By modulating AKT isoform expression in MCF-10A and BT-549 cell lines, we found that presence of AKT2 was associated with invasiveness, stemness and sensitivity to drug treatment. Six hundred and seventy one family members voluntarily filled out the questionnaire after reading the purpose of the study. A total of 671 family members of front-line rescue workers participated in the survey, including 194 husbands/wives, 52 parents, 49 children, 76 brothers and sisters, and 300 other relationships.   • Binding motifs for transcription factors, RNA-binding proteins, microRNAs (miRNAs), etc. are vital for proper gene transcription and translation regulation. Sequence alteration mechanisms including single nucleotide mutations, insertion, deletion, RNA editing and single nucleotide polymorphism can lead to gains and losses of binding motifs; such consequentially emerged or vanished binding motifs are termed 'somatic motifs' by us. Somatic motifs have been studied sporadically but have never been curated into a comprehensive resource. By analyzing various types of sequence altering data from large consortiums, we successfully identified millions of somatic motifs, including those for important transcription factors, RNA-binding proteins, miRNA seeds and miRNA-mRNA 3'-UTR target motifs. While a few of these somatic motifs have been well studied, our results contain many novel somatic motifs that occur at high frequency and are thus likely to cause important biological repercussions. Genes targeted by these altered motifs are excellent candidates for further mechanism studies. Here, we present the first database that hosts millions of somatic motifs ascribed to a variety of sequence alteration mechanisms.Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is a molecularly heterogeneous group of malignancies with frequent genetic abnormalities. G-quadruplex (G4) DNA structures may facilitate this genomic instability through association with activation-induced cytidine deaminase (AID), an antibody diversification enzyme implicated in mutation of oncogenes in B-cell lymphomas.   • The transcription factor NRL (neural retina leucine zipper) has been canonized as the master regulator of photoreceptor cell fate in the retina. NRL is necessary and sufficient to specify rod cell fate and to preclude cone cell fate in ****. By engineering zebrafish, we tested if NRL function has conserved roles beyond mammals or beyond nocturnal species, i.e., in a vertebrate possessing a greater and more typical diversity of cone sub-types. Transgenic expression of Nrl from zebrafish or mouse was sufficient to induce rod photoreceptor cells. Zebrafish nrl -/- mutants lacked rods (and had excess UV-sensitive cones) as young larvae; thus, the conservation of Nrl function between **** and zebrafish appears sound. Strikingly, however, rods were abundant in adult nrl -/- null mutant zebrafish. Rods developed in adults despite Nrl protein being undetectable. We mapped these circuits in rats by cooling and microstimulation. Local cooling disrupted call production above an anterior and a posterior brainstem position. Anterior cooling affected predominantly high-frequency calls, whereas posterior cooling affected low-frequency calls. Electrical microstimulation of the anterior part led to modulated high-frequency calls, whereas microstimulation of the posterior part led to flat, low-frequency calls. At intermediate positions cooling did not affect calls and stimulation did not elicit calls. The anterior region corresponds to a subsection of the parvicellular reticular formation that we term the vocalization parvicellular reticular formation (VoPaRt). The posterior vocalization sites coincide with the nucleus retroambiguus (NRA). VoPaRt and NRA neurons were very small and the VoPaRt was highly myelinated, suggestive of high-speed processing.     The transcription factor NRL (neural retina leucine zipper) has been canonized as the master regulator of photoreceptor cell fate in the retina. NRL is necessary and sufficient to specify rod cell fate and to preclude cone cell fate in mice. By engineering zebrafish, we tested if NRL function has conserved roles beyond mammals or beyond nocturnal species, i.e., in a vertebrate possessing a greater and more typical diversity of cone sub-types. Transgenic expression of Nrl from zebrafish or mouse was sufficient to induce rod photoreceptor cells. Zebrafish nrl -/- mutants lacked rods (and had excess UV-sensitive cones) as young larvae; thus, the conservation of Nrl function between mice and zebrafish appears sound. Strikingly, however, rods were abundant in adult nrl -/- null mutant zebrafish. Rods developed in adults despite Nrl protein being undetectable. Therefore, a yet-to-be-revealed non-canonical pathway independent of