However, there is no universal way of experiencing retirement or understanding retirees' social roles. Especially in the context of the post-communist, liquid modern reality in Poland. The social role of the retiree, defined as a set of rules and expectations generated for individuals occupying particular positions in the social structure, is constructed at the intersection of what is culturally defined and individually negotiated. Therefore, the way in which individuals (re)define term "retiree" and "do retirement" reflects not only inequalities in individual resources and attitudes, but also in social structure in a given place and at a given time. In this contribution, I draw upon data from 68 qualitative interviews with retirees from Poland to analyze retirement practices and meanings assigned to the term "retiree." Applying practice theory, I explore the inequalities they (re)produce, mirror and reinforce at the same time. Results show that there are four broad types of retirement practices caregiving, working, exploring and disengaging. During analysis of meanings assigned by participants to the term "retiree," two definitions emerged one of a "new wave retiree" and the other of a "stagnant retiree." Results suggest that in the post-communist context, retirement practices and meanings assigned to the term "retiree" are in the ongoing process of (re)negotiation and are influenced on the one hand by the activation demands resulting from discourses of active and productive aging, and on the other by habitus and imaginaries of retirement formed in the bygone communist era. Retirement practices and definitions of the term "retiree" that emerged from the data reflect structural and individual inequalities, highlighting intersection of gender, age and socioeconomic status in the (re)production of inequalities in retirement transition in the post-communist context.Perceived ethnic discrimination is known to decrease minorities' life satisfaction. This research investigates the extent to which minorities' local and transnational co-ethnic social ties mitigate the negative effects of perceived discrimination on life satisfaction. Put differently, focusing on the experiences of Turkish and Moroccan minorities, we discuss whether co-ethnic social ties, both locally and transnationally embedded, can be considered as coping mechanisms against perceived discrimination. Furthermore, we investigate whether these mechanisms work differently for first- and second-generation minorities. Using Netherlands Longitudinal Life-course Study, we reveal that perceived discrimination is positively associated with local co-ethnic social ties in Netherlands which consequently predicts higher life satisfaction for both generations. Surprisingly, we also show that only among the second generation perceived discrimination is associated with stronger transnational co-ethnic social ties, but not the first generation. Having these transnational ties however are beneficial for life satisfaction of both generations. Consequently, we highlight the importance of recognizing transnational embeddedness of minorities and studying the effects transnational co-ethnic social ties on subjective well-being outcomes especially for second-generation minorities.The objective of this research was to explore the effect of metformin on the lipoteichoic acid (LTA)-induced mastitis model using isolated primary bovine mammary epithelial cells (PBMECs). The PBMECs were exposed to either 3 mM metformin for 12 h as a metformin group (MET) or 100 μg/mL LTA for 6 h as LTA group (LTA). Cells pretreated with 3 mM metformin for 12 h followed by washing and 100 μg/mL LTA exposure for 6 h served as the MET + LTA group. Phosphate-buffered saline was added to cells as the control group. We performed quantitative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction and Western blot analysis to evaluate the inflammatory and oxidative responses to metformin and LTA by measuring cellular cytotoxicity, mRNA expression, and protein expression.     Holographic neuronavigation has several potential advantages compared to conventional neuronavigation systems. We present the first report of a holographic neuronavigation system with patient-to-image registration and patient tracking with a reference array using an augmented reality head-mounted display (AR-HMD).

    Three patients undergoing an intracranial neurosurgical procedure were included in this pilot study. The relevant anatomy was first segmented in 3D and then uploaded as holographic scene in our custom neuronavigation software.     Preserving peri-implant tissues after immediate implant placement (IIP), especially in aesthetic zones, is a topic of interest.

    This systematic review investigated the effects of currently available surgical procedures for preserving peri-implant tissue or ensuring dimensional stability following immediate implant placement.

    The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement's guidelines were followed, and articles were sought on the PubMed and Cochrane databases with no date restrictions. Only randomised clinical trials that evaluated changes in soft and hard tissues around immediately placed implants were included. Statistical analyses were performed, and the studies´ quality was assessed using the Cochrane Collaboration tool. The agreement between reviewers was assessed based on Cohen's kappa statistics.

