Hysteroscopy and hysteroscopic myomectomy in general have low complication rates. Two patients underwent hysteroscopic myomectomy for prolapsing submucous myomas after UAE. The onset of prolapsing myoma occurred at varying times between completion of UAE and myomectomy, resulting in bacteremia for both patients. In Case 1, the patient recovered with intravenous antibiotic treatment. However, the patient in Case 2 had status improvement after undergoing an abdominal myomectomy, explorative laparotomy for removal of a necrotic myoma. Our two patient cases serve as a caution to clinicians regarding the rare incidence of septicemia occurring in patients undergoing hysteroscopic myomectomy with prior UAE treatment for prolapsing myomas.
An ever-increasing number of clinics are offering purportedly 'regenerative' stem-cell treatments, although cell-based therapies may not primarily act as stem cells and have shown the ability to regenerate end-target tissues in some clinical studies only. We aim to systematically review the evidence for their use in soft-tissue sports injuries of the knee.
A search for articles pertaining to the use of preparations of, or containing, mesenchymal stem cells (****) in human subjects in sports knee injuries yielded 14 relevant results for inclusion after screening 7 used cultured ****, 5 bone marrow concentrate (BMC), and the remaining 2 evaluated stromal vascular fraction (SVF) and tenocyte-like-cells. One hundred and one samples of bovine minced meat (Group 1) and ready to cook meat products (Group 2) were collected from supermarkets in Turin, Italy. A nested PCR test was chosen as the gold standard. An index of diagnostic suspicion (IDS) for PVI, based on parameters reported upon submittal of the samples, was introduced to classify the initial diagnoses issued by veterinarians. The agreement between the IDS of PVI and PCR results was calculated. The effect of species, age and clinical versus necroscopic presentation was evaluated by logistic regression. In 63.6% of the cases, the IDS was confirmed by the PCR, whereas in 36.4% there was a missed diagnosis or a diagnosis wrongly attributed to PVI. More accurate results were obtained for dogs, animals aged less then 1 year, and necropsies. To investigate the relationship of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) from 900 MHz cellphone frequency with testicular oxidative damage and its influence on the Prdx2 protein expression in the rat testis, and to explore the mechanism of Guilingji Capsules (GC) alleviating oxidative damage to the testis tissue.
Fifty healthy SD male rats were randomly divided into five groups of equal number, sham-EMR, 4-h EMR, 8-h EMR, 4-h EMR+GC and 8-h EMR+GC and exposed to 900 MHz EMR (370 μW/cm2) for 0, 4 or 8 hours daily for 15 successive days. The rats of the latter two groups were treated intragastrically with GC suspension and those of the first three groups with pure water after exposure to EMR each day. After 15 days of exposure and treatment, all the rats were sacrificed and their testis tissue collected for observation of the histomorphological and ultrastructural changes by HE staining and transmission electron microscopy, measurement of the levels of serum glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (***) and malondialdehyde (MDA) with thiobarbiuric acid and determination of the Prdx2 protein expression by immunohistochemistry and Western blot.

Elevated triglyceride (TG) levels are a biomarker for cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. The correlation between serum uric acid (SUA) and TG concentrations in adults or obese children is well established. However, studies on SUA and TG in children with short stature are limited.
To determine the relationship between SUA and TG levels in short children and adolescents.
This was a cross-sectional evaluation of a cohort of 1095 patients with short stature (720 males and 375 females). The related clinical characteristics, including anthropometric and biochemical parameters, were determined.
Smooth curve fitting, adjusted for potential confounders was performed, which indicated the existence of a non-linear relationship between these measures. Piecewise multivariate linear analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between SUA and TG at SUA concentrations over 7 mg/dL (β = 0.13, 95% CI 0.05-0.22, P = 0.002) but no significant correlation at lower SUA levels (β = 0.01, 95% CI 0.01-0.04, P = 0.79gh SUA levels, especially in children with a high BMI standard deviation score.

