  • The prediction of alcohol consumption in youths and particularly biomarkers of resilience, is critical for early intervention to reduce the risk of subsequent harmful alcohol use.

    At baseline, the longitudinal relaxation rate (R1), indexing grey matter myelination (i.e. myeloarchitecture), was assessed in 86 adolescents/young adults (mean age = 21.76, range 15.75-26.67 years). The Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test (AUDIT) was assessed at baseline, 1- and 2-year follow-ups (12- and 24-months post-baseline). We used a whole brain data-driven approach controlled for age, gender, impulsivity and other substance and behavioural addiction measures, such as problematic cannabis use, drug use-related problems, internet gaming, pornography use, binge eating, and levels of externalization, to predict the change in AUDIT scores from R1.

The psychological effects of these substances outside the period of acute intoxication have not been fully characterized. This study aimed to (1) quantify the effects of psilocybin, ayahuasca, and lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) on psychological outcomes in the post-acute period; (2) test moderators of these effects; and (3) evaluate adverse effects and risk of bias.

    We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of experimental studies (single-group pre-post or randomized controlled trials) that involved administration of psilocybin, ayahuasca, or LSD to clinical or non-clinical samples and assessed psychological outcomes ⩾24 h post-administration. Effects were summarized by study design, timepoint, and outcome domain.

    A total of 34 studies (24 unique samples, n = 549, mean longest follow-up = 55.34 weeks) were included. Classical psychedelics showed significant within-group pre-post and between-group placebo-controlled effects on a range of outcomes including targeted symptoms within psychiatric samples, negative and positive affect-related measures, social outcomes, and existential/spiritual outcomes, with large between-group effect in these domains (Hedges' gs = 0.84 to 1.08). Moderator tests suggest some effects may be larger in clinical samples. Evidence of effects on big five personality traits and mindfulness was weak. There was no evidence of post-acute adverse effects.

    We have often observed dementia symptoms or severe neurocognitive decline in the long-term course of schizophrenia. While there are epidemiological reports that patients with schizophrenia are at an increased risk of developing dementia, there are also neuropathological reports that the prevalence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in schizophrenia is similar to that in normal controls. It is difficult to distinguish, based solely on the clinical symptoms, whether the remarkable dementia symptoms and cognitive decline seen in elderly schizophrenia are due to the course of the disease itself or a concomitant neurocognitive disease. Neuropathological observation is needed for discrimination.

    We conducted a neuropathological search on three cases of schizophrenia that developed cognitive decline or dementia symptoms after a long illness course of schizophrenia. The clinical symptoms of total disease course were confirmed retrospectively in the medical record.     The present study utilizes an epidemiologic cohort of patients (N = 428) ascertained at first-admission for psychosis and followed for a decade thereafter. Symptoms were assessed at 6-, 24-, 48-, and 120-month follow-ups.

    We examined symptom change within-person and found that negative events in the previous 6 months predicted an increase in reality distortion (β = 0.07), disorganized (β = 0.07), manic (β = 0.08), and depressive symptoms (β = 0.06), and a decrease in negative symptoms (β = -0.08). Conversely, positive LEs predicted fewer reality distortion (β = -0.04), disorganized (β = -0.04), and negative (β = -0.13) symptoms, and were unrelated to mood symptoms. A between-person approach to the same hypotheses confirmed that negative LEs predicted change in all symptoms, while positive LEs predicted change only in negative symptoms.

