Workers in the healthcare sector are at high risk of developing occupational hand eczema mainly due to frequent exposure to irritants and/or allergens. Amongst workers in healthcare, nurses are at higher risk of developing hand dermatitis.
To evaluate the effectiveness of a short educational intervention program in preventing occupational hand eczema in nurse apprentices, using two objective tools, namely TEWL and EH, and the HECSI score.
Data regarding professions, wet work exposure, activities performed during working hours, self-reported eczema were collected from 230 nurse students, divided in two study groups the intervention and the control group (CG). The intervention group (IG) was given education about risks and proper skin care and was provided with cosmeceuticals to be used for skin care during hospital activity. The evaluation of skin properties was performed using questionnaires, HECSI score, measurement of transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and epidermal hydration (EH).
A number of 139 apprentice nurses completed the study. Of those participants who completed the study, 19.1% from CG and 19.6% from IG reported, at T1, hand eczema in the last 3 months, while at T2 (3 months later), 59.52 % of the CG and only 11.34 % from the IG stated having eczema in the last 3 months. In the IG, results showed an improvement of CM with 17% and of TEWL with 16%, with only a 0.5% improvement of CM in CG and a marked impairment of TEWL by 33%.
Hand eczema is a common occupational dermatosis affecting the medical staff, even during apprenticeship. Early preventive training programs are effective in reducing the burden of occupational contact dermatitis.

Presence of pH-responsive shells bestowed the core-shell NB like structures with the ability to actively tune their surface pore opening and closing in response to environmental pH switch. To illustrate the potential use of the NB-shells in the field of anticancer drug delivery, the particles were loaded with doxorubicin (Dox) with an encapsulation efficiency of 42% and Dox loaded NB-shells exhibited enhanced efficacy in C6 glioma cells.

The complete mitochondrial genome of medicinal plant, Euonymus alatus, was sequenced for the first time. The genome sequence is 1,045,106 bp in length (GenBank accession number MW009108), with 44.98% GC contents. There are 72 genes in the genome, including 41 known protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNAs (tRNAs), and three ribosomal RNAs (rRNAs). The phylogenetic trees of 28 species are constructed using the maximum-likelihood method. The information will provide references for phylogenetic research.Polygonatum cirrhifolium (Wall.) Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) is the host cellular receptor that locks onto the surface spike protein of the 2002 SARS coronavirus (SARS-CoV-1) and of the novel, highly transmissible and deadly 2019 SARS-CoV-2, responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic. One strategy to avoid the virus infection is to design peptides by extracting the human ACE2 peptidase domain α1-helix, which would bind to the coronavirus surface protein, preventing the virus entry into the host cells. The natural α1-helix peptide has a stronger affinity to SARS-CoV-2 than to SARS-CoV-1. Another peptide was designed by joining α1 with the second portion of ACE2 that is far in the peptidase sequence yet grafted in the spike protein interface with ACE2. Previous studies have shown that, among several α1-based peptides, the hybrid peptidic scaffold is the one with the highest/strongest affinity for SARS-CoV-1, which is comparable to the full-length ACE2 affinity. In this work, binding and folding dynamics of the natural and designed ACE2-based peptides were simulated by the well-known coarse-grained structure-based model, with the computed thermodynamic quantities correlating with the experimental binding affinity data. Furthermore, theoretical kinetic analysis of native contact formation revealed the distinction between these processes in the presence of the different binding partners SARS-CoV-1 and SARS-CoV-2 spike domains. Additionally, our results indicate the existence of a two-state folding mechanism for the designed peptide en route to bind to the spike proteins, in contrast to a downhill