    NSPT induced significant reductions of DAS28 (MD 0.61, 95% CI 0.37, 0.85, P < 0.001), TJC (MD 0.65, 95% CI 0.37, 0.93, P < 0.001), SJC (MD 0.67, 95% CI 0.18, 1.17, P = 0.008), VAS (MD 0.48, 95% CI 0.08, 0.88, P = 0.02), and CRP (MD 0.34, 95% CI 0.07, 0.64, P = 0.01) in RA patients with periodontitis. Other parameters showed a trend toward reduction, but results were not statistically significant.

    The purpose of this study was to estimate the prevalence of thin and thick gingival phenotype (GPh) in a sample of Dominican subjects and correlate it with clinical parameters.

    One-hundred seven periodontal healthy volunteers in the range of 18-73 years were enrolled in the study. GPh was defined by the transparency of a periodontal probe through the buccal gingival margin on the upper right or left central incisor. Clinical periodontal parameters such as keratinized gingiva width (WKG), attached gingiva width (WAG), probing depth (PD), plaque index (PI), and gingival index (GI) were recorded by a calibrated examiner. Frequency distribution of qualitative variables was calculated. For quantitative variables, Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used for comparison of groups.

    There was no association between GPh and sex. There were no significant differences between thin and thick GPh regarding age, PD, GI, and interproximal index. The association between tooth morphology and GPh was significant (p = 0.018). Median amount of keratinized gingiva was significantly larger (p = 0.01) in subjects with thin gingival phenotype (median = 6.00 mm) when compared with subjects with thick gingival phenotype (median = 5 mm).

    Coronary microvascular obstruction (MVO) occurs frequently in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). However, mechanisms are multiple and not yet fully understood. Perilipin 2 (PLIN2) is involved in lipid metabolism of macrophages resident in atherosclerotic plaques, along with a role in enhancing plaque inflammation. We studied the association between PLIN2 and MVO in STEMI patients undergoing primary PCI, and we assessed the role of PLIN2 to predict major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs).

    STEMI patients undergoing primary PCI were enrolled. PLIN2 was evaluated in peripheral blood monocytes; MVO was assessed using coronary angiogram. MACEs, as a composite of cardiac death, non-fatal myocardial infarction, re-admission for heart failure, and target vessel revascularization were investigated at follow-up. Among 100 STEMI patients, 33 (33.0%) had MVO. We studied the association between PLIN2 and MVO in STEMI patients undergoing primary PCI, and we assessed the role of PLIN2 to predict major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs). This review introduces new progresses of TCM network pharmacology in recent years, including predicting herb targets, understanding biological foundation of diseases and syndromes, network regulation mechanisms of herbal formulae, and identifying disease and syndrome biomarkers based on biological network. These studies show a trend of combining computational, experimental and clinical approaches, which is a promising direction of TCM network pharmacology research in the future. Considering that TCM network pharmacology is still a young research field, it is necessary to further standardize the research process and evaluation indicators to promote its healthy development.
    Pediatric patients with rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) are treated with multimodal therapy, often with radiation therapy (RT) as part of local therapy. We report on the efficacy and patterns of failure after proton beam therapy (PBT) for RMS.

    Between January 2006 and February 2017, patients with RMS were enrolled in a prospective institutional review board-approved registry protocol for pediatric patients undergoing PBT. Demographics, clinical characteristics, and treatment related outcomes were reviewed.

    Ninety-four RMS patients were treated with a combination of chemotherapy (CT) and PBT. The majority of patients had head and neck (49%) and genitourinary (30%) primaries. Median tumor size was 4.1 cm (range, 1.0-16.5 cm); 33 patients (35%) had primary tumors >5 cm. Median cyclophosphamide equivalent dose was 14.4 g/m

    Scoliosis is a well-recognized complication after abdominal radiation therapy but not reported frequently after craniospinal irradiation (CSI). We examined the incidence and risk factors for scoliosis after CSI in long-term survivors with medulloblastoma.

    The records of patients with medulloblastoma seen at one institution from 1996 to 2006 were analyzed for the use of CSI and development of scoliosis as documented on physical examination and spinal imaging.

    We identified 35 children with medulloblastoma who were ≤12 years of age at time of CSI with a median 14.3 years (range, 5.8-19.3 years) of follow-up. Twenty-seven (77.1%) were male, and median age at CSI was 6.8 years (range, 2.8-12 years). The cumulative incidence of scoliosis at 15 years was 34.6%. The median time to develop scoliosis was 7.1 years (range, 5-11.7 years) after CSI. Treatment with high dose CSI (34.2-40 Gy) and presence of hemiplegia or hemiparesis were found to be risk factors for development of scoliosis.

