Why Printed Bags Do Not Match Your Screen Colors

When you design a beautiful bag on your computer or phone, you expect it to look exactly the same when it arrives at your door. You choose a bright, glowing blue or a neon green. But when the real printed bag arrives, that beautiful glowing blue looks like a sad, dark navy. The neon green looks more like dry grass.

Most people get very angry. They think the factory made a big mistake or used cheap ink. But the truth is much simpler: your screen and the printing machine do not speak the same language.

Screens and eyes use light. If you look really close at your phone, it is made of tiny red, green, and blue lights (this is called RGB). When these lights shine together, they make very bright, glowing colors. But a printing machine does not use light. It uses physical ink. It mixes four colors: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black (this is called CMYK). Because ink cannot glow like a light bulb, it can never match the super bright colors you see on a glass screen.

If you are making custom packaging for your small shop, this color difference can cost you a lot of money. Imagine ordering one thousand bags, and your logo color looks completely wrong! To help you understand this problem, you can read this simple guide on RGB vs. CMYK to see how materials and finishes change the way color looks in real life.

If you want to keep your colors beautiful and safe, here are three easy things you should do:

First, never trust your phone screen. If you are designing a logo or a bag, change your design software settings from RGB to CMYK before you start. This shows you a closer picture of what real ink can actually do.

Second, ask the factory for a physical sample bag. A digital picture on WeChat or email is still just light on a screen. You need to hold the real plastic or paper bag under the sun to see the true ink color.

Third, use a color code book, like Pantone. These are books with real printed color blocks. You just tell the factory the number of the color you want, and they will mix the ink to match that exact paper card. This is the safest way to get what you want.
