  • We describe an uncommon cardiac presentation of polyarteritis nodosa. A 68-year-old woman, with a history of fatigue, weight loss, and myalgia of the lower extremities, was admitted for congestive heart failure. Coronary arteries were normal. Endomyocardial biopsy showed active lymphocytic myocarditis with associated intramural small vessels necrotizing vasculitis. The overexpression of TLR-4 and the negativity for myocardial viruses suggested an immune mediated mechanism of cardiac damage. These histologic findings associated to weight loss >4 kg not due to dieting or other factors, myalgias, and polyneuropathy, were consistent with the diagnosis of polyarteritis nodosa. Immunosuppressive treatment, consisting of cyclophosphamide and prednisolone, led to a significant improvement of cardiac function. Polyarteritis nodosa can be the cause of unexplained heart failure due to myocarditis and intramural vessels vasculitis. Its recognition is crucial to obtain a cardiac recovery with a tailored immunosuppressive treatment.
    People living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH) have an excess risk for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) compared to the general U.S. population, but little is known about HIV-specific risk factors associated with the incidence and outcomes HNSCC. We aim to identify clinical and HIV-specific risk factors associated with oropharyngeal and non-oropharyngeal HNSCC incidence and outcomes separately.

    We constructed a retrospective cohort study of 45,052 PLWH aged 18 or above from the national Veteran Affairs (VA) Corporate Data from 1999 to 2015. We extracted demographic data and risk factor information, including history of alcohol abuse, smoking, CD4 count (cells/μl), and percent of follow-up time with undetectable HIV viral load as time-updated variables. We calculated the age-standardized incidence rates of oropharyngeal and non-oropharyngeal HNSCC and estimated adjusted hazard ratios (HR). We also examined overall survival using Kaplan-Meier curves and adjusted HR.

    The standardized incidence rate of oropharyngeal and non-oropharyngeal HNSCC in this veteran cohort of PLWH is 23.0 (95% confidence intervals (CIs) 17.1-28.9) and 55.4 (95% CI 46.5-64.3) per 100,000 person-years, respectively. Nadir CD4 count ≤200 was associated with an increased risk of non-oropharyngeal HNSCC (HR 1.78; 95% CI 1.31-2.30 vs >200). Five-year overall survival of OPSCC (37.0%) was significantly lower than non-oropharyngeal HNSCC (49.1%).

While heterozygous knockout of CDC20 did not induce SAC failure, knock-in of the mutant CDC20 induced SAC failure and random aneuploidy in cultured cells, indicating that the particular missense mutation is pathogenic probably via the resultant imbalance between ****and APC/C-CDC20 complex.     Many critically ill children can be fed orally at some point during their paediatric intensive care (PICU) stay, but reduced appetite and other factors may impact their intake. At home, oral feeding is usually delivered by parents, so involving parents more actively during mealtimes in the PICU may contribute to improved patient/family satisfaction. We aimed to assess the impact of a new "room service" initiative involving parents on mealtime quality and on both family and health care professional (HCP) satisfaction.

    A prospective, single-centre, before-and-after intervention study was designed as part of a PICU quality-of-care improvement programme in 2013 to 2016. Two questionnaires assessing oral nutrition practices and family/HCP overall satisfaction were disseminated among the parents of critically ill children capable of oral feeding during their PICU admission and among the whole PICU HCP team (nurses, nurse assistants, and medical doctors). Categorical variables were compared using the chi-square test, and Likert scales were compared between groups with the Mann-Whitney-Wilcoxon test.