Nrl is able to specify the fate of some rod photoreceptors.The mammalian vocal pattern generator is situated in the brainstem but its exact structure is debated. We mapped these circuits in rats by cooling and microstimulation. Local cooling disrupted call production above an anterior and a posterior brainstem position. Anterior cooling affected predominantly high-frequency calls, whereas posterior cooling affected low-frequency calls. Electrical microstimulation of the anterior part led to modulated high-frequency calls, whereas microstimulation of the posterior part led to flat, low-frequency calls. At intermediate positions cooling did not affect calls and stimulation did not elicit calls. The anterior region corresponds to a subsection of the parvicellular reticular formation that we term the vocalization parvicellular reticular formation (VoPaRt). The posterior vocalization sites coincide with the nucleus retroambiguus (NRA). VoPaRt and NRA neurons were very small and the VoPaRt was highly myelinated, suggestive of high-speed processing.   • For the type approval of compression ignition (diesel) and gasoline direct injection vehicles, a particle number (PN) limit of 6 × 1011 p/km is applicable. Diesel vehicles in circulation need to pass a periodical technical inspection (PTI) test, typically every two years, after the first four years of circulation. However, often the applicable smoke tests or on-board diagnostic (OBD) fault checks cannot identify malfunctions of the diesel particulate filters (DPFs). There are also serious concerns that a few high emitters are responsible for the majority of the emissions. For these reasons, a new PTI procedure at idle run with PN systems is under investigation. The correlations between type approval cycles and idle emissions are limited, especially for positive (spark) ignition vehicles. In this study the type approval PN emissions of 32 compression ignition and 56 spark ignition vehicles were compared to their idle PN concentrations from laboratory and on-road tests. The results confirmed that the idle test is applicable for diesel vehicles. The scatter for the spark ignition vehicles was **** larger. Nevertheless, the proposed limit for diesel vehicles was also shown to be applicable for these vehicles. The technical specifications of the PTI sensors based on these findings were also discussed.Human norovirus accounts for the majority of viral gastroenteritis cases worldwide. It is a fast evolving virus generating diversity via mutation and recombination. Therefore, new variants and new recombinant strains emerge in the norovirus population. We characterized norovirus positive stool samples from one intensively studied district Märkisch-Oderland state Brandenburg with the samples from other states of Germany in order to understand the molecular epidemiological dynamics of norovirus outbreaks in Germany 2018. PCR systems, Sanger sequencing, and phylogenetic analyses were used for genotyping. Noroviruses of 250 outbreaks in Germany were genotyped, including 39 outbreaks for the district Märkisch-Oderland. Viral diversity in Märkisch-Oderland as compared to Germany was similar, but not identical. The predominant genogroup in Germany was GII with predominate genotype GII.P16-GII.4 Sydney, whereas GII.P31-GII.4 Sydney was the most frequent in Märkisch-Oderland. Genogroup I viruses were less frequently detected, regional and national. Within the sequences of GII.4 recombinants, two distinct clusters were identified with outbreaks from Märkisch-Oderland. Further analysis of sequence data and detailed epidemiological data are needed in order to understand the link between outbreaks in such clusters. There were 582 participants; 282 were Italians, 202 were smokers and 42% were Italians. The response rate was 79.9% of Italian students and 79.6% of Polish students. The prevalence of smoking was significantly higher among Italian students (42% vs. 28.0%). Attitudes and behaviour of smokers and non-smokers differed statistically. Polish and Italian dental students presented statistically different behavior regarding the time to smoke the first cigarette, the willingness to stop smoking and trying to stop smoking in the last year. Here, we explore the extent to which genetic differentiation occurs between populations of the Mexican fruit fly, Anastrepha ludens, in association with four plant hosts (Citrus sinensis, C. paradisi, Mangifera indica and Casimiroa edulis) in the Soconusco region of Chiapas (Mexico). Using variants from six enzymatic loci, we obtained measures of genetic diversity for three sample arrangements (1) by sex per locality, (2) by locality and (3) by host. The extent of genetic differentiation in populations was assessed using the Analyses of Molecular Variance (AMOVA) method for each array of samples, and moderate to high levels of genetic variation were observed between the sexes, as well as among localities and host plants. A Bayesian approach was then used to assess any population structure underlying the genetic data we obtained, but this analysis showed no significant structuring due to locality or host plant. We also considered whether the observed genotypic frequencies in male and females matched those expected under a hypothesis of random mating. Here we found significant deviations from expected genotypic frequencies, suggesting that sexual selection is acting on these populations. Overall, our results indicate that sexual selection, along with the presence of some heterogeneity in environments provided by both geographical factors and availability of host plants, has influenced the evolution of pest populations in this region of Mexico. Implications for area-wide pest management strategies are discussed.Rift Valley fever (RVF) is a major viral zoonosis transmitted by mosquitoes. The virus is endemic in most parts of sub-Saharan Africa and can affect humans, livestock, and wild ungulates. Knowledge of the biology of vectors of Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV) is essential for the establishment of effective control measures of the disease. The objective of this study was to determine the species diversity and relative abundance of potential RVFV vectors in the North Region of Cameroon. https://www.selleckchem.com/EGFR(HER).html Adult mosquitoes were trapped during the wet and dry seasons from December 2017 to January 2019 with "EVS Light" traps with CO2 baits placed at selected sites. The captured mosquitoes were identified using dichotomous keys according to standard procedures. The abundance was calculated with regard to site, zone, and collection season. A total of 27,851 mosquitoes belonging to four genera (Aedes, Anopheles, Mansonia, and Culex) and comprising 31 species were caught (including 22 secondary vectors (98.05%) and nine primary vectors (1.94%). The total number of mosquitoes varied significantly depending on the locality (p-value less then 0.001). The average number of mosquitoes collected per trap night was significantly higher in irrigated areas (p-value less then 0.001), compared to urban and non-irrigated areas. The study revealed the presence of potential primary and secondary vectors of RVFV with varying abundance and diversity according to locality and ecological site in the North Region of Cameroon. The results showed that the genus Mansonia with the species Ma. uniformis and Ma. africana formed the dominant taxon (52.33%), followed by the genera Culex (45.04%) and Anopheles (2.61%). Increasing evidences supports the idea that the poor prognosis of patients is related to the presence of cancer stem cells (CSCs), a cell population able to drive cancer recurrence and metastasis. The deregulation of microRNAs (miRNAs) plays a role in the formation of CSC. We investigated the role of hsa-miR-486-5p (miR-486-5p) in CRC, CSCs, and metastasis, in order to reach a better understanding of the biomolecular and epigenetic mechanisms mir-486-5p-related. The expression of miR-486-5p was investigated in three different matrices from CRC patients and controls and in CSCs obtained from the CRC cell lines HCT-116, HT-29, and T-84. In the human study, miR-486-5p was up-regulated in serum and stool of CRC patients in comparison with healthy controls but down-regulated in tumor tissue when compared with normal mucosa. miR-486-5p was also down-regulated in the sera of metastatic patients. In vitro, miR-486-5p was down-regulated in CSC models and it induced an inhibitory effect on stem factors and oncogenes in the main pathways of CSCs. Brazil has been recently recognized (2015-2016) by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) with an FZ involving 15 states and the Federal District, corresponding to 95% of the industrial production of pigs in the country, and a non-free zone (NFZ), comprised by the North and Northeast regions of the country, with approximately 18% of the national pig herd and 5% of industrial production. This review aims to describe the history, the control and eradication actions, the recent occurrence of outbreaks in the NFZ, and the results obtained by the surveillance systems' action in the FZ for CSF in Brazil since its creation. In the passive surveillance system, the notification of the suspect cases of classical ***** fever (CSF) is mandatory while in the active surveillance system adopted in the FZ consists of serological monitoring of certified ***** breeding farms (CSBFs), intensive pig farming (IPF), non-technified pig herds (NTPig), surveillance in slaughterhouses and monitoring the populations of wild pigs.

