Many complex human traits exhibit differences between sexes. While numerous factors likely contribute to this phenomenon, growing evidence from genome-wide studies suggest a partial explanation that males and females from the same population possess differing genetic architectures. Despite this, mapping gene-by-sex (G×S) interactions remains a challenge likely because the magnitude of such an interaction is typically and exceedingly small; traditional genome-wide association techniques may be underpowered to detect such events partly due to the burden of multiple test correction. Here, we developed a local Bayesian regression (LBR) method to estimate sex-specific SNP marker effects after fully accounting for local linkage-disequilibrium (LD) patterns. This enabled us to infer sex-specific effects and G×S interactions either at the single SNP level, or by aggregating the effects of multiple SNPs to make inferences at the level of small LD-based regions. Using simulations in which there was imperfect LD between SNPs and causal variants, we showed that aggregating sex-specific marker effects with LBR provides improved power and resolution to detect G×S interactions over traditional single-SNP-based tests. When using LBR to analyze traits from the UK Biobank, we detected a relatively large G×S interaction impacting bone-mineral density within ABO and replicated many previously detected large-magnitude G×S interactions impacting waist-to-hip ratio. We also discovered many new G×S interactions impacting such traits as height and BMI within regions of the genome where both male- and female-specific effects explain a small proportion of phenotypic variance (R2 less then 1x10-4), but are enriched in known expression quantitative trait loci. Bacterial genera potentially involved in the sulfur oxidation and the nitrate reduction (Halothiobacillus and Methylobacterium) prevailed in both waters over the sulfate reducers ("Candidatus Desulforudis" and Desulfotomaculum). Only one archaeal taxon, affiliated to the order Thermoplasmatales, was detected in analyzed samples. Bacterial isolates obtained from these deep hot brines were closely related to Bacillus paralicheniformis based on the 16S rRNA sequence similarity. However, genomic and physiological analyses made for one of the isolates, Bacillus paralicheniformis strain TS6, revealed the existence of more divecillus paralicheniformis isolate obtained from the brine under study, differed from the mesophilic species in the presence of specific adaptations to harsh environmental conditions. Between August 2014 and August 2017, 6185 HIV-1 positive individuals were enrolled in 3 GP and 10 FF communities, 3 WHR enrollment sites. A total of 2531 antiretroviral therapy (ART) naïve participants with plasma viral load >1000 copies/mL were deep-sequenced. One hundred and twenty-three transmission networks were reconstructed, including 105 phylogenetically highly supported source-recipient pairs. Only one pair involved a WHR and male participant, suggesting that improved population sampling is needed to assess empirically the role of WHR to the transmission dynamics. More transmissions were observed from the GP communities to FF communities than vice versa, with an estimated flow ratio of 1.56 (95% CrI 0.68-3.72), indicating that fishing communities on Lake Victoria are not a net source of transmission flow to neighboring communities further inland. Men contributed disproportionally to HIV-1 transmission flow regardless of age, suggesting that prevention efforts need to better aid men to engage with and stay in care.Algae have multiple similarities with fungi, with both belonging to the Thallophyte, a polyphyletic group of non-mobile organisms grouped together on the basis of similar characteristics, but not sharing a common ancestor. The main difference between algae and fungi is noted in their metabolism. In fact, although algae have chlorophyll-bearing thalloids and are autotrophic organisms, fungi lack chlorophyll and are heterotrophic, not able to synthesize their own nutrients. However, our studies have shown that the extremophilic microalga Galderia sulphuraria (GS) can also grow very well in heterotrophic conditions like fungi. This study was carried out using several approaches such as scanning electron microscope (SEM), gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS), and infrared spectrophotometry (ATR-FTIR). Results showed that the GS, strain ACUF 064, cultured in autotrophic (AGS) and heterotrophic (HGS) conditions, produced different biomolecules. In particular, when grown in HGS, the algae (i) was 30% larger, with an increase in carbon mass that was 20% greater than AGS; (ii) produced higher quantities of stearic acid, oleic acid, monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), and ergosterol; (iii) produced lower quantities of fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) such as methyl palmytate, and methyl linoleate, saturated fatty acids (SFAs), and poyliunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). ATR-FTIR and principal component analysis (PCA) statistical analysis confirmed that the macromolecular content of HGS was significantly different from AGS. The ability to produce different macromolecules by changing the trophic conditions may represent an interesting strategy to induce microalgae to produce different biomolecules that can find applications in several fields such as food, feed, nutraceutical, or energy production.Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) has been a material of interest for retrofitting reinforced concrete elements because of its pioneer mechanical and material properties. Numerous experimental studies for retrofitting concrete structures have shown an improvement in durability performance and structural behaviour. However, conservative and sometimes erroneous estimates for bond strength are used for numerically calculating the strength of the composite members. In addition, different roughening methods have been used to improve the bond mechanism; however, there is a lack of numerical simulation for the force transfer mechanism between the concrete substrate and UHPC as a repair material. This paper presents an experimental and numerical programme designed to characterize the interfacial properties of concrete substrate and its effect on the bond strength between the two materials. The experimental programme evaluates the bond strength between the concrete substrates and UHPC with two different surface preparations while using bi-surface test and additional material tests, including cylinder and cube tests for compression property, direct tension test, and flexural test to complement UHPC tensile properties. Non-linear finite element analysis was conducted, which uses a numerical zero thickness volume model to define the interface bond instead of a traditional fixed contact model. The numerical results from the zero thickness volume model show good agreement with the experimental results with a reduction in error by 181% and 24% for smooth and rough interface surfaces if compared to the results from the model with a fixed contact.

The surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA) value and cluster analyses were used to rank treatment by probability. Eighty-five studies involving 11 CHIs and 5801 subjects were included. Compared with WM alone, CHI plus WM showed an improved complete/total remission rate as well as higher serum albumin and lower 24-hour urinary protein excretion, except in the following Yinxingye injection plus WM did not improve the total remission rate, and Dengzhanhua or Xueshuantong injection plus WM did not lower the 24-hour urinary protein excretion. Either Danhong (DH) or Dengzhanhua (DZH) injection plus WM was the preferable treatment for PNS based on SUCRA and cluster analyses of clinical remission and adverse events. However, considering that literature in this area is limited, these results need further validation. CHIs administered as adjuvants to WM showed favourable outcomes for PNS. DH + WM and DZH + WM might be the potential optimal therapies for PNS. Understanding the problems of exports and factors affecting it, can be an important step to keep Iran's position in the world markets and further export development of this product. In this study, Iranian pharmaceutical exports' supply and demand functions were calculated using co-integration and error correction techniques through time series quarterly data of 2000-2014 in order to identify the factors affecting pharmaceutical exports (short run and long run relationships among the variables) and price and income elasticities. The long run price elasticity of demand of -2.28 indicates that an increase in Iran's export price relative to competitor's export price will have a negative impact on pharmaceutical export volume. Also, the long run income elasticity of foreign demand for pharmaceutical exports of Iran is 1.11. That is an increase in income of foreign countries will have a positive impact on Iran's pharmaceutical export. On the other hand, the long run price elasticity of export supply is 1.09, indicating that the supply of pharmaceutical export is sensitive to the relative price changes. In other words, an increase in export price relative to domestic price as well as an expansion of the pharmaceutical production capacity will increase its export supply. Being aware of the factors affecting the pharmaceutical exports can prepare the ground to develop the pharmaceutical industry and balance the supply and demand in the long run. The findings indicated that accessing the current medication data and medication history of patients during prescription, and also creating the electronic patient medication record (ePMR) are the most important selective components for physicians with frequency percent of 92.1%. Moreover, from the physicians' viewpoint, the method of "transmission of prescriptions to the central national database and retrieving prescriptions information from the selected pharmacy of the patient" had the highest priority (weight coefficient) in the model of the national electronic prescription system. Therefore, the Iranian prescription system is required to be developed based on the centralized architecture and national electronic prescription database.Evaluation of pharmaceutical systems performance is an essential prerequisite for promoting evidence-based policy-making and improvement in health system performance. The surface under the cumulative ranking curve (SUCRA) value and cluster analyses were used to rank treatment by probability. Eighty-five studies involving 11 CHIs and 5801 subjects were included. Compared with WM alone, CHI plus WM showed an improved