Cognitive function and depression impact critically the daily functioning of menopausal women. This study aimed to explore the mediating and moderating effects of depressive symptoms on the association between cognitive function and activities of daily living (ADL) difficulty in postmenopausal women.
A total of 2,596 postmenopausal women from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study completed the Chinese version of the Mini-Mental State Examination, basic ADL (BADL) and instrumental ADL (IADL) scales, and 10-item Short-Form Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression. We constructed structural equation modeling to examine the association between cognitive function, depressive symptoms, and BADL/IADL difficulty.
The prevalence of BADL/IADL difficulty in postmenopausal women was 22.5% and 31.5%, respectively. After adjustments for demographic and health-related covariates, cognitive decline (contributed by four cognitive dimensions with different weights) was significantly associated with BADLe to changes in cognitive function. More strength should be put on developing comprehensive intervention techniques focusing on simultaneous intervention of multidimensional cognitive function and depression to maintain and improve the quality of life of postmenopausal women.

The purpose of this article is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of prestenting (PS) versus non-PS (NPS) of flexible ureteroscopy (fURS) to treat large upper urinary stones.
We conducted a systematic literature research of PubMed, Ovid, Scopus (up to August 2019), and citation lists to identify eligible studies. All studies comparing PS versus NPS of fURS were included. Data were analyzed using the Cochrane Collaboration's Review Manager (RevMan) 5.3 software.
Overall, 7 studies including 3,145 patients (PS 1,408; NPS 1,737) were included in this article. PS group was associated with older age (weighted mean difference [WMD] 0.91 year; p < 0.001) and more male patients (odds ratio [OR] 1.34; p < 0.001). There were no statistical differences between PS and NPS in BMI (WMD 0.34 kg/m2; p = 0.13), stone size (WMD 0.13 mm; p = 0.77), and operative time (WMD 0.44 min; p = 0.86). Compared with NPS, PS showed better initial success rate (OR 4.04; p < 0.001) and higher SFR (OR 1.64; p < 0.001). There were no statistical differences for complications (OR 0.84; p = 0.42) and Clavien-Dindo score ≥3 complications (OR 1.04; p = 0.93).
PS could improve initial success rate and avoid secondary general anesthesia for first ureteral access sheath failed patients. PS could provide better SFR than NPS in the treatment of large upper urinary stones with fURS.

Faced with changes in cytodiagnostics, cervical cancer screening programs, the introduction and application of new methods, the cytotechnological educational program requires the necessary changes and additions. Insufficient, uneven as well as inaccessible education of cytotechnologists in European countries was the basis for making these recommendations.
The results of previous research and publications related to the currently available education of cytotechnologists in Europe, the needs and suggestions were given by the European Advisory Committee of Cytotechnology (EACC) and European Federation of Cytology Societies (EFCS) for optimal education of future generations of cytotechnologists were used in the preparation of these recommendations. The EACC and EFCS propose a 1-year education and training program divided into 3 modules gynecological, nongynecological exfoliative, and fine-needle aspiration cytology. Training programs should be organized by an accredited university, preferably a combination ofommendations. However, additional randomized, controlled studies are needed to demonstrate its efficacy, safety, and impact on CBD stenosis.BACKGROUND Life expectancy acts as a population measure of the performance of healthcare systems. Regional disparities on life expectancy in Indonesia has been persisted and become a public health policy challenge. A systematic clustering of provinces can be a valuable alternative for organizing cooperation that aimed to increase life expectancy and reduce disparities. This study aimed to identify determinants of life expectancy and designate clusters of Indonesian provinces with