    A total of 1484 patients were identified among whom 40.4% midfacial and 33.4% mandibular fractures were diagnosed. Overall, specificity was found to be higher than sensitivity. Regarding midfacial fractures, high specificity was found for raccoon eyes, malar eminence flattening and all the findings that are related to palpation, the nasal, ocular and intra-oral assessment. Malar eminence flattening, external nasal deformity, nasal septum hematoma, change of globe position and palpable step-off had ad high positive predictive value and positive likelihood ratio. The time taken to report was measured against the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and Trauma Audit Research Network (TARN) guidelines.

    The overall discrepancy rates for the collaborative were 2.5% for minor discrepancies and 2% for major discrepancies, which is within the RCR standard. The median time taken to issue a report was 30 min, which is within the NICE and TARN 1-h targets.

After receiving relevant training, these volunteers become members of an approved association and can enter compounds such as Fresnes penitentiary hospital in Val-de-Marne. While the missions of these volunteers have been disrupted by covid-19, solutions have been put in place to allow the connection with the prisoners to be maintained.

Methods Sixty-six patients were evaluated with MRI and DTI before and after GKR. The apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and fractional anisotropy (FA) were measured from the bilateral lateral lemniscus (LL), inferior colliculus (IC), medial geniculate body (MGB), and Heschl's gyrus (HG). Results There was no significant difference in ADC and FA values obtained from bilateral LL, IC, and MGB before and after radiosurgery. However, there was a significant difference between pretreatment and post-radiosurgery contralateral HG ADC values. The ADC values obtained from the contralateral HG and IC positively correlated with the duration after radiosurgery. As the duration after radiosurgery increases, the difference between the ADC values obtained from ipsilateral and contralateral HG also increases. Conclusion The high ADC values in the contralateral HG after radiosurgery may indicate microstructural alterations such as demyelination and axonal loss. Methods Sixty-six patients were evaluated with MRI and DTI before and after GKR. The apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and fractional anisotropy (FA) were measured from the bilateral lateral lemniscus (LL), inferior colliculus (IC), medial geniculate body (MGB), and Heschl's gyrus (HG). Results There was no significant difference in ADC and FA values obtained from bilateral LL, IC, and MGB before and after radiosurgery. However, there was a significant difference between pretreatment and post-radiosurgery contralateral HG ADC values. The ADC values obtained from the contralateral HG and IC positively correlated with the duration after radiosurgery. As the duration after radiosurgery increases, the difference between the ADC values obtained from ipsilateral and contralateral HG also increases. Conclusion The high ADC values in the contralateral HG after radiosurgery may indicate microstructural alterations such as demyelination and axonal loss. We evaluated predictors of early discontinuation (EDChemo) and dose reduction of chemotherapy, especially the role of adverse treatment effects, in stage III patients who received adjuvant chemotherapy.

    Stage III colon cancer patients who were diagnosed in 2003-2014 and recruited into a population-based study in Germany and received FOLFOX [5-fluorouracil (5-FU), leucovorin (LV), and oxaliplatin], capecitabine monotherapy (CapMono), or 5-FU/LV were included. We assessed determinants of EDChemo and dose reduction using multivariable logistic regression. Also, we estimated proportions of EDChemo and dose reduction that are attributable to adverse effects using attributable fractions.

    EDChemo and dose reduction rates were 52% and 17% for FOLFOX, 28% and 9% for CapMono, and 45% and 6% for 5-FU/LV, respectively. Predictors of EDChemo were low-grade tumor and intestinal events.
    EDChemo is common in stage III colon cancer patients receiving chemotherapy and more than half of the cases of EDChemo and dose reduction are due to adverse treatment effects. Further research should address the potential for reducing EDChemo and dose reduction rates by close monitoring of patients for early signs and enhanced management of adverse effects, especially gastrointestinal events.