The current study examines the broadest known set of health sequelae related to traditional pubertal markers and peer-relative pubertal timing in a representative sample of 14,545 U.S. youth from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent to Adult Health. Maturational timing was assessed by age at menarche for girls and physical development for boys (e.g., facial hair, voice change), and then categorized as early (1 SD below mean), on-time, or late (1 SD above mean) within-sex. Early and late peer-relative timing was assessed by a self-report of looking "**** older" or "**** younger" than one's peers. We examined psychological (depressive symptoms, antisocial behavior), behavioral (number of sex partners, drug use, physical activity, screen time, sleep hours), and physical health (self-reported health, BMI) outcomes during adolescence and young adulthood in a series of sex-stratified regression analyses using survey weights and a comprehensive set of sociodemographic covariates. Results indicated that, overall, earlier pubertal timing (i.e., maturational timing and peer-relative timing) put both girls and boys at risk during adolescence, while later timing was protective. However, longitudinal models revealed mixed results. For instance, early maturational timing was associated with higher young adult BMI (girls β = 0.139, p  less then  .01; boys β = 0.107, p  less then  .01), but later timing for boys was associated with both risky (e.g., more screen time; β = 0.125, p  less then  .05) and health promoting (e.g., more sleep; β = .296, p  less then  .01) behaviors. The present study will review the clinicopathologic features of a cohort of patients with EC and BM. We conducted a multi-center retrospective review of patients with EC and BM. Demographic and clinical information was extracted from the medical records. Survival outcomes were determined using Kaplan-Meier Curves. Final analysis included 10 patients. The median age was 65 years (range 31-71). 80% had FIGO stage III/IV disease. The most common site of BM was the spine (66%). All patients presented with extraosseous dissemination at the time of diagnosis of BM and 70% were found to have multiple sites of BM. 80% of patients were diagnosed with BM in the recurrent setting. The median time to diagnosis of bone recurrence was 14 months (range 0-44). Median survival after diagnosis of BM was 11 months (range 1-22 months). Patients with endometrioid histology and single site of bone metastasis experienced improved survival (p = 0.04 and p = 0.05, respectively). Eight patients had immunohistochemistry or molecular tumor profiles available for review. Results Ninety-six patients met inclusion criteria; the median age was 64.5. Seventy patients were treated with combination therapy and 26 with chemotherapy alone. For the entire group, median overall survival (OS) was significantly different between groups (22.3 months surgery versus 9.8 months chemotherapy only, p = 0.0002). After multivariable analysis, having carcinosarcoma (HR 3.84 95% CI 2.64-5.03, p = 0.03), having grade 3 disease (HR 4.95 95% CI 3.70-6.18, p = 0.01), and having chemotherapy only (HR 4.13 95% CI 3.23-5.02, p = 0.002) were associated with increased mortality. When analysis was restricted to just patients who had a suboptimal debulking or chemotherapy alone, median OS was equivalent similar at 9.4 and 9.8 months (p = 0.46). Hemolysis of specimens submitted for lactate dehydrogenase (LD) represented the most common interference for body fluid chemistries. Body fluids collected from postsurgical drain sites had a higher proportion of tests exceeding both icterus and lipemic limits compared to serum/plasma specimens. Conclusions Overall, degrees of hemolysis, icterus, and lipemia observed in body fluid specimens were in large part similar to serum/plasma specimens, with a few notable differences. Body fluids exhibited a higher proportion of samples with severe icterus or lipemia.

Two levels of vaccine efficacy (70% and 98%) and two levels of vaccine duration of protection (1 and 20 years) were considered. The willingness to pay estimates were obtained using a double-bounded dichotomous-choice contingent valuation format. Survey results show that a very large proportion of individuals (at least 97%) were willing to accept a COVID-19 vaccine, and at least 85% of individuals were willing to pay a positive amount for that vaccine.     Five hundred and seventeen HBsAg-positive subjects aged 1-29years surveyed in the 2014 national HBV sero-survey in the mainland of China were enrolled in the study. The full-length HBV genome was obtained by PCR amplification and sequencing. The HBV genotype was determined by phylogenetic analysis. Combined with questionnaire information, HBV genotype distribution was analyzed.

