Twenty-nine female soccer players (age 21.1 ± 4.5 years; height 169.7 ± 5.8 cm; body mass 66.2 ± 6.4 kg) performed three repetitions per leg of unilateral isometric 30° and 90° knee flexion (KF) tasks, and three repetitions total for a bilateral 90° isometric KF and Nordic hamstring exercise. Absolute reliability of most methods were acceptable ( less then 10%). Relative reliability within-session was fair to excellent (ICC≥0.784; lower bound 95%CI ≥0.623). Greater variability in between-session relative reliability was observed during the unilateral tests, demonstrating poor to good (ICC = 0.698-0.798; lower bound 95%CI = 0.274-0.638). Bilateral assessments demonstrated similar ranges of poor to excellent (ICC = 0.679-0.963; lower bound 95%CI = 0.231-0.790). Agreement between-session for inter-limb asymmetry identification was slight and fair in the unilateral tests, with moderate to substantial agreement demonstrated in the bilateral. Being the most reliable within- and between-sessions, demonstrating substantial agreement in asymmetry between-sessions, the NHE would be most appropriate to identify inter-limb asymmetry and assess chronic changes in hamstring strength.
Upper limb (UL) impairment in stroke survivors is both multifactorial and heterogeneous. Stratification of motor function helps identify the most sensitive and appropriate assessments, which in turn aids the design of effective and individualized rehabilitation strategies. We previously developed a stratification method combining the Grooved Pegboard Test (GPT) and Box and Block Test (BBT) to stratify poststroke UL motor function.
To investigate the resilience of the stratification method in a larger cohort and establish its appropriateness for clinical practice by investigating limitations of the GPT completion time.
Post hoc analysis of motor function for 96 community-dwelling participants with stroke (n = 68 male, 28 female, age 60.8 ± 14 years, 24.4 ± 36.6 months poststroke) was performed using the Wolf Motor Function Test (WMFT), Fugl-Meyer Assessment (F-M), BBT, and GPT. Hypothesis-free and hypothesis-based hierarchical cluster analyses were conducted to determine the resilience of the stratificatn purposes.La-related proteins (LARPs) share a La motif (LaM) followed by an RNA recognition motif (RRM). Together these are termed the La-module that, in the prototypical nuclear La protein and LARP7, mediates binding to the UUU-3'OH termination motif of nascent RNA polymerase III transcripts. We briefly review La and LARP7 activities for RNA 3' end binding and protection from exonucleases before moving to the more recently uncovered poly(A)-related activities of LARP1 and LARP4. Two features shared by LARP1 and LARP4 are direct binding to poly(A) and to the cytoplasmic poly(A)-binding protein (PABP, also known as PABPC1). Prospectively scored radiation pneumonitis (RP) observed in a national, randomized phase II dose-escalation trial for patients with locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) was investigated.
Patients with stage IIB-IIIB histologically proven NSCLC were treated with concomitant chemo-radiotherapy (oral Vinorelbine 3times/week) at 60Gy/30fx (A-59pts) and 66Gy/33fx (B-58pts) from 2009 to 2013 at five Danish RT centers. Grade 2 RP (CTCAEv3.0) was investigated with univariate analysis for association with clinical and dosimetric parameters, including dyspnea and cough at baseline and during RT. Multivariable logistic regression and Cox regression with regularization were used to find a multivariable model for RP≥G2.

Using LC-MS/MS technology, the occurrence of carnosine, anserine, and homocarnosine in skeletal muscle of 38 aquatic species (26 teleosts, 6 molluscs, and 6 crustaceans) and chicken breast was investigated. Of the 38 aquatic species examined, 24 species (23 teleosts and 1 mollusc) contained considerable amounts (>5 ng/g wet tissue) of HCDs, and anserine was the major component of HCDs in their skeletal muscles. Only 5 teleosts contained homocarnosine. Most invertebrates, with the exception of the sepia Uroteuthis chinensis, did not contain HCDs. The present findings greatly expand the HCD distribution data and provide insight into understanding the roles of HCDs in different animals and a nutritional assessment for marine aquatic species.Several Serratia species are widely distributed in nature, but Serratia marcescens is the only species frequently isolated in hospitals. This pathogen is mainly responsible for nosocomial infection, mostly in immunocompromised hosts. A 26-year-old woman with a twin pregnancy, regularly controlled, was hospitalized at 24 + 5 weeks of gestation due to scant vaginal bleeding, lower abdominal pain, and body temperature up to 37.5°C. Gynecological examination revealed bleeding accompanied by dilatation of the cervix. The laboratory analyses revealed leukocytosis with elevated C-reactive protein (CRP). Treatment was initiated with intravenous antibiotic administration. After admission, fetal membranes spontaneously ruptured, and an extremely preterm dichorionic female twin birth occurred at 25 + 0 weeks of gestation. Both infants died two days after labor. Pathological and microbiological analyses revealed chorioamnionitis caused by S. marcescens. According to the antibiogram, antibiotic treatment was continued for the next 7 days. The examination of cervical and vaginal discharge samples was negative three days and two weeks after therapy. S. marcescens may cause spontaneous miscarriages and, in this important case, caused loss of discordant twins in an extremely preterm birth by an immunocompetent patient. Infection by S. marcescens cannot be excluded as a cause of discordant growth and needs to be confirmed by further research.