Analysis of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) was developed as a non-invasive, cost-effective alternative to tumor biopsy when such biopsy is not technically feasible or it is associated with high risk for complications. The role of ctDNA in precision oncology is promising but its clinical significance across tumor types remains to be validated. We report a case series of three heavily pretreated patients with advanced solid tumors who received matched targeted therapy based on ctDNA analysis and/or tumor molecular profiling.

  • Empirical limits of detection (LOD) for CWA simulants on the benchtop MS ranged from 100 ppt to 750 ppb and were highly dependant on solid matrix composition, with the portable system yielding similar spectral data from alike matrices, albeit with lower sensitivity.Multiple analytical techniques were used to characterize materials from the surfaces of two African sculptures in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago a Bamana power object (boli), and a Yoruba wooden sculpture of a female figure. Surface accretions on objects such as these have received relatively little scientific attention to elucidate their composition and function, in part because they are made with complex mixtures of natural materials, which are often unfamiliar and poorly represented in the scientific literature on artists' materials. For this reason, a complement of techniques including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and pyrolysis gas chromatography mass spectrometry were applied, along with shotgun proteomics to better understand the nature and biological origin, down to the species level, of the proteinaceous materials. The results highlighted the presence of diverse materials including plant resins, oils, polysaccharides, and inorganic (clay or earth) compounds. In particular, mass spectrometry-based proteomics provided new insights on proteinaceous components, allowing us to identify the presence of sacrificial blood, and more specifically, blood from chicken, goat, sheep and dog.     Anecdotal cases of the so-called "wrap-around" appearance in non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) of the spine exist in the medical literature. In this paper, we looked at the prevalence of this imaging feature in our institutional cases.

Our inclusion criteria were the histologically confirmed diagnosis of NHL involving any vertebra, available magnetic resonance imaging of the affected site, and a positive wrap-around sign. We subdivided the cases into 3 groups 1) lymphoma wrapped around the vertebral body; 2) the posterior elements alone; or 3) both the vertebral body and posterior elements.

    Our search identified 147 cases of NHL in which a confirmatory biopsy at the primary tumor site was available. Of those, 23 cases fulfilled the inclusion criteria (16 men and 7 women with average age at diagnosis of 63.3 years), yielding prevalence of 15.6% in our series. Most commonly the lymphoma involved the vertebral body with or without some involvement of the posterior vertebral elements (n= 20, 86.9%), followed by posterior vertebral elements (n= 2, 8.7%). One remaining case (4.4%) had lymphoma involving the anterior vertebral body and posterior elements.

    Findings of our pilot study indicated that the wrap-around sign in cases of NHL could be helpful diagnostically. This sign may be frequently under-recognized, leading to potential for a diagnostic dilemma on imaging.     The finite element method was used to investigate the biomechanical adjustments of adjacent and fixed segments after lumbar fusion and fixation with traditional trajectory (TT) and cortical bone trajectory (CBT) screws.

    The model used was a validated nonlinearly L3-S1 finite element model. Interbody fusion cages and 2 types of screws were used to work on the L4-L5. To simulate flexion, extension, lateral bending, and axial rotation, all models were loaded in 3 planes with a compressive pre-load of 400 N and a bending moment of 7.5 N/m. Under various loading conditions, the range of motion (ROM), peak Von Mises stress of the vertebral body, stress of the intervertebral disc, stress of the facet joints, stress of the endplate, and stress of internal fixation were compared.

    In all instrumentation models, the ROM at fixed segments decreased. At adjacent segments, the ROM of the CBT model was greater than that of the TT model. The CBT model had a greater peak Von Mises stress of the L4 and L5 vertebral bodies, as well as greater stress of internal fixation, than the TT model. Furthermore, as compared with the TT model, the CBT model's facet joint and endplate stress were lower at fixed segments but higher at adjacent segments. The stress on the L3-L4 and L5-S1 intervertebral discs in the CBT and TT models, on the other hand, was nearly equivalent.

