The changes of microbial biomass carbon, soil physical and chemical properties in wetlands were compared, and redundancy analysis was used to analyze the correlation between soil physical and chemical properties, microbial biomass carbon and enzyme activities (soil sucrase, catalase, amylase and urease). The differences of soil enzyme activities and its influencing factors under different flooding conditions in Ili Valley were studied and discussed. A total of 1,776 individuals presenting with uncomplicated malaria at hospitals selected from four malaria transmission zones in Kenya between 2008 and 2014 were enrolled in a prospective surveillance study assessing the epidemiology of malaria drug resistance patterns. Demographic and clinical information per individual was obtained using a structured questionnaire. Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is a monogenetic, multisystem disorder characterized by benign growths due to TSC1 or TSC2 mutations. This German multicenter study estimated the costs and related cost drivers associated with organ manifestations in adults with TSC.
A validated, three-month, retrospective questionnaire assessed the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics, organ manifestations, direct, indirect, out-of-pocket (OOP), and nursing care-level costs among adult individuals with TSC throughout Germany from a societal perspective (costing year 2019).
We enrolled 192 adults with TSC (mean age 33.4 ± 12.7years; range 18-78years, 51.6% [n = 99] women). Reported TSC disease manifestations included skin (94.8%) and kidney and urinary tract (74%) disorders, epilepsy (72.9%), structural brain defects (67.2%), psychiatric disorders (50.5%), heart and circulatory system disorders (50.5%), and lymphangioleiomyomatosis (11.5%). TSC1 and TSC2 mutations were reported in 16.7% and 25% of respondents, rtotal indirect costs, whereas epilepsy, psychiatric disease, and disability were independent cost-driving factors for nursing care costs.
This three-month study revealed substantial direct healthcare, indirect healthcare, and medication costs associated with TSC in Germany. This study highlights the spectrum of organ manifestations and their associated treatment needs in the German healthcare setting.

The BOLA gene family, comprising three members, is mainly involved in regulating intracellular iron homeostasis. Emerging evidence suggests that BolA family member 2 plays a vital role in tumorigenesis and hepatic cellular carcinoma progression. However, there was less known about its role in ovarian cancer.
In the present study, we investigated the expression profiles, prognostic roles, and genetic alterations of three BolA family members in patients with ovarian cancer through several public databases, containing Oncomine and Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis, Human Protein Atlas, Kaplan-Meier plotter and cBioPortal. Then, we constructed the protein-protein interaction networks of BOLA proteins and their interactors by using the String database and Cytoscape software. In addition, we performed the Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment by the Annotation, Visualization, and Integrated Discovery database. Finally, we explored the mechanisms untment options for ovarian cancer.
Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes (CFRD) is a frequent comorbidity of patients with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). A worsening of clinical conditions appears before CFRD. It has been demonstrated a decline in pulmonary function and nutritional status also in patients with prediabetes. Few trials show that insulin may be beneficial in prediabetic CF patients, to date guidelines do not recommend for this condition.
We report a case of a patient treated with insulin glargine at 13 years, due to glycemic intolerance, and with Lumacaftor/Ivacaftor at 15 years. A reduction of pulmonary exacerbations was observed after glargine therapy, also confirmed after the starting of Lumacaftor/ Ivacaftor in this patient. Pulmonary function improved only after the first year of glargine therapy, then a deterioration appeared due to the natural history of CF lung damage. During the COVID-19 lockdown, poor adherence to care contributed to diabetes mellitus onset needing high insulin requirements. After two weeks the patient returned to prediabetic condition and his previous dose of glargine.