Consumption of nuts improves cardio-metabolic risk factors in clinical trials and relates to lower risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in prospective observational studies. However, there has not been an adequately powered randomized controlled trial to test if nuts supplementation actually reduces incident CVD. In order to establish the feasibility of such a trial, the current study aimed to assess the acceptability and adherence to long-term nut supplementation amongst individuals at high CVD risk in China.
This protocol described a 6-month trial performed in Ningxia Province in China among participants with a history of CVD or older age (female ≥65 years, male ≥60 years) with multiple CVD risk factors. Participants were randomized to control (received non-edible gift), low dose walnut (30 g/d), or high dose walnut (60 g/d) groups in a 111 ratio. Walnuts were provided at no cost to participants and could be consumed according to personal preferences. Follow-up visits were scheduled at 2 weeks, 3 monthsust 14 2019.

Malaria volunteers have contributed significantly to malaria control achieving a reduction of annual parasite incidence to pre-elimination levels in several townships across Myanmar. However, the volunteers' role is changing as Myanmar transitions from a malaria control to elimination programme and towards the goal of universal health coverage. The aim of the study is to explore the perspectives of community leaders, members and malaria volunteers in South-East Myanmar on community-delivered models to inform an optimal design that targets malaria elimination in the context of primary health care in Myanmar.
Qualitative methods including focus group discussions (FGDs) with community members and current or ex-malaria volunteers, and participatory workshops with community leaders were conducted. All data collection tools were pilot tested with similar participants. The FGDs were stratified into male and female participants in consideration of diverse gender roles among the ethnic groups of Myanmar. Microscopy and rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) are the main techniques used to diagnose malaria. While microscopy is considered the gold standard, RDTs have established popularity as they allow for rapid diagnosis with minimal technical skills. This study aimed to compare the diagnostic performance of two Plasmodium falciparum histidine-rich protein 2 (PfHRP2)-based RDTs (Paracheck Pf® Test (Paracheck) and Malaria Pf™ ICT (ICT)) to polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in a community survey.
A cross-sectional study was conducted between October 2012 and December 2014 in Mutasa District, Manicaland Province, eastern Zimbabwe. A new domestic cat hepadnavirus (DCH, family Hepadnaviridae) was first reported from whole blood samples of domestic cats in Australia in 2018, and from cat serum samples in Italy in 2019. The pathogenesis of DCH is unknown, but it was reported in cats with viraemia (6.5-10.8%), chronic hepatitis (43%) and hepatocellular carcinoma (28%). Recent reports suggest that DCH resembles the human hepatitis B virus (HBV) and its related hepatopathies. This study aims to detect and characterize DCH among domestic cats in Malaysia. A cross-sectional study was performed on 253 cats, of which 87 had paired blood and liver samples, entailing whole-genome sequencing and phylogenetic analysis of DCH from a liver tissue sample.
Among the 253 cats included in this study, 12.3% of the whole blood samples tested positive for DCH. The detection rate was significantly higher in pet cats (16.6%, n = 24/145) compared to shelter cats (6.5%, n = 7/108). Liver tissues showed higher a DCH detection rate (14.9%, n = 13/87) compared to blood; 5 out of these 13 cats tested positive for DCH in their paired liver and blood samples.