    Of the 517 HBsAg-positive subjects, 369 (71.4%) were included in the analysis. HBV genotypes found were B (45.0%), C (36.6%), D (6.0%), C/D (9.8%), B/C (2.2%), and I (0.5%). Geographic differences in HBV genotype were significant for seven regions. Three serotypes were found adw (47.2%), adr (35.5%), and ayw (17.3%). B2 (43.9%) and C2 (25.2%) were the two major subgenotypes. The predominant genotypes differed between the Han group and the other ethnic groups. No stthe preventive policies in the future.
    Trillions of dollars pass to physicians from industry-related businesses annually, leading to many opportunities for financial conflicts of interest. The Open Payments Database (OPD) was created to ensure transparency. We describe the industry relationships as reported in the OPD for presenters at the 2019 Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) Annual Meeting and evaluate concordance between author disclosures of their financial interests and information provided by the OPD.

    This is an observational, cross-sectional study. Disclosure data were collected from authors with oral and featured abstract presentations in the 2019 SGO annual conference. These disclosures were compared to data available for each author in the 2018 OPD, which included the amount and nature of industry payments.

    We examined the disclosures of 301 authors who met inclusion criteria. Of 161 authors who had disclosure statements on their presentations,147 reported "no disclosures," and 14 disclosed industry relationships. The remaining 140 did not list any disclosure information. Sixty percent (184/301) of authors had industry relationships in the 2018 OPD, including 173 of 287 (60.3%) of authors who either reported no disclosures or did not have disclosure data available in their presentations. These transactions totaled over 43 million USD from 122 different companies, with most payments (46%) categorized as "Research or Associated Research." Accurate disclosure reporting was associated with receiving higher payments or research payments, and being a presenting author.

    To determine the mechanical and surface characteristics of two novel biomimetic interpenetrating phase alumina-polycarbonate (Al O -PC) composite materials, comprising aligned honeycomb-like porous ceramic preforms infiltrated with polycarbonate polymer. Two composite materials were produced and characterised. Each comprised a porous structure with a ceramic-rich (polymer-poor) top layer, graduated through to a more porous ceramic-poor (polymer-rich) bottom layer.   • Invasive fungal disease (IFD) is frequent in patients with haematologic malignancies and in recipients of haematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT). An epidemiologic study conducted in Brazil reported a high incidence of IFD in haematologic patients, and invasive fusariosis was the leading IFD. A limitation of that study was that galactomannan was not available for at least half of the study period. In order to characterise the epidemiology and burden of IFD in three cohorts, HCT, acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) or myelodysplasia (MDS), and acute lymphoid leukaemia (ALL), we conducted a prospective multicentre cohort study in four haematologic Brazilian centres. From August 2015 to July 2016, all patients receiving induction chemotherapy for newly diagnosed or relapsed AML, MDS or ALL, and all HCT recipients receiving conditioning regimen were followed during the period of neutropenia following chemotherapy or the conditioning regimen. During a 1-year period, 192 patients were enrolled 122 HCT recipients (71 allogeneic, 51 autologous), 46 with AML, and 24 with ALL. The global incidence of IFD was 13.0% (25 cases, 11 proven and 14 probable). Invasive aspergillosis (14 cases) was the leading IFD, followed by candidemia (6 cases) and fusariosis (3 cases). The incidence of IFD was 26.1% in AML/MDS, 16.7% in ALL, 11.3% in allogeneic HCT, and 2.0% in autologous HCT. The burden of IFD in haematologic patients in Brazil is high, with a higher frequency in AML and ALL. Invasive aspergillosis is the leading IFD, followed by invasive candidiasis and fusariosis.
    Although the widespread use of modern antiretroviral therapy (ART) has reduced the incidence of talaromycosis in people living with HIV, mortality remains as high as 20% in this population, even after appropriate antifungal treatment.

    The objective of our study was to develop a risk assessment system for HIV-infected patients with comorbid talaromycosis, in order to provide these patients with appropriate, effective and potentially life-saving interventions at an early stage of their illness.

