Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, scientific congresses are increasingly being organised as virtual congresses. In May 2020, the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) held a VC, free-of-charge. In the absence of systematic studies on this topic, the aim of this study is to evaluate the attendance and perceived quality of the 2020 EAN virtual congress (VC) compared to the 2019 EAN face-to-face congress (FFC).
Analysis of demographic data of participants obtained from the online registration collected. Comparison of the two congresses based on a survey with questions on the perception of speakers' performance, quality of networking, and other aspects.
Of 43,596 registered participants, 20,694 active participants attended the VC. Compared to 2019, the number of participants tripled (6916 in 2019) and the cumulated number of participants attending the sessions was five times higher (169,334 in 2020 vs 33,024 in 2019). Out of active participants 55% were from outside Europe, 42% were board-certified neurologists (FFC 80%), and 21% were students (FFC 0.6%). The content of the congress was evaluated as 'above expectation' by 56% of the attendees (FFC 41%). Out of the respondents who had been exposed to earlier EAN congresses 73% preferred the FFC congress compared to the VC (17%).

In zebrafish, lymphatic endothelial cells (LECs) originate from multiple/several distinct progenitor populations and generate organ-specific lymphatic vasculatures. Cell fate and tissue specificities were determined using a combination of genetically engineered transgenic lines in which the promoter of a LEC-specific gene drives expression of a fluorescent reporter protein.
We established a novel zebrafish transgenic line expressing eGFP under the control of part of the zebrafish batf3 promoter (Basic Leucine Zipper ATF-Like Transcription Factor 3). The role of subcortical structures and cerebral cortex in the maintenance of respiratory homeostasis in humans remains poorly understood. Emerging evidence suggests an important role of the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) in respiratory control. In this study, local field potentials (LFPs) from dorsal ACC were recorded in humans through implanted deep brain electrodes during several breathing activities, including voluntary activities of breath-holding and deep breathing, and involuntary activities of inspiration of varying concentrations of carbon dioxide (1%, 3%, 5% and 7%). We found that the breath-holding task ining task with associated hypocapnia (deep breathing) induced bilateral changes in activity within low frequency bands. Furthermore, probabilistic diffusion tractography analysis showed left-sided connection of the ACC with the insula and frontal operculum, and bilateral connections within subsections of the cingulate gyrus and the thalamus. This electrophysiological analysis provides direct evidence for a role of the ACC in respiratory control in humans.

The 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has spread worldwide and the number of cases continues to rise exponentially. Epidemiologic reports indicate that severity of illness increases with age. However, the reasons behind the relative protection of children and infants are unclear. Whether the rationale is host-related or virus dependent is important to determine since the latter could change with viral mutations. We review factors that could affect the susceptibility of children to the novel coronavirus.

Descriptions of the pathophysiology of current and previous coronavirus infections suggest several viral targets and immunomodulatory pathways affecting the severity of illness. There is limited evidence to suggest age-variability of viral cell receptors and transmembrane co-factors required for coronavirus entry and replication. However, the ensuing cytokine storm and the effect of higher melatonin in children are age-dependent and could explain decreased disease variability in children.
We believe that current evidence suggests host factors can play a role in disease severity in children and thus may remain protective despite potential virus mutation in the future. However, we recognise and discuss avenues of future research that can further illuminate the reasons children are protected from severe COVID-19 illness.