mechanism for the natural α1-helix peptides. The presented low-cost simulation protocol demonstrated its efficiency in evaluating binding affinities and identifying the mechanisms involved in the neutralization of spike-ACE2 interaction by designed peptides. Over the past decade, a significant research effort has investigated uranium compounds associated with the front-end of the nuclear fuel cycle, including uranium ore concentrates (UOCs), UF4, UF6, and UO2F2. These efforts have furthered uranium chemistry with an aim to expand and improve the field of nuclear forensics. Focus has been given to the morphology of various uranium compounds, trace elemental and chemical impurities in process samples of uranium compounds, the degradation of uranium compounds, particularly under environmental conditions, and the development of improved or new techniques for analysis of uranium compounds. Overall, this research effort has identified relevant chemical and physical characteristics of uranium compounds that can be used to help discern the origin, process history, and postproduction history for a sample of uranium material. This effort has also identified analytical techniques that could be brought to bear for nuclear forensics purposes. Live cell imaging by fluorescence microscopy is a useful tool for elucidating the localization and function of proteins and organelles in single cells. Especially, time-lapse analysis observing the same field sequentially can be used to observe cells of many organisms and analyze the dynamics of intracellular molecules. By single-cell analysis, it is possible to elucidate the characteristics and fluctuations of individual cells, which cannot be elucidated from the data obtained by averaging the characteristics of an ensemble of cells. The primitive red alga Cyanidioschyzon merolae has a very simple structure and is considered a useful model organism for studying the mechanism of organelle division, since the division is performed synchronously with the cell cycle. However, C. merolae does not have a rigid cell wall, and environmental changes such as low temperature or high pH cause morphological change and disruption easily. Therefore, morphological studies of C. merolae typically use fixed cells. In this study, we constructed a long-term time-lapse observation system to analyze the dynamics of proteins in living C. merolae cells. From the results, we elucidate the cell division process of single living cells, including the function of intracellular components.Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) plays a central role in analyzing structures by imaging a large area of brain tissue at nanometer scales. The inflammation storm involved in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection and worsening and the psychological stress derived from current quarantine conditions can affect the course of many skin and scalp conditions. This study examined the possible effects of COVID-19 on alopecia areata (AA) relapse in patients suffering from these scalp conditions during the pandemic.
The study was carried out in the form of an observational cross-sectional type using a questionnaire sent by mail to a cohort of patients affected by AA during the pandemic from March 2020 to October 2020.
During the pandemic, AA relapse was reported in 42.5% of the participants who also declared COVID-19 infection, confirmed by nasopharyngeal swab or hematological analysis. The relapse was reported about 2months later COVID-19 infection (median of 2.14months) and 74.0% of these participants continue to experience AA symptoms when the survey was proposed. Only 12.5% of participants reported AA relapse in the absence of COVID-19 infection.
The present study reported a significant relapse in patients suffering from AA and infected by COVID-19. This phenomenon could be attributed to the inflammation storm typical of COVID-19 infection and the psychological stress derived from quarantine conditions.

Total body water (TBW) is distributed between the extracellular (ECW) and intracellular fluid compartments (ICW). In clinical practice, the judgment of hydration status does not allow to distinguish between ECW and ICW. Here, we evaluate the hydration status in children with chronic kidney disease by analyzing TBW, ECW, and ICW.

