  • RATIONALE Polycystic liver disease (PLD) is an autosomal-dominant disorder that is commonly associated with autosomal-dominant polycystic kidney disease (PKD) but rarely complicated with polycystic lung. Here, we report the first case of severe obstructive jaundice caused by multiple liver cysts in a patient with PLD complicated by PKD and polycystic lung. LESSONS Imaging examination of the lungs is necessary for patients with PLD. Although infrequent, jaundice can occur in these patients and cause severe hyperbilirubinemia. When surgery is contraindicated, blood purification may serve as an alternative treatment for patients with PLD-related obstructive jaundice.Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection disproportionately affects African-Americans (AAs) and is a major contributor to liver failure and mortality. We retrospectively investigated whether genetic host factors, viral genotypes, and treatment compliance in AA patients impacted the efficacy and the sustained virological response (SVR) rate of the interferon (IFN)-based treatment regimen. The medical chart review included 76 African-American patients (age ranging from 26 to 76) with varying levels of hepatitis condition. Fifty-seven (75%) of them had a clinically verifiable HCV infection and were followed by a hepatologist for 2 years at Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC. Both comprehensive metabolic profile and complete blood count analyses were performed. Among the 57 patients whose viral and IL28B genotypes were determined, sixty-eight percent (68%) were infected with viral genotype 1 and 71% harbored the CT allele of the IL28B gene. Among the 12 patients who completed treatment with IFN-based dual or triple therapy, 58% had achieved SVR 12 weeks following completion of treatment; 33% had a partial response with under 6000 viral count after 16 weeks of treatment; and there was one patient with viral genotype 1a and CT allele who did not respond to the medications. The results of this study prove that the PEG IFN-based regimen was effective in treating HCV-infected AA patients despite the current availability of new direct-acting antivirals. The study comprised 34 patients and 36 healthy subjects. Demographic characteristics of all the participants were recorded. The thickness of the femoral articular cartilage was measured using a 5-18MHzlinearprobe.Measurements were performed bilaterally from three points (intercondylar area, medial condyle, and lateral condyle). No significant difference could be found between patients and healthy subjects. Two demographic characteristics correlated positively with diabetic patients.It is known that the presence of orthodontic brackets predisposes for a change in the biofilm, facilitating the development of gingivits. The sites are difficult to access with a toothbrush and periodontal curette, worsening inflammation, in addition, a gingival hyperplasia is associated with poor hygiene. The objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of photodinamyc therapy (PDT) as an adjuvant treatment, considering clinical immunoregulatory and microbiological parameters. This randomized, controlled, double-blind clinical study will include 34 patients, both genders, having used fixed appliance for more than 12 months, with gingivitis. Participants will be divided into two groups G1 (n = 17)- Scaling and Root Planing + PDT placebo and G2 (n = 17)- Scaling and Root Planing + PDT. In G2 the following dosimetric parameters will be used methylene blue 0.005%, λ= 660 nanometers (nm), 9 Joules (J) per site, irradiance= 3.5Watts (W)/ centimeters (cm), radiant exposure= 318J/cm. All participants will receive oral hygiene guidance prior the curetes scaling.

  • Therefore, minimally invasive surgery could be performed successfully with mini-laparotomy following laparoscopic observation. Laparoscopic techniques for the small intestine are viable options, even in acute and uncommon situations, and small bowel perforation secondary to metastasis should be considered in patients with undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma and acute abdomen.Background The current literature shows that one of the alternative therapies used to control constipation is reflexology. This study was conducted to assess the effect of reflexology on the constipation status of elderly people. Methods This study was randomized clinical trial conducted from at the private nursing home in the Ankara Province. At the nursing home, 60 eligible elderly people were randomly assigned into experimental (n = 30) and control (n = 30) groups. The experimental group received foot reflexology massage for 1 month three times per week for 30 min. Reflexology was initiated from the patient's right foot. The foot was relaxed primarily by applying effleurage followed by shaking, rotation, and stretching methods. The practice ended by applying solar plexus pressure on both feet. For elderly people in the control group foot surface massage without pressure was applied to simulate the interventions similar to the experimental group. The scale scores before and after reflexology were noted for the experimental group, and those for the control group, which did not receive any reflexology