Candidate proteins were scored according to six biological features subcellular localization, antigen similarity, antigenicity, mature epitope density, virulence, and adhesion probability. In the RV analysis, a total 32 candidate antigens were picked out. Of these, three proteins were selected for assessment of immunogenicity and preliminary protection in a mouse model outer membrane protein Omp19 (used as a positive control), type IV secretion system (T4SS) protein VirB8, and type I secretion system (T1SS) protein HlyD. These three antigens with a high degree of conservation could induce specific humoral and cellular immune responses. Omp19, VirB8 and HlyD could substantially reduce the organ bacterial load of B. abortus S19 in **** and provide varying degrees of protection. In this study, we demonstrated the effectiveness of this unique strategy for the screening of potential broad-spectrum antigens against Brucella. Further evaluation is needed to identify the levels of protection conferred by the vaccine antigens against wild-type pathogenic Brucella species challenge.
This study aimed to provide a summary of the measures to assess narcoleptic symptoms or complications in pediatric narcolepsy patients.
We searched in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) for measures of narcoleptic symptoms for pediatric patients. Further review was conducted if relevant questionnaires or information were mentioned.
There were only two narcolepsy-specific questionnaires, the narcolepsy severity scale and Ullanlinna Narcolepsy Scale, neither of them was developed or validated in the pediatric population. For cataplexy, all the measures were study-specific diaries and were not validated questionnaires. For excessive daytime sleepiness, the Epworth Sleepiness Scale was most frequently used to measure excessive daytime sleepiness in children. For nighttime sleep, the Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire was most frequently used. For depression, the Children Depression Inventory was the most frequently used. For attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, the Child Behavior Checklist was the most frequently used.

Our primary findings show that rats with lesions to p-dmCPu had a blunted goal-tracking response to a non-contingent nicotine administration after 20 consecutive days of nicotine-sucrose pairing. This model of IES-2 scores showed adequate internal consistency and good test-retest reliability up to three weeks. Evidence of construct validity was good in terms of a global IES-2 factor, and broadly supported in terms of its specific-factors. It was found that the presence of PAAm increased the tensile and compression strength of the gelatin-based ink. Moreover, silver nanoparticles endowed the antibacterial properties to the gelatin-based ink and were able to shield the UV irradiation and damages to rat skin. In addition, this ink showed the shear thinning property; Consequently it succeeded in printing complex 3D scaffolds such as the cube, five-pointed star, flower, and university logo of "SEU". Volcanic activity is one of the main sources of natural nanoparticles. It has been found earlier that the concentration of toxic metals/metalloids in nanoparticles of volcanic ash may be one or two orders of magnitude higher than in bulk sample. However, fate and behavior of toxic metals/metalloids depend on the type of their binding to nanoparticles. Hence, element species adsorbed onto pyroclastic nanoparticles and individual nanophases of metal/metalloid oxides or salts should be distinguished. For the first time, the single particle inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry has been applied to the nanospeciation of volcanic particles. Ashes of four volcanoes of Kamchatka (Russia) were under study. Nanoparticles were separated from bulk ash samples using coiled-tube field-flow fractionation. It has been shown that the nanospeciation of Ni, Zn, Ag, Cd, Tl, As, Pb, Bi, Te, and Hg is dependent on element and volcano. In most cases these elements can be found both as species absorbed onto pyroclastic nanoparticles and as individual nanophases. The ratios of individual nanophases and adsorbed species vary with the sample. In nanoparticles of Tolbachik volcano ash, Ni, Zn, Tl, and Hg are present only as individual nanophases, while Bi, As, Pb, Ag, Cd, and Te are found both as adsorbed species and individual nanophases. The results obtained open a new door into study on the chemical composition of volcanic ash nanoparticles and their fate in the environment.To investigate the bioaccumulation behavior of dodecamethylcyclohexasiloxane (D6, CAS number 