    Interprofessional education (IPE) is gaining recognition as a means of improving health care delivery and patient outcomes. A primary goal of IPE is improved interprofessional collaboration (IPC). The multidisciplinary team in the radiation oncology clinic requires effective IPC for optimal delivery of radiation therapy. However, there are limited data on IPE and IPC in radiation oncology. This qualitative study aims to characterize IPC in radiation oncology.

    Semistructured phone interviews were performed from June to August 2019 with radiation oncologists, nurses, dosimetrists, radiation therapists, medical physicists, and medical students across a single academic medical center and affiliated network sites. Interviews were recorded, de-identified, and transcribed verbatim. Resulting transcripts were analyzed using thematic analysis.

    Seventeen interviews were performed with 4 radiation oncologists, 2 nurses, 2 dosimetrists, 4 radiation therapists, 2 medical physicists, and 3 medical students. Thematic ggests an unmet need for exposure of radiation oncology medical trainees to IPE with the ultimate goal of improving IPC in the radiation oncology clinic.

    Psoriasis is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease associated with overproduction of interleukin-17A (IL-17A). IL-17A monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) have shown clinical efficacy in psoriasis patients. Although a series of different overlapping mechanisms have been found to establish a link between psoriasis and cardiovascular diseases, the underlying mechanisms of the two types of diseases and the potential efficacy of IL-17A mAbs in amelioration of cardiovascular comorbidities remain unclear.

    Serum samples from two study cohorts including 117 individuals were analyzed using a high-throughput UHPLC-MS platform. Non-targeted metabolic profiling analysis was first conducted with samples from 28 healthy individuals and from 28 psoriasis patients before and after 12-weeks of ixekizumab treatment in study cohort 1. Study cohort 2 was additionally recruited to validate the correlations of the identified metabolites with cardiovascular diseases.

    A total of 43 differential metabolites, including lysophospholrate psoriasis lesions but also restore dysregulated lipid metabolism to normal levels in psoriasis patients. In this study, we aimed to investigate the epidemiology and genotypic diversity of HMPV in children hospitalized with ARTIs in Beijing, China.

    Hospitalized children aged < 14years with ARTIs were enrolled from April 2017 to March 2018; nasopharyngeal aspirates were collected and subjected to real-time polymerase chain reaction tests for HMPV. Among 48 HMPV-positive specimens, A2b (19/48, 39.58%) and B1 (26/48, 54.17%) were the main epidemic subtypes. Patients with HMPV genotype A infection had a higher viral load compared to genotype B patients (6.07 vs. 5.37 log
    RNA copies/ml). Five complete sequences of HMPV were obtained. This is the first report of a whole genome sequence of HMPV-B1 isolated in China.