This was a cross-sectional evaluation of a cohort of 1095 patients with short stature (720 males and 375 females). The related clinical characteristics, including anthropometric and biochemical parameters, were determined. Smooth curve fitting, adjusted for potential confounders was performed, which indicated the existence of a non-linear relationship between these measures. GPCRs mediate the activity of many regulators of the immune system such as chemokines and leukotrienes, and thus GRK proteins may play key roles in modulating the lymphocyte response to these factors. As one of the predominant GRK family members expressed in immune cells, GRK2's canonical and noncanonical actions play an especially significant role in normal immune cell function as well as in the development and progression of disorders of the immune system. This review summarizes our current state of knowledge of the roles of GRK2 in lymphocytes. We highlight the diverse functions of GRK2 and discuss how ongoing investigation of GRK2 in lymphocytes may inform the development of new therapies for diseases associated with lymphocyte dysregulation.Preeclampsia is a hypertensive disorder that occurs during pregnancy. It is a complex disease with unknown pathogenesis and the leading cause of fetal and maternal mortality during pregnancy. Using all drugs currently under clinical trial for preeclampsia, we extracted all their possible targets from the DrugBank and ChEMBL databases and labeled them as "targets". The proteins labeled as "off-targets" were extracted in the same way but while taking all antihypertensive drugs which are inhibitors of ACE and/or angiotensin receptor antagonist as query molecules. Classification models were obtained for each of the 55 total proteins (45 targets and 10 off-targets) using the TPOT pipeline optimization tool. The average accuracy of the models in predicting the external dataset for targets and off-targets was 0.830 and 0.850, respectively. The combinations of models maximizing their virtual screening performance were explored by combining the desirability function and genetic algorithms. The virtual screening performance metrics for the best model were the Boltzmann-Enhanced Discrimination of ROC (BEDROC)α=160.9 = 0.258, the Enrichment Factor (EF)1% = 31.55 and the Area Under the Accumulation Curve (AUAC) = 0.831. The most relevant targets for preeclampsia were AR, VDR, SLC6A2, NOS3 and CHRM4, while ABCG2, ERBB2, CES1 and REN led to the most relevant off-targets. A virtual screening of the DrugBank database identified estradiol, estriol, vitamins E and D, lynestrenol, mifrepristone, simvastatin, ambroxol, and some antibiotics and antiparasitics as drugs with potential application in the treatment of preeclampsia.Catheter-based ultrasound-thrombolysis has been successfully used in a small clinical trial in order to enhance recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rtPA)-fibrinolysis, for the treatment of spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhages (ICHs). The aim of this study was to investigate the ultra-early effects of ultrasound on hematoma and the surrounding brain tissue in a porcine ICH-model. To achieve this, 21 pigs with a right frontal ICH were randomly assigned to four groups (1) drainage (n = 3), (2) drainage + rtPA (n = 6), (3) drainage + ultrasound (n = 6), and (4) drainage + ultrasound + rtPA (n = 6). The hematoma volume assessment was performed using cranial MRI before and after the treatments. Subsequently, the brain sections were analyzed using HE-staining and immunohistochemistry. The combined treatment using rtPA and ultrasound led to a significantly higher hematoma reduction (62 ± 5%) compared to the other groups (Group 1 2 ± 1%; Group 2 30 ± 12%; Group 3 18 ± 8% (p less then 0.0001)). In all groups, the MRI revealed an increase in diffusion restriction but neither hyper- or hypoperfusion, nor perihematomal edema. HE stains showed perihematomal microhemorrhages were equally distributed in each group, while edema was more pronounced within the control group. Immunohistochemistry did not reveal any ultra-early side effects. The combined therapy of drainage, rtPA and ultrasound is a safe and effective technique for hematoma-reduction and protection of the perihematomal tissue in regard to ultra-early effects.Primary cell cultures from wild organisms have been gaining relevance in ecotoxicology as they are considered more sensitive than immortalized cell lines and retain the biochemical pathways found in vivo. In this study, the efficacy of two methods for primary hepatocyte cell isolation was compared using liver from two marine fish (Sparus aurata and Psetta maxima) (i) two-step collagenase perfusion and (ii) pancreatin digestion with modifications. Cell cultures were incubated in L-15 medium at 17 ± 1 °C and monitored for up to six days for cell viability and function using the trypan blue exclusion test, MTT test, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity, and ethoxyresorufin O-deethylase (EROD) activity after Benzo[a]Pyrene exposure. The results showed significant differences between the number of viable cells (p less then 0.05), the highest number being obtained for the pancreatin digestion method (average = 4.5 ± 1.9 × 107 cells). Moreover, the hepatocytes showed solid adherence to the culture plate and the rounded shape, changing into a triangular/polygonal shape. The cell viability and function obtained by pancreatin digestion were maintained for five days, and the EROD induction after exposure to the B[a]P showed that cells were metabolically active. This study shows that the optimized pancreatin digestion method is a valid, cost-effective, and simple alternative to the standard perfusion method for the isolation of primary hepatocytes from fish and is suitable for ecotoxicological studies involving marine pollutants, such as PAHs.Nutrition plays a fundamental role in the prevention and treatment of dyslipidemias and its oxidative-related complications. Thrombosis of umbilical vessels is a rare occurrence that is difficult to detect during routine antenatal examinations but can lead to poor perinatal outcomes.