    Volumetric analysis of tumor size and enhancement patterns of vestibular schwannomas were measured on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans obtained within 3 days of surgery, 3 months after surgery, and 1 year after surgery.

    Nineteen patients were eligible for inclusion in the study (9 male and 10 female) with an average age of 47 years. Contrast enhancement was absent in 6 of 19 (32%) of cases on the immediate postresection MRI with return of expected enhancement on subsequent studies. The present study aimed to assess the potential of microRNAs (miRNAs/miRs) in serum extracellular vesicles (EVs) as a biomarker of NAFLD. C57BL/6J **** were fed either a 12‑week high‑fat diet (HFD) or standard chow to establish NAFLD and control groups, respectively. Serum samples were obtained from the mouse model of NAFLD, as well as 50 patients with NAFLD and 50 healthy individuals, and EVs were extracted and verified. Using reverse transcription‑quantitative PCR, the mRNA expression level of selected miRNAs in the serum and EVs was analyzed. In order to determine the diagnostic value, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used. Serum samples were obtained from the mouse model of NAFLD, as well as 50 patients with NAFLD and 50 healthy individuals, and EVs were extracted and verified. Using reverse transcription‑quantitative PCR, the mRNA expression level of selected miRNAs in the serum and EVs was analyzed. In order to determine the diagnostic value, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used. Computed tomography (CT) scans were assessed using ImageJ to differentiate between the visceral and subcutaneous fat areas (VFA and SFA), after which the relative VFA (rVFA) and total fat area (TFA) were computed. The relationships between these fat area-related variables, patient age, sex, and BMI, and ccRCC T stage were then evaluated through univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis to clarify the association between general or sex-specific abdominal visceral fat and T stage. Following adjustment for age, males with high T stage ccRCC exhibited an increased rVFA as compared to males with low T stage ccRCC, with the same relationship being observed among females. This association between rVFA and high T stage was confirmed through both univariate and multivariate models.     In January 2019, our institution eliminated tiered clerkship grading (honors/pass/fail) for medical students during the core clerkship year and implemented pass/fail clerkship grading along with required twice weekly, work-based assessments for formative feedback.
    In this single institution, cross-sectional survey study, we collected data from fourth-year medical students one year after an assessment system intervention. The intervention entailed changing from honors/pass/fail toof clerkship grading and the mastery orientation of the learning environment. Our intervention did not improve perceptions around bias in assessment in clerkships. Other medical schools may consider similar interventions to begin to address student concerns with clerkship assessment and promote a more adaptive learning environment.
    To investigate the reliability and accuracy of Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Scores (ASPECTS) derived from flatpanel detector computed tomography pooled blood volume maps compared to non-contrast computed tomography and multidetector computed tomography perfusion cerebral blood volume maps.

    ASPECTS from pooled blood volume maps were evaluated retrospectively by two experienced readers for 37 consecutive patients with acute middle cerebral artery (MCA) M1 occlusion who underwent flatpanel detector computed tomography perfusion imaging before mechanical thrombectomy between November 2016 and February 2019. For comparison with ASPECTS from non-contrast computed tomography and cerebral blood volume maps, a matched-pair analysis according to pre-stroke modified Rankin scale, age, stroke severity, site of occlusion, time from stroke onset to imaging and final modified thrombolysis in cerebral infarction (mTICI) was performed in a separate group of patients who underwent multimodal computed tomore often for acute pooled blood volume ASPECTS (25% vs. 5%,

