Drosophila, Arabidopsis, Synechocystis, Homo (DASH) cryptochromes belong to the cryptochrome/photolyase family and can act as DNA repair enzymes. In bacteria and fungi, they also can play regulatory roles, but in plants their biological functions remain elusive. Here, we characterize CRY-DASH1 from the green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. We perform biochemical and in vitro photochemical analysis. For functional characterization, a knock-out mutant of cry-dash1 is used. CRY-DASH1 protein is localized in the chloroplast and accumulates at midday. Although the photoautotrophic growth of the mutant is significantly reduced compared to the wild-type (WT), the mutant has increased levels of photosynthetic pigments and a higher maximum photochemical efficiency of photosystem II (PS II). Hyper-stacking of thylakoid membranes occurs together with an increase in proteins of the PS II reaction center, D1 and its antenna CP43, but not of their transcripts. CRY-DASH1 binds fully reduced flavin adenine dinucleotide and the antenna 5,10-methenyltetrahydrofolate, leading to an absorption peak in the UV-A range. Supplementation of white light with UV-A increases photoautotrophic growth of the WT but not of the cry-dash1 mutant. These results suggest a balancing function of CRY-DASH1 in the photosynthetic machinery and point to its role as a photoreceptor for the UV-A range separated from the absorption of photosynthetic pigments.
To identify factors influencing healthcare professionals' engagement in health behaviour conversations with patients.
Cross-sectional survey.
Between April and June 2019, an online survey of 1338 nurses, midwives and healthcare support workers was conducted. The survey assessed whether staff felt comfortable initiating health behaviour conversations with patients about five behaviours (reducing alcohol intake; stop smoking; being more active; reducing their weight; and improving their diet) and barriers to conversation initiation. Health professionals' own health-related behaviours, self-rated health and mental wellbeing, and socio-demographic characteristics were recorded. Logistic regression models were built to assess factors associated with feeling comfortable initiating health behaviour conversations for each topic.
Less than 50% of respondents reported feeling comfortable initiating health behaviour conversations with patients. Female staff, young professionals (18 to 29years), those in lower sterventions to ensure staff are equipped and enabled to hold health behaviour conversations with patients.
We identified those less likely to initiate health behaviour conversations as well as personal and organizational barriers to initiation. This will help to target and tailor interventions to ensure staff are equipped and enabled to hold health behaviour conversations with patients.Talimogene laherparepvec (T-VEC) is a genetically modified herpes simplex virus-1-based oncolytic immunotherapy and has been approved for the local treatment of unresectable (stage IIIB/C and IVM1a) cutaneous melanoma. During T-VEC treatment, tumor response is often evaluated using [18F]2-fluoro-2-deoxy- d-glucose(FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT). In a Dutch cohort (n = 173), almost one-third of patients developed new-onset FDG uptake in uninjected locoregional lymph nodes during T-VEC. In 36 out of 53 (68%) patients with new nodal FDG uptake, nuclear medicine physicians classified this FDG uptake as "suspected metastases" without clinical or pathological confirmation in the majority of patients. These false positive results indicate that new-onset FDG uptake in locoregional lymph nodes during T-VEC treatment does not necessarily reflect progressive disease, but may be associated with immune infiltration. In current clinical practice, physicians should be aware of the high false positive rate of FDG uptake during treatment with T-VEC in patients with melanoma. Therefore, pathological examination of lymph node lesions with new FDG uptake is recommended to differentiate between progressive disease and immune infiltration after treatment with T-VEC.
The variation in amino acid (AA) digestibility and metabolisable energy (ME
) in four spring and four winter faba bean genotypes differing in vicine/convicine (V/C) concentrations grown on two sites was investigated in caecectomised LSL-Classic laying hens. Effects of dehulling one faba bean genotype were also examined. Patients with AKI had longer circulatory pulmonary bypass (CPB) time, and male patients with AKI had higher ET-1 levels than those without AKI. In multivariable logistic regression analysis, the preoperative ET-1 level and CPB time were the independent determinants of AKI, even adjusted by age, sex, and BMI. The preoperative GDF-15 level, CPB time, and RCC transfusion were independent determinants of 30-day mortality plus morbidity.
Preoperative GDF-15 and ET-1 levels as well as intraoperative factors such as CPB time may be helpful to identify short-term operative risks for patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery.