540-97-6) in fish, an OECD-305 style dietary bioaccumulation study of D6 in rainbow trout was conducted in the presence of non-metabolizable reference chemicals. The dietary uptake absorption efficiency of D6 was 14 (3 SE) % and lower than that of the reference chemicals which ranged between 22 (2 SE) to 60 (8 SE) %. The concentration of D6 in the body of the fish showed a rapid 40% drop during the first day of the depuration phase, followed by a slower decline during the remainder of the depuration period. The overall depuration rate constant of D6 was 0.016 (0.0026 SE) d-1 and significantly greater than those of PCB153 and PCB209, which were not significantly different from zero. During the depuration phase, when fish body weight did not significantly change over time, depuration of D6 appears to be almost entirely due to biotransformation in the body of the fish. The biomagnification factor of D6 in rainbow trout was 0.38 (0.14 SE) kg-lipid kg-lipid-1, indicating a lack of biomagnification. The bioconcentration factor (BCF) of D6 in Rainbow trout was estimated at 1909 (483 SE) L kg-1 wet for natural waters of mostly oligotrophic lakes in Northern Canada with an average concentration of total organic carbon of 7.1 mg L-1. Comparing the bioaccumulation profile of D6 to that of 238 similar profiles for 166 unique chemicals indicates that the bioaccumulation capacity of D6 is markedly less than that of many very hydrophobic organochlorines.A novel Si-Mn binary modified biochar composite material (SMBC) was prepared after being sintered 450 °C for 2 h. The crystal structure, surface functional groups, surface morphology and element composition, specific surface area and pore structure were characterized by XRD, FTIR, XPS, SEM + EDS and BET etc. The results showed that the surface of SMBC was rough and loose, and the specific surface area increased to 35.4284 m2/g. Si and Mn were uniformly attached to the surface of biochar in the form of SiO2, MnOx, MnSiO3. Batch adsorption experiments showed that SMBC had a higher removal efficiency (139.06 mg/g, above 98%) for Cu(II) when the dosage was 2 g/L and pH = 6. The cycle experiments showed that SMBC had good reusability, and its regeneration efficiency still reached 80.24%. The leaching amount of Mn (0.65 mg/L) was greatly reduced and avoid second-pollution resulted from ion exchange, which was attributed to the existence of Si-O-Mn bonds, and they could help Mn adhere to the surface of biochar more stable. The adsorption process was dominated by single-layer chemical adsorption and mainly occurred in the membrane diffusion stage. Cu(II) mainly formed -COOCu, -OCu, Cu(OH)2, Cu(OH)2CO3, Si-O-Cu, Mn-O-Cu by the mechanisms such as precipitation (4.74%), ion exchange (13.81%), complexation and physical adsorption (total 81.45% of the two mechanisms). Among them, complexation was dominant in the adsorption process.The global spread of mobilized colistin resistance (mcr) genes in clinical and natural environments dangerously diminishes the effectiveness of this last-resort antibiotic, becoming an urgent health threat. We used a multidisciplinary approach to detect mcr-1 gene and colistin (CL)-resistant bacteria in seawater from two Croatian public beaches. Illumina-based sequencing of metagenomic 16S rRNA was used to assess the taxonomic, functional, and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) profiling of the bacterial community tolerant to CL regarding different culture-based isolation methodologies. Data revealed that the choice of methodology alters the diversity and abundance of taxa accounting for the CL-resistance phenotype. The mcr-1 gene was identified by cloning and sequencing in one sample, representing the first report of mcr-1 gene in Croatia. Culturing of CL-resistant strains revealed their resistance phenotypes and concurrent production of clinically significant β-lactamases, such as CTX-M-15, CTX-M-3 and SHV-12. We also report the first identification of blaCTX-M-15 gene in Klebsiella huaxiensis and K. michiganensis, as well as the blaTEM-1+CTX-M-3 in Serratia fonticola. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/fen1-in-4.html ARGs profiles derived from metagenomic data and predicted by PICRUSt2, showed the highest abundance of genes encoding for multidrug efflux pumps, followed by the transporter genes accounting for the tetracycline, macrolide and phenicol resistance. To analyze the therapeutic effect and prognostic factors of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients with distant metastases at initial diagnosis receiving induction chemotherapy with intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT).
