Several researches have revealed the significant role of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in fat deposition while the precise regulatory mechanism is still largely elusive. In this study, we investigated the lncRNA profiles of adipose and muscle tissues in buffalo by using the Illumina HiSeq 3000 platform. In total, 43,809 lncRNAs were finally identified based on the computer algorithm. A comparison analysis revealed 241 lncRNAs that are differentially expressed (DE) in adipose and muscle tissues. We focused on lncSAMM50, a DE lncRNA that has a high expression in adipose tissue. Sequence alignment showed that lncSAMM50 is transcribed from the antisense strand of the upstream region of sorting and assembly machinery component 50 homolog (SAMM50), a gene involved in the function of mitochondrion and is subsequently demonstrated to inhibit the adipogenic differentiation of 3T3-L1 adipocyte cells in this study. lncSAMM50 is highly expressed in adipose tissue and upregulated in the mature adipocytes and mainly exists in the nucleus. Gain-of-function experiments demonstrated that lncSAMM50 promotes the adipogenic differentiation by upregulating adipogenic markers but with no effect on its host gene SAMM50 in buffalo adipocytes. These results indicate that lncSAMM50 enhances fat deposition in buffalo and provide a new factor for the regulatory network of adipogenesis.

The study provides insights into understanding the function of AnSnRK2s.With recent clinical breakthroughs, immunotherapy has become the fourth pillar of cancer treatment. Particularly, immune cell-based therapies have been envisioned as a promising treatment option with curative potential for leukemia patients. Hence, an increasing number of preclinical and clinical studies focus on various approaches of immune cell-based therapy for treatment of acute leukemia (AL). However, the use of different immune cell lineages and subsets against different types of leukemia and patient disease statuses challenge the interpretation of the clinical applicability and outcome of immune cell-based therapies. This review aims to provide an overview on recent approaches using various immune cell-based therapies against acute B-, T-, and myeloid leukemias. Further, the apparent limitations observed and potential approaches to overcome these limitations are discussed.Supplementation with [6S]-5-methyltetrahydrofolic acid (MTHF) is recommended as an alternative to folic acid (FA) in prenatal supplements. This study compared equimolar gestational FA and MTHF diets on energy regulation of female offspring. Wistar rats were fed an AIN-93G diet with recommended (2 mg/kg diet) or 5-fold (5X) intakes of MTHF or FA. At weaning, female offspring were fed a 45% fat diet until 19 weeks. The 5X-MTHF offspring had higher body weight (>15%), food intake (8%), light-cycle energy expenditure, and lower activity compared to 5X-FA offspring (p less then 0.05). Both the 5X offspring had higher plasma levels of the anorectic hormone leptin at birth (60%) and at 19 weeks (40%), and lower liver weight and total liver lipids compared to the 1X offspring (p less then 0.05). Hypothalamic mRNA expression of leptin receptor (ObRb) was lower, and of suppressor of cytokine signaling-3 (Socs3) was higher in the 5X-MTHF offspring (p less then 0.05), suggesting central leptin dysregulation. In contrast, the 5X-FA offspring had higher expression of genes encoding for dopamine and GABA- neurotransmitter receptors (p less then 0.01), consistent with their phenotype and reduced food intake. When fed folate diets at the requirement level, no differences were found due to form in the offspring. We conclude that MTHF compared to FA consumed at high levels in the gestational diets program central and peripheral mechanisms to favour increased weight gain in the offspring. These pre-clinical findings caution against high gestational intakes of folates of either form and encourage clinical trials examining their long-term health effects when consumed during pregnancy.Vibration-Controlled Transient Elastography (VCTE) with Controlled Attenuation Parameter (CAP) is a widely used non-invasive technique for concomitant assessment of liver steatosis and fibrosis in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). We aimed to evaluate the level both of hepatic steatosis and fibrosis as well as the associated risk factors in patients referred to our unit with clinically suspected NAFLD or diagnosed by abdominal ultrasonography. Two hundred four patients were prospectively included in this study and assessed by VCTE with CAP. The final analysis included 181 patients with reliable liver stiffness measurements (LSMs) (53% female, mean age 57.62 ± 11.8 years and BMI 29.48 ± 4.85 kg/m2). According to the cut-off values for steatosis grading, there were 10 (5.5%) patients without steatosis (S0), 30 (16.6%) with mild (S1), 45 (24.9%) moderate (S2), and 96 (53%) severe (S3) steatosis. Based on LSM, there were 73 (40.3%) patients without fibrosis (F0), 42 (23.2%) with mild (F1), 32 (17.7%) significant (F2), 19 (10.5%) advanced (F3) fibrosis, and 15 (8.3%) with cirrhosis (F4). In addition, we found an association between several metabolic components and hepatic steatosis and fibrosis. Thus, in the multivariate analysis, higher BMI, fasting plasma glucose, triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and serum uric were associated with increased CAP. Furthermore, higher serum uric acid and alpha-fetoprotein together with lower platelets count and albumin levels were associated with increased LSM. In this study, we propose a novel method called LGDTI to predict DTIs based on large-scale graph representation learning. LGDTI can capture the local and global structural information of the graph. Specifically, the first-order neighbor information of nodes can be aggregated by the graph convolutional network (GCN); on the other hand, the high-order neighbor information of nodes can be learned by the graph embedding method called DeepWalk. Finally, the two kinds of feature are fed into the random forest classifier to train and predict potential DTIs. The results show that our method obtained area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) of 0.9455 and area under the precision-recall curve (AUPR) of 0.9491 under 5-fold cross-validation.   • All EBM samples tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 through real-time reverse transcriptase-PCR (RT-PCR). All the newborns were screened twice for presence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in their NPS, by RT-PCR. 2 of 51 neonates had COVID-19 infection after 24 hours of life. Caregivers of 37 of 50 alive neonates responded to follow-up via telephone. Except for minor feed intolerance in one (1 of 37) neonate, all neonates were reported well after 1 month of their age.