The aim of this study is to examine the association between meaningful clinical manifestations and features associated with thrombosis of umbilical vessels, and to evaluate optimal management options.
A retrospective study of umbilical cord thrombi cases enrolled between 2015-2019 was carried out. Data were analyzed from the medical archives where the diagnosis of all cases was established by histopathology.
Gross examination reported additional cord abnormalities (7/10), including the irregular length of the umbilical cord, narrowed cord with hyper-coiling, swollen cord with deficiency of Wharton's jelly, placenta velamentous and umbilical infarction. Pathological examination accounted for 10 cases of umbilical cord thrombosis including umbilical artery embolism (3/10), umbilical vein thrombi (5/10) and funisitis (2/10). Clinical findings depification of umbilical cord thrombi. Our results support the more effective approach of emergency cesarean section during the third trimester.
The primary objective of the study was to assess maternal and fetal outcomes of pregnancies affected with dengue fever.
This was a prospective, observational and descriptive study carried out over a period of 1year. 216 pregnant women with fever were screened. Of these, 44 women tested positive for dengue (non-structural protein antigen 1 or dengue IgM antibodies in the sera). Mean period of gestation was 31.89 ± 7.31weeks. Thrombocytopenia was seen in 23 (52.3%) women. Of 40 women, 10 (25%) developed post-partum haemorrhage. The incidence of maternal systemic complications was high eight (18.2%) women developed acute kidney injury and two (4.5%) required haemodialysis support; eight (18.2%) women developed ARDS and seven (15.9%) women required ventilatory support; four (9.1%) women developed acute liver failure. 18 (40.9%) women had evidence of shock. Seven (15.9%) women died and another seven (15.9%) were classified as WHO maternal near-miss cases. Two (4.5%) pregnancies suffered from miscarriages, four (9%) from still births and two (4.5%) from neonatal deaths. Preterm babies were delivered in 15 (34.1%) and low birth weight babies in 13 (29.5%).

Carnitine plays a key role in energy production in the myocardium and is efficiently removed by continuous kidney replacement therapy (CKRT). Effects of levocarnitine supplementation on myocardial function in children receiving CKRT have not been investigated.
This controlled pilot cohort study of 48 children investigated effects of levocarnitine supplementation on myocardial strain in children receiving CKRT for acute kidney injury (AKI). Children (n = 9) with AKI had total (TC) and free plasma carnitine (FC) measurements and echocardiogram for longitudinal and circumferential strain at baseline (prior to CKRT) and follow-up (on CKRT for > 1 week with intravenous levocarnitine supplementation, 20 mg/kg/day). Intervention group was compared with three controls (1) CKRT controls (n = 10) received CKRT > 1 week (+AKI, no levocarnitine), (2) ICU controls (n = 9) were parenteral nutrition-dependent for > 1 week (no AKI, no levocarnitine), and (3) healthy controls (n = 20).
In the Intervention group, TC and FC increased from 36.0 and 18 μmol/L to 93.5 and 74.5 μmol/L after supplementation. TC and FC of unsupplemented CKRT controls declined from 27.2 and 18.6 μmol/L to 12.4 and 6.6 μmol/L, which was lower vs. ICU controls (TC 32.0, FC 26.0 μmol/L), p < 0.05. Longitudinal and circumferential strain of the Intervention group improved from - 18.5% and - 18.3% to - 21.1% and - 27.6% after levocarnitine supplementation; strain of CKRT controls (-14.4%, -20%) remained impaired and was lower vs. Intervention and Healthy Control groups at follow-up, p < 0.05.

