CENP-E inhibition by specific inhibitor GSK923295 results in the disruption of spermatogenesis and cell cycle arrest of spermatogenic cells. Both spermatogonia and spermatocytes are arrested in metaphase and several chromosomes are not aligned at the equatorial plate. We find that CENP-E inhibition leads to chromosome misalignment, the spindle disorganization, and the formation of the aneuploidy cells. Here, we developed a protocol to differentiate mouse embryonic stem cells (ESCs) to renal progenitors in a step-wise manner. Microarrays were used to track the transcriptional changes at each stage of differentiation and we observed that genes associated with metanephros, ureteric bud, and blood vessel development were significantly upregulated as the cells differentiated towards renal progenitors. Priming the ESCs and optimizing seeding cell density and growth factor concentrations helped improve differentiation efficiency. Organoids were used to determine the developmental potential of the renal progenitor cells. Aggregated renal progenitors gave rise to organoids consisting of LTL+/E-cadherin+ proximal tubules, cytokeratin+ ureteric bud-derived tubules, and extracellular matrix proteins secreted by the cells themselves. Over-expression of key kidney developmental genes, Pax2, Six1, Eya1, and Hox11 paralogs, during differentiation did not improve differentiation efficiency. The classical surgical anatomy of the female pelvis is limited by its gynecological oncological focus on the parametrium and burdened by its modeling based on personal techniques of different surgeons. However, surgical treatment of pelvic diseases, spreading beyond the anatomical area of origin, requires extra-regional procedures and a thorough pelvic anatomical knowledge. This study evaluated the feasibility of a comprehensive and simplified model of pelvic retroperitoneal compartmentalization, based on anatomical rather than surgical anatomical structures. Such a model aims at providing an easier, holistic approach useful for clinical, surgical and educational purposes. Six fresh-frozen female pelves were macroscopically and systematically dissected. Three superficial structures, i.e., the obliterated umbilical artery, the ureter and the sacrouterine ligament, were identified as the landmarks of 3 deeper fascial-ligamentous structures, i.e., the umbilicovesical fascia, the urogenital-hypogastric fascia and the sacropubic ligament. The retroperitoneal areolar tissue was then gently teased away, exposing the compartments delimited by these deep fascial structures. Four compartments were identified as a result of the intrapelvic development of the umbilicovesical fascia along the obliterated umbilical artery, the urogenital-hypogastric fascia along the mesoureter and the sacropubic ligaments. The retroperitoneal compartments were named parietal, laterally to the umbilicovesical fascia; vascular, between the two fasciae; neural, medially to the urogenital-hypogastric fascia and visceral between the sacropubic ligaments. The study provides the scientific rational for a model of pelvic retroperitoneal anatomy based on identifiable anatomical structures and suitable for surgical planning and training.Purpose Evaluate the safety and efficacy of adrenal microwave ablation performed with continuous intra-arterial blood pressure monitoring (IABPM) and without alpha-adrenergic blockade (AAB) as pretreatment. Material and methods A single-center, retrospective review of all percutaneous adrenal microwave ablation performed between 2011 and 2018. Microwave ablation was completed on 11 patients, with a total of 15 adrenal tumors with a mean size of 3.3 cm (1.4-6.9 cm) treated metastatic RCC, HCC, esophageal carcinoma, adrenal adenoma. Cases were performed without prior AAB, but with continuous IABPM and rapid intervention using short-acting antihypertensive medications. Results There were no post-procedural episodes of hypertension, no neurological or cardiovascular complications, and no SIR moderate or worse adverse event complications. Mean intraprocedural maximum systolic blood pressure (SBP) was 211 mmHg (range 132-288), with an average increase in SBP of 100 mmHg (range 23-180). A hypertensive crisis (SBP ≥ 180 and/or DBP ≥ 120) occurred in 9 of the 15 procedures (60%) with a mean length of 3.0 min (range 1-12). The technical success rate was 100% (15/15 procedures). The mean follow-up time was 2.4 years (range 0.9-7.7 years), with primary and secondary efficacy rates of 77% and 87%, respectively, and an overall survival of 82%. Conclusion In this single-center retrospective study, microwave ablation of adrenal tumors without AAB was safe and effective when performed with continuous arterial line monitoring of vital signs and the use of short-acting, rapid-onset antihypertensive medications. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography showed a giant pelvic arteriovenous malformation (AVM) fed by the left internal iliac artery (IIA), right IIA, and inferior mesenteric artery. (IMA). The AVM was treated with selective embolization via the left IIA. Time-resolved three-dimensional phase-contrast magnetic resonance imaging (4D-flow MRI) visualized a gradual flow reduction in the left IIA, whereas the flow in the IMA and right IIA increased relatively. After four sessions, the patient experienced symptom relief and the blood level of N-terminal prohormone brain natriuretic peptide decreased. To the best of our knowledge, we present the first reported use of 4D-flow MRI to quantitatively assess flow reduction in the case of pelvic AVM after embolization.Background ALK is the key gene controlling rice gelatinization temperature (GT), which is closely associated with the eating and cooking quality (ECQ) in rice (Oryza sativa L.). To date, at least three ALK alleles are thought to be responsible for the diversity of GT among rice cultivars. The ALKc/SSIIai allele with high activity of the soluble starch synthase IIa (SSIIa) controls high GT, but the accurate functional difference between ALKa and ALKb alleles, both controlling low GT, is not clearly elucidated. Thus, we generated rice near-isogenic lines (NILs) by introducing different ALK alleles into the japonica cultivar Nipponbare (Nip) to clarify the discrepant effects of the two low-GT ALK alleles. Results The results showed that the function of two low-GT alleles (ALKa and ALKb) was different, and a **** lower GT was observed in NIL(ALKb) rice grains compared with that of Nip(ALKa). Moreover, the starches of NIL(ALKb) grains had a higher degree of branching, higher setback, consistence and higher cool pasting viscosity than those of Nip(ALKa). Our chemical and behavioral experiments showed that (3Z,6Z,8E)-dodeca-3,6,8-trien-1-ol is the single component of the pheromone of all the termite species studied, except for Silvestritermes euamignathus. This species produces both (3Z,6Z)-dodeca-3,6-dien-1-ol and neocembrene, but only (3Z,6Z)-dodeca-3,6-dien-1-ol elicits trail-following behavior. Our results indicate the importance of (3Z,6Z,8E)-dodeca-3,6,8-trien-1-ol, the most widespread communication compound in termites, but also the repeated switches to other common pheromones as exemplified by S.

The purpose of this study was to describe the different measures that have been put in place in response to the COVID-19 pandemic by hand surgeons throughout the world. The survey comprised 47 surgeons working in 34 countries who responded to an online questionnaire. We found that the protocols varied in terms of visitors, health professionals in the operating room, patient waiting areas, wards and emergency rooms. We review the findings of systematic reviews and meta-analyses of case-control studies that examine brain functioning and cognitive correlates of adolescent cannabis use using structural and functional neuroimaging tools and standardised neuropsychological tests. We also examine prospective epidemiological studies on the possible effects of adolescent and young adult cannabis use on cognitive performance in adult life and the completion of secondary education. We summarize the findings of studies in each of these areas that have been published since the most recent systematic review. Systematic reviews find that adolescent cannabis use is inconsistently associated with alterations in the structure of prefrontal and temporal brain regions. Meta-analyses reveal functional alterations in the parietal cortex and putamen. Differences in the orbitofrontal cortex predate cannabis use; it is unclear if they are affected by continued cannabis use and prolonged abstinence. Longitudinal and twin studies report larger depears to improve with sustained abstinence. BACKGROUND This retrospective cross-sectional study reports 1 month and 1 year intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) and subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) case fatality rates and their temporal trends in the Czech Republic between 1998 and 2015. METHODS Utilizing the National Register of Hospitalized Patients, we randomly selected 600 patients hospitalized for ICH and 600 patients hospitalized for SAH for each year from 1998 to 2015, and identified those who died, regardless of cause, using the Czech National Mortality Registry. We calculated crude and age-adjusted 1 month and 1 year case fatality rates for ICH and SAH. Long-term trends of the crude rates were analyzed using a one-sided Cochran Armitage test. RESULTS A total of 21,600 cases hospitalized for SAH and ICH (10,800 for each) between 1998 and 2015 were randomly selected for analysis. One month case fatality of SAH overall and in women has decreased by 0.2% (P = .006) and 0.3% per year (P = .04), respectively. Overall 1 year case fatality of SAH has decreased by 0.2% per year (P = .03). One month case fatality rate of ICH overall and in men has decreased by 0.2% (p=0.01) and 0.4% (P = .0007), respectively. One year case fatality of ICH in men has decreased by 0.2% per year (P = .047). Respondents (n = 680) were primarily site directors (89%) at child care centers (83%) participating in CACFP (70%). MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Meals/snacks served, and food/beverage provisions provided to children of age 1-5 years on the day before the survey. ANALYSIS Odds ratios unadjusted and adjusted for the number of meals/snacks using logistic regression. RESULTS Compared with CACFP sites, non-CACFP sites provided fewer meals/snacks; had lower odds of providing vegetables, meats/poultry/fish, eggs, whole grains, and milk; and had