    We describe the inter-rater agreement between Emergency Department (ED) clinicians and reporting radiologists in the interpretation of chest X-rays (CXRs) in patients presenting to ED with suspected COVID-19.

    We undertook a retrospective cohort study of patients with suspected COVID-19. We compared ED clinicians' and radiologists' interpretation of the CXRs according to British Society of Thoracic Imaging (BSTI) guidelines, using the area under the receiver operator curve (ROC area).

    CXRs of 152 cases with suspected COVID-19 infection were included. Sensitivity and specificity for 'classic' COVID-19 CXR findings reported by ED clinician was 84 and 83%, respectively, with a ROC area of 0.84 (95%CI 0.77 to 0.90). Accuracy improved with ED clinicians' experience, with ROC areas of 0.73 (95%CI 0.45 to 1.00), 0.81 (95%CI 0.73 to 0.89), 1.00 (95%CI 1.00 to 1.00) and 0.90 (95%CI 0.70 to 1.00) for foundation year doctors, senior house officers, higher speciality trainees and ED consultants, respectively (

CT, positron emission tomography/CT, MRI, and ultrasound are routinely used imaging techniques for staging in patients with lung cancer.     To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of hypofractionated orbital radiotherapy applied in the treatment of thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO) patients.

    Between 2014 and 2018, we retrospectively reviewed the cases of 28 patients with TAO. All patients underwent radiotherapy on both retroocular tissues and received an oral steroid. Patients were divided into two treatment groups 14 patients received conventional fractionated radiotherapy (20 Gy in 10 fractions), and the second group of 14 patients received hypofractionated radiotherapy (20 Gy in five fractions). The clinical activity score (CAS), NOSPECS (No physical signs or symptoms, Only signs, Soft tissue involvement, Proptosis, Extraocular muscle signs, Corneal involvement, and Sight loss) classification, Hess screen test and binocular single vision (BSV) were evaluated to determine the response to treatment before and at 1 month after radiotherapy.

  • Although the effect of isotretinoin use on hormonal changes in acne pathogenesis is not fully known, there are limited studies on its effects on the development of hirsutism. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the effect of isotretinoin use on hirsutism and hormonal parameters in patients with acne vulgaris.

    In this study, 30 female acne patients and 30 healthy females were evaluated prospectively. Menstrual irregularity, LH, FSH, prolactin, progesterone, 17-OH progesterone, oestradiol, total testosterone, DHEA-S, insulin, glucose, TSH levels, Ferriman-Gallwey (FG) score and ultrasonography (USG) findings of control group and patient group were recorded.

    Pre-treatment progesterone (P=.007) and oestradiol (P=.001) levels of the patients were statistically lower than the control group. In the patient group, menstrual irregularity (P<001) and FG hirsutism score at the third month of treatment were significantly higher than before treatment. In 10% of the patients, there were abnormal findings on pelvic USG in the third month of treatment.

    Pain associated with immunisations can result in distress and/or anxiety for children and parents. We assessed the feasibility and acceptability of two novel devices; Coolsense (cold) and Buzzy (vibration ± cooling pads) versus standard care to minimise pain during immunisations. We also evaluated compliance to the devices and parent's perception of the effectiveness of the devices/standard care for minimising pain during immunisation.

    Forty children aged 3.5 to 6 years attending an Immunisation Centre at The Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, were randomised (1111) into four groups (i) Coolsense plus standard care; (ii) Buzzy with cold plus standard care; (iii) Buzzy without cold plus standard care; and (iv) Standard care alone (distraction with bubbles).

    Recruitment was completed in 12 days. Seventy percent were compliant with Buzzy (±cold), 82% with Coolsense, and 60% with standard care. Buzzy (with cold) was identified as effective by 70% of parents, Coolsense by 64%, Buzzy without cold by 50% and standard care by 60%.

In this review we summarize what is known about hearing in reptiles in order to contextualize the vocal signals they generate and the sound-producing mechanisms responsible for them. The diversity of form of the sound producing apparatus and the increasing evidence that reptiles are more dependent upon vocalization as a communication medium than previously thought indicates that they have a significant role to play in the understanding of the evolution of vocalization in amniotes.
    We compared the efficacy and safety of insulin degludec/insulin aspart co-formulation (IDegAsp) twice-daily to a free combination of basal insulin degludec and GLP-1 receptor agonist liraglutide (IDeg+Lira) once-daily for patients with inadequately controlled type 2 diabetes on insulin therapy and oral antidiabetic drugs.