massage, were also determined. Results After the implementation of reflexology, the rate of emptying bowels on alternate days increased in the experimental group as opposed to that in the control group (P less then 0.001). In this study, reflexology was found to improve the quality of life of the elderly and decrease the severity of constipation. Conclusion Foot reflexology massage was found to be effective in relieving the constipation of elderly people. Therefore, reflexology is recommended as part of nursing care to reduce the constipation status of elderly people.Background It is important to intervene early and treat children and individuals with behavioral disorders. We conducted a functional assessment-based consultation for teachers of several students with severe behavioral disorders and examined the effects of the consultation. Methods Eight students with severe behavioral disorders were selected from two special schools for intellectual disabilities in western Japan. An external consultant team conducted a functional assessment-based consultation in cooperation with a team of teachers. Consultations were held once a month, and comprised three to six sessions per student. Results As a result of the functional assessment, only 8 out of 10 behaviors with some communication function, and 2 with only sensory enhancements were estimated. The Effects of consultations based on functional assessment were presented. It was found that 6 out of 10 target behaviors had obtained high effects. The total score for each behavioral scale showed a statistically significant improvement. Conclusion Although consultations lasted for only six months and occurred from three to six times for each student, scale scores for problem behavior before and after intervention were improved, overall. Each case report suggested that many factors influence the difference in the effects of consultation among individual students. This study is significant in that it provides a model for the consultation system that operates on a short-term basis, and presents a means for small-scale group consultations for students with intellectual disabilities and autism in cooperation with external specialized institutions in special schools in Japan.Background We compared short- and long-term clinical outcomes including inflammatory marker levels between robotic gastrectomy (RG) and laparoscopic gastrectomy (LG) to define the advantages of RG over LG. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/AZD6244.html Methods We enrolled 209 patients with gastric cancer who underwent curative distal gastrectomy. We compared short- and long-term clinical outcomes including inflammatory marker levels between RG and LG to define the advantages of RG over LG. C-reactive protein (CRP) levels; the CRP-to-albumin, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte, and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratios; and the prognostic nutritional index were compared as systemic inflammatory markers. Results RG was associated with a longer operative time. The incidence of postoperative infectious complications of grade II or higher according to the Clavien-Dindo classification was not significantly different between the two groups. Amylase levels in drainage fluid on postoperative days 1 and 3 were significantly lower in the RG group than in the LG group. The incidence of pancreatic fistula in the RG group (4.3%) was lower than that in the LG group (7.5%), albeit without significance. There were no significant differences in inflammatory marker levels either before or after surgery between the two groups. The 3-year overall survival rate did not significantly differ between the RG and LG groups (91.1% vs. 91.1%). Similar results were observed regarding the 3-year disease-specific survival rate (100% vs. 97.1%). Conclusion RG might be feasible and safe for treating gastric cancer from both surgical and oncological perspectives. The use of robotic assistance is associated with decreased amylase levels in drainage fluid, which may reduce the risk of pancreatic fistula and prevent pancreatic injury.Background Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) is an aggressive type of thyroid cancer, and its metastasis requires cell motility. Ceramide is involved in a variety of biological processes, including inflammation, cell signaling, cell motility, and induction of apoptosis, however has not previously been reported to inhibit the motility of ATC cells. We evaluated the effect of short chain C6-ceramide on motility of ATC cells. Methods Cell motility of 8305C thyroid carcinoma cell line treated with C6-ceramide was assessed using a transwell migration assay and a pseudopodia formation assay. Results Treatment with 10 µ****-ceramide resulted in significantly fewer migratory cells than control treatment in a transwell migration assay (P less then 0.002). In condition medium, 82.6% of C6-ceramide-treated cells formed lamellipodia. Importantly, treatment with 10 µ****-ceramide drastically decreased the number of cells forming lamellipodia by 17.6% (P less then 0.01). Conclusion Our results suggest that treatment with a low concentration of ceramide may prevent metastasis and recurrence of ATC by inhibiting cell motility.