It was the purpose of this study to present the clinical and radiologic outcome of a consecutive series of patients treated by a stand-alone coracoclavicular stabilization using a so-called ***-hitch technique with a suture anchor.
Nineteen patients were treated with a specific surgical technique for distal clavicle fractures (11 left, 8 right) with either rupture or bony avulsion of the coracoclavicular ligaments. Fourteen patients were examined in our outpatient clinic for the purpose of this study after a mean follow-up of 5 years (1-12.2 years). The examination included scoring according to Constant Murley score (CMS), the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons Standardized Shoulder Assessment Form (ASES), the Subjective Shoulder Value (SSV), and follow-up radiographs. In modern practice, cemented, semiconstrained devices are most frequently used. The Discovery TEA has demonstrated promising early results, although there are a paucity of follow-up studies and no dedicated mid- to long-term series. We therefore present the longest, most complete such study to date.
A prospectively maintained local joint registry was interrogated to yield a consecutive series of Discovery TEAs performed at a single non-design center. The minimum follow-up period was set at 5 years. Revision procedures and TEAs performed for acute trauma were excluded. The primary outcome was survivorship of the implant. The secondary outcomes included clinical, radiographic, and patient-reported outcomes.
We identified 67 TEAs in 58 patients for inclusion at a mean of 98.5 ± 20.4 months from surgery. Four cases (6%) were lost to follow-ue required to elucidate the performance of this implant compared with more established designs. We have also demonstrated differences in implant survivorship owing to hand dominance for the first time.

The identification and precise removal of bony impingement lesions during arthroscopic débridement arthroplasty for elbow osteoarthritis require a high level of experience and surgical skill. We have developed a new technique to identify impinging osteophytes on a computer display by simulating elbow motion using the multiple positions of 3-dimensional (3D) elbow models created from computed tomography data. Moreover, an actual color-coded 3D model indicating the impinging osteophytes was created with a 3D printer and was used as an intraoperative reference tool. This study aimed to verify the efficacy of these new technologies in arthroscopic débridement for elbow osteoarthritis.
We retrospectively studied 16 patients treated with arthroscopic débridement for elbow osteoarthritis after a preoperative computer simulation. Even before the current pandemic, university students were known to have high levels of hassles, anxiety, and depressive symptoms. In all probability, the advent of COVID-19 has substantially raised these levels. The present study measured the emotional state of university students during lockdown and identified the relevant situational and psychological factors. To this end, 1,297 French university students were assessed during lockdown, which lasted from 16 March to 11 May in France. Situational factors included the belief that lockdown was compromising their future job prospects, COVID-19 symptoms, and health concerns. Psychological factors included students' implicit theory of emotion, and the coping strategies they used during lockdown. We explored the extent to which these factors were associated with levels of hassles, anxiety, and depressive symptoms. Results indicated that students' belief that lockdown was compromising their future job prospects was positively related to hassles (r = .34, p less then .001), while concerns about their own health and that of relatives were positively associated with anxiety (r = .37 and .34; p less then .001). In addition, use of the positive reframing coping strategy mediated the effect of students' implicit theory of emotion on their depressive symptoms. Even though the national lockdown is now over, the pandemic will continue to have a major impact on university students over the coming months. We identified the outcomes that were assessed or valued in the CEA studies and the DMT attributes that were important to patients with MS.Expert opinion Our literature review showed that the studies using CEA with QALYs failed to capture some important DMT attributes, e.g., route and frequency of administration, identified in the studies on the patients' preferences. Various approaches were available for incorporating the patients' preferences in the value assessment of DMTs for MS. The second generation of VAR2CSA-based vaccines could benefit from optimization approaches to broaden the activity spectrum against various placenta-binding isolates through continued advances in the structural understanding of the interaction with CSA.

In this COVID-19 pandemic, a non-contact handheld infrared thermometer is frequently used for fever screening. However, the handheld thermometer performance depends on the operator and the distance to the forehead. To address these problems, we present an infrared thermometer on the wall (iThermowall). The iThermowall is a low-cost non-contact thermometer, adapted for the use of fever screening in public areas without an operator. The hardware can measure human body temperature automatically when the distance between the sensor and forehead is adequate. Temperature measurement validation of the iThermowall was conducted by T-test analysis. The results show that the P-values for all the test is more significant than 0.05, means that the mean Celsius temperature for both groups (reference thermometer and iThermowall) are similar. Maize breeding programs need to produce material with improved resistance to increasing environmental stresses and incorporate the man and women farmer preferred traits that relate to yield, postharvest, nutritional, and processing qualities. This research uses gender-disaggregated data recorded during participatory on-farm maize trials by the Stress Tolerant Maize Program conducted in agroecological zones of Benin, Nigeria and Mali) to identify men and women farmer's expressed varietal and trait preferences in order to evaluate plant breeding strategy. A multi-stage varietal and trait identification process was used to identify gender shared and distinctive varietal trait preferences for product development and dissemination. The data indicates that progress has been made by the Project in considering the range of traits valued by both men and women farmers and indicates those that should be considered for gender-focused product pipeline development in the future. The study concludes by underlining the need for adjustment in breeding to improve partnerships with food scientists, postharvest specialists and private seed sector on the packaging and delivery of technologies to farmers and other value chain actors.
Having inadequate health care systems and poor socio-economic infrastructure, Bangladesh has been braving to contain the impact of current COVID-19 pandemic since March, 2020. To curb the diffusion of COVID-19, the local government has responded to the outbreak by enforcing a set of restricted measures on economic and social activities across the country.