similar characteristics. This approach can be useful in generating alternative cooperation strategies to improve life expectancy. METHODS We carefully selected variables that have been shown to impact life expectancy and gathered 2015 data from Indonesia's Ministry of Health. All 34 Indonesian provinces were included as analysis units. We performed structural equation modeling (SEM) to select domains that needed to work on from theoretical models. Based on SEM results, we performed cluster analysis to arrange cooperation groups. RESULTS Life expectancy showed correlations with mean years of schooling, expenditure per capita, health workforce, healthcare facilities, and environment. Expenditure per capita also was the strongest of all constructs. Based on SEM results, we performed cluster analysis to arrange cooperation groups of total 34 provinces and generated five clusters of provinces. CONCLUSIONS Enhancing the economy is the most effective approach for improving life expectancy and other constructs. These clusters can build cooperation that is new, within, and across clusters. These results may be useful in formulating cooperation strategies aimed at increasing life expectancy.BACKGROUND Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder featuring the behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia. Patients with early-onset AD that exhibits first as psychotic symptoms usually lack obvious cognitive impairment, so they may be misdiagnosed with late-onset schizophrenia. CASE PRESENTATION We report a patient who had prominent psychotic symptoms at the age of 60 and was initially diagnosed with very-late-onset-schizophrenia-like psychosis. Psychotic symptoms disappeared rapidly after treatment with olanzapine, and the patient later showed extrapyramidal symptoms and decline in cognitive function. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed frontotemporal atrophy, and positron emission tomography (PET) showed extensive areas of hypometabolism in the frontal cortex and head of the caudate nucleus. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/azd5363.html The patient's SORL1 gene was found to carry a heterozygrous mutation (c.296A > G). The patient was eventually diagnosed with early-onset AD. We include the staff of the participating emergency medical service stations aal communication tool to overcome language barriers in emergency medical services and investigating its usability, acceptance, and effect on communication, in short, its usefulness and value for paramedic care. Participants were asked questions on their concern about vitamin D levels, testing, and supplementation practices. Knowledge was examined using questions about food sources, health benefits and factors affecting vitamin D production within the human body. Of the 900 eligible students invited to participate, 505 (56%) completed the questionnaire and were included in the analysis. RESULTS Only 9% participants were able to identify the correct food sources of vitamin D, 33% were aware of the bone health benefits (bone health and calcium absorption) of vitamin D and 36% identified sunlight exposure as a factor influencing vitamin D productig health-policy recommendations for this vulnerable population group.BACKGROUND The health of forcibly displaced individuals changes along their migration path and estimates of disease burden are essential to develop health care policies and practices adequately corresponding to their health care needs. This study aims to describe the health status and use of medication among Syrian refugees in two different migration phases in a transit setting and in a recipient country. Further, we aim to investigate the associations between migration related exposures and both chronic pain and mental health among Syrian refugees. METHODS This is a cross-sectional study based on survey data collected among 827 adult Syrian refugees in Lebanon and Norway during 2017-2018. The survey instrument included items measuring somatic status (including chronic pain), mental health (using the HSCL-10 and HTQ items), use of medication and migration related exposures. We used descriptive statistics to calculate standardised prevalence proportions and regression analyses to study associations between migration related exposures and health outcomes.