complete/total remission rate as well as higher serum albumin and lower 24-hour urinary protein excretion, except in the following Yinxingye injection plus WM did not improve the total remission rate, and Dengzhanhua or Xueshuantong injection plus WM did not lower the 24-hour urinary protein excretion. Either Danhong (DH) or Dengzhanhua (DZH) injection plus WM was the preferable treatment for PNS based on SUCRA and cluster analyses of clinical remission and adverse events. However, considering that literature in this area is limited, these results need further validation. CHIs administered as adjuvants to WM showed favourable outcomes for PNS. Understanding the problems of exports and factors affecting it, can be an important step to keep Iran's position in the world markets and further export development of this product. In this study, Iranian pharmaceutical exports' supply and demand functions were calculated using co-integration and error correction techniques through time series quarterly data of 2000-2014 in order to identify the factors affecting pharmaceutical exports (short run and long run relationships among the variables) and price and income elasticities. The long run price elasticity of demand of -2.28 indicates that an increase in Iran's export price relative to competitor's export price will have a negative impact on pharmaceutical export volume. Also, the long run income elasticity of foreign demand for pharmaceutical exports of Iran is 1.11. That is an increase in income of foreign countries will have a positive impact on Iran's pharmaceutical export. On the other hand, the long run price elasticity of export supply is 1.09, indicating that the supply of pharmaceutical export is sensitive to the relative price changes. In other words, an increase in export price relative to domestic price as well as an expansion of the pharmaceutical production capacity will increase its export supply. Being aware of the factors affecting the pharmaceutical exports can prepare the ground to develop the pharmaceutical industry and balance the supply and demand in the long run. Current methods of diagnosing superior semicircular canal dehiscence syndrome (SCDS) include a clinical exam, audiometric testing, temporal bone computer tomography (CT) imaging, and vestibular evoked myogenic potential (VEMP) testing. The main objective of this study was to develop an improved diagnostic approach to SCDS optimized for accuracy, efficiency, and safety that utilizes clinical presentation, audiometric testing, CT imaging, high-frequency cervical VEMP (cVEMP) testing, and patient treatment preference. A secondary aim was to investigate the cost associated with the current versus proposed diagnostic paradigms.
All patients who underwent cVEMP testing since introduction of the 2 kHz cVEMP in our clinical protocol in July 2018 were screened. Patients suspected of SCDS based upon symptoms who also had available audiogram, CT scan, and 2 kHz cVEMP were included (58 ears). Patients were categorized as dehiscent, thin, or not dehiscent based on their CT scan. Symptom prevalence and cVEMP outcomes wshould undergo CT scanning resulted in a potential cost reduction between 45% and 61%.

This study examined the psychosocial, adaptive behavior, and language outcomes of young children who are hard of hearing (HH) without additional disabilities or neurocognitive impairments. Relations between early developmental outcomes and child and parent demographic variables, and parenting stress and self-efficacy were also explored.
Participants were 39 children with early identified, permanent mild to severe hearing loss, between the ages of 2 and 3 years, and a comparison group of 47 children with normal hearing (NH). Developmental outcomes were measured using clinician-administered standardized tests and parent-completed behavior rating instruments specific to language, psychosocial functioning, and adaptive behavior. Mothers completed self-report measures that assess parenting stress and maternal self-efficacy.
The children who are HH were similar to the children with NH in terms of their psychosocial functioning and adaptive behavior, with the exception of their socialization skills. As a groups suggest that language delays increase their vulnerability for delays in various aspects of social competence.

Glucocorticoids and opioids are longstanding, common treatments for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) symptoms. High-quality clinical trials have established that glucocorticoids improve outcomes in RA, but debate continues as to whether their benefits outweigh their risks. We reviewed recent studies on patterns of glucocorticoid and opioid prescribing in RA, and associated harms.
At present, a large proportion of RA patients remain on glucocorticoids and/or opioids long-term. Likelihood and risk of both glucocorticoid and opioid exposure vary across the population, and are influenced by provider factors. Opioids are also associated with delays in disease-modifying treatment initiation. Recent evidence increasingly demonstrates toxicity associated with even low-dose glucocorticoids (≤7.5 mg/day). Up to two-thirds of RA patients may be able to discontinue chronic low-dose glucocorticoids without flare or adrenal insufficiency. These new data have led to changes in clinical practice guidelines for glucocorticoid use in RA.

