  • Teachers in developing countries are facing increasing social and political pressure to use Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to improve the access to and the quality of education available to young people. This is a core part of several government-led initiatives to attain the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4-quality education. While there is no shortage of ICT, the adoption for actual use in the classroom is often a hurdle for teachers, due to various concerns they harbour. This research study used the Concerns-Based Adoption Model (CBAM) to assess the stages of concern of 340 Nigerian teachers about adopting and integrating ICT in the classroom. The findings indicated that teachers' concerns were most intense in the awareness, management and information stages respectively, and lowest at the collaborative and consequence levels. Further examination of the results also shows a significant relationship between the stages of concern and teachers' personal attributes like teaching experience, age and the class level they teach.     We searched PubMed, Embase, Web of science and Cochrane Library for epidemiological studies of confirmed COVID-19, which include information about clinical characteristics and severity of patients' disease. We analyzed the potential associations between clinical characteristics and severe cases.

    We identified a total of 41 eligible studies including 21060 patients with COVID-19. Severe cases were potentially associated with advanced age (Standard Mean Difference (SMD) = 1.73, 95% CI 1.34-2.12), male gender (Odds Ratio (OR) = 1.51, 95% CI1.33-1.71), obesity (OR = 1.89, 95% CI 1.44-2.46), history of smoking (OR = 1.40, 95% CI1.06-1.85), hypertension (OR = 2.42, 95% CI 2.03-2.88), diabetes (OR = 2.40, 95% CI 1.98-2.91), coronary heart disease (OR 2.87, 95% CI 2.22-3.71), chronic kidney disease (CKD) (OR = 2.97, 95% CI 1.63-5.41), cerebrovascular disease (OR = 2.47, 95% CI 1.54-3.97), chronic obstructive pulmonary dire COVID-19 symptoms. ARDS, shock and AKI were thought to be the main hinderances to recovery.
    Cognitive difficulties and neuropsychological alterations in Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy (DMD, BMD) boys are not yet sufficiently explored, although this topic could have a relevant impact, finding novel biomarkers of disease both at genetics and neuroimaging point of view. The current study aims to 1) analyze the neuropsychological profile of a group of DMD and BMD boys without cognitive impairment with an assessment of their executive functions; 2) explore the structural connectivity in DMD, BMD, and age-matched controls focusing on cortico-subcortical tracts that connect frontal cortex, basal ganglia, and cerebellum via the thalamus; 3) explore possible correlations between altered structural connectivity and clinical neuropsychological measures.

    This pilot study included 15 boys (5 DMD subjects, 5 BMD subjects, and 5 age-matched typically developing, TD). They were assessed using a neuropsychological assessment protocol including cognitive and executive functioning assessment and performed , despite the limitation of sample size, the findings support the hypothesis of the involvement of a cerebellar-thalamo-cortical loop for the neuropsychological profile of DMD, as the CTT and the CPCT are involved in the network and the related brain structures are known to be implied in executive functions. Our results suggest that altered WM connectivity and reduced fibre organization in cerebellar tracts, probably due to the lack of dystrophin in the brain, may render less efficient some neuropsychological functions in children affected by dystrophinopathies. The wider multicentric study could help to better establish the role of cerebellar connectivity in neuropsychological profile for dystrophinopathies, identifying possible novel diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers.
    The purpose of this study was to explore the situations and factors influencing casual sexual behavior among male college students, in order to provide scientific evidences and measures of the prevention and control for HIV/AIDS.

    Using the stratified cluster sampling method, male college students who self-reported sexual behavior were selected as survey subjects in 13 colleges and universities in 11 cities of Zhejiang Province from October to November 2018. We used a custom online questionnaire to collect information on the demographic characteristics, sexual attitudes, sexual behaviors, and HIV interventions of the respondents. The χ2 test was performed on the composition ratios between different groups. With the occurrence of casual sexual behavior as the dependent variable, logistic regression was used to analyze the factors influencing casual male sexual behavior.

    A total of 2734 male college students were surveyed, aged 20.20±1.41 years, of which 595 had casual sex, accounting for 21.7%. The rate of HIV prevention awareness among the participants was 85.