higher odds of providing candy, salty snacks, and sugary drinks. After adjusting for the number of meals/snacks, differences were attenuated but remained significant for meats/poultry/fish, milk, candy, salty snacks (centers only), and sugary drinks. Differences emerged in favor of CACFP for flavored/sugar-added yogurt, sweet cereals, frozen treats, and white grains. RESULTS Most participants reported buying more fruits and vegetables (FVs) (91.0%), trying new FV types (82.2%), eating less processed food (69.8%), having more food available at home (81.1%), and perceiving improvements in health (87.9%). Perceptions of affordability were higher among younger adults (P less then .001) and households with 3-5 people (P = .02), with children (P less then .001), and without chronic disease (P = .003). Perceptions of increased FV purchases were higher in households with children (P = .009) and reported overall health improvements were higher among nonwhite participants (P = .04). Perceptions of increased FV purchases and affordability were associated with other positive program outcomes. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS Participants may perceive barriers to purchasing FVs from farmers' markets, which are not fully addressed by the increased purchasing power from a FV incentive. Targeted redesign, outreach, and education may improve program experiences among groups with less positive perceptions. But the underline mechanism has not been well clarified. This study aimed to explore the potential mechanism at the post-transcriptional level. Identification of Differential Expressed Alternative Splicing (DEAS) genes and events and the corresponding functional enrichment analyses were conducted on RKO cells after treated with Aloe vera aqueous extract and its two active components, aloin and aloesin. And RT-qPCR was conducted for validation. Results indicated that they induced 2200, 2342 and 2133 DEAS events, respectively. The GO enrichment and the COG classification results of DEAS genes showed that they were associated with transcription, as well as functions like signal transduction mechanisms. Moreover, DEAS genes related to the two colorectal cancerous pathways, Wnt and Notch pathways, were annotated.

Methods We performed a cross-sectional study with all consenting employees in an indoor Cannabis grow facility in Seattle, WA using a questionnaire. The questionnaire gathered data on respiratory, ocular, nasal, and dermal symptoms. A subset of employees with work-related symptoms underwent repeated cross-shift and cross-week measurement of spirometry, fractional exhaled nitrogen oxide (FeNO), and skin ***** testing for Cannabis sensitization. Exposure to Cannabis dust was classified based on self-described tasks, expert opinion, and exposure monitoring of particulate s the work-week and there was a trend toward cross-week and cross-shift reduced airflow. However, the individualized selection of targets remains a clinical challenge. Objective To combine unilateral STN and contralateral GPi stimulation (STN DBS in one brain hemisphere and GPi DBS in the other) to maximize the clinical advantages of each target while inducing fewer adverse side effects in selected patients with PD because each target has its own clinical effects and risk profiles. Methods We reviewed the clinical outcomes of 8 patients with idiopathic PD treated with combined unilateral STN and contralateral GPi DBS. Clinical outcome assessments, focusing on motor and nonmotor symptoms, were performed at baseline and 6-mo and 12-mo follow-up. We performed the assessments under the following conditions medication on and off (bilateral stimulation on and off and unilateral STN stimulation on). Results Patients showed a significant improvement in motor symptoms, as assessed by the Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale III (UPDRS-III) and Timed Up-and-Go Test (TUG), in the off-medication/on-stimulation state at 6-mo and 12-mo follow-up. Also, patients reported a better quality of life, and their intake of levodopa was reduced at 12-mo follow-up. In the on-medication condition, bilateral stimulation was associated with an improvement in axial symptoms, with a 64% improvement in measures of gait and falls at 12-mo follow-up. No irreversible adverse side effects were observed. The questionnaire gathered data on respiratory, ocular, nasal, and dermal symptoms. A subset of employees with work-related symptoms underwent repeated cross-shift and cross-week measurement of spirometry, fractional exhaled nitrogen oxide (FeNO), and skin prick testing for Cannabis sensitization. Exposure to Cannabis dust was classified based on self-described tasks, expert opinion, and exposure monitoring of particulate s the work-week and there was a trend toward cross-week and cross-shift reduced airflow. Conclusions We found a high prevalence of work-related allergic- and particularly respiratory symptoms in the employees of one indoor Cannabis grow facility in Washington State. A high proportion of employees with work-aggravated symptoms had findings consistent with probable work-related asthma based on high FeNO, airflow obstruction on spirometry, and Cannabis sensitization on skin prick testing. However, the individualized selection of targets