Here, we explore the extent to which genetic differentiation occurs between populations of the Mexican fruit fly, Anastrepha ludens, in association with four plant hosts (Citrus sinensis, C. paradisi, Mangifera indica and Casimiroa edulis) in the Soconusco region of Chiapas (Mexico). Using variants from six enzymatic loci, we obtained measures of genetic diversity for three sample arrangements (1) by sex per locality, (2) by locality and (3) by host. The extent of genetic differentiation in populations was assessed using the Analyses of Molecular Variance (AMOVA) method for each array of samples, and moderate to high levels of genetic variation were observed between the sexes, as well as among localities and host plants. A Bayesian approach was then used to assess any population structure underlying the genetic data we obtained, but this analysis showed no significant structuring due to locality or host plant. We also considered whether the observed genotypic frequencies in male and females matched those expected under a hypothesis of random mating. Here we found significant deviations from expected genotypic frequencies, suggesting that sexual selection is acting on these populations. Overall, our results indicate that sexual selection, along with the presence of some heterogeneity in environments provided by both geographical factors and availability of host plants, has influenced the evolution of pest populations in this region of Mexico. A total of 27,851 mosquitoes belonging to four genera (Aedes, Anopheles, Mansonia, and Culex) and comprising 31 species were caught (including 22 secondary vectors (98.05%) and nine primary vectors (1.94%). Increasing evidences supports the idea that the poor prognosis of patients is related to the presence of cancer stem cells (CSCs), a cell population able to drive cancer recurrence and metastasis. The deregulation of microRNAs (miRNAs) plays a role in the formation of CSC. We investigated the role of hsa-miR-486-5p (miR-486-5p) in CRC, CSCs, and metastasis, in order to reach a better understanding of the biomolecular and epigenetic mechanisms mir-486-5p-related. The expression of miR-486-5p was investigated in three different matrices from CRC patients and controls and in CSCs obtained from the CRC cell lines HCT-116, HT-29, and T-84. In the human study, miR-486-5p was up-regulated in serum and stool of CRC patients in comparison with healthy controls but down-regulated in tumor tissue when compared with normal mucosa. miR-486-5p was also down-regulated in the sera of metastatic patients. In vitro, miR-486-5p was down-regulated in CSC models and it induced an inhibitory effect on stem factors and oncogenes in the main pathways of CSCs. In Brazil, the first description of the infection was reported in 1888, and the national recognition of the first free zone (FZ) occurred in 2001. Brazil has been recently recognized (2015-2016) by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) with an FZ involving 15 states and the Federal District, corresponding to 95% of the industrial production of pigs in the country, and a non-free zone (NFZ), comprised by the North and Northeast regions of the country, with approximately 18% of the national pig herd and 5% of industrial production. This review aims to describe the history, the control and eradication actions, the recent occurrence of outbreaks in the NFZ, and the results obtained by the surveillance systems' action in the FZ for CSF in Brazil since its creation. In the passive surveillance system, the notification of the suspect cases of classical swine fever (CSF) is mandatory while in the active surveillance system adopted in the FZ consists of serological monitoring of certified swine breeding farms (CSBFs), intensive pig farming (IPF), non-technified pig herds (NTPig), surveillance in slaughterhouses and monitoring the populations of wild pigs.