RA-ILD also occurs in early RA, when exuberant autoantibody production and systemic inflammation may propagate pulmonary disease activity. In patients with established RA, a high burden of subclinical and clinical ILD results in significant morbidity, mortality, and healthcare expenditure.

Swimmers with physical and motor impairment may present asymmetries that are even more pronounced. Therefore, the objective of this study was to assess the symmetry of temporal coordination in the front crawl stroke phases and their dimensional characteristics among swimmers of different levels of skill and disabled swimmers. Forty-one swimmers (28 men and 13 women, 18,8 ± 3,3 years, divided 21 of them into groups of high and low level of skill and 20 in disabled swimmers group) performed a 50m maximum of front-crawl test while they were recorded by six synchronized cameras (four underwater and two above water) for analysis of the stroke phases, stroke dimensions (anteroposterior, mediolateral and vertical amplitude), index of coordination and hand speed. The symmetry index was calculated by the difference between the right and the left strokes. Comparisons were made using the Kruskal-Wallis test and multivariate comparisons were made using the Mann-Whitney test, with p less then 0.05. Asymmetry was noted in anteroposterior and mediolateral amplitudes of the stroke, index of coordination, duration of the recovery phase, each of the underwater phases and in the hand speed during the downseep phase, regardless of the level of skill or impairment. The disabled swimmers also showed asymmetry in the vertical amplitude of the stroke as well as in the insweep and upsweep speed. The reasons for these asymmetries may be the preference for unilateral breathing, force imbalance between pairs of homologous muscles and motor control deficit. The training with stereotypic movements may explain the similarity of asymmetries among the different groups of swimmers.Reproducibility of results is essential for a well-designed and conducted experiment. Several reasons may originate failure in reproducing data, such as selective reporting, low statistical power, or poor analysis. In this study, we used PEG6000 samples from different distributors and tested their capability inducing spheroid formation upon surface coating. MALDI-MS, NMR, FTIR, and Triple SEC analysis of the different PEG60000s showed nearly identical physicochemical properties different, with only minor differences in mass and hydrodynamic radius, and AFM analysis showed no significant differences in the surface coatings obtained with the available PEG6000s. METHODS Thirty-two schizophrenia patients and 30 healthy controls were recruited. The PANSS and a neurocognitive test battery were used to assess schizophrenic symptomatology and cognition, respectively. Serum IGF-2, IGFBP-3 and IGFBP-7 levels were determined using ELISA. RESULTS The schizophrenia patients had a **** lower content of serum IGF-2, IGFBP-3 and IGFBP-7 than controls. For the patients, IGF-2 levels were negatively correlated with the PANSS negative scores and positively associated with working memory, attention, and executive function. The correlations between IGF-2 and the PANSS negative scores, working memory or executive function were still significant after controlling for age, sex, education level, BMI, illness history and age of onset.

Therefore, the objective of this study was to assess the symmetry of temporal coordination in the front crawl stroke phases and their dimensional characteristics among swimmers of different levels of skill and disabled swimmers. Forty-one swimmers (28 men and 13 women, 18,8 ± 3,3 years, divided 21 of them into groups of high and low level of skill and 20 in disabled swimmers group) performed a 50m maximum of front-crawl test while they were recorded by six synchronized cameras (four underwater and two above water) for analysis of the stroke phases, stroke dimensions (anteroposterior, mediolateral and vertical amplitude), index of coordination and hand speed. The symmetry index was calculated by the difference between the right and the left strokes. Comparisons were made using the Kruskal-Wallis test and multivariate comparisons were made using the Mann-Whitney test, with p less then 0.05. Asymmetry was noted in anteroposterior and mediolateral amplitudes of the stroke, index of coordination, duration of the recovery phase, each of the underwater phases and in the hand speed during the downseep phase, regardless of the level of skill or impairment. The reasons for these asymmetries may be the preference for unilateral breathing, force imbalance between pairs of homologous muscles and motor control deficit. In this study, we used PEG6000 samples from different distributors and tested their capability inducing spheroid formation upon surface coating. The PANSS and a neurocognitive test battery were used to assess schizophrenic symptomatology and cognition, respectively. Serum IGF-2, IGFBP-3 and IGFBP-7 levels were determined using ELISA. RESULTS The schizophrenia patients had a much lower content of serum IGF-2, IGFBP-3 and IGFBP-7 than controls. For the patients, IGF-2 levels were negatively correlated with the PANSS negative scores and positively associated with working memory, attention, and executive function. Prior studies have identified longer operative times as a risk factor for complications after numerous types of procedures. We hypothesized that increased operative time, in 20-min intervals, would be associated with complications following total shoulder arthroplasty.