No claim to original U.S. Government Works.Intestinal mononuclear phagocytes (MPs) are composed of heterogeneous dendritic cell (DC) and macrophage subsets necessary for the initiation of immune response and control of inflammation. Although MPs in the normal intestine have been extensively studied, the heterogeneity and function of inflammatory MPs remain poorly defined. We performed phenotypical, transcriptional, and functional analyses of inflammatory MPs in infectious Salmonella colitis and identified CX3CR1+ MPs as the most prevalent inflammatory cell type. CX3CR1+ MPs were further divided into three distinct populations, namely, Nos2 +CX3CR1lo, Ccr7 +CX3CR1int (lymph migratory), and Cxcl13 +CX3CR1hi (mucosa resident), all of which were transcriptionally aligned with macrophages and derived from monocytes. In follow-up experiments in vivo, intestinal CX3CR1+ macrophages were superior to conventional DC1 (cDC1) and cDC2 in inducing Salmonella-specific mucosal IgA. We next examined spatial organization of the immune response induced by CX3CR1+ ****.To identify genetic variants for risk of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN), we conducted a two-phase genome-wide association study consisting of 7,858,089 SNPs in 2,171 cases and 4,493 controls of non-Hispanic white, of which 434,839 typed and 7,423,250 imputed SNPs as the discovery. SNPs with P less then 1×10-3 were further validated in the OncoArray study of oral and pharynx cancer (5,205 cases and 3,232 controls of European ancestry) from dbGaP. Meta-analysis of the discovery and replication studies identified one novel locus 6p22.1 (P = 2.96×10-9 for the leading rs259919) and two cancer susceptibility loci 6p21.32 (rs3135001, HLA-DQB1) and 6p21.33 (rs1265081, CCHCR1) associated with SCCHN risk. Further stratification by tumor site revealed four known cancer loci (5p15.33, 6p21.32, 6p21.33, and 2p23.1) associated with oral cavity cancer risk and oropharyngeal cancer risk, respectively. In addition, one novel locus 18q22.2 (P = 2.54×10-9 for the leading SNP rs142021700) was identified for hypo-pharynx and larynx cancer risk. For SNPs in those reported or novel loci, we also performed functional annotations by bioinformatics prediction and eQTL analysis. Collectively, our identification of four reported loci (2p23.1, 5p15.33, 6p21.32, and 6p21.33) and two novel loci (6p22.1 and 18q22.2) for SCCHN risk highlight the importance of HLA loci for oropharyngeal cancer risk, suggesting that immunologic mechanisms are implicated in the etiology of this subset of SCCHN. A number of studies revealed that high levels of GRP78 protein in cancer cells confer multidrug resistance (MDR) to therapeutic treatment. Therefore, drug candidate that reduces GRP78 may represent a novel approach to eliminate MDR cancer cells. Our earlier studies showed that a set of 4H-chromene derivatives induce selective cytotoxicity in MDR cancer cells. In the present study, we elucidated its selective mechanism in four MDR cancer cell lines with one lead candidate (CXL146). Cytotoxicity results confirmed the selective cytotoxicity of CXL146 towards the MDR cancer cell lines. We noted significant overexpression of GRP78 in all four MDR cell lines compared to the parental cell lines. Unexpectedly, CXL146 treatment rapidly and dose-dependently reduced GRP78 protein in MDR cancer cell lines. Using HL60/MX2 cell line as the model, we demonstrated that CXL146 treatment activated the unfolded protein response (UPR) as evidpeutics.Growing evidence indicates that oxidative and endoplasmic reticular stress, which trigger changes in ion channels and inflammatory pathways that may undermine cellular homeostasis and survival, are critical determinants of injury in the diabetic kidney. Although MPs in the normal intestine have been extensively studied, the heterogeneity and function of inflammatory MPs remain poorly defined. We performed phenotypical, transcriptional, and functional analyses of inflammatory MPs in infectious Salmonella colitis and identified CX3CR1+ MPs as the most prevalent inflammatory cell type. CX3CR1+ MPs were further divided into three distinct populations, namely, Nos2 +CX3CR1lo, Ccr7 +CX3CR1int (lymph migratory), and Cxcl13 +CX3CR1hi (mucosa resident), all of which were transcriptionally aligned with macrophages and derived from monocytes. In follow-up experiments in vivo, intestinal CX3CR1+ macrophages were superior to conventional DC1 (cDC1) and cDC2 in inducing Salmonella-specific mucosal IgA. We next examined spatial organization of the immune response induced by CX3CR1+ macr.To identify genetic variants for risk of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN), we conducted a two-phase genome-wide association study consisting of 7,858,089 SNPs in 2,171 cases and 4,493 controls of non-Hispanic white, of which 434,839 typed and 7,423,250 imputed SNPs as the discovery. SNPs with P less then 1×10-3 were further validated in the OncoArray study of oral and pharynx cancer (5,205 cases and 3,232 controls of European ancestry) from dbGaP. Meta-analysis of the discovery and replication studies identified one novel locus 6p22.1 (P = 2.96×10-9 for the leading rs259919) and two cancer susceptibility loci 6p21.32 (rs3135001, HLA-DQB1) and 6p21.33 (rs1265081, CCHCR1) associated with SCCHN risk. Further stratification by tumor site revealed four known cancer loci (5p15.33, 6p21.32, 6p21.33, and 2p23.1) associated with oral cavity cancer risk and oropharyngeal cancer risk, respectively. In addition, one novel locus 18q22.2 (P = 2.54×10-9 for the leading SNP rs142021700) was identified for hypo-pharynx and larynx cancer risk. For SNPs in those reported or novel loci, we also performed functional annotations by bioinformatics prediction and eQTL analysis. Collectively, our identification of four reported loci (2p23.1, 5p15.33, 6p21.32, and 6p21.33) and two novel loci (6p22.1 and 18q22.2) for SCCHN risk highlight the importance of HLA loci for oropharyngeal cancer risk, suggesting that immunologic mechanisms are implicated in the etiology of this subset of SCCHN. Our earlier studies showed that a set of 4H-chromene derivatives induce selective cytotoxicity in MDR cancer cells. In the present study, we elucidated its selective mechanism in four MDR cancer