Structural equation modelling using MLR estimator was employed based on the two-step procedure to validate both the full measurement models and the structural models. Five models were tested to determine predictability of all stigma constructs for psychological distress, including stress, anxiety, and depression, through the mediation of body image.     This study aimed to investigate the variability by ethnicity, socio-economic status and location in coverage and testability of the universal B4 School Check vision screening in children aged 4-5 years in New Zealand.

    Aggregated data from 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2015 were sourced from the Statistics New Zealand Integrated Data Infrastructure. Sourced data were attendance at vision screening and record of visual acuity measurement stratified by ethnicity, socio-economic status and region. Children who attended screening were compared with the eligible population (n=252 279) to calculate coverage. Testability was determined by comparing the children with a recorded visual acuity measurement in each eye with those who attended screening.

    Overall vision screening coverage was 89.5% and testability was 97.8%. Ethnic differences were evident for coverage (85.7% in Pacific children, 92.5% in European children) and testability (96.4% in Māori children, 98.4% in European children). Socio-economic differences weren lower socio-economic areas. Understanding region-specific challenges and successes could support more equitable access to vision screening between regions. Further research is required to determine sources of inequities and to investigate interactions between ethnicity, socio-economic status and location.The sound environment of a zoo animal is a complex milieu of animal and human-generated sounds; coming from the species itself, other species, visitors, keepers and other zoo-users. The current study investigated the effects of the sound environment on two flocks of flamingos housed in open-air enclosures at British zoos. Measures of how each flock used its enclosure (as a response variable) and environmental variables (Inband Power and Peak Frequency were recorded as characteristics of the sound environment, as well as temperature, humidity and cloud cover, and finally visitor presence-all as potential predictor variables) were made over a 2-month period.   • Although Ahvaz is considered as one of the warmest cities around the world, few epidemiological studies have been conducted on the adverse effects of temperature on human health using thermal indices in this city. This study investigates the relation between physiologically equivalent temperature (PET) and respiratory hospital admissions in Ahvaz. Distributed lag non-linear models (DLNMs) combined with quasi-Poisson regression models were used to investigate the relation between PET and respiratory disease hospital admissions, adjusted for the effect of time trend, air pollutants (NO2, SO2, and PM10), and weekdays. The analysis was performed by utilizing R software. Low PET values significantly decreased the risk of hospital admissions for total respiratory diseases, respiratory diseases in men and women, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD), and bronchiectasis. However, low PET (16.9°C) in all lags except lag 0-30 significantly increased the risk of hospital admissions for asthma. The results indicate that in Ahvaz, which has a warm climate, cold weather decreased overall respiratory hospital admissions, except for asthma.The roles of land scale and household labor allocation have always been a hot button in nitrogen (N) fertilizer use. Rural part-time farming is the main form of household labor allocation in China. This study aimed to quantify the N fertilizer use responses to land-scale expansion and rural part-time farming with different degrees and types in Chinese croplands. Using data on 1159 households extracted from a rural household survey in three great agricultural plains, China, we applied Ordinary Least Squares and Tobit model to yield the consistent results. The results showed that N fertilizer use significantly decreases by 2.23 kg/ha with per unit increase in land scale (p less then 0.1), while rural part-time farming degree significantly increases N fertilizer use by 29.72 kg/ha (p less then 0.01). Particularly, different effects are detected on the different types of part-time farming households. PTF II (part-time farming degree ranges from 50% to 80%) and OFH (degree higher than 80%) types are proved to be responsible for increasing N fertilizer use of 25.41 kg/ha (p less then 0.01) and 22.86 kg/ha (p less then 0.05), respectively. These findings imply that the government should encourage part-time farming households to transfer agricultural croplands, thereby expanding land scale so as to reduce N fertilizer use.Since energy is one of the basic inputs for development, emerging economies should make an effort to investigate the environmental impacts of their fast economic growth. The aim of this research was to assess the phthalic acid esters (di-n-octyl phthalate (DNOP), butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP), dimethyl phthalate (DMP), diethyl phthalate (DEP) and dibutyl phthalate (DBP), bis(di-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), and total PAEs) in bottled non-alcoholic malt beverages (n = 120) by multi-walled carbon nanotubes were magnetized with iron (MWCNT-Fe3O4) using gaschromatography/mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The results showed that the highest and the lowest levels of total phthalate esters in samples were 9483.93 and 2412.50 ng/L, respectively. The mean of DEHP which has also been found to be carcinogenic in all samples was lower than 5944.73 ng/L. The highest concentration of DEHP in four samples was upper than 8957.87 ng/L. Perceived limit of detection (LOD) ranged from 13 to 30 ng/L and the limit of quantification (LOQ) ranged from 39 to 90 ng/L. Multivariate techniques and heat map visualization were used to assess the correlation among the type and levels of PAEs with the brand, color, product date, pH, sugar, volume, and gas pressure. Therefore, based on heat map and principal component analysis (PCA) results, the DEHP and total PAEs were the closest accessions, indicating that these variables had similar trends. To find out the impact of D1-like dopamine receptor antagonist, SCH23390, in the CA1 on the inhibitory influence of CBD on the acquisition of METH, the rats received intra-CA1 administration of SCH23390 (0.25, 1, and 4 µg/0.5 µl) following ICV treatment of CBD (10 µg/5 µl) over conditioning phase of METH. Furthermore, animals were given SCH23390 in the CA1 ensuing ICV microinjection of CBD (50 µg/5 µl) in the expression phase of METH to rule out the influence of SCH23390 on the suppressive effect of CBD on the expression of METH CPP.