Thrombosis of umbilical vessels is a rare occurrence that is difficult to detect during routine antenatal examinations but can lead to poor perinatal outcomes. The aim of this study is to examine the association between meaningful clinical manifestations and features associated with thrombosis of umbilical vessels, and to evaluate optimal management options. A retrospective study of umbilical cord thrombi cases enrolled between 2015-2019 was carried out. Data were analyzed from the medical archives where the diagnosis of all cases was established by histopathology. Gross examination reported additional cord abnormalities (7/10), including the irregular length of the umbilical cord, narrowed cord with hyper-coiling, swollen cord with deficiency of Wharton's jelly, placenta velamentous and umbilical infarction. Pathological examination accounted for 10 cases of umbilical cord thrombosis including umbilical artery embolism (3/10), umbilical vein thrombi (5/10) and funisitis (2/10). Clinical findings depification of umbilical cord thrombi. Our results support the more effective approach of emergency cesarean section during the third trimester. The primary objective of the study was to assess maternal and fetal outcomes of pregnancies affected with dengue fever. This was a prospective, observational and descriptive study carried out over a period of 1year. 216 pregnant women with fever were screened. Effects of levocarnitine supplementation on myocardial function in children receiving CKRT have not been investigated. This controlled pilot cohort study of 48 children investigated effects of levocarnitine supplementation on myocardial strain in children receiving CKRT for acute kidney injury (AKI). Children (n = 9) with AKI had total (TC) and free plasma carnitine (FC) measurements and echocardiogram for longitudinal and circumferential strain at baseline (prior to CKRT) and follow-up (on CKRT for > 1 week with intravenous levocarnitine supplementation, 20 mg/kg/day). Intervention group was compared with three controls (1) CKRT controls (n = 10) received CKRT > 1 week (+AKI, no levocarnitine), (2) ICU controls (n = 9) were parenteral nutrition-dependent for > 1 week (no AKI, no levocarnitine), and (3) healthy controls (n = 20). In the Intervention group, TC and FC increased from 36.0 and 18 μmol/L to 93.5 and 74.5 μmol/L after supplementation. Ten hub genes were screened according to the Maximal Clique Centrality (MCC) score using the Cytohubba plugin of Cytoscape (including FOS, EGR1, EPHA2, DUSP1, IGFBP3, SOCS2, ID1, DUSP6, MT1G, and MT1H). To explore the possible mechanism of Huanshao Capsules (HSC) protecting the reproductive function in rats with ornidazole-induced asthenozoospermia (AZS).
Forty SD male rats were randomly divided into four groups of equal number, blank control, AZS model control, HSC and L-carnitine (LC) intervention. The AZS model was established in the latter three groups of rats by intragastrical administration of ornidazole at 400 mg/kg/d for 28 days, and meanwhile the animals in the HSC and LC groups were treated by gavage of HSC at 0.31 g/kg/d and LC at 100 mg/kg/d, respectively. Then, all the rats were killed for examination of the LC content, sperm concentration, sperm motility and expression of OCTN2 mRNA in the epididymis and observation of the histopathological changes in the testis tissue.
Compared with the AZS model controls, the rats in the HSC and LC groups showed significantly increased LC content (2 880.3 vs 6 366.5 and 6 934.7 mg/L, P < 0.01), sperm concentration ([34.58 ± 10.25] vs [46.19 ± 14.23] and [42.25 ± 6.11] ×10⁶/ml, P < 0.01), sperm motility ([42.59 ± 7.54]% vs [61.34 ± 7.98]% and [61.34 ± 7.98]%, P < 0.01) and expression of OCTN2 mRNA in the epididymis (26.07% vs 27.26% and 27.15%, P < 0.01). The animals of the HSC group exhibited a higher comparability than those of the LC group to the blank controls in the morphology, arrangement and activity of spermatogenic cells.