remains a clinical challenge. Objective To combine unilateral STN and contralateral GPi stimulation (STN DBS in one brain hemisphere and GPi DBS in the other) to maximize the clinical advantages of each target while inducing fewer adverse side effects in selected patients with PD because each target has its own clinical effects and risk profiles. Methods We reviewed the clinical outcomes of 8 patients with idiopathic PD treated with combined unilateral STN and contralateral GPi DBS. Clinical outcome assessments, focusing on motor and nonmotor symptoms, were performed at baseline and 6-mo and 12-mo follow-up. We performed the assessments under the following conditions medication on and off (bilateral stimulation on and off and unilateral STN stimulation on). Results Patients showed a significant improvement in motor symptoms, as assessed by the Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale III (UPDRS-III) and Timed Up-and-Go Test (TUG), in the off-medication/on-stimulation state at 6-mo and 12-mo follow-up. Also, patients reported a better quality of life, and their intake of levodopa was reduced at 12-mo follow-up. In the on-medication condition, bilateral stimulation was associated with an improvement in axial symptoms, with a 64% improvement in measures of gait and falls at 12-mo follow-up. No irreversible adverse side effects were observed. Results Of those respondents who recalled participating in SpecTRA, 96% strongly agreed, agreed, or were neutral when asked if they received enough information to make an informed decision. Seventy-two percent agreed and 20% were neutral when asked if their study questions were addressed. Results Sixteen patients met the criteria and most patients were middle-aged males who had undergone craniotomy or endonasal trans-sphenoidal surgery. A total of 68.8% Acinetobacter baumannii isolates were XDR bacteria, and 18.8% of isolates were PDR bacteria. Twelve patients were treated by meropenem-based regimen strategy. Another four patients were administered tetracycline-based regimens. A total of 93.8% patients were treated with therapeutic drainage and strict hygiene rules were followed. Finally, 12 patients survived their infections, and the average Glasgow Outcome Scale score was 2.9 ± 1.4 at discharge. The mortality rates of carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) were 8.3%. Conclusions Post-operative central nervous system infections caused by XDR/PDR Acinetobacter baumannii are a rare and serious complication. Methods Two case reports are presented where telemedicine was used effectively and safely after day 1 in person patient education. For statistical analysis, the Mann-Whitney U test was used to identify differences between both groups.

In December 2019, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak began in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China, and rapidly spread worldwide. While diffuse alveolar damage and acute respiratory failure are the main features of COVID-19, other organs may be involved, and the incidence of AKI is not well described. We assessed the incidence and clinical characteristics of AKI in patients with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 and its effects on clinical outcomes.
We conducted a multicenter, retrospective, observational study of patients with COVID-19 admitted to two general hospitals in Wuhan from 5 January 2020 to 21 March 2020. Demographic data and information on organ dysfunction were collected daily. AKI was defined according to the KDIGO clinical practice guidelines. Early and late AKI were defined as AKI occurring within 72 h after admission or after 72 h, respectively.

Our findings show that admission SOFA score was an independent risk factor for AKI in COVID-19 patients, and patients with AKI had higher in-hospital mortality. Moreover, AKI development after 72 h of admission was related to prolonged hospitalization time.
Up to now, tinnitus has been an almost non-treatable symptom affecting more than 18% of the population in industrialized countries. So far, there are only a few studies evaluating the effectiveness of acupuncture in tinnitus treatment, none of which include acute tinnitus (<3 months). The aim of this pilot study was to explore the feasibility of recruitment and adherence to acupuncture conducted according to the principles of traditional Chinese medicine in patients with acute idiopathic tinnitus and to assess effect sizes on subjective and objective outcomes within a randomized controlled design.
After randomization patients of the control group received usual care (n = 23), and patients of the intervention group (n = 25) received 4 additional acupuncture treatments in a 4- to 6-week period. Tinnitus severity was assessed by means of a visual analogue scale as well as standardized and validated tinnitus questionnaires (Tinnitus Functional Index and 12-item Mini Tinnitus Questionnaire) at baseline and ecruitment, although patient adherence to treatment remained challenging. However, considering the small intergroup differences, procedures regarding the numbers of acupuncture sessions and the total period of the acupuncture treatment should be reconsidered. The results of this pilot study provide a good basis for future confirmatory trials.