In this paper, we propose chaotic compressive sensing (CS) encryption algorithms for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing passive optical network (OFDM-PON), aiming at compressing the transmitted data and enhancing the security of data transmission. Bitstream transmission using CS directly is restricted due to its inability to satisfy the sparsity in neither time nor frequency domain. While the sparsity of the transmitted data can be constructed when transmitting the multimedia. A sensor can be then used to identify whether the data is multimedia. If it is, the CS technique is used, and the sensor's result is set as side information inserted into the pilot and transmitted to the terminal simultaneously. For encryption processing, a 2-dimensional logistic-sine-coupling map (2D-LSCM) is used to generate pseudo-random numbers to construct the first row of a measurement matrix to encrypt the system. Four transform formats are then applied to generate the sparsity of the transmitted data. Due to the restriction of data transmission in the physical layer, the discrete cosine transform (DCT) is chosen to conduct the CS technique. Four approximation algorithms are also proposed to optimize the performance of compressing the length of bits. We find that 'Round + Set negative to 0' shows the best performance. Basic RAN functions, mobile front-haul to the backbone and interconnected front-end remote radio units, must support and enable data rate surges, low-latency applications, RF coordination, etc. Wavelength division multiplexed optical access networks (WDM-OANs) provide sufficient network capacity to support the addition of RAN services, especially in unused portions of WDM. We propose and demonstrate a method for RAN overlay in WDM-OANs that employ distributed carriers. In such systems, the carrier is modulated at the central office for direct-detected downstream digital data services; later the same carrier is remodulated for the uplink. We propose the use of silicon photonics to intercept the downstream and add 5G signals. We examine the distributed-carrier power budget issues in this overlay scenario. The carrier power must be harvested for direct detection of both digital and RoF services, and yet hold in reserve sufficient power for the uplink remodulation of all services. We concentrate on the silicon photonics subsystem at the remote node to add RoF signals. We demonstrate the overlay with a fabricated chip and study strategic allocations of carrier power at the optical network units housing the radio units to support the overlay. In this paper, we propose chaotic compressive sensing (CS) encryption algorithms for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing passive optical network (OFDM-PON), aiming at compressing the transmitted data and enhancing the security of data transmission. Bitstream transmission using CS directly is restricted due to its inability to satisfy the sparsity in neither time nor frequency domain. While the sparsity of the transmitted data can be constructed when transmitting the multimedia. A sensor can be then used to identify whether the data is multimedia. If it is, the CS technique is used, and the sensor's result is set as side information inserted into the pilot and transmitted to the terminal simultaneously. For encryption processing, a 2-dimensional logistic-sine-coupling map (2D-LSCM) is used to generate pseudo-random numbers to construct the first row of a measurement matrix to encrypt the system. Four transform formats are then applied to generate the sparsity of the transmitted data. Due to the restriction of data transmission in the physical layer, the discrete cosine transform (DCT) is chosen to conduct the CS technique. Four approximation algorithms are also proposed to optimize the performance of compressing the length of bits. We find that 'Round + Set negative to 0' shows the best performance. Basic RAN functions, mobile front-haul to the backbone and interconnected front-end remote radio units, must support and enable data rate surges, low-latency applications, RF coordination, etc. Wavelength division multiplexed optical access networks (WDM-OANs) provide sufficient network capacity to support the addition of RAN services, especially in unused portions of WDM. We propose and demonstrate a method for RAN overlay in WDM-OANs that employ distributed carriers. In such systems, the carrier is modulated at the central office for direct-detected downstream digital data services; later the same carrier is remodulated for the uplink. We propose the use of silicon photonics to intercept the downstream and add 5G signals. We examine the distributed-carrier power budget issues in this overlay scenario. The carrier power must be harvested for direct detection of both digital and RoF services, and yet hold in reserve sufficient power for the uplink remodulation of all services. We concentrate on the silicon photonics subsystem at the remote node to add RoF signals. We demonstrate the overlay with a fabricated chip and study strategic allocations of carrier power at the optical network units housing the radio units to support the overlay. Genetic testing can determine family screening strategies and has prognostic and diagnostic value in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). However, it can also pose a significant psychosocial burden. Conventional scoring systems offer modest ability to predict genotype positivity. The aim of our study was to develop a novel prediction model for genotype positivity in patients with HCM by applying machine learning (ML) algorithms.