A total of 129 patients who underwent platinum-based induction chemotherapy followed by definitive IMRT with or without concurrent or adjuvant chemotherapy for newly diagnosed distant metastatic NPC in our center between March 2008 and November 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. 41 patients underwent local therapy for metastatic sites. Kaplan-Meier method was used to estimate survival rates, Log-rank test and Cox proportional hazards model were used to figure out independent prognostic factors of overall survival (OS).
A total of 66patientshad been dead(medianfollow-uptime, 51.5months). The median overall survival (OS) time was 54.2 months (range, 7-136 months), and the 1-year, 2-year, 3-year, 5-year overall survival rates were 88.0%,71.0%,58.0%, and 47.0%. XRCC1 (X-ray repair cross-complementing protein 1) expression and its single nucleotide polymorphism XRCC1 rs25487 (G>A) may be related to radiotherapy-related cancer prognosis or radiation-induced side effects. However, this association is controversial. We performed a bioinformatic analysis and a meta-analysis to obtain comprehensive results.
TCGA data sets and eligible publications published before November 31, 2020 were retrieved by searching the PubMed, Web of Science and CNKI (China National Knowledge Infrastructure) databases. ORs (odds ratios) and HRs (hazard ratios) with their corresponding 95% CIs (confidence intervals) were calculated to evaluate associations. For XRCC1 single nucleotide polymorphisms, we employed three types of comparisons GA vs GG, AA vs GG and GA+AA vs GG.
Sixty nine articles with 10232 patients and 17 TCGA data sets with 2705 patients were included in the analysis. We observed that high XRCC1 expression was associated with an increased risk of minor treatment response ient statistical power and more detailed clinical parameters.

Telerehabilitation (TR) may be useful for rehabilitation therapy after stroke. However, stroke is a heterogeneous condition, and not all patients can be expected to derive the same benefit from TR, underscoring the need to identify predictors of response to TR.
A prior trial provided patients with 6 weeks of intensive rehabilitation therapy targeting arm movement, randomly assigned to be provided in the home via TR (current focus) or in clinic. Eligible patients had moderate arm motor deficits and were in the subacute-chronic stage post stroke. Behavioral gains were measured as change in the arm motor Fugl-Meyer score from baseline to 30 days post therapy. Although new therapeutic options continue to improve disease-related outcomes in advanced breast cancer (ABC), enhanced focus is needed to improve quality of life for patients currently living with ABC.
In November 2019, a multidisciplinary workshop to explore patient perceptions of their information and support needs was held at the ABC Global Alliance Annual Meeting in Lisbon, Portugal. Ninety-two attendees from 27 countries participated in the workshop.
Several key unmet needs were identified and discussed in the workshop, including the following (1) Significant patient knowledge gaps exist related to the diagnosis and management of ABC, and the availability of patient-focused information to support these gaps in knowledge remains limited. (2) The development of meaningful relationships between patients and health care professionals, and the role of patients in decision making, is often overlooked for patients with ABC. (3) Multidisciplinary care approaches are crucial for patients with ABC; however,esolved until tangible action is taken. Issues highlighted in the workshop should be prioritized by working groups to shape the development of community-based solutions. There is a need for the global community to act proactively to maximize awareness of these ongoing unmet needs and existing resources, while socializing and building new initiatives and resources that will help to close these gaps for patients.
It is established that addition of systemic therapy to locoregional treatment for breast cancer improves survival. However, reliable data are lacking about the outcomes of such treatment in women with breast cancer in low middle-income countries. We compared the outcomes of treatment in patients who had received neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) or adjuvant chemotherapy and examined the factors associated with breast cancer recurrence and survival at the National Radiotherapy Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Centre, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Ghana.