  • Delay in reporting foot symptoms in patients with diabetes to health-care professionals is said to be responsible for limb amputation. While reasons for these delays have been investigated elsewhere, they are not well documented in Nigeria. This study explored the causes of delayed presentation in a Nigerian sample of patients with diabetic foot ulcers.

    The study followed an explorative qualitative design in which the lived experience of eight participants with diabetes were explored. The participants completed in-depth interviews which were digitally audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim. Data were analysed thematically using deductive reasoning.

    The study identified four themes which included knowledge and awareness of foot challenges, risk perception, health seeking triggers and behaviours and competing priority as the factors responsible for delay in presentation of diabetic foot complications.

A systematic literature review was conducted on the experimental literature published up to April 2020. A total of 25 studies were included. Studies were evaluated on methodological quality, paradigm used, and level of evidence. The results showed that implicit paradigms are as effective as explicit paradigms in both groups of children. Studies are predominantly experimental in nature involving mostly upper limb aiming tasks. The few studies that were performed outside the lab (n = 5) suggest superior efficacy of the implicit paradigm. Methodological quality varied between studies and was not always of sufficient standard to allow conclusions. In particular, manipulation checks were only performed in 13 studies (52% of all studies), limiting conclusions. Further progress can be made by focussing on improving methodological quality through retention testing by the inclusion of a control group, by the inclusion of a manipulation check, and via assessment of relevant co-variables, such as working memory, age, and motor competence.Plants possess numerous secondary metabolites imparting flavor and aroma. Leaf extract of the plant was analyzed by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) technique. Biosynthetic pathways of signature aroma compounds were deduced utilizing bioinformatic databases and reviewing literatures. A rare fragrant biomolecule '2-n-Heptylcyclopentanone' and 22 other aroma impacting biomolecules were detected and functional attributes were deliberately scrutinized. Interactive biosynthetic pathway schemes for all the 23 aromatic metabolomes including proposal for probable origin of 2-n-Heptylcyclopentanone and six other biomolecules (Pentadecanal; Cis-9-Hexadecenal; 14-Heptadecenal; Octadecanal; Undecane and 1-Decyne) with no previous biosynthesis report; out of a total of 47 GC-MS revealed metabolites were designed.     To assess differences in the recognition of facial expressions of emotion among caregivers of older people with different levels of empathy.