The most promising candidate was then carried forward to demonstrate SSF using the cellulosic fraction from municipal solid waste (MSW) as a feedstock.

    In seven dogs, the dental pulp was removed from the pulp chamber and from the root canals of the right and left third and the fourth mandibular premolars and of the left second premolar. The chambers were left opened and, after 3 months, apical lesions were present, and the premolars were extracted. One alveolus each premolar was selected and, before implant installation, the apical lesions of two alveoli were curetted (curettage group) while the other three were not treated (no-treatment group). The second right premolar was also extracted (Negative control group). Six implants each dog were installed, and a fully submerged healing was allowed. Four months after, biopsies were collected, and histological analyses were performed.

    The proportions of new bone at the entire body of the implant was 70.2 ± 10.7% at the no-treatment group, 72.1 ± 14.8% at the curettage group, and 69.6 ± 3.7% at the negative control group. Although this method is not as common in salivary gland surgery, it is also recommended for endoscopic treatment of sialolithiasis. In this study, we decided to analyse effectiveness of holmiumYAG laser method among patients with midsize stones as the treatment in this particular population is still not determined and remains in dispute. Thus, the primary aim of the study is a prospective, complex analysis of incorporeal holmiumYAG laser lithotripsy effectiveness and safety in patients suffering from sialolithiasis. The examined group consisted of 32 consecutive patients, 17 female (53%) and 15 male (47%). The average age was 42 (age range 22-70). In our series, sialoendoscopy with intraductal lithotripsy was performed in patients with wide range of stone's diameter (3 to 10 mm). The calculi were removed with foreign body forceps or retrieval basket, after stone fragmentation with holmiumYAG laser, it is still safer alternative compared to open surgery where there is a significant risk of the bleeding, wound infection or injury of the facial nerve.A new electrocatalytic biosensor (MOF-74(Cu) NS-CC) based on the in situ deposition of MOF-74(Cu) nanosheet on carbon cloth via a bottom-up synthetic approach in a glass tube was developed. The electrocatalytic activity of the deposited MOF-74(Cu) NS was demonstrated in the oxidation of glucose to gluconate under alkaline conditions. The results revealed that the proposed method of in situ formation of MOF-74(Cu) NS onto a carbon cloth surface in a multi-layer solution is capable to generate a stable MOF-74(Cu) NS-CC electrode with excellent sensing performance. When the as-synthesized MOF-74(Cu) NS-CC was applied directly as the working electrode for glucose sensing, it showed **** higher conductivity and redox activity than MOF-74(Cu) NS-GCE. With the potential applied at 0.55 V (vs. Ag/AgCl), this new electrocatalytic biosensor exhibits an excellent linear relationship between current density and concentration of glucose. Moreover, a wide linear range of detection (1.0 to 1000 μM) was observed. The limit of detection was found to be 0.

  • Although ketamine seems poised to transform the treatment of depression, its exact mechanisms of action are still unclear but greatly demanded, as the resulting knowledge may provide a model to understand the mechanisms behind rapid-acting antidepressants, which may lead to the discovery of novel compounds for the treatment of depression. After reviewing insights into ketamine's mechanisms of action (derived from preclinical animal studies) and depicting the current state of the art of hiPSC technology below, we will consider the implementation of an hiPSC technology-based TRD model for the study of ketamine's fast acting antidepressant mechanisms of action.
    Stopping antidepressants commonly causes withdrawal symptoms, which can be severe and long-lasting. National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance has been recently updated to reflect this; however, for many years withdrawal (discontinuation) symptoms were characterised as 'usually mild and self-limiting over a week'. Consequently, withdrawal symptoms might have been misdiagnosed as relapse of an underlying condition, or new onset of another medical illness, but this has never been studied.