    Contact tracing during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in the USA has been met with various challenges. In an attempt to improve the yield of close contact collection, the Fulton County Board of Health implemented a pilot approach to contact elicitation at the time of testing.

    Between October and November 2020, close contacts were elicited from persons under investigation (PUIs) at one COVID-19 testing site in Fulton County, GA. Secure online data collection forms were used to record PUI demographic data, close contact information and reasons for not providing contacts.

    Of 1238 PUIs, 48% reported at least one contact. Among the 66 people who tested positive, 16 (24%) reported contacts compared to 578/1165 (50%) who tested negative. PUIs of increasing age were less likely to provide contacts; Black and Hispanic PUIs were also less likely to report any contacts compared to White and Asian PUIs.

    Our study revealed that PUIs testing positive were less likely to provide contacts compared to PUIs testing negative. Age and racial differences were also noted in the provision of contacts. Further investigation is needed to understand these discrepancies in order to devise more effective strategies for contact elicitation.

In the end, the paper mentions strategies that the law students may adopt amid the lack or absence of physical interaction with professors, classmates and friends.An effective protocol for the quaternization of simple 1-aminoalkylphosphonic acids under basic conditions using Me2SO4 as a convenient alkylating agent is reported.   • Air quality is one of the major issues within an urban area that affect people's living environment and health conditions. Existing observations are not adequate to provide a spatiotemporally comprehensive air quality information for vulnerable populations to plan ahead. Launched in 2017, TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI) provides a high spatial resolution (~5 km) tropospheric air quality measurement that captures the spatial variability of air pollution, but still limited by its daily overpass in the temporal dimension and relatively short historical records. Integrating with the hourly available AirNOW observations by ground-level discrete stations, we proposed and compared two deep learning methods that learn the relationship between the ground-level nitrogen dioxide (NO2) observation from AirNOW and the tropospheric NO2 column density from TROPOMI to downscale the daily NO2 to an hourly resolution. The input predictors include the locations of AirNOW stations, AirNOW NO2 observations, boundary layer height, other meteorological status, elevation, major roads, and power plants. The learned relationship can be used to produce NO2 emission estimates at the sub-urban scale on an hourly basis. The two methods include 1) an integrated method between inverse weighted distance and a feed forward neural network (IDW + DNN), and 2) a deep matrix network (DMN) that maps the discrete AirNOW observations directly to the distribution of TROPOMI observations. We further compared the accuracies of both models using different configurations of input predictors and validated their average Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE), average Mean Absolute Error (MAE) and the spatial distribution of errors. Results show that DMN generates more reliable NO2 estimates and captures a better spatial distribution of NO2 concentrations than the IDW + DNN model.Plastics are globally used for a variety of benefits. The majority of the heat represents the cleavage energy of the ester bonds in polymer backbones providing real-time kinetic informatiomimicked real-world aquatic conditions.Although some studies have investigated the impact caused by chemicals used on water treatment (coagulants and oxidants) on cyanobacteria integrity, the isolated effect of shear stress during coagulation is still not fully understood. This study evaluated the impact of different velocity gradients, mixing times, and the addition of powdered activated carbon (PAC) on the integrity of Microcystis aeruginosa, Raphidiopsis raciborskii, and Dolichospermum circinale, known producers of toxin and taste and odor (T&O) compounds. No association was found between R. raciborskii cell lysis and velocity gradient, with or without PAC, demonstrating the high resilience of this taxon to shear stress. In contrast, an association was found for M. aeruginosa at the highest velocity gradient evaluated (1000 s-1) and for D. circinale above the lowest velocity gradient studied (600 s-1). After PAC addition, there was a reduction in the chances of finding M. aeruginosa intact cells above velocity gradient 800 s-1 at 45 s, while D. circinale show cell lysis in all the scenarios expect at 600 s-1 and 10 s of agitation. The additional impact of PAC on cell lysis may lead to more release of metabolites and shows the need to adjust the hydraulic conditions in the rapid mixing stage, especially when more "fragile" cyanobacteria are present. Neither cyanobacterial cell size nor morphology