    BACKGROUND Understanding the preferences for end-of-life (EOL) care is imperative in providing quality care to patients with life-threatening illness. However, it is difficult for patients, families, and health-care providers to initiate EOL conversations in China. An easy-to-use tool that could help health-care providers initiate EOL discussions is the Heart to Heart Card Game (HHCG), originally designed for Chinese Americans. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the EOL preferences among Chinese patients with cancer using the HHCG. METHODS We conducted a descriptive study to assess EOL preferences using HHCG among patients at the oncology chemoradiotherapy department of a Chinese tertiary hospital. RESULTS We recruited 58 patients in total of which 40 (69%) patients completed HHCG. The most frequently selected card was "I want my family to get along," followed by "I don't want to be a burden to my family," and "I want to maintain my dignity." Among the 3 cards selected, social needs were rated as the most important (36.7%), followed by spiritual needs (35.8%), physical needs (20.0%), and financial needs (7.5%). The evaluation of the HHCG revealed that more than 70% of the participants highly valued HHCG. CONCLUSION The HHCG can be used as a communication tool to encourage EOL discussions between cancer patients and health-care providers in China.     Traditional food consumption for Indigenous peoples is associated with improved nutrition and health but can also pose potential risks via exposure to contaminants. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are compounds of interest due to their widespread presence (e.g., their metabolites are detected in up to 100% of the Canadian population) and their toxicological potential. To better understand the range of exposures faced by Indigenous populations in northern Canada and to address a contaminant of emerging concern identified by the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme, a multi-year biomonitoring study investigated levels of PAH exposure in subarctic First Nations communities of the Northwest Territories, Canada. Secondary data analysis of banked samples from a subset of the cross-sectional study was done. PAHs and cotinine markers in the urine samples (n = 97) of participants from two regions from the Mackenzie Valley (Dehcho and Sahtú) was completed by liquid and gas chromatography coupled with massover time. These findings will support regional and territorial decision makers in identifying environmental health priorities. Both diflufenican and its two main aerobic metabolites were investigated. Diflufenican and the metabolites degraded slower in gravel than in agricultural soil. The difference in total PCB and PBDE concentrations between the urban and waste processing air samples was not statistically significant. Meanwhile, levels of PAHs, Me-PAHs, benzo [a]pyrene equivalents (BaP-EQs), and toxic equivalents of dioxin-like PCBs (WHO-TEQs) were **** higher in the waste processing sites. This is the first report on the abundance of mono- and di-CBs (notably CB-11) in the air from a developing country, suggesting their roles as emerging and ubiquitous air pollutants. The third group, those with progressive peripapillary RNFL and macular GCIPL thinning, showed more progressive peripapillary RNFL thinning in the inferotemporal area and VF progression in the parafoveal area. Conversely, the 12 and 6 o'clock areas were the most common locations of progressive peripapillary RNFL thinning in the group without macular GCIPL involvement.   • BACKGROUND With the increased survival rates of childhood cancer, long-term survivors' well-being over the life span has come into focus. A better understanding of the determinants of childhood cancer survivors' (CCS) mental health outcomes contributes to the identification of vulnerable individuals as well as to the development of evidence-based prevention and intervention efforts. It has been noted that psychosocial factors such as parental rearing behavior shape individual differences in mental health. There is also evidence that parents show altered parenting behavior in the face of childhood cancer, e. g. that they express more emotional support, but also more worries. However, little is known about the relevance of different parenting styles for CCS' mental health decades after diagnosis and treatment. METHODS We examined the associations of recalled parenting styles and disease-related factors with lifetime diagnoses of depression and anxiety disorders in a German, registry-based sample of adult CCS (N survivorship. Interventions aimed at fostering survivors' quality of life should consider the sustained relevance of early relationships. Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is considered one of the leading causes of death worldwide. In addition to physical inactivity and obesity, established risk factors for T2D, chemical contaminants consumed in industrialized food such as BPA might also be a contributor to the development of T2D. Epidemiological studies have shown that BPA concentrations are higher in human specimens of T2D when compared to healthy subjects, while experimental studies suggested that bisphenol A (BPA) impairs the pathway by which insulin stimulates glucose uptake. In skeletal muscle and adipocytes, insulin resistance is developed by the impairment of the insulin pathway to stimulate the translocation of glucose transporter, GLUT4, to the cell membrane. Recent results demonstrated that BPA impairs several components of insulin-induced glucose uptake pathway and affect the expression of GLUT4. Regular physical exercise delays or inhibits the development of T2D due to the physiologic processes taking place during muscle contraction, and the fact that skeletal muscle is the site for almost 80% of the glucose transported under insulin stimulation. CHF, proteinuria, type of AF, and LAD ≥ 45 mm were associated with eGFR decline ≥ 30% in AF patients with CKD stages 1-3. Advanced age, CHF, lower baseline eGFR, and LAD ≥ 45 mm were associated with progression to renal insufficiency. These results should be considered when identifying patients who require more frequent monitoring of eGFR.The efficacy and safety of non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs) in atrial fibrillation (AF) with coronary or peripheral artery disease (CAD or PAD) remain largely unresolved. We, therefore, conducted a meta-analysis to explore the effect of NOACs compared with warfarin in these populations.We systematically searched the Cochrane Library, PubMed, and Embase databases for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving NOACs versus warfarin in AF patients with CAD or PAD. A random-effect model was selected to pool the risk ratios (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs).A total of 7 RCTs were included. In AF patients with CAD, compared with warfarin use, the use of NOACs was associated with reduced risks of stroke/systemic embolism (RR 0.82; 95% CI 0.70-0.96) and intracranial hemorrhage (RR 0.41; 95% CI 0.26-0.63), but NOACs versus warfarin showed similar risks of all-cause death (RR 0.95; 95% CI 0.86-1.05), cardiovascular death (RR 0.95; 95% CI 0.80-1.13), stroke (RR 0.80; 95% CI 0.64-1.00), myocardial infarction (RR 1.00; 95% CI 0.83-1.21), and major bleeding (RR 0.82; 95% CI 0.65-1.04). Material and Methods Ten dogs of the Dobermann breed with proteinuria (five with a urine protein-to-creatinine ratio (UPC) of 0.5-1 and five with a UPC >1) and twelve healthy dogs were enrolled. An ELISA was performed to measure uIgG, uRBP, and uTHP, and these proteins were quantified in relation to urinary creatinine (uCrea). Results uIgG/uCr and uRBP/uCr were significantly higher in the family of Dobermanns than in the healthy dogs. A significant difference in the uTHP/uCr value was found only in dogs with a UPC of >1. Conclusion IgG seems to facilitate the diagnosis of primary hereditary glomerulopathy in Dobermanns. Group T had the section surgically implanted next to the blood vessel-rich saphenous vein and Group C had it cryopreserved at -80°C. After eight weeks, the bone was surgically implanted **** into the matching radial deficit. Bone healing was evaluated by gross morphological and X-ray examinations, post-mortem histology, and successive blood measurements of key bone biochemical markers. Results At 12 weeks, the bone healing boundary was disappearing more quickly in group T dogs than in their group C counterparts. X-ray and histological examinations showed that the cortical repair of group T subjects was complete and the bony plate arrangement was more regular than that in group C. The levels of bone biochemical markers also proved that the healing state of group T was better. Radiography, the most common of them, has extensive application in diagnosing the causes of lameness in small animals. Other techniques, such as ultrasonography, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging visualise other joint structures and surrounding soft tissues. However, these imaging modalities are rarely used to diagnose diseases and injuries of the canine carpus at present. The main reason for this is the small amount of research carried out and the lack of a properly described methodology for the use of imaging techniques. The wide use of all diagnostic imaging tools in the diagnosis of diseases and injuries of the wrist joint in humans shows that conducting studies on dogs could expand current knowledge. The use of these techniques in veterinary medicine could facilitate diagnosis and subsequent therapy of carpal disorders in dogs. MRI is the most frequently used imaging method in human medicine for visualisation of abnormalities of joints. All the dogs were included after physical and cardiological examinations and blood analyses. The TFD of HRV were analysed from a five-minute-long digital ECG recording after removal of non-sinus complexes. Results There were no statistically significant differences in any TFD parameters between age, reproductive status or sex groups. A mild increase in all time domain parameters and the high-frequency (HF) band was observed in older dogs, and the low frequency (LF)HF ratio decreased in these dogs. In males, the time domain parameters and HF band increased slightly. Conclusion The normal ranges for HRV derived from short-term ECG recording in the usual clinical environment now have proposed reference ranges. Our findings suggest that accommodation time, age, sex, or reproductive status do not influence the results derived from these recordings, indicating that this method is reliable for assessing the ANS function in small and medium-sized dog breeds. © 2020 R.A.     