Here, we aim to assess the propagation of COVID-19 by estimating the coronavirus active cases and mortality rate in two major business hubs of Bangladesh, namely Dhaka and Chittagong city under flexible lockdown conditions.
We apply a data-driven forecasting model using Susceptible, Exposed, Infected, Recovered and Deaths status through time to deal with coronavirus outbreak.

In this COVID-19 pandemic, a non-contact handheld infrared thermometer is frequently used for fever screening. However, the handheld thermometer performance depends on the operator and the distance to the forehead. To address these problems, we present an infrared thermometer on the wall (iThermowall). The iThermowall is a low-cost non-contact thermometer, adapted for the use of fever screening in public areas without an operator. The hardware can measure human body temperature automatically when the distance between the sensor and forehead is adequate. Temperature measurement validation of the iThermowall was conducted by T-test analysis. The results show that the P-values for all the test is more significant than 0.05, means that the mean Celsius temperature for both groups (reference thermometer and iThermowall) are similar. This research uses gender-disaggregated data recorded during participatory on-farm maize trials by the Stress Tolerant Maize Program conducted in agroecological zones of Benin, Nigeria and Mali) to identify men and women farmer's expressed varietal and trait preferences in order to evaluate plant breeding strategy. A multi-stage varietal and trait identification process was used to identify gender shared and distinctive varietal trait preferences for product development and dissemination. Primary aldosteronism (PA) is associated with an increased risk for dysglycemia. However, the effects of hyperaldosteronism on insulin sensitivity and β-cell function are unclear.
Using a cross-sectional study design, we assessed insulin sensitivity and pancreatic β-cell function from an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) in patients from two cohorts subjects with PA (n = 21) and essential hypertension control (EHC) subjects (n = 22). Age, sex, BMI, and mean arterial pressure adjusted measures of insulin sensitivity and β-cell function were compared between the groups.
PA individuals were less insulin sensitive compared to EHC subjects (Quantitative insulin sensitivity check index [QUICKI] 0.340 ± 0.006 vs. 0.374 ± 0.013, p < 0.001; Matsuda index 4.14 ± 0.49 vs. 7.87 ± 1.42, p < 0.001; S
11.45 ± 4.85 vs. 21.23 ± 6.11 dL/kg/min per μU/mL, p = 0.02). The hepatic insulin resistance index (HIRI) was higher in PA subjects (PA 5.61 ± 1.01 vs. EHC 4.13 ± 0.61, p = 0.002). The insulinogenic index (IGI), an index of β-cell function was higher in the PA cohort (PA 1.49 ± 0.27 vs. 1.11 ± 0.21 μU/mL/mg/dL, p = 0.03). However, the oral disposition index (DI) was similar between the groups (PA 4.77 ± 0.73 vs. EHC 5.46 ± 0.85, p = 0.42), which likely accounts for the similar glucose tolerance between the two cohorts, despite lower sensitivity.

In addition, externalizing behaviors positively predicted suicidal ideation, controlling for all other factors. Reliance on parental report to detect suicidal ideation in youth with ASD is a limitation of this study. Nonetheless, these findings highlight the importance of assessing and addressing suicidal ideation in children with ASD and comorbid anxiety disorders/OCD, and more importantly in those with elevated externalizing behaviors and perceptions of loneliness.

This systematic review and meta-analysis assessed the subjective and objective outcomes and complications of simple trapeziectomy (T) versus trapeziectomy with ligament reconstruction and tendon interposition (T + LRTI).
The PubMed, Embase, Web of science, and Cochrane electronic databases were searched from inception to Aug 31, 2020. Key words included "osteoarthrosis", "carpometacarpal joint", and "trapeziectomy". Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and controlled clinical trials (CCTs) including patients treated for trapeziometacarpal osteoarthritis were included. The subjective outcomes (visual analog scale [VAS] and disabilities of the arm, shoulder, and hand questionnaire scores), objective outcomes (grip strength, tip, and key pinch strength) and complications were extracted. The methodological quality of each was assessed independently. Meta-analysis was performed for comparative trials. The protocol for this meta-atical difference in key pinch strength, pain relief, and DASH. Furthermore, T + LRTI has more latrogenic injury, more short-term postoperative complications, and higher surgical costs. Considered comprehensively, if there is no special strength requirement, we recommend simple trapeziectomy.

Among healthy postmenopausal women, levels of CA125 and CA15.3 are influenced by demographic and reproductive factors, including race/ethnicity. In this study, we sought to examine the interaction between race/ethnicity and other correlates of these biomarkers and whether the racial differences observed are simply determined by other correlates with racial differences.
In archived sera from 946 postmenopausal women who participated in the 2001-2002 cycle of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, we measured CA125 and CA15.3 and examined their associations with health survey and examination data available in this cohort. We used multivariable linear regression to examine the association between CA125 and CA15.3 and race/ethnicity. We then calculated geometric means of these markers by demographic and reproductive factors stratified by race/ethnicity and used likelihood ratio tests to evaluate heterogeneity.
Non-white race was associated with lower CA125, with Non-Hispanic Black women beingnicity should be considered when assigning thresholds for these biomarkers being tested for diagnostic or screening purposes.