IL-17A monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) have shown clinical efficacy in psoriasis patients. Although a series of different overlapping mechanisms have been found to establish a link between psoriasis and cardiovascular diseases, the underlying mechanisms of the two types of diseases and the potential efficacy of IL-17A mAbs in amelioration of cardiovascular comorbidities remain unclear. Serum samples from two study cohorts including 117 individuals were analyzed using a high-throughput UHPLC-MS platform. Through numerical simulation and experimental validation, two unique impedance signatures (|ZLF | (60 kHz), |ZHF | (1 MHz)) which are optimal for spheroid growth and viability monitoring are identified. Using a closed-loop recirculation system, it is demonstrated that |ZLF | increases with breast cancer (MCF-7) spheroid biomass, while higher opacity (impedance ratio |ZHF |/|ZLF |) indicates cell death due to compromised cell membrane. Anti-cancer drug (paclitaxel)-treated spheroids also exhibit lower |ZLF | with increased cell dissociation. Interestingly, impedance characterization of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cell differentiation on Cytodex microcarriers reveals that adipogenic cells (higher intracellular lipid content) exhibit higher impedance than osteogenic cells (more conductive due to calcium ions) for both microcarriers and single cell level. Taken together, the developed platform offers great versatility for multi-parametric analysis of spheroids/microcarriers at high throughput (≈1 particle/s), and can be readily integrated into bioreactors for long-term and remote monitoring of biomass and cell quality.The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted autism research and services. Early career researchers (ECRs) are particularly vulnerable to the impact of the pandemic on job security and career development. The goal of this study was to capture the challenges ECRs are facing during the pandemic and the supports that are needed for career development and research. ECRs were invited to complete an online survey that focused on four major areas; the impact of COVID-19 on their research; changes in productivity due to COVID-19; changes to training due to COVID-19; and current mental health. 150 ECRs were eligible and provided sufficient data for inclusion. All but one ECRs reported their research had been negatively impacted by the pandemic. Reductions in productivity were reported by 85% of ECRs. The biggest impacts included recruitment of participants, increased needs at home and personal mental health. ECRs reported a 3-fold increase in burnout, as well as increased anxiety. ECR supports, such as funding, flexibility, and tenure extensions, are required to ensure ASD research does not suffer from a "lost generation" of researchers. LAY SUMMARY The COVID-19 pandemic has had negative impacts on research around the world. Loss of productivity impedes autism research discoveries. However, researchers in the earliest phases of their career, specifically postdoctoral fellows through individuals in assistant professor (or equivalent) positions, are particularly vulnerable to long-lasting effects of pandemic-related disruptions which may limit their ability to continue as autism researchers. This survey highlights the needs of this group and identifies mechanisms by which these early career researchers may be supported in this time. This is critical to ensure the next generation of ASD researchers and clinician scientists continue on the path to advancing understanding of autism in the decades to come.
    A prospective, observational study to describe levels of physical activity in patients with stroke in a comprehensive stroke unit in Sweden and Latvia, comparing data between countries.

    The study was performed at stroke units in one hospital in Sweden (data were acquired over a 2-month period in 2017) and two hospitals in Latvia (data were acquired over a 3-month period between 2016 and 2017). Patients with stroke were observed for 1min every 10min. The level of physical activity, location, and the people present were noted at each time-point.

    A total of 27 patients were observed in Latvia and 25 patients in Sweden. Patients from both countries were in bed half of the time and spent the majority of the day in their bedroom and alone. Patients in Sweden had higher physical activity levels, spent more time outside their bedroom and spent more time with rehabilitation specialists and visitors.

Tumour metastasis and heterogeneity lead to poor survival outcomes and drug resistance in patients with metastatic RCC (****). In this study, we aimed to assess intratumoural heterogeneity (ITH) in **** cells by performing a combined analysis of bulk data and single-cell RNA-sequencing data, and develop novel biomarkers for prognosis prediction on the basis of the potential molecular mechanisms underlying tumorigenesis. Eligible single-cell cohorts related to **** were acquired using the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) dataset to identify potential **** subpopulations. We then performed gene set variation analysis to understand the differential function in primary RCC and **** samples. Subsequently, we applied weighted correlation network analysis to identify coexpressing gene modules that were related to the external trait of metastasis. Protein-protein interactions were used to screen hub subpopulation-difference (sub-dif) markers (ACTG1, IL6, CASP3, ACTB and RAP1B) that might be involved in the regulation of RCC metastasis and progression. Cox regression analysis revealed that ACTG1 was a protective factor (HR 1). Kaplan-Meier survival analysis suggested the potential prognostic value of these sub-dif markers. The expression of sub-dif markers in **** was further evaluated in clinical samples by immunohistochemistry (IHC). Additionally, the genetic features of sub-dif marker expression patterns, such as genetic variation profiles, correlations with tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs), and targeted signalling pathway activities, were assessed in bulk RNA-seq datasets.   • To investigate the effect of a bone substitute material combined with fibroblast growth factor-2 (FGF-2) loaded barrier membrane on the preservation of alveolar ridge after tooth extraction.

    Four dogs were included. Six extraction sockets of each animal received the 3 treatments and were randomly divided into three groups. Group A negative control; Group B bovine xenografts+membrane; and Group C bovine xenografts+FGF-2-loaded membrane. CBCT and histological analysis were performed to evaluate changes in the width and height of alveolar ridges and extraction socket bone healing 8weeks post-extraction.