In contrast, only %∆ of forced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1), and FEF25%-75% (forced expiratory flow 25%-75%) were significantly different between groups. Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that %predicted of R5, %∆R5, %predicted of FEV1 and %∆FEV1 were the predictive factors for predicting the future loss of asthma control. The following cutoff values demonstrated the best sensitivity and specificity for predicting loss of asthma control %predicted of R5=91.28, %∆R5=21.2, %predicted of FEV1=89.5, and %∆FEV1=7.8. The combination of these parameters predicted the risk of loss of asthma control with area under the curve of 0.924, accuracy of 83.8%. Conclusion Resistance FOT measures have an additive role to spirometric parameter in predicting future loss of asthma control. Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) syndrome is a severe cutaneous adverse reaction involving various internal organs. Flare-ups after recovery from the initial presentation of DRESS are caused by relapse of drug-induced T-cell-mediated reactions. However, the specific underlying mechanism is unclear. Here, we report a case of a 60-year-old man with allopurinol-induced DRESS who suffered recurrent episodes of generalized rash with eosinophilia, which mimicked immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome. Analysis of immunological profiles revealed that the percentages of T lymphocytes and regulatory T cells in the patient with DRESS were higher than those in healthy controls. In addition, there was a notable change in the subtype of monocytes in the patient with DRESS; the percentage of nonclassical monocytes increased, whereas that of classical monocytes decreased. Upon viral infection, nonclassical monocytes exhibited strong pro-inflammatory properties that skewed the immune response toward a Th2 profile, which was associated with persistent flare-ups of DRESS. Taken together, the results increase our understanding of the pathogenesis of DRESS as they suggest that expansion of nonclassical monocytes and Th2 cells drives disease pathogenesis. Background In the Emergency Department (ED), diagnosis and management of anaphylaxis are challenging with at least 50% of anaphylaxis episodes misdiagnosed when the diagnostic criteria of current guidelines are not used. Objective Objective of our study was to assess anaphylaxis diagnosis and management in patients presenting to the ED. Data collected included demographics, signs and symptoms, triggers and management. Results A total of 105 cases were evaluated. Incidence of anaphylaxis for the 3-year study period was 0.03%. Microencapsulation considerably protected both L. acidophilus and L. rhamnosus in Doogh beverage storage and in gastrointestinal conditions. Microencapsulation provided better protection to L. acidophilus than to L. rhamnosus during Doogh storage. In beverages containing the free form of bacteria, pH and acidity changes were greater than those of microencapsulated and control groups. More activity of the free probiotic bacteria (during a 42-day period especially after 21-day) produced more acid and metabolites inside the product, thereby reducing the organoleptic properties scores, However, acidity, pH and organoleptic characteristics of Doogh containing microencapsulated bacteria did not change considerably.     The Experience of Grandparenting Children. In contrast, only %∆ of forced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1), and FEF25%-75% (forced expiratory flow 25%-75%) were significantly different between groups. Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that %predicted of R5, %∆R5, %predicted of FEV1 and %∆FEV1 were the predictive factors for predicting the future loss of asthma control. The following cutoff values demonstrated the best sensitivity and specificity for predicting loss of asthma control %predicted of R5=91.28, %∆R5=21.2, %predicted of FEV1=89.5, and %∆FEV1=7.8. The combination of these parameters predicted the risk of loss of asthma control with area under the curve of 0.924, accuracy of 83.8%. Conclusion Resistance FOT measures have an additive role to spirometric parameter in predicting future loss of asthma control. Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) syndrome is a severe cutaneous adverse reaction involving various internal organs. Flare-ups after recovery from the initial presentation of DRESS are caused by relapse of drug-induced T-cell-mediated reactions. However, the specific underlying mechanism is unclear. Here, we report a case of a 60-year-old man with allopurinol-induced DRESS who suffered recurrent episodes of generalized rash with eosinophilia, which mimicked immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome. Analysis of immunological profiles revealed that the percentages of T lymphocytes and regulatory T cells in the patient with DRESS were higher than those in healthy controls. In addition, there was a notable change in the subtype of monocytes in the patient with DRESS; the percentage of nonclassical monocytes increased, whereas that of classical monocytes decreased. Upon viral infection, nonclassical monocytes exhibited strong pro-inflammatory properties that skewed the immune response toward a Th2 profile, which was associated with persistent flare-ups of DRESS. Taken together, the results increase our understanding of the pathogenesis of DRESS as they suggest that expansion of nonclassical monocytes and Th2 cells drives disease pathogenesis. Background In the Emergency Department (ED), diagnosis and management of anaphylaxis are challenging with at least 50% of anaphylaxis episodes misdiagnosed when the diagnostic criteria of current guidelines are not used. Objective Objective of our study was to assess anaphylaxis diagnosis and management in patients presenting to the ED. Microencapsulation considerably protected both L. acidophilus and L. rhamnosus in Doogh beverage storage and in gastrointestinal conditions. Microencapsulation provided better protection to L. acidophilus than to L. rhamnosus during Doogh storage. In beverages containing the free form of bacteria, pH and acidity changes were greater than those of microencapsulated and control groups. More activity of the free probiotic bacteria (during a 42-day period especially after 21-day) produced more acid and metabolites inside the product, thereby reducing the organoleptic properties scores, However, acidity, pH and organoleptic characteristics of Doogh containing microencapsulated bacteria did not change considerably. Notably, these N-glycoproteins were enriched in starch and sucrose metabolism and galactose metabolism by KEGG pathway analysis. This community resource regarding N-glycoproteins is the first large-scale N-glycoproteome during plant fruit ripening. This study will contribute to understanding the function of N-glycosylation in regulating plant fruit ripening. Anthropogenic increases in fossil fuel emissions have been a primary driver of increased concentrations of atmospheric carbon dioxide ([CO2]) and other greenhouse gases resulting in warmer temperatures, alterations in precipitation patterns, and increased occurrence of extreme weather events in terrestrial areas across the globe. In agricultural growing regions, alterations in climate can challenge plant productivity in ways that impact the ability of the world to sustain adequate food production for a growing and increasingly affluent population with shifting access to affordable and nutritious food. While the knowledge gap that exists regarding potential climate change impacts is large across agriculture, it is especially large in specialty cropping systems. This includes fruit and vegetable crops, and perennial cropping systems which also contribute (along with row crops) to our global diet. In order to obtain a comprehensive view of the true impact of climate change on our global food supply, we must expand our narrow focus from improving yield and plant productivity to include the impact of climate change on the nutritional value of these crops. In order to address these questions, we need a multi-faceted approach that integrates physiology and genomics tools and conducts comprehensive experiments under realistic depictions of future projected climate. This review describes gaps in our knowledge in relation to these responses, and future questions and actions that are needed to develop a sustainable future food supply in light of global climate change. In Brassica napus, pod number and pod density are critical factors to determine seed yield. Although the pod density is an essential yield trait, the regulation of yield formation in oil crops, as well as the genetic and molecular mechanisms, are poorly understood. In this study, we characterized a rapeseed high-density pod mutant (dpt247) from composite hybridization. To shed some light on the nature of this mutation, it was investigated morphologically, anatomically, physiologically, genetically and transcriptomically. The mutant plant showed noticeable phenotypic differences in comparison with the control plant, including reduced plant height and primary branch length, decreased number of primary branches, significantly increased number of pod on the main inflorescence, and more compact pod distribution. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/th1760.html Besides, the mutant had higher levels of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and zeatin riboside (ZR) in the shoot apical meristem (SAM). When so doing, they trigger large-scale rearrangements at the metabolic and transcriptional levels. The dynamics and patterns of these rearrangements and how they govern a stress response is not clear. In this opinion, we discuss a plant's response to stress from the perspective of the metabolic gene co-expression network and its rearrangement upon stress. As a case study, we use publicly available expression data of Arabidopsis thaliana plants exposed to heat and drought stress to evaluate and compare the co-expression networks of metabolic genes. The analysis highlights that stress conditions can lead to metabolic tightening and expansion of the co-expression network. We argue that this rearrangement could play a role in a plant's response to stress and thus may be an additional tool to assess and understand stress tolerance/sensitivity. Additional studies are needed to evaluate the metabolic network in response to multiple stresses at various intensities and across different genetic backgrounds (e.g., intra- and inter-species, sensitive and tolerant eco/genotypes). Transcription factor (TF) gene clusters in plants, such as tomato, potato, petunia, tobacco, and almond, have been characterized for their roles in the biosynthesis of diverse array of specialized metabolites. In Catharanthus roseus, three AP2/ERF TFs, ORCA3, ORCA4, and ORCA5, have been shown to be present on the same genomic scaffold, forming a cluster that regulates the biosynthesis of pharmaceutically important terpenoid indole alkaloids (TIAs). Our analysis of the recently updated C. roseus genome sequence revealed that the ORCA cluster comprises two additional AP2/ERFs, the previously characterized ORCA2 and a newly identified member designated as ORCA6. Transcriptomic analysis revealed that the ORCAs are highly expressed in stems, followed by leaves, roots and flowers. Expression of ORCAs was differentially induced in response to methyl-jasmonate and ethylene treatment. In addition, ORCA6 activated the strictosidine synthase (STR) promoter in tobacco cells.   • Affect regarding inhalers employed in the treatment of respiratory conditions on climate change.
    BACKGROUND Disruption of the gut barrier is an essential mechanism of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs) contributing to the development of mucosal inflammation. A hallmark of barrier disruption is the disassembly of epithelial adherens junctions (AJs) driven by decreased expression of a major AJ protein, E-cadherin. A group of isoxazole compounds, such as E-cadherin-upregulator (ECU) and ML327, were previously shown to stimulate E-cadherin expression in poorly differentiated human cancer cells. This study was designed to examine whether these isoxazole compounds can enhance and protect model intestinal epithelial barriers in vitro. METHODS The study was conducted using T84, SK-CO15, and HT-29 human colonic epithelial cell monolayers. Disruption of the epithelial barrier was induced by pro-inflammatory cytokines, tumor necrosis factor-α, and interferon-γ. Barrier integrity and epithelial junction assembly was examined using different permeability assays, immunofluorescence labeling, and confocal microscopy. Although mental health conditions have been associated with pain interference and child abuse, research has been mixed regarding it acting as a mediator, with even less known among people who inject drugs. Therefore, we sought to explore childhood emotional abuse and pain interference among this population. METHODS Data were derived from two prospective cohort studies of community-recruited people who inject drugs in Vancouver, Canada, between June 2014 and November 2016. We employed multivariable generalized estimating equations to examine the relationship between childhood emotional abuse and pain interference in the past six months. We also conducted a mediation analysis to examine whether mental health disorder diagnoses mediated this association. RESULTS Among 822 eligible participants, 341 (41.5%) reported childhood emotional abuse. In a multivariable analysis, experiencing childhood emotional abuse remained independently associated with pain interference (adjusted odds ratio = 1.33, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.05-1.70) after adjusting for a range of confounders. Results from the mediation analysis yielded a statistically significant positive average causal mediation effect (β = 0.01, 95% CI = 0.001-0.02). Approximately 12% of the effect was due to mediation. CONCLUSIONS Our results demonstrate among people who inject drugs with chronic pain, those who experienced childhood emotional abuse were more likely to report pain interference, which was partially mediated by mental health disorder diagnosis history. These findings highlight the importance of incorporating screening and appropriate treatment for mental illness into chronic pain treatment. © 2019 American Academy of Pain Medicine. However, continuous genetic instability-induced heterogeneity of cell lines can hinder the reproducibility of cancer research. Molecular profiling approaches including transcriptomics, chromatin modification profiling and proteomics are used to evaluate the phenotypic characteristics of cell lines. However, these do not reflect the metabolic function at the molecular