We retrospectively reviewed 24 cases of pediatric viper bites that were admitted to the Pediatric Emergency Department and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of the Bambino Gesù Children Hospital in Rome between 2000 and 2020. Epidemiological characteristics of the children, localization of the bite, clinical and laboratory findings, and treatment approaches were evaluated. The median age of the patients was 4.2 years, with male predominance. Most cases of viper bite occurred in the late summer. Twenty-eight patients with chronic stroke were randomly assigned to either a trunk support group (n = 14) or a trunk restraint group (n = 14) that practiced upper limb training with trunk support and trunk restraint, respectively, based on visual feedback for 30 min per day, three times per week, for 4 weeks. The postural assessment scale for stroke (PASS) was used to assess the stability of patients, and the functional reaching test (FRT) was performed to assess balance. To assess upper extremity function, a range of motion (ROM) test, manual muscle testing (MMT), and Fugl-Meyer assessment-upper limb (FMA-upper limb) were performed. Consequently, both groups showed significant differences before and after training in the PASS, FRT, shoulder flexion ROM, triceps brachii MMT, and FMA-upper limb (p less then 0.05), while the trunk support group showed more significant improvements than the trunk restraint group in the PASS, FRT, and FMA-upper limb (p less then 0.05). Trunk support-based upper limb training effectively improved trunk stability, balance, and upper limb function and is beneficial as an upper limb training method. Providing trunk support is more effective than restricting the trunk; trunk support-based upper limb training is expected to promote voluntary participation when combined with visual feedback.Table olives represent one of the most important fermented products in Greece. Their highly appreciated flavor is directly associated with the volatile composition. However, extensive data on the volatile profile of table olives from Greek cultivars are scarce in the literature. For this reason, the volatile components of industrially fermented table olives from Kalamata, Conservolea and Halkidiki cultivars grown in different geographical areas within Greece were determined using headspace solid-phase microextraction combined with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. More than 100 volatile compounds were identified and distributed over different chemical classes. All samples were rich in esters, alcohols and acids, whereas the samples of cv. Halkidiki were also characterized by increased levels of volatile phenols. Both qualitative and quantitative differences were observed, which resulted in the discrimination of the table olives according to olive cultivar and growing location. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first systematic study on the volatile profiles of table olives from Greek cultivars that also highlights the pronounced effect of olives' growing location.