  • Mastitis tends to increase with parity in camels. E. coli isolates were highly resistant to spectinomycin, vancomycin, and doxycycline, whereas most S. aureus isolates were multidrug-resistant. Most of the rural and periurban communities in this area consume raw milk, which indicates a high risk of infection with multidrug-resistant bacteria. We recommend a community-focused training program to improve community awareness of the need to boil milk and the risk of raw milk consumption.Two of the most important diseases of cattle are caused by mycoplasmas. Mycoplasma bovis is a world-wide bovine pathogen that can cause pneumonia, mastitis and arthritis. It has now spread to most, if not all, cattle-rearing countries. Due to its increasing resistance to antimicrobial therapy, vaccination is the principal focus of the control of infection, but effective vaccines are currently lacking. Despite being eradicated from most parts of the world, Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides, the cause of contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP), continues to plague sub-Saharan Africa, affecting at least 25 countries. Numerous new experimental vaccines have been developed over the last 20 years to improve on protection afforded by the T1/44, a live vaccine in continuous use in Africa for over 60 years, but none so far have succeeded; indeed, many have exacerbated the disease. Tools for diagnosis and control are adequate for eradication but what is necessary are resources to improve vaccine coverage to levels last seen in the 1970s, when CBPP was restricted to a few countries in Africa. This paper summarizes the results of the main studies in the field of experimental mycoplasma vaccines, reviews data on commercially available bacterin vaccines and addresses issues relating to the search for new candidates for effective vaccines to reduce economic losses in the cattle industry caused by these two mycoplasmas.In Turkey, heat loss from existing and new buildings constitutes a large part of energy waste, so usage of suitable construction material is quite important. The building selected in this study was analyzed by applying different building materials considering the annual energy consumption allowed, and according to the different heat zones and different thicknesses of insulation material in relation to demand. Moreover, this review highlights the need for further research on the composition and properties of stonefish venom, which may reveal novel molecules for drug discovery, development or other novel physiological uses.Soil hosts myriads of living organisms with the extensive potential to produce bioactive compounds. Bacteria are the major soil inhabitants that represent a rich reservoir for antibiotic production along with their role in recycling nutrients and maintenance of the soil ecosystem. Here, from 55 tested soil samples, we isolated and identified a novel antibiotic-producing bacterial strain with a phylogenetically closest match to Bacillus subtilis sp. based on BLASTN search of GenBank for the 16S rRNA gene sequence. We characterized this novel strain through microscopic, biochemical, and molecular techniques, combined with testing its potential antimicrobial activity. Chemical studies revealed that the antibiotic produced by this strain is a glycopeptide. It exhibited profound activity against both methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Candida albicans. The antibiotic is optimally produced at 37 °C after 28 h of growth. The biocompatibility of the extracted antibiotic was tested over a wide range of factors including temperature, pH, surfactants, and metal salts. To confirm its therapeutic potential, a sterile solution of the antibiotic was tested in vivo against bacteria-induced keratitis in rats where significant healing activity was recorded. Hence, this soil Bacillus strain may lead to the development of novel antibiotics for the treatment of human pathogens.The pharmacological activities in bioactive plant extracts play an increasing role in sustainable resources for valorization and biomedical applications. Bioactive phytochemicals, including natural compounds, secondary metabolites and their derivatives, have attracted significant attention for use in both medicinal products and cosmetic products. Our review highlights the pharmacological mode-of-action and current biomedical applications of key bioactive compounds applied as anti-inflammatory, bactericidal with antibiotics effects, and pain relief purposes in controlled clinical studies or preclinical studies. In this systematic review, the availability of bioactive compounds from several salt-tolerant plant species, mainly focusing on the three promising species Aster tripolium, Crithmum maritimum and Salicornia europaea, are summarized and discussed. All three of them have been widely used in natural folk medicines and are now in the focus for future nutraceutical and pharmacological applications.Many different regulatory mechanisms of renal fibrosis are known to date, and those related to transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1)-induced signaling have been studied in greater depth. However, in recent years, other signaling pathways have been identified, which contribute to the regulation of these pathological processes. Several studies by our team and others have revealed the involvement of small Ras GTPases in the regulation of the cellular processes that occur in renal fibrosis, such as the activation and proliferation of myofibroblasts or the accumulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins. Intracellular signaling mediated by TGF-β1 and Ras GTPases are closely related, and this interaction also occurs during the development of renal fibrosis. In this review, we update the available in vitro and in vivo knowledge on the role of Ras and its main effectors, such as Erk and Akt, in the cellular mechanisms that occur during the regulation of kidney fibrosis (ECM synthesis, accumulation and activation of myofibroblasts, apoptosis and survival of tubular epithelial cells), as well as the therapeutic strategies for targeting the Ras pathway to intervene on the development of renal fibrosis.