Blast-induced traumatic brain injury (bTBI) is a growing health concern due to the increased use of low-cost improvised explosive devices in modern warfare. Mild blast exposures are common amongst military personnel; however, these women and men typically do not have adequate recovery time from their injuries due to the transient nature of behavioral symptoms. bTBI has been linked to heterogeneous neuropathology, including brain edema, neuronal degeneration and cognitive abnormalities depending on the intensity of blast overpressure and frequency. A validated, open-ended shock tube model was used to deliver single or repetitive primary blast waves. The pathology of the BBB was assessed using immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry assays. All data were analyzed using the one-way ANOVA test.
We have demonstrated that exposure to repetitive blast injury affects the desmin-positive and CD13-positive subpopulations of pericytes in the BBB. Changes in astrocytes and microglia were also detected.
This study provides analysis of the BBB components after repetitive blast injury. These results will be critical as preventative and therapeutic strategies are established for veterans recovering from blast-induced traumatic brain injury.

The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to investigate whether behaviour change interventions promote changes in physical activity and anthropometrics (body mass, body mass index and waist circumference) in ambulatory hospital populations.
Randomised controlled trials were collected from five bibliographic databases (MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL) and PsycINFO). Meta-analyses were conducted using change scores from baseline to determine mean differences (MD), standardised mean differences (SMD) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI). The Grades of Recommendation, Assessment, Development and Evaluation approach was used to evaluate the quality of the evidence.
A total of 29 studies met the eligibility criteria and 21 were included in meta-analyses. Behaviour change interventions significantly increased physical activity (SMD 1.30; 95% CI 0.53 to 2.07, p< 0.01), and resulted in significant reductions in body mass (MD -2.74; 95% CI - ty are factors that need attention in future research. More than two-thirds of youth experience trauma during childhood, and up to 1 in 5 of these youth develops posttraumatic stress symptoms that significantly impair their functioning. Although trauma-focused cognitive behavior therapy (TF-CBT) has a strong evidence base, it is rarely adopted, delivered with adequate fidelity, or evaluated in the most common setting where youth access mental health services-schools. Given that individual behavior change is ultimately required for successful implementation, even when organizational factors are firmly in place, focusing on individual-level processes represents a potentially parsimonious approach. Beliefs and Attitudes for Successful Implementation in Schools (BASIS) is a pragmatic, motivationally focused multifaceted strategy that augments training and consultation and is designed to target precise mechanisms of behavior change to produce enhanced implementation and youth clinical outcomes. Blast-induced traumatic brain injury (bTBI) is a growing health concern due to the increased use of low-cost improvised explosive devices in modern warfare. Mild blast exposures are common amongst military personnel; however, these women and men typically do not have adequate recovery time from their injuries due to the transient nature of behavioral symptoms. bTBI has been linked to heterogeneous neuropathology, including brain edema, neuronal degeneration and cognitive abnormalities depending on the intensity of blast overpressure and frequency. This state has had the largest initial mortality in the United States with more than 479,000 confirmed cases and over 25,000 deaths as of October 10, 2020. All elective surgeries in New York State were suspended on March 23, 2020, due to the national state of emergency. Syosset Hospital is a 75-bed community hospital dedicated primarily to elective surgery. During the COVID-19 surge, the hospital was converted to provide needed beds for the treatment of COVID-19 illness. In anticipation of the resumption of urgent elective procedures, this hospital became one of the two designated sites within the Northwell Health system to be "non-COVID." Once the hospital was emptied of all inpatients, a complete and thorough cleaning and disinfection was performed on the entire building. All equipment was thoroughly decontaminated following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines. In anticipation of the resumption of elective surgery, each surgeon evaluated their cancelled case list to determine patient priority, based on a scale of 1 (elective, non-urgent), 2 (semi-urgent), 3 (urgent), to 4 (highly urgent). Site-specific disaster credentialing was expedited so that emergent surgeries could be performed by surgeons located at other Northwell sites. To ensure a structured and informative onboarding process, each visiting surgeon received a "welcome" email which requested pertinent information to facilitate the surgical process. Presurgical, surgical, and postoperative protocols were revised based on federal and local guidance and regulations. Resumption of elective surgery post COVID-19 placed the hospital into uncharted territory.
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common disorder that affects women during their reproductive age. Previous studies have suggested that PCOS may be linked to some mental disorders.
The study aimed to estimate the perceived stress among adolescents with PCOS and investigate the relationship between PCOS symptoms and perceived stress scale (PSS) in adolescents.
This was a case control study with 72 participants (between 11 and 19 years); 36 adolescents with PCOS and 36 matched controls were recruited from family medicine and gynecological outpatient clinics at Cairo University hospitals. They participated in a structured interview using a pre-designed questionnaire. Full general examination was conducted, including anthropometric measures, acne staging, and hirsutism staging using the Ferriman-Gallwey score. We assessed the severity of stress over the previous month of interview using the 10-item perceived stress scale (PSS-10).
There was a statistically significant difference in PSS scores among aholistic approach that should include stress reduction programs to help adolescents get ready for their adult life.

Differentially expressed genes were analyzed based on LUAD microarray, and the target gene of the target miRNA was predicted. qRT-PCR was used to detect the expression levels of miR-196b-5p and RSPO2 mRNA in normal human bronchial epithelial cell line BEAS-2B and LUAD cell lines A549, NCI-H1792 and NCI-H226. Western blot was used to evaluate protein expression. Cell proliferative, migratory and invasive abilities were detected by CCK-8 and transwell assays. Dual-luciferase assay was conducted to verify the targeting relationship between miR-196b-5p and RSPO2.