We constructed 3 ML models using readily available clinical and cardiac imaging data of 102 patients from Columbia University with HCM who had undergone genetic testing (the training set). We validated model performance on 76 patients with HCM from Massachusetts General Hospital (the test set). Within the test set, we compared the area under the receiver operating characteristic curves (AUROCs) for the ML models against the AUROCs generated by the Toronto HCM Genotype Score (the Toronto score) and Mayo HCM Genotype Predictor (the Mayo score) using the Delong test and net reclassificodels demonstrated a superior ability to predict genotype positivity in patients with HCM compared with conventional scoring systems in an external validation test set.[Figure see text].Objectives This study aimed to compare the efficacy of methylphenidate and atomoxetine on improving executive functions among children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Results We found that both treatment groups showed improvement in executive functions (p-value less then 0.05 for the major indices of each domain). We hypothesize that patients who undergo conservative surgery will have a longer survival time without recurrence of foot ulcers and further amputations than those who undergo any type of amputation to treat DFO. We assessed a retrospective cohort of 108 patients who underwent surgery for DFO from January 2011 to December 2012. Patients were followed-up until May 2020. Reulceration and reamputation-free survival times were plotted using the Kaplan-Meier method and were calculated from the date of first surgery to recurrence, new amputation, or end of the study. A stratified log rank was used to study differences among groups. Cumulative survival without recurrences at 1, 5, and 8 years was 95%, 36%, and 29%, respectively, in patients who underwent conservative surgery and 95%, 43%, and 30%, respectively, in those undergoing amputation. Cumulative survival without a new amputation at 1, 5, and 8 years was 100%, 80%, and 80%, respectively, in patients who underwent conservative surgery and 98%, 82%, and 69%, respectively, in those undergoing amputation. No differences were found regarding either recurrence (log rank, P = .98) or new amputations (log rank, P = .64). In conclusion, conservative surgery is as safe as amputation to arrest bone infection in the feet of patients with diabetes. Conservative surgery was not associated with a lower rate of recurrence and new amputations than those patients who underwent amputations.We assessed renal and metabolic changes associated with switching from tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF)- to tenofovir alafenamide (TAF)-containing regimens among patients with HIV at the Maple Leaf Medical Clinic, Toronto, Canada. Using an electronic medical records retrospective chart review from July 2005 to December 2019, 651 patients aged ≥16 years taking TDF-containing regimens for ≥6 months who switched to TAF-containing regimens for ≥6 months were included. Change in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was examined at 12-month follow-up. Secondary outcomes included change in urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio, serum phosphate, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), cholesterol markers, HbA1C, and weight. After 12 months, eGFR increased in 63% of the baseline eGFR 90 mL/min/1.73 m2 group (-7.2 [11.2], p less then 0.001). The multivariable generalized estimating equations model showed a significant reduction in eGFR after 12 months. Advanced age, HCV coinfection, and being switched to or on integrase inhibitors were significantly associated with reduced eGFR. Among secondary outcomes, ALP significantly decreased, while high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, and weight significantly increased. Our findings suggest that TDF-to-TAF switching was beneficial for those with preexisting renal impairment (eGFR less then 60 mL/min/1.73 m2).

NCT00916786).Conservative surgery of diabetic foot osteomyelitis (DFO) in which bone infection is removed without amputation could minimize the biomechanical changes associated with foot surgery. We hypothesize that patients who undergo conservative surgery will have a longer survival time without recurrence of foot ulcers and further amputations than those who undergo any type of amputation to treat DFO. We assessed a retrospective cohort of 108 patients who underwent surgery for DFO from January 2011 to December 2012. Patients were followed-up until May 2020. Reulceration and reamputation-free survival times were plotted using the Kaplan-Meier method and were calculated from the date of first surgery to recurrence, new amputation, or end of the study. A stratified log rank was used to study differences among groups. Cumulative survival without