    Strengthening quality of care without compromising nurse job outcomes by building a safer health care system is a common concern worldwide including in China. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is a mindfulness-based behavioural therapy for managing health outcomes and inducing health-related behaviour changes. However, the components and modality of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and its effectiveness on health outcomes for patients with advanced cancer remain unclear.

    This review aimed to identify the main content, delivery mode, dosage and duration of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and to systematically summarise evidence regarding its application in patients with advanced cancer for improving physical and psychological outcomes and health-related quality of life.

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation allows the treatment of aortic stenosis by implanting an aortic bioprosthesis through a catheter, without surgery. Until safe and efficacious vaccines or antiviral drugs become widely available, viral testing remains the primary mitigation measure for rapid identification and isolation of infected individuals. We aimed to assess the economic trade-offs of expanding and accelerating testing for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) across the USA in different transmission scenarios.

    We used a multiscale model that incorporates SARS-CoV-2 transmission at the population level and daily viral load dynamics at the individual level to assess eight surveillance testing strategies that varied by testing frequency (from daily to monthly testing) and isolation period (1 or 2 weeks), compared with the status-quo strategy of symptom-based testing and isolation. For each testing strategy, we first estimated the costs (incorporating costs of diagnostesting followed by a 2-week isolation period subsequent to a positive test result. Under low transmission scenarios (R
    of 1·2), monthly testing of the population followed by 1-week isolation rather than 2-week isolation is likely to be most cost-effective. Expanded surveillance testing is more likely to be cost-effective than the status-quo testing strategy if the price per test is less than $75 across all transmission rates considered.

Intravenous and tablet formulations of posaconazole that have improved systemic absorption could be an effective alternative to voriconazole. We aimed to assess non-inferiority of posaconazole to voriconazole for the primary treatment of invasive aspergillosis.

  • Hospital discharge has a significant impact on the continuity of care for people living with dementia. Clear guidance on medication management should be provided to caregivers of people living with dementia to ensure appropriate use of medications post-discharge.

    Identify and appraise the impact of interventions at hospital discharge to guide caregivers in the medication management for people living with dementia.

    A systematic search of original studies was performed in Medline, Embase, PsycINFO, and CINAHL. Articles published in English that reported on interventions to guide caregivers in medication management for people living with dementia were included. Two authors independently reviewed titles and abstract. Full-text articles were assessed for eligibility and quality assessment was conducted by two authors.

    A total of five studies were included with a range of interventions that were typically delivered post-discharge by a multidisciplinary team and most targeted administration of medications byivers in all aspects of medication management for people living with dementia, and should include support for caregivers in care coordination.

Ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) being approved for clinical use (e.g., in cholestasis), we have evaluated the ocular bioavailability of oral UDCA, administered to patients before RD surgery. The level of UDCA in ocular media correlated with the extent of blood retinal barrier disruption, evaluated by the extent of detachment and the albumin concentration in subretinal fluid. UDCA, at levels measured in ocular media, protected photoreceptors from apoptosis and necrosis in rat retinal explants, an ex vivo model of RD. The subretinal fluid from UDCA-treated patients, collected during surgery, significantly protected rat retinal explants from cell death, when compared to subretinal fluid from control patients. Pan-transcriptomic analysis of the retina showed that UDCA upregulated anti-apoptotic, anti-oxidant, and anti-inflammatory genes.     Our objective was to assess the utility of using lesion-mapping software to calculate precise orbital volumes to predict patients who would benefit from early surgical intervention.

    We retrospectively reviewed patients diagnosed with subperiosteal orbital abscess (SPOA) secondary to sinusitis at a tertiary pediatric hospital from 2005 to 2016. Diagnoses were confirmed by CT scans. Lesion-mapping software was used to measure SPOA volume using initial CT images. Data collected included patient demographics, length of hospital stay, and subsequent medical or surgical treatment.

    Thirty-three (52%) patients ultimately underwent surgical intervention, while 30 (48%) were managed medically. Between the surgical and medical groups, there were no differences in gender, age, or comorbidities. The surgical group had larger abscess volumes than the medically managed group (0.94mL vs. 0.31mL, p < 0.01). Overall, increased SPOA volume was associated with increased age (Pearson's coefficient = 0.374, p ≤ 0.01) and increased total days of intravenous (IV) antibiotic administration (Pearson's coefficient = 0.260, p = 0.039).     who had undergone bariatric surgery were identified from the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD), matched 51 to controls. Cox regression analysis was used to determine the risk of developing de novo depression. Kaplan-Meier analysis compared the proportion of patients with no further consultations related to depression between the two groups.