This was a retrospective cohort study. The medical charts of women with breast cancer managed at the National Radiotherapy Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Centre from 2005 to 2014 were reviewed. These clusters, which correspond to the size of the Au13 cluster, coalesce to form nanocrystals. These estimates are qualitatively good and quantitatively accurate also in parameter scales that are realistic for biological tissues.Multi-modal neuroimages, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET), can provide complementary structural and functional information of the brain, thus facilitating automated brain disease identification. Incomplete data problem is unavoidable in multi-modal neuroimage studies due to patient dropouts and/or poor data quality. Conventional methods usually discard data-missing subjects, thus significantly reducing the number of training samples. Even though several deep learning methods have been proposed, they usually rely on pre-defined regions-of-interest in neuroimages, requiring disease-specific expert knowledge. To this end, we propose a spatially-constrained Fisher representation framework for brain disease diagnosis with incomplete multi-modal neuroimages. We first impute missing PET images based on their corresponding MRI scans using a hybrid generative adversarial network. With the complete (after imputation) MRI and PET data, we then develop a spatially-constrained Fisher representation network to extract statistical descriptors of neuroimages for disease diagnosis, assuming that these descriptors follow a Gaussian mixture model with a strong spatial constraint (i.e., images from different subjects have similar anatomical structures). A two stage hybrid machine learning tool called functional random forest (FRF) was applied as a classification approach and then subsequently that the subgroups and TD participants significantly differed within and between multiple functional brain networks, but no consistent "severity" patterns of over or under connectivity were observed between subgroups and TD. CONCLUSION The FRF estimated hyperactive/inattentive symptoms and identified 2 distinct subgroups per model, revealing distinct neurocognitive profiles of Severe and Mild EF performance per model. Differences in functional connectivity between subgroups did not appear to follow a severity pattern based on symptom expression, suggesting a more complex mechanistic interaction that cannot be attributed to symptom presentation alone. There were no significant group differences with regard to behaviour. RTHβ subjects displayed significantly reduced ERN and Pe amplitudes compared to the controls in the response-locked ERPs. In addition, we observed reduced P3 amplitudes in both congruent and incongruent trials, as well as prolonged P3 latencies in RTHβ subjects in the stimulus-locked ERPs.
These estimates are qualitatively good and quantitatively accurate also in parameter scales that are realistic for biological tissues.Multi-modal neuroimages, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission tomography (PET), can provide complementary structural and functional information of the brain, thus facilitating automated brain disease identification. Incomplete data problem is unavoidable in multi-modal neuroimage studies due to patient dropouts and/or poor data quality. Conventional methods usually discard data-missing subjects, thus significantly reducing the number of training samples. Even though several deep learning methods have been proposed, they usually rely on pre-defined regions-of-interest in neuroimages, requiring disease-specific expert knowledge. To this end, we propose a spatially-constrained Fisher representation framework for brain disease diagnosis with incomplete multi-modal neuroimages. We first impute missing PET images based on their corresponding MRI scans using a hybrid generative adversarial network. With the complete (after imputation) MRI and PET data, we then develop a spatially-constrained Fisher representation network to extract statistical descriptors of neuroimages for disease diagnosis, assuming that these descriptors follow a Gaussian mixture model with a strong spatial constraint (i.e., images from different subjects have similar anatomical structures). Central nervous system (CNS) infectious diseases are common diseases in emergency rooms and neurology departments. CNS pathogen identification methods are time consuming and expensive and have low sensitivity and poor specificity. Some studies have shown that bacteria and viruses can produce specific volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The aim of this study is to find potential biomarkers by VOC analysis of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in patients with bacterial and viral meningitis/encephalitis (ME).
CSF samples from 16 patients with bacterial ME and 42 patients with viral ME were collected, and solid-phase microextraction combined with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry was used to analyze the metabolites in the CSF.
There are 2 substances (ethylene oxide and phenol) that were found to be different between the 2 groups. Ethylene oxide was significantly greater in the group of bacterial ME patients than in the viral ME group of patients (p < 0.05). In addition, phenol was remarkably increased in the group of ME patients compared with the bacterial ME patients (p < 0.05).