was shown to be relevant to shear stress sensitivity, indicating that cell wall composition might have been an important factor in controlling cell lysis.Nanomaterials are increasingly used in food processing, daily necessities and other fields due to their excellent properties, and increase the environmental contamination. However, for a long time, research on the toxicity of NPs has mainly focused on organs such as liver, kidney and brain. There are few assessment data over the intestinal safety. Recently, as reported, NPs can be translocated to the intestinal part in mammals and would be distributed in different substructures of intestines, thus causing damage to the structure and function of the intestine, in which the gut microbiota and its metabolites play important roles. In addition, due to the special physiological environment of gut, nanomaterials will undergo complex transformations that may cause different biological effects from their original form. Therefore, this review aims to assess the potential adverse effects of NPs on intestine and its possible mechanisms through the results of in vivo mammalian experiments. In addition, the exposure pathway, biodistribution and biotransformation of NPs in the intestine are also considered. We hope this review will arouse people's attention to the intestinal nanotoxicology and provide basic information for further related studies.Chemical-contaminant mixtures are widely reported in large stream reaches in urban/agriculture-developed watersheds, but mixture compositions and aggregate biological effects are less well understood in corresponding smaller headwaters, which comprise most of stream length, riparian connectivity, and spatial biodiversity. During 2014-2017, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) measured 389 unique organic analytes (pharmaceutical, pesticide, organic wastewater indicators) in 305 headwater streams within four contiguous United States (US) regions.   • Current biomedical cardiovascular disease nutrition counseling does not incorporate Chinese medicine principles.

    A heart-healthy integrative nutritional counseling (H2INC) curriculum consistent with Chinese medicine principles and biomedical nutrition guidelines was taught to Chinese Americans in group education sessions. Chinese-speaking patients with cardiovascular disease or risk factors from an urban general medicine practice were recruited to attend a 90-minute group session. Participants completed pre-post surveys to assess the impact of H2INC on their perceived heart-healthy nutrition knowledge and empowerment, as well as the cultural relevance of H2INC.

    A total of 47 participants (mean age 74 years; 63.8% female) attended a session. In response to the statement "I am able to choose heart-healthy Chinese foods to eat," on a 5-point Likert scale for which "strongly disagree" = 1 and "strongly agree" = 5, the presession survey mean response was 3.87 ± 0.69 and the postsession survey mean response was 4.13 ± 0.58 (P=0.05). Postsession, 87% of participants agreed or strongly agreed that they felt confident using what they learned and 94% agreed or strongly agreed that H2INC fit their culture.

    H2INC had a positive impact on perceived heart-healthy nutrition knowledge and empowerment and rated high in cultural relevance. Culturally relevant education sessions like H2INC could be a promising primary care health education intervention.

Despite the efforts of the World Health Organization and others, developing countries are faced with a three-part problem when it comes to access to and delivery of transfusions insufficient supply, excessive demand, and inadequate quality of available supply. Developing countries rely heavily on replacement and remunerated donors rather than voluntary nonremunerated donors due to concerns regarding donation- and transfusion-transmitted infection as well as local and cultural beliefs. While increased awareness of HIV and improved testing techniques have jointly reduced infection-related apprehensions and improved the quality of available blood and blood products, continued efforts are warranted to bolster testing for other bloodborne pathogens. Similarly, although prevalence rates of anemia are high in some areas of the world, success in adequate widespread management of these conditions has been limited. One of the keys to expanding access to high-quality blood and blood products is thus to improve medical management of conditions that would otherwise require transfusion. Through a three-pronged approach to address quantity, quality, and demand, developing countries can enable themselves to build toward self-sufficient blood management services and increased independence from the support of international organizations.
    Many studies in preventing adverse drug events have been researcher-driven, yet few have engaged patients in the development of a project. This project aims to engage minority elderly patients with multiple chronic conditions in the development of research questions and strategies to improve medication safety.