    In total, 3534 patients who underwent surgery, of which 2018 (57%) had pre-existing depression, were matched to 15,480 controls. Cox proportional hazard modelling demonstrated surgery was associated with a HR of 1.50 (95% CI 1.32-1.71, p < 0.005) for developing de novo depression. For those with pre-existing depression, by 5years, just over 20% of post-surgical patients had no further depression episodes compared with 17% of controls.
    Hospital discharge has a significant impact on the continuity of care for people living with dementia. Clear guidance on medication management should be provided to caregivers of people living with dementia to ensure appropriate use of medications post-discharge. Identify and appraise the impact of interventions at hospital discharge to guide caregivers in the medication management for people living with dementia. A systematic search of original studies was performed in Medline, Embase, PsycINFO, and CINAHL. Articles published in English that reported on interventions to guide caregivers in medication management for people living with dementia were included. Two authors independently reviewed titles and abstract. Full-text articles were assessed for eligibility and quality assessment was conducted by two authors. A total of five studies were included with a range of interventions that were typically delivered post-discharge by a multidisciplinary team and most targeted administration of medications byivers in all aspects of medication management for people living with dementia, and should include support for caregivers in care coordination. Current findings suggest there is a need for well-designed interventions to guide caregivers in all aspects of medication management for people living with dementia, and should include support for caregivers in care coordination.Human-centered design (HCD), an empathy-driven approach to innovation that focuses on user needs, offers promise for the rapid design of health care interventions that are acceptable to patients, clinicians, and other stakeholders. Reviews of HCD in healthcare, however, note a need for greater rigor, suggesting an opportunity for integration of elements from traditional research and HCD. A strategy that combines HCD principles with evidence-grounded health services research (HSR) methods has the potential to strengthen the innovation process and outcomes. In this paper, we review the strengths and limitations of HCD and HSR methods for intervention design, and propose a novel Approach to Human-centered, Evidence-driven Adaptive Design (AHEAD) framework. AHEAD offers a practical guide for the design of creative, evidence-based, pragmatic solutions to modern healthcare challenges.Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RD) is a threatening visual condition and a human disease model for retinal degenerations. Despite successful reattachment surgery, vision does not fully recover, due to subretinal fluid accumulation and subsequent photoreceptor cell death, through mechanisms that recapitulate those of retinal degenerative diseases. Hydrophilic bile acids are neuroprotective in animal models, but whether they can be used orally for retinal diseases is unknown. Ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) being approved for clinical use (e.g., in cholestasis), we have evaluated the ocular bioavailability of oral UDCA, administered to patients before RD surgery. The level of UDCA in ocular media correlated with the extent of blood retinal barrier disruption, evaluated by the extent of detachment and the albumin concentration in subretinal fluid. UDCA, at levels measured in ocular media, protected photoreceptors from apoptosis and necrosis in rat retinal explants, an ex vivo model of RD. The subretinal fluid from UDCA-treated patients, collected during surgery, significantly protected rat retinal explants from cell death, when compared to subretinal fluid from control patients. Pan-transcriptomic analysis of the retina showed that UDCA upregulated anti-apoptotic, anti-oxidant, and anti-inflammatory genes.   • Objective. Muscle quality has received considerable attention within the literature due to its influence on health and performance. However, it has been assessed by various measures (e.g. ultrasound imaging, normalized strength), contributing to a lack of a consensus definition. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association between common muscle quality measures vastus lateralis echo intensity (EI) and peak torque (PT) and power (PP) normalized to thigh lean mass (TLM) and thigh fat mass (TFM).Approach. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/WP1130.html Participants' (n = 39; age = 32.7 ± 8.2 years; %BF = 24.1% ±8.1%) whole body and leg composition was assessed via dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry and custom thigh analyses. Maximal PT and PP of the dominant leg extensors were examined on a calibrated dynamometer and were normalized to both TLM and TFM, respectively. Pearson product-moment correlations were used to examine the associations between EI and PT/TLM, PT/TFM, PP/TLM, and PP/TFM.Main results. Greater muscle EI was significantly related with lower PT/TFM and PP/TFM (r = -0.74 to -0.70,P less then 0.001), but unrelated to PT/TLM or PP/TLM (P ≥ 0.205).Significance. CE decreased with age, and the CE of the younger group (23.5 ± 1.9%) was larger than that of the older group (21.5 ± 1.9%),P less then 0.01. The IWI increased with age, and the IWI of the younger group (19.0 ± 3.8 J l-1m-2) was smaller than that of the older group (24.8 ± 4.3 J l-1m-2),P less then 0.01. There were no significant difference in CE (22.4 ± 2.2% and 22.6 ± 2.2%) or in the IWI (21.9 ± 5.1 J l-1m-2and 22.6 ± 5.2 J l-1m-2) between the male and female groups.     Middle meningeal artery (MMA) embolization is a promising treatment strategy for chronic subdural hematomas (cSDHs). However, studies comparing MMA embolization and conventional therapy (surgical intervention and conservative management) are limited. The authors aimed to compare MMA embolization versus conventional therapy for cSDHs using a propensity-adjusted analysis.