Ethylene oxide and phenol may be potential biomarkers to distinguish bacterial ME and viral ME. VOC analysis of CSF may be used as a supporting tool for clinical diagnosis.

The basic pathophysiologic derangement of chronic kidney disease (CKD) begins with the loss of nephrons, leading to renal hemodynamic changes, eventually causing a reduced nephron count and renal hypoxia. The purpose of this study was to observe the renal oxygenation and renal hemodynamics of patients with CKD using blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and intrarenal Doppler ultrasonography (IDU).
The study enrolled 39 patients with stage 1-4 CKD and 19 healthy volunteers (HVs). Based on their estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), CKD patients were divided into 2 subgroups a mild renal impairment (MI) group and a moderate to severe renal impairment (MSI) group. We monitored the participants' mean cortical T2* (COT2*) and mean medullary T2* (MET2*) values on BOLD-MRI, and measured the peak systolic velocities (PSVs), end-diastolic velocities (EDVs), renal resistive index (RI), and kidney length by IDU. We also recorded clinical indicators such as age, sex, body mund declined as the CKD stage progressed. The BOLD-MRI and IDU techniques may have clinical value by measuring intrarenal oxygenation and renal blood perfusion to judge the severity of renal damage in patients with CKD.

About 8% of children born small for gestational age (SGA) do not reach a final height within the normal range. Recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) has been shown to be effective in increasing the final height in children born SGA. Our objective was to identify predictive factors of final height in children born SGA treated with rhGH.
In this retrospective study, conducted in a tertiary pediatric endocrinology referral center, we recruited all patients born SGA (defined as birth length or weight <10th percentile) treated with rhGH for more than 12 months for whom final height data were available. Some patients had received gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analog therapy.
We included 252 patients with an average birth length of -2.0 ± 0.7 SD and birth weight of -1.7 ± 1.0 SD. After 4.6 ± 2.8 years of rhGH treatment, their height increased from -2.2 ± 0.9 SD to -1.5 ± 0.9 SD. In multivariate analysis, we identified 8 factors that predict 46% of the final height, namely, cause of SGA (p < 0.0001), GnRH analog therapy >2 years (p = 0.006), birth length (p < 0.02), height at the start of rhGH (p < 0.0001), IGF-1 level at the start of rhGH (p = 0.0002), growth velocity during the 1st year of treatment (p = 0.0002), and age and height at the onset of puberty (p < 0.0001, p = 0.0007, respectively).

In stage II, binary logistic regression was used to evaluate the multimorbidity effect on future disability.

Four patients underwent hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) for STAT3 GOF, DOCK8 deficiency and CID in one, one, and two cases, respectively (median age 10 years). At the last follow-up, all transplanted patients were alive. Reporting on patients' phenotype, genotype and course of disease shed light on the prevalence, characteristics, and pathophysiology of HM complicating PID. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of lycopene with or without corn supplementation on circulating hormones, white blood cells, immunoglobulin G (IgG) concentrations, quality of colostrum in pregnant ewes, and IgG concentrations in newborn lambs. Forty multiparous single-bearing ewes (68 ± 8.4 kg body weight, mean ± SD) were fed in four groups of CONTROL (fed a basal diet (BD)), CORN (BD + 300 g/day corn), LYCOP(BD + 100 mg/day lycopene), and LYCORN (BD + 300 g/day corn + 100 mg/day lycopene). The quantity and chemical composition of colostrum were determined. Blood samples were taken from ewes right after lambing and from lambs at 3 and 24 h of age. Results showed that corn supplementation increased (P less then 0.05) udder volume, the quantity of colostrum, as well as percentage of lactose, and protein in colostrum. Corn-supplemented ewes had higher circulating glucose, prolactin, and estradiol but lower urea and progesterone than control ewes. The ratio of progesterone to estradiol (P4/E2) in the blood of pregnant ewes decreased (P less then 0.05) after corn supplementation. Lycopene, irrespective of corn, increased the percentage of lymphocyte cells in pregnant ewes. Both corn and lycopene increased circulating IgG concentrations and subsequently increased the total IgG in colostrum at 6 h post-partum. Lycopene significantly elevated the circulating IgG at 24 h of age in lambs. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the diagnostic performance of commonly used methods for occlusal caries diagnostics, such as visual examination (VE), bitewing radiography (BW) and laser fluorescence (LF), in relation to their ability to detect (dentin) caries under clinical and laboratory conditions.