Eradicating H. pylori increases the morbidities of asthma and other allergic diseases. Therefore, H. pylori might play a protective role against asthma. The "disappearing microbiota" hypothesis suggests that the absence of certain types of the ancestral microbiota could change the development of immunology, metabolism, and cognitive ability in our early life, contributing to the development of some diseases. And the Hygiene Hypothesis links early environmental and microbial exposure to the prevalence of atopic allergies and asthma. Exposure to the environment and microbes can influence the growing immune system and protect subsequent immune-mediated diseases. H. pylori can inhibit allergic asthma by regulating the ratio of helper T cells 1/2 (Th1/Th2), Th17/regulatory T cells (Tregs), etc. H. pylori can also target dendritic cells to promote immune tolerance and enhance the protective effect on allergic asthma, and this effect relies on highly suppressed Tregs. The remote regulation of lung immune function by H. pylori is consistent with the gut-lung axis theory. Perhaps, H. pylori also protects against asthma by altering levels of stomach hormones, affecting the autonomic nervous system and lowering the expression of heat shock protein 70. Therapeutic products from H. pylori may be used to prevent and treat asthma. This paper reviews the possible protective influence of H. pylori on allergic asthma and the possible application of H. pylori in treating asthma.
    Endovascular treatment (EVT) is effective against acute cerebral large vessel occlusion (LVO). However, it has been associated with a high incidence of intracranial hemorrhage (ICH). Because the incidence of ICH and prognostic impact of ICH were not scrutinized in general patients, we investigated the impact of ICH after EVT on functional outcome at 90 days in patients with acute LVO.

    RESCUE-Japan Registry 2 was a multicenter registry that enrolled 2,420 consecutive patients with acute LVO within 24 h of onset. We analyzed 1,281 patients who received EVT and compared the functional outcomes between those with and without ICH (ICH and no-ICH groups, respectively) within 24 h after EVT. We explored the factors associated with ICH and prognostic impact of symptomatic ICH (SICH) among patients with ICH. We estimated the adjusted odds ratios (ORs) for good functional outcome as modified Rankin Scale scores 0-2 and mortality. We also explored the prognostic impact of symptomatic ICH (SICH) among patients with Ients who developed ICH after receiving EVT for acute LVO, but the mortality was generally similar.
    The aim of this study is to compare the prognostic impact of 2 precursor lesions of ampullary adenocarcinoma, intra-ampullary papillary-tubular neoplasm (IAPN) and flat dysplasia (FD).

    From December 1994 to December 2012, a total of 359 patients underwent curative surgery for ampullary adenocarcinoma.

    The precursor lesions were IAPNs in 134 (37.3%) patients and FD in the other 225 (62.7%) patients. The FD group had more aggressive tumor biology with advanced T stage (p = 0.002), nodal involvement (p < 0.001), poor differentiation (p < 0.001), perineural and lymphovascular invasion (p < 0.001), and pancreatobiliary or mixed subtype (p < 0.001). Five-year overall survival rates were 71.1% in the IAPN group and 51.4% in the FD group (p = 0.002), respectively. Five-year disease-free survival rates were 69.7% in the IAPN group and 49.6% in the FD group (p < 0.001), respectively.     To establish an automated visual acuity test (AVAT) for infants, based on preferential looking technique and controlled with remote eye tracking. To validate the AVAT in a group of healthy children. To compare AVAT visual acuity (VA) values with corresponding VA values, acquired with standard tests (ST).

    ST, adapted for age (Keeler acuity cards in preverbal children, LEA symbols in verbal children), was performed to obtain monocular VA in a group of 36 healthy children. During AVAT, nine different stimuli with grating circles that matched spatial frequencies of nine Keeler acuity cards (raging between 0.29-14.5 cycles per degree) were projected on a screen. Three repetitions of each stimulus were showed during nine-second intervals, interchanging with an attention grabber. The remote eye tracker was used to evaluate the proportion of time a child spent looking at each grating circle compared to a homogenous grey background that matched the grating stimuli in average luminance. From this proportion of time child's binocular VA was evaluated.

    97 % (35/36) of healthy children successfully completed ST and AVAT. There was an agreement between the results of a ST and AVAT, Lin's concordance coefficient being 0,53 (95% CI= 0,31-0,72).   • Ureteroceles in children are detected with prenatal sonography and less commonly during the evaluation following a urinary tract infection. Rarely do ureteroceles in the pediatric population present with stones, particularly in a bilateral fashion. We present a case of a 5-year-old boy found to have bilateral intravesical single system ureteroceles harboring multiple large calculi treated successfully with a staged endoscopic approach.
    To characterize the clinical presentation, genomic alterations, pathologic phenotype and clinical management of microphthalmia-associated transcription factor (MITF) familial renal cell carcinoma (RCC), caused by a member of the TFE3, TFEB, and MITF family of transcription factor genes.