    This paper outlines the themes emerging from 158 respondents to an open invitation to describe the experience of prescribed psychotropic medication withdrawal for petitions sent to British parliaments. The accounts include polypharmacy (mostly antidepressants and benzodiazepines) but we focus on antidepressants because of the relative lack of awareness about their withdrawal effects compared with benzodiazepines. Mixed method analysis was used, including a 'lean thinking' approach to evaluate common awal experiences that are more severe than average, they highlight the current inadequacy of health care systems to recognise and manage prescribed drug withdrawal, and patient feedback in general.
    Several points for improvement emerge the need for updating of guidelines to help prescribers recognise antidepressant withdrawal symptoms and to improve informed consent processes; greater availability of non-pharmacological options for managing distress; greater availability of best practice for tapering medications such as antidepressants; and the vital importance of patient feedback. Although the patients captured in this analysis might represent medication withdrawal experiences that are more severe than average, they highlight the current inadequacy of health care systems to recognise and manage prescribed drug withdrawal, and patient feedback in general.Randomized controlled trials' ability to produce evidence useful for people to decide whether to take, continue taking, or stop taking psychotropic drugs has been intensely critiqued, along with the trials' commercial, ideological, and regulatory contexts. This article applies the critique to the topic of withdrawal effects confounding the outcomes of relapse-prevention trials where prescribed psychotropic drugs are discontinued. Until recently, the complexity and reach of withdrawal and post-withdrawal effects were neglected by mainstream psychiatry, but not by lay users of prescribed psychotropics. This article discusses withdrawal effects as part of the pharmacology of psychotropic drugs but shaped by psychosocial factors, and possibly shaping the presentation of psychological distress generally. It outlines biases and misconceptions in assumptions, design, and reporting of general efficacy trials and findings from a recent review of 80 discontinuation trials. In theory, relapse-prevention trials are tautological and exaggerate efficacy. In publications, they pay little attention to the central feature of their design, favor abrupt or rapid discontinuations, do not attend to environmental factors, and provide insufficient data to allow re-analyses. Thus, relapse-prevention RCTs likely confound the detection of their main outcome of interest "relapse." Using slower tapers, active placebo controls, and specific covariates in analyses would reduce the risk of withdrawal confounding, and better reporting would reduce the opaqueness of trials. The crisis in psychopharmacology is fueled partly by the disconnect between claims of therapeutic efficacy from so-called best-evidence methods despite unchanging population-level indicators of psychiatric sickness. They were used to quantify structure and function of the skin's Matrisome, comprised of core ECM components and ECM-associated soluble signals that are key regulators of epidermal development. We especially revealed that ECM played a role in determining the fate of epidermal stem cells through hemidesmosome components. These concepts not only bring us a new understanding of the role of the skin ECM niche, they also provide an attractive combinational strategy based on tissue engineering principles with skin biomatrix scaffold materials for the acceleration and enhancement of tissue regeneration.

At Mayo Clinic, we have operated on more than 6000 patients with degenerative mitral valve disease and valve prolapse, and this review details our approach to mitral valve repair, including robotic and minimally invasive techniques. Most patients with isolated leaflet prolapse can be managed with leaflet plication or triangular resection, and chordal replacement is reserved for repair of anterior leaflet prolapse. Posterior annuloplasty with a standard-sized flexible band is used to reduce annular circumference and improve leaflet coaptation. With these methods, early risk of mortality for mitral valve repair is low in the current era ( less then  1%), and rate of recurrent valve leakage is 1.5 per 100 patient-years during the first year post-repair and 0.9 per 100 patient-years thereafter. I will not wade into the accusations of malfeasance, but the bottom line is that, superiority of percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) to CABG is yet to be proved. Heart-team approach has been discussed in every aspect, but in real-world scenario, to what extent, and in what manner the same is practised, remains a question. We need an objective type of heart-team approach than a subjective heart-team approach.Benign extra-gonadal germ cell tumors, known as teratoma or dermoid cysts, are commonly found in the anterior mediastinum in association with the thymic gland. This association is due to their common site of embryological origins, from the third and the fourth pharyngeal pouches. Since it is not unusual to find normal thymic tissue in the neck, germ cell tumors arising from here will present as a cervical tumor. We submit the typical images of one such tumor in a young adult. Intraoperatively, the tumor was well encapsulated and was connected to the mediastinal thymus by a long pedicle of thymic tissue. It was not related to the thyroid gland unlike a primary cervical teratoma. We present these typical images of a mediastinal dermoid in this unusual cervical location. The differential diagnoses to be considered clinically are primary cervical teratomas, thyroid tumors, lymph nodal pathologies, and branchial cyst.

  • A 40-year-old female was found to have strongly neutralizing SARS-CoV-2 breastmilk IgA and IgG antibodies reactive against multiple SARS-CoV-2 antigens at 2.5 months after documented infection with SARS-CoV-2. At 6.5 months following the infection, she remained positive for breastmilk and serum SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing antibodies. Holder breast milk pasteurization did not diminish SARS-CoV-2 antibody titres but it reduced its neutralizing capacity, while serum heat inactivation had no negative effect on SARS-CoV-2 serum antibody levels and neutralizing capacity. Current data on SARS-CoV-2 and breastmilk are reviewed.
    The current study explored the relationship between parental attachment and disordered eating among college students. This study also explored the potential mediating role of factors associated with emotion regulation.
    One hundred sixty-seven undergraduates (
     = 18.93 years,
     = 1.02) participated in the current study.
    Participants completed an anonymous questionnaire reporting their perceptions of their parental attachment relationships, emotional reactivity, difficulty regulating emotions, and disordered eating.
    Analyses using structural equation modeling indicated that difficulty regulating emotions mediated the relationship between maternal attachment and disordered eating, but not between paternal attachment and disordered eating. Emotional reactivity did not emerge as a significant mediator.
    These findings suggest that maternal attachment relationships may be associated with difficulty regulating emotions in adulthood, which may in turn impact disordered eating attitudes and behaviors.