    Due to the SARS - COV 2 pandemic related restrictions the 2020 Belgian Surgical Week (BSW) was organized as a virtual congress, being the first surgical, virtual congress in Belgium. Since this was a new experience and probably not the last, we aim to share our experience to assist other professionals in organizing their virtual event.

    The "BSW-light" was organized by the RBSS in collaboration with a Professional Congress Organizer (PCO), which is described in detail. Analytical data of the event were provided by the PCO and a UEMS "live educational events participant evaluation form" based survey was sent out to all registered participant, using google forms, to evaluate the event.

    During 2 days, 78 prerecorded presentations were broadcasted in 2 virtual conference rooms, each followed by a live Q & A session. After the training, in comparison to a waiting-list control group (N = 102), the MOM group (N = 110) showed reduced dissociative tendencies (p less then .05), increased dispositional mindfulness (p less then .001) and increased interoceptive awareness (in the aspects of not-worrying, self-regulation and body listening; p less then .001). Moreover, correlational evidence showed that the more MOM participants increased in mindfulness skills after the training the more they reported increased interoceptive awareness and decreased dissociative functioning (p less then .05). The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of direct versus indirect revascularization (DR/IR) in endovascular versus bypass surgery on ulcer healing, limb salvage and mortality.

    A retrospective analysis of both endovascular and bypass distal (below the knee) lower limb revascularizations for chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) between 1993 and 2014 was performed.