The complexity of this disease is endorsed by various immunopathological consequences such as lymphangitis, lymphadenitis and elephantiasis. The immune evasion strategies that a filarial parasite usually follows are chiefly initiated with the communication between the invaded parasites and parasite-derived molecules, with the Toll-like receptors (TLRs) present on the surface of the antigen-presenting cells (APCs). Classically, the filarial parasites interact with the DCs resulting in lowering of CD4+ T-cell responses. These CD4+ T-cell responses are the key players behind the immune-mediated pathologies associated with LF. In chronic stage, the canonical pro-inflammatory immune responses are shifted towards an anti-inflammatory subtype, which is favouring the parasite survivability within the host. The central theme of this review article is to present the overall immune response elicited when an APC, particularly a DC, encounters a filarial parasite.An 11-year-old boy presented to the emergency department 5 days after playing in the forest. His initial eruption, consistent with allergic contact dermatitis to poison ivy, progressed into target lesions involving his extremities, palms, upper trunk, and face, consistent with an erythema multiforme-like eruption. This report details the case and reviews the literature concerning this atypical and potentially underreported complication of plant-induced allergic contact dermatitis.We have investigated if the heterologous expression of a functional green alga plastocyanin in the diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum can improve photosynthetic activity and cell growth. Previous in vitro assays showed that a single-mutant of the plastocyanin from the green algae Chlamydomonas reinhardtii is effective in reducing P. tricornutum photosystem I. In this study, in vivo assays with P. tricornutum strains expressing this plastocyanin indicate that even the relatively low intracellular concentrations of holo-plastocyanin detected (≈4 μM) are enough to promote an increased growth (up to 60%) under iron-deficient conditions as compared with the WT strain, measured as higher cell densities, content in pigments and active photosystem I, global photosynthetic rates per cell, and even cell volume. In addition, the presence of plastocyanin as an additional photosynthetic electron carrier seems to decrease the over-reduction of the plastoquinone pool. To advance our molecular understanding of ependymomas, we performed Next Generation Sequencing of rRNA-depleted total RNA of 10 primary ependymoma and three control samples. CircRNA expression patterns were correlated to disease stage, outcome, age, and gender. We found a profound global downregulation of circRNAs in ependymoma relative to control samples. Many differentially expressed circRNAs were discovered and circSMARCA5 and circ-FBXW7, which are described as tumor suppressors in glioma and glioblastomas in adults, were among the most downregulated. Moreover, patients with a dismal outcome clustered separately from patients with a good prognosis in unsupervised hierarchical cluster analyses. Next, NanoString nCounter experiments were performed, using a custom-designed panel targeting 66 selected circRNAs, on a larger cohort that also included medulloblastomas and pilocytic astrocytomas. These experiments indicated that circRNA expression profiles are different among distinct pediatric brain tumor subtypes. In particular, circRNAs derived from RMST, LRBA, WDR78, DRC1 and BBS9 genes were specifically upregulated in ependymomas. In conclusion, circRNAs have different expression profiles in ependymomas relative to controls and between survivors and patients with a dismal outcome, suggesting that circRNAs could be exerted as diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers in the future if further validated in larger cohorts.