HSC can protect the reproductive function and improve sperm concentration and motility in the model rats with ornidazole-induced AZS, which may be associated with its abilities of up-regulating the expression of OCTN2 mRNA and increasing the LC content in the epididymis.

To evaluate the application of the Green Model to lifestyle intervention in male infertility patients.
A total of 120 male infertility patients treated from October 2018 to January 2019 were equally randomized into a control and an observation group, the former given conventional nursing and the latter Green Model intervention in addition. Comparisons were made between the two groups of patients in their satisfaction with nursing intervention, scores on lifestyle knowledge, beliefs and behaviors, and compliance with the healthy lifestyle.
The patients in the observation group showed a dramatically higher satisfaction with the nursing intervention than the controls (96.67% vs 75.00%, P < 0.01) as well as higher scores on lifestyle knowledge (8.92 ± 1.08 vs 5.89 ± 1.99, P < 0.05), beliefs (8.78 ± 0.68 vs 5.98 ± 1.50, P < 0.05) and behaviors (19.32 ± 1.12 vs 13.88 ± 2.11, P < 0.05) and their compliance with the healthy lifestyle (61.67% vs 38.33, P < 0.05).

To explore the application of psychological nursing in patients with genital herpes receiving acyclovir combined with thymosin and its effect on the incidence of adverse reactions.
A total of 160 patients with genital herpes treated with acyclovir plus thymosin in our hospital from January 2016 to December 2018 were randomly allocated to receive conventional nursing (the control group, n = 80) and psychological nursing (the trial group, n = 80). Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS) were used to evaluate the anxiety and depression of the patients, and comparisons were made between the two groups of patients in their SAS and SDS scores, the incidence of adverse reactions and their satisfaction with nursing intervention.
After nursing intervention, the patients of the trial group, compared with the controls, showed significantly lower SAS scores (39.05 ± 2.97 vs 45.71 ± 3.36, P < 0.01), SDS scores (41.74 ± 2.86 vs 47.28 ± 3.95, P < 0.01), and incidence of adverse reactions (22.50% vs 47.50%, P < 0.05), but a markedly higher rate of satisfaction with nursing intervention (95.00% vs 77.5%, P < 0.01).

This retrospective study included 122 cases of hypospadias treated by transferring the pedicled preputial island flap, 80 from one side of the penis (the control group) and the other 42 through the middle orifice of the vascular pedicle (the observation group). The AZS model was established in the latter three groups of rats by intragastrical administration of ornidazole at 400 mg/kg/d for 28 days, and meanwhile the animals in the HSC and LC groups were treated by gavage of HSC at 0.31 g/kg/d and LC at 100 mg/kg/d, respectively. Then, all the rats were killed for examination of the LC content, sperm concentration, sperm motility and expression of OCTN2 mRNA in the epididymis and observation of the histopathological changes in the testis tissue. A total of 160 patients with genital herpes treated with acyclovir plus thymosin in our hospital from January 2016 to December 2018 were randomly allocated to receive conventional nursing (the control group, n = 80) and psychological nursing (the trial group, n = 80). Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS) were used to evaluate the anxiety and depression of the patients, and comparisons were made between the two groups of patients in their SAS and SDS scores, the incidence of adverse reactions and their satisfaction with nursing intervention. To summarize the experience in the surgical treatment of hypospadias by analyzing the operation features and clinical effects of two different routes for transferring the pedicled preputial island flap. This retrospective study included 122 cases of hypospadias treated by transferring the pedicled preputial island flap, 80 from one side of the penis (the control group) and the other 42 through the middle orifice of the vascular pedicle (the observation group). We recorded the intra- and postoperative data and compared them between the two groups. Interviews covered knowledge and attitudes towards pig sentience and behaviour and welfare-related issues commonly observed in intensive pig farms (belly-nosing, fights, tail-biting, diarrhoea and castration without pain control) and farmers' conception and attitudes towards pig welfare. We identified many management and animal-based