    The clinical presentation, family history, tumor histopathology, and surgical management were evaluated and reported herein. DNA sequencing was performed on blood DNA, tumor DNA and DNA extracted from adjacent normal kidney tissue. Copy number and gene expression analyses on tumor and normal tissues were performed by Real-Time Polymerase chain reaction. TCGA gene expression data were used for comparative analysis. Protein expression and subcellular localization were evaluated by immunohistochemistry.

    Germline genomic analysis identified the MITF p.E318K variant in a patient with bilateral, multifocal type 1 papillary RCC and a family history of RCC. All tumors displayed the MITF variant and were characterized by amplificbiomarkers for the disease, such as GPNMB expression, that may facilitate the development of targeted therapies for patients affected with MITF-associated RCC.
    To examine the variability of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) in emerging adults with spina bifida (SB) by comparing multiple equations across the transitional age period, hypothesizing that creatinine (Cr)-based equations show greater variability than cystatin-C (CysC)- or combination-based equations.

    Ureteroceles in children are detected with prenatal sonography and less commonly during the evaluation following a urinary tract infection. Rarely do ureteroceles in the pediatric population present with stones, particularly in a bilateral fashion. We present a case of a 5-year-old boy found to have bilateral intravesical single system ureteroceles harboring multiple large calculi treated successfully with a staged endoscopic approach. To characterize the clinical presentation, genomic alterations, pathologic phenotype and clinical management of microphthalmia-associated transcription factor (MITF) familial renal cell carcinoma (RCC), caused by a member of the TFE3, TFEB, and MITF family of transcription factor genes. The clinical presentation, family history, tumor histopathology, and surgical management were evaluated and reported herein. DNA sequencing was performed on blood DNA, tumor DNA and DNA extracted from adjacent normal kidney tissue. Copy number and gene expression analyses on tumor and normal tissues were performed by Real-Time Polymerase chain reaction. TCGA gene expression data were used for comparative analysis. Protein expression and subcellular localization were evaluated by immunohistochemistry. Germline genomic analysis identified the MITF p.E318K variant in a patient with bilateral, multifocal type 1 papillary RCC and a family history of RCC. All tumors displayed the MITF variant and were characterized by amplificbiomarkers for the disease, such as GPNMB expression, that may facilitate the development of targeted therapies for patients affected with MITF-associated RCC.   • To probe into the possible connection between gastroesophageal reflux disorders (GERDs) and functionally occurring dyspepsia as a factor raising the risk of chronic periodontitis.

    A cross-sectional study was carried out on 40 patients with chronic periodontitis with age group between 40-60 years. The test group included 20 people diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), according to the Montreal Definition and Classification agreement, and chronic periodontitis. Symptomatic diagnoses were done to confirm functional dyspepsia. The control group comprised 20 systematically healthy people suffering from chronic periodontitis. Indices measured included flow-rate of saliva, repetitive saliva swallowing test for swallowing function, papillary marginal attachment index of gingiva, oral hygiene index-simplified and decayed, missing, filled teeth index. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 22 (IBM Inc. Chicago, USA). Descriptive statistics, such as mean and standard deviation (SD) for continuous varicidences of chronic periodontitis and was established as an independent risk-raising factor.
    Isfahan Antibiotic Resistance Surveillance System-1 has been instituted in Isfahan, Iran to construct a project for surveillance of clinically significant bacteria, and to help raise a logic regional stewardship program for prevention and control of disseminating-resistant organisms.

    During March 2016 to March 2018, an antibiotic resistance surveillance system was designed and implemented by Isfahan Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine Research Center. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/Sapogenins-glycosides.html The surveillance program was implemented in three general hospitals in Isfahan. In addition to the routine microbiology data, clinical data (differentiation between true infections and contamination, healthcare-associated infections (HCAI) and community-acquired infections (CAI), as well as determination of the infection site) were obtained and analyzed by WHONET software.