    This was a multicentre, retrospective cohort study conducted in China. We built a predictive model based on data from 11 hospitals, and a validated model using the data of 1 hospital located in an endemic area.

    Forward stepwise multivariate statistical calculations indicated that age, aspartate aminotransferase/alanine transaminase ratio and albumin levels, and BUN levels were valid, independent predictors of the risk of death in HIV-infected patients with talaromycosis. Our developed and validated risk scoring system is effective for the identification of HIV-infected patients with talaromycosis at high risk of death at hospital admission (p<.001; AUC=0.860). In our study, our risk prediction model provided functional and robust discrimination in the validation cohort (p<.001; AUC=0.793).

In the cosmetic industry, we need to understand what consumers are perceiving in a tactile sense when touching their own facial skin. The purpose of this study was to investigate these observation methods in order to systematically understand people's haptic exploratory procedures (HEPs).

    Thirty-four participants living in the United States and twenty-two participants living in Japan freely explored their faces and answered which side felt more closely related to the six tactile adjectives. A new analysis was applied to classify the observed HEPs into six classifications within two categories and three sizes of contact area by experts.

    An observational descriptive study was conducted among critical care units' nurses. The measuring instrument was the Collaborative International Donor Project in Organ Donation and Transplantation. Data were collected from January to October 2019, and a statistical analysis was performed.

    A total of n=313 questionnaires achieved a response rate of 51%. Of the intensive care unit nurses surveyed, 85% had a favourable opinion towards the donation of their organs being affected by psychosocial variables related to social variables with respect to family, religion and attitude towards the body.

