1. Fluid grid

In a fluid grid, every element of a grid is delivered as a relative part of its container, so it is resized as per the size of the container in different resolutions. In other words, the exact number of columns in a grid can differ depending on the size of a user’s viewport or device.

 

2. Relative units

Web page portions like content blocks or buttons vary in size in relative units like percentages. These relative units make it appropriate to size elements as per the size of a viewport.

 

3. Media queries

The media queries or CSS media queries can customize the web page’s style based on the media of the viewport, such as its display resolution and the actual size of a browser window.

 

4. Flexible visuals

Flexible visuals mean the layout should be made in relative units called “effective pixels” to express the layout dimensions and spacing which is quite called “perceived size”. The elements should be designed with a base unit to ensure the design always scales to a wholly when the fluid grid is applied.

 

Responsive vs Adaptive web design

In designing a responsive website the designer builds only one web layout and then this layout is made adjustable to different screen sizes and fixes their dimensions. It means every element, design, etc. will be the same it will adapt to the screen size of devices.

Whereas adaptive website design, a designer can build separate layouts for each screen’s real view. This means that overall how each page of the website loads on different screen sizes and how a user utilizes it.