    CBCT showed that the alveolar bone in Group A was significantly thinner than that in Group B and Group C at 1 and 3mm apically from the alveolar crest. The alveolar width at 1mm in Group C (60.99±15.36%) was significantly thicker than that in Group B (39.75±30.18%). Histomorphmetrical measurements showed that the buccal alveolar width at 1mm was significantly thicker in Groups B and C than in Group A. Additionally, buccal bone height and lingual bone width at 1mm in Group C (87.06±10.34%, 89.09±10.56%) were significantly greater than in Group A (53.48±23.94%, 82.72±12.59%).

We obtained a simplified Chinese NRSS by the standard forward-backward translation procedures and administered it to 486 students who were attending Grade 7-11 in Nanjing, China. Furthermore, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Athens Insomnia Scale, Centre for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale, and Toronto Hospital Alertness Test were also self-completed for measuring sleep quality, insomnia, depression and alertness respectively. The sample was randomly split into two halves, with the first half used to explore the scale structure by exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and the second half used to confirm the identified structure by confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). A total of 481 adolescents (49% male) with a mean age of 16 years (range 13-18) completed this study. In the other half of 250 adolescents, the root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA), standardised root mean square residual, and comparative fit index (CFI) in CFA, which tested the four-factor structure obtained from EFA, were 0.062, 0.051 and 0.975, respectively. Convergent validity was demonstrated from a significant correlation of the simplified Chinese NRSS with sleep quality (r = -0.62), insomnia (r = -0.71), depression (r = -0.60) and alertness (r = 0.54). The internal consistency and test-retest reliability for the global scale were 0.83 and 0.86 respectively. Measurement invariance was established between males and females with the changes of both CFI and RMSEA less then 0.01. The simplified Chinese NRSS is valid and reliable for measuring NRS among Chinese adolescents.
    Distraction tasks that place continuous, high demand on executive resources have been shown to reduce pain intensity and pain unpleasantness ratings in some healthy adult samples. We examined the effects of a high-demand 'working memory' 1-**** task compared to a low-demand 'motor control' task on pain intensity and unpleasantness ratings in healthy children. Additionally, dispositional mindfulness was examined to explore the mechanisms of distraction on the affective processing of pain.

    Fifty-seven children (9-13years old) experienced three randomly presented heat levels (not painful, slightly painful, moderately painful) during two distraction conditions involving different levels of cognitive load (a high load 'working memory' task and a low load 'motor' control task) in counter-balanced order. Children completed measures of dispositional mindfulness, and attentional control and emotional control.