    Eligible patients were randomly allocated at a 11 ratio to receive either the once-daily dual injection of IDeg+Lira (n=24) or twice-daily single injection of IDegAsp (n=28). The primary endpoints were as follows HbA1c changes over 52weeks of treatment and the percentage of participants achieving HbA1c<7.0% at week 52.

    After 52weeks, HbA1c decreased by 0.3% in the IDegAsp group and by 0.7% in the IDeg+Lira group. The HbA1c reduction was greater in the IDeg+Lira group than in the IDegAsp group. 19% of patients on IDegAsp versus 40% on IDeg+Lira achieved HbA1c<7.0%. Pre-breakfast and pre-dinner blood glucose at 52weeks were significantly lower in the IDeg+Lira group than in the IDegAsp group. The reduction in body mass index (BMI) was greater in the IDeg+Lira group than in the IDegAsp group throughout the study period. The confirmed hypoglycaemia rates were 1.32 and 0.69 per patient/year of exposure to IDegAsp and IDeg+Lira, respectively.

  • Phospholipase A2 (PLA2) exerts a wide range of biological effects and attracts a lot of attention of researchers. Two sites are involved in manifestation of PLA2 enzymatic activity catalytic site responsible for substrate binding and fatty acid cleavage from the sn-2 position of a glycerophospholipid, and interface binding site (IBS) responsible for the protein binding to lipid membrane. IBS is formed by positively charged and hydrophobic amino acids on the outer surface of the protein molecule. Understanding the mechanism of PLA2 interaction with the lipid membrane is the most challenging step in biochemistry of this enzyme. We used a combination of experimental and computer simulation techniques to clarify molecular details of bee venom PLA2 interaction with lipid bilayers formed by palmitoyloleoylphosphatidylcholine or dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine. We found that after initial enzyme contact with the membrane, a network of hydrogen bonds was formed. This led to deformation of the interacting leaflet and dint formation. The bilayer response to the deformation depended on its phase state. In a gel-phase bilayer, diffusion of lipids is restricted therefore chain melting occurred in both leaflets of the bilayer. In the case of a fluid-phase bilayer, lateral diffusion is possible, and lipid polar head groups were excluded from the contact area. As a result, the bilayer became thinner and a large hydrophobic area was formed. We assume that relative ability of a bilayer to come through lipid redistribution process defines the rate of initial stages of the catalysis.
    Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a bacterium able to induce serious pulmonary infections in cystic fibrosis (CF) patients. This bacterium is very often antibiotic resistant, partly because of its membrane impermeability, which is linked to the membrane lipid composition. This work aims to study the membrane phospholipids of P. aeruginosa grown in CF sputum-like media.

    Three media were used Mueller Hilton broth (MHB), synthetic cystic fibrosis medium (SCFM) and 1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DOPC) complemented SCFM (SCFM-PC). Lipids were extracted and LC-MS/MS analyses were performed. Growth curves, atomic force microscopy images and minimal inhibitory concentration determination were performed in order to compare the growth and potentially link lipid modifications to antibiotic resistance.

    Semi-quantification showed phospholipid quantity variation depending on the growth medium. Phosphatidylcholines were detected in traces in SCFM. MS/MS experiments showed an increase of phospholipids derived from DOPC in SCFM-PC.     Phospholipase A2 (PLA2) exerts a wide range of biological effects and attracts a lot of attention of researchers. Two sites are involved in manifestation of PLA2 enzymatic activity catalytic site responsible for substrate binding and fatty acid cleavage from the sn-2 position of a glycerophospholipid, and interface binding site (IBS) responsible for the protein binding to lipid membrane. IBS is formed by positively charged and hydrophobic amino acids on the outer surface of the protein molecule. Understanding the mechanism of PLA2 interaction with the lipid membrane is the most challenging step in biochemistry of this enzyme. We used a combination of experimental and computer simulation techniques to clarify molecular details of bee venom PLA2 interaction with lipid bilayers formed by palmitoyloleoylphosphatidylcholine or dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine. We found that after initial enzyme contact with the membrane, a network of hydrogen bonds was formed. This led to deformation of the interacting leaflet and dint formation. The bilayer response to the deformation depended on its phase state. In a gel-phase bilayer, diffusion of lipids is restricted therefore chain melting occurred in both leaflets of the bilayer. In the case of a fluid-phase bilayer, lateral diffusion is possible, and lipid polar head groups were excluded from the contact area. As a result, the bilayer became thinner and a large hydrophobic area was formed. Lipids were extracted and LC-MS/MS analyses were performed. Growth curves, atomic force microscopy images and minimal inhibitory concentration determination were performed in order to compare the growth and potentially link lipid modifications to antibiotic resistance. Semi-quantification showed phospholipid quantity variation depending on the growth medium. Phosphatidylcholines were detected in traces in SCFM. We found that exosomes from TSLP-treated DCs notably promoted the proportions of Th17 cells and inhibited the proportions of Tregs in the CD4+ T cells. Moreover, exosomes from TSLP-treated DCs enhanced the expression of retinoid-related orphan receptor γt (RORγt) and interleukin 17 (IL-17), and repressed the expression of forkhead box protein P3 (Foxp3) and interleukin 10 (IL-10) in the CD4+ T cells. Furthermore, miR-21 was highly expressed in exosomes from TSLP-treated DCs. Exosomes from TSLP-treated miR-21-silenced DCs promoted Treg differentiation and suppressed Th17 differentiation. Tests were performed on leaves under different conditions of relative humidity (5-58%), NO2 mixing ratio representing suburban to urban areas (10-80 ppbv), spectral irradiance (0-20 W m-2) and temperature (288-313 K). Additional tests on plant wax extracts from Zea mays leaves showed that this component can contribute to the observed HONO formation. Temperature and NO2 mixing ratios were the two environmental parameters that showed substantially increased HONO emissions from Zea mays leaves.