Through the application of the Water Pollution Emergency Response System (WPERS) in the Changjiang Estuary, it was found that tidal flats significantly affect the trajectory of an oil film, and the deposition of the oil film on tidal flats is remarkable. In this study, the Estuarine Oil Spill Model (EOSM) was developed to simulate the process of the oil film landing on tidal flats. The Lagrangian particle algorithm and oil fate experience algorithms were adopted. An algorithm for generating dynamic shorelines was also involved. Compared to the oil spill algorithm without wet-dry functionality, the spatial distribution of the oil film deposition simulated in the EOSM better matched the reanalysis data of the satellite remote sensing image. This indicated that the dynamic wet-dry switch phenomenon of tidal flats could be involved in the simulation of offshore oil spills to improve the accuracy of accident prediction and ecological loss assessment. PLAIN LANGUAGE SUMMARY On December 30th, 2012, a vessel carrying 400 tons of heavy oil sank in the Changjiang Estuary, China. The heavy oil leaked at around 4 am the next day. In this study, a new oil spill model was developed to simulate the process of an oil film landing on land and tidal flats. An algorithm for generating the dynamic shorelines in an oil spill simulation was adapted for the wet-dry switch of tidal flats. The landing distribution of the oil film in this new model was well matched to the satellite image for this accident. This indicated that the dynamic wet-dry switch phenomenon of tidal flats could be involved in the simulation of oil spills offshore, to improve the accuracy of accident prediction and ecological loss assessment. The research results could provide some new ideas for the development of offshore oil spill simulation technology.Mercury (Hg) is a well-known toxicant which enters the marine environment by both natural and anthropogenic sources. Consumption of fish and other seafood that contain methylmercury (MeHg) is a leading source of Hg exposure in humans. Considerable efforts have been made to mitigate the Hg presence and reduce its risks to humans. In this review the acknowledged methods of mitigation are summarized such as regulation and maximum allowable limits, and culinary treatments. In addition, selected industrial level trials are reviewed, and studies on Hg intoxication and the protective effects of the essential trace element, selenium (Se), are discussed. In view of the available literature, Hg reduction in fish and other seafood on a large industrial scale still is largely unsuccessful. Hence, more research and further attempts are necessary in order to better mitigate the Hg problem in fish and other seafood products.The sperm ultrastructure of Pytho depressus (Pythidae) is described in this study. The sperm are short cells, about 85-90 μm long, with an acrosome consisting of three layers, a cylindrical nucleus, which at its base has the initial region of two mitochondrial derivatives. The flagellum has two well-developed triangular accessory bodies, and a 9 + 9+2 axonemal pattern with accessory tubules provided with 16 protofilaments in their wall. The structure and shape of the accessory bodies are diagnostic characters within the superfamily. The sperm morphology of P. depressus can be easily distinguished from those of Ripiphoridae, Meloidae and Tenebrionidae. Through the application of the Water Pollution Emergency Response System (WPERS) in the Changjiang Estuary, it was found that tidal flats significantly affect the trajectory of an oil film, and the deposition of the oil film on tidal flats is remarkable. In this study, the Estuarine Oil Spill Model (EOSM) was developed to simulate the process of the oil film landing on tidal flats. The Lagrangian particle algorithm and oil fate experience algorithms were adopted. An algorithm for generating dynamic shorelines was also involved. Compared to the oil spill algorithm without wet-dry functionality, the spatial distribution of the oil film deposition simulated in the EOSM better matched the reanalysis data of the satellite remote sensing image. This indicated that the dynamic wet-dry switch phenomenon of tidal flats could be involved in the simulation of offshore oil spills to improve the accuracy of accident prediction and ecological loss assessment. PLAIN LANGUAGE SUMMARY On December 30th, 2012, a vessel carrying 400 tons of heavy oil sank in the Changjiang Estuary, China. The heavy oil leaked at around 4 am the next day. In this study, a new oil spill model was developed to simulate the process of an oil film landing on land and tidal flats. An algorithm for generating the dynamic shorelines in an oil spill simulation was adapted for the wet-dry switch of tidal flats. The landing distribution of the oil film in this new model was well matched to the satellite image for this accident. This indicated that the dynamic wet-dry switch phenomenon of tidal flats could be involved in the simulation of oil spills offshore, to improve the accuracy of accident prediction and ecological loss assessment. In view of the available literature, Hg reduction in fish and other seafood on a large industrial scale still is largely unsuccessful. With the advent of biological therapy in IBD, it is uncertain to what extent 5aminosalicylates (5ASA) are used.
To explore whether or not 5ASA is continued once biological or immunomodulator therapy is initiated, and the outcomes in those who continued the 5ASAs.
We conducted a retrospective cohort study using the population-based University of Manitoba IBD Epidemiologic Database which includes prescription drug dispensation from 1996 through 2018. We assessed outcomes among 5ASA users who continued versus discontinued 5ASA after initiation of anti-TNF therapy or immunomodulators.
In all, 8379 (77%) of persons with IBD received at least one 5ASA dispensation (85% of ulcerative colitis, UC and 68% of Crohn's disease, CD). https://www.selleckchem.com/ There was a reduction in later years, particularly for CD. Simply comparing these patients' responses with those of patients who stayed on the low dose does not likely entail a satisfactory evaluation because the latter patients are usually in a better health condition. Because the available information in the considered trial is too limited to enable a reliable adjustment, we will instead transport data from a fixed dosing trial that has been conducted concurrently on the same target, albeit not in an identical patient population. In particular, we propose an estimator that relies on an outcome model, a model for switching, and a propensity score model for the association between study and patient characteristics. The proposed estimator is asymptotically unbiased if either the outcome or the propensity score model is correctly specified, and efficient (under the semiparametric model where the randomization probabilities are known and independent of baseline covariates) when all models are correctly specified. The proposed method for transporting information from an external study is more broadly applicable in studies where a classical confounding adjustment is not possible due to near positivity violation (e.g., studies where switching takes place in a (near) deterministic manner). Monte Carlo simulations and application to the motivating study demonstrate adequate performance.Cluster randomized trials evaluate the effect of a treatment on persons nested within clusters, with clusters being randomly assigned to treatment. Both designs are also compared with the optimal designs for homogeneous costs and variances (balanced design) and heterogeneous costs and homogeneous variances (cost-conscious design), for a range of variances based upon three published trials. Whereas the MMED is balanced under high uncertainty about the treatment-to-control variance ratio, the MMRED then tends towards a balanced budget allocation between arms, leading to an unbalanced sample size allocation if costs are heterogeneous, similar to the cost-conscious design. To examine nutritional screening methods for children and adolescents with cerebral palsy.
A scoping review was performed using established methodologies. In June 2020 we searched PubMed, Embase, CINAHL Complete, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials to identify articles on tools/methods for nutritional screening of our target groups.
Thirty studies were included, containing various tools/methods used to identify under- and/or overnutrition by weight/height, circumferences, skinfolds, questionnaires, and/or technically advanced or invasive methods. Questionnaires, weight/height, circumferences, and skinfolds were considered feasible based on clinical utility, whereas bioelectrical impedance analysis and blood samples were not.
We identified two screening tools for undernutrition that include no physical measurements, but did not find any screening tools for overweight and obesity. Most of the studies recommended one or more methods, indicating that determining nutritional status most likely includes a combination of methods, not all of which may be feasible in clinical practice.