recurrences at 1, 5, and 8 years was 95%, 36%, and 29%, respectively, in patients who underwent conservative surgery and 95%, 43%, and 30%, respectively, in those undergoing amputation. Cumulative survival without a new amputation at 1, 5, and 8 years was 100%, 80%, and 80%, respectively, in patients who underwent conservative surgery and 98%, 82%, and 69%, respectively, in those undergoing amputation. No differences were found regarding either recurrence (log rank, P = .98) or new amputations (log rank, P = .64). In conclusion, conservative surgery is as safe as amputation to arrest bone infection in the feet of patients with diabetes. Conservative surgery was not associated with a lower rate of recurrence and new amputations than those patients who underwent amputations.We assessed renal and metabolic changes associated with switching from tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF)- to tenofovir alafenamide (TAF)-containing regimens among patients with HIV at the Maple Leaf Medical Clinic, Toronto, Canada. Using an electronic medical records retrospective chart review from July 2005 to December 2019, 651 patients aged ≥16 years taking TDF-containing regimens for ≥6 months who switched to TAF-containing regimens for ≥6 months were included. Change in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) was examined at 12-month follow-up. Secondary outcomes included change in urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio, serum phosphate, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), cholesterol markers, HbA1C, and weight. After 12 months, eGFR increased in 63% of the baseline eGFR 90 mL/min/1.73 m2 group (-7.2 [11.2], p less then 0.001). The multivariable generalized estimating equations model showed a significant reduction in eGFR after 12 months. Advanced age, HCV coinfection, and being switched to or on integrase inhibitors were significantly associated with reduced eGFR. Among secondary outcomes, ALP significantly decreased, while high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, and weight significantly increased. Given the sudden infection from and extensive dispersion of COVID-19 and the absence of specific drugs, those infected are in danger if they are not treated in time. Consequently, COVID-19 has become an important factor influencing adolescents' mental health. The purpose of this study is to explore the intervention effect of the integration model on the negative emotions of adolescents during the COVID-19 epidemic.
Adolescents were randomly selected from five middle schools in Zhejiang Province of China from May 2020 to July 2020. First, the Self-rating Anxiety Scale, Positive and Negative Affect Scale, and Psychological Well-Being Scale were used for measurement. Then, 72 patients with moderate and severe anxiety symptoms were chosen as the research objects, and the intervention and comparison time was determined to be eight weeks. In this study, prevalence of anxiety, depression and type of personality was investigated in 362 cases divided into three groups 112 of IBD patients, 122 of peptic ulcer patients and 128 of control group who didn't have any gastrointestinal or psychic complaints. IBD and peptic ulcer diagnosis were established by standard diagnostic procedures (anamnesis, clinical manifestations, laboratory, endoscopy and biopsy in IBD and upper endoscopy in peptic ulcer). Anxiety and depression were established by Hamilton anxiety rating scale (HAM-A) and Hamilton rating test for depression (HAM-D). Type of A/B personality was established by Bortner scale and D type of personality by Denollet scale (DS14).

In this study, we elucidated the role of DagR in regulating the expression of three agarase genes (dagA, dagB, and dagC) in S. coelicolor A3(2) by developing a dagR-deletion mutant (Δsco3485). We observed that the Δsco3485 mutant had increased mRNA level of the agarolytic pathway genes and 1.3-folds higher agarase production than the wild type strain, indicating that the dagR gene encodes a cluster-suited repressor. Electrophoretic mobility shift assay revealed that DagR bound to the upstream regions of the three agarase genes. DNase 1 footprinting analysis demonstrated that a palindromic sequence present in the upstream region of the three agarase genes was essential for DagR-binding. Uniquely, the DNA-binding activity of DagR was inhibited by AHG, one of the final degradation products of agarose. AHG-induced agarase production was not observed in the Δsco3485 mutant, as opposed to that in the wild type strain. Under those conditions, our SILAC analysis revealed several proteins that were differentially phosphorylated in the ΔyeaG strain. By focusing on metabolic enzymes potentially involved in central carbon metabolism, we narrowed down our search for putative YeaG substrates and identified isocitrate