During the COVID-19 pandemic in BH, all psychiatric services functioned on a reduced scale, adhering to measures to protect and self-protect staff and service users. This pandemic has affected physical health as well as mental health adversely. Several recent evidence suggests that health systems across the world have to improve their preparedness in context to infectious pandemics. The research on mental health aspects of COVID-19 and other related pandemics is lacking due to obvious reasons. This narrative review article, along with our personal views, is on various current and future mental health issues in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic focusing on various challenges and suggested solutions. The aim is also to update mental health strategies in the context of such rapidly spreading contagious illness, which can act as a resource for such a situation, currently and in future. We recommend that there is a need to facilitate mental health research to understand the psychiatric aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic, include psychiatrists in the task force, and make available psychotropic and other medications with special attention to the deprived sector of the society.
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has emerged as a global health threat. The South-Asian (SA) countries have witnessed both the initial brunt of the outbreak as well as the ongoing rise of cases. Their unique challenges in relation to mental health during the pandemic are worth exploring.
A systematic review was conducted for all the original studies on the impact of COVID-19 and lockdown on psychological health/well-being in the SA countries of the World Psychiatric Association Zone 16. PubMed, Google Scholar, PSYCHINFO, EMBASE, and SCOPUS were searched till June 2020. Studies conducted in the age group of 18-60 years with a minimum sample size of 10, and statistically significant results were included.
Thirteen studies were included in the review. They showed increase prevalence in nonpsychotic depression, preanxiety, somatic concerns, alcohol-related disorders, and insomnia in the general population. Psychological symptoms correlated more with physical complaints of fatigue and pain in older adults-19 crisis and its impact serve as an important period for adequate mental healthcare, promotion, research, and holistic biopsychosocial management of psychiatric disorders, especially in vulnerable groups. Mental healthcare and research strategies during the pandemic and preparedness for postpandemic aftermath are advocated subsequently.Nephrotic syndrome (NS) can be a symptom of many autoimmune, metabolic, or infectious diseases. Kidney involvement is often observed in the course of diabetes mellitus (DM) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The development of NS with coexisting SLE and DM generates serious diagnostic problems. In this paper, the authors present diagnostic and therapeutic dilemmas in a patient with long-lasting DM, SLE, and secondary antiphospholipid syndrome, in whom NS symptoms appeared. Histopathological examination of the kidney confirmed the diagnosis of lupus nephritis. Immunosuppressive and anticoagulant drugs were used. This narrative review article, along with our personal views, is on various current and future mental health issues in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic focusing on various challenges and suggested solutions. The aim is also to update mental health strategies in the context of such rapidly spreading contagious illness, which can act as a resource for such a situation, currently and in future. Their unique challenges in relation to mental health during the pandemic are worth exploring. A systematic review was conducted for all the original studies on the impact of COVID-19 and lockdown on psychological health/well-being in the SA countries of the World Psychiatric Association Zone 16. PubMed, Google Scholar, PSYCHINFO, EMBASE, and SCOPUS were searched till June 2020. Studies conducted in the age group of 18-60 years with a minimum sample size of 10, and statistically significant results were included. Thirteen studies were included in the review. They showed increase prevalence in nonpsychotic depression, preanxiety, somatic concerns, alcohol-related disorders, and insomnia in the general population. Critical illness impairs physical function. The NONSEDA trial was a multicenter randomized trial, assessing non-sedation versus sedation during mechanical ventilation. The aim of this sub-study was to assess the effect of non-sedation on physical function.
All patients from one NONSEDA trial site were included. At ICU discharge and three months thereafter, survivors were assessed for physical function.
205 patients were included, 118 survived to follow-up, 116 participated (98%).
Three months after ICU-discharge, health-related quality of life (SF-36, physical component score) was similar (non-sedated 38.3 vs sedated 36.6, mean difference 1.7, 95% CI -1.7 to 5.1), as was function in activities of daily living (Barthel Index, non-sedated 19.5 vs sedated 18, median difference 1.5, 95% CI -0.2 to 3.2).
Non-sedated patients had a better Barthel Index at ICU-discharge (median 9 vs 4, median difference 5, 95% CI 2.5 to 7.5). At three months post-ICU discharge, the two groups did not differ regarding handgrip strength, walking distance, muscle size or biomechanical data.
Non-sedation did not lead to improved quality of life regarding physical function or better function in activities of everyday living. Non-sedated patients had a better physical recovery at ICU discharge.

To systematically review the available evidence and examine the factors that may limit patients' access to breast cancer care in Africa.
We searched six databases (Google Scholar, Web of Science, PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, and Scopus) for studies conducted among breast cancer patients in Africa, highlighting patient challenges and barriers to care or treatment. The search was limited to studies published in the English language and from January 2000 until August 2019. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were followed. There were no limitations to the methodological design of the included studies.
In total, 18,154 articles were retrieved through electronic search; twenty-five were eligible for inclusion after quality appraisal. We analyzed the data using the deductive content analysis approach. Three categories emerged as barriers to breast cancer care Socio-economic challenges, Institutional shortfalls, and Distinctiveness.
The findings support that economic hardships, fear, and scarcity of cancer treatments/equipment are critical in limiting access to breast cancer care. Sustainable strategies aimed at scaling-up breast cancer care in the region are necessary. The results also highlight the need for reduced treatment cost and aggressive educational campaigns across healthcare facilities and the local communities.