Receptor-ligand interactions transmit physical forces and signals simultaneously. Previously, we employed a robotic micropipette both in live cell and microbead adhesion studies to explore the adhesion force of biomolecules such as cell surface receptors including specific integrins on immune cells. Here we apply standard computational fluid dynamics simulations to reveal the detailed physical background of the flow generated by the micropipette when probing microbead adhesion on functionalized surfaces. Measuring the aspiration pressure needed to pick up the biotinylated 10 μm beads on avidin coated surfaces and converting it to a hydrodynamic lifting force on the basis of simulations, we found an unbinding force of 12 ± 2 nN, when targeting the beads manually; robotic targeting resulted in 9 ± 4 nN (mean ± SD). We measured and simulated the effect of the targeting offset, when the microbead was out of the axis (off-axis)of the micropipette. According to the simulations, the higher offset resulted in a higher lifting force acting on the bead. Considering this effect, we could readily correct the impact of the targeting offset to renormalize the experimental data. Horizontal force and torque also appeared in simulations in case of a targeting offset. Surprisingly, simulations show that the lifting force acting on the bead reaches a maximum at a flow rate of ~ 5 μl/s if the targeting offset is not very high ( less then 5 μm). Further increasing the flow rate decreases the lifting force. We attribute this effect to the spherical geometry of the bead. We predict that higher flow rates cannot increase the hydrodynamic lifting force acting on the precisely targeted microbead, setting a fundamental force limit (16 nN in our setup) for manipulating microbeads with a micropipette perpendicular to the supporting surface. In order to extend the force range, we propose the offset targeting of microbeads.

Our findings suggest that C. cuneate is a new source for novel anti-hepatitis virus drug development. Dynamic adsorption effects can play a crucial role in bubble formation and stabilization. We hypothesize that microfluidic tools provide direct insights to these effects, and that the final bubble size depends on the intersection of time scales for bubble formation versus adsorption of proteins. We use a microfluidic device to study Laplace pressure-driven formation of bubbles that are stabilized by whey proteins. Bubble behavior is studied as a function of the pressure difference imposed across the pores (P ), and thus the bubble formation time (τ, ranging from μs to s), using highspeed recordings, quasi-static pressure arguments and a semi-empirical coalescence model. We observe two distinct bubble formation regimes, delimited by the pressure difference required to initiate bubble formation in pure water, P = 1400mbar. When P <1400 mbar, protein adsorption is a requisite to lower the surface tension and initialize bubble formation. Individual bubbles (fixed d ~ 25μm) are formed slowly witalescence to a diameter dcoal that increases for lower τ. A minimum time of 0.4 ms is needed to immediately stabilize individual bubbles. Receptor-ligand interactions transmit physical forces and signals simultaneously. Previously, we employed a robotic micropipette both in live cell and microbead adhesion studies to explore the adhesion force of biomolecules such as cell surface receptors including specific integrins on immune cells. Here we apply standard computational fluid dynamics simulations to reveal the detailed physical background of the flow generated by the micropipette when probing microbead adhesion on functionalized surfaces. Measuring the aspiration pressure needed to pick up the biotinylated 10 μm beads on avidin coated surfaces and converting it to a hydrodynamic lifting force on the basis of simulations, we found an unbinding force of 12 ± 2 nN, when targeting the beads manually; robotic targeting resulted in 9 ± 4 nN (mean ± SD). We measured and simulated the effect of the targeting offset, when the microbead was out of the axis (off-axis)of the micropipette. According to the simulations, the higher offset resulted in a higher lifting force acting on the bead. Considering this effect, we could readily correct the impact of the targeting offset to renormalize the experimental data. Horizontal force and torque also appeared in simulations in case of a targeting offset. Surprisingly, simulations show that the lifting force acting on the bead reaches a maximum at a flow rate of ~ 5 μl/s if the targeting offset is not very high ( less then 5 μm). Further increasing the flow rate decreases the lifting force. We attribute this effect to the spherical geometry of the bead. We predict that higher flow rates cannot increase the hydrodynamic lifting force acting on the precisely targeted microbead, setting a fundamental force limit (16 nN in our setup) for manipulating microbeads with a micropipette perpendicular to the supporting surface. Here, we report an RT crystallography technique using a microfluidic protein crystal array device for protein-ligand complex structure analysis. We demonstrate the microfluidic sorting of protein crystals into microwells without any complicated procedures and apparatus, whereby the sorted protein crystals are fixed into microwells and sequentially measured to collect X-ray diffraction data.