By single-cell analysis, it is possible to elucidate the characteristics and fluctuations of individual cells, which cannot be elucidated from the data obtained by averaging the characteristics of an ensemble of cells. The primitive red alga Cyanidioschyzon merolae has a very simple structure and is considered a useful model organism for studying the mechanism of organelle division, since the division is performed synchronously with the cell cycle. However, C. merolae does not have a rigid cell wall, and environmental changes such as low temperature or high pH cause morphological change and disruption easily. Therefore, morphological studies of C. merolae typically use fixed cells. This study examined the possible effects of COVID-19 on alopecia areata (AA) relapse in patients suffering from these scalp conditions during the pandemic. The study was carried out in the form of an observational cross-sectional type using a questionnaire sent by mail to a cohort of patients affected by AA during the pandemic from March 2020 to October 2020. During the pandemic, AA relapse was reported in 42.5% of the participants who also declared COVID-19 infection, confirmed by nasopharyngeal swab or hematological analysis. The relapse was reported about 2months later COVID-19 infection (median of 2.14months) and 74.0% of these participants continue to experience AA symptoms when the survey was proposed. Only 12.5% of participants reported AA relapse in the absence of COVID-19 infection. The present study reported a significant relapse in patients suffering from AA and infected by COVID-19. This phenomenon could be attributed to the inflammation storm typical of COVID-19 infection and the psychological stress derived from quarantine conditions. Current management and control of Aedes aegypti populations in urban areas are based on the spraying of insecticides. Here, we evaluated the effectiveness of spraying larvicide (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis) using a truck-mounted Buffalo Turbine and adulticide (Deltamethrin) using a Grizzly ULV Sprayer in an urban area with high densities of Ae. aegypti and many cryptic and difficult to reach aquatic breeding habitats. Experiments were conducted in a tire shop located in Miami-Dade County, Florida with approximately 100,000 used airplane tires. Insecticide interventions were performed after a baseline survey consisting of 3 weeks of collections, followed by two insecticide interventions (i) application of the adulticide followed by the application of larvicide on the subsequent week; and (ii) application of both adulticide and larvicide on two consecutive weeks. The first insecticide intervention resulted in a non-significant decrease in the relative abundance of Ae. aegypti. On the other hand, the second insecticide intervention significantly reduced the Ae. aegypti relative abundance (P less then 0.002). Our results demonstrated that the combined insecticide interventions on two consecutive weeks significantly reduced the relative abundance of Ae. aegypti. This result indicated that the larvicide was successfully propelled reaching cryptical and difficult to reach aquatic habitats. However, even though the number of mosquitoes was greatly reduced, it was still greatly above the 10-mosquito threshold by trap night used by the Miami-Dade Mosquito Control Division to deploy an inspector to survey the area. The flow intrinsically contains coherent structures which has frequencies corresponding to the boundary frequency, which could be associated with the regulation of endothelial cells. From the proposed comparative study, it is found that KEC rates and the vortex-identification are significantly influenced by the shear-thinning blood properties. In total, 1,901 and 8,199 patients were identified as "de-escalated DAPT" (switched to aspirin and clopidogrel) and "unchanged DAPT" (continued on aspirin and ticagrelor) cohorts, respectively. With a mean follow-up of 8 months, the incidence rates (per 100 person-year) of death, AMI readmission and **** were 2.89, 3.68, and 4.91 in the de-escalated cohort and 2.42, 3.28, and 4.72 in the unchanged cohort, respectively, based on an inverse probability of treatment weighted approach that adjusting for baseline characteristics of the patients. Multivariate Cox regression analyses showed the two groups had no significant differences in the hazard risk of death, AMI admission, and ****. The primary outcome measure was the incidence of site-specific risk of colorectal neoplasms in patients with NAFLD reported as ORs which pooled under a random-effects model and calculated via Mantel-Haenszel weighting. Post-encephalitic parkinsonism has been reported in surviving patients of H1N1 infections, but not all cases of encephalitic H1N1 infection present with these neurological symptoms, suggesting that interactions with an environmental neurotoxin could promote more severe neurological damage. The heavy metal, manganese (Mn), is a potential interacting factor with H1N1 because excessive exposure early in life can induce long-lasting effects on neurological function through inflammatory activation of glial cells. In the current study, we used a two-hit model of neurotoxin-pathogen exposure to examine whether exposure to Mn during juvenile development would induce a more severe neuropathological response following infection with H1N1 in adulthood. To test this hypothesis, C57BL/6 **** were exposed to MnCl2 in drinking water (50 mg/kg/day) for 30 days from days 21-51 postnatal, then infected intranasally with H1N1 three weeks later. Analyses of dopaminergic neurons, microglia and astrocytes in basal ganglia indicated that although there was no significant loss of dopaminergic neurons within the substantia nigra pars compacta, there was more pronounced activation of microglia and astrocytes in animals sequentially exposed to Mn and H1N1, as well as altered patterns of histone acetylation. Whole transcriptome Next Generation Sequencing (RNASeq) analysis was performed on the substantia nigra and revealed unique patterns of gene expression in the dual-exposed group, including genes involved in antioxidant activation, mitophagy and neurodegeneration. With the emergence of biobank-scale datasets, along with new statistical metrics to approximate strength of purifying selection at the variant level, it is now possible to correlate a proxy of individual relative fitness with a range of medical phenotypes. We calculated a per-individual deleterious load score by summing the total number of derived alleles per individual after incorporating a weight that approximates strength of purifying selection. We assessed four methods for the weight, including GERP, phyloP, CADD, and fitcons. By quantitatively tracking each of these scores with the site frequency spectrum, we identified phyloP as the most appropriate weight. The phyloP-weighted load score was then calculated across 15,129,142 variants in 335,161 individuals from the UK Biobank and tested for association on 1,380 medical phenotypes. After accounting for multiple test correction, we observed a strong association of the load score amongst coding sites only on 27 traits including body mass, adiposity and metabolic rate. We further observed that the association signals were driven by common variants (derived allele frequency > 5%) with high phyloP score (phyloP > 2). Finally, through permutation analyses, we showed that the load score amongst coding sites had an excess of nominally significant associations on many medical phenotypes. It is unclear if amianthoid transformation (AT) of costal cartilage extracellular matrix (ECM) has an impact on the development of pectus excavatum (PE) and pectus carinatum (PC).