cell lines with one lead candidate (CXL146). Cytotoxicity results confirmed the selective cytotoxicity of CXL146 towards the MDR cancer cell lines. We noted significant overexpression of GRP78 in all four MDR cell lines compared to the parental cell lines. Unexpectedly, CXL146 treatment rapidly and dose-dependently reduced GRP78 protein in MDR cancer cell lines. The parameters were defined based on the intermediate bone material properties in the anatomical directions and assigned to an equivalent non-porous specimen of the same size. The equivalent model capability was analyzed by comparing the micro- and macro- models. RESULTS The hysteresis graphs of the micro-scale model show that the modulus is the same in loading and unloading; similar to the metal plasticity models. The strength and failure strains in each anatomical direction are higher in compression than in tension. The micro-scale models exhibited an orthotropic behavior. Appropriate parameters of cast iron plasticity model were chosen to generate macro-scale models that are capable of replicating the observed micro-scale behavior of cancellous bone. CONCLUSION Cancellous bone is an orthotropic material that can be simulated using a cast iron plasticity model. This model is capable of replicating the micro-scale behavior in FE analysis simulations without the need for individual trabecula, leading to a reduction in computational resources without sacrificing model accuracy. We tested fluid shear at 15 dyne/cm2 that can be encountered during breast cancer cells travelling through blood vessels or metastasizing to mechanically active tissues such as bone. MCF-10A exhibited the least migration with a trend of migrating in the flow direction. Intriguingly, fluid shear played a potent role as a trigger for MDA-MB-231 cell migration, inducing directional migration along the flow with significantly increased displacement length and migration speed and decreased arrest coefficient relative to unflowed MDA-MB-231. In contrast, MDA-MB-468 cells were markedly less migratory than MDA-MB-231 cells, and responded very poorly to fluid shear.   • Background Understanding the metabolic and lipidomic changes that accompany bone loss in osteoporosis might provide insights about the mechanisms behind molecular changes and facilitate developing new drugs or nutritional strategies for osteoporosis prevention. This study aimed to examine the effects of short- or long-term glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis on plasma metabolites and lipids of ovariectomized (OVX) sheep. Methods Twenty-eight aged ewes were divided randomly into four groups an OVX group, OVX in combination with glucocorticoids for two months (OVXG2), and OVX in combination with five doses of glucocorticoids (OVXG5) to induce bone loss, and a control group. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry untargeted metabolomic analysis was applied to monthly plasma samples to follow the progression of osteoporosis over five months. Results The metabolite profiles revealed significant differences in the plasma metabolome of OVX sheep and OVXG when compared with the control group by univariate analysis. Nine metabolites were altered, namely 5-methoxytryptophan, valine, methionine, tryptophan, glutaric acid, 2-pyrrolidone-5-carboxylic acid, indole-3-carboxaldehyde, 5-hydroxylysine and malic acid. Similarly, fifteen lipids were perturbed from multiple lipid classes such as lysophoslipids, phospholipids and ceramides. Conclusion This study showed that OVX and glucocorticoid interventions altered the metabolite and lipid profiles of sheep, suggesting that amino acid and lipid metabolisms are potentially the main perturbed metabolic pathways regulating bone loss in OVX sheep.Background Global health partnerships have expanded exponentially in the last two decades with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance considered the model's pioneer and leader because of its vaccination programs' implementation mechanism. Gavi, relies on diverse domestic and international partners to carry out the programs in low- and middle-income countries under a partnership engagement framework (PEF). In this study, we utilized mixed methods to examine Mozambique's Gavi driven partnership network which delivered human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine during the demonstration phase. Methods Qualitative tools gauged contextual factors, prerequisites, partner performance and practices while a social network analysis (SNA) survey measured the partnership structure and perceived added value in terms of effectiveness, efficiency and country ownership. Forty key informants who were interviewed included frontline Ministry of Health workers, Ministry of Education staff and supporting partner organization members, of whom 34 parti prominent role of several out-of-country partner organizations as a major obstacle. Conclusions While there is room for improvement on the country ownership aspects of the partnership, the expanded, diverse and inclusive collaboration of institutions and organizations that implemented the Mozambique HPV vaccine demonstration project was effective and efficient. The aim of this study was to measure the prevalence and predictors of taking tetanus toxoid among pregnant women in Sierra Leone. Methods This study was based on the fifth round of Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (**** 5) conducted in Sierra Leone in 2017. In total 8722 women aged between 15 and 49 years were included in this study. Outcome variable was taking of Tetanus Toxoid vaccination during the last pregnancy. Data were analyzed using cross-tabulation and logistic regression methods. Results The overall prevalence of receiving TT immunization during women's last pregnancy was 96.3% and that of taking at least two doses was 82.12%. She was assessed with a broad neuropsychological test battery three times during a year. Her body mass index was 8.4, 9.3, and 7.7 kg/m2, respectively. Her general memory performance was above the normal range and she performed well on verbal and design fluency tasks. Her working memory and processing speed were within the normal range. However, her results on cognitive flexibility tasks (set-shifting) were below the normal range.