    The study population consisted of 126 endovascular and 198 bypass procedures. DR and IR were achieved in 57.4% and 42.6% limbs respectively. DR was not superior to IR regarding all three major endpoints when endovascular and bypass procedures were analyzed separately. Since this was a new experience and probably not the last, we aim to share our experience to assist other professionals in organizing their virtual event. The "BSW-light" was organized by the RBSS in collaboration with a Professional Congress Organizer (PCO), which is described in detail. Analytical data of the event were provided by the PCO and a UEMS "live educational events participant evaluation form" based survey was sent out to all registered participant, using google forms, to evaluate the event. During 2 days, 78 prerecorded presentations were broadcasted in 2 virtual conference rooms, each followed by a live Q & A session.   • Climate change impacts buildings in multiple ways, including extreme weather events and thermal stresses. Rural India comprising 65% of the population is characterised by vernacular dwellings evolved over time to passively regulate and maintain comfortable indoors. Increasing modernization in rural habitations (transitions) evident from the ingress of modern materials and electro-mechanical appliances undermines the ability of building envelopes to passively regulate and maintain comfortable indoors. While such trends are deemed good for the economy, their underlying implications in terms of climate change have not been adequately examined. The current study evaluates the climate-resilience of vernacular dwellings and those undergoing transitions in response to three climate-change scenarios, viz, A1B (rapid economic growth fuelled by balanced use of energy sources), A2 (regionally sensitive economic development) and B1 (structured economic growth and adoption of clean and resource efficient technologies). The study examines dwellings characteristic to three rural settlements representing three major climate zones in India and involves both real-time monitoring and simulation-based investigation. The study is novel in investigating the impact of climate change on indoor thermal comfort in rural dwellings, adopting vernacular and modern materials. The study revealed higher resilience of vernacular dwellings in response to climate change.This study examines if overweight/obesity are related to higher impulsivity, food addiction and depressive symptoms, and if these variables could be modified after 1 year of a multimodal intervention (diet, physical activity, psychosocial support). 342 adults (55-75 years) with overweight/obesity and metabolic syndrome (MetS) from the PREDIMED-Plus Cognition study were randomized to the intervention or to the control group (lifestyle recommendations). Cognitive and psychopathological assessments were performed at baseline and after 1-year follow-up. At baseline, higher impulsivity was linked to higher food addiction and depressive symptoms, but not to body mass index (BMI). Food addiction not only predicted higher BMI and depressive symptoms, but also achieved a mediational role between impulsivity and BMI/depressive symptoms. After 1 year, patients in both groups reported significant decreases in BMI, food addiction and impulsivity. BMI reduction and impulsivity improvements were higher in the intervention group. Higher BMI decrease was achieved in individuals with lower impulsivity. Higher scores in food addiction were also related to greater post-treatment impulsivity. To conclude, overweight/obesity are related to higher impulsivity, food addiction and depressive symptoms in mid/old age individuals with MetS. Field surveys in the epicentral area allowed us to observe and map primary coseismic effects, including geometry and kinematics of surface faulting, as well as secondary effects, such as liquefaction, sinkholes and landslides. The resulting dataset consists of homogeneous georeferenced records identifying 222 observation points, each of which contains a minimum of 5 to a maximum of 14 numeric and string fields of relevant information. The earthquake caused surface faulting defining a typical 'conjugate' fault pattern characterized by Y and X shears, tension cracks (T fractures), and compression structures (P shears) within a ca. 10 km wide (across strike), NW-SE striking right-lateral strike-slip shear zone (i.e., the Petrinja Fault Zone, PFZ). We believe that the results of the field survey provide fundamental information to improve the interpretation of seismological, GPS and InSAR data of this earthquake. Moreover, the data related to the surface faulting may impact future studies focused on earthquake processes in active strike-slip settings, integrating the estimates of slip amount and distribution in assessing the hazard associated with capable transcurrent faults.The phytohormone abscisic acid (ABA) is crucial for plant responses to environmental challenges. The SNF1-regulated protein kinase 2s (SnRK2s) are key components in ABA-receptor coupled core signaling, and are rapidly phosphorylated and activated by ABA. Recent studies have suggested that Raf-like protein kinases (RAFs) participate in ABA-triggered SnRK2 activation. In vitro kinase assays also suggest the existence of autophosphorylation of SnRK2s. Thus, how SnRK2 kinases are quickly activated during ABA signaling still needs to be clarified. Here, we show that both B2 and B3 RAFs directly phosphorylate SnRK2.6 in the kinase activation loop. This transphosphorylation by RAFs is essential for SnRK2 activation. The activated SnRK2s then intermolecularly trans-phosphorylate other SnRK2s that are not yet activated to amplify the response. High-order Arabidopsis mutants lacking multiple B2 and B3 RAFs show ABA hyposensitivity. Our findings reveal a unique initiation and amplification mechanism of SnRK2 activation in ABA signaling in higher plants.

    To predict early intracerebral haemorrhage expansion (HE) by comprehensive evaluation of commonly used noncontrast computed tomography (NCCT) features.

    Two hundred eighty-eight patients who had a spontaneous intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) were included. All of the patients had undergone baseline NCCT within 6 h after ICH symptom onset. Ten NCCT features were extracted. Univariate analysis and multivariable logistic regression analysis were used to select the features. Using the finally selected features, a logistic regression model was built with a training cohort (n = 202) and subsequently validated in an independent test cohort (n = 86). Additionally, stratification analysis was performed in cases with and without anticoagulant therapy.

    HE was found in 78 patients (27.1%). The blend sign and black hole sign were finally selected. The logistic regression model built with the two features exhibited accuracies of 76.7% and 75.6%, specificities of 98.6% and 98.4%, and positive predictive values (PPVs) ofexpansion is important for therapeutic intervention. • Many radiological features have been reported to correlate with intracerebral haemorrhage expansion. • By integrating only the blend sign and black hole sign, the logistic regression model showed good performance for predicting early intracerebral haemorrhage expansion.

    3-T MRI scans including pre- and post-contrast T1-w as well as T2-w images of 265 consecutive patients (mean age40 ± 13years, 169 women) with (suspected) MS were analyzed retrospectively. Images were assessed in two separate reading sessions, first excluding and second including pre-contrast T1-w images. Two independent neuroradiologists rated the number of contrast-enhancing (ce) lesions as well as diagnostic confidence (1 = unlikely to 5 = very high), overall image quality, and artifacts. Results were compared using Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed-rank tests and weighted Cohen's kappa (κ).