    During a 2-year period, from 7056 samples that revealed growth of bacteria, 3632 (51.5%) isolates were detected as contamination and 3424 (48.5%) true bacterial isolates were identified. Of these, about 32% of isolates were recognized as HCAI. Totally, the most recognized infections were urinary tract infection, bloodstream infection and skin and soft tissue infections. In patients with HCAIs, 70% of isolates were gram negative and in patients with CAIs 73% isolates were gram negative bacteria.

    The strength of the project is gathering enough clinical information in addition to microbiologic data, which would increase application of the results for empiric treatment and prevention of the infectious diseases in clinical settings.

All these metabolic processes are mediated via two adiponectin receptors, AdipoR1 and AdipoR2. In addition, adiponectin is one of the hormones with the highest plasma concentrations. Weight loss or caloric restriction leads to increasing adiponectin levels, and this increase is associated with increased insulin sensitivity. Therefore, the adiponectin pathway can play a crucial role in the development of drugs to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus and other obesity-related diseases affected by insulin resistance like cancers or cardiovascular diseases. Adiponectin appears to increase insulin sensitivity by improving glucose and lipid metabolisms. The objective of this review is to analyze current knowledge concerning adiponectin and, in particular, its role in physiology and pathophysiology.Gynecological cancers are one of the most lethal and deadliest cancers in the world. In India, the prevalence of ovarian cancer accounts for 2.5% to 3%. Despite the availability of improved treatment option along with improved technology, the survival rate of ovarian cancer in the early-stage and the advanced stage is poor. Therefore, due to the heterogeneity of ovarian cancer, to detect it at an early stage and to prevent further mortality turns out to be a big challenge. Researchers are still in the process to identify any single biomarker with good sensitivity and specificity. Various traditional and serum approaches to identify ovarian cancer have been successful in the early stages. The invention of molecular biomarkers such as the use of genomic profiling, DNA methylation, and other approaches have proven to be of higher sensitivity and specificity, which overall affects the prognosis of ovarian cancer. With the use of whole-genome analysis, the detection of possible location of critical tumor suppressor gene (TSGs) in the paired region of chromosomes has been identified, which are associated with BRCA1 and BRCA2 which further makes these novel molecular biomarkers as potential biomarkers. Moreover, studies are required to assess the combined use of traditional, molecular biomarkers that might be useful for enhanced sensitivity and specificity for early detection and prevention of ovarian cancer in early stages which will lead to reduced mortality and good prognosis.
    There is limited information about the relationship between extraversion, as a personality trait, and the modes of tobacco smoking. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between extraversion and cigarette and water-pipe smoking among a representative sample of Iranian high school students.

    A sample of 2,312 tenth-grade students in Tabriz (Northwest of Iran) was selected through multistage proportional cluster sampling. Participants completed a self-administered questionnaire including information on cigarette smoking, water-pipe smoking, extraversion, socioeconomical information, as well as demographic characteristics. An ordinal logistic regression model was used for data analysis.

    In total, 4.2% and 3.5% of the students were regular cigarette and water-pipe smokers, respectively. The adjusted odds ratios were 1.10 (95% CI 1.04-1.15,
    < 0.001) and 1.10 (95% CI 1.06-1.15,

  • To assess the input of maternal and neonatal body physique anthropometries to birth outcomes.

    A prospective study of 177 full-term births at Alex Ekwueme Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki from July to December, 2019. Maternal and neonatal anthropometric parameters and birth outcomes mode of delivery and Apgar score were considered in this study. The measurements followed the guidelines outlined by the Institute of Medicine.

    The prevalence of low birth weight (6.21%), cesarean delivery (14.12%), and abnormal Apgar score (9.04%) was relatively low in the study. Birth weight was dependent on maternal age, weight, body mass index, percentage body fat, and waist and hip circumference (P<0.05). Normal Apgar score at 1min after birth of male neonates was dependent on maternal BMI and neonatal head circumference whereas abnormal Apgar score in male and female neonates was dependent on maternal age and waisthip ratio, respectively (P<0.05).

    Maternal and neonatal body physique anthropometries can be used to identify mothers and neonates at risk of having birth complications. This provided a practical alternative means to know the possible risk of undesirable birth outcomes with spontaneous vaginal delivery in low-risk pregnancies.