Results The metabolite profiles revealed significant differences in the plasma metabolome of OVX sheep and OVXG when compared with the control group by univariate analysis. Nine metabolites were altered, namely 5-methoxytryptophan, valine, methionine, tryptophan, glutaric acid, 2-pyrrolidone-5-carboxylic acid, indole-3-carboxaldehyde, 5-hydroxylysine and malic acid. Similarly, fifteen lipids were perturbed from multiple lipid classes such as lysophoslipids, phospholipids and ceramides. Conclusion This study showed that OVX and glucocorticoid interventions altered the metabolite and lipid profiles of sheep, suggesting that amino acid and lipid metabolisms are potentially the main perturbed metabolic pathways regulating bone loss in OVX sheep.Background Global health partnerships have expanded exponentially in the last two decades with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance considered the model's pioneer and leader because of its vaccination programs' implementation mechanism. Gavi, relies on diverse domestic and international partners to carry out the programs in low- and middle-income countries under a partnership engagement framework (PEF). In this study, we utilized mixed methods to examine Mozambique's Gavi driven partnership network which delivered human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine during the demonstration phase. Methods Qualitative tools gauged contextual factors, prerequisites, partner performance and practices while a social network analysis (SNA) survey measured the partnership structure and perceived added value in terms of effectiveness, efficiency and country ownership. Forty key informants who were interviewed included frontline Ministry of Health workers, Ministry of Education staff and supporting partner organization members, of whom 34 parti prominent role of several out-of-country partner organizations as a major obstacle. Conclusions While there is room for improvement on the country ownership aspects of the partnership, the expanded, diverse and inclusive collaboration of institutions and organizations that implemented the Mozambique HPV vaccine demonstration project was effective and efficient. We recommend that the country adapt a similar model during national scale up of HPV vaccination.Background Immunization of women during pregnancy to protect them and their infants against tetanus, pertussis and influenza is recommended by the World health Organization (WHO). However, there is limited information about the coverage rate and associated factors in low-income countries. The aim of this study was to measure the prevalence and predictors of taking tetanus toxoid among pregnant women in Sierra Leone. Methods This study was based on the fifth round of Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS 5) conducted in Sierra Leone in 2017. In total 8722 women aged between 15 and 49 years were included in this study. Outcome variable was taking of Tetanus Toxoid vaccination during the last pregnancy. Data were analyzed using cross-tabulation and logistic regression methods. Results The overall prevalence of receiving TT immunization during women's last pregnancy was 96.3% and that of taking at least two doses was 82.12%. In the regression analysis, women from Mende ethnicity had a 0.48 fold lower chance of Sierra Leone are strongly recommended.Background Cancer impacts on patients and their families across a range of different domains. For that reason, optimal cancer care has moved away from a disease-centric focus to a more holistic approach in order to proactively support people with their individual needs and concerns. While international policy clearly advocates this agenda, implementation into routine care is limited. Therefore, relevant interventions that measurably improve patient outcomes are essential to understand if this ideal is to become routine multidisciplinary practice. The aim of this study was to analyse the impact of a proactive, holistic, community-based intervention on health-related quality of life in a cohort of people diagnosed with cancer. Case presentation We present the cognitive profile of a 35-year-old woman with severe and enduring anorexia nervosa who was diagnosed at the age of 10 years. She was assessed with a broad neuropsychological test battery three times during a year. Her body mass index was 8.4, 9.3, and 7.7 kg/m2, respectively. Her general memory performance was above the normal range and she performed well on verbal and design fluency tasks. Her working memory and processing speed were within the normal range. However, her results on cognitive flexibility tasks (set-shifting) were below the normal range.