    LGBTQ + students (n = 71) engaged in 17% less aerobic PA and 42% less resistance training than their counterparts (n = 335; both p < .05). LGBTQ + students reported 6.5% lower total Exercise Benefits and Barriers Scale scores and 13.3% higher Barriers Scale scores (both p < .05).
    LGBTQ + college students are at higher risk of not meeting PA guidelines than non-LGBTQ + students. More perceived barriers and fewer perceived benefits to PA may contribute to this disparity. Identification of LGBTQ+-specific barriers to PA among college students is needed to inform programming to increase PA among this at-risk community.

Methods We performed a cross-sectional study of US paramedic education programs accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs as of April 2020. Program locations were geocoded to county, and population estimates from the US Census Bureau were used to determine the adult population within the program's potential catchment area (30, 50, and 100 miles). Clustering of programs was examined using Moran's I. We compared community characteristics obtained from the 2018 American Community Survey, 2018-2019 Area Health Resources Files, and 2018 National Emergency Department Inventory between counties with and without programs. Logistic regin 30 miles of an existing paramedic education program; however, this decreases to 22% in rural areas. Geographic barriers to accessing paramedic education remain a challenge for ongoing efforts to address the rural EMS workforce shortage.In Uganda, the municipal solid wastes are generally a menace to the environment, ranging from indiscriminate dumping, open burning, and landfills, which would be utilized to augment agricultural fields through organic manure. The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) of Uganda, however from 2009 to 2012 initiated and implemented a Clean Development Mechanism project. This project was established and conducted in nine urban centres with the key objective of reducing methane and other environmental nuisances while generating compost manure. The in-coming fresh municipal wastes at composting facilities were sorted into six categories; i) wood and wood products, ii) food and food wastes, iii) textiles, iv) garden, yard and park wastes, v) paper and pulp, and vi) glass, plastics, and metals. These were laboratory analysed based on standard procedures, characterized and investigated for the pH, total organic carbon (TOC), total nitrogen (TN), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), and magnesium (Mg) (g kg-1). Statistical analyses were performed based on One-Way ANOVA, implemented in the SPSS program. The results indicate that the municipal fresh solid wastes were mainly dominated by biodegradable organic matter; garden, yard, and park wastes (49%), food and food wastes (43.2%), and the other wastes falling below 5.4%. Overall, the pH was 7.7±0.02, TOC 318.2±2.90, TN 12.1±0.10, C/N 26.7±0.20, P 4.4±0.04, K 35.0±0.49, Ca 38.9±0.51, and Mg 5.8±0.09. The concentration of the fresh wastes and macro-nutrients varied per municipality and were congruent with the economic activities and population lifestyles. We detected the effect of season/month on the concentration of wastes which corresponded with the various agronomical activities. The results from this study suggest that the notion of composting is potentially a viable organic waste management strategy in the country which can ultimately generate sufficient organic manure for agricultural input and thus enhanced carbon sequestration.

    A total of 4402 university freshmen and sophomores were recruited to report their general health through an online questionnaire.

    Responses from the DePaul Symptom Questionnaire were analyzed. We then conducted latent class analyses to evaluate 54 different symptoms among participants.

    A four class solution was identified, consisting of a group of asymptomatic students (35.65%), a second group of students reporting mild fatigue and sleep symptoms (38.87%), a third group reporting moderate sleep and fatigue symptoms (20.36%), and a group reporting moderate and severe complaints on the majority of symptoms (5.11%). Female students had 2.07 times the relative risk of the severe symptom class of men. Indigenous students have 2.88 times the relative risk of occupying the severe symptom class than non-indigenous students.