  • OBJECTIVE To compare the microbicidal activity of low-temperature sterilization technologies (vaporized hydrogen peroxide [VHP], ethylene oxide [ETO], and hydrogen peroxide gas plasma [HPGP]) to steam sterilization in the presence of salt and serum to simulate inadequate precleaning. METHODS Test carriers were inoculated with Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus, Mycobacterium terrae, Bacillus atrophaeus spores, Geobacillus stearothermophilus spores, or Clostridiodes difficile spores in the presence of salt and serum and then subjected to 4 sterilization technologies steam, ETO, VHP and HPGP. RESULTS Steam, ETO, and HPGP sterilization techniques were capable of inactivating the test organisms on stainless steel carriers with a failure rate of 0% (0 of 220), 1.9% (6 of 310), and 1.9% (5 of 270), respectively. The failure rate for VHP was 76.3% (206 of 270). CONCLUSION Steam sterilization is the most effective and had the largest margin of safety, followed by ETO and HPGP, but VHP showed **** less efficacy.OBJECTIVE This study aimed to explore the 10-year trajectories of neurocognitive domains after moderate-severe traumatic brain injury (TBI), to identify factors related to long-term neurocognitive functioning, and to investigate whether performance remained stable or changed over time. METHOD Seventy-nine patients with moderate-severe TBI between the ages of 16 and 55 years were assessed at 3 months, 1, 5, and 10 years postinjury using neuropsychological tests and functional outcomes. Three hierarchical linear models were used to investigate the relationships of domain-specific neurocognitive trajectories (Memory, Executive function, and Reasoning) with injury severity, demographics, functional outcome at 3 months (Glasgow Outcome Scale-Extended) and emotional distress at 1 year (Symptom Checklist 90-Revised). RESULTS Education, injury severity measures, functional outcome, and emotional distress were significantly associated with both Memory and Executive function. Education and emotional distress were related to Reasoning. The interaction effects between time and these predictors in predicting neurocognitive trajectories were nonsignificant. Among patients with data at 1 and 10 year follow-ups (n = 47), 94-96% exhibited stable scores on Executive function and Reasoning tasks, and 83% demonstrated stable scores on Memory tasks. Significant memory decline was presented in 11% of patients. CONCLUSIONS The findings highlight the differential contribution of variables in their relationships with long-term neurocognitive functioning after moderate-severe TBI. We used two-way factorial ANOVA to analyse the interaction between age groups (15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49 years) and study population (female soccer players vs. norm sample) in their effects on neurocognitive performance. RESULTS We found no significant interaction effect of age group and study population in five of six test domains. For processing speed, the effect of age was more pronounced in female soccer players (F = 16.89, p = .002). Further, there was a clear main effect of study population on neurocognitive performance with generally better scores in soccer players. CONCLUSIONS Elite female soccer players generally performed better than the norm sample on tests of cognitive function, and further, cognitive ageing effects were similar in elite soccer players and controls in all but one domain. We derived empirical dietary patterns in 1142 children (average age 6.0 (0.2) years) in Auckland, New Zealand whose mothers had participated in the Screening for Pregnancy Endpoints (SCOPE) cohort study and explored associations with measures of body composition. Participants (Children of SCOPE) had their diet assessed by food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) and empirical dietary patterns were extracted using factor analysis. Three distinct dietary patterns were identified; 'Healthy', 'Traditional' and 'Junk'. Associations between dietary patterns and measures of childhood body composition (waist, hip, arm circumferences, body mass index (BMI), bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) derived body fat percentage, and sum of skinfold thicknesses (SST)) were assessed by linear regression, with adjustment for maternal influences.     OBJECTIVE To compare the microbicidal activity of low-temperature sterilization technologies (vaporized hydrogen peroxide [VHP], ethylene oxide [ETO], and hydrogen peroxide gas plasma [HPGP]) to steam sterilization in the presence of salt and serum to simulate inadequate precleaning. METHODS Test carriers were inoculated with Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus, Mycobacterium terrae, Bacillus atrophaeus spores, Geobacillus stearothermophilus spores, or Clostridiodes difficile spores in the presence of salt and serum and then subjected to 4 sterilization technologies steam, ETO, VHP and HPGP. RESULTS Steam, ETO, and HPGP sterilization techniques were capable of inactivating the test organisms on stainless steel carriers with a failure rate of 0% (0 of 220), 1.9% (6 of 310), and 1.9% (5 of 270), respectively. The failure rate for VHP was 76.3% (206 of 270). CONCLUSION Steam sterilization is the most effective and had the largest margin of safety, followed by ETO and HPGP, but VHP showed much less efficacy.OBJECTIVE This study aimed to explore the 10-year trajectories of neurocognitive domains after moderate-severe traumatic brain injury (TBI), to identify factors related to long-term neurocognitive functioning, and to investigate whether performance remained stable or changed over time. METHOD Seventy-nine patients with moderate-severe TBI between the ages of 16 and 55 years were assessed at 3 months, 1, 5, and 10 years postinjury using neuropsychological tests and functional outcomes. Three hierarchical linear models were used to investigate the relationships of domain-specific neurocognitive trajectories (Memory, Executive function, and Reasoning) with injury severity, demographics, functional outcome at 3 months (Glasgow Outcome Scale-Extended) and emotional distress at 1 year (Symptom Checklist 90-Revised). RESULTS Education, injury severity measures, functional outcome, and emotional distress were significantly associated with both Memory and Executive function. Education and emotional distress were related to Reasoning. The interaction effects between time and these predictors in predicting neurocognitive trajectories were nonsignificant. Among patients with data at 1 and 10 year follow-ups (n = 47), 94-96% exhibited stable scores on Executive function and Reasoning tasks, and 83% demonstrated stable scores on Memory tasks. Significant memory decline was presented in 11% of patients. CONCLUSIONS The findings highlight the differential contribution of variables in their relationships with long-term neurocognitive functioning after moderate-severe TBI. RESULTS We found no significant interaction effect of age group and study population in five of six test domains. For processing speed, the effect of age was more pronounced in female soccer players (F = 16.89, p = .002). Further, there was a clear main effect of study population on neurocognitive performance with generally better scores in soccer players. CONCLUSIONS Elite female soccer players generally performed better than the norm sample on tests of cognitive function, and further, cognitive ageing effects were similar in elite soccer players and controls in all but one domain. We derived empirical dietary patterns in 1142 children (average age 6.0 (0.2) years) in Auckland, New Zealand whose mothers had participated in the Screening for Pregnancy Endpoints (SCOPE) cohort study and explored associations with measures of body composition. Participants (Children of SCOPE) had their diet assessed by food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) and empirical dietary patterns were extracted using factor analysis. Three distinct dietary patterns were identified; 'Healthy', 'Traditional' and 'Junk'. Associations between dietary patterns and measures of childhood body composition (waist, hip, arm circumferences, body mass index (BMI), bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) derived body fat percentage, and sum of skinfold thicknesses (SST)) were assessed by linear regression, with adjustment for maternal influences.     Pyogenic liver abscess (LA) is difficult to distinguish from intrahepatic mass-forming cholangiocarcinoma (IMCC) in the emergency department (ED). We evaluated the predictive ability of white blood cells (WBC) and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and delta neutrophil index (DNI) in LA and IMCC in the ED.