indicators of poor welfare, such as the use of painful and stressful management practices and use among the participants. This suggests that farmers may not be sufficiently informed or engaged in responding to consumers' expectations and commitments made by companies, which can pose a severe economic risk for farmers. The findings of this study indicate that economic, technical and social factors restrict farmers' autonomy and their ability to perform their role as stewards of animal welfare. No fasting before slaughtering. All animals received a single experimental diet. The efficiency of transferring energy from body reserves to milk was estimated using a multiple linear regression equation yielding a value of 0.76. The total energy stored in the empty body decreased over the eight lactation weeks, from 726.47 ± 26.19 to 316.18 ± 49.21 MJ, a 56.47% reduction, mainly because of a reduction in the energy from internal fat of 3.96 ± 1.98 MJ/day. Previous Mendelian randomization (MR) studies on 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) and cancer have typically adopted a handful of variants and found no relationship between 25(OH)D and cancer; however, issues of horizontal pleiotropy cannot be reliably addressed. Using a larger set of variants associated with 25(OH)D (74 SNPs, up from 6 previously), we perform a unified MR analysis to re-evaluate the relationship between 25(OH)D and ten cancers. Our findings are broadly consistent with previous MR studies indicating no relationship, apart from ovarian cancers (OR 0.89; 95% C.I 0.82 to 0.96 per 1 SD change in 25(OH)D concentration) and basal cell carcinoma (OR 1.16; 95% C.I. 1.04 to 1.28). The Yale-Penn cohort (N = 15,557) was recruited to investigate the genetics of SDs. The Army STARRS (Study to Assess Risk and Resilience in Servicemembers) cohort (N = 11,236) was recruited to evaluate mental health risk and resilience among Army personnel. We applied multivariate logistic regression to investigate the associations of SDs with suicidality and, in the Yale-Penn cohort, we used the structured linear mixed model (StructLMM) to study multivariate gene-environment interactions. In Yale-Penn, lifetime polysubstance dependence was strongly associated with lifetime suicidality having five SDs showed an association with suicidality, from odds ratio (OR) = 6.77 (95% confidence interval, CI = 5.74-7.99) for suicidal ideation (SI) to OR = 3.61 (95% CI = 2.7-4.86) for suicide attempt (SA). In Army STARRS, having multiple substance use disorders for alcohol and/or drugs was associated with increased suicidality ranging from OR = 2.88 (95% CI = 2.6-3.19) for SI to OR = 3.92 (95% CI = 3.19-4.81) for SA. The Yale-Penn cohort (N = 15,557) was recruited to investigate the genetics of SDs. The Army STARRS (Study to Assess Risk and Resilience in Servicemembers) cohort (N = 11,236) was recruited to evaluate mental health risk and resilience among Army personnel. We applied multivariate logistic regression to investigate the associations of SDs with suicidality and, in the Yale-Penn cohort, we used the structured linear mixed model (StructLMM) to study multivariate gene-environment interactions. In Yale-Penn, lifetime polysubstance dependence was strongly associated with lifetime suicidality having five SDs showed an association with suicidality, from odds ratio (OR) = 6.77 (95% confidence interval, CI = 5.74-7.99) for suicidal ideation (SI) to OR = 3.61 (95% CI = 2.7-4.86) for suicide attempt (SA). In Army STARRS, having multiple substance use disorders for alcohol and/or drugs was associated with increased suicidality ranging from OR = 2.88 (95% CI = 2.6-3.19) for SI to OR = 3.92 (95% CI = 3.19-4.81) for SA. In Yale-Penn, we identified multivariate gene-environment interactions (Bayes factors, BF > 0) of SI with respect to a gene cluster on chromosome 16 (LCAT, p = 1.82 × 10-7; TSNAXIP1, p = 2.13 × 10-7; CENPT, p = 2.32 × 10-7; PARD6A, p = 5.57 × 10-7) for opioid dependence (BF = 12.2), cocaine dependence (BF = 12.1), nicotine dependence (BF = 9.2), and polysubstance dependence (BF = 2.1). Methotrexate (MTX) is used as an anchor drug in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), although more than a half of the patients with RA require additional treatments. We designed a prospective study involving two medical centers in Japan to examine the association between the expression of MTX-related genes including a drug transporter ATP-binding cassette sub-family G member 2 (ABCG2) gene and the clinical response to MTX in MTX-naive patients with RA.
