively). Spearman's correlation was used to evaluate the relationships between LS and hepatic fibrosis and between LS and inflammation. Receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis was used to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of 2D-SWE. The technical success rate of SWE in tissue distant from the tumor (group 3) was significantly higher than that in peri-tumoral tissue (groups 1 and 2) (p less then 0.001). Moreover, the area under the ROC for diagnosing cirrhosis (F4) and severe inflammation (A3) was higher for group 3 than for groups 1 and 2. Our results suggest that 2D-SWE is a helpful approach to assessment of hepatic fibrosis in HCC patients before hepatic resection. We found that to achieve a superior success rate and preferable diagnosis accuracy for patients with HCC, LS measurement should be performed 2-5 cm from the tumor margin. The aim of the study described here was to investigate, using 2-D speckle-tracking echocardiography, whether myocardial infarction (MI) leads to diminished left atrial function in diabetic patients by comparison with non-diabetic patients. A total of 310 consecutive patients were divided into four groups based on the presence or absence of diabetes mellitus (DM) and acute ST-elevation MI. In the adjusted analysis, systolic and early diastolic strain and strain rate were reduced in the diabetic patients. Additionally, all deformation markers were impaired in the patients with MI. The DM-MI interaction was not statistically significant. Although reservoir, conduit and contraction functions of the left atrium were reduced in the patients with MI, left atrial reservoir and conduit functions were decreased in the diabetic patients. The reduction in left atrial function caused by MI was similar for diabetic and non-diabetic patients. Thus, DM and MI additively damaged left atrial function. The use of transabdominal color Doppler ultrasound after oral administration of an oral cellulose-based contrast agent (TUS-OCCA) in depicting varices at the cardia and fundus was explored. Both gastroscopy and transabdominal color Doppler ultrasound (TUS) were performed for this purpose, with gastroscopy serving as the gold standard. Patients were assigned by TUS protocol to one of three groups TUS + empty stomach (TUS-ES); TUS + oral water intake (TUS-OW); and TUS-OCCA. TUS-based grading of varices reflected venous diameters and blood flow velocities, designated as follows Ux = difficulty discerning gastric fundus and cardia or delineating varices; U0 = no detectable varices; U1 = diameter TUS-ES, p less then 0.05). TUS-based grading (as defined) revealed the following patient distribution Ux, n = 34; U0, n = 18; U1, n = 50; U2, n = 41; U3, n = 16; U4, n = 46; U5, n = 34. In grading by variceal diameter, overall correspondence between TUS and gastroscopy was 93% (174/187). TUS-OCCA greatly improved rates of detection of varices at the cardia and fundus, offering a new method by which diagnosis and quantitative grading may be achieved and affording an excellent, non-invasive approach to dynamic follow-up. Here, proteins involved in sulfur-containing amino acid uptake in Escherichia coli strains were investigated with the aim of applying the findings in fermentative amino acid production. A search of genes in an l-methionine auxotrophic strain library suggested YecSC as the putative transporter of l-cystathionine. l-Methionine production increased by 15% after amplification of yecSC in producer strains. A candidate protein responsible for l-cysteine uptake was also found by experimentation with multicopy suppressor E. coli strains that recovered from growth defects caused by l-cysteine auxotrophy. Based on the results of an uptake assay, growth using l-cysteine as a sole sulfur source, and sensitivity to l-cysteine toxicity, we proposed that YeaN is an l-cysteine transporter. l-Cysteine production increased by 50% as a result of disrupting yeaN in producer strain. Risk factors for BPD have been described in the era before the widespread availability of non-invasive ventilation (NIV) in the delivery room (DR). The objective of this study is to identify risk factors for Moderate/Severe BPD in an era of widespread availability of NIV in the DR. METHODS Detailed antenatal and postnatal data were abstracted for PTIs, 230/7-276/7 weeks GA. Multivariate logistic regression and classification and regression tree analyses (CART) identified predictors for the primary outcome of Moderate/Severe BPD. RESULTS Of 263 eligible infants, 59% had Moderate/Severe BPD. Moderate/Severe BPD was significantly associated with birthweight, gender, DR intubation and surfactant compared to No/Mild BPD. Of infants not intubated in the DR, 40% with No/Mild BPD and 80% with Moderate/Severe BPD received intubation by 48 hours (p  less then  0.05). Infants with Moderate/Severe BPD received longty of BPD. V.OBJECTIVE In this study we aimed to propose a new computed tomography-based hemodynamic indicator to quantify the functional significance of aortic dissection and predict post intervention luminal remodeling. METHODS Computational hemodynamics and 3D structural analyses were conducted in 51 patients with type B aortic dissection, at initial presentation and at approximately 1 month, 3 months, and 1 year post intervention. A functional index was proposed on the basis of luminal pressure difference. Statistical relationships between the proposed indicator and longitudinal luminal development were analyzed. RESULTS The computed luminal pressure difference (true lumen pressure minus false lumen pressure) varied overall from positive to negative along the aorta. The first balance position at which the pressure difference equals 0 was proposed as the functional indicator. A more distally located first balance position indicated better functional status. Implantation of stent graft distally shifted this balance position.