    To investigate the effect of a bone substitute material combined with fibroblast growth factor-2 (FGF-2) loaded barrier membrane on the preservation of alveolar ridge after tooth extraction. Four dogs were included. Six extraction sockets of each animal received the 3 treatments and were randomly divided into three groups. Group A negative control; Group B bovine xenografts+membrane; and Group C bovine xenografts+FGF-2-loaded membrane. CBCT and histological analysis were performed to evaluate changes in the width and height of alveolar ridges and extraction socket bone healing 8weeks post-extraction. CBCT showed that the alveolar bone in Group A was significantly thinner than that in Group B and Group C at 1 and 3mm apically from the alveolar crest. The alveolar width at 1mm in Group C (60.99±15.36%) was significantly thicker than that in Group B (39.75±30.18%). Histomorphmetrical measurements showed that the buccal alveolar width at 1mm was significantly thicker in Groups B and C than in Group A. Additionally, buccal bone height and lingual bone width at 1mm in Group C (87.06±10.34%, 89.09±10.56%) were significantly greater than in Group A (53.48±23.94%, 82.72±12.59%). The present findings indicate that application of bovine bone combined with barrier membrane with or without FGF-2 over tooth sockets can effectively reduce ridge absorption, especially in terms of ridge width and FGF-2 modified membrane seems to improve the outcomes obtained with membrane alone. We obtained a simplified Chinese NRSS by the standard forward-backward translation procedures and administered it to 486 students who were attending Grade 7-11 in Nanjing, China. Furthermore, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Athens Insomnia Scale, Centre for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale, and Toronto Hospital Alertness Test were also self-completed for measuring sleep quality, insomnia, depression and alertness respectively. The sample was randomly split into two halves, with the first half used to explore the scale structure by exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and the second half used to confirm the identified structure by confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). A total of 481 adolescents (49% male) with a mean age of 16 years (range 13-18) completed this study. In the other half of 250 adolescents, the root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA), standardised root mean square residual, and comparative fit index (CFI) in CFA, which tested the four-factor structure obtained from EFA, were 0.062, 0.051 and 0.975, respectively. Convergent validity was demonstrated from a significant correlation of the simplified Chinese NRSS with sleep quality (r = -0.62), insomnia (r = -0.71), depression (r = -0.60) and alertness (r = 0.54). The internal consistency and test-retest reliability for the global scale were 0.83 and 0.86 respectively. Measurement invariance was established between males and females with the changes of both CFI and RMSEA less then 0.01. The simplified Chinese NRSS is valid and reliable for measuring NRS among Chinese adolescents. Data were analyzed from municipalities in Madrid with a population of over 10,000 inhabitants during the period from January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2020. Four groups were generated Urban Metropolitan Center, Rural Northern Mountains, Rural Center, and Southern Rural. The dependent variable used was the rate of daily mortality due to natural causes per million inhabitants (CIE-X A00-R99) between the months of June and September for the period. The primary independent variable was maximum daily temperature. Social and demographic "context variables" were included population >64 years of age (%), deprivation index and housing indicators. The analysis was carried out in three phases 1) determination of the threshold definition temperature of a heat wave (Tumbral) for each study group; 2) determination of relative risks (RR) attributable to heat for each group using Poisson linear regression (GLM), and 3) calculation of odds ratios (OR) using binomial family GLM for the frequency of the appearance of heat waves associated with context variables. The resulting percentiles (for the series of maximum daily temperatures for the summer months) corresponding to Tthreshold were 74th percentile for Urban Metropolitan Center, 76th percentile for Southern Rural, 83rd for Rural Northern Mountains and 98th percentile for Center Rural (98). The yield of CO in the system with obtained NS-g-C3N4 was 5.8 times higher than that of B-g-C3N4. CO was measured to be the sole product detected in the system with NS-g-C3N4, while CO2 can be reduced into CO, CH4 and CH3OH in the system with B-g-C3N4 under the same photocatalytic reduction conditions. The ultrathin nanostructures and abundant surface defect sites of NS-g-C3N4 could enhance the visible light adsorption efficiency, favor the separation and transfer of photogenerated carriers, and provide strong chemisorption sites for CO2, and thus resulting in its remarkable photocatalytic activity to CO2 reduction. More importantly, the surface defects of nanosheet could shift the adsorption mode of CO2 from N-CO2- for the B-g-C3N4 to N-O-CO for NS-g-C3N4, and eventually contributing the selective photoreduction of CO2 to CO. The obtained also NS-g-C3N4 exhibited excellent stability for CO2 photoreduction. No significant change in the photoreduction efficiency of CO2 in the system with NS-g-C3N4 was observed after four cycles. This study could not only provide a novel strategy to realize the high selectivity and efficiency photocatalytic conversion CO2 to CO, but also aims to clarify the interactions between the adsorption model of CO2 on g-C3N4 surface and the selectivity and efficiency of CO2 photoreduction.
    The etiology of follicular lymphoma (FL), a common non-Hodgkin lymphoma subtype, is largely unknown.

    We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies examining the relationship between occupational exposures and FL risk.

    We searched Ovid MEDLINE, Ovid EMBASE, and Web of Science for eligible observational studies examining job titles or occupational exposures prior to January 1, 2020. We performed a narrative synthesis and used random-effects models to generate meta-estimates of relative risk (RR) with 95% confidence intervals (95%CI) for exposures reported by three or more studies.

    Fifty-eight studies were eligible. Ten cohort and 37 case-control studies quantified FL risk in relation to any exposure to one or more occupational groups or agents. Eight cohort and 19 case-control studies examined dose-response relationships. We found evidence of a positive association with increasing plasma concentration of dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene (DDE; meta-RR = 1.51, 95%CI = 0.99, 2 models of lymphomagenesis. Future studies with larger sample sizes and comprehensive quantitative exposure measures may elucidate other avoidable carcinogenic exposures.