    A retrospective study of all patients with cSDH who presented to a large tertiary center over a 2-year period was performed. MMA embolization was compared with surgical intervention and conservative management. Neurological outcome was assessed using the modified Rankin Scale (mRS). A propensity-adjusted analysis compared MMA embolization versus surgery and conservative management for all individual cSDHs. Primary outcomes included change in hematoma diameter, treatment failure, and complete resolution at last follow-up.

    A total of 231 patients with cSDH met the inclusion criteria. Of these, 35 (15%) were treated using MMA embolization, a greater extent of hematoma volume reduction with fewer treatment failures than conventional therapy.

    Endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) and tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) are effective ischemic stroke treatments in the initial treatment window. In the extended treatment window, these treatments may offer benefit, but CT and MR perfusion may be necessary to determine patient eligibility. Many hospitals do not have access to advanced imaging tools or EVT capability, and further patient care would require transfer to a facility with these capabilities. To assist transfer decisions, the authors developed risk indices that could identify patients eligible for extended-window EVT or tPA.

    The authors retrospectively identified stroke patients who had concurrent CTA and perfusion and evaluated three potential outcomes that would suggest a benefit from patient transfer. The first outcome was large-vessel occlusion (LVO) and target mismatch (TM) in patients 5-23 hours from last known normal (LKN). The second outcome was TM in patients 5-15 hours from LKN with known LVO. The third outcome was TM in patients 4.5-12in patients with confirmed LVO or a less stringent tissue mismatch (TM < 1.2) cutoff. Larger patient registries should be used to validate and improve the predictive ability of these models.

  • The aim of this review was to compare clinical and radiological outcome of acromio-clavicular joint reconstruction with allografts versus autografts.

    The PubMed, MEDLINE, The Cochrane Library and WEB OF SCIENCE databases were searched in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines until February 2020 using the terms 'coracoclavicular' OR 'coraco-clavicular' OR 'acromioclavicular' OR 'acromio-clavicular joint', AND 'reconstruction'. All studies reporting on clinical and radiological outcome as well as complications after ACJ reconstruction using allo- and/or autografts were included.

    A total of 29 articles, including 2 prospective and 27 retrospective studies, involving 622 patients, reconstructed with either allo- (n = 360) or auto-grafts (n = 262), for acromio-clavicular joint instability were identified and included in this review. The majority of studies had low sample sizes (66.7% below n = 20), were retrospective (93.3%), with short-term follow-ups (average 26.2 ± 12.6months; range 6-186). The study withtilizing additional horizontal stabilization may contribute to lower rates of LOR. In cases where allograft tissue is used for ACJ reconstruction the use of suture/tape augmentation may reduce LOR rates as well as revision rates.

    Unilateral coronal synostosis (UCS) results in an asymmetrical skull, including shallow and asymmetrical orbits, associated with reduced orbital volume and high prevalences of ophthalmic sequelae. Aim is to link orbital volumes in patients with UCS to severity according to UCSQ (Utrecht Cranial Shape Quantifier) and presence of ophthalmic sequelae.