AT foci were examined in intrasurgical biopsy specimens of costal cartilages of children (8-17 years old) with PE (n = 12) and PC (n = 12) and in age-matching autopsy control samples (n = 10) using histological and immunohistochemical staining, atomic force and nonlinear optical microscopy, transmission and scanning electron microscopy, morphometry and statistics.
AT areas were identified in the costal cartilage ECM in children with normal chest, PE and PC. Each type of the AT areas ("canonical", "intertwined", "fine-fibred" and "intralacunary") had a unique morphological pattern of thickness and alignment of amianthoid fibers (AFs). AFs were formed via lateral aggregation of collagen type II fibrils in the intact ECM. Foci of the AT were observed significantly more frequently in the PE and PC groups. Post-encephalitic parkinsonism has been reported in surviving patients of H1N1 infections, but not all cases of encephalitic H1N1 infection present with these neurological symptoms, suggesting that interactions with an environmental neurotoxin could promote more severe neurological damage. The heavy metal, manganese (Mn), is a potential interacting factor with H1N1 because excessive exposure early in life can induce long-lasting effects on neurological function through inflammatory activation of glial cells. In the current study, we used a two-hit model of neurotoxin-pathogen exposure to examine whether exposure to Mn during juvenile development would induce a more severe neuropathological response following infection with H1N1 in adulthood. To test this hypothesis, C57BL/6 mice were exposed to MnCl2 in drinking water (50 mg/kg/day) for 30 days from days 21-51 postnatal, then infected intranasally with H1N1 three weeks later. Analyses of dopaminergic neurons, microglia and astrocytes in basal ganglia indicated that although there was no significant loss of dopaminergic neurons within the substantia nigra pars compacta, there was more pronounced activation of microglia and astrocytes in animals sequentially exposed to Mn and H1N1, as well as altered patterns of histone acetylation. Whole transcriptome Next Generation Sequencing (RNASeq) analysis was performed on the substantia nigra and revealed unique patterns of gene expression in the dual-exposed group, including genes involved in antioxidant activation, mitophagy and neurodegeneration. With the emergence of biobank-scale datasets, along with new statistical metrics to approximate strength of purifying selection at the variant level, it is now possible to correlate a proxy of individual relative fitness with a range of medical phenotypes. We calculated a per-individual deleterious load score by summing the total number of derived alleles per individual after incorporating a weight that approximates strength of purifying selection. We assessed four methods for the weight, including GERP, phyloP, CADD, and fitcons. By quantitatively tracking each of these scores with the site frequency spectrum, we identified phyloP as the most appropriate weight. The phyloP-weighted load score was then calculated across 15,129,142 variants in 335,161 individuals from the UK Biobank and tested for association on 1,380 medical phenotypes. After accounting for multiple test correction, we observed a strong association of the load score amongst coding sites only on 27 traits including body mass, adiposity and metabolic rate. We further observed that the association signals were driven by common variants (derived allele frequency > 5%) with high phyloP score (phyloP > 2). Finally, through permutation analyses, we showed that the load score amongst coding sites had an excess of nominally significant associations on many medical phenotypes. This study aimed to evaluate the trends of firearm-related mortality in women from the years 2007 to 2016 in order to determine their profile and to associate these indicators with public policy and strategies to reduce mortality.This is an ecological time-series study using secondary data of women aged 10 to 49 years old collected through the mortality information system (SIM) in Brazil. Furthermore, independent characteristics such as education, color, race and civil status were also collected from SIM. Data was analyzed using the Join Point open source software version.There was an increase in the mortality rate of women who received 4 to the 7 years of education, were single, and brown-skinned. There was a significantly increased rate of mortality in women whose ages ranged from 20 to 29 years followed by 30 to 39 years; the rate was also significantly higher in the northeast region followed by the southeast region.To significantly higher in the northeast region followed by the southeast region.There is a need for professional training to assist women in vulnerable situations.