level. Metabolic phenotyping is a powerful tool to profile the biochemical composition of cell lines. In this study, 1H-NMR spectroscopy-based metabolic phenotyping was used to detect metabolic differences among 5 cancer cell lines, namely, lung (A549), colonic (Caco2), brain (H4), renal (RCC), and ovarian (SKOV3) cancer cells. The concentrations of choline, creatine, lactate, alanine, fumarate and succinate varied remarkably among different cell types.The significantly higher intracellular concentrations of glutathione, myo-inositol, and phosphocholine were found in the SKOV3 cell line relative to other cell lines. Glutamate is higher in both SKOV3 and RCC cells compared to other cell lines. For cell culture media analysis, isopropanol was found to be the highest in RCC media, followed by A549 and SKOV3 media, while acetone was the highest in A549, followed by RCC and SKOV3. These results demonstrated that 1H-NMR-based metabolic phenotyping approach allows us to characterize specific metabolic signatures of cancer cell lines and provides phenotypical information of cellular metabolism. On the mechanistic level Tcf4 was identified as the preferred heterodimerization partner of the central regulator of oligodendrocyte development Olig2. Both genetic studies in the mouse as well as functional studies on enhancer regions of myelin genes confirmed the relevance of this physical interaction for oligodendrocyte differentiation. RESULTS Of the 172 household contacts on preventive treatment, 36 (21%) developed 64 adverse events during 813 months of treatment. The incidence of adverse events over 6-months treatment was 7.9 per 100 person-months (p-m); 16 per 100 p-m with a fluoroquinolone and ethionamide and 4.4 per 100 p-m with a fluoroquinolone and ethambutol.

CONCLUSIONS Our results demonstrate among people who inject drugs with chronic pain, those who experienced childhood emotional abuse were more likely to report pain interference, which was partially mediated by mental health disorder diagnosis history. However, continuous genetic instability-induced heterogeneity of cell lines can hinder the reproducibility of cancer research. Molecular profiling approaches including transcriptomics, chromatin modification profiling and proteomics are used to evaluate the phenotypic characteristics of cell lines. However, these do not reflect the metabolic function at the molecular level. Metabolic phenotyping is a powerful tool to profile the biochemical composition of cell lines. In this study, 1H-NMR spectroscopy-based metabolic phenotyping was used to detect metabolic differences among 5 cancer cell lines, namely, lung (A549), colonic (Caco2), brain (H4), renal (RCC), and ovarian (SKOV3) cancer cells. The concentrations of choline, creatine, lactate, alanine, fumarate and succinate varied remarkably among different cell types.The significantly higher intracellular concentrations of glutathione, myo-inositol, and phosphocholine were found in the SKOV3 cell line relative to other cell lines. Glutamate is higher in both SKOV3 and RCC cells compared to other cell lines. For cell culture media analysis, isopropanol was found to be the highest in RCC media, followed by A549 and SKOV3 media, while acetone was the highest in A549, followed by RCC and SKOV3. These results demonstrated that 1H-NMR-based metabolic phenotyping approach allows us to characterize specific metabolic signatures of cancer cell lines and provides phenotypical information of cellular metabolism. Using mouse mutants, organotypic slice and primary cell cultures we here show that Tcf4 is required in a cell-autonomous manner for proper terminal differentiation and myelination in vivo and ex vivo. Partial compensation is provided by the paralogous Tcf3, but not Tcf12. On the mechanistic level Tcf4 was identified as the preferred heterodimerization partner of the central regulator of oligodendrocyte development Olig2. Both genetic studies in the mouse as well as functional studies on enhancer regions of myelin genes confirmed the relevance of this physical interaction for oligodendrocyte differentiation. This study describes the occurrence of adverse events and their risk factors during a 6-month 2-drug fluoroquinolone-based preventive treatment for household contacts of drug-resistant TB patients in Karachi, Pakistan. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/gsk484-hcl.html METHODS The primary outcome was development of any clinical adverse event during preventive treatment. Adverse events were categorized using the adverse events grading tables of National Institute of Health. Time to event analysis with Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox proportional hazards models accounting for recurrence were used to analyze associated risk factors. RESULTS Of the 172 household contacts on preventive treatment, 36 (21%) developed 64 adverse events during 813 months of treatment. The incidence of adverse events over 6-months treatment was 7.9 per 100 person-months (p-m); 16 per 100 p-m with a fluoroquinolone and ethionamide and 4.4 per 100 p-m with a fluoroquinolone and ethambutol.