Marked spermatogenic cellular associations and spermatid developmental stages were present in adult testes only during the breeding season. There was variation in the dimensions of the single ovary during follicular development related to the age and breeding status of the females. Testosterone, dihydrotestosterone, and estradiol concentrations fluctuated during the breeding and non-breeding periods, with males and females having similar steroid concentrations. The results from this study confirm that the breeding status in African penguins can be deduced based on testicular and ovarian histological structures. We compared the antibody recognition of a recombinant CL1 (rCL1) antigen and native adult fluke ES products. Previous studies have suggested that depression in patients with diabetes is associated with worse health outcomes. The aim of this study was to evaluate the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and mortality in patients with diabetes with comorbid depression.
We examined the general health check-up data and claim database of the Korean National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) of 2,668,615 participants with type 2 diabetes mellitus who had examinations between 2009 and 2012. As NHIS database has been established since 2002, those who had been diagnosed with depression or CVD since 2002 were excluded. The 2,228,443 participants were classified into three groups according to the claim history of depression; normal group (n=2,166,979), transient depression group (one episode of depression, n=42,124) and persistent depression group (at least two episodes of depression, n=19,340). The development of CVD and mortality were analyzed from 2009 to 2017.
Those with depression showed a significantly increased risk for stroke (transient depression group hazard ratio [HR], 1.20; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.15 to 1.26) (persistent depression group HR, 1.54; 95% CI, 1.46 to 1.63). Those with depression had an increased risk for myocardial infarction (transient depression group HR, 1.25; 95% CI, 1.18 to 1.31) (persistent depression group HR, 1.38; 95% CI, 1.29 to 1.49). The persistent depression group had an increased risk for all-cause mortality (HR, 1.66; 95% CI, 1.60 to 1.72).

Herein, in situ electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM) and its coupling with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), known as ac-electrogravimetry, have allowed the dynamic aspects of the (co)electroadsorption processes at the electrode-electrolyte interface to be examined. A major contribution of ClO4- anions (TBAClO4) was evidenced, whereas in the PC/N1114TFSI mixture (5050 wt%) both anions (TFSI-) and cations (N1114+) were symmetrically exchanged during cycling. In this work, we report on the Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) and characterization of InAs/GaAs Quantum Dots (QDs) epitaxially grown on quasi-nominal 300 mm Ge/Si(001) and GaAs(001) substrates. QD properties were studied by Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. A wafer level µPL mapping of the entire 300 mm Ge/Si substrate shows the homogeneity of the three-stacked InAs QDs emitting at 1.30 ± 0.04 µm at room temperature. The correlation between PL spectroscopy and numerical modeling revealed, in accordance with transmission electron microscopy images, that buried QDs had a truncated pyramidal shape with base sides and heights around 29 and 4 nm, respectively. InAs QDs on Ge/Si substrate had the same shape as QDs on GaAs substrates, with a slightly increased size and reduced luminescence intensity. Our results suggest that 1.3 μm emitting InAs QDs quantum dots can be successfully grown on CMOS compatible Ge/Si substrates.The development of high-efficiency, recyclable, and inexpensive photocatalysts for water splitting for hydrogen production is of great significance to the application of solar energy. The as-fabricated photocatalyst showed a photocatalytic H2 evolution activity without any co-catalyst. The rate of 1038 µmol g-1 in 5 h under optimal condition is almost 43 times higher than that of pure K7HNb6O19·13H2O. The influencing factors for photocatalysts in photocatalytic hydrogen production under simulated sunlight were studied in detail and the feasible mechanism is presented in this paper. We tested 31 NSCLC patients treated with anti-EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), at baseline and serially during therapy, by comparing three methodologies in detecting EGFR mutations (L858R, exon 19 deletion, and T790M) from plasma scorpions-amplification refractory mutation system (ARMS) methodology by using EGFR Plasma RGQ PCR Kit-QIAGEN, peptide nucleic acid (PNA) clamp and PANA RealTyper integration by using PNAClamp EGFR-PANAGENE, and digital real time PCR by using QuantStudio 3D Digital PCR System-Thermo Fisher Scientific. Specificity was 100% for all three mutations, independently from the platform used. The sensitivity for L858R (42.86%) and T790M (100%) did not change based on the method, while the sensitivity for Del 19 differed markedly (Scorpion-ARMS 45%, PNAClamp 75%, and Digital PCR 85%).