lyase AceA as the direct substrate of YeaG. The cross-protection assay indicated that the antisera of previous strains had no inhibitory effect on recent variants. Finally, mutations at amino acids 353-363, 373-384, 394-404, and 444-454 had the greatest impact on cross-reactivity. Accurate waste classification is key to successful waste management. However, most current studies have focused exclusively on single-label waste classification from images, which goes against common sense. In this paper, we move beyond single-label waste classification and propose a benchmark for evaluating the multi-label waste classification and localization tasks to advance waste management via deep learning-based methods. We propose a multi-task learning architecture (MTLA) based on a convolutional neural network, which can be used to simultaneously identify and locate wastes in images. The MTLA comprises a backbone network with proposed attention modules, a novel multi-level feature pyramid network, and a group of joint learning multi-task subnets. To achieve joint optimization of waste identification and location, we designed the loss functions according to the concepts of focusing and joint. The proposed MTLA achieved performance similar to that of experts and had high scores for multiple tasks related to waste management. Its F1 score exceeded 95.50% (95.12% to 95.88%, with a 95% confidence interval) on the multi-label waste classification task, and the average precision score was over 81.50% (@IoU = 0.5) on the waste localization task. To improve interpretation, heatmaps were used to visualize the salient features extracted by the MTLA. The previously undescribed compounds isolated were subsequently screened against the HeLa (human cervical cancer), MIA PaCa-2 (human pancreatic adenocarcinoma) and A549 (lung cancer) cell lines. Among the isolated compounds, 3,5-diprenyl indole was the most cytotoxic across all three cell lines (MIA PaCa-2 IC50 = 9.5 ± 2.2 μM). Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) provides an essential contribution in the screening, detection, diagnosis, staging, treatment and follow-up in patients with a neurological neoplasm. Deep learning (DL), a subdomain of artificial intelligence has the potential to enhance the characterization, processing and interpretation of MRI images. The aim of this review paper is to give an overview of the current state-of-art usage of DL in MRI for neuro-oncology.
We reviewed the Pubmed database by applying a specific search strategy including the combination of MRI, DL, neuro-oncology and its corresponding search terminologies, by focussing on Medical Subject Headings (Mesh) or title/abstract appearance. The original research papers were classified based on its application, into three categories technological innovation, diagnosis and follow-up.
Forty-one publications were eligible for review, all were published after the year 2016. The majority (N=22) was assigned to technological innovation, twelve had a focus oand the validation and implementation of these technologies in clinical practise.Natural infections of Plasmodium falciparum, the parasite responsible for the deadliest form of human malaria, often comprise multiple parasite lineages (haplotypes). Multiclonal parasite isolates may exhibit variable phenotypes including different drug susceptibility profiles over time due to the presence of multiple haplotypes. To test this hypothesis, three P. falciparum Cambodian isolates IPC_3445 (MRA-1236), IPC_5202 (MRA-1240) and IPC_6403 (MRA-1285) suspected to be multiclonal were cloned by limiting dilution, and the resulting clones genotyped at 24 highly polymorphic single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). Isolates harbored up to three constituent haplotypes, and exhibited significant variability (p less then 0.05) in susceptibility to chloroquine, mefloquine, artemisinin and piperaquine as measured by half maximal drug inhibitory concentration (IC50) assays and parasite survival assays, which measure viability following exposure to pharmacologically relevant concentrations of antimalarial drugs. The IC50 of the most abundant haplotype frequently reflected that of the uncloned parental isolate, suggesting that a single haplotype dominates the antimalarial susceptibility profile and masks the effect of minor frequency haplotypes. These results indicate that phenotypic variability in parasite isolates is often due to the presence of multiple haplotypes. Depending on intended end-use, clinical isolates should be cloned to yield single parasite lineages with well-defined phenotypes and genotypes. The availability of such standardized clonal parasite lineages through NIAID's BEI Resources program will aid research directed towards the development of diagnostics and interventions including drugs against malaria.