The results of qRT-PCR showed that miR-196b-5p was significantly highly expressed in LUAD cells, and the expression level of its downstream target gene RSPO2 was significantly decreased. The primary endpoint of our study was to assess the patient-reported outcomes (PROs) based on BREAST-Q version 2.0 and analyze complications between SIS matrix-assisted implant-based breast reconstruction (IBBR) and no-matrix-assisted IBBR.
This retrospective single-center study was conducted from May 2015 to April 2019, and we analyzed 155 patients who underwent one-stage IBBR with at least 1 year of follow-up. Seventy-nine patients underwent one-stage IBBR with SIS matrix group and 76 patients underwent one-stage IBBR without SIS matrix group were evaluated of PROs with BREAST-Q version 2.0 (from 3 different domains) and compared with complications. Complications occurred in patients were divided into major complications and minor complications.

R software (version 3.6.0) was used to perform the statistical analysis.Results We included 74 patients and 40 controls in the cross-sectional study. Plasma calprotectin levels were higher in uveitis patients compared to those of controls (p = .003), being higher in younger patients and patients with posterior uveitis. No correlation between calprotectin and anterior chamber inflammation degree was found (p = .198). For the prospective study, we included 36 patients. We found no significant differences in calprotectin levels between active and inactive uveitis (p = .344).Conclusions Plasma calprotectin levels are elevated in uveitis patients and are influenced by age and anatomical location of uveitis. Further investigation is needed to assess the relationship between calprotectin and uveitis activity.San Huang Decoction (SHD), a Chinese herb formula, has been popularly prescribed in the clinical treatment of patients suffering from breast cancer. The aim of this study was to explore the anti-angiogenic effects of SHD in breast cancer and explain the underlying mechanism. Transwell and Matrigel assays showed that SHD reduced human umbilical vein endothelial cell migration and tubule formation and ELISA and qRT-PCR assays demonstrated its mediation of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression. siRNA silencing of aurora kinase A (AURKA) produced results similar to those obtained by inhibition of AURKA with SHD. In addition, a chorioallantoic membrane assay was carried out to directly examine the effect of SHD on breast cancer anti-angiogenesis and immunofluorescence and immunohistochemical staining analysis showed that SHD reduced the expression of CD31, AURKA, and VEGF in a xenograft model. Furthermore, SHD regulated extracellular signal-regulated kinase expression in breast cancer cells, which was examined by western blotting. In conclusion, our findings indicated that SHD treatment mimicked the decrease in tumor neovascularization in breast cancer cells after the siRNA-mediated knockdown of AURKA. Thus, SHD may inhibit tumor angiogenesis in breast cancer by targeting AURKA and downregulating the ERK signaling pathway.
Three million African patients need a neurosurgical consultation every year, but there are not enough neurosurgeons to meet this need. Efforts have been made to increase the neurosurgical capacity through the creation of training programs in Africa. Although these programs have been successful, there is still a long way to go. Aspiring African neurosurgeons (AANs) will become neurosurgeons in the future if they are given the resources and opportunities. The authors set out to understand the perceptions, needs, and difficulties faced by AANs.
An e-survey containing 45 questions was created using Google Forms and distributed via social media. The survey was anonymous, and it was distributed from June 2, 2020, to June 16, 2020. Summary descriptive statistics and the Chi-Square test were calculated. The

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has selected six compounds to evaluate their antiproliferative activity in vitro against 60 human cancer cells lines. Preliminary screening of the examined compounds indicated promising anticancer activity against number of cell lines. The enzyme inhibitory activity against VEGFR-2 was evaluated and IC50 of the tested compounds ranged from 0.57 µM to 1.48 µM. The most potent derivatives Vd and Ve were subjected to further investigations. A cell cycle analysis showed that both compounds mainly arrest HCT-116 cell cycle in the G2/M phase. Annexin V-FITC apoptosis assay showed that Vd and Ve induced an approximately 18.7-fold and 21.2-fold total increase in apoptosis compared to the control. Additionally, molecular docking study was performed against VEGFR (PDB ID 4ASD) using MOE 2015.10 software and Sorafenib as a reference ligand.This study examined the association between coffee consumption and all-cause mortality in patients with a prior acute myocardial infarction or unstable angina. Data were from the prospective study ERICO, totalising 928 patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS). During 4 years' follow-up, a total of 111 deaths occurred. Moderate coffee consumption (1-2 and 2-3 cups/day) was inversely associated with total mortality (HR 0.13, 95% CI 0.06-0.29 and 0.22, 95% CI 0.13-0.39, respectively). For patients with higher coffee consumption (>3 cups/day), there was a positive association with mortality (HR 2.12, 95% CI 1.06-4.24). After stratification by smoking status, the analysis revealed lower risk of mortality in never and former smokers, drinking 1-2 and 2-3 cups/day. This work was carried out to elucidate other molecular hepatoprotective mechanisms of GBE via examining the IL-6/STAT3 pathway in addition to the miRNA-21 expression in hepatic tissue. Sprague Dawley rats were allocated into four groups normal control (NC); Ginkgo biloba extract control (GBEC); methotrexate (MTX); and Ginkgo biloba extract and methotrexate (GBE + MTX) group. GBE was administered orally 60 mg/kg/day for 10 days while MTX was intraperitoneally injected with 20 mg/kg on day 5. After the experiment, the serum was separated for liver enzyme determination while liver tissues were collected for biochemical and histopathological examinations. MTX induced marked elevation in the liver enzymes, hepatic IL-6, and HGF mRNA expressions, phospho-STAT3/STAT3 ratio, and miRNA-21 hepatic expression when compared with the NC group.