    Forty patients with IMCC between January 2011 and December 2018 were included in this study. For each patient with IMCC, two control patients with LA were enrolled based on matching age and sex,-i.e., 80 patients with LA.

    Inflammatory markers, including WBC, PLR, NLR, DNI, and CRP were significantly higher in the LA group than in the IMCC group. For both groups, the area under the curve (AUC) of the initial CRP value was significantly higher (AUC 0.909) than that of the initial serum WBC count, PLR, and DNI levels. On multivariable logistic regression analysis with inflammatory markers, serum CRP (odds ratio, 1.290; 95% confidence interval, 1.148-1.449,

Virtual reality (VR) technology is a promising method for reducing fall risk. However, the absence of representations of the user's body in a VR environment lessens the spatial sense of presence. In terms of user experience, augmented reality (AR) can provide a higher degree of presence and embodiment than VR. We developed an AR-based exergame system that is specifically designed for the elderly to reduce fall risk. Kinect2.0 was used to capture and generate 3D models of the elderly and immerse them in an interactive virtual environment. The software included three functional modules fall risk assessment, cognitive-motor intervention (CMI) training, and training feedback. The User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ-S) was used to evaluate user experience. Twenty-five elders were enrolled in the study. It was shown that the average scores for each aspect were pragmatic quality score (1.652 ± 0.868); hedonic quality score (1.880 ± 0.962); and overall score was 1.776 ± 0.819. The overall score was higher than 0.8, which means that the system exhibited a positive user experience. After comparing the average score in a dataset product of UEQ-S Data Analysis Tool, it was found that the pragmatic quality aspect was categorized as good, while the hedonic quality aspect was categorized as excellent. All statistical evaluations were performed using mixed models and the F-test adjusted by Kenward and Roger and the Bonferroni adjustment for multiple tests. Upon irradiation and synemin inhibition, c-Abl hyperphosphorylation on tyrosine (Y) 412 and threonine (T) 735 was significantly reduced, prompting us to hypothesize that c-Abl tyrosine kinase is an important signaling component of the synemin-mediated radioresistance pathway. Simultaneous targeting of synemin and c-Abl resulted in similar radiosensitization and DSB repair compared with single synemin depletion, suggesting synemin as an upstream regulator of c-Abl. Immunoprecipitation assays revealed a protein complex formation between synemin and c-Abl pre- and post-irradiation.

