Revolutionizing Computing: Apple’s New 13” MacBook Pro with 10th Gen Ice Lake and Scissor Keyboard
Apple’s New 13" MacBook Pro: A Fresh Take for Pakistan
Today marks the release of Apple’s revamped 13” MacBook Pro line-up. The series has been updated with the new scissor-switch style Magic Keyboard and offers Intel’s new 10th generation Ice Lake CPUs in the higher-end models. The MacBook price in Pakistan could be a deciding factor for many potential buyers.
The Magic Keyboard Makes a Comeback
Last winter, Apple introduced the new Magic Keyboard in its 16” MacBook Pro, opting to replace the controversial butterfly switch keyboard with a scissor switch design. Today, the 13” line-up embraces the same changes across its smaller form factor models, including a redesigned Touch Bar that now includes a physical escape key.
Design Updates: Subtle but Significant
The new design doesn’t deviate significantly from its summer-2019 refresh. However, this year’s model is slightly thicker at 1.56cm, up from 1.49cm – a difference that’s likely unnoticeable in everyday use. It’s also 30g heavier, weighing in at up to 1.4kg (3.1lbs). The MacBook Pro price in Pakistan and the Mac Pro price in Pakistan may cause some to reconsider.
A Leap Forward with the 10th Generation Intel Ice Lake CPU
The most significant internal change is the option for a new 10th generation Intel Ice Lake-based CPU, running at 2.0GHz base clocks and Turbo Boosting to up to 3.8GHz. As is typical with Apple products, this is likely a custom SKU exclusive to Apple’s line-up, as there’s no matching public part with these frequencies.
Intel’s New Additions and Apple’s Continued Support for Coffee Lake
As of May 10th, Intel has added the new i5-1038NG7 and i7-1068NG7 to their Ark database. These are 28W processors. While the Ice Lake-based parts are new, Apple will continue to sell 8th generation Coffee Lake-based parts at the lower end of the price spectrum. The MacBook Pro laptop price in Pakistan and the overall Apple laptop price in Pakistan could be significant factors for many consumers.
Display and Connectivity: Consistent Quality with Room for Improvement
The display panel remains unchanged, featuring a 13” 2560 x 1600 IPS LCD panel with a wide Display P3 colour gamut, 500 nits peak brightness, and True Tone ambient colour adjustment. In terms of connectivity, the new 2020 13” MacBook Pros come in two variants: the lower-end models feature two Thunderbolt 3 ports, while the Ice Lake-based parts get four.
Battery Life and Storage Options: More of the Same, with a Few Upgrades
Battery-wise, there are no changes in capacity as we’re still looking at a 58Wh unit, and Apple claims an identical “10 hours” of usage for all new models. The higher-end Ice Lake parts now come with a base 16GB of DRAM config at a PKR price point with a 512GB SSD, or a PKR option with a 1TB SSD. Storage configurations for the ICL models are doubled across the board, with the possibility to choose up to a 4TB configuration for an extra Amount.