  • Endogenous endophthalmitis (EE) is a rare but fulminant intraocular infection that needs prompt recognition and management. Bacteria are the commonest causative organisms and they may colonize the eye secondary to hematogenous spread from a focus anywhere in the body. EE in the peripartum period is an infrequent occurrence with no cases reported to occur secondary to a peurperal mastitis. We report a case of EE due to Staphylococcus aureous in a lactating female and describe its clinical presentation and management.Endophthalmitis is a dreaded postoperative complication of cataract surgery. Delftia acidovorans is usually nonpathogenic and an unusual ocular pathogen. Isolated reports of delftia-associated sepsis, otitis media, endocarditis, keratitis, etc. exist in literature. We report a rare and unique case of delftia-related endophthalmitis in a 67-year-old male diagnosed 2 weeks after uneventful cataract surgery. He was treated successfully with core vitrectomy and intravitreal antibiotics. Microbiological evaluation of vitreous sample identified the causative organism as Delftia acidovorans. Post-vitrectomy fundus evaluation at 1 week revealed the presence of retinal vascular sheathing and sclerosis along with few retinal hemorrhages. Final visual recovery was poor due to the presence of macular edema, epiretinal membrane, and temporal disc pallor.We report an Amycolatopsis sulphurea endophthalmitis after the surgical repair of penetrating eye trauma with a metallic intraocular foreign body. A 27-year-old male referred with occupational injury by a nail from his left eye. Endophthalmitis occurred 12 h after the removal of foreign body and repair of the globe. The culture of vitreus samples revealed gram-positive bacillus proliferation, confirming A. sulphurea. Endophthalmitis was eradicated successfully with intravitreal, topical, and systemic antibiotics.     Endogenous endophthalmitis (EE) is a rare but fulminant intraocular infection that needs prompt recognition and management. Bacteria are the commonest causative organisms and they may colonize the eye secondary to hematogenous spread from a focus anywhere in the body. EE in the peripartum period is an infrequent occurrence with no cases reported to occur secondary to a peurperal mastitis. We report a case of EE due to Staphylococcus aureous in a lactating female and describe its clinical presentation and management.Endophthalmitis is a dreaded postoperative complication of cataract surgery. Delftia acidovorans is usually nonpathogenic and an unusual ocular pathogen. Isolated reports of delftia-associated sepsis, otitis media, endocarditis, keratitis, etc. exist in literature. We report a rare and unique case of delftia-related endophthalmitis in a 67-year-old male diagnosed 2 weeks after uneventful cataract surgery. He was treated successfully with core vitrectomy and intravitreal antibiotics. Microbiological evaluation of vitreous sample identified the causative organism as Delftia acidovorans. Post-vitrectomy fundus evaluation at 1 week revealed the presence of retinal vascular sheathing and sclerosis along with few retinal hemorrhages.   • Thyroid cancer is a rare malignancy in the pediatric population that is highly associated with disease aggressiveness and advanced disease stages when compared to adult population. The biological and molecular features underlying pediatric and adult thyroid cancer pathogenesis could be responsible for differences in the clinical presentation and prognosis. Despite this, the clinical assessment and treatments used in pediatric thyroid cancer are the same as those implemented for adults and specific personalized target treatments are not used in clinical practice. In this review, we focus on papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), which represents 80-90% of all differentiated thyroid carcinomas. PTC has a high rate of gene fusions and mutations, which can influence the histologic subtypes in both children and adults. This review also highlights telomere-related genomic instability and changes in nuclear organization as novel biomarkers for thyroid cancers.Maintaining tight junction (TJ) integrity is important for epithelial cell barriers. Previously, the enhancement of TJ integrity, induced by citrus-derived flavonoids, naringin (NRG) and hesperidin (HSD), was demonstrated, but the effects of their aglycones naringenin (NAR) and hesperetin (HST), and the mechanisms, have not been systematically investigated. Here we compared three series of flavonoids related to NAR, HST, quercetin (QUE) and their glycosides with the Madin-Darby canine kidney (****) II cell monolayers. The effect of flavonoids on the protein expression level of claudin (CLD)-2 and its subcellular localization were investigated. NAR, NRG, and HSD increased the CLD-2 localization at the TJ compartment, and its protein expression level. In atherosclerosis and aortic stenosis, positron emission tomography combined with computed tomographic (PET-CT) imaging has demonstrated a correlation between inflammation and calcification. Since its appearance, MERS-CoV has been reported in 27 countries and most of these cases were in Saudi Arabia. So far, dromedaries are considered to be the intermediate host and the only known source of human infection. This study was designed to determine the seroprevalence and the infection rate of MERS-CoV in slaughtered food-camels in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. A total of 171 nasal swabs along with 161 serum samples were collected during the winter; from January to April 2019. Nasal swabs were examined by Rapid test and RT-PCR to detect MERS-CoV RNA, while serum samples were tested primarily using S1-based ELISA Kit to detect MERS-CoV (IgG) antibodies and subsequently by MERS pseudotyped viral particles (MERSpp) neutralization assay for confirmation. Genetic diversity of the positive isolates was determined based on the amplification and sequencing of the spike gene. Our results showed high prevalence (38.6%) of MERS-CoV infection in slaughtered camels and high seropositivity (70.8%) during the time of the study. These data indicate previous and ongoing MERS-CoV infection in camels. Phylogenic analysis revealed relatively low genetic variability among our isolated samples. When these isolates were aligned against published spike sequences of MERS-CoV, deposited in global databases, there was sequence similarity of 94%. High seroprevalence and high genetic stability of MERS-CoV in camels indicating that camels pose a public health threat. The widespread MERS-CoV infections in camels might lead to a risk of future zoonotic transmission into people with direct contact with these infected camels. This study confirms re-infections in camels, highlighting a challenge for vaccine development when it comes to protective immunity.Cyperus articulatus L. is popularly known as priprioca. This study aimed to determine the in vitro antiplasmodial and cytotoxicity activities of the ethanolic extract of C. articulatus as an in vitro antiplasmodial agent. From the solid residue of the plant rhizomes, 40 g samples were removed and subjected to hot extraction using a Soxhlet extractor. The in vitro antiplasmodial activity was determined using the W2 and 3D7 strains of P. falciparum. The phytochemical study identified the following main compounds corymbolone (14.25%), cyclocolorenone (9.75%), and cadalene (8.36%). The extract exhibited moderate IC50 (inhibitory concentration) against the two strains of P. falciparum 1.21 ± 0.01 against the W2 strain and 1.10 ± 0.06 µg/mL against the 3D7 strain.