The primary endpoint of this study was good response based on the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) response criteria by Disease Activity Score using 28-joint count (DAS28). We evaluated the association between the baseline expression of six genes involved in the intracellular pharmacokinetics of MTX, including ABCG2, as well as their temporal changes, and the clinical response at week 12 from the initiation of MTX.
Based on the clinical response at 12 weeks after the initiation of MTX, 24 patients were classified into good responders (
= 9) and non-good responders (

We examined asthma control in children hospitalized for status asthmaticus 7-10 days after discharge with or without an additional prescription for systemic corticosteroids.
This was a prospective observational study of patients aged 5-17 years with a documented history of asthma or β-agonist responsive wheezing admitted to the hospital for an acute asthma exacerbation. We compared patients who had any systemic corticosteroid prescribed at discharge with those who were not prescribed systemic corticosteroids at discharge. The primary outcomes were asthma control after discharge, as defined by the Asthma Control Test (ACT), and missed school days, which we modeled with multivariable linear and Poisson regression, respectively.
A total of 56 patients were included in the study, 29 (52%) received dexamethasone inpatient and then were discharged without additional prescribed systemic corticosteroids. Therefore, microfluidization is being commonly used in the food industry for various purposes including the formation of micro- and nano-sized emulsions, encapsulation of easily degradable bioactive compounds, and improvement in functional properties of proteins, polysaccharides, and dietary fibers. Although the extent of modification through microfluidization depends on processing conditions (e.g., pressure, number of passes, solvent), the nature of the material to be processed also changes the outcomes significantly. Therefore, it is important to understand the effects of microfluidization on each food component. Overall, this review paper provides an overview of microfluidization treatment, summarizes the applications on macromolecules with specific examples, and presents the existing problems.

To test this, concentrations of metals (cadmium, copper, iron, mercury, lead, and zinc) were measured in fur and urine collected from Christmas Island flying-foxes and interpreted concurrently with urinalysis and serum biochemistry data. In addition, metal concentrations in liver and kidney samples from two Christmas Island flying-foxes and associated histological findings from one of these individuals are reported. Fur cadmium concentrations were significantly higher in the Christmas Island flying-fox compared to concentrations found in flying-foxes in mainland Australia. Additionally, 30% of Christmas Island flying-foxes had urine cadmium concentrations exceeding maximum concentrations previously reported in flying-foxes in mainland Australia. Glucosuria and proteinuria were identified in two Christmas Island flying-foxes, suggestive of renal dysfunction. Here, we use herring gull (Larus argentatus) eggs to evaluate temporal changes in total mercury (THg) availability from two locations on Great Slave Lake (GSL), Northwest Territories, Canada. Egg THg concentrations increased through time, but this change was due to shifts in gull diets. Stable nitrogen isotopes allowed adjustment of egg THg concentrations for dietary changes. Diet-adjusted egg THg concentrations showed no long-term trend. Consistent with that result, new statistical analysis of THg concentrations in three species of GSL fish showed minor or no temporal changes. Although a long-term trend was absent, inter-year differences in adjusted egg THg concentrations persisted. Contributions of environmental variables (i.e., river flow, lake level, air temperature, precipitation, and wildfire) to these differences were investigated. Egg THg concentrations were greater following years of lower lake levels and greater wildfire extent. Lake level could have affected mercury methylation. Different algal strains used in thermochemical techniques and their conditions of operation were compared and discussed. The yield and quality of solid (char), liquid (bio-oil) and gaseous (syngas) products obtained through thermochemical methods were reviewed and analysed to understand the efficacy of each technique.