    We included preoperative patients with UCS (≤ 18 months). Orbital volume was measured on CT scans by manual segmentation (Mimics software (Materialise, Leuven, Belgium)), and severity of UCS was determined by UCSQ. Orbital volume of affected side was compared to unaffected side using Wilcoxon signed rank test. Orbital volume ratio was calculated (affected/unaffected volume) and compared to the category of UCSQ by Kruskal-Wallis test. Opthalmic sequelae were noted.

    We included 19 patients (mean age 7 months). Orbital volume on affected side was significantly lower (p = 0.001), mean orbital volume ratio was 0.93 (SD 0.03). No significant differences in group means of orbital volume ratio between different levels of severity of UCSQ were found (Kruskal-Wallis H (2) = 0.873; p > 0.05). Ophthalmic sequelae were found in 3 patients; one had adduction impairment and strabismus (mild UCS), one had astigmatism (moderate UCS), and one had abduction impairment (on both ipsi- and contralateral side) and vertical strabismus (severe UCS).

The authors report a case of an encephalocele containing heterotopic cerebellar tissue arising from the right middle cerebellar peduncle and filling the right internal acoustic canal in a 2-year-old female patient. Her initial presentation included a focal left 6th nerve palsy. Magnetic resonance imaging was suggestive of a high-grade tumor of the right CPA. The lesion was removed via a retrosigmoid approach, and histopathologic analysis revealed heterotopic atrophic cerebellar tissue. We report two cases of NF1 patients with asymptomatic olfactory bulbs (OBs) enlargement depicted with Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). To the best of our knowledge, this finding has not been reported in the scientific literature so far. We hypothesize that olfactory bulbs enlargement may have a pathogenetic nature like that of the UBOs as in one of our patients there was spontaneous regression during follow-up. The olfactory bulbs enlargement expands the broad neuroradiological spectrum of finding of NF1.     The aim of this review was to compare clinical and radiological outcome of acromio-clavicular joint reconstruction with allografts versus autografts. The PubMed, MEDLINE, The Cochrane Library and WEB OF SCIENCE databases were searched in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines until February 2020 using the terms 'coracoclavicular' OR 'coraco-clavicular' OR 'acromioclavicular' OR 'acromio-clavicular joint', AND 'reconstruction'. All studies reporting on clinical and radiological outcome as well as complications after ACJ reconstruction using allo- and/or autografts were included. A total of 29 articles, including 2 prospective and 27 retrospective studies, involving 622 patients, reconstructed with either allo- (n = 360) or auto-grafts (n = 262), for acromio-clavicular joint instability were identified and included in this review. The majority of studies had low sample sizes (66.7% below n = 20), were retrospective (93.3%), with short-term follow-ups (average 26.2 ± 12.6months; range 6-186). The study withtilizing additional horizontal stabilization may contribute to lower rates of LOR. In cases where allograft tissue is used for ACJ reconstruction the use of suture/tape augmentation may reduce LOR rates as well as revision rates. III. III. Unilateral coronal synostosis (UCS) results in an asymmetrical skull, including shallow and asymmetrical orbits, associated with reduced orbital volume and high prevalences of ophthalmic sequelae. Aim is to link orbital volumes in patients with UCS to severity according to UCSQ (Utrecht Cranial Shape Quantifier) and presence of ophthalmic sequelae. We included preoperative patients with UCS (≤ 18 months). Orbital volume was measured on CT scans by manual segmentation (Mimics software (Materialise, Leuven, Belgium)), and severity of UCS was determined by UCSQ. Orbital volume of affected side was compared to unaffected side using Wilcoxon signed rank test. Orbital volume ratio was calculated (affected/unaffected volume) and compared to the category of UCSQ by Kruskal-Wallis test. Opthalmic sequelae were noted. We included 19 patients (mean age 7 months). Orbital volume on affected side was significantly lower (p = 0.001), mean orbital volume ratio was 0.93 (SD 0.03). No significant differences in group means of orbital volume ratio between different levels of severity of UCSQ were found (Kruskal-Wallis H (2) = 0.873; p > 0.05). Ophthalmic sequelae were found in 3 patients; one had adduction impairment and strabismus (mild UCS), one had astigmatism (moderate UCS), and one had abduction impairment (on both ipsi- and contralateral side) and vertical strabismus (severe UCS). No association between orbital volume ratio and severity of UCS was found. Side-to-side asymmetry in orbital volume was noted. No association between either preoperative orbital volume ratio or severity of UCS and the presence of preoperative ophthalmic sequelae was found. We report two cases of NF1 patients with asymptomatic olfactory bulbs (OBs) enlargement depicted with Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). To the best of our knowledge, this finding has not been reported in the scientific literature so far. We hypothesize that olfactory bulbs enlargement may have a pathogenetic nature like that of the UBOs as in one of our patients there was spontaneous regression during follow-up. The olfactory bulbs enlargement expands the broad neuroradiological spectrum of finding of NF1.   • Hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) hydrogenation has recently emerged as an indispensable method for the chemoselective reduction of unactivated alkenes. However, the hitherto reported systems basically require stoichiometric amounts of silanes and peroxides, which prevents wider applications, especially with respect to sustainability and safety concerns. Herein, we report a silane- and peroxide-free HAT hydrogenation using a combined cobalt/photoredox catalysis and ascorbic acid (vitamin C) as a sole stoichiometric reactant. A cobalt salophen complex is identified as the optimal cocatalyst for this environmentally benign HAT hydrogenation in aqueous media, which exhibits high functional-group tolerance. In addition to its applicability in the late-stage hydrogenation of amino-acid derivatives and drug molecules, this method offers unique advantage in direct transformation of unprotected sugar derivatives and allows the HAT hydrogenation of unprotected C-glycoside in higher yield compared to previously reported HAT hydrogenation protocols. The proposed mechanism is supported by experimental and theoretical studies.Accurate predictions of RNA secondary structures can help uncover the roles of functional non-coding RNAs. Although machine learning-based models have achieved high performance in terms of prediction accuracy, overfitting is a common risk for such highly parameterized models. Here we show that overfitting can be minimized when RNA folding scores learnt using a deep neural network are integrated together with Turner's nearest-neighbor free energy parameters. Training the model with thermodynamic regularization ensures that folding scores and the calculated free energy are as close as possible. In computational experiments designed for newly discovered non-coding RNAs, our algorithm (MXfold2) achieves the most robust and accurate predictions of RNA secondary structures without sacrificing computational efficiency compared to several other algorithms. The results suggest that integrating thermodynamic information could help improve the robustness of deep learning-based predictions of RNA secondary structure.The demand for biomaterials that promote the repair, replacement, or restoration of hard and soft tissues continues to grow as the population ages. Traditionally, smart biomaterials have been thought as those that respond to stimuli. However, the continuous evolution of the field warrants a fresh look at the concept of smartness of biomaterials. This review presents a redefinition of the term "Smart Biomaterial" and discusses recent advances in and applications of smart biomaterials for hard tissue restoration and regeneration. To clarify the use of the term "smart biomaterials", we propose four degrees of smartness according to the level of interaction of the biomaterials with the bio-environment and the biological/cellular responses they elicit, defining these materials as inert, active, responsive, and autonomous. Then, we present an up-to-date survey of applications of smart biomaterials for hard tissues, based on the materials' responses (external and internal stimuli) and their use as immune-modulatory biomaterials. Finally, we discuss the limitations and obstacles to the translation from basic research (bench) to clinical utilization that is required for the development of clinically relevant applications of these technologies.Betula L. (birch) is a pioneer hardwood tree species with ecological, economic, and evolutionary importance in the Northern Hemisphere. We sequenced the Betula platyphylla genome and assembled the sequences into 14 chromosomes. The Betula genome lacks evidence of recent whole-genome duplication and has the same paleoploidy level as Vitis vinifera and Prunus mume. Phylogenetic analysis of lignin pathway genes coupled with tissue-specific expression patterns provided clues for understanding the formation of higher ratios of syringyl to guaiacyl lignin observed in Betula species. Our transcriptome analysis of leaf tissues under a time-series cold stress experiment revealed the presence of the MEKK1-MKK2-MPK4 cascade and six additional mitogen-activated protein kinases that can be linked to a gene regulatory network involving many transcription factors and cold tolerance genes. Our genomic and transcriptome analyses provide insight into the structures, features, and evolution of the B. platyphylla genome. This study systematically reviews the effects of ATD on anxiety and assesses whether challenging anxiety modifies the response. PubMed, Embase and PsychInfo were systematically searched up to April 2019 for studies in which (1) healthy volunteers or patients with a (remitted) anxiety disorder underwent ATD and (2) levels of anxiety were reported. In total, 21 studies were included. Studies conducted in healthy volunteers (n = 13), and patients with a remitted (n = 6) or current (panic, social or generalised) anxiety disorder (n = 4). Studies were mostly of poor quality and heterogeneous regarding population, challenge test used and outcome measures. ATD did not consistently affect anxiety in any of the groups. Moreover, a challenge test after ATD (n = 17 studies) did not consistently provoke anxiety in healthy volunteers or remitted patients. A 35% CO2 challenge did consistently increase anxiety in patients with a current panic disorder (PD). To conclude, this systematic review found no clear indications that ATD provokes anxiety in those at risk for anxiety disorders. Hence, unlike in depression, ATD does not indicate vulnerability to develop an anxiety disorder. Because included studies were heterogeneous and mostly of poor quality, there is an urgent need for high quality research in homogeneous samples.