Because the true sparsity pattern of a model is generally unknown aforehand, it is often explored by a sparse estimation procedure, like least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (lasso). In this study, a penalized least squares (PLS) method for structural equation modeling (SEM) with ordinal data is developed. PLS describes data generation by an underlying response approach, and uses a least squares (LS) fitting function to construct a penalized estimation criterion. A numerical simulation was used to compare PLS with existing penalized likelihood (PL) in terms of averaged mean square error, absolute bias, and the correctness of the model. Based on these empirical findings, a hybrid PLS was also proposed to improve both PL and PLS. The hybrid PLS first chooses an optimal sparsity pattern by PL, then estimates model parameters by an unpenalized LS under the model selected by PL. We also extended PLS to cases of mixed type data and multi-group analysis. All proposed methods could be realized in the R package lslx.

    Resection of insular tumours utilising modern neurosurgical techniques has become commonplace since its safety and reduced morbidity was first established. Interest has grown in the cognitive consequences of insula neurosurgery and studies have largely shown postoperative stability or minor decline. Major or widespread improvements in cognitive functioning following resection of insular tumours have not previously been reported.

    The purpose of this study was to identify assessments used to evaluate the homes of people with disabilities in terms of accessibility, usability, activities, comfort/satisfaction, and aesthetics.

    The home is increasingly becoming an environment for healthcare as more people desire to age in place. Research indicates home environmental modifications to be beneficial to promote a better person-environment fit, especially when using a standardized assessment approach. There is not a comprehensive list of assessments that address home modifications, adaptations, or interior designs for people with disabilities.

    Researchers conducted a rapid review of articles, with data collection scales, instruments, and procedures for home modifications published between 2000 and 2017.

    A total of 26 articles met the inclusion criteria, resulting in the identification of 33 distinct assessments, including 18 assessments evaluating the accessibility of home modifications, 3 assessments examining usability, 15 assessments addressing activities of daily living or functional activities, and 5 assessments addressing comfort and/or satisfaction. No assessments for aesthetics were located.

Research indicates home environmental modifications to be beneficial to promote a better person-environment fit, especially when using a standardized assessment approach. There is not a comprehensive list of assessments that address home modifications, adaptations, or interior designs for people with disabilities. Researchers conducted a rapid review of articles, with data collection scales, instruments, and procedures for home modifications published between 2000 and 2017. A total of 26 articles met the inclusion criteria, resulting in the identification of 33 distinct assessments, including 18 assessments evaluating the accessibility of home modifications, 3 assessments examining usability, 15 assessments addressing activities of daily living or functional activities, and 5 assessments addressing comfort and/or satisfaction. No assessments for aesthetics were located. Researchers developed a list of assessments that could be used for research or practice.     Power outages, a common and underappreciated consequence of natural disasters, are increasing in number and severity due to climate change and aging electricity grids. This narrative review synthesizes the literature on power outages and health in communities.