Compared with the same period in 2019, the air quality in 2020 was significantly better. The total excellent and good air quality rates increased by 17.58%-90.08% in 2020; concentrations of NO2, particulate matter with a diameter less then 10 μm (PM10) and less then 2.5 μm (PM2.5), and total volatile organic compounds (TVOCs) also decreased by 38.23%, 30.25%, 32.92%, and 39.80%, respectively. Moreover, the number of days with NO2, PM10, and PM2.5 as the primary pollutants decreased by approximately 10%, 9%, and 15%, respectively. We compared the wind direction, wind speed, temperature, and relative humidity in January-April 2020, 2019, 2018, and 2017 and found no obvious correlation between meteorological factors and improved air quality during the 2020 lockdown.

  • The EVs derived from IR-injured heart contribute to both local and systemic inflammation. Importantly, EV inhibition by GW4869 is supposed to be a promising therapeutic strategy for IR injury.Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have drawn huge attention for diagnosing myriad of diseases, including cancer. However, the EV detection and analyses procedures often lack **** desired sample standardization. To address this, we used well-characterized recombinant EVs (rEVs) for the first time as a biological reference material in developing a fiber optic surface plasmon resonance (FO-SPR) bioassay. In this context, EV binding on the FO-SPR probes was achieved only with EV-specific antibodies (e.g. anti-CD9 and anti-CD63) but not with non-specific anti-IgG. To increase detection sensitivity, we tested six different combinations of EV-specific antibodies in a sandwich bioassay. Calibration curves were generated with two most effective combinations (anti-CD9/Banti-CD81 and anti-CD63/Banti-CD9), resulting in 103 and 104 times higher sensitivity than the EV concentration in human blood plasma from healthy or cancer patients, respectively. Additionally, by using anti-CD63/Banti-CD9, we detected rEVs spiked in cell culture medium and HEK293 endogenous EVs in the same matrix without any prior EV purification or enrichment. Lastly, we selectively captured breast cancer cell EVs spiked in blood plasma using anti-EpCAM antibody on the FO-SPR surface.     Peanut allergy (PA) places significant burden on peanut-allergic individuals and their families, yet limited research in the United States has quantitatively examined the impact on peanut-allergic individuals and their families' health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The Peanut Allergy Burden Study (PABS) aimed to quantify the impact of PA on the general and disease-specific HRQoL of children, adolescents, and adults with PA, as well as caregivers of children with PA.

    A cross-sectional survey design was employed to examine the real-world impact of PA in children, adolescents, and adults with PA, and caregivers of children with PA.

    Of 153 adult patients, 102 adolescents, and 382 caregivers of peanut-allergic children (n=382), 6.8% and 24.8% of participants indicated being dissatisfied or somewhat dissatisfied, respectively, with current approaches to avoid or prevent PA reactions. Approximately two-thirds of patients and caregivers indicated that PA interferes at least somewhat with daily living. In ternal and psychosocial burden, in particular, demonstrates significant unmet need for patients with PA and their caregivers. Recent prospective and retrospective studies show that having very low IgE levels, such as those seen in IgE deficiency (IgE less then 2.5 kU/L), is not without clinical consequences. Patients with ultra-low IgE levels have an elevated risk of cancer of any type. These results are in agreement with murine models research which demonstrated that grafted tumors grow faster and bigger on an IgE knockout background. The novel finding that IgE deficiency is a susceptibility factor for cancer, fits very well with the AllergoOncology concept. The reports on a beneficial, cytotoxic function of IgE, in cooperation with its high (FcεRI) and low (FcεRII, CD23) affinity IgE receptors resulting in tumor cell phagocytosis, propose a role of IgE in cancer surveillance. It appears that not only deficiency of serum IgE, but also lack of tissue-bound IgE is important in malignancy susceptibility in these patients. As such, IgE deficient individuals with absent serum and cell-bound IgE as suggested by negative type I hypersensitivity skin tests, are at the highest risk for a malignancy diagnosis. In contrast, IgE deficient individuals with cell-bound IgE depicted through positive type I hypersensitivity skin tests, have lower rates of malignancy diagnosis. Recent prospective and retrospective studies show that having very low IgE levels, such as those seen in IgE deficiency (IgE less then 2.5 kU/L), is not without clinical consequences. Patients with ultra-low IgE levels have an elevated risk of cancer of any type. These results are in agreement with murine models research which demonstrated that grafted tumors grow faster and bigger on an IgE knockout background. In contrast, IgE deficient individuals with cell-bound IgE depicted through positive type I hypersensitivity skin tests, have lower rates of malignancy diagnosis.