Here, taking advantage of the correlation between spikelet length and ovule development in rice (Oryza sativa L.), we studied the transcriptome dynamics of young ovules at three stages, the archesporial cell (AC), the megaspore mother cell (MMC) before meiosis, and the functional megaspore (FM) after meiosis, using expression profiling based on RNA-Seq. Our analysis showed that 5,274 genes were preferentially expressed in ovules during megasporogenesis as compared to ovules at the mature female gametophyte stage. Out of these, 958 (18.16%) genes were AC- and/or ****preferential genes, and represent a significant enrichment of genes involved in hormone signal transduction and plant-pathogen interaction pathways as well as genes encoding transcription factors. The expression patterns of nine genes that were preferentially expressed in ovules of different developmental stages, including the OsERECTA2 (OsER2) receptor-like kinase gene, were confirmed by in-situ hybridization. We further characterized the OsER2 loss-of-function mutant which had an excessive number of female germline cells and an abnormal female gametophyte, suggesting that OsER2 regulates germline cell specification during megasporogenesis in rice. In a percentage of cases, the symbolic connotation of the treatment, even if mostly and intrinsically negative, may actually be a determining factor in the patient's motives for giving consent. On an ethical and medicolegal level, the most critical point is that concerning consent to the treatment by a psychotic subject with a severely compromised ability to comprehend the nature and objective of the proposed therapy, but who nonetheless expresses his consent, for reasons derived from delusional thoughts. In fact, this situation necessarily brings to light the contradiction between an explicit expression of consent, a necessary formality for the commencement of therapy, and the validity of this consent, which may be severely compromised due to the patient's inability to comprehend reality and therefore to accept the proposal of treatment, which is intrinsic to this reality. With the use of an electric current, the symbolic experience associated with anaesthesia, and the connection to convulsions, ECT enters the collective consciousness. In relation to this, ECT is symbolic of these three factors and hooks on to the thoughts, fears, feelings and expectations of delusional patients. We used DT principles to introduce students to the ethical implications of organ transplantation. Students applied DT principles to propose solutions to maximise social justice in liver transplant allocation. METHODS A 150 min interactive workshop was integrated into the longitudinal ethics curriculum. Following a group didactic on challenges of organ donation in the USA supplemented by patient stories, teams of students considered alternative solutions to optimise fairness of organ distribution and ethical implications of changing the current model. Facilitators led students through DT steps of empathy, defining the team's point of view, ideating on potential solutions, prototyping a specific idea and testing the idea through oral presentation, with questions and answers by peers and faculty. The curriculum was evaluated with presurveys and postsurveys including quantitative and open-ended items. RESULTS 100 first year medical students participated.

We used DT principles to introduce students to the ethical implications of organ transplantation. Students applied DT principles to propose solutions to maximise social justice in liver transplant allocation. METHODS A 150 min interactive workshop was integrated into the longitudinal ethics curriculum. Following a group didactic on challenges of organ donation in the USA supplemented by patient stories, teams of students considered alternative solutions to optimise fairness of organ distribution and ethical implications of changing the current model. Facilitators led students through DT steps of empathy, defining the team's point of view, ideating on potential solutions, prototyping a specific idea and testing the idea through oral presentation, with questions and answers by peers and faculty. The curriculum was evaluated with presurveys and postsurveys including quantitative and open-ended items. As part of clinical wound assessment in bovine surgery, discrepancies in skin temperature are evaluated by placing the **** of the hand on the area to be examined. Generally, an increased skin temperature at the wound site for a prolonged period is considered as an indicator of impaired wound healing. The aim of this study was to verify the reliability of palpation under bovine practice conditions using laparotomy as an example. Fourteen cows (German Holstein) with a left displacement of the abomasum (LDA) without other severe concurrent diseases were examined preoperatively and once daily for ten days after surgery. The skin temperature of the wound site in the right flank was assessed by palpation, followed by thermographic evaluation using an infrared camera after a 45-min acclimatisation period, under standardised conditions in a closed examination room daily for 10 days.
All the incisions healed without clinical detectable perturbances. The ambient temperature range during the study period was 7.8 - al hyperthermia at the wound site.
The infrared thermography provides a more reliable assessment of temperature changes at the wound site in comparison to manual palpation. The ambient temperature markedly affects the extent of local hyperthermia at the wound site.