The aim of this systematic review was to summarize the efficacy and safety of the various treatment options for chronic hepatitis E. We performed a systematic literature search. The primary outcome measure was a sustained virological response (SVR). Secondary end points were rapid virological response (RVR), relapse rates, side effects and adverse events. Forty-four articles were included with a total of 582 patients. Reduction of immunosuppressive medication induced viral clearance in 55/174 (32%) of the patients. Meta-analysis of 395 patients showed a pooled SVR rate of 78% (95-CI 72%-84%) after ribavirin treatment. Twenty-five per cent of the patients obtained a RVR, whereas a relapse occurred in 18% of the patients. Anaemia during treatment led to dose reduction, use of erythropoietin and/or blood transfusion in 37% of the patients. A second treatment attempt with ribavirin led to a SVR in 39/51 (76%) of the patients. Pegylated interferon-alpha was administered to 13 patients and SVR was obtained in 85%. Two patients (15%) suffered from acute transplant rejection during treatment with interferon. In conclusion, reduction of immunosuppressive medication and treatment with ribavirin is safe, generally well tolerated and induced viral clearance in 32% and 78% of patients, respectively. Therefore, ribavirin should be considered as first treatment step for chronic hepatitis E. Treatment with pegylated interferon-alpha increases the risk of transplant rejection and should therefore be administered with great caution.
    The UNOS-MELD score is the basis of liver allocation in the Eurotransplant region. It was constructed 20 years ago in a small US cohort and has remained unchanged ever since. The best boundaries and coefficients were never calculated for any region outside the US. Therefore, this study refits MELD (reMELD) for the Eurotransplant region.

    All adult patients listed for a first LT between 01.01.2007-31.12.2018 were included. Data was randomly split in a training (70%) and validation (30%) set. In the training data, generalized additive models (GAMs) with splines were plotted for each MELD parameter. The lower and upper bound combinations with the maximum log-likelihood were chosen for the final models. The refit models were tested in the validation data with c-indices and Brier scores. Through likelihood ratio tests the refit models were compared to UNOS-MELD. The correlation between scores and survival of prioritized patients was calculated.

The aim of this systematic review was to summarize the efficacy and safety of the various treatment options for chronic hepatitis E. We performed a systematic literature search. The primary outcome measure was a sustained virological response (SVR). Secondary end points were rapid virological response (RVR), relapse rates, side effects and adverse events. Forty-four articles were included with a total of 582 patients. Reduction of immunosuppressive medication induced viral clearance in 55/174 (32%) of the patients. Meta-analysis of 395 patients showed a pooled SVR rate of 78% (95-CI 72%-84%) after ribavirin treatment. Twenty-five per cent of the patients obtained a RVR, whereas a relapse occurred in 18% of the patients. Anaemia during treatment led to dose reduction, use of erythropoietin and/or blood transfusion in 37% of the patients. A second treatment attempt with ribavirin led to a SVR in 39/51 (76%) of the patients. Pegylated interferon-alpha was administered to 13 patients and SVR was obtained in 85%.   • We established a mouse model of rapidly progressive fatal haemorrhagic pneumonia caused by S. maltophilia that is useful for determining the therapeutic effect of various agents. We believe that this model will prove useful to further elucidate the mechanisms underlying haemorrhagic pneumonia as well as in the design and development of novel therapeutic modalities and targets.

Notwithstanding the infection prevention measures introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic and changes in the hospitalised population, attention to CP-Kp infections must remain high, especially in the critically ill setting.

However, synergistic interactions between CAS and VPL under planktonic and biofilm conditions were observed in 19 and 23 strains, respectively. Additionally, 8000 μg/mL ASP or 8 μg/mL VPL combined with CAS had better inhibitory effects on C. albicans.

Research has found that sport participation generally provides youth with a protective milieu that is especially beneficial for the most disadvantaged youth. Accordingly, the current study examines whether sport participation is related to positive psychosocial outcomes for resettled adolescent refugees, and if these effects are greater for those living in socioeconomically disadvantaged communities.