    Fifty-six ce lesions were found in 43 patients. There were no significant differences in diagnostic confidence between both readinge.

    Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a well-defined non-motor manifestation and a harbinger of dementia in Parkinson's disease. This study is to investigate brain connectivity markers of MCI using diffusion tensor imaging and resting-state functional MRI, and help MCI diagnosis in PD patients.

    We evaluated 131 advanced PD patients (disease duration > 5 years; 59 patients with MCI) and 48 healthy control subjects who underwent a diffusion-weighted and resting-state functional MRI scanning. The patients were randomly assigned to training (n = 100) and testing (n = 31) groups. According to the Brainnetome Atlas, ROI-based structural and functional connectivity analysis was employed to extract connectivity features. To identify features with significant discriminative power for patient classification, all features were put into an all-relevant feature selection procedure within cross-validation loops.

Results Seventeen patients received FCN-437c 50 mg (n = 3), 100 mg (n = 3), 200 mg (n = 3), 300 mg (n = 6), and 450 mg (n = 2). Two patients who received the 450-mg dose experienced dose-limiting toxicities (DLTs; grade 4 thrombocytopenia and neutropenia); no DLT was observed at any other dose level. Frequently reported treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) of any grade were hematological leukopenia (94.1%), neutropenia (88.2%), anemia (64.7%), and thrombocytopenia (47.1%). Grade 3-4 TEAEs included neutropenia (64.7%) and leukopenia (47.1%). Exposure of FCN-437c increased almost proportionally to doses ranging from 50 to 200 mg. At doses from 200 to 450 mg, there appeared to be a trend of saturation. The MTD was determined to be 300 mg. Of 15 patients with measurable disease, nine (60.0%) patients experienced stable disease; no complete or partial responses were observed. Conclusions These results established an acceptable safety profile for FCN-437c in patients with advanced **, and there were no unexpected signals relative to other CDK4/6 inhibitors. To predict early intracerebral haemorrhage expansion (HE) by comprehensive evaluation of commonly used noncontrast computed tomography (NCCT) features. Two hundred eighty-eight patients who had a spontaneous intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) were included. All of the patients had undergone baseline NCCT within 6 h after ICH symptom onset. Ten NCCT features were extracted. Univariate analysis and multivariable logistic regression analysis were used to select the features. Using the finally selected features, a logistic regression model was built with a training cohort (n = 202) and subsequently validated in an independent test cohort (n = 86). Additionally, stratification analysis was performed in cases with and without anticoagulant therapy. HE was found in 78 patients (27.1%). The blend sign and black hole sign were finally selected. The logistic regression model built with the two features exhibited accuracies of 76.7% and 75.6%, specificities of 98.6% and 98.4%, and positive predictive values (PPVs) ofexpansion is important for therapeutic intervention. • Many radiological features have been reported to correlate with intracerebral haemorrhage expansion. • By integrating only the blend sign and black hole sign, the logistic regression model showed good performance for predicting early intracerebral haemorrhage expansion. Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a well-defined non-motor manifestation and a harbinger of dementia in Parkinson's disease. This study is to investigate brain connectivity markers of MCI using diffusion tensor imaging and resting-state functional MRI, and help MCI diagnosis in PD patients. We evaluated 131 advanced PD patients (disease duration > 5 years; 59 patients with MCI) and 48 healthy control subjects who underwent a diffusion-weighted and resting-state functional MRI scanning. The patients were randomly assigned to training (n = 100) and testing (n = 31) groups. According to the Brainnetome Atlas, ROI-based structural and functional connectivity analysis was employed to extract connectivity features. To identify features with significant discriminative power for patient classification, all features were put into an all-relevant feature selection procedure within cross-validation loops. Two patients who received the 450-mg dose experienced dose-limiting toxicities (DLTs; grade 4 thrombocytopenia and neutropenia); no DLT was observed at any other dose level. Frequently reported treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) of any grade were hematological leukopenia (94.1%), neutropenia (88.2%), anemia (64.7%), and thrombocytopenia (47.1%). Grade 3-4 TEAEs included neutropenia (64.7%) and leukopenia (47.1%). Exposure of FCN-437c increased almost proportionally to doses ranging from 50 to 200 mg. At doses from 200 to 450 mg, there appeared to be a trend of saturation. The MTD was determined to be 300 mg. Of 15 patients with measurable disease, nine (60.0%) patients experienced stable disease; no complete or partial responses were observed. Conclusions These results established an acceptable safety profile for FCN-437c in patients with advanced BC, and there were no unexpected signals relative to other CDK4/6 inhibitors.   • The objective of this study was to compare the biomechanical behavior of four fixation methods for posterior malleolar fracture (PMF) by finite element analysis (FEM).