They are associated with long-term disability, but the factors affecting the dynamic of the infarcted lesion and the brain imaging features associated with them, reflective of small vessel disease (SVD) severity, are still largely unknown. We investigated whether the distribution, volume and 1-year evolution of white matter hyperintensities (WMH), one of these SVD features, relate to the extent and location of these infarcts, accounting for vascular risk factors. We used imaging and clinical data from all patients [n = 118, mean age 64.9 (SD 11.75) years old] who presented to a regional hospital with a lacunar stroke syndrome within the years 2010 and 2013 and consented to participate in a study of stroke mechanisms. All patients had a brain MRI scan at presentation, and 88 had another scan 12 months after. Acute lesions (i.e., recent small subcortical infarcts, RSSI) were identified in 79 patients and lacunes in 77. Number of lacunes was associated with bg to the clinic with lacunar strokes, lacunar strokes extent influenced WMH volume fate; and RSSI location and WMH spatial distribution and dynamics were intertwined, with differential patterns emerging in the presence of vascular risk factors. These results, if confirmed in wider samples, open potential avenues in stroke rehabilitation to be explored further.The anatomical structures of the superior sagittal sinus (SSS) are usually damaged during mechanical thrombectomy (MT), and MT procedure could lead to new thrombosis in the sinuses. However, the mechanism remains unclear. We aimed to investigate the risks of embolism and assess the damage to chordae willisii (CW)-associated MT using a stent passing across the thrombus. A contrast-enhanced in vitro model was used to mimick MT in the SSS. The thrombus was removed with a stent. The emboli generated during the procedure were collected and measured. The residual thrombus area after the MT was measured by J Image software. The damage of CW was evaluated by an endoscope. Three procedural experiments were carried out on each cadaveric sample. The average numbers of visible emboli particles in experiments 1, 2, and 3 were 11.17 ± 2.17, 9.00 ± 2.07, and 5.00 ± 2.96, respectively. The number of large size particles produced by experiment 1 was significantly higher than that of the other experiments. The thrombus area measured after experiment 3 was larger than that of experiments 1 and 2. The number of minor damage cases to CW was 55 (90.16%), and there were six serious damage cases (9.84%). The use of stent resulted in no significant increase in damage to CW after the three experimental procedures. A large amount of thrombi particles was produced during MT, and multiple MT procedures on the same sample can increase residual thrombus area. We investigated whether the distribution, volume and 1-year evolution of white matter hyperintensities (WMH), one of these SVD features, relate to the extent and location of these infarcts, accounting for vascular risk factors. We used imaging and clinical data from all patients [n = 118, mean age 64.9 (SD 11.75) years old] who presented to a regional hospital with a lacunar stroke syndrome within the years 2010 and 2013 and consented to participate in a study of stroke mechanisms. All patients had a brain MRI scan at presentation, and 88 had another scan 12 months after. Acute lesions (i.e., recent small subcortical infarcts, RSSI) were identified in 79 patients and lacunes in 77. A contrast-enhanced in vitro model was used to mimick MT in the SSS. The thrombus was removed with a stent. The emboli generated during the procedure were collected and measured. The residual thrombus area after the MT was measured by J Image software. The damage of CW was evaluated by an endoscope. Three procedural experiments were carried out on each cadaveric sample. The average numbers of visible emboli particles in experiments 1, 2, and 3 were 11.17 ± 2.17, 9.00 ± 2.07, and 5.00 ± 2.96, respectively. The number of large size particles produced by experiment 1 was significantly higher than that of the other experiments. The thrombus area measured after experiment 3 was larger than that of experiments 1 and 2. The number of minor damage cases to CW was 55 (90.16%), and there were six serious damage cases (9.84%). The use of stent resulted in no significant increase in damage to CW after the three experimental procedures. A large amount of thrombi particles was produced during MT, and multiple MT procedures on the same sample can increase residual thrombus area.   • The fermion doubling theorem plays a pivotal role in Hermitian topological materials. It states, for example, that Weyl points must come in pairs in three-dimensional semimetals. Here, we present an extension of the doubling theorem to non-Hermitian lattice Hamiltonians. We focus on two-dimensional non-Hermitian systems without any symmetry constraints, which can host two different types of topological point nodes, namely, (i) Fermi points and (ii) exceptional points. We show that these two types of protected point nodes obey doubling theorems, which require that the point nodes come in pairs. To prove the doubling theorem for exceptional points, we introduce a generalized winding number invariant, which we call the "discriminant number." Importantly, this invariant is applicable to any two-dimensional non-Hermitian Hamiltonian with exceptional points of arbitrary order and, moreover, can also be used to characterize nondefective degeneracy points. Furthermore, we show that a surface of a three-dimensional system can violate the non-Hermitian doubling theorems, which implies unusual bulk physics.Exceptional points (EPs) of a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian with parity-time-reversal (PT) symmetry have the potential to drastically enhance the capabilities of metrology and sensing through their power-law growing sensitivity to external perturbation. The competency-based curriculum aims to train residents in relation to certain results, in that residents are considered capable when they are able to act in an appropriate and effective manner within certain standards of performance. Canada and the United States (US) also use competency-based curriculum to train their professionals. In Canada, the format is the basis for using an evaluation method known as Entrustable Professional Activities (EPA), in which the mentor assesses residents' capacity to perform certain tasks, classified in 5 levels. The US, in turn, uses Milestones as evaluation, in which competencies and sub-competencies are assessed according to residents' progress during training. The present article aims to describe and compare the different competency-based curriculum and the evaluation methods used in the three countries, and proposes a reflection on future paths for medical education in Anesthesiology in Brazil.
    One of the potential negative effects of a lockdown are changes in dietary and lifestyle patterns, which can lead to weight gain. Our objective was to assess the changes on dietary habits and eating patterns in a lockdown situation and their impact on weight. We aimed to determine whether the treatment with GLP1 analogues (aGLP1) could impact on these parameters.

    100 overweight/obese patients were consecutively recruited for a review at the end of the lockdown. A structured interview was designed to see changes in dietary habits, routines and exercise.

    52% patients gained weight during lockdown. The percentage of subjects with an active history of depression or anxiety was higher among the group of patients who gained weight. The percentage of patients who worsened their hyperphagia was higher in those who gained weight (71.2% vs. 10.6%; P<0.0001); similar results were observed with binge eating (92% vs. 10.6%; p<0.0001) and cravings, both sweet and salty (69.2% vs. 21.3% and 69.2% vs. 14.9%; p<0.0001 and p<0.0001 respectively). Of the 48 patients who did not gain weight, 30 were under aGLP1 treatment (61.7%). The worsening of abnormal eating patterns was lower among patients treated with aGLP-1.

    Post-operative pain is a common clinical problem after surgery, yet its predictors are inconsistent and unclear. This study examined whether pre-surgical vagal cardiac efferent nerve activity, indirectly indexed by heart rate variability (HRV), predicts patients' pain after epileptic surgery.

    Using a prospective design, HRV was measured at rest during 5min in n=30 patients, prior to undergoing epileptic surgery. Post-operative pain was assessed every 8h during the first 2days after surgery, and our analyses focused on the worse pain level. We used multiple regression analyses and statistically considered several confounders (age, surgical duration, and analgesics during various surgical phases).