Because the walnut tree is one of the most abundant trees in Iran, it was tried to synthesize Bi2O2CO3 QDNSs using a walnut skin extract. The saturation magnetization for Bi2O2CO3 QDNSs was calculated to be 68.1. To detect H. pylori, a nanohybrid-based BabA immunosensor is developed herein. BabA is an outer membrane protein and one of the major virulence factors of H. pylori. To design the immunosensor, an Au electrode is loaded with palladium nanoparticles (Pdnano) by electrodeposition to generate reduced graphene oxide (rGO)/poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT). The immobilization of these nanostructured materials imparts a large surface area and electroconductivity to bio-immune-sensing molecules (here, the BabA antigen and antibodies). After optimization, the fabricated immunosensor has the ability to detect antigens (H. pylori) in a linear range from 0.2 to 20 ng/mL with a low LOD (0.2 ng/mL). The developed immunosensor is highly specific, sensitive and reproducible. Additionally, in silico methods were employed to better understand the hybrid nanomaterials of the fabricated Pdnano/rGO/PEDOT/Au electrode. Simulations performed by molecular docking, and Metropolis Monte Carlo adsorption studies were conducted. Since few studies focused on the genome level variation in rice genotypes with contrasting response to salt stress, genomic resequencing in diverse genetic materials is needed to elucidate the molecular basis of salt tolerance mechanisms. The whole genome sequences of two salt tolerant (Pokkali and Nona Bokra) and three salt sensitive (Bengal, Cocodrie, and IR64) rice genotypes were analyzed. A total of 413 million reads were generated with a mean genome coverage of 93% and mean sequencing depth of 18X. Analysis of the DNA polymorphisms revealed that 2347 nonsynonymous SNPs and 51 frameshift mutations could differentiate the salt tolerant from the salt sensitive genotypes. The integration of genome-wide polymorphism information with the QTL mapping and expression profiling data led to identification of 396 differentially expressed genes with large effect variants in the coding regions. These genes were involved in multiple salt tolerance mechanisms, such as ion transport, oxidative stress tolerance, signal transduction, and transcriptional regulation. The genome-wide DNA polymorphisms and the promising candidate genes identified in this study represent a valuable resource for molecular breeding of salt tolerant rice varieties.Mutualistic interactions play a major role in shaping the Earth's biodiversity, yet the consistent drivers governing these beneficial interactions are unknown. Using a long-term (8 year, including > 256 h behavioural observations) dataset of the interaction patterns of a service-resource mutualism (the cleaner-client interaction), we identified consistent and dynamic predictors of mutualistic outcomes. We showed that cleaning was consistently more frequent when the presence of third-party species and client partner abundance locally increased (creating choice options), whilst partner identity regulated client behaviours. Eight of our 12 predictors of cleaner and client behaviour played a dynamic role in predicting both the quality (duration) and quantity (frequency) of interactions, and we suggest that the environmental context acting on these predictors at a specific time point will indirectly regulate their role in cleaner-client interaction patterns context-dependency can hence regulate mutualisms both directly and indirectly. To design the immunosensor, an Au electrode is loaded with palladium nanoparticles (Pdnano) by electrodeposition to generate reduced graphene oxide (rGO)/poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT). The immobilization of these nanostructured materials imparts a large surface area and electroconductivity to bio-immune-sensing molecules (here, the BabA antigen and antibodies). After optimization, the fabricated immunosensor has the ability to detect antigens (H. pylori) in a linear range from 0.2 to 20 ng/mL with a low LOD (0.2 ng/mL). The developed immunosensor is highly specific, sensitive and reproducible. Additionally, in silico methods were employed to better understand the hybrid nanomaterials of the fabricated Pdnano/rGO/PEDOT/Au electrode. Analysis of the DNA polymorphisms revealed that 2347 nonsynonymous SNPs and 51 frameshift mutations could differentiate the salt tolerant from the salt sensitive genotypes. The integration of