  • Angiogenesis is a vital process during the regeneration of bone tissue. The aim of this study was to investigate angiogenesis at the fracture site as well as at distal locations from obesity-induced type 2 diabetic **** that were treated with bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2, local administration at the time of surgery) to heal a femoral critical sized defect (CSD) or saline as a control. **** were fed a high fat diet (HFD) to induce a type 2 diabetic-like phenotype while low fat diet (LFD) animals served as controls. Endothelial cells (ECs) were isolated from the lungs (LECs) and bone marrow (BMECs) 3 weeks post-surgery, and the fractured femurs were also examined. Our studies demonstrate that local administration of BMP-2 at the fracture site in a CSD model results in complete bone healing within 3 weeks for all HFD **** and 66.7% of LFD ****, whereas those treated with saline remain unhealed. At the fracture site, vessel parameters and adipocyte numbers were significantly increased in BMP-2 treated femurs, irrespective of diet. At distal sites, LEC and BMEC proliferation was not altered by diet or BMP-2 treatment. HFD increased the tube formation ability of both LECs and BMECs. Interestingly, BMP-2 treatment at the time of surgery reduced tube formation in LECs and humeri BMECs. However, migration of BMECs from HFD **** treated with BMP-2 was increased compared to BMECs from HFD **** treated with saline. BMP-2 treatment significantly increased the expression of CD31, FLT-1, and ANGPT2 in LECs and BMECs in LFD ****, but reduced the expression of these same genes in HFD ****. To date, this is the first study that depicts the systemic influence of fracture surgery and local BMP-2 treatment on the proliferation and angiogenic potential of ECs derived from the bone marrow and lungs.Epigenetic modifications are important gene regulatory mechanisms conserved in plants, animals, and fungi. Chromatin reader domains are protein-protein/DNA interaction modules acting within the chromatin-modifying complex to function as molecular interpreters of the epigenetic code. Understanding how reader proteins recognize specific epigenetic modifications and mediate downstream chromatin and transcriptional events is fundamental to many biological processes. Recent studies have uncovered a number of novel reader proteins with diverse functions and mechanisms in plants. Here, we provide an overview of the recent progress on reader-mark recognition modes, the mechanisms by which reader proteins influence chromatin dynamics, and how reader-chromatin interactions regulate biological function. Because of space limitations, this review focuses on reader domains in plants that specifically bind histone methylation, histone acetylation, and DNA methylation.Nitroxide labels are combined with nucleic acid structures and are studied using electron paramagnetic resonance experiments (EPR). As X-ray/NMR structures are unavailable with the nitroxide labels, detailed residue level information, down to atomic resolution, about the effect of these nitroxide labels on local RNA structures is currently lacking. This information is critical to evaluate the choice of spin label. In this study, we compare and contrast the effect of TEMPO-based (NT) and rigid spin (Ç) labels (in both 2'-O methylated and not-methylated forms) on RNA duplexes. We also investigate sequence- dependent effects of NT label on RNA duplex along with the more complex G-quadruplex RNA. Distances measured from molecular dynamics simulations between the two spin labels are in agreement with the EPR experimental data. To understand the effect of labelled oligonucleotides on the structure, we studied the local base pair geometries and global structure in comparison with the unlabelled structures. Based on the structural analysis, we can conclude that TEMPO-based and Ç labels do not significantly perturb the base pair arrangements of the native oligonucleotide. When experimental structures for the spin labelled DNA/RNA molecules are not available, general framework offered by the current study can be used to provide information critical to the choice of spin labels to facilitate future EPR studies.In the light of shared genetic underpinnings of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, their comparative profile of social cognition (SC) performance - an intermittent phenotype and determinant of functional outcome - is poorly understood. Using data from 160 individuals, we identify unique patterns of composite and domain-specific SC-abilities between these groups after controlling for their neurocognition. Individuals with schizophrenia and not bipolar disorder demonstrated deficits in composite SC-measures, which were not associated with their functional status. While patients with bipolar disorder had significantly lower scores on emotion recognition, they outperformed the healthy and schizophrenia groups on the second-order theory of mind.