  • The hardness of the effective inverse power law (IPL) potential, which can be obtained from thermodynamics or collision integrals, can be used to demonstrate similarities between thermodynamic and transport properties. This link is investigated for systems of increasing complexity (i.e., the EXP, square-well, Lennard-Jones, and Stockmayer potentials; ab initio results for small molecules; and rigid linear chains of Lennard-Jones sites). These results show that while the two approaches do not yield precisely the same values of effective IPL exponent, their qualitative behavior is intriguingly similar, offering a new way of understanding the effective interactions between molecules, especially at high temperatures. In both approaches, the effective hardness is obtained from a double-logarithmic temperature derivative of an effective area.We report a numerical study of the diffusiophoresis of short polymers using non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations. More precisely, we consider polymer chains in a fluid containing a solute that has a concentration gradient and examine the variation of the induced diffusiophoretic velocity of the polymer chains as the interaction between the monomer and the solute is varied. We find that there is a non-monotonic relation between the diffusiophoretic mobility and the strength of the monomer-solute interaction. In addition, we find a weak dependence of the mobility on the length of the polymer chain, which shows clear difference from the diffusiophoresis of a solid particle. In practice, its cost does not scale exponentially with the number of atoms, and it can be used with any general PES; the PES need not be an SOP and need not have a special form. No integrals and, hence, no quadratures are necessary. We demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the new method by computing vibrational energy eigenstates of methyl radical, methane, and acetonitrile. To do this, we use **-C-MCTDH with a variant of improved relaxation, derived by evaluating a residual at points. Because the ** basis functions are multivariate, collocation points in multi-dimensional spaces are required. We use two types of collocation points (1) discrete variable representation-like points obtained from (approximate) simultaneous diagonalization of matrices and (2) Leja points, which are known to be good interpolation points, determined from a generalized recipe suitable for any basis.Radical pair recombination reactions are known to be sensitive to extremely weak magnetic fields and can therefore be said to function as molecular magnetoreceptors. Here, we use a recently developed method to perform numerically converged simulations of the C•+PF•- quantum mechanical spin dynamics, including all coupled spins. A comparison of these quantum mechanical simulations with various semiclassical approximations reveals that, while it is not perfect, the best semiclassical approximation does capture essentially all of the relevant physics in this problem.We present results from molecular dynamics simulations coupled with enhanced sampling techniques on the adsorption and isomerization of glyoxal (GL) and methylglyoxal (MG) at the air/hydroxylated silica (α-Quartz) interface. GL and MG are two organic compounds present in the atmosphere as oxidation products of both biogenic and anthropogenic precursors. By adsorption and hydration on liquid droplets or wetted dust particles, they can enable aerosol growth in the atmosphere. Moreover, thanks to the different polar characters of their trans and cis conformers, GL and MG have been suggested as possible molecular switches capable of responding to changes in solvent polarity. Here, we show that the hydroxylated silica surface does not significantly catalyze the trans-to-cis isomerization, but it stabilizes the cis-isomers, indicating a higher interfacial cis/trans relative concentration compared to the gas phase. Moreover, adsorbed GL prefers to lie parallel on the silica surface, while adsorbed MG shows a tilted orientation. In particular, we report the aldehyde group pointing upward (downward) to the gas phase (to the silica surface) in trans-MG (cis-MG). These results will help in the rationalization of upcoming experimental and modeling work on the adsorption of ketonic compounds on dust aerosols, while it clarifies the catalytic role of the solid substrate surface in promoting conformational changes.A major impediment limiting the widespread application of ionic liquids (ILs) is their high shear viscosity.   • Although the asymmetry of species linkage within ecological networks is now well recognized, its effect on communities has scarcely been empirically investigated. Based on theory, we predicted that an asymmetric architecture of antagonistic plant-herbivore networks would emerge at the community level and that this asymmetry would negatively affect community-common plants more than rare ones. We tested this prediction by analyzing the architectural properties of an alpine plant and pre-dispersal seed-predator network and its effect on seed loss rate of plants in the Tibetan Plateau. This network showed an asymmetric architecture, where the common plant species (with a larger aboveground biomass per area) were infested by a higher number of predator species. Moreover, they asymmetrically interacted with specialized herbivores, presumably because of greater seed resource abundance. In turn, the asymmetric interactions led to a higher proportion of seed loss in the common plants at the species level. Our results suggest that asymmetric antagonistic networks may improve species coexistence by contributing to a mechanism of rare-species advantage. This article is protected by copyright. Even though is highly patronized as a delicacy by a majority of Ghanaians (akrantie-Twi language) mostly in the rural areas, the persistent reports on people being poisoned as a result of eating food prepared with grasscutter which has been captured/killed by the use of poison are deterring people from consuming the grasscutter meat despite its high protein content. The objective of this study was, therefore, to investigate the actual ingredients that are used in the formulation of poison to capture grasscutter for human consumption. Questionnaires were administered to participants (farmers) who are involved