Autophagy regulates chief salvaging events for protein clustering, excessive triglycerides, and impaired mitochondria which is accompanied by oxidative and genotoxic stress in mammals. Autophagy is a homeostatic event, which regulates biological process by eliminating lethal cells and reprocessing physiological constituents, comprising of proteins and fat. Unquestionably, autophagy impairment is involved in metabolic syndromes, like obesity. According to an individual's metabolic outline, autophagy activation is essential for metabolism and activity of the adipose tissue and to retard metabolic syndrome i.e. obesity. The manuscript summarizes the perception of current knowledge on autophagy stimulation and its effect on the obesity.Amino acid sequences in metal-binding proteins with chelating properties offer exciting applications in biotechnology and medical research. To enhance their application in bioremediation studies, we explicitly aimed to identify specific metal-binding chelating motifs in protein structures for two significant pollutants, such as mercury (Hg2+) and chromium Cr(V1). For this purpose, we have performed an extensive coordination chemistry approach by retrieving Hg2+ and Cr(V1) binding protein structures from the protein database and validated using the B-factor, a term defining uncertainty of the atoms and with occupancy to obtain the best binding motifs. Our analysis revealed that acidic amino acids like aspartic acid, glutamic acid, and basic amino acids such as cysteine and histidine are predominant in coordinating with these metals. The order of preference in Hg2+-bound structures is predicted to be Cys > His > Asp > Glu, and for Cr(V1) is His > Asp > Glu. Examination of the atomic coordinates and their distance from each metal revealed that the sulfur atoms of cysteine showing more preference towards Hg2+coordination with an atomic distance ranging from 1.5 to 2.9 Å. Likewise, oxygen atoms of aspartic acid, glutamic acid and nitrogen atoms of histidine are within 2 Å of Cr(V1) coordination. Based on these observations, we obtained C-C-C, C-X(2)-C-C-(X)2-C, H-C-H motifs for Hg2+, and D-X(1)-D, H-X(3)-E motif for Cr(V1) to be shared within the coordination space of 3 Å. As a future scope, we propose that the identified metal-binding chelating motifs are oligopeptides and can display on the surface of microorganisms such as Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae for effective removal of natural Hg2+ and Cr(V1) through biosorption. Hence, our results will provide the basis for futuristic bioremediation.
This study aimed to compare the efficiency regarding postoperative pain control, consumption of rescue drug, patients' satisfaction and the safety of preoperative analgesia versus postoperative analgesia using non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in patients who received arthroscopic knee surgery (AKS).
Four hundred and sixty-four patients who received AKS were recruited in this multicenter, randomized, controlled study. Subsequently, they were randomized into PRE group (N = 232) and POST group (N = 232). In PRE group, patients received celecoxib, meloxicam or rofecoxib from 2h pre-operation (Pre (- 2h)) to 48h post-operation for analgesia. In POST group, patients received celecoxib, meloxicam or rofecoxib from 4 to 48h post-operation for analgesia.

However, the role of STC2 in the regulation of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) remains poorly understood. In this study, we investigated the regulatory function of STC2 on epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and glycolysis traits in NPC and revealed the underlying molecular mechanisms. We found that STC2 was highly expressed in primary nasopharyngeal carcinoma tissues and lymph node metastatic tissues. Silencing of STC2 inhibited cell proliferation, invasion, and glycolysis. Further analyses for the clinical samples demonstrated that STC2 expression was associated with the poor clinical progression. Moreover, we demonstrated the interaction of ITGB2 with STC2 and its involvement in STC2-mediated ITGB2/FAK/SOX6 axis. Collectively, our results provide new insights into understanding the regulatory mechanism of STC2 and suggest that the STC2/ITGB2/FAK/SOX6 signaling axis may be a potential therapeutic target for NPC.

According to the results, by using sugars commonly found in lignocellulosic biomass as carbon sources (glucose, arabinose and xylose), no significant differences were observed in the production of EPS, reaching 3.39g/L, 3.33g/L and 3.27g/L, respectively. Differences were observed in monosaccharide composition, mainly in relation to rhamnose and glucuronic acid contents (1.8 times higher when arabinose was compared with xylose). However, the biopolymers showed no differences in relation to rheological properties, with EPS aqueous-based suspensions (1.0%w/v) presenting pseudoplastic behavior, and a slight difference in degradation temperatures. Using soybean hulls hydrolysate as carbon source, slightly higher values were obtained (3.93g/L).