    Elderly patients (≥65 years old) who were prescribed 7 or more chronic medications were recruited through a university-based aging resource network in a historically African American community in Houston, Texas. Patients and a caregiver participated in a multidisciplinary workgroup comprised of a physician, pharmacists, a nurse, health educators, and a social worker. Patients were engaged by utilizing the 4 patient-centered outcomes research engagement principles. The workgroup created a strategic plan, completed an environmental scan, identified research problems, and reviewed current evidence-based approaches in the literature. Workgroup findings were presented to a broader audience within a community town hall setting, and input was collected from a community-wide survey.

    From April 2018 to July 2018, 3 patients and 1 caregiver participated in 5 multidisciplinary workgroup meetings. A total of 74 seniors attended the town hall meeting, and 69 completed the surveys. The most common drug-related problems among survey participants were doubts about drug advertisements (79%) and drug interactions (70%). Most participants (88%) were more comfortable in receiving face-to-face counseling compared to an app or virtual visits. Findings aided in developing 3 grant proposals.

Patients and a caregiver participated in a multidisciplinary workgroup comprised of a physician, pharmacists, a nurse, health educators, and a social worker. Patients were engaged by utilizing the 4 patient-centered outcomes research engagement principles. The workgroup created a strategic plan, completed an environmental scan, identified research problems, and reviewed current evidence-based approaches in the literature. Workgroup findings were presented to a broader audience within a community town hall setting, and input was collected from a community-wide survey. From April 2018 to July 2018, 3 patients and 1 caregiver participated in 5 multidisciplinary workgroup meetings. A total of 74 seniors attended the town hall meeting, and 69 completed the surveys. The most common drug-related problems among survey participants were doubts about drug advertisements (79%) and drug interactions (70%). Most participants (88%) were more comfortable in receiving face-to-face counseling compared to an app or virtual visits. Findings aided in developing 3 grant proposals.     A total of 203 patients met inclusion criteria. Of those, 39 (19.2%) had a delay in initial funduscopic examination. Multivariate analyses revealed that PICU admission, surgical intervention, and seizure activity were significant predictors of delayed examination after controlling for multiple clinical factors. Results MiR135a-5p level in SHR-EVs was significantly increased. MiR135a-5p inhibitor prevented the SHR-EVs-induced VSMC proliferation. Fibronectin type III domain containing 5 (FNDC5) was a target gene of miR135a-5p. FNDC5 level was lower in VSMCs of SHR. MiR135a-5p inhibitor not only increased FNDC5 expression, but reversed the SHR-EVs-induced FNDC5 downregulation in VSMCs of SHR. For maintenance therapy, comparing with placebo, olaparib, niraparib, veliparib, and bevacizumab are effective as maintenance therapy for certain patients with newly diagnosed stage III-IV epithelial ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal carcinoma respectively without reducing quality of life.   • Many studies have verified the safety of combined radiotherapy and immune checkpoint blockades (ICBs) without the specific radiation dose or sequencing of combination. We aimed to evaluate the expression and response of PD-1, TIM-3, LAG-3 after neoadjuvant radiotherapy (NRT) and explore the possibility and optimal schedule of combining immunotherapy with radiotherapy in treating rectal cancer. Immunohistochemistry was performed to detect the expression of PD-1, TIM-3, LAG-3, CD8, and CD3. These molecules' expression was detected on the specimens of 76 rectal cancer patients following NRT and 13 of these patients before NRT. The expression of ICBs was assessed by the percentage of positive cells. The levels of PD-1 and immune cells (ICs) LAG-3 in rectal cancer increased after NRT (0% vs. 3%, P = 0.043 and 5% vs. 45%, P = 0.039, respectively). However, TIM-3 in ICs and tumor cells (TCs) were both decreased (80% vs. 50%, P = 0.011, 90% vs. 0%, P = 0.000, respectively). The LAG-3 expression was higher in patients treated with short-course RT than long-course RT (22.5% vs. 8.0%, P = 0.0440 in ICs; 0% vs. 70%, P eight weeks after long-course RT (P = 0.045). The expressions of PD-1, ICs TIM-3, ICs LAG-3, CD3, and CD8 were associated with the disease-free survival (DFS) in univariate analysis (P = 0.036, 0.008, 0.018, 0.025, and 0.004, respectively). Adjusted by the relevant variables, PD-1 (HR 0.274; 95% CI 0.089-0.840; P = 0.024) and ICs TIM-3 (HR 0.425; 95% CI 0.203-0.890; P = 0.023) were independent prognostic factors of DFS in rectal cancer patients following NRT. The data was subjected to logistic regression analyses and revealed that the subjects carrying AA genotype of rs3787016 in POLR2E had a significant 1.85-1.98-fold increased risk of GC when compared with those carrying GG genotype (adjusted OR=1.979, 95% CI=1.198-3.267; p=0.008) or those carrying AG/GG genotypes (adjusted OR=1.847, 95% CI=1.222-2.793; p=0.004). For the GC patients, the AA genotype of rs3787016 was significantly correlated with poorly differentiated GC (p=0.018), advanced TNM stage (p=0.023), higher depth of invasion (p=0.022), positive lymph node metastasis (p=0.01), and worse overall survival (OS; p=0.004). Multivariate analysis confirmed that the POLR2E rs3787016 polymorphism is an independent prognostic factor for GC (HR=1.668, 95% CI=1.058-2.631; p=0.028). Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common histological type of lung cancer but the expression and clinical significance of PPM1H in NSCLC is unknown. In our study, we detected the mRNA of PPM1H in 25 pairs of NSCLC tissues and their corresponding adjacent tissues with qRT-PCR. Moreover, we investigated PPM1H expression in 474 NSCLC tissues and divided them into subgroups with low and high PPM1H. We further evaluated its correlation with the clinicopathological factors. The correlation between PPM1H and other biomarkers involved in tumor progression including chromosome segregation 1-like protein (CSE1L), p53, and Ki67 was also estimated. In addition, the prognostic significance of PPM1H was investigated by univariate and multivariate analyses. The mRNA levels of PPM1H in NSCLCs were significantly higher than those in tumor-adjacent tissues. Patients with low and high PPM1H expression accounted for 54.64% (259/474) and 45.36% (215/474) respectively in all the NSCLCs. PPM1H expression (P = 0.012), patients' sex (P = 0.009), tumor size (P less then 0.001), histological grade (P = 0.026), T stage (P = 0.002), N stage (P less then 0.001), M stage (P = 0.011), and TNM stage (P less then 0.001) were all associated with the poor prognosis. With multivariate analysis, PPM1H was determined as an independent prognostic factor of NSCLC (HR = 1.42, 95% CI = 1.14-1.75, P = 0.001). Moreover, high PPM1H was significantly with high Ki67 (P = 0.022), indicating the oncogenic role of PPM1H. PPM1H is an independent prognostic factor indicating an unfavorable prognosis of NSCLC. Our results indicated that PPM1H was an important supplement of NSCLC molecular profile and detecting PPM1H may help recognize the high-risk patients for further treatment.