genome-wide polymorphism information with the QTL mapping and expression profiling data led to identification of 396 differentially expressed genes with large effect variants in the coding regions. These genes were involved in multiple salt tolerance mechanisms, such as ion transport, oxidative stress tolerance, signal transduction, and transcriptional regulation. Results Locomotor skills predicted perceived motor competence, which predicted physical activity. Perceived motor competence showed a mediation effect on the path from locomotor skills to physical activity. There was no significant relationship between locomotor skills and physical activity. Conclusion The results from this study provide initial evidence to support the hypothesis proposed by Stodden and colleagues. These data provide a rationale to include both perceived and actual motor competence within targeted intervention strategies to increase physical activity behaviors for youth with visual impairments. Future research should consider following participants longitudinally to test the roles of perceived and actual motor competence as factors supporting positive developmental trajectories for health.The transition to parenthood is associated with declines in moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and increases in light PA (LPA). We examined housework load and PA levels of three cohorts of couples across 12 months recruited from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada between January 2007 and December 2011. Participants (N = 314; 102 not expecting a child, 136 expecting first-child, 76 expecting second child) completed baseline demographics and 7-day accelerometry, followed by assessments at 6 and 12 months. Hierarchical linear regression assessed the association between PA, housework, and perceptions of partner's workload. New fathers' but not new mothers' housework was positively related to their LPA at 12 months. Perceptions of partners' workload were positively related to new mothers LPA, and negatively related to new fathers MVPA at 12 months. Mediation analysis determined if perceived behavioral control accounts for the relationship between the discrepancy in housework between partners' PA. Results suggest that if a woman perceives their partner to do more housework their own PA increases, whereas for men their PA decreases. These findings highlight the importance of the division of housework on PA for both mothers and fathers.This is the first study to develop research priorities in tobacco use and substance abuse in Saudi Arabia. Preventive services received the highest priority in research categories. Smoking relapse and its determinants were ranked the top research priorities. Parents of 151 paediatric prelingual CI recipients filled the questionnaire using a 5-point rating scale, with a score of 1-5. These scores were correlated with the CAP and SIR scores.Results and discussion There was a positive correlation of QoL score with rehabilitation outcomes (r = 0.4638 and P ≤ 0.00001 for CAP; r = 0.3563 and P ≤ 0.00001 for SIR scores). The maximum scores (≥4.0) were given by parents for integration into educational system (4.86), response to environmental sounds (4.12) and overall parental satisfaction about child's performance (4.09). Minimum scores were given for ability to speak in sentences (2.9) and response to verbal sounds at a distance (3.23).Conclusion The QoL of these children as assessed by the institutional questionnaire have correlated with the rehabilitation outcomes. The asymmetry index of the preoperative CBF was obtained from ASL using 3 PLDs (1525 ms, 2025 ms, and 2525 ms) and single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). Cerebrovascular reactivity (CVR) was measured from SPECT with acetazolamide challenge. The slope of the regression line obtained from the asymmetry index of three PLDs was defined as the slope index. Results The CHP phenomenon was observed in seven patients (11.5%), one of whom developed CHP syndrome (1.6%).     In esthetic medicine, different techniques have been used against the aging of the human skin especially in the facial area. Hyaluronic acid is used for improving the quantity of water and extracellular matrix molecule. The aim of this study is a clinical and histological evaluation of the effect of low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid fragments mixed with amino acid (HAAM) on the rejuvenation the face skin treated with intradermal microinjections.