    A cross-sectional study was conducted with 158 caregivers of older adults who provided care in family residences or nursing homes. The caregivers were divided into three groups based on the score of the multidimensional Interpersonal Reactivity Index "lower empathy", "intermediate empathy", and "higher empathy". Data collection involved the administration of a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Emotion Recognition Test, and the Patient Health Questionnaire.

    No significant differences were found among the groups in terms of sociodemographic variables. Regarding clinical characteristics, the "higher empathy" group had more depressive symptoms than the other groups (
    = .001). Moreover, the "higher empathy" group exhibited greater accuracy at recognizing the expression of sadness than the "lower empathy" group (

To contribute to filling this gap, the current study evaluates the ethical DTCA of prescription drugs using Pfizer's Lipitor ad, which because of public outcry, was terminated shortly after it was launched. The study concludes that what may be legal may not necessarily be ethical. Thus marketing decision marketers must expand their focus group testing of DTCAs to include assessment of their ethics.

To reduce the health risks, it is necessary to consider the strategy of the utilization of OBDCRs, the working time, and the service life of the recycled OBDCRs and establish a legal standard and liability for the utilization of OBDCRs as solid waste resources.Akşehir district is one of the regions where significant agricultural production and industrial activities are carried out. Groundwater is the most important water resource in this region used for different purposes, especially for drinking and irrigation water. In order to ensure sustainable water management in the study area, it is necessary to reveal the drinking and irrigation water quality of groundwater and to take precautions and determine the management plans. In the present study, groundwater quality was evaluated using water quality index methods (WQI and IWQI) and statistical analyses to determine the sustainable and most appropriate usage of groundwater. In addition, spatial distribution maps were prepared using GIS for drinking and irrigation WQI assessments of the groundwater. A total of 31 groundwater samples were collected from wells in October 2018 and physicochemical analysis results were evaluated. According to the results obtained with the WQI method, all groundwater samples in the study anecessary to control agricultural activities in the region, to monitor the use of pesticides and fertilizers, and to encourage organic farming practices in the region.Portmán Bay in Southern Spain is one of the most extreme cases in Europe of anthropogenic impact on the marine ecosystem by the disposal of mine tailings resulting from the processing of sulphide ores. First, the composition and extent of the surficial deposit were investigated from geochemical and metal analysis on high spatial density of sediment samples. Then, a disturbance experiment was conducted in the coastal area off Portmán Bay in order to investigate the potential impact of mining activities on marine ecosystems. Two research vessels were used for that experiment, one performing as a trawler resuspending bottom sediments while the other monitor the behaviour of turbid plumes thus generated and the evolution of their characteristics through time by using a range of acoustic and optical tools together with water and bottom sediment sampling for biogeochemical and metal analyses. The surficial part of the submarine extension of the mine tailings deposit is highly concentrated in As, Cd, Pb, Fe and Zn winest fraction remained in suspension thus increasing the metals/sediments concentration ratio. On the other hand, Cd and Zn concentrations in suspended particles did not change significantly over time, which is thought to be caused by the fast dissolution of such metals in seawater. Beyond waste dumping itself, the observed increase in some metals in marine particulate material could have a significant impact on the adjacent coastal ecosystems due to their toxicity above certain thresholds. The consequences of the resuspension experiment here presented can be extrapolated to the impact of seafloor mining activities leading to the resuspension of metal-rich particle plumes into the water column. The experimental set-up presented here may be further explored for investigating metal behaviour during seafloor mining activities.
    To investigate associations between histology and hepatic mechanical properties measured using multiparametric magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) in adults with known or suspected nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) without histologic fibrosis.

    This was a retrospective analysis of 88 adults who underwent 3T MR exams including hepatic MRE and MR imaging to estimate proton density fat fraction (MRI-PDFF) within 180 days of liver biopsy. Associations between MRE mechanical properties (mean shear stiffness (|G*|) by 2D and 3D MRE, and storage modulus (G'), loss modulus (G″), wave attenuation (α), and damping ratio (ζ) by 3D MRE) and histologic, demographic and anthropometric data were assessed.