In Canada, the format is the basis for using an evaluation method known as Entrustable Professional Activities (EPA), in which the mentor assesses residents' capacity to perform certain tasks, classified in 5 levels. The US, in turn, uses Milestones as evaluation, in which competencies and sub-competencies are assessed according to residents' progress during training. The present article aims to describe and compare the different competency-based curriculum and the evaluation methods used in the three countries, and proposes a reflection on future paths for medical education in Anesthesiology in Brazil. One of the potential negative effects of a lockdown are changes in dietary and lifestyle patterns, which can lead to weight gain. Our objective was to assess the changes on dietary habits and eating patterns in a lockdown situation and their impact on weight. We aimed to determine whether the treatment with GLP1 analogues (aGLP1) could impact on these parameters. 100 overweight/obese patients were consecutively recruited for a review at the end of the lockdown. A structured interview was designed to see changes in dietary habits, routines and exercise. 52% patients gained weight during lockdown. The percentage of subjects with an active history of depression or anxiety was higher among the group of patients who gained weight. The percentage of patients who worsened their hyperphagia was higher in those who gained weight (71.2% vs. 10.6%; P<0.0001); similar results were observed with binge eating (92% vs. 10.6%; p<0.0001) and cravings, both sweet and salty (69.2% vs. 21.3% and 69.2% vs. 14.9%; p<0.0001 and p<0.0001 respectively). Of the 48 patients who did not gain weight, 30 were under aGLP1 treatment (61.7%). The worsening of abnormal eating patterns was lower among patients treated with aGLP-1. However, the prognostic significance of mGPS has not been studied inacute pulmonary embolism (APE). This study aimed to investigate the predictive value of mGPS on in-hospital mortality in patients with hemodynamically stableAPE. We retrospectively included 258 hemodynamically stableAPE patients. Clinical, echocardiographic, and laboratory data recorded on admission. The mGPS scored as 0, 1, or 2 based on the C-reactive protein (CRP) and albumin levels. A total of 258hemodynamically stableAPE patients were included, and 28 (10.9%) died during the hospital stay. Compared with survivors, non-survivors were older, had higher N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide, CRP, creatinine, high-sensitive cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT), and mGPS levels, and had higher pulmonary embolism severity index (PESI) at study entry. Post-operative pain is a common clinical problem after surgery, yet its predictors are inconsistent and unclear. This study examined whether pre-surgical vagal cardiac efferent nerve activity, indirectly indexed by heart rate variability (HRV), predicts patients' pain after epileptic surgery. Using a prospective design, HRV was measured at rest during 5min in n=30 patients, prior to undergoing epileptic surgery. Post-operative pain was assessed every 8h during the first 2days after surgery, and our analyses focused on the worse pain level. We used multiple regression analyses and statistically considered several confounders (age, surgical duration, and analgesics during various surgical phases). Multiple HRV indexes strongly and inversely predicted post-operative pain, with high-frequency HRV (HF-HRV) being the strongest predictor (r=-0.81, p<0.001). In a hierarchical multiple regression, HF-HRV accounted for an additional and significant 18% of the variance in post-operative pain, after statistically considering effects of age, surgical duration and effects of two anaesthetics.

This study reviews the research progress of interaction between microplastics and microorganisms based on a bibliometric and visualized analysis. Publication numbers, subjects, countries, institutions, highly cited papers, and keywords were investigated by statistical analysis. VOSviewer software was applied to visualize the co-occurrence and aggregation of national collaboration, subjects, and keywords. Results revealed trends of rapidly increasing publication output that involved multiple disciplines. Contributing countries and their institutions were also identified in this study. Keywords, co-occurrence network visualization, highly cited papers analysis, and knowledge-based mining were all used to give insight into microorganisms or microbiota related to microplastics pollution, and the potential impacts that microplastics biodegradation may cause. In the future, research efforts need to focus on the following areas microbial degradation processes and mechanisms, assessment of ecological microplastics risks, and potential effects of microplastics bioaccumulation and human exposure. In the psychiatric context, the psychological and psychosocial consequences of contact restrictions and lockdowns as well as the effects of daily reports in the media on people with mental disorders must also be taken into consideration. In this article the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic for people with mental illnesses, especially those with schizophrenia, dementia, and addictive diseases are discussed.Apart from disorders and diseases of the peripheral nerves, symptoms and disorders of the musculature and the neuromuscular transmission have also been described in association with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). In the second part of our review we provide an overview about frequently reported symptoms, such as myalgia as well as defined disorders, such as rhabdomyolysis, myositis, myasthenia and intensive care unit (ICU)-acquired weakness, which have been described during severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infections or COVID-19.Furthermore, the criteria for a causality, such as association strength, plausibility, time course, and experimental evidence for a causal association that should be applied for the COVID-19-asssociated neuromuscular conditions described in the two parts of the review are discussed. At present, in addition to anosmia, which is also known in the lay press, myalgia in particular as a nonspecific symptom are frequent sequelae of a symptomatic SARS-CoV‑2 infection.