  • The biological activity of neohesperidin (NH, a flavanone glycoside) is limited due to instability in the physiological environment. Thus, the current study aimed to explore the protective effect of NH-loaded pectin-chitosan decorated liposomes (P-CH-NH-NL) against palmitic acid (PA)-induced hepatic oxidative injury in L02 cells. The particles were characterized using DLS, TEM, HPLC, DSC, and cellular uptake study. Then, the protective effect of NH-loaded liposomal systems (NH-NLs) against PA-induced oxidative injury was evaluated in terms of cell viability study, intracellular ROS, superoxide ions (O2-), MMP, and cellular GSH determination. Our results exhibited that NH-NLs significantly lessened the PA-induced hepatic oxidative injury in L02 cells via decreasing ROS and O2- generation, reducing MMP collapse, and attenuating GSH reduction, whereas the free NH samples were ineffective. Furthermore, the coated NH-NLs were more effective than that of uncoated nanoliposome. Overall, our study confirmed that P-CH-NH-NL was capable of reducing PA-induced hepatic oxidative injury. Therefore, the pectin-chitosan decorated nanoliposome can be considered as an efficient delivery system for enhancing cellular uptake of lipophilic compound with controlled release and greater biological activity.Microencapsulation is a potential biotechnological tool, which can overcome antimicrobial peptides (AMP) instabilities and reduce toxic side effects. The peptide exhibited potent antibiotic activities against Salmonella enteritidis, Salmonella typhimurium, Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MDR), Acinetobacter baumannii (MDR), and Staphylococcus aureus (MDR). Ctx(Ile21)-Ha microencapsulation was performed by ionic gelation with high efficiency, maintaining the physical-chemical stability. Ctx(Ile21)-Ha coated-microparticles were characterized by DSC, TGA, FTIR-Raman, XRD and SEM. Hemolytic activity assay demonstrated that hemolysis was decreased up to 95% compared to single molecule. The effects of different starch concentrations, reaction temperatures, and ethanol concentrations on the microstructure, crystal morphology, crystallinity and adsorption properties of VGS before and after enzymatic hydrolysis were studied, and native normal corn starch (NNCS) and A-type porous starch (APS) prepared by enzymatic hydrolysis of NNCS were used as controls. The results showed that compared with NNCS, VGS was easier to hydrolyze with a higher hydrolysis degree and the corresponding V-type porous starch (VPS) had more and larger pores and thus showed better adsorption performance than APS. These data may finally find applications in the development of promising inhibitors against amyloid fibril formation and treatment of Alzheimer's disease.In this paper, a novel porous starch with a V-type crystalline structure and high adsorption capacity was obtained by enzymatic hydrolysis of V-type granular starch (VGS) in an aqueous ethanol solution. The effects of different starch concentrations, reaction temperatures, and ethanol concentrations on the microstructure, crystal morphology, crystallinity and adsorption properties of VGS before and after enzymatic hydrolysis were studied, and native normal corn starch (NNCS) and A-type porous starch (APS) prepared by enzymatic hydrolysis of NNCS were used as controls. The results showed that compared with NNCS, VGS was easier to hydrolyze with a higher hydrolysis degree and the corresponding V-type porous starch (VPS) had more and larger pores and thus showed better adsorption performance than APS. Under the same enzymatic hydrolysis time, temperature and rotation speed, VPS prepared with a starch concentration of 20%, reaction temperature of 140 °C and ethanol concentration of 70% showed an irregular spongelike porous structure, highest V-type relative crystallinity of 25.09%, highest oil adsorption capacity of 241.70% and water adsorption capacity of 805.59%.Members of DOMAIN OF UNKNOWN FUNCTION 679 membrane protein (DMP) gene family, a type of plant-specific membrane proteins, have been proposed to function in various physiological processes such as reproductive development and senescence in plants. Here, a total of 174 DMP genes were identified and analyzed in 16 plant species (including 58 DMPs in four cotton species). Phylogenetic analysis showed that these DMPs could be clustered into five subfamilies (I-V). 137 duplicated cotton gene pairs were identified and most duplicate events were formed by whole-genome duplication (WGD)/segmental duplications. Expression analysis revealed that most of cotton DMPs were mainly expressed in the reproductive organs (the sepal, petal, pistil and anther) and the fiber of secondary cell wall stage.