    In univariate analyses, patients with lobular inflammation grade ≥ 2 had higher 2D |G*| and 3D G″ than those with grade ≤ 1 (p = 0.04). |G*| (both 2D and 3D), G', and G″ increased with age (rho = 0.25 to 0.31; p ≤ 0.03). In multivariable regression analyses, the association between inflammation grade ≥ 2 remat may help interpret MRE results, at least in patients with early-stage NAFLD.

To reduce the health risks, it is necessary to consider the strategy of the utilization of OBDCRs, the working time, and the service life of the recycled OBDCRs and establish a legal standard and liability for the utilization of OBDCRs as solid waste resources.Akşehir district is one of the regions where significant agricultural production and industrial activities are carried out. Groundwater is the most important water resource in this region used for different purposes, especially for drinking and irrigation water. In order to ensure sustainable water management in the study area, it is necessary to reveal the drinking and irrigation water quality of groundwater and to take precautions and determine the management plans. In the present study, groundwater quality was evaluated using water quality index methods (WQI and IWQI) and statistical analyses to determine the sustainable and most appropriate usage of groundwater. In addition, spatial distribution maps were prepared using GIS for drinking and irrigation WQI assessments of the groundwater. A total of 31 groundwater samples were collected from wells in October 2018 and physicochemical analysis results were evaluated. According to the results obtained with the WQI method, all groundwater samples in the study anecessary to control agricultural activities in the region, to monitor the use of pesticides and fertilizers, and to encourage organic farming practices in the region.Portmán Bay in Southern Spain is one of the most extreme cases in Europe of anthropogenic impact on the marine ecosystem by the disposal of mine tailings resulting from the processing of sulphide ores. First, the composition and extent of the surficial deposit were investigated from geochemical and metal analysis on high spatial density of sediment samples. Then, a disturbance experiment was conducted in the coastal area off Portmán Bay in order to investigate the potential impact of mining activities on marine ecosystems. Two research vessels were used for that experiment, one performing as a trawler resuspending bottom sediments while the other monitor the behaviour of turbid plumes thus generated and the evolution of their characteristics through time by using a range of acoustic and optical tools together with water and bottom sediment sampling for biogeochemical and metal analyses. The surficial part of the submarine extension of the mine tailings deposit is highly concentrated in As, Cd, Pb, Fe and Zn winest fraction remained in suspension thus increasing the metals/sediments concentration ratio. On the other hand, Cd and Zn concentrations in suspended particles did not change significantly over time, which is thought to be caused by the fast dissolution of such metals in seawater. Beyond waste dumping itself, the observed increase in some metals in marine particulate material could have a significant impact on the adjacent coastal ecosystems due to their toxicity above certain thresholds. The consequences of the resuspension experiment here presented can be extrapolated to the impact of seafloor mining activities leading to the resuspension of metal-rich particle plumes into the water column. The experimental set-up presented here may be further explored for investigating metal behaviour during seafloor mining activities. To investigate associations between histology and hepatic mechanical properties measured using multiparametric magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) in adults with known or suspected nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) without histologic fibrosis. This was a retrospective analysis of 88 adults who underwent 3T MR exams including hepatic MRE and MR imaging to estimate proton density fat fraction (MRI-PDFF) within 180 days of liver biopsy. Associations between MRE mechanical properties (mean shear stiffness (|G*|) by 2D and 3D MRE, and storage modulus (G'), loss modulus (G″), wave attenuation (α), and damping ratio (ζ) by 3D MRE) and histologic, demographic and anthropometric data were assessed. In univariate analyses, patients with lobular inflammation grade ≥ 2 had higher 2D |G*| and 3D G″ than those with grade ≤ 1 (p = 0.04). |G*| (both 2D and 3D), G', and G″ increased with age (rho = 0.25 to 0.31; p ≤ 0.03). Automated segmentation in real-time is known to be a difficult image analysis problem, primarily due to artefacts commonly present in IVUS ultrasound images such as shadows, guide-wire effects, and side-branches. An additional