  • The use of long test durations and sublethal endpoints (consumption, lipid content, growth, larval instars) is, moreover, advisable when testing GMO effects.Body fatness increases the risk of colorectal cancer (CRC). Insulin resistance and altered adipokines are potential mechanisms, but previous biomarker studies have been inconsistent. Intertumoral heterogeneity might provide an explanation. We investigated insulin, C-peptide, adiponectin, and leptin in relation to CRC molecular subtypes using a nested case-control design (1010 cases, 1010 matched controls, median 12.3 years from baseline to CRC diagnosis) from the population-based Northern Sweden Health and Disease Study. Repeated samples were available from 518 participants. Risks of CRC and subtypes, defined by tumor BRAF and KRAS mutations and microsatellite instability (MSI) status, were estimated using conditional logistic regression and linear mixed models. Higher C-peptide and lower adiponectin were associated with increased CRC risk (odds ratios per standard deviation increase (95% CI) 1.11 (1.01, 1.23) and 0.91 (0.83, 1.00), respectively), though weakened when adjusted for body mass index. Insulin and leptin were not associated with CRC risk. Within-individual time trajectories were similar in cases and controls, and no subtype-specific relationships were identified (all Pheterogeneity > 0.1). Adiponectin was weakly inversely associated with the risk of KRAS-mutated (P = 0.08) but not BRAF-mutated or KRAS/BRAF-wildtype CRC, consistent with the one previous study. These findings contribute to an increased understanding of the complex role of body size in CRC.Sensory Processing Sensitivity (SPS) is a personality trait in humans characterised by a tendency to process information deeply, to be easily overstimulated, and to have strong emotional responses and an enhanced sensitivity to subtle stimuli. A trait similar to SPS has recently been identified in dogs ("canine Sensory Processing Sensitivity", cSPS). In children, this trait interacts with parenting factors to influence emotional and mental development, which in turn are linked to behaviour problems. Paralleling these findings in humans, we demonstrate that cSPS interacts with owner personality and use of aversive communication to influence the likelihood of behaviour problems in dogs. More behaviour problems were reported for more highly sensitive dogs per se, when there was a relative mismatch between owner and dog personality, and when use of "negative punishment" was reported. These findings indicate that a dog's personality might moderate how an individual is affected by environmental factors, particularly owner personality and communication style, emphasising the importance of considering individuality in prevention, development and treatment of behaviour problems in dogs.Our objective was to identify metabolites associated with fetal growth restriction (FGR) by examining early and late pregnancy differences in non-targeted urinary metabolites among FGR cases and non-FGR controls. FGR cases (N = 30), defined as birthweight below the 10th percentile, were matched with controls (N = 30) based on maternal age, race, pre-pregnancy body mass index, and gestational age at delivery. Gas chromatography/electron-ionization mass spectrometry was performed on urine samples collected at 10 and 26 weeks of gestation. Differences in urinary metabolite levels in cases and controls at each time point and between the two time points were calculated and then changes compared across pregnancy. 137 unique urinary metabolites were annotated, and several identified that were higher in cases compared to controls. For example, urinary concentrations of benzoic acid were higher in cases compared to controls at both study visits (3.01-fold higher in cases at visit 1, p  less then  0.01; 3.10-fold higher in cases at visit 3, p = 0.05). However, these findings from our exploratory analysis were not robust to false-discovery-rate adjustment. Although transcription levels of SaERFs in leaves of the five accessions did not correlate with the accessions' phytohormone levels, these transcription levels accorded with the possibility that ethylene and jasmonate signaling play crucial roles in wound-induced transcription of SaERF1 in S1 leaves, and SaERF2 in S2 leaves, respectively. SaERF1 was found to be a positive regulator of the GCC box and DRE element in the upstream regions of promoters of defense genes, whereas SaERF2 served as a negative regulator of genes controlled through the GCC box.