Cerebral hemorrhage accounts for approximately 18% to 24% of all strokes in Asian countries. Cerebral hemorrhage is one of the most destructive subtypes of stroke and has high morbidity and mortality. Based on the current research, it has been confirmed that neither surgical treatment nor current drug treatment is the most preferred treatment. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is increasingly being used to treat cerebral hemorrhage, and the activating blood and removing stasis (ABRS) method has received more attention. At present, there is still a lack of high-quality clinical research on the treatment of acute cerebral hemorrhage.

The secondary outcomes include the percentage of hematoma enlargement after treatment, Barthel index (BI), National Institutes of Health stroke scale (NIHSS) score, mortality rate, all-cause mortality rate, TCM stroke syndrome evaluation scale score, and adverse events.

Primary trigeminal neuralgia (PTN) is a type of peripheral neuralgia that seriously affects people's lives. In recent years, complementary therapies and alternative therapies have played a significant role in treating PTN. However, there is a lack of comparison among all the complementary and alternative therapies at present. Thus, the aim of this study is to discuss the efficacy and safety of diverse complementary and alternative therapies by Bayesian network meta-analysis (NMA).
We will retrieve the Chinese and English databases to gather related randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of complementary and alternative therapies for treating PTN. The deadline is November 2020. Two independent researchers will be in charge of screening qualified literature, extracting data, and independently evaluating bias risks involved in the research. Pairwise meta-analysis and Bayesian network meta-analysis will be performed to assess all evidence. Then, we will use STATA16.0 as well as WinBUGS1.4.3 software for data analysis. Besides, the quality of NMA evidence will be classified by grading of recommendations assessment development and evaluation (GRADE).
This study will compare and rank the efficacy and safety of different complementary and alternative therapies in treating primary trigeminal neuralgia.

Controversies emerge over routine performances of whole-body computed tomography (WBCT) in patients with blunt polytrauma. The existing randomized and non-randomized evidence is inconclusive, and during observations of non-trauma, incidental findings, detected by WBCT, have left uncertainty regarding their consequences and optimal management. Additionally, previous meta-analyses have failed to address the limitations of primary studies and issues associated with incidental findings. Therefore, we planned a new systematic review to address these points.
We will search the PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Central databases from inception to December 31, 2020, with no language restriction and perform full-text evaluation of potentially relevant articles. We will include prospective and retrospective studies with a single-gate design that assessed diagnostic accuracy and/or yield of WBCT to detect traumatic injuries, and studies that assessed incidental findings detected by WBCT. Additionally, we will include randomized controlled trials and non-randomized comparative studies that assessed the effectiveness of WBCT against conventional care, including selective computed tomography (CT).