In this experimental study, chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) was used as a model of depression in 30 rats (Rattus novergicus). Cognitive function was assessed with the Morris water maze and attentional set shifting test.
This study found a significant difference on day 21 in working memory (p = 0.002) and cognitive flexibility (p = 0.036), which continued to day 41 in working memory (p = 0.001) and cognitive flexibility (p = 0.020). Our findings show that admission SOFA score was an independent risk factor for AKI in COVID-19 patients, and patients with AKI had higher in-hospital mortality. Empirical results demonstrate that improved performance of Genetic Algorithm is obtained for the neuropsychological scores after Miss Forest Imputation and for FAQ scores is obtained after subjecting it to the Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique.The Macao Dementia Policy was recognized by Alzheimer Disease International as the 27th globally and one of the highest stage 5 to develop dementia friendly community and primary health professionals are in a pivotal position to enhance community-based dementia prevention and care quality. This study aimed to investigate the knowledge, attitude and preventive practice on dementia care among primary health professionals in Macao. A specially designed 30-item questionnaire was developed and validated for the study. The Content Validity Index (CVI) and Cronbach's α of the questionnaire were 0.973 and 0.808. The questionnaires were distributed to all 375 primary health professionals from 8 Health Centers throughout Macao and 234 valid questionnaires (62.4%) were returned. The score for dementia care knowledge was 87.02±14.01; attitude was 69.52±5.83; preventive practice was 77.88±13.18, of which doctors (79.89±13.77) was significantly higher (t=2.29, p=0.023) than nurses (75.91±12.33). Objectives To evaluate central foveal thickness (CFT) variability and accompanying changes in visual acuity (VA) 12 months before and after treatment with the 190 mcg fluocinolone acetonide (FAc) intravitreal implant for diabetic macular edema (DMO).Methods The Iluvien Clinical Evidence cohort study in the United Kingdom (ICE-UK) investigated the effectiveness of the FAc implant in people treated at 13 hospitals from April 2013 to April 2015. The following parameters were calculated for CFT for each patient mean, standard deviation (SD), retinal thickness amplitude (RTA, difference between maximum and minimum values), and coefficient of variation (CV).Results In 149 eyes with ≥2 CFT observations both before and after FAc implantation, median VA was 50 ETDRS letters at implantation. Searches of multiple databases (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Sociological Abstracts, Sociology Database, Web of Science, Genderwatch, PILOTS, MedLine from PubMed, PsycINFO) were undertaken. There is a significant gap in literature that exists in relation to the lived experience of women diagnosed with postpartum depression who do not identify as mentally ill.This qualitative study explored the day-to-day life of people aged 50+ diagnosed with ADHD. A phenomenological-hermeneutical method was chosen for the analysis. Two themes including sub-themes were revealed. The first theme, Being different and trying to handle my inner self, concerned emotional self-regulation, emotional resilience, social skills, and personal resource management. The second theme, Trying to adapt to fit in with people around me, concerned relationships, work, and personal finances. The comprehensive understanding was interpreted as Being different but striving to seem normal.Importance In the modern-day health care environment, it is expected that a large proportion of patients will utilize the Internet to gather health care-related information. However, online sources are often not subjected to adequate quality control measures. We selected meta-analyses from clinical trials that determined the effectiveness of an intervention in reducing the incidence of mortality in patients with septic shock. All items were extracted from the Overview Quality Assessment Questionnaire (OQAQ), which collects information from both systematic reviews and meta-analyses.Results A total of 34 studies were included. Most elements of the OQAQ were conducted satisfactorily, although 35.3% of meta-analyses did not use a quality assessment of the studies included in other analyses. In 52.9% of meta-analyses, the quality of the studies was high or very high.Conclusions The methods used to obtain the results should be taken into account when recommending an intervention to treat septic shock if the evidence comes from a meta-analysis of the analyzed characteristics.