Cell culture, cytotoxicity and apoptosis assay, siRNA transfection, Western blot, RT-PCR, Soft-agar colony formation, and migration assay, Chromatin immunoprecipitation (Chip), animal xenograft model studies and statistical analysis were applied in this study.
We demonstrate that SMAD1 is highly expressed in myeloma cells of MM patients with advanced stages or relapsed disease, and is associated with significantly shorter progression-free and overall survivals. Mechanistically, we show that SMAD1 is required for TGFβ-mediated proliferation in MM via an ID1/p21/p27 pathway. TGF-β also enhanced TNFα-Inducedtrategy to treat drug resistance MM through targeted inhibition of SMAD1.
Patients with osteoporosis have a high risk of implant loosening due to poor osteointegration, possibly leading to implant failure, implant revision, and refracture. RNA interference therapy is an emerging epigenetic treatment, and we found that miR-20a could enhance osteogenesis. Moreover, small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) derived from bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hBM-****) were utilized as nanoscale carriers for the protection and transportation of miR-20a (sEV-20a). In this study, we intended to determine whether sEVs overexpressing miR-20a could exert a superior effect on osteoporotic bone defects and the underlying mechanism.
For evaluating the effect of sEV-20a on osteogenesis, in vitro and in vivo studies were performed. To describe how a general-practitioner-delivered community medical abortion service is provided in Ireland, including a description of the unique model of care delivered within the framework of new legislation. To investigate the characteristics and contraceptive choices of women attending in the first six months of the service.
Twenty-seven general practitioners conducted a retrospective chart review. We described the service and analyzed demographic characteristics, treatment outcomes, adverse events, and contraception use. We defined treatment success as complete abortion without surgical intervention.
Twenty-seven general practitioners from the Southern Task Group on Abortion and Reproductive Topics (START) group collected data from 475 women who had attended requesting medical abortion from January 1st 2019 to June 30th 2019. Out of these, 315 (66%) were more than 25 years old, and 261 (55%) had at least one child. The mean gestational age at initial presentation was 49 days. Five (1%) had a gestatssible model of care is demonstrated. These findings can help inform legislative review, clinical guidelines, and generate hypotheses for future research.

Design In this cross-sectional survey study, we gathered information on women's history of births and abortions, previous use and satisfaction with contraceptive methods, and features of contraceptive methods they value most. Women were recruited at public family planning and outpatient abortion clinics in the capital region of Helsinki, Finland.
Of the 1006 women responding, 502 were recruited during visits for abortion care and 504 for contraceptive counseling. Women seeking abortion care more often had a history of abortion than women seeking contraceptive counseling (44% vs 11%), presented with a higher mean number of different contraceptive methods used (69% vs 55% with more than 2 previous methods), and were less often satisfied with the methods used (36% vs 60% satisfied with 2 out of 3 methods), p < 0.001 for all. In addition, women seeking abortion care had lower odds of prioritizing effectiveness (aOR 0.3, 95% CI 0.2-0.5), and higher odds of prioritizing lower hormonal levels or non-hormonal alternatives (aOR 2.0, 95% CI 1.3-3.2). There was no difference between the groups regarding priorities of lesser pelvic pain (aOR 0.7, 95% CI 0.5-1.1), regular period (aOR 01.2, 95% CI 0.8-1.9), or the method being easy to use (aOR 1.2, 95% CI 0.8-1.8).

We audio-recorded the interviews and they were transcribed verbatim. We analyzed our interview data using inductive and deductive coding.

Of 130 invited, 66 (51%) agreed to participate, 39 of whom were heterosexual young men; 87% were non-Hispanic Black and 59% were aged 20 to 24. Eleven (28%) perceived one or more coercive pregnancy behaviors by a partner and nine (23%) engaged in one or more coercive behavior. Most (58%) agreed women are responsible for birth control decisions, but 55% believed women could not be trusted to tell the truth about contraceptive use and 68% believe women would like to get pregnant.

The tunneling delay times are thus nonnegligible and imply that the DNA mutations can be resolved using the attosecond laser technology, if not the femtosecond technology. Our results can be relevant also for other tunneling-enabled biological processes.