The structures of the ion-pairs formed in aqueous NaOH and LiOH solutions are elucidated by combining Raman multivariate curve resolution (Raman-MCR) experiments and ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulations. The results extend prior findings to reveal that the initially formed ion-pairs are predominantly water-shared, with the hydroxide ion retaining its full first hydration-shell, while direct contact ion-pairing only becomes significant at higher concentrations. Our results confirm previous experiments and simulations indicating greater ion-pairing in aqueous LiOH than NaOH as well as at high temperatures. Our results further imply that NaOH and LiOH ion-pairing free energies have an approximately linear (rather than square-root) dependence on ion concentration (in the molar range), with positive enthalpies and entropies that increase with concentration, thus implying that water-mediated interactions enthalpically disfavor and entropically favor ion-pair formation.A new hybrid nanomaterial based on the immobilization of cobalt-containing polyoxometalate (CoPOM) on the surface of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was designed for an efficient electrocatalytic water splitting reaction. First, the surface of rGO was functionalized with aminopropylsilyl groups and protonated with hydrochloric acid to produce ammonium groups. Then, the electrostatic interaction of positively charged rGO-supported ammonium groups with anionic CoPOM produced a CoPOM-APTS-rGO hybrid nanomaterial. The achieved hybrid nanomaterial exhibited a low overpotential of 128 mV versus NHE at a current density of 10 mA cm-2 in the electrocatalytic water oxidation at pH 7. In addition, a fast reaction kinetic with a Tafel slope of 74 mV dec-1 was seen in the presence of the prepared hybrid nanomaterial. It was found that three hydroxyethylamines could stabilize the octanol-water mixture to form transparent and isotropic SFMEs including nanoaggregates-rich pre-ouzo zone, regardless of the number of the hydroxyl group. Among them, 2-(dimethyl amino) ethanol (DMEA)-based SFME possesses the largest single-phase region and most sensitive to CO2 and the changes in temperature. With bubbling of CO2/N2 or decreasing/increasing temperature, both the single-phase region and pre-ouzo zone reversibly shrink and expand, as well as with breathing. However, CO2/N2-induced change is more significant than that induced by temperature. The former is mainly ascribed to the reversible protonation and deprotonation of DMEA, while the latter is generally interpreted as the effects of temperature on hydrogen bond interaction. Note that CO2 leads to a thorough demusification from Winsor IV ME to oil-rich and water-rich two phases without nanoaggregates, while cooling only causes to a particular phase separation, producing two new MEs phases, not typical Winsor I or II MEs. A state-of-the-art review is therefore needed to summarize the recent significant models and numerical simulation techniques as well as to discuss key ongoing research topics arising from various new engineering practices. The theoretical basis of the LW equation is first introduced in this review and recent progress in mathematical models is then summarized to demonstrate the modifications and extensions of this equation to various microchannels and porous media. These include capillary tubes with nonuniform and noncircular cross sections, discrete fractures, and capillary tubes that are not straight as well as heterogeneous porous media. Twenty attending and resident surgeons rated their anticipation of an impending adverse event while watching 20 videos of laparoscopic cholecystectomies with and without adverse events. After watching each video, they assessed surgeon skills and self-assessed their anticipation ratings. All participants answered a general confidence questionnaire before and after the study.
Videos with adverse events led to significantly higher anticipation of adverse events (P<0.001), lower surgeon skill rating (P<0.001), and higher self-assessment in their anticipation ratings (P<0.001) across both participant groups. We highlight macaques and marmosets as key animal models for human social behavior and summarize recent findings in the social domain for both species. The Toronto Alexithymia Scale-20 (TAS-20) and the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ) were applied. Genotypes of rs6295 of 5-HT1A and rs6311 of 5-HT2A were determined. Ordinary least-squared regression models with robust standard errors were applied to investigate associations of the main and interaction effects of childhood maltreatment and the polymorphisms with alexithymia. Childhood trauma, but none of the investigated polymorphisms showed main effects on alexithymia. However, childhood trauma showed significant CTQ sum score x rs6295 interactions in male subjects in both samples such that the presence of the G-allele diminished the CTQ associated increase in the TAS-20 sum scores. Our results provide arguments for a link between retinal dysfunction, impaired visual processing and VH in schizophrenia.
Automatic segmentation of retinal blood vessels makes a major contribution in CADx of various ophthalmic and cardiovascular diseases. A procedure to segment thin and thick retinal vessels is essential for medical analysis and diagnosis of related diseases. In this article, a novel methodology for robust vessel segmentation is proposed, handling the existing challenges presented in the literature.