Patients undergoing total shoulder arthroplasty from 2006 to 2015 were identified from the ACS-NSQIP database. Patient demographic information, perioperative parameters, and 30-day outcomes were retrieved. Pearson's Chi-square test and multivariate Poisson regression with robust error variance were used to analyze the relationship of operative time and outcomes.
A total of 10,082 patients were included. Multivariate analysis revealed that for each increase in 20 min of operative time, there were significantly increased rates of any complication (relative risk (RR) 1.24, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.19-1.26), anemia requiring transfusion (RR 1.33, 95%CI 1.26-1.4), peripheral nerve injury (RR 1.88, 95%CI 1.53-2.31), and urinary tract infection (RR 1.24, 95%CI 1.09-1.41).
This study indicates that increasing operative time confers increased risk for postoperative complications following total shoulder arthroplasty. We anticipate the results of this manuscript will be used for provider education, policy decision-making, and potentially to derive algorithms that can improve safety and efficiency in total shoulder arthroplasty.

Early reports of stemless shoulder arthroplasty have shown promising clinical and radiological outcomes. The purpose of this study was to report on the mid-term results of an implant that utilises a ceramic humeral head.
A prospective, consecutive, multicentre study of stemless shoulder prosthesis with a minimum of four years of follow-up was conducted between August 2009 and May 2012. The adjusted Constant-Murley Score (CMS), revision rate and presence of radiolucent lines were recorded at intervals.
A total of 207 patients were eligible for study inclusion; 62.8% were female and mean age was 64.8 years (range 30-86). Mean follow-up was 70.7 months (range 48-100), 73% underwent TSA and 27% hemiarthroplasty. The mean CMS improvement was 42.6 (p < 0.0001) at 48 months. Radiolucencies were present in 2.7% of humeral zones and 14% of glenoid zones at 48-month follow-up. The revision rate was 6.3% with rotator cuff failure (2.9%) the most common indication.

To examine this effect, a multicentric prospective randomized study (level of evidence 1) was initiated one group (group P, n = 24) received intraoperative pressurization of cement into the cancellous bone of the glenoid, the other cement without pressure (group NoP, n = 27). Inclusion criteria were an osteoarthritis with glenoid erosion <15° and an intact rotator cuff.
There were no significant differences preoperatively between the groups regarding age (mean age 66 ± 10 years (range 44-81)), gender, range of motion, scores and pathomorphology. Both groups had a significant improvement of the scores, strength, motion and satisfaction 25.5 months after the intervention. The scores were similar between the groups (ns). However, cement pressurization at the glenoid side significantly reduced the incidence of radiolucent lines (p < 0.027).
This supports the use of this simple technique to improve long-term survival of total shoulder arthroplasty.

This study aims to identify risk factors related to postoperative instability after reverse shoulder arthroplasty and evaluate the modalities and results of treatments in a large series of patients, with medium to long-term follow-up.
Retrospective multicenter series of 1035 consecutive Grammont type reverse shoulder arthroplasties implanted between 1992 and 2010. 19.9% had a reverse shoulder arthroplasty with bony lateralization on the glenoid side. Patients were reviewed and radiographed with minimum five years' follow-up.