challenge is the limited amount of expert labelled IVUS data, which limits the application of many well-performing deep learning models from other domains. To exploit the circular layered structure of the artery in B-Mode images, we propose a multi-class fully convolutional semantic segmentation network based on a minimal U-Net architecture augmented with learned translation dependence in the polar domain. The coordinate awareness in the multi-class segmentation allows the model to exploit relative spatial context about the interior and exterior vessel walls which are simply separable in polar coordinates. After training on 109 expert-labelled examples, our model significantly outperforms the state-of-the art in terms of mean Jaccard Measure (0.91 vs. 0.89) and Hausdorff distance (0.32 mm vs. 0.48 mm) on Media segmentation, and reaches equivalent performance on Lumen segmentation when evaluated on a standard publicly available dataset of 326 IVUS B-Mode images captured by 20 Mhz ultrasound probes. To clarify the FGFRs GA profile and corresponding clinicopathological features in Chinese patients with ICC, a total of 257 cases were identified. Fourteen cases (5.45%) were positive for FGFR2 rearrangement. Further analysis on the 110 FGFR2 rearrangement negative cases showed that 13 patients present additional FGFRs GAs, including FGFR3 rearrangement (2.73%), and FGFRs mutations.   • A validated RP-HPLC method was developed for the estimation of paracetamol, caffeine, metoclopramide and ergotamine simultaneously in bulk and pharmaceutical formulation. The method was extended for the determination of two paracetamol genotoxic and nephrotoxic impurities and degradation products namely p-aminophenol and 4-chloroacetanilide. Separation was done on octadecyl column (15 cm × 2.1 mm, 5 μm). Gradient elution was performed using mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile and water (pH 3) in ratio of (20 80, v/v) for the first 3 min, (50 50, v/v) for the next 4.5 min, then (20 80, v/v) for the final 2.5 min. The flow rate was 0.7 mL/min throughout the run which took 10 min. UV detection was done at 230 nm. The proposed method agreed with ICH guidelines of method validation. The suggested method was applied for the estimation of the proposed drugs in their dosage form. Statistical comparison was done between the results obtained from the suggested method and those obtained from reported HPLC method. The proposed method is more beneficial than the published one because of having higher sensitivity and selectivity as it allows the detection of the proposed drugs in lower concentrations in the presence of paracetamol toxic impurities, p-aminophenol and 4-chloroacetanilide.Eukaryotic genomes are pervasively transcribed, producing large numbers of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), including tens of thousands of long ncRNAs (lncRNAs), defined as ncRNAs longer than 200 nucleotides. LncRNAs participate in regulating most steps of gene expression, including reshaping nuclear organization and chromatin structure; governing multiple steps of transcription, splicing, mRNA stability, and translation; and affecting post-translational protein modifications. However, the loss of Dux did not impair the birth of ****, suggesting that Dux may not be the primary transitioning factor in fertilized embryos. It has been reported that for 2-cell embryos derived from somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) and whose expression of ZGA genes and repeats was aberrant, Dux improved the reprogramming efficiency by correcting aberrant H3K9ac modification via its C-terminal domain. We confirmed that overexpression of full-length Dux mRNA in SCNT embryos improved the efficiency of preimplantation development (62.16% vs. 41.26% with respect to controls) and also increased the expression of Zscan4 and MERVL. Furthermore, we found that the N-terminal double homeodomains of Dux were indispensable for Dux localization and function. The intermediate region was essential for MERVL and Zscan4 activation, and the C-terminal domain was important for elevating level of H3K27ac. Mutant Dux mRNA containing N-terminal double homeodomains with the intermediate region or the C-terminal domain also improved the preimplantation development of SCNT embryos. Thus, we studied 390 pairs of adult feet in a fair state of preservation from archaeological contexts from Spain, Italy, and Oman. Morphological variability, angles, and dimensions of both the normal bones and the bones displaying flat foot characteristics were analyzed. We found a correlation between the presence of flat foot and some morphological and metric features, mainly in the subtalar and Chopart joints. These results are expressed through a combination of morphological and metric variables, which are useful to discriminate between these two groups.