The proposed methodology consists of three stages, pre-processing, main processing, and post-processing. The first stage consists of applying filters for image smoothing. The main processing stage is divided into two configurations, the first to segment thick vessels through the new optimized top-hat, homomorphic filtering, and median filter. Then, the second configuration is used to segment thin vessels using the proposed optimized top-hat, homomorphic filtering, matched filter, and segmentation using the MCET-HHO multilevel algorithm. Finally, morphological image operations are carried out in the post-processing stage.

Gathering a better grasp on the adipose stromal vascular fraction (SVF) is demanding among clinicians for osteoarthritis (OA) care because of its promising but multifaceted clinical outcomes. The aim of this preclinical in vitro study was to test whether the mechanical approach with Hy-Tissue SVF system, a class IIa CE marked device of adipose tissue micro-fragmentation, influences the biological features and functions of SVF. We compared mechanical generated-SVF (mSVF) with the enzymatic generated-SVF (eSVF) by testing cell survival, phenotype, differentiation, and paracrine properties using ELISA assays. Both adipose SVF showed 80% viable cells and enrichment for CD-44 marker. The mSVF product preserved the functions of cell populations within the adipose tissue; however, it displayed lowered nucleated cell recovery and CFU-F than eSVF. As for multipotency, mSVF and eSVF showed similar differentiation commitment for osteochondral lineages. Both adipose SVF exhibited an increased release of VEGF, HGF, IGF-1 and PDGF-bb, involved in pathways mediating osteochondral repair and cell migration. Both mSVF and eSVF also displayed high release for the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10. After in vitro culture, supernatants from both mSVF and eSVF groups showed a low release of cytokines except for IL-10, thereby giving evidence of functional changes after culture expansion. In this study, mSVF showed active cell populations in the adipose tissue comparable to eSVF with excellent survival, differentiation and paracrine properties under a new mechanical adipose tissue micro-fragmentation system; thereby suggesting its potential use as a minimally invasive technique for OA treatment.Herbicides have proven to be a boon for agricultural fields. Seeds of five different genotypes of V. mungo were treated with a series of concentrations of glyphosate ranging from 1 to 10 mM, and their effects on mitotic cell division were studied. Healthy and uniform-sized seeds were selected and were allowed to grow in Petri plates for 3 days, and all the doses were maintained in triplicates. Roots were fixed at day 3 after treatment (DAT) for cytological microscopic slide preparation. The results obtained indicate the dose-dependent reduction in the mitotic index in all the genotypes and an increase in the percentage of chromosomal aberrations (CAs) and relative abnormality rate (RAR). Most commonly observed chromosome aberrations at lower doses ( less then 6 mM) were fragments, stickiness, and disoriented metaphase, while at higher doses (6 to 10 mM) bridges, laggards, spindle disorientation, and clumping were obvious. The increase in the percentage of CAs and RAR indicates the inhibitory effect of glyphosate on cell cycle progression at various stages in root tip cells. The present study is a fine example of a biomarker-based genotoxic assessment of mitotic damage caused by glyphosate.Accomplishing a reliable lineage-specific differentiation of stem cells is vital in tissue engineering applications, however, this need remained unmet. The expressions of cardiac genes were remarkably increased with increasing CExo concentration, signifying a dose-dependent induction of hMSCs. Range of motion (ROM) at the fused level was measured using a flexion-extension lateral radiograph preoperatively and 1 year postoperatively. Patients were classified into the Fusion or Unconfirmed Fusion group by computed tomography (CT) 1 year postoperatively. Furthermore, patients in the Unconfirmed Fusion group were classified into the Delayed Union or Nonunion group depending on the confirmation status of FF upon the following CT. The average preoperative ROM and clinical outcomes were compared between the three groups. The Fusion, Delayed Union, and Nonunion groups had 109, 14, and 13 patients, respectively. In the Nonunion group, the average ROM significantly decreased from 13.0° preoperatively to 4.9° postoperatively. There was a significant difference in the average preoperative ROM between the groups.
