A Research-First Approach to Recognizing South India's Most Influential Leaders Under 40
India / Global — 2025: Awards often celebrate business success, but identifying the individuals truly driving that success requires a disciplined and unbiased evaluation process. To bring greater transparency and credibility to leadership recognition, Coherent Market Insights (CMI) partnered with ET Edge 40 Under 40 – South Edition 2025 as the Research Partner, developing a comprehensive methodology to identify the region's most accomplished business leaders below the age of 40.
At the event, Mohit Shrivastava, AVP – Research & Consulting at Coherent Market Insights, outlined the structured research framework used to evaluate nominees. The methodology combined eligibility screening, extensive market research, sector benchmarking, quantitative scoring, and independent jury assessment to ensure every recognition reflected measurable leadership and business excellence.
Recognizing Leaders Across South India's Expanding Economy
South India has become a major contributor to India's economic growth, supported by thriving technology companies, advanced manufacturing, healthcare innovation, financial services, consumer businesses, and fast-growing startups. Reflecting this dynamic ecosystem, the initiative evaluated leaders from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Puducherry, and Lakshadweep.
The process began with clearly defined eligibility standards. Nominees had to be under the age of 40 as of October 31, 2025, hold a strategic leadership position such as Founder, Co-founder, CEO, Managing Director, or an equivalent executive role, and demonstrate sustained contributions to business growth within South India.
Researchers compiled nominations from ET Edge applications, startup communities, industry associations, business intelligence platforms, company disclosures, editorial research, and verified public information to create a broad and representative candidate database.
A Balanced Framework Across Sectors and Business Sizes
Recognizing that leadership cannot be measured uniformly across every industry, CMI categorized candidates into sectors including technology, manufacturing, healthcare, BFSI, infrastructure, consumer products, logistics, renewable energy, and emerging industries.
Organizations were further classified according to their business scale, enabling startups, SMEs, and established enterprises to be assessed within comparable peer groups. The methodology also emphasized regional diversity by including leaders from metropolitan centers as well as emerging Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, while promoting inclusive representation across genders.
Each nomination underwent detailed verification to confirm leadership tenure, organizational scale, and business accomplishments using statutory filings, corporate records, and other credible public sources.
Evaluating Leadership Through Measurable Criteria
The assessment framework placed greater emphasis on individual leadership achievements than organizational size. Leadership capabilities—including strategic vision, innovation, governance, business transformation, measurable impact, and future potential—formed the majority of the overall evaluation.
Organizational performance was assessed through business growth, revenue progression, strategic initiatives, partnerships, market expansion, operational excellence, and industry recognition. This combination allowed the research team to evaluate leaders objectively while accounting for differences in company maturity and sector dynamics.
Independent Expertise Validated the Final Selection
Once the analytical assessment was completed, shortlisted candidates were presented before an independent jury consisting of senior editorial representatives from The Economic Times, business leaders, investors, and academic experts. The panel reviewed the research findings before confirming the final list, supported by additional verification to ensure consistency, fairness, and transparency throughout the process.
Advancing Merit-Based Leadership Recognition
According to Mohit Shrivastava, the initiative demonstrates how structured market research can elevate leadership recognition by replacing subjective judgments with objective evaluation. Through rigorous screening, balanced benchmarking, data-driven scoring, and independent validation, the framework identified a diverse group of entrepreneurs and executives shaping South India's future economy.
The collaboration further reflects Coherent Market Insights' commitment to building credible research-backed recognition platforms that encourage innovation, strengthen governance, and celebrate leadership based on measurable achievement.