In this review, I present the latest progress on the lncRNA-mediated regulatory mechanisms modulating transcription in Arabidopsis thaliana, focusing on their functions in regulation of gene expression via chromatin structure and interactions with the transcriptional machinery.Public health interventions during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic aim to ensure that the lessons learned of the crises can prevent historical recurrences. However, the loss of Dux did not impair the birth of mice, suggesting that Dux may not be the primary transitioning factor in fertilized embryos. It has been reported that for 2-cell embryos derived from somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) and whose expression of ZGA genes and repeats was aberrant, Dux improved the reprogramming efficiency by correcting aberrant H3K9ac modification via its C-terminal domain. We confirmed that overexpression of full-length Dux mRNA in SCNT embryos improved the efficiency of preimplantation development (62.16% vs. 41.26% with respect to controls) and also increased the expression of Zscan4 and MERVL. Furthermore, we found that the N-terminal double homeodomains of Dux were indispensable for Dux localization and function. The intermediate region was essential for MERVL and Zscan4 activation, and the C-terminal domain was important for elevating level of H3K27ac. Mutant Dux mRNA containing N-terminal double homeodomains with the intermediate region or the C-terminal domain also improved the preimplantation development of SCNT embryos. The main difficulty is related to the diagnosis of this pathology based exclusively on bone remains. In this work, we propose a metric and morphological method to discriminate flat foot in dry bones. Thus, we studied 390 pairs of adult feet in a fair state of preservation from archaeological contexts from Spain, Italy, and Oman. Morphological variability, angles, and dimensions of both the normal bones and the bones displaying flat foot characteristics were analyzed. We found a correlation between the presence of flat foot and some morphological and metric features, mainly in the subtalar and Chopart joints. These results are expressed through a combination of morphological and metric variables, which are useful to discriminate between these two groups.

  • BACKGROUND Aortic anatomy is important in determining the success or failure of endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR). Endoleak is another issue which should be addressed for a long-term durability of the procedure. Internal iliac artery (IIA) embolization is required to prevent type II endoleak when the iliac landing zone is not sufficient such that the iliac limb should be extended down to the external iliac artery (EIA). Pelvic ischemia is an important complication of IIA embolization, but its incidence and severity is not exactly known. Our experience suggests this to be common but not severe. In this study we reviewed the clinical outcomes of patients who underwent IIA embolization to facilitate EVAR at one of the major tertiary medical centers in Korea. METHODS We performed a retrospective review of the patients who underwent IIA embolization prior to EVAR between November 2005 and June 2018 at a single tertiary medical center in Korea. Saphenous and deep vein reflux was evaluated by duplex scan. RESULTS A total of 140 patients (58 men and 82 women) with a mean age of 66.0 years (range, 21 to 84 years) were analyzed. On visual inspection, 204 legs had saphenous-type varicose veins, while 76 legs did not. The legs were divided into 2 groups according to the presence or absence of leg edema, which was defined as ECW/TBW ≥ 0.390 and less then 0.390, respectively; 178 legs had leg edema and the remaining 102 legs had no leg edema. In univariate analysis, there were significant differences in age, sex, the presence of saphenous varicose veins, hypertension, and VFI between legs with edema and those without edema. Multivariable logistic regression analysis for leg edema detected age, female gender, and VFI as an independent risk factor for leg edema. CONCLUSIONS Leg edema was objectively evaluated by bioelectrical impedance analysis in patients with saphenous varicose veins. The initial search obtained 296 citations. After a first screening, the present revision considered the English-language works referred to human application of the FEM published in the last 10 years. Finally, 34 full texts were available after screening. EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS The ultimate aim of this review is to point out all an oral rehabilitation, so we know the characteristics, it remains only to take a step in the field of the industry for the construction of materials close to these characteristics.INTRODUCTION The aim of this study was to review the histologic evidence of reosseointegration and related influencing factors in experimental induced peri-implantitis. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION An electronic search was performed on Medline for animal studies that included a histometric evaluation of the amount of regenerated bone in contact with an implant surface. Questions raised in the study focused on the role of implant surfaces, bone regeneration and decontamination treatments in achieving reosseointegration. A detailed electronic search was then conducted on MEDLINE (PubMed) up to July 2017. EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS One hundred and one articles were selected as abstract, thirty-seven articles assessed as full-text and sixteen finally included in the study. Reported measurements of reosseointegration varied significantly in the study, from 0 to 3.37 mm. There is histological evidence that reosseointegration can occur after treatment of ligature-induced peri-implantitis. However regenerated bone in contact with bone is generally restricted to the most apical portion of the peri-implant defect.

    Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a risk factor of lumbar spine surgical failure. The interest of anterior lumbar fusion in this context remains unknown. This retrospective study aimed to compare the outcome of anterior-only fusions between RA patients and non-RA (NRA) patients to treat lumbar spine degenerative disorders.

    NRA and RA groups including anterior-only fusion were compared. Clinical data (Visual Analog Scale score axial **** pain scale, the Oswestry Disability Index, and a questionnaire of satisfaction regarding the surgical result); radiologic data (bone fusion, sagittal balance analysis); and adverse events were assessed using repeated measure 1-way analysis of variance.

    The mean follow-up was 9.5 years (95% confidence interval [7.1-12.2]) for the RA group (n= 13) and 9.4 years (95% confidence interval [8.7-10.3]) for the NRA group (n= 36). Anterior fusion improved clinical outcome without any effect of RA (Visual Analog Scale score axial **** pain scale; P < 0.001/Oswestry Disability Index; P= 0.01). The presence of RA influenced neither the satisfaction as the regards the surgical result nor spine balance nor bone fusion. Context of RA increased the surgical revision rate (10 patients [76.9%] for RA group vs. 3 patients [8.8%] for the NRA group; P= 0.001) because of the occurrence of an adjacent segment disease needing surgical revision (P= 0.028), especially the occurrence of intervertebral frontal dislocation (P= 0.02).

    In this study, the morphologic characteristics and anatomic position of the dorsal root ganglion (DRG) were measured and analyzed in healthy people using magnetic resonance neurography (MRN), which provided an anatomical reference for minimally invasive spinal surgery.

    From January 2018 to December 2019, 20 healthy adult volunteers (10 male and 10 female volunteers between 20 and 65 years old) were scanned and imaged by 3.0 T magnetic resonance imaging combined with neuroimaging technology. Here, the position of the DRG was located, and the shape and size of the DRG, as well as its distance to the upper pedicle, were measured.

    All volunteers provided satisfactory MRN scans of the L1-S1 lumbar DRG. According to the spatial position of the DRG, the morphology of the DRG can be divided into the intervertebral foramen type (81.01%), intraspinal type (16.01%), extraforaminal type (0.8%), and mixed type (2.0%).

    The intervertebral foramen type and Intraspinal type were observed to be the main distribution forms of lumbar DRG. Due to the downward movement of lumbar segments, the position of the DRG was noted to gradually move to the spinal canal while its volume gradually increased. In addition, the distance from the upper pedicle was found to decrease gradually. MRN imaging can clearly show the shape, location, and adjacent relationship of the DRG, providing effective imaging guidance for the minimally invasive lumbar techniques.

    Posterior fossa surgery is particularly prone to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage. Several methods have been introduced to address and/or prevent this complication. However, to the best of our knowledge, the use of a vascularized fascial flap based on the occipital artery for the purpose of reconstruction has not been reported. We introduce the occipital fascial flap (OFF) forreconstruction of a craniectomy defect after the retrosigmoid approach.

    A 57-year-old woman with a large cerebellar metastasis underwent gross total resection of the mass followed by reconstruction of the craniectomy defect using OFF.

    Postoperative imaging showed flap viability and no CSF leak occurred during follow-up.

    We report the first use of OFF for reconstruction of a craniectomy defect in a retrosigmoid approach. The vascularized fascial flap in posterior fossa surgery is a potentially helpful technique to reduce the risk of CSF leak in high-risk patients.

We introduce the occipital fascial flap (OFF) forreconstruction of a craniectomy defect after the retrosigmoid approach. A 57-year-old woman with a large cerebellar metastasis underwent gross total resection of the mass followed by reconstruction of the craniectomy defect using OFF. Postoperative imaging showed flap viability and no CSF leak occurred during follow-up. We report the first use of OFF for reconstruction of a craniectomy defect in a retrosigmoid approach.