R software (version 3.6.0) was used to perform the statistical analysis.Results We included 74 patients and 40 controls in the cross-sectional study. Plasma calprotectin levels were higher in uveitis patients compared to those of controls (p = .003), being higher in younger patients and patients with posterior uveitis. No correlation between calprotectin and anterior chamber inflammation degree was found (p = .198). For the prospective study, we included 36 patients. We found no significant differences in calprotectin levels between active and inactive uveitis (p = .344).Conclusions Plasma calprotectin levels are elevated in uveitis patients and are influenced by age and anatomical location of uveitis. Further investigation is needed to assess the relationship between calprotectin and uveitis activity.San Huang Decoction (SHD), a Chinese herb formula, has been popularly prescribed in the clinical treatment of patients suffering from breast cancer. The aim of this study was to explore the anti-angiogenic effects of SHD in breast cancer and explain the underlying mechanism. Transwell and Matrigel assays showed that SHD reduced human umbilical vein endothelial cell migration and tubule formation and ELISA and qRT-PCR assays demonstrated its mediation of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression. siRNA silencing of aurora kinase A (AURKA) produced results similar to those obtained by inhibition of AURKA with SHD. In addition, a chorioallantoic membrane assay was carried out to directly examine the effect of SHD on breast cancer anti-angiogenesis and immunofluorescence and immunohistochemical staining analysis showed that SHD reduced the expression of CD31, AURKA, and VEGF in a xenograft model. Furthermore, SHD regulated extracellular signal-regulated kinase expression in breast cancer cells, which was examined by western blotting. In conclusion, our findings indicated that SHD treatment mimicked the decrease in tumor neovascularization in breast cancer cells after the siRNA-mediated knockdown of AURKA. Thus, SHD may inhibit tumor angiogenesis in breast cancer by targeting AURKA and downregulating the ERK signaling pathway. Aspiring African neurosurgeons (AANs) will become neurosurgeons in the future if they are given the resources and opportunities. The authors set out to understand the perceptions, needs, and difficulties faced by AANs. An e-survey containing 45 questions was created using Google Forms and distributed via social media. The survey was anonymous, and it was distributed from June 2, 2020, to June 16, 2020. Summary descriptive statistics and the Chi-Square test were calculated. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has selected six compounds to evaluate their antiproliferative activity in vitro against 60 human cancer cells lines. Preliminary screening of the examined compounds indicated promising anticancer activity against number of cell lines. The enzyme inhibitory activity against VEGFR-2 was evaluated and IC50 of the tested compounds ranged from 0.57 µM to 1.48 µM. The most potent derivatives Vd and Ve were subjected to further investigations. A cell cycle analysis showed that both compounds mainly arrest HCT-116 cell cycle in the G2/M phase. Annexin V-FITC apoptosis assay showed that Vd and Ve induced an approximately 18.7-fold and 21.2-fold total increase in apoptosis compared to the control. Data were from the prospective study ERICO, totalising 928 patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS). During 4 years' follow-up, a total of 111 deaths occurred. Moderate coffee consumption (1-2 and 2-3 cups/day) was inversely associated with total mortality (HR 0.13, 95% CI 0.06-0.29 and 0.22, 95% CI 0.13-0.39, respectively). For patients with higher coffee consumption (>3 cups/day), there was a positive association with mortality (HR 2.12, 95% CI 1.06-4.24). After stratification by smoking status, the analysis revealed lower risk of mortality in never and former smokers, drinking 1-2 and 2-3 cups/day. Enhanced aerobic glycolysis is a motivation of fibroblast-myofibroblast transdifferentiation (FMT), leading to kidney fibrosis. 3-Bromopyruvate (3-BrPA) is a glycolysis inhibitor and has fibrosis-protected effect in liver. This study aims to explore the effects of 3-BrPA on aerobic glycolysis and kidney fibrosis in a unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) **** model and transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1)-stimulated normal rat kidney fibroblast (NRK49F) cell model in vitro.
In vivo UUO mouse model and in vitro TGF-β1 stimulated cell model were built. Immunohistochemical staining, Western blots, Real-time PCR and fluorescence microscopy were employed to detect extra cellular matrix (ECM) synthesis, fibroblast activation, aerobic glycolysis switch and related signaling pathways.
HE and Masson's Trichrome staining showed that 3-BrPA substantially suppressed kidney injury and interstitial collagen production. 3-BrPA also attenuated ECM accumulation in a dose-dependent manner, as shown by immunohistochemistry staining, RT-PCR and western blot. Furthermore, 3-BrPA inhibited FMT, as indicated by α-SMA and PCNA immunofluorescence double staining. Additionally, the results of MTT assay indicated 3-BrPA prevented TGF-β1 induced fibroblasts proliferation in a time- and dose-dependent manner. Oxidative stress parameters were studied in sciatic nerve. Histopathology study of sciatic nerve, NF-κB and MCP-1 expression were also studied at the end of study.