in grasscutter hunting to solicit the ingredient they formulate to poison the grasscutter in their hunting. To prove the activeness of these ingredients, the main ingredient used in formulating the poison to capture the grasscutters were tested on two male grasscutters and these were yellow oleander root (Cascabela thevetia; syn Thevetia peruviana) powder and carbofuran. The findings of the experimental trial revealed that the grasscutter that was fed with yellow oleander root powder did not die but showed some signs of intoxication and staggered each time it tried to move. However, the grasscutter fed with carbofuran died within 10 hr of being poisoned. Majority of the participants attested to the fact that the use of poison increases their chance of capturing the grasscutter, especially in the dry season since the poison is not washed away by the rainwater. However, consuming grasscutter poisoned with either yellow oleander root power or carbofuran could be detrimental to human health. © 2020 The Authors. The process presented in this article is a proof-of-concept of a continuous end-to-end monoclonal antibody production platform at a very small scale based on a 200 ml alternating tangential flow filtration perfusion bioreactor, integrated with the purification process with a model-based design and control. The downstream process, consisting of a periodic twin-column protein A capture, a virus inactivation, a CEX column and an AEX column, was compactly implemented in a single chromatography system, with a purification time of less than 4 hr. Monoclonal antibodies were produced for 17 days in a high cell density perfusion culture of CHO cells with titers up to 1.0 mg/ml. A digital twin of the downstream process was created by modelling all the chromatography steps.

To prove the activeness of these ingredients, the main ingredient used in formulating the poison to capture the grasscutters were tested on two male grasscutters and these were yellow oleander root (Cascabela thevetia; syn Thevetia peruviana) powder and carbofuran. The findings of the experimental trial revealed that the grasscutter that was fed with yellow oleander root powder did not die but showed some signs of intoxication and staggered each time it tried to move. However, the grasscutter fed with carbofuran died within 10 hr of being poisoned. Majority of the participants attested to the fact that the use of poison increases their chance of capturing the grasscutter, especially in the dry season since the poison is not washed away by the rainwater. However, consuming grasscutter poisoned with either yellow oleander root power or carbofuran could be detrimental to human health. © 2020 The Authors.   • Lipid acyl hydrolase are a diverse group of enzymes that hydrolyze the ester or amide bonds of fatty acid in plant lipids. Patatin-related phospholipase AIIIs (pPLAIIIs) are one of major lipid acyl hydrolases that are less closely related to potato tuber patatins and are plant-specific. The electrochemical device was specifically designed to be capable of autonomous calibration and data processing, switching between calibration, and measurement modes in particular, firstly, a baseline estimation algorithm is applied for correct peak computation, then calibration function is built by interpolating data with a four-parameter logistic function. The calibration function parameters are stored on the cloud for inverse prediction to determine the concentration of unknown samples. Interpolation function calibration and concentration evaluation are performed directly on-board, thus reducing the power consumption. The analytical device was validated in human serum, demonstrating good sensing performance for analysis of HE4 with detection and quantitation limits in human serum of 3.5 and 29.2 pM, respectively, reaching the sensitivity that is required for diagnostic purposes, with high potential for applications as portable and smart diagnostic tool for point-of-care testing.The objective of this study was to examine the effect of Mindkeys Training, a mindfulness-based educational intervention, on attention, self-control, and aggressiveness in third-year primary school pupils. In order to achieve this aim, a switching replications design was used. Two groups of third year primary students (nGE1 = 40; nGE2 = 33), aged between 7 and 10 years old (M = 8.08; DT = 0.49), had the intervention at different time points, such that while one served as the experimental group, the other served as the control group. Longitudinal differences were examined in both groups, and cross-sectional differences were examined between the two groups at three time points; at the start of the study, and following the intervention with each group. To that end, measurements of problems of attention, deficits of self-control, and aggressiveness for students were obtained via a teacher rating scale. The intervention program demonstrated a positive effect on the reduction of pupils' attention problems, deficits of self-control, and aggressiveness. The effects were greater on the cognitive variables that the intervention worked on directly (attention and self-control). Attention was the variable on which the intervention exhibited the longest term effects.In this study, expectancy-valence theory was used from the perspective of corporate green management to investigate green shared vision (GSV). Moreover, organizational identity theory and psychological ownership theory were combined to propose an integrated conceptual framework. To fill research gaps, an investigation was also conducted with frontline R & D and sales employees to further examine the effect of GSV on organization members' psychology and behavior. The research results indicate that when under the following circumstances, corporate members can enhance organizational citizenship behavior for the environment (OCBE) to improve green management performance, gain the favor of green consumers and achieve sustainable consumption goals. First, enterprises should focus on environmental issues and develop their GSV. Second, enterprises should implement the GSV in different aspects, such as product design, processing, marketing and management. Finally, corporate GSV should be in line with the expectations and values of organization members on environmental issues to motivate their OCBE.