    Study objective is to examine the prevalence and covariates of postpartum depression among new mothers; and find the association between the indices of social support, partner support and attention shifting with experience of postpartum depression.

    A cross-sectional hospital-based study design was used. The sample for this study included 240 postnatal mothers from Pune urban areas selected randomly from three hospitals who attended postnatal check-ups or immunizations in the city. Postpartum depression was assessed using Marathi validated Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EPDS). Support from the respondents mother, mother-in law, husband, relatives was assessed for estimating Social Support Index. The husband's support was assessed for Partner Support Index; and shift of attention from mother to baby was for Attention Shift Index. Mothersg antenatal care could reduce the chances of depression during postpartum period. Considering its prevalence, depression should be addressed in national mental health programmes. More robust research is required for better understanding of the factors responsible for postpartum depression in urban India.

Chromatin reader domains are protein-protein/DNA interaction modules acting within the chromatin-modifying complex to function as molecular interpreters of the epigenetic code. Understanding how reader proteins recognize specific epigenetic modifications and mediate downstream chromatin and transcriptional events is fundamental to many biological processes. Recent studies have uncovered a number of novel reader proteins with diverse functions and mechanisms in plants. Here, we provide an overview of the recent progress on reader-mark recognition modes, the mechanisms by which reader proteins influence chromatin dynamics, and how reader-chromatin interactions regulate biological function.     Among the patients enrolled in the Tokyo/Tama REgistry of Acute endovascular Thrombectomy, fast progressor cerebral ischemia cases were retrospectively investigated. In this study, a fast progressor was defined as a case with an Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score less than 6 and last known well (LKW) to arterial puncture within 6 h. Patients' background characteristics, treatment progress, and the modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score at 3 months were examined.

    Of a total of 1182 patients, 92 (7.8%) were included, with 76 patients in the direct transfer (DT) group, and 16 patients in the IT group.     Freezing of gait (FOG) in Parkinson's disease (PD) is associated with an altered posture during quiet stance as well as an impaired preparation and execution of the gait initiation process. We aimed to investigate whether an altered initial posture impacts anticipatory postural adjustments (APAs) and first-step execution during gait initiation in people with PD with FOG (PD+FOG).

  • To evaluate the results of endovascular treatment of patients with ischemic stroke caused by acute tandem occlusion of the internal carotid and middle cerebral arteries (ICA and MCA).

    Endovascular intervention was performed in 8 patients with tandem occlusion of ICA and MCA. The neurological deficit on admission was 17.4±5.6 NIHSS points and the average ASPECTS score was 9.5±0.8. The time from the onset of neurological symptoms to reperfusion was 224±68 min.     In times when there is a growing interest in ready-to-eat food (RTEF), the presence of potentially pathogenic bacteria, including the toxigenic psychrotolerant bacilli from the B. cereus group, on this type of carrier may pose a real threat to the health of consumers. When coupled with a rising percentage of persons from risk groups (YOPI), including the elderly or immunocompromised, this may mean increased health risks posed by the so-called "novel pathogens", like the toxigenic psychrotolerant B. cereus sensu lato.