Moreover, we investigated PPM1H expression in 474 NSCLC tissues and divided them into subgroups with low and high PPM1H. We further evaluated its correlation with the clinicopathological factors. The correlation between PPM1H and other biomarkers involved in tumor progression including chromosome segregation 1-like protein (CSE1L), p53, and Ki67 was also estimated. In addition, the prognostic significance of PPM1H was investigated by univariate and multivariate analyses. The mRNA levels of PPM1H in NSCLCs were significantly higher than those in tumor-adjacent tissues. Patients with low and high PPM1H expression accounted for 54.64% (259/474) and 45.36% (215/474) respectively in all the NSCLCs. PPM1H expression (P = 0.012), patients' sex (P = 0.009), tumor size (P less then 0.001), histological grade (P = 0.026), T stage (P = 0.002), N stage (P less then 0.001), M stage (P = 0.011), and TNM stage (P less then 0.001) were all associated with the poor prognosis. With multivariate analysis, PPM1H was determined as an independent prognostic factor of NSCLC (HR = 1.42, 95% CI = 1.14-1.75, P = 0.001). Moreover, high PPM1H was significantly with high Ki67 (P = 0.022), indicating the oncogenic role of PPM1H. PPM1H is an independent prognostic factor indicating an unfavorable prognosis of NSCLC. Our results indicated that PPM1H was an important supplement of NSCLC molecular profile and detecting PPM1H may help recognize the high-risk patients for further treatment.