In order to characterize molecules involved in such natural variation, we focused on ethylene response factors (ERFs) that exhibited distinct transcription patterns in the leaves of the five accessions (e.g., S1 and S2) after wounding the transcript of SaERF1 and SaERF2 was induced in wounded S1 and S2 leaves, respectively. Although transcription levels of SaERFs in leaves of the five accessions did not correlate with the accessions' phytohormone levels, these transcription levels accorded with the possibility that ethylene and jasmonate signaling play crucial roles in wound-induced transcription of SaERF1 in S1 leaves, and SaERF2 in S2 leaves, respectively. SaERF1 was found to be a positive regulator of the GCC box and DRE element in the upstream regions of promoters of defense genes, whereas SaERF2 served as a negative regulator of genes controlled through the GCC box.

  • To evaluate the clinical significance of fusion indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence imaging in precise right hemihepatectomy for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). 47 patients with HCC who underwent right hemihepatectomy were retrospectively analyzed. 18 of them guided by fusion ICG fluorescence imaging (FIGFI) while 29 patients underwent conventional right hepatectomy without guidance. Compared to the patients with conventional treatment, the intraoperative blood loss of the patients with guided surgery was significantly less, and no transfusion and hepatic occlusion were performed during the operation. Liver function recovery faster in guided group. The incidence of postoperative complications is also lower, and the recurrence rate in one year is significantly reduced. ICG fluorescence range of 18 patients in liver surface was consistent with the ischemic line, and their postoperative liver cross-sections were clearly demarcation. We evaluated the relationship between hTERT expression and human kruppel-related 3 (HKR3) and cell cycle-related factors in HCC cell lines. Following transfection for hTERT knockdown and HKR3 overexpression, proteomic and transcriptomic analyses related to hTERT were performed using liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS) and RNA sequencing (RNAseq) in HCC cell lines. The expression levels of hTERT, HKR3, and cell cycle-related factors were measured using western blotting, and tumor growth were evaluated via cell proliferation and cell cycle assays. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses showed that HKR3, hTERT and cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 2A (CDKN2A) were correlated. Up-regulation of HKR3 expression decreased hTERT and cyclin activation and suppressed the G1/S phase of the cell cycle through CDKN2A activation. Our results suggest that HKR3 induced regulation of cell cycle through hTERT inhibition and CDKN2A activation. The aim of our study was to identify biomarkers and distinct subtypes of PB-DLBCLs and then evaluate the prognosis of this rare malignant lymphoma. We carried out hierarchical clustering analysis to evaluate protein expressions of potential biomarkers detected by immunohistochemistry staining of samples from 68 PB-DLBCL patients. The gene expression data from TCGA database was obtained to validate the identified clusters. We identified three robust clusters based on the B-cell receptor (BCR) signaling pathway, including two recognized NF-κB-dependent and PI3K-dependent clusters, and a distinct subset of PB-DLBCL with NF-κB-independent anti-apoptotic overexpression plus PI3K signaling, which exhibited an evolving definition and distinctive characters of a cluster group. Furthermore, survival analysis results showed an inferior outcome in NF-κB-dependent cluster patients and favorable survival in the PI3K-dependent cluster patients, suggesting an important predictive value of the three clusters.   • Colon cancer ranks as the third most common malignancy in the world. Combination chemotherapy, resorting to electrospun fibrous technology, has been considered as a promising strategy to exert synergistic effects in colon cancer treatment. Herein, we manufactured various pluronic F127 (PF127)-modified electrospun fibrous meshes with different weight ratios of camptothecin (CPT) and curcumin (CUR). The fluorescence characterization of the obtained PF127-CPT-meshes, PF127-CUR-meshes, and PF127-CPT/CUR-meshes (21) showed that CPT and CUR were evenly distributed within individual fibers of these meshes. Drug release experiments revealed that both types of drugs could be released from fibrous meshes simultaneously and sustainably. Importantly, these meshes exhibited strong in vitro anti-colon cancer activities, compared with the control meshes without drugs. Data were completed online using a researcher-made questionnaire, the validity and reliability of which were confirmed, for 1,200 Iranians from 8 April 2020 to 9 May 2020. Results The mean age of study participants was 37.77 ± 11.20 years. The mean score of preventive behaviors was 62.67 ± 8.53. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between the variables of gender, education, economic status, and preventive behaviors of COVID-19. The highest frequency is related to not using hookah and cigarettes and then avoiding losing and rubbing (78%) and the lowest percentage is related to exercising behavior (16%). Conclusion Due to the low level of prevention behaviors during the outbreak of the disease, it is important to design educational and supportive interventions to improve and perform coronavirus prevention behaviors with more focus on men, illiterate people, and poor economic status.Uncontrolled diabetes results in several metabolic alterations including hyperglycemia.     