At a mean follow-up of eight years, the overall rate of postoperative instability was 3.0%. Instability was more frequent in case of reverse shoulder arthroplasty for revision surgery, in younger patients, in case of scapular notching, and tuberosity resorption. Lateralized reverse shoulder arthroplasties were associated with a lower instability rate. A reoperation to restore stability was needed in 70% of cases. Background The intergenerational continuity of undernutrition is influenced by shared genetic, household socio-economic and cultural resources which will be associated with the mother and the child nutritional status, possibly to the same degree. Provided that this assumption is valid, maternal height and BMI could be a simple way of measuring nutritional status of their children. Methods Data were obtained from the 2011 Ethiopia Demographic and Health Survey (EDHS 2011). An analytical sample of 8, 505 children whose mothers are not pregnant and live with their biological mothers was included. The bivariate associations between nutritional indices of the mother and the children were analyzed with Pearson correlation coefficients. The purpose of this study was to identify perceived barriers and enablers of healthy eating in college students ages 18-24 at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa. Methods Prior to conducting focus groups, an interview guide was developed based on a literature review of relevant studies. The interview guide was successfully tested in the first focus group and used in the rest of the focus groups. Eleven focus groups with group sizes of two to six were conducted (n = 44). Focus groups were audio-recorded and transcribed. Transcripts were coded in NVIVO11 using content analysis, and additional codes were added to the codebook based on emergent ideas from the transcripts. After completion of the final codebook, transcripts were recoded with the new codebook. Final code counts were used to identify overarching ideas based on the socio-ecological model of healthed students. Results from this study identify potential areas of intervention, such as improving nutrition knowledge (individual), offering more healthy options (physical environmental), or reducing cost of food (macrosystem). Method The subjects (577 women and 257 men) filled in a validated computerized food frequency questionnaire. The questionnaire was based on recommendations from the Swedish national food administration. To associate the dietary habits to BMI, body fat (%), waist circumference and to HOMA-IR the subjects were divided in two groups. Subjects "eating as recommended" and subjects "eating less/more than recommended". The practice deprives newborns of valuable nutrients and protection of colostrum and exposes them to preventable morbidity and mortality. Studying the prevalence and factors influencing the prelacteal feeding practice of mothers will help program managers and implementers to properly address broad major public health problems. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the prevalence of prelacteal feeding practices and its associated factors among mother-infant dyads in the Debre Berhan district of North Shoa administrative zone, central Ethiopia. Methods A community-based cross-sectional study design was conducted from January through to April 2014 among 634 mother-infant dyads. The data were entered into EPI Info version 3.5.1. (CDC, Atlanta, Georgia). All statistical analysis was conducted using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) research IBM version 20.0. Similarly, with regards to the occupation of mothers, farmers practiced prelacteal feedings (AOR 4.33; 95% CI 1.73-10.81, p-value = 0.002) up to four folds more than their counterpart housewives. Mothers who can read and write are 54% less likely to practice prelacteal feeding than their counterpart, illiterate mothers, with (AOR 0.46; 95% CI 0.22-0.98, p-value = 0.044). Conclusions In the Debre Berhan town of North Shoa administrative zone, central Ethiopia, almost one-sixth of mothers practiced prelacteal feeding. Therefore, improving access to information about appropriate newborn feeding practices, encouraging mothers to deliver their babies in health institutions and inspiring them to initiate breastfeeding within an hour of birth is recommended. © The Author(s). 2019.

Similarly, with regards to the occupation of mothers, farmers practiced prelacteal feedings (AOR 4.33; 95% CI 1.73-10.81, p-value = 0.002) up to four folds more than their counterpart housewives. Mothers who can read and write are 54% less likely to practice prelacteal feeding than their counterpart, illiterate mothers, with (AOR 0.46; 95% CI 0.22-0.98, p-value = 0.044). Conclusions In the Debre Berhan town of North Shoa administrative zone, central Ethiopia, almost one-sixth of mothers practiced prelacteal feeding. The metal-metal-bonded molecule [Bu4N][(HL)2Fe6(dmf)2] (Fe6) was previously shown to possess a thermally isolated spin S = 19/2 ground state and found to exhibit slow magnetization relaxation below a blocking temperature of ∼5 K [J. Am. Chem. Soc.2015, 137, 13949-13956]. Here, we present a comprehensive spectroscopic investigation of this unique single-molecule magnet (SMM), combining ultrawideband field-swept high-field electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) with frequency-domain Fourier-transform terahertz EPR to accurately quantify the spin Hamiltonian parameters of Fe6. Of particular importance is the near absence of a 