Most elements of the OQAQ were conducted satisfactorily, although 35.3% of meta-analyses did not use a quality assessment of the studies included in other analyses. Background Stunted growth and development is a serious global public health problem. A limited number of field measures exist that can be used to evaluate stunting and its underlying biologic mechanisms. Purpose To assess bone age using tablet-based US in young children living in a rural community in Ecuador, where stunting is prevalent, and to evaluate the associations between bone age, anthropometry, and diet. Materials and Methods From June through August 2017, tablet-based US was used to assess bone age in young children within their homes in rural Cotopaxi, Ecuador. Bone age z scores (BAZs) were assigned using the standards of Greulich and Pyle. Anthropometric data were collected using international protocols; z scores were generated from World Health Organization Child Growth Standards. Groups were compared using the Student t test. Published data on gadobenate dimeglumine have been somewhat contradictory. Purpose To evaluate the relationship between dosage of gadobenate dimeglumine and SI change at MRI following multiple gadobenate dimeglumine administrations. Materials and Methods In this retrospective study, patients referred for clinically indicated brain MRI from January 2006 through May 2016 were evaluated for inclusion. Eligible patients were between 18 and 90 years old at their baseline brain MRI and had never received a GBCA, had undergone three or more MRI examinations with gadobenate dimeglumine, and had the baseline scan and another brain MRI scan available for comparison. The primary group consisted of patients with four or fewer supratentorial lesions smaller than 3 cm who underwent axial T1-weighted MRI at 1.5 T. One patient had also undergone prior radiation therapy. The secondarye of 0.015% ± 0.004 per 1 mL of gadobenate dimeglumine (R2 = 0.3, P less then .001). Purpose To evaluate molecular MRI with type 1 collagen-specific probe EP-3533 and allysine-targeted fibrogenesis probe Gd-Hyd, MR elastography, and native T1 to characterize fibrosis and to assess treatment response in a rat model of NASH. Materials and Methods MRI was performed prospectively (June-November 2018) in six groups of male Wistar rats (a) age- and (b) weight-matched animals received standard chow (n = 12 per group); (c) received choline-deficient, l-amino acid-defined, high-fat diet (CDAHFD) for 6 weeks or (d) 9 weeks (n = 8 per group); (e) were fed 6 weeks of CDAHFD and switched to standard chow for 3 weeks (n = 12); (f) were fed CDAHFD for 9 weeks with daily treatment of elafibranor beginning at week 6 (n = 14). Differences in imaging measurements and tissue analyses among groups were tested with one-way analysis of variance. The ability of each imaging of 26, 88%; 95% CI 70%, 98%), EP-3533 (20 of 26, 77%; 95% CI 56%, 91%), and native T1 (14 of 26, 54%; 95% CI 33%, 73%). Participants Students (N = 38,538) at a Midwestern university received emails from their health clinic about a stress management program (September - December 2017). Method Three subject lines (Action Instruction only, Gain Frame plus Action Instruction, Non-loss Frame plus Action Instruction) were used. https://www.selleckchem.com/ Each student randomly received one subject line in the first two months and one in the next two months. Email open and click-through rates were measured. Results Emails with the Action Instruction only subject line were more likely to be opened; there was no difference in open rate between the two framed subject lines, and no effect on click-through rates. Conclusion This study supports the benefits of action instructions to encourage behavior change but calls for further research on the effects of frames and action instructions in email subject lines.Objective It is not well understood whether heavy drinking interferes with academics on specific days or if this relationship simply reflects between-student differences. Participants N = 736 college students completed 14 consecutive daily assessments during 7 semesters. Methods Days were classified as non-drinking, moderate drinking, heavy episodic drinking only (HED-only), or high-intensity drinking (HID) days. Multilevel models tested associations between drinking level and academic behaviors. Results Students were more likely to skip class after engaging in HED-only or HID the previous day. On weekdays, students spent more time on schoolwork when they did not drink the previous day and spent less time on schoolwork when they engaged in HED-only and HID the previous day. On weekends, students spent less time on schoolwork after HED-only days. Conclusions Heavy drinking is associated with lower academic effort the next day, highlighting the need for college programs targeting heavy alcohol use prevention and daily decision making.Objective The purpose of the study was two-fold. Participants 316 undergraduate students were recruited in spring of 2016. Methods Surveys distributed to students to gauge rape myth acceptance using McMahon and Farmer's Illinois Rape Myth Acceptance scale along with social group belongingness of sports, Greek life, and other student organizations. Results Data analysis indicated students do not accept rape myths. Data specified no statistical significance, unlike past research, in social group membership such as Greek life and athletics in predicting rape myth acceptance. Conclusion There is a need to further explore social group membership in its various forms to explain rape myths and why patterns of agreement still exist in this population.