It is envisioned that tissue engineering of a bioartificial pancreas will revolutionize regenerative medicine and the treatment of diabetes. In this review, we discuss the anatomy and physiology of the pancreas, and identify the clinical considerations for engineering a bioartificial pancreas. Subsequently, we dissect the bioengineering problem based on the design of the device, the biomaterial used, and the cells involved. Last but not least, we highlight current tissue engineering challenges and explore potential directions for future work.

    Cross-sectional survey study METHODS Online surveys were electronically distributed to ABEA members assessing awareness of PPI side effects and current practice in reflux management.

    374 ABEA members were contacted, of whom, 43 (11.5%) completed the survey. The majority of respondents (94.1%) selected laryngology as their principal focus.     The majority of surveyed ABEA members were concerned about reports of PPI adverse effects and had modified their prescription patterns as a result. Avoidance of PPI recommendation was common, along with the preference for H2 blockers in the management of GERD and LPR. PPI side effects of greatest concern to broncho-esophagologists treating adult patients were osteoporosis, renal dysfunction and dementia.

This is concerning as these reported symptoms of dysphonia, aphonia, and vocal fatigue can significantly compromise quality of life. The purpose of this review is to explore key factors that may contribute to voice problems in the fitness instructor population. Voicing with concurrent phonation and exercise may be influenced by (1) the increased cardiovascular requirement during exercise, (2) the increased cognitive load associated with dual tasking, (3) the altered hydration state associated with prolonged exercise, and (4) the phonatory dose associated with continued voicing with loud background music. This manuscript will explore the literature on these key factors (ie, phonatory dose, dehydration, metabolic bioenergetics, cognitive load, and psychosocial stress) as they pertain to fitness instructors.

    The aim of the study was to evaluate barriers to nursing mobility, using a validated survey, during an ongoing quality improvement (QI) project (2019) in a medical ICU and determine changes from the pre-QI (2017) baseline.

    Nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and clinical technicians completed the 26-item Patient Mobilization Attitudes and Beliefs Survey for the ICU (PMABS-ICU). An overall score and three subscale scores (knowledge, attitudes, behaviour), each ranging from 0 to 100, were calculated; higher scores indicated greater barriers.

    Seventy-five (93% response rate) nurses, eight (100%) nurse practitioners and physician assistants, and 11 (100%) clinical technicians completed the PMABS-ICU. For all respondents (N=94), the mean (standard deviation) overall PMABS-ICU score was 32 (8) and the knowledge, attitudes and behaviouroject suggests a positive culture change supporting early, goal-directed mobility implemented by nurses.