The results indicate the potential of the use of lignocellulosic hydrolysates containing these sugars as a source of carbon in the cultivation of Mesorhizobium sp.

The ideal surgical management of grade I lumbar spondylolisthesis has not been determined despite extensive prior investigations. In this cohort study, the authors used data from the large, multicenter, prospectively collected Quality Outcomes Database to bridge the gap between the findings in previous randomized trials and those in a more heterogeneous population treated in a typical practice. The objective was to assess the difference in patient-reported outcomes among patients undergoing decompression alone or decompression plus fusion.

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is an established treatment for pediatric dystonia. The accuracy of electrode implantation is multifactorial and remains a challenge in this age group, mainly due to smaller anatomical targets in very young patients compared to adults, and also due to anatomical abnormalities frequently associated with some etiologies of dystonia. Data on the accuracy of robot-assisted DBS surgery in children are limited. The aim of the current paper was to assess the accuracy of robot-assisted implantation of DBS leads in a series of patients with childhood-onset dystonia.
Forty-five children with dystonia undergoing implantation of DBS leads under general anesthesia between 2017 and 2019 were included. Robot-assisted stereotactic implantation of the DBS leads was performed. The final position of the electrodes was verified with an intraoperative 3D scanner (O-arm). Coordinates of the planned electrode target and actual electrode position were obtained and compared, looking at the radial errolearning curve. No major perioperative complications occurred.

In view of the decisive role of the placenta during intrauterine fetal development, Graham J. Burton, an expert in placentology from the University of Cambridge, formally proposed the theory of "placenta-derived chronic diseases" in 2018 based on embryonic-derived diseases [4]. In this review, we summarized the changes in placental morphology and structure, growth dynamics, imprinted and non-imprinted genes, and other aspects attributable to assisted reproduction technology. Our review provides a theoretical basis for further research on placental changes caused by assisted reproductive technology that are most strongly associated with an increased risk of neonatal long-term diseases.
Shigellosis is a major cause of moderate to severe diarrhoea and dysentery in children under 5 years of age in low and middle-income countries. The Flexyn2a vaccine conjugates the O-polysaccharide of Shigella flexneri 2a to Pseudomonas aeruginosa exotoxin A. We describe a Phase 2b proof-of-concept challenge study that evaluated safety, immunogenicity, and efficacy of the Flexyn2a vaccine to protect against shigellosis.
In this randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled trial, healthy adults were randomized 11 to receive Flexyn2a (10µg) or placebo intramuscularly, twice, 4 weeks apart, followed by challenge 4 weeks later with 1500 colony forming units (CFUs) of S. flexneri 2a strain 2457T. The primary outcome was vaccine-induced protection. S. flexneri 2a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-specific immune responses were assessed.
Sixty-seven subjects were enrolled, 34 received vaccine and 33 placebo. The vaccine was well tolerated; the majority of adverse events were mild in nature. Thirty vaccinees and 29 placesevere illness after Shigella challenge and is a promising Shigella vaccine construct. The ideal surgical management of grade I lumbar spondylolisthesis has not been determined despite extensive prior investigations. In this cohort study, the authors used data from the large, multicenter, prospectively collected Quality Outcomes Database to bridge the gap between the findings in previous randomized trials and those in a more heterogeneous population treated in a typical practice. The objective was to assess the difference in patient-reported outcomes among patients undergoing decompression alone or decompression plus fusion. The primary outcome measure was change in 24-month Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) scores. The minimal clinically important difference (MCID) in ODI score change and 30% change in ODI score at 24 months were also evaluated.