    We searched Google Scholar and PubMed for English language studies with titles or abstracts containing "power outage" or "blackout." We limited papers to those that explicitly mentioned power outages or blackouts as the exposure of interest for health outcomes among individuals living in the community. The mathematical models of the growth kinetics and lipid phenotypes of both fungal strains were developed, enabling to distinguish three lipid-producing stages, including low lipid-producing, lipid accumulation, and lipid turnover stages. The model validation showed good performances in all nitrogen sources tested for the WT, but only NaNO3 and mixed yeast extract/NH4Cl were fitted well for the Δags1.   • Integrated analysis of single-cell and Allen Human Brain Atlas expression data reveal somatostatin interneurons and astrocytes to be consistent cell associates of depression, through both in vivo imaging and ex vivo cortical gene dysregulation. Providing converging evidence for these observations, GWAS-derived polygenic risk for depression was enriched for genes expressed in interneurons, but not glia. Underscoring the translational potential of multiscale approaches, the transcriptional correlates of depression-linked brain function and structure were enriched for disorder-relevant molecular pathways. These findings bridge levels to connect specific genes, cell classes, and biological pathways to in vivo imaging correlates of depression.Targeted treatments for advanced gastric cancer (GC) are needed, particularly for HER2-negative GC, which represents the majority of cases (80 to 88%). In this study, in silico analyses of the lysine histone demethylases (KDMs) involved in diverse biological processes and diseases revealed that PHD finger protein 8 (PHF8, KDM7B) was significantly associated with poor clinical outcome in HER2-negative GC. The depletion of PHF8 significantly reduced cancer progression in GC cells and in mouse xenografts. PHF8 regulated genes involved in cell migration/motility based on a microarray analysis. Of note, PHF8 interacted with c-Jun on the promoter of PRKCA which encodes PKCα. The depletion of PHF8 or PKCα greatly up-regulated PTEN expression, which could be rescued by ectopic expression of a PKCα expression vector or an active Src. These suggest that PTEN destabilization occurs mainly via the PKCα-Src axis. GC cells treated with midostaurin or bosutinib significantly suppressed migration in vitro and in zebrafish models. Instead of focusing on the three classic effects, we sampled decoy stimuli exhaustively across bidimensional multiattribute space and constructed a full map of decoy influence on choices between two otherwise preferred target items. Our analysis reveals that the decoy influence map is highly structured even beyond the three classic biases. We identify a very simple model that can fully reproduce the decoy influence map and capture its variability in individual participants. This model reveals that the three decoy effects are not distinct phenomena but are all special cases of a more general principle, by which attribute values are repulsed away from the context provided by rival options. The model helps us understand why the biases are typically correlated across participants and allows us to validate a prediction about their interrelationship. This work helps to clarify the origin of three of the most widely studied biases in human decision-making.While near-cognate codons are frequently used for translation initiation in eukaryotes, their efficiencies are usually low ( less then 10% compared to an AUG in optimal context). Here, we describe a rare case of highly efficient near-cognate initiation. A CUG triplet located in the 5' leader of POLG messenger RNA (mRNA) initiates almost as efficiently (∼60 to 70%) as an AUG in optimal context. This CUG directs translation of a conserved 260-triplet-long overlapping open reading frame (ORF), which we call POLGARF (POLG Alternative Reading Frame). Translation of a short upstream ORF 5' of this CUG governs the ratio between POLG (the catalytic subunit of mitochondrial DNA polymerase) and POLGARF synthesized from a single POLG mRNA. Functional investigation of POLGARF suggests a role in extracellular signaling. While unprocessed POLGARF localizes to the nucleoli together with its interacting partner C1QBP, serum stimulation results in rapid cleavage and secretion of a POLGARF C-terminal fragment. Phylogenetic analysis shows that POLGARF evolved ∼160 million y ago due to a mammalian-wide interspersed repeat (MIR) transposition into the 5' leader sequence of the mammalian POLG gene, which became fixed in placental mammals. This discovery of POLGARF unveils a previously undescribed mechanism of de novo protein-coding gene evolution.Whereas the gill chambers of jawless vertebrates open directly into the environment, jawed vertebrates evolved skeletal appendages that drive oxygenated water unidirectionally over the gills. A major anatomical difference between the two jawed vertebrate lineages is the presence of a single large gill cover in bony fishes versus separate covers for each gill chamber in cartilaginous fishes. Here, we find that these divergent patterns correlate with the pharyngeal arch expression of Pou3f3 orthologs. We identify a deeply conserved Pou3f3 arch enhancer present in humans through sharks but undetectable in jawless fish. Minor differences between the bony and cartilaginous fish enhancers account for their restricted versus pan-arch expression patterns. In zebrafish, mutation of Pou3f3 or the conserved enhancer disrupts gill cover formation, whereas ectopic pan-arch Pou3f3b expression generates ectopic skeletal elements resembling the multimeric covers of cartilaginous fishes. Emergence of this Pou3f3 arch enhancer >430 Mya and subsequent modifications may thus have contributed to the acquisition and diversification of gill covers and respiratory strategies during gnathostome evolution.