We examined the general health check-up data and claim database of the Korean National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) of 2,668,615 participants with type 2 diabetes mellitus who had examinations between 2009 and 2012. As NHIS database has been established since 2002, those who had been diagnosed with depression or CVD since 2002 were excluded. The 2,228,443 participants were classified into three groups according to the claim history of depression; normal group (n=2,166,979), transient depression group (one episode of depression, n=42,124) and persistent depression group (at least two episodes of depression, n=19,340). The development of CVD and mortality were analyzed from 2009 to 2017. Those with depression showed a significantly increased risk for stroke (transient depression group hazard ratio [HR], 1.20; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.15 to 1.26) (persistent depression group HR, 1.54; 95% CI, 1.46 to 1.63). Those with depression had an increased risk for myocardial infarction (transient depression group HR, 1.25; 95% CI, 1.18 to 1.31) (persistent depression group HR, 1.38; 95% CI, 1.29 to 1.49). The persistent depression group had an increased risk for all-cause mortality (HR, 1.66; 95% CI, 1.60 to 1.72). Coexisting depression in patients with diabetes has a deleterious effect on the development of CVD and mortality. In this work, we report on the Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD) and characterization of InAs/GaAs Quantum Dots (QDs) epitaxially grown on quasi-nominal 300 mm Ge/Si(001) and GaAs(001) substrates. QD properties were studied by Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. A wafer level µPL mapping of the entire 300 mm Ge/Si substrate shows the homogeneity of the three-stacked InAs QDs emitting at 1.30 ± 0.04 µm at room temperature. The correlation between PL spectroscopy and numerical modeling revealed, in accordance with transmission electron microscopy images, that buried QDs had a truncated pyramidal shape with base sides and heights around 29 and 4 nm, respectively. InAs QDs on Ge/Si substrate had the same shape as QDs on GaAs substrates, with a slightly increased size and reduced luminescence intensity. Our results suggest that 1.3 μm emitting InAs QDs quantum dots can be successfully grown on CMOS compatible Ge/Si substrates.The development of high-efficiency, recyclable, and inexpensive photocatalysts for water splitting for hydrogen production is of great significance to the application of solar energy. The as-fabricated photocatalyst showed a photocatalytic H2 evolution activity without any co-catalyst. The rate of 1038 µmol g-1 in 5 h under optimal condition is almost 43 times higher than that of pure K7HNb6O19·13H2O. The influencing factors for photocatalysts in photocatalytic hydrogen production under simulated sunlight were studied in detail and the feasible mechanism is presented in this paper. These data suggest that chromatin state regulates the loss of competence to inductive signals in a context-dependent manner. Cardiovascular disease continues to be the leading cause of mortality in women globally. In addition to traditional risk factors, some sex-specific conditions increase the burden of cardiovascular disease in women. With this literature review, we aimed to review evidence on associations between hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and risk of cardiovascular disease in later life. After a database search and application of inclusion and exclusion criteria, 11 studies were included in the review. Our findings suggest that a history of preeclampsia, gestational hypertension, or elevated systolic blood pressure alone during pregnancy is consistently associated with increased risk of developing and dying from myocardial infarction, heart failure, hypertension, and/or stroke in later life. Nurses and other health care providers should be aware of the cardiovascular risk associated with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and engage women at risk in discussions about health promotion strategies and interventions to address modifiable cardiovascular disease risk factors. In this review, has been performed a bibliographic survey of the plants with repellent activity, evaluate the trends of natural repellent formulations in the scientific literature, those described in patents and commercially available products. Limonene, 1,8-cineole, geraniol, eugenol and citronellal are the active compounds that mostly appear in the essential oils of plants with repellent activity. The type of natural repellent formulation mostly widely marketed is the spray and lotion, respectively. In patents, classic formulation as emulsion was most frequently used, followed by lotions and sprays. Data collected from scientific articles and patents show that microparticles are the most widely used extended release systems nowadays for natural repellents. The citronella essential oil was the one mostly used among the classic commercially available formulations, as well as in the extended release systems described in the literature and patents. Future research must be conducted to the use of nanotechnology in the development of extended release systems containing essential oils with repellent activity produced from natural and biodegradable materials. We considered scenarios that varied in the number of initial cases, the basic reproduction number (R0), the delay from symptom onset to isolation, the probability that contacts were traced, the proportion of transmission that occurred before symptom onset, and the proportion of subclinical infections. We assumed isay between symptom onset and isolation had the largest role in determining whether an outbreak was controllable when R0 was 1·5. For R0 values of 2·5 or 3·5, if there were 40 initial cases, contact tracing and isolation were only potentially feasible when less than 1% of transmission occurred before symptom onset. INTERPRETATION In most scenarios, highly effective contact tracing and case isolation is enough to control a new outbreak of COVID-19 within 3 months. The probability of control decreases with long delays from symptom onset to isolation, fewer cases ascertained by contact tracing, and increasing transmission before symptoms. This model can be modified to reflect updated transmission characteristics and more specific definitions of outbreak control to assess the potential success of local response efforts. This review was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA), which was used for study selection. The psychometric properties described in the studies were sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, and reproducibility. RESULTS Sensitivity was discussed in most studies, with a result of more than 70% in four of them.