  • The prevalence of persistent peripheral neuropathy (PN) in early-stage breast cancer (ESBC) survivors is largely unknown. We explored the occurrence and risk factors of PN among long-term ESBC survivors treated with taxane chemotherapy.

    A population-based cohort of 884 recurrence-free ESBC survivors diagnosed 2010-2015 in the South East Health Care region, Sweden and 1768 control women without prior cancer received a postal questionnaire that included the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN20) items. Prevalence, relative risks (RRs) (Poisson regression) and risk factors (binomial regression) were calculated. Adjustments were made for confounding factors (e.g. age, body mass index, comorbidities).

    The response rate was 79% for survivors and 59% for controls. The median time post taxane was 3.6 years (1.5-7.3 years). The adjusted RR was highest (RR 1.8) for "tingling/numbness of toes/feet". Individual sensory symptoms occurred in 8.9-48.4% and motor symptoms in 7.2-61.3% of survivors; the most prevalent symptoms were "difficulty opening jar" and "cramps in feet". Paclitaxel, older age, overweight, diabetes mellitus, vibrating hand tools, autoimmune disease and smoking were independent risk factors.

After a median follow-up of 115 months, there was no difference in 5-year DFS rate with chemotherapy <31 compared to ≥31 days after surgery in the overall population (81 versus 82% hazard ratio (HR) 1.15, 95% confidence interval (95% CI) 0.92-1.43, p = 0.230). The 5-year OS rate was similar in patients who received chemotherapy <31 or ≥31 days after surgery (90 versus 91%, (HR 1.21, 95% CI 0.89-1.64, p = 0.228). For 250 patients with triple-negative breast cancer OS was significantly worse in patients who received chemotherapy ≥31 versus <31 days (HR = 2.18, 95% CI 1.11-4.30, p = 0.02).

    Patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) undergoing radiotherapy (RT) or chemoradiation (CRT) may become immunocompromised. In this population-based study, we aimed to investigate the risk factors, microbiological aetiologies, prognosis and impact on early non-cancer mortality of bloodstream infections (BSIs) after RT/CRT.

    We included 5674 patients and observed 238 BSIs. Increasing age, stage and performance status were significantly associated with an elevated BSI risk, while sex, smoking and high-grade mucositis were not. Human papillomavirus-positive oropharyngeal cancer patients had a decreased risk. Staphylococcus aureus accounted for 34% of episodes occurring during the first 3 months. The 30-day post-BSI mortality rate was 26% (95% confidence interval 19-32) and BSIs were involved in 10% of early non-cancer deaths.