    Data were from a large, nationally representative cohort of refugees recently resettled in Australia (Building New Life in Australia study, BNLA). Self-reported social and emotional well-being was collected from 415 youth who entered the country as refugees (M
    =14.04, SD=1.99) at three years post settlement were used.

    A moderated regression analysis indicated that refugee youth living in socioeconomically disadvantaged neighborhoods who participated in sports reported significantly better outcd the current study indicates that sport participation could contribute to these efforts among resettled refugee populations.
    Valid causal inferences are necessary to use developmental research to improve adolescent outcomes. What type of change should be analyzed to approximate causal inferences from longitudinal data? Difference-score and ANCOVA-type analyses often produce contradictory results, a problem known as Lord's paradox. This study investigates 2-group, 2-wave difference-score analyses and ANCOVA, and introduces a method that produces consistent results, namely dual-centered ANCOVA, which is compared to pretest matching.

    These methods are tested first on two datasets simulated to fit each of Lord's contrasting results. The methods are then applied to data investigating the longitudinal associations of parent-adolescent discussions about sexual risks on subsequent unprotected sexual behaviors in 4753 American adolescents (62.2% whites).

    The results replicate Lord's contradictory results for all datasets. Dual-centered ANCOVA and pretest matching both produce consistent results, but dual-centered ANCOVA replicates theype analyses, dual-centered ANCOVA estimates the difference-score effect while retaining the advantages of ANCOVA in statistical power and covariate inclusion. These findings are widely applicable to longitudinal analyses that incorporate one or both of these basic methods to analyze change.There are an increasing number of cardiac electronic device implants and generator changes with a longer patient life expectancy along with concomitant increase in antiplatelet and anticoagulant regimens, which can increase the incidence of pocket hematomas. We have analyzed studies on periprocedural medication management, intraprocedural use of prohemostatic agents, and postprocedure role of compression devices.

  • Perilunate injuries are rare and quite often missed. We present our experience and outcomes, surgically managing these difficult injuries.

    We analysed data from 14 patients who underwent open reduction and internal fixation of perilunate injuries. All patients underwent open reduction and fixation through the dorsal approach. Fractures were fixed with either K-wires or Headless compression screws. At regular intervals radiographs, range of motion, grip strength, modified Mayo score, Quick DASH score and Lyon wrist scores were collected.

    The average age of our patients was 29.2. Average time to surgical intervention was 11.3days. The mean follow-up period was 42.3months. modified Mayo wrist score, QuickDASH score and Lyon wrist scores were 77.86, 1.62 and 80.86, respectively. Wrist flexion/extension arc was 101.43. Wrist radial/ulnar deviation was 50.0. Mean grip strength was 69.93% of the opposite side. Radiological evidence of wrist arthritis and lunate avascular necrosis was seen in 8 (57.14%) and 4 (28.6%) cases, respectively.

    Complex elbow fractures are common injuries in young adults. Results in recent studies with various operative treatment protocols are equivocal. We compared the results of radial head arthroplasty, excision with osteosynthesis in such injuries at two follow-ups 1year apart.

    Thirty-five patients of complex elbow fracture-dislocations including, posterior/anterior olecranon dislocation of elbow, terrible triad injury, anteromedial facet of coronoid fracture, Type IV Monteggia fracture-dislocation and unclassified elbow dislocation were enrolled. They were managed operatively by standardized protocol similar to McKee et al. radial head reconstruction with miniplates, lag screws or non-operative treatment for undisplaced fractures. Arthroplasty of radial head with cemented prosthesis + LCL repair with suture anchor/transosseous tunnel was done. Coronoid and olecranon fixation was always performed. Patients were evaluated as follows Q-DASH score, MEPI, pain according to VAS, range of motion, complications and t-related outcomes as compared to arthroplasty, although not statistically significant. Radial head excision though has acceptable outcomes but there is a restriction of movements especially flexion-extension. Acceptable rate of complications major or minor warrants need of secondary surgical procedures or a staged treatment.

Some studies compared the results of radial head fixation to replacement in isolated radial head fractures, very few reports have tried to compare both treatment modalities in the setting of a terrible triad injury.The aim of this study was to compare the functional outcome of radial head fixation vs replacement in terrible triad injuries of the elbow.