PENH is a recently coded module for simulation of proton transport in conjunction with the Monte Carlo code PENELOPE. PENELOPE applies class II simulation to all type of interactions, in particular, to elastic collisions. PENH uses calculated differential cross sections for proton elastic collisions that include electron screening effects as well as nuclear structure effects. Proton-induced nuclear reactions are simulated from information in the ENDF-6 database or from alternative nuclear databases in ENDF format. The purpose of this work is to benchmark this module by simulating absorbed dose distributions from a single finite spot size proton pencil beam in water.

During storage, the potassium level of red blood cell (RBC) components increases, especially after irradiation. Neonates are prone to hyperkalemia, for example, non-oliguric hyperkalemia, so using potassium adsorption filters during transfusion may be helpful. To overcome dilution of RBC components caused by saline priming of existing potassium adsorption filters, a downsized potassium adsorption filter for neonates (PAF-n, Kawasumi Laboratories Inc., Tokyo, Japan) was developed.
To assess the performance of PAF-n, its adsorption efficiency and RBC recovery rate were evaluated by testing pre-filtration and serial post-filtration (0-30 mL, 30-60 mL, 60-90 mL, and 90-120 mL) samples from 8 RBC components.
The average potassium adsorption rate of the PAF-n was 90.5% ± 0.78%, and never less than 89.0% in any of 8 RBC components. RBC recovery rates were 99.3% ± 1.12%.

Glycerol is thought to be superior to mannitol in the treatment of cerebral oedema and elevated intracranial pressure (ICP), particularly with safety concerns. However, the current evidence remains insufficient. Therefore, we aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of glycerol versus mannitol in this meta-analysis.
PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, CENTRAL, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Database, Chongqing VIP information, ClinicalTrials.gov, and the reference lists of relevant articles were searched for randomized controlled trials comparing glycerol and mannitol in patients with brain oedema and elevated ICP. Two investigators independently identified the articles, assessed the study quality and extracted data. Data analyses were performed using RevMan software.
Thirty trials involving 3144 patients met our inclusion criteria. Pooled data indicated that glycerol and mannitol had comparable effectiveness in controlling cerebral oedema (RR, 1.00; 95% CI, 0.97 to 1.03; p=.97), but the risks of acute kidney injury and electrolyte disturbances were significantly lower with glycerol (RR, 0.21; 95% CI, 0.16 to 0.27 and RR, 0.23; 95% CI, 0.17 to 0.30, respectively) than mannitol. Moreover, there seemed to be a lower probability of rebound ICP after the withdrawal of glycerol. Neither haemolysis nor elevated blood glucose levels were observed in the glycerol group.
Regarding the balance between efficacy and safety, glycerol could be an effective and more tolerable alternative therapy for cerebral oedema and elevated ICP than mannitol, especially for high-risk populations of renal failure.