    Twenty women with mean age 45 range from 35 to 64 were studied, thereof 8 in menopause and 12 of childbearing age. The patients were treated with the HAAM products by mesotherapy technique; before and after 3months of the therapeutic procedure, each patient underwent small biopsies with a circular punch biopsy.

    The clinical results of the present study showed that the administration of the dermal filler containing fragments of hyaluronic acid between 20 and 38 monomers and amino acid via dermis injection technique produces an esthetic improvement in the faces of the treated patients, while the histological evaluation shows an increased fibroblast activity with the production of type III reticular collagen and increased number of vessels and epidermis thickness.

Black individuals also have increased risk of worse outcomes associated with social determinants of health including socioeconomic factors such as income, education, and employment. This narrative review included studies originally spanning a period of approximately one decade (December 2009-December 2019) from online databases and with subsequent updates though June 2020. The findings to date suggest pervasive inequities across common conditions and injuries in physical medicine and rehabilitation for this group compared to other racial/ethnic groups. We found health disparities across several domains for Black persons with stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, hip/knee osteoarthritis, and fractures, as well as cardiovascular and pulmonary disease. Although more research is needed, some contributing factors include low access to rehabilitation care, fewer referrals, lower utilization rates, perceived bias, and more self-reliance, even after adjusting for hospital characteristics, age, disease severity, and relevant socioeconomic variables. Some studies found that Black individuals were less likely to receive care that was concordant with clinical guidelines per the reported literature. Our review highlights many gaps in the literature on racial disparities that are particularly notable in cardiac, pulmonary, and critical care rehabilitation. This narrative review included studies originally spanning a period of approximately one decade (December 2009-December 2019) from online databases and with subsequent updates though June 2020. The findings to date suggest pervasive inequities across common conditions and injuries in physical medicine and rehabilitation for this group compared to other racial/ethnic groups. We found health disparities across several domains for Black persons with stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, hip/knee osteoarthritis, and fractures, as well as cardiovascular and pulmonary disease. Following a dataset cleanup of B5 subgenotype of EV-A71, we detected earlier B5 subgenotypes of EV-A71 sequences that had been circulating in Malaysia and Singapore since the year 2000, which was before the 2003 outbreak that occurred in Sarawak. The Bayesian inference indicated that the most recent common ancestor of B5 subgenotype EV-A71 appeared in September, 1994 (1994.75). With respect to the overall prevalence, geographical reconstruction revealed that the B5 subgenotype EV-A71 originated singly from single-source cluster and subsequently developed several active lineages.