4th-order axial zero-field splitting term, which is known to arise because of quantum mechanical mixing of spin states on account of the relatively weak spin-spin (superexchange) interactions in traditional polynuclear SMMs such as the celebrated Mn12-acetate. The combined high-resolution measurements on both powder samples and an oriented single crystal provide a quantitative measure of the isolated nature of the spin ground state in the Fe6 molecule, as well as additional microscopic insights into factors that govern the quantum tunneling of its magnetization. To balance the sensitivity, specificity, and test availability, here, we developed enhanced colorimetry, which is termed as a magnetic pull-down-assisted colorimetric method based on the CRISPR/Cas12a system (M-CDC), for SARS-CoV-2 detection. By this method, SARS-CoV-2 RNA from synthetic sequences and cultured viruses can be detected by the naked eye based on gold nanoparticle (AuNP) probes, with a detection limit of 50 RNA copies per reaction. With CRISPR/Cas12a-assisted detection, SARS-CoV-2 can be specifically distinguished from other closely related viruses. M-CDC was further used to analyze 41 clinical samples, whose performance was 95.12%, consistent with that of an approved Clinical RT-qPCR Diagnosis kit. Fusions between components are made by continuous α-helices to limit flexibility. After a computational design, we tested 10 different protein cage constructions experimentally, two of which formed larger assemblies. One produced the intended octahedral cage, ∼26 nm in diameter, while the other appeared to produce the intended tetrahedral cage as a minor component, crystallizing instead in an alternate form representing a collapsed structure of lower stoichiometry and symmetry. The burden of adolescent depression is high in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), yet research into prevention is lacking. Development and validation of models to predict individualized risk of depression among adolescents in LMICs is rare but crucial to ensure appropriate targeting of preventive interventions. We assessed the ability of a model developed in Brazil, a middle-income country, to predict depression in an existing culturally different adolescent cohort from Nepal, a low-income country with a large youth population with high rates of depression. Data were utilized from the longitudinal study of 258 former child soldiers matched with 258 war-affected civilian adolescents in Nepal. Prediction modelling techniques were employed to predict individualized risk of depression at age 18 or older in the Nepali cohort using a penalized logistic regression model. Following a priori exclusions for prior depression and age, 55 child soldiers and 71 war-affected civilians were included in the final analysis. The model was well calibrated, had good overall performance, and achieved good discrimination between depressed and non-depressed individuals with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.73 (bootstrap-corrected 95% confidence interval 0.62-0.83). The Brazilian model comprising seven matching sociodemographic predictors, was able to stratify individualized risk of depression in a Nepali adolescent cohort. Further testing of the model's performance in larger socio-culturally diverse samples in other geographical regions should be attempted to test the model's wider generalizability.In the original article, incorrect Table 1 was published. Compared to their male peers, female adolescents are more likely to experience OSH and find it upsetting. This study sought to explore the role of resilience in explaining the association between online sexual harassment (OSH) and negative mood (i.e., depression and anxiety symptoms) among female adolescents. Using data from a panel sample of 477 female Croatian adolescents (age at baseline = 15.8 years; SD = 0.48) and two-wave cross-lagged path analysis, we investigated OSH, changes in depression/anxiety symptoms, association between OSH and negative mood, and the role of resilience. During the 26-month period under observation, OSH and negative mood were associated cross-sectionally, but not longitudinally. This suggests the negative mood effects of OSH exposure may be short-lived or that factors other than OSH explain changes in negative mood over time. Adult male MetS **** were randomized to receive vehicle solvent or tadalafil (1 mg/kg,i.p.) daily for 28 days and C57BL/6NCrl **** served as healthy wild-type controls. After 28 days, cardiac function was assessed by echocardiography and hearts from a subset of **** were isolated and subjected to 30 min of global ischemia followed by 60 min of reperfusion (I/R) in ex vivo Langendorff mode. Body weight, blood lipids, and glucose levels were elevated in MetS **** as compared with wild-type controls. The dyslipidemia in MetS was ameliorated following tadalafil treatment. Although left ventricular (LV) systolic function was minimally altered in the MetS ****, there was a significant diastolic dysfunction as indicated by reduction in the ratio of peak velocity of early to late filling of the mitral inflow, which was significantly improved by tadalafil treatment. Post-ischemic cardiac function, heart rate, and coronary flow decreased significantly in MetS **** compared to wild-type controls, but preserved by tadalafil treatment. Myocardial infarct size was significantly smaller following I/R, which was associated with higher plasma levels of nitrate and nitrite in the tadalafil-treated MetS ****.