    Food samples were analyzed for the presence and count of putative B. cereus according to the Polish Standard PN-EN ISO 79322005. All genetic analyses were conducted using a qualitative real-time PCR.

    Owing to the scarcity of studies related to the use of soursop (Annona muricata L.) in the elaboration of craft beers, this study aimed to elaborate a soursop fruit beer using an artisanal method.

    To determine the most favorable moment for the inclusion of the fruit, the soursop pulp was added experimentally in three stages of the process during the boiling of the wort (C01); on the 3rd day of fermentation (C02); during carbonation, with the use of soursop extract (C03). These treatments were submitted to a preliminary sensory evaluation and C02 was considered the best beer with regards to taste, color, aroma, formation and persistence of the head and clarity. Thus, C02 was evaluated with regards to its physicochemical, microbiological and sensory characteristics.

    The soursop fruit beer had the following characteristics density of 1,012; pH 3.62; SSC 6.5oBrix, alcohol content 4.3 ABV; bitterness 39.3 IBU; and color 7.15 EBC. The centesimal analysis indicated the following amounts ash 0.2 g/100 g, lipids 0.02 g/100 g, proteins 0.14 g/100 g and, among minerals, Ca and Na predominated in the beverage. The attributes evaluated in the sensory analysis showed an acceptability index greater than 70%, and 74% of the tasters indicated that they would probably buy the beer.

    Omega fatty acids are a family of polyunsaturated fats associated with several health benefits. Lipases are enzymes with potential application in several food processes such as flavor and aroma, surfactants and formulations for the dairy and bakery industries. In this study, single cell oil and lipase production by Candida viswanathii CCR8137 were evaluated simultaneously from renewable carbon sources under nitrogen limitation.

    Enzyme and single cell oil were obtained in submerged cultivations supplemented with triolein, tributyrin, corn oil, sunflower oil, canola oil and olive oil. The effects of glucose on lipid accumulation, fatty acid profile, enzyme production and cell morphology were also evaluated.

    The highest lipid accumulation (44.5%, w/w) was obtained from triolein, whereas olive oil was the best inducer of lipase synthesis (26.8 U/mL). Nitrogen limiting cultivations were a key parameter for an organic source which showed higher lipid accumulation and enzyme production than the tested inorganic nitrogen source. Glucose was a poor inducer of lipase synthesis, though increased values of lipid accumulation were observed from this carbon source with a maximum of 63.1% (w/w). The fatty acid profile of lipids produced by C. viswanathii CCR8137 showed a high content of omega-9 fatty acid (C181 n-9). The addition of glucose to the culture media resulted in the synthesis of essential fatty acids vaccenic, linolenic and eicosadienoic acids.

Omega fatty acids are a family of polyunsaturated fats associated with several health benefits. Lipases are enzymes with potential application in several food processes such as flavor and aroma, surfactants and formulations for the dairy and bakery industries. In this study, single cell oil and lipase production by Candida viswanathii CCR8137 were evaluated simultaneously from renewable carbon sources under nitrogen limitation. Enzyme and single cell oil were obtained in submerged cultivations supplemented with triolein, tributyrin, corn oil, sunflower oil, canola oil and olive oil. The effects of glucose on lipid accumulation, fatty acid profile, enzyme production and cell morphology were also evaluated. The highest lipid accumulation (44.5%, w/w) was obtained from triolein, whereas olive oil was the best inducer of lipase synthesis (26.8 U/mL). Nitrogen limiting cultivations were a key parameter for an organic source which showed higher lipid accumulation and enzyme production than the tested inorganic nitrogen source. Glucose was a poor inducer of lipase synthesis, though increased values of lipid accumulation were observed from this carbon source with a maximum of 63.1% (w/w). The fatty acid profile of lipids produced by C. viswanathii CCR8137 showed a high content of omega-9 fatty acid (C181 n-9). The addition of glucose to the culture media resulted in the synthesis of essential fatty acids vaccenic, linolenic and eicosadienoic acids. Therefore, C. viswanathii CCR8137 strain can be considered as an oleaginous yeast able to accumulate high concentrations of intracellular lipids, which are potential additives for food industry applications as well as being able to simultaneously synthesize high yields of lipase.