Colon cancer ranks as the third most common malignancy in the world. Combination chemotherapy, resorting to electrospun fibrous technology, has been considered as a promising strategy to exert synergistic effects in colon cancer treatment. Herein, we manufactured various pluronic F127 (PF127)-modified electrospun fibrous meshes with different weight ratios of camptothecin (CPT) and curcumin (CUR). The fluorescence characterization of the obtained PF127-CPT-meshes, PF127-CUR-meshes, and PF127-CPT/CUR-meshes (21) showed that CPT and CUR were evenly distributed within individual fibers of these meshes. Drug release experiments revealed that both types of drugs could be released from fibrous meshes simultaneously and sustainably. Importantly, these meshes exhibited strong in vitro anti-colon cancer activities, compared with the control meshes without drugs.   • Predisposing factors for the development of a pre-capillary component in pulmonary hypertension associated with left heart disease remain elusive. We report the case of a patient with persistent combined post-capillary and pre-capillary pulmonary hypertension after cardiac transplantation, in whom a rare BMPR2 variant was found.Pulmonary arterial hypertension is a chronic, progressive, and life-threatening disease in children with diverse causes of pulmonary arterial hypertension. The most severe cases of pulmonary arterial hypertension require aggressive treatments with systemic administration of continuous prostacyclin therapy, including treprostinil and epoprostenol. The successful use of continuous subcutaneous treprostinil therapy eliminates the need for an indwelling central venous catheter and its associated risks. However, pain at the subcutaneous infusion site, an expected side effect of this therapy, is often a deterrent to its widespread use. Effective subcutaneous treprostinil site maintenance and pain management is essential to achieve success with this therapy, but strategies surrounding site maintenance and pain control vary significantly between pediatric pulmonary hypertension treatment centers. In an attempt to standardize practice, a survey on the use of subcutaneous treprostinil and site maintenance and pain management strategies, as well as its perceived effectiveness, was disseminated to 13 pediatric pulmonary hypertension centers of the Pediatric Pulmonary Hypertension Network. Responses to the survey were collected and analyzed and were developed into a set of formalized strategies to facilitate knowledge sharing and standardization of practice.Rupture of the axillary artery in the absence of a fracture of dislocation is a rare traumatic event. An associated injury to the brachial plexus may accompany an axillary artery injury but has rarely been reported in the literature. We present the case of an elderly female, who fell onto an outstretched arm and sustained an axillary artery rupture, combined with a brachial plexus injury. The patient in this case did well post-operatively. The challenge in these cases is early recognition and diagnosis of a vascular injury. A significant mechanism of injury needs to alert the clinician to the possibility of such injuries and if suspected, early investigation and surgical exploration should be initiated to prevent limb ischemia. Subsequently, if the neurological symptoms do not improve, consideration must be given to the possibility of a nerve injury and early recognition and management to prevent long-term functional deficits.Phyllodes tumour (PT) is a rare type of fibroepithelial breast tumour that can present in a wide spectrum of biological behaviours, accounting for less then 1% of breast malignancies. Herein, we present a case of a rare gigantic ulcerating PT in a middle-aged woman from regional Western Australia, who presented with a rapidly growing right breast mass. Core biopsy showed spindle cell lesion with differentials being PT of at least borderline variety or metaplastic carcinoma. The ulcerations over the fungating tumour showed heavy growth of Staphylococcus aureus. The treating team subsequently proceeded to right total mastectomy with level 1 and 2 axillary clearance. This report emphasizes the rare presentation of PT, dilemma in investigations and the difficulties in managing non-compliant patient where treatment protocol needs to be modified.Retention of an intercostal drain segment is an uncommon and infrequently reported complication of underwater seal drain use. We report the case of a 66-year-old New Zealand European male who underwent bilateral lung transplantation for severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchiectasis. The patient required a return to the operating room for exploratory surgery after an intercostal drain severed during its attempted removal and became retained within the chest cavity. Moreover, we have paid special attention to the new methods of post-decellularization that can significantly ameliorate the efficiency of decellularized cartilage extracellular matrix (ECM) for the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA). We propose a series of post-decellularization procedures to overcome the current shortcomings such as low mechanical strength and poor bioactivity to improve decellularized ECM scaffold towards **** more efficient and higher integration.