A systematic search of the literature was performed to identify studies meeting the inclusion criteria using the PIRDS concept (N = 1090). A risk of bias (RoB) assessment tool was used for quality evaluation. Reports with low/moderate RoB, well-matching thresholds for index and reference tests and appropriate reporting were included in the meta-analysis (N = 37; 29 in vivo/8 in vitro). The pooled sensitivity (SE), specificity (SP), diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) and areas under ROC curves (AUCs) were computed.
SP ranged from 0.50 (fibre-optic transillumination/caries detection level) to 0.97 (conventional BW/dentine detection level) in vitro. AUCs were typically higher for BW or LF than for VE. The highest AUC of 0.89 was observed for VE at the 1/3 dentin caries detection level; SE (0.70) was registered to be higher than SP (0.47) for VE at the caries detection level in vivo.
The number of included studies was found to be low. This underlines the need for high-quality caries diagnostic studies that further provide data in relation to multiple caries thresholds.

To develop and validate a nomogram for the prediction of symptomatic radiation pneumonitis (RP) in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) who received definitive concurrent chemoradiotherapy.
Clinical factors, dose-volume histogram parameters, and pulmonary function parameters were collected from 402 ESCC patients between 2010 and 2017, including 321 patients in the primary cohort and 81 in the validation cohort. The end-point was the occurrence of symptomatic RP (grade ≥ 2) within the first 12months after radiotherapy. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were applied to evaluate the predictive value of each factor for RP. A prediction model was generated in the primary cohort, which was internally validated to assess its performance.

had a higher predictive risk of RP, whereas the overall risk was substantially higher for three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT) than intensity-modulated radiotherapy.

The quantity and chemical composition of colostrum were determined. Blood samples were taken from ewes right after lambing and from lambs at 3 and 24 h of age. Results showed that corn supplementation increased (P less then 0.05) udder volume, the quantity of colostrum, as well as percentage of lactose, and protein in colostrum. Corn-supplemented ewes had higher circulating glucose, prolactin, and estradiol but lower urea and progesterone than control ewes. The ratio of progesterone to estradiol (P4/E2) in the blood of pregnant ewes decreased (P less then 0.05) after corn supplementation. Lycopene, irrespective of corn, increased the percentage of lymphocyte cells in pregnant ewes. Both corn and lycopene increased circulating IgG concentrations and subsequently increased the total IgG in colostrum at 6 h post-partum. Lycopene significantly elevated the circulating IgG at 24 h of age in lambs. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the diagnostic performance of commonly used methods for occlusal caries diagnostics, such as visual examination (VE), bitewing radiography (BW) and laser fluorescence (LF), in relation to their ability to detect (dentin) caries under clinical and laboratory conditions. Reports with low/moderate RoB, well-matching thresholds for index and reference tests and appropriate reporting were included in the meta-analysis (N = 37; 29 in vivo/8 in vitro). The pooled sensitivity (SE), specificity (SP), diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) and areas under ROC curves (AUCs) were computed. SP ranged from 0.50 (fibre-optic transillumination/caries detection level) to 0.97 (conventional BW/dentine detection level) in vitro. AUCs were typically higher for BW or LF than for VE. The highest AUC of 0.89 was observed for VE at the 1/3 dentin caries detection level; SE (0.70) was registered to be higher than SP (0.47) for VE at the caries detection level in vivo.