This prospective observational study aimed to evaluate the utility of a genetic score combining CYP2C19 and CYP3A genotypes to predict insufficient initial VRC C (<1 mg/L). Glycerol is thought to be superior to mannitol in the treatment of cerebral oedema and elevated intracranial pressure (ICP), particularly with safety concerns. However, the current evidence remains insufficient. Therefore, we aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of glycerol versus mannitol in this meta-analysis. PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, CENTRAL, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Database, Chongqing VIP information, ClinicalTrials.gov, and the reference lists of relevant articles were searched for randomized controlled trials comparing glycerol and mannitol in patients with brain oedema and elevated ICP. Two investigators independently identified the articles, assessed the study quality and extracted data. Data analyses were performed using RevMan software. Thirty trials involving 3144 patients met our inclusion criteria. Pooled data indicated that glycerol and mannitol had comparable effectiveness in controlling cerebral oedema (RR, 1.00; 95% CI, 0.97 to 1.03; p=.97), but the risks of acute kidney injury and electrolyte disturbances were significantly lower with glycerol (RR, 0.21; 95% CI, 0.16 to 0.27 and RR, 0.23; 95% CI, 0.17 to 0.30, respectively) than mannitol. Calcium Hydroxide (CH) is commonly employed as intracanal medicament in endodontics. In order to maximize its therapeutic effects, it is essential to develop new approaches for preparing the controlled drug release systems which, in turn, facilities the dissociation of CH into calcium and hydroxyl ions. This work studies the sustained-controlled release of calcium ions and the effect of pH changes on the different formulation of CH with hydrophilic natural polymers over a period of 30 days. Various formulations were prepared by combining CH with gelatin, aloe vera and gum tragacanth. Root canals of 60 human teeth were instrumented and filled with a different formulation of CH and suspended in plastic tubes containing distilled water. Three formulas of polymer/CH were evaluated, and pure CH powder was used as a control. At specific time intervals, the calcium ions release and the pH changes of the medium in different formulations were analyzed. The main interactions between the studied polymers and CH were investigated using FTIR spectra. The antibacterial activity of formulations against Enterococcus faecalis was also studied. Faster release of CH was observed for aloe vera/CH. Gum tragacanth/CH showed a slow-release during the first 15 days. Opioid consumption, patient' satisfaction with pain control, and incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting were assessed. Means of pain score at different times in lidocaine group were significantly lower than placebo group (P ˂ 0.05) the difference between mean dose of opioid consumption over 24 h between two groups was not significant (P = 0.785). The antioxidant activity was evaluated using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay. Under the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines for non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC), anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) gene rearrangement is required to be assessed. However, data showing the prevalence of the ALK rearrangement is still deficient and is not yet available in Indonesia. This study used direct smear preparation from transthoracic needle specimens that are minimally invasive. The main objective of the study is to identify the prevalence of the ALK fusion rearrangement gene in cytological specimens.
A total of 35 direct smear preparations diagnosed as lung adenocarcinoma and EGFR mutation negative were involved in this study. The samples were taken between 2017 and 2019. These samples were examined for EML4-ALK fusion rearrangement gene using qRT-PCR. The EML4-ALK rearrangement status was determined by qRT-PCR with high-resolution melting (HRM) analysis.
A total of 28 (80%) samples were from males, and 7 samples were from females. Seven (20% 95% CI 8.4%-36.9%) samples for use in Indonesian patients to improve the outcome of this subset of patients.

The aim of this study was to represent our institutional preliminary experience using the endoscopic double-pigtail catheter (EDPC) as the method of internal drainage and propose it as first-line treatment in case of GL after LSG.

The aeration score was calculated, and the total number of SPCs was quantified in 12 zones of the LUS. Of 109 patients with suspected COVID-19 pneumonia, 77 (71%) were confirmed. The median patient age was 53 (82-36) years, and 81 of the patients (73.7%) were men. The aeration score and the counts of subpleural consolidation in each zone were significantly higher in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia ( =0.018 and < 0.0001, respectively).