Paeonol treatment significantly lowered the plasma glucose levels, mechanical allodynia, mechanical hyperalgesia and thermal hyperalgesia as compared to diabetic control group. Paeonol treatment also enhanced the motor and sensory nerve conduction velocity. Paeonol treated diabetic animals showed significant changes in oxidative stress parameters. Histopathology study indicated that paeonol treatment prevented the neuronal damage, lowered demyelination and leukocyte infiltration. It is mainly manifested by the proliferation of cardiac muscle fibroblasts and secreting extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins to replace damaged tissue. However, the excessive production and deposition of extracellular matrix, and the rising proportion of type I and type III collagen lead to pathological fibrotic remodeling, thereby facilitating the development of cardiac dysfunction and eventually causing heart failure with heightened mortality. Currently, the molecular mechanisms of MF are still not fully understood. With the development of epigenetics, it is found that epigenetics controls the transcription of pro-fibrotic genes in MF by DNA methylation, histone modification and noncoding RNAs. In this review, we summarize and discuss the research progress of the mechanisms underlying MF from the perspective of epigenetics, including the newest m6A modification and crosstalk between different epigenetics in MF. This study aimed to investigate whether GYY4137 inhibits the activation of the pyrin domain-containing protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome by inhibiting the PDGFRβ/Akt/NF-κB pathway.
The model of CLP-induced ALI was established in vivo. The **** were subsequently treated with GYY4137 (25μg/g and 50μg/g) to simulate the realistic conditions of pathogenesis. Hydrogen Fluoride (HF) inhalation is one of the industrial accidents. It causes serious damage, although it is quickly recognized. Since hydrofluoric acid leaks are under surveillance by the alarm system, and low concentrations of gas also have a distinctive smell, most accidents occur from exposure in a short period to a large amount of HF. Thus, prolonged exposure to HF is exceedingly rare in a developed country. We report seven cases of chemical pneumonitis due to HF inhalation to share clinical course and prognosis.Severe bronchial asthma is a challenging disorder to treat and can impair quality of life (QOL) under conventional therapeutic modalities. We report the case of a 52-year-old woman with severe asthma associated with eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis (ECRS) and eosinophilic otitis media (EOM). Although the patient was treated with a full dose of inhaled corticosteroid, leukotriene receptor antagonist (LTRA), theophylline, burst use of oral corticosteroids (OCS), her asthmatic condition aggravated, disrupting her daily life. ECRS and EOM symptoms were also getting worse despite treatment with topical application of corticosteroids to the nose and ears, LTRA, and occasional use of OCS. In addition to asthmatic symptom, the patient always suffered from intractable nasal obstruction and hearing disturbance, which contributed to the heavily impaired QOL. However, the administration of benralizumab showed rapid and remarkable improvement not only in her asthmatic conditions but also in the symptoms of ECRS and EOM within a month. These results suggest that the use of benralizumab for the treatment of severe asthma with intractable ECRS and EOM should be considered when the patient's QOL is severely deteriorated.Mycobacterium abscessus is a rapidly growing mycobacterium. It rarely causes disseminated infection or endocarditis. A 55-year-old male with a history of hepatitis C, liver cirrhosis, intravenous drug use (last use was four years ago), and chronic **** pain presented with a three-week history of a right calf nodular lesion. He did not have a fever, chills, rash, dyspnea, or cough. Laboratory data showed mild leukocytosis. Computed tomography of the chest revealed bilateral cavitating nodules. Skin biopsy, sputum, and blood cultures grew Mycobacterium abscessus. Therapy with meropenem, tigecycline, and amikacin was initiated. He was re-admitted with worsening lower **** pain. A lumbar magnetic resonance imaging showed destructive changes of L4 and L5 vertebral bodies concerning for osteomyelitis. Blood culture and bone biopsy grew Mycobacterium abscessus again. An echocardiogram was performed due to persistent bacteremia, which revealed large vegetation on the tricuspid valve and small vegetation on the mitral valve. Therapy was changed to eight weeks of amikacin, with cefoxitin and imipenem for twelve months based on drug susceptibility. Treatment of disseminated Mycobacterium abscessus is challenging due to antibiotic resistance. Typically, multidrug therapy is warranted with at least three active drugs. In severe valvular endocarditis, valve replacement may be required.This is the first published case report of a child with acute lymphatic leukemia developing a fatal mucormycosis during blinatumomab treatment. The patient showed multiple, systemic thromboembolic lesions with ischemia, bleeding and infarction in almost all organs. The child succumbed to increased brain pressure resulting in cerebral herniation. On February 6, 2018, a magnitude-6.2 earthquake on the Richter scale struck Hualien, and that disaster killed 17 people and injured more than 300 people. Our hospital, the only tertiary hospital in eastern Taiwan, responded to a mass casualty incident (MCI) in two hours. Such a devastating earthquake infl uenced the health of the general population and the mental health of hospital staff. Thus, we aimed to analyze the medical problems in earthquake victims, the MCI response's operation, and the prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among healthcare providers.
We reviewed the medical records to investigate the information on the medical requirement of victims. Questionnaires were collected from emergency department staff regarding the operation of the MCI and the effect of regular MCI drills. For a survey of PTSD among healthcare providers, we used the Chinese version of the Davidson Trauma Scale for the psychiatric assessment.
Among the 113 victims who entered the emergency room, almost 90ts, the annual exercises play a signifi cant role. Besides, we can't ignore the mental health condition of healthcare providers after the disaster. We record this tragic earthquake's valuable experience and lessons and share them with others.