Constructing bio-inspired soft robotic systems with effective actuation requires the efficient supply of mechanical energy generated from external inputs, such as temperature, light, and electricity. By combining bio-inspired designs with stimuli-responsive materials, various intelligent soft robotic systems that demonstrate promising and exciting results have been developed. As one of the building materials for soft robotics, hydrogels are gaining increasing attention owing to their advantageous properties, such as ultra-tunable modulus, high compliance, varying stimuli-responsiveness, good biocompatibility, and high transparency. In this review article, we summarize the recent progress on plant-inspired soft robotics assembled by stimuli-responsive hydrogels with a particular focus on their actuation mechanisms, fabrication, and application. Meanwhile, some critical challenges and problems associated with current hydrogel-based soft robotics are briefly introduced, and possible solutions are proposed. We expect that this review would provide elementary tutorial guidelines to audiences who are interested in the study on nature-inspired soft robotics, especially hydrogel-based intelligent soft robotic systems.The chemotactic response regulator CheY, when phosphorylated by the phosphoryl group from phosphorylated CheA, can bind to the motor switch complex to control the flagellar motor rotation. Three cheY-deletion mutants were constructed to test the effects of two CheYs on the chemotaxis of A.fabrum. Phenotypes of three cheY-deletion mutants show that deletion of each cheY significantly affects the chemotactic response, but cheY2-deletion possesses more prominent effects on the chemotactic migration and swimming pattern of A. fabrum than does cheY1-deletion. Mulberry miR156 has been confirmed to be a crucial factor in the vegetative phase transition in Arabidopsis thaliana. The over-expression of miR156 in transgenic Populus × canadensis dramatically prolongs the juvenile phase. Here, we find that the expression of mno-miR156 decreases with age in all tissues in mulberry, which led us to study the hierarchical action of miR156 in mulberry. Utilizing degradome sequencing and dual-luciferase reporter assays, nine MnSPLs were shown to be directly regulated by miR156. The results of yeast one-hybrid and dual-luciferase reporter assays also revealed that six MnSPLs could recognize the promoter sequences of mno-miR172 and activate its expression. Our results demonstrate that mno-miR156 performs its role by repressing MnSPL/mno-miR172 pathway expression in mulberry. This work uncovered a miR156/SPLs/miR172 regulation pathway in the development of mulberry and fills a gap in our knowledge about the molecular mechanism of vegetative phase transition in perennial woody plants.

Constructing bio-inspired soft robotic systems with effective actuation requires the efficient supply of mechanical energy generated from external inputs, such as temperature, light, and electricity. By combining bio-inspired designs with stimuli-responsive materials, various intelligent soft robotic systems that demonstrate promising and exciting results have been developed. As one of the building materials for soft robotics, hydrogels are gaining increasing attention owing to their advantageous properties, such as ultra-tunable modulus, high compliance, varying stimuli-responsiveness, good biocompatibility, and high transparency. In this review article, we summarize the recent progress on plant-inspired soft robotics assembled by stimuli-responsive hydrogels with a particular focus on their actuation mechanisms, fabrication, and application. Meanwhile, some critical challenges and problems associated with current hydrogel-based soft robotics are briefly introduced, and possible solutions are proposed. We expect that this review would provide elementary tutorial guidelines to audiences who are interested in the study on nature-inspired soft robotics, especially hydrogel-based intelligent soft robotic systems.The chemotactic response regulator CheY, when phosphorylated by the phosphoryl group from phosphorylated CheA, can bind to the motor switch complex to control the flagellar motor rotation. Mulberry miR156 has been confirmed to be a crucial factor in the vegetative phase transition in Arabidopsis thaliana. The over-expression of miR156 in transgenic Populus × canadensis dramatically prolongs the juvenile phase. Here, we find that the expression of mno-miR156 decreases with age in all tissues in mulberry, which led us to study the hierarchical action of miR156 in mulberry. Utilizing degradome sequencing and dual-luciferase reporter assays, nine MnSPLs were shown to be directly regulated by miR156. The results of yeast one-hybrid and dual-luciferase reporter assays also revealed that six MnSPLs could recognize the promoter sequences of mno-miR172 and activate its expression. Our results demonstrate that mno-miR156 performs its role by repressing MnSPL/mno-miR172 pathway expression in mulberry. We compared cytokines in COVID-19 versus influenza in order to define differentiating features of the inflammatory response to these pathogens and their association with severe disease. Because elevated body mass index (BMI) is a known risk factor for severe COVID-19, we examined the relationship of BMI to cytokines associated with severe disease.

    Thirty-seven cytokines and chemokines were measured in plasma from 135 patients with COVID-19, 57 patients with influenza, and 30 healthy controls. Controlling for BMI, age, and sex, differences in cytokines between groups were determined by linear regression and random forest prediction was utilized to determine the cytokines most important in distinguishing severe COVID-19 and influenza. Mediation analysis was utilized to identify cytokines that mediate the effect of BMI and age on disease severity.

    IL-18, IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α were significantly increased in COVID-19 versus influenza patients while GM-CSF, IFN-γ, IFN-λ1, IL-10, IL-15, and MCP-2 were significantly elevated in the influenza group.