    A single-center, prospective cohort study was conducted at an academic Level 1 Trauma Center from April 2016 to April 2019.A total of 30 patients with terrible triad injury of the elbow were enrolled. The primary outcome was the Quick Disability of Arm, Shoulder and Hand (Quick-DASH) at 1year. The secondary outcomes were to report the Mayo Elbow Performance Score (MEPS)at 1 year and elbow range of motion.

    At final follow up for each patient (13.4 ± 1.2months) The Quick-DASH score at 1year for fixation group was 5 ± 2.3, for the replacement group it was 7.1 ± 7.1. The MEPS at 1year for fixation group was 93.6 ± 8.4, for the replacement group it was 90.9 ± 9.4.Loss of elbow extension at 1year for fixation group was 17.1° ± 10.7°, for replacement group it was 18.75° ± 11.5°.

    A systematic approach to address the bony and soft tissue components of terrible triad elbow injury is crucial to obtain satisfactory outcome. Our study shows that radial head repair andreplacement, in the setting of terrible triad injury,yields comparable results.

    The Trochanteric Fixation Nail-Advanced (TFN-A) is offered as a "next-generation" solution to the ever-increasing incidence of pertrochanteric and intertrochanteric fractures. It aims to build upon the success of earlier-generation proximal femur implants, while at the same time attempting to address complications, like varus collapse, cut-out, implant failure and anterior cortical perforation/impingement. It also aims to provide the surgeon with flexibility by offering varied options under a single implant system.

    This descriptive study looked at the early outcomes of the TFN-A as used in a single trauma centre. It attempts to shed light on the question of whether the TFN-A is at least equivalent to more established proximal femur implants in terms of fixation while reducing complication rates.

This disease is endemic all over the world generating significant economic losses, especially in dairy herds, although, MAP is the cause of infection in many other species including primates. Currently, MAP mycobacteria are recognized as pathogens transmitted by food. They are a potential threat to animal and human health. Infected animals excreting mycobacteria with faeces are the main source of MAP. The development of control strategies and disease control are based on determination of the genetic diversity of the MAP strains causing Johne's disease. This study describes 43 strains isolated from a herd of dairy cows located in northern Poland. The types of MAP were determinted based on the polymorphism analysis of two insertion fragments IS900 and IS1311. The polymorphism of IS900 was analyzed with the use of a PCR multiplex according to Collins' method and the IS1311 polymorphism with the use of the PCR-REA method. Based on the differences observed, the strains isolated were classified into two MAP types, cattle (C-type) and sheep (S-type), with the predominance of the cattle type.The purpose of the study was to obtain values of acid-base balance and basic biochemical parameters in neonatal kids of the White Shorthaired goat depending on colostrum intake. The research was focused on changes in acid-base balance parameters and basic biochemical parameters in neonatal kids before and two hours after colostrum intake. Total of 66 blood samples were taken from 33 neonatal kids. Blood pH, partial pressure of carbon dioxide (pCO2), partial pressure of oxygen (pO2), bicarbonate concentration (cHCO3 -), base excess (BE), oxygen saturation (cSO2), total carbon dioxide (TCO2), sodium (Na+), potassium (K+), calcium (Ca2+), chloride (Cl-), glucose (Glu), lactate (Lac), creatinine (Crea), hematocrit (Hct) and haemoglobin (Hgb) were measured. There were no statistically significant differences in acid-base balance parameters such as pO2, pCO2, TCO2, cSO2 and biochemical parameters such as Na+, K+, Ca2+, lactate between the two groups - before colostrum intake (group BF) and after colostrum intake (group AF). Data showed a significant positive effect of PRPI on the chance to become pregnant in mares affected by Kenney I-II CDE. The overall 14 days PO pregnancy rate was 75%. Sixty-nine % of the overall pregnancies was achieved with the 1st PRPI, but an additional 31% was obtained with the 2nd PRPI at the subsequent heat, increasing significantly the number of pregnancies. Although the 1st PRPI lead to a higher pregnancy rate than the 2nd PRPI (52 vs 23%), the repetition of the treatment had a significant positive effect on the overall pregnancies.