Bystander-initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated external defibrillation (AED) is pivotal in the community chain of survival, but little is known regarding the bystander experience of performing CPR and AED, and their psychological infl uence from the incidents in the Asian community. This qualitative study was conducted to explore the experiences of lay rescuers who had performed CPR and AED in public locations in Taiwan.
Lay rescuers who had provided initial CPR and defi brillation with AED in public locations across Taiwan in 2015 were selectively recruited from Taiwan Public AED Registry for a semi-structured interview.
Nine participants were included in the study, and event-to-interview duration was within 1 year (n = 4) and 1-2 years (n = 5). The major fi ndings from the study were (1) the lay rescuers possessed helping traits and high motivation; (2) the lay rescuers reported certain aspects of rescue reality that differed **** from prior training and expectations, including diffi culty in the depth of chest compression, and uncertainties in real emergency situations; (3) the lay rescuers gained positive personal fulfi llment in sharing their experience and receiving positive feedback from others, and were willing to help next time, although they experienced a short-term negative psychological impact from the event.

We report the case of a 52-year-old woman with severe asthma associated with eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis (ECRS) and eosinophilic otitis media (EOM). Although the patient was treated with a full dose of inhaled corticosteroid, leukotriene receptor antagonist (LTRA), theophylline, burst use of oral corticosteroids (OCS), her asthmatic condition aggravated, disrupting her daily life. ECRS and EOM symptoms were also getting worse despite treatment with topical application of corticosteroids to the nose and ears, LTRA, and occasional use of OCS. In addition to asthmatic symptom, the patient always suffered from intractable nasal obstruction and hearing disturbance, which contributed to the heavily impaired QOL. However, the administration of benralizumab showed rapid and remarkable improvement not only in her asthmatic conditions but also in the symptoms of ECRS and EOM within a month. These results suggest that the use of benralizumab for the treatment of severe asthma with intractable ECRS and EOM should be considered when the patient's QOL is severely deteriorated.Mycobacterium abscessus is a rapidly growing mycobacterium. It rarely causes disseminated infection or endocarditis. A 55-year-old male with a history of hepatitis C, liver cirrhosis, intravenous drug use (last use was four years ago), and chronic back pain presented with a three-week history of a right calf nodular lesion. He did not have a fever, chills, rash, dyspnea, or cough. Laboratory data showed mild leukocytosis. Computed tomography of the chest revealed bilateral cavitating nodules. Skin biopsy, sputum, and blood cultures grew Mycobacterium abscessus. Therapy with meropenem, tigecycline, and amikacin was initiated. He was re-admitted with worsening lower back pain. A lumbar magnetic resonance imaging showed destructive changes of L4 and L5 vertebral bodies concerning for osteomyelitis. Blood culture and bone biopsy grew Mycobacterium abscessus again. An echocardiogram was performed due to persistent bacteremia, which revealed large vegetation on the tricuspid valve and small vegetation on the mitral valve. Therapy was changed to eight weeks of amikacin, with cefoxitin and imipenem for twelve months based on drug susceptibility. Treatment of disseminated Mycobacterium abscessus is challenging due to antibiotic resistance. Typically, multidrug therapy is warranted with at least three active drugs. In severe valvular endocarditis, valve replacement may be required.This is the first published case report of a child with acute lymphatic leukemia developing a fatal mucormycosis during blinatumomab treatment. The patient showed multiple, systemic thromboembolic lesions with ischemia, bleeding and infarction in almost all organs. Our hospital, the only tertiary hospital in eastern Taiwan, responded to a mass casualty incident (MCI) in two hours. Such a devastating earthquake infl uenced the health of the general population and the mental health of hospital staff. Thus, we aimed to analyze the medical problems in earthquake victims, the MCI response's operation, and the prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among healthcare providers. We reviewed the medical records to investigate the information on the medical requirement of victims. Questionnaires were collected from emergency department staff regarding the operation of the MCI and the effect of regular MCI drills. For a survey of PTSD among healthcare providers, we used the Chinese version of the Davidson Trauma Scale for the psychiatric assessment. Among the 113 victims who entered the emergency room, almost 90ts, the annual exercises play a signifi cant role. Besides, we can't ignore the mental health condition of healthcare providers after the disaster. We record this tragic earthquake's valuable experience and lessons and share them with others. Bystander-initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated external defibrillation (AED) is pivotal in the community chain of survival, but little is known regarding the bystander experience of performing CPR and AED, and their psychological infl uence from the incidents in the Asian community. This qualitative study was conducted to explore the experiences of lay rescuers who had performed CPR and AED in public locations in Taiwan. Lay rescuers who had provided initial CPR and defi brillation with AED in public locations across Taiwan in 2015 were selectively recruited from Taiwan Public AED Registry for a semi-structured interview. Nine participants were included in the study, and event-to-interview duration was within 1 year (n = 4) and 1-2 years (n = 5). The major fi ndings from the study were (1) the lay rescuers possessed helping traits and high motivation; (2) the lay rescuers reported certain aspects of rescue reality that differed much from prior training and expectations, including diffi culty in the depth of chest compression, and uncertainties in real emergency situations; (3) the lay rescuers gained positive personal fulfi llment in sharing their experience and receiving positive feedback from others, and were willing to help next time, although they experienced a short-term negative psychological impact from the event.0 Comments 0 Shares 15 Views 0 Reviews