Comparisons between core genes and dispensable genes suggest that dispensable genes are important for sorghum adaptation. Extensive genetic variation was uncovered within the pan-genome, and the distribution of these variations was influenced by variation of recombination rate and transposable element content across the genome. We identified presence/absence variants that were under selection during sorghum domestication and improvement, and demonstrated that such variation had important phenotypic outcomes that could contribute to crop improvement.   • In this work, several carbon-decorated Na3V2(PO4)3 materials (NVP@C-750/800/850) are successfully fabricated using a sol-gel approach and subsequent heat treatment. When NVP@C-800 is used as a cathode, it shows an ultralong cycle life (2000 cycles) at a high rate of 10C, which is superior to the other two electrodes and those of reported NVP@C cathodes in the literature. The excellent results of NVP@C-800 are attributed to its nanostructure and the well-defined conductive carbon layer. Using data from calibrator and quality control samples added to 60 96-well trays (analytical runs), we calculated analytical precision (CV) retrospectively. The use of integrated peak areas for all metabolites and internal standards allowed us to calculate precision for all matching analyte (A)/SIL-IS (IS) pairs as well as for all nonmatching A/IS pairs within each platform (total n = 1442). The median between-run precision for matching A/IS across the four platforms was 2.7-5.9%. The median CV for nonmatching A/IS (corresponding to pairing analytes with a non-SIL-IS) was 2.9-10.7 percentage points higher. Across all platforms, CVs for nonmatching A/IS increased with increasing difference in retention time (Spearman's rho of 0.17-0.93). The present study aims to investigate the potential therapeutic effect of dexmedetomidine in a mouse stroke model and hypoxia/reoxygenation(OGD/R)-induced brain endothelial dysfunction. First, we found that Sigma-1R was significantly upregulated in middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) **** by the administration of dexmedetomidine. In vivo experiments revealed that dexmedetomidine ameliorated hyperpermeability of the blood-brain barrier (BBB), lowered the expression level of Occludin, and impaired brain function as measured by neurological scores in MCAO ****. In vitro assays show that dexmedetomidine alleviated OGD/R-caused cytotoxicity, hyperpermeability, abnormal expression of Occludin, and inflammatory factors in human brain microvascular endothelial cells (HBMVECs). Moreover, blockage of Sigma-1R by its antagonist BD1047 abolished the neuroprotective property of dexmedetomidine in both animal and cell culture experiments. On the basis of these findings, we conclude that dexmedetomidine therapy shows neuroprotection in MCAO ****. Mechanistically, dexmedetomidine alleviated hypoxia/reoxygenation-induced cerebral endothelial dysfunction by activating the Sigma-1R-mediated signaling pathway.
    In this work, several carbon-decorated Na3V2(PO4)3 materials (NVP@C-750/800/850) are successfully fabricated using a sol-gel approach and subsequent heat treatment. When NVP@C-800 is used as a cathode, it shows an ultralong cycle life (2000 cycles) at a high rate of 10C, which is superior to the other two electrodes and those of reported NVP@C cathodes in the literature. The excellent results of NVP@C-800 are attributed to its nanostructure and the well-defined conductive carbon layer. Diabetes care specialists and educators took on leadership roles for coordinating care and establishing insulin supply lifelines for people with T1D living in the hardest-hit neighborhoods affected by these extreme storms. Strategies and resources were customized for each population. Diabetes specialists strategized to provide mutual support and shared insulins and supplies across sites.The objective of the Caribbean Strong Summit was to plan an intersectoral summit to address the equity of community health and resilience for disaster preparedness, response and recovery and develop a set of integrated and actionable recommendations for Puerto Rico and the Caribbean Region post Hurricanes Irma and Maria. A three-day meeting was convened with a wide range of community, organizational and private sector leaders along with representatives from Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, the Americas, and global experts to generate recommendations for enhanced resilience based upon lessons learned and evidence-based approaches. More than 500 participants from the region gave 104 presentations with recommendations for resilience. Over 150 recommendations were generated and ranked for importance and actionability by participants. A representative sample of these are presented along with five major themes for building health resilient communities in the Caribbean. This summit was successful in compiling a set of integrated recommendations from more than 19 diverse sectors and in defining five major thematic areas for future work to enhance resilience for all types of future disasters. A follow-up meeting should be planned to continue this discussion and to showcase work that has been accomplished in these areas. A complete set of the recommendations from the Caribbean Strong Summit and their analysis and compilation would be published and should serve as a foundational effort to enhance preparedness and resiliency towards future disasters in the Caribbean.Social media research during natural disasters has been presented as a tool to guide response and relief efforts in the disciplines of geography and computer sciences. This systematic review highlights the public health implications of social media use in the response phase of the emergency, assessing (1) how social media can improve the dissemination of emergency warning and response information during and after a natural disaster, and (2) how social media can help identify physical, medical, functional, and emotional needs after a natural disaster. We surveyed the literature using 3 databases and included 44 research articles. We found that analyses of social media data were performed using a wide range of spatiotemporal scales. Social media platforms were identified as broadcasting tools presenting an opportunity for public health agencies to share emergency warnings. Social media was used as a tool to identify areas in need of relief operations or medical assistance by using self-reported location, with map development as a common method to visualize data. In retrospective analyses, social media analysis showed promise as an opportunity to reduce the time of response and to identify the individuals' location. Further research for misinformation and rumor control using social media is needed.OBJECTIVE To estimate the prevalence of high, marginal, low and very low food security among a sample of college students and identify characteristics associated with the four different food security status levels and note differences in associations from when food security status is classified as food-secure v. food-insecure. DESIGN Cross-sectional online survey. SETTING A large public university in North Carolina. PARTICIPANTS 4829 college students who completed an online survey in October and November 2016. RESULTS Among study participants, 56·2 % experienced high, 21·6 % experienced marginal, 18·8 % experienced low and 3·4 % experienced very low food security. Characteristics significantly associated with food security status when using the four-level variable but not two-level variable were age, international student status and weight status. Characteristics that significantly differed between the marginal and high food security groups included age, race/ethnicity, year in school, international student status, employment status, financial aid receipt, perceived health rating, cooking frequency and participation in an on-campus meal plan.