The RU player development pathway has recently been questioned, regarding player performance and well-being, which sport science research can address. The purpose of this review was to summarise and critically appraise the literature in relation to the applied sport science of male age-grade RU players in England focussing upon (1) match-play characteristics, (2) training exposures, (3) physical qualities, (4) fatigue and recovery, (5) nutrition, (6) psychological challenges and development, and (7) injury. Current research evidence suggests that age, playing level and position influence the match-play characteristics of age-grade RU. Training exposures of players are described as 'organised chaos' due to the multiple environments and stakeholders involved in coordinating training schedules. Though sexual attraction and falling in love were strongly correlated, they were not synonymous. Participants who reported pedohebephilia (defined in this study as attraction to prepubescent and pubescent children) were more likely to have fallen in love with a child than participants who reported pedohebe-ephebophilia (defined as attraction to prepubescent, pubescent, and post-pubescent minors). Also, participants with an exclusive attraction to children were more likely to have fallen in love with a child than participants who were equally attracted to children and adults. The results of this study were consistent with the suggestion of Seto (2012) that pedohebephilia could be considered a form of sexual orientation for age, which includes both sexual and romantic attraction.HIV/STI disparities are highest among Black sexual minority men (BSMM) and Black transwomen (BTW) in the Deep South. Exploring the prevalence and correlates of rectal douching and enema use could provide insights into risk factors and HIV/STI prevention opportunities among these groups. This study explored the prevalence and correlates of rectal douching and enema using Poisson regression models among 375 BSMM and BTW in Jackson, MS, and Atlanta GA. Approximately 95% reported their gender as male/man; 5.6% self-identified as transwomen. Most reported being single (73.1%) and were unemployed (56.0%); 36.1% were previously diagnosed with HIV. In multivariable models, BSMM and BTW who reported that their typical sexual position during anal sex was "bottom" (aPR = 2.39, 95% CI = 1.48, 3.84) or "versatile" (aPR = 2.46, 95% CI = 1.44, 4.17) had a higher prevalence of rectal douching and enema use than those who reported "top." Deeper understanding of the contexts of rectal douching, enema use, and sexual positioning practices is needed.The purpose of this study was to investigate the tensile bond strength (TBS) and shear bond strength (SBS) between a zirconia core and fluoroapatite-pressed ceramic after the application of glass 46SP6 and AP40 via the ISO-170952013 methodology. Sintered zirconia beams (n = 120) were divided into four groups (a) control no treatment; (b) ZirL IPS-E max ceram ZirLiner coating; (c) glass AP40 coating; and (d) glass 46SP6 coating. A fluoroapatite ceramic (IPS e.max Zir Press, Ivoclar Vivadent) beam was injected perpendicularly on top of each zirconia (Zenostar, Wieland Dental) beam forming a cross-bonded specimen. All groups were sub-divided into two for tensile and shear bond strength tests using a universal testing machine. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis, Pearson Chi2, and Mann-Whitney U test (α = 0.05). The failure modes were measured using a stereomicroscope for each group. Scanning electron and atomic force microscopy were also employed. Zirconia surface modification with glass AP40 showed higher TBS values followed by the ZirL group with statistical differences (p  less then  0.05). SBS values showed no statistical differences between the groups. AFM analysis showed higher roughness values (Ra) in the 46SP6 and AP40 groups (p  less then  0.05). Glass coating AP40 exhibited promising bond strength results between zirconia and fluorapatite veneering ceramic, making it better for chemical and mechanical interlocking which may improve bilayered restorations longevity.Since early studies about aquatic ecology, it has been found that changes in environmental conditions alter aquatic insect communities. Based on this, the combined study of environmental conditions and aquatic insect communities has become an important tool to monitor and manage freshwater systems. However, there is no consensus about which environmental predictors and facets of diversity are more useful for environmental monitoring. The objective of this work was to conduct a scientometric analysis to identify the main environmental predictors and biological groups used to monitor and manage lotic freshwater systems. We conducted a scientometric study on the Web of Science platform using the following words stream, river, aquatic insect, Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, Trichoptera, Odonata, Heteroptera, Chironomidae, bioindicator, environmental change, anthropic, and land use. Although most of the environmental predictors employed are local, intrinsic of freshwater systems using local environmental and associated landscape variables is a better strategy to predict aquatic insect communities.
