A skeletal dysplasia custom-designed NGS panel was performed and the heterozygous pathogenic variant c.620G>A; p.(Gly207Glu) in COL2A1 was detected, establishing the diagnosis of SED-S. Vertebral fusions, observed in our patient, have not been previously described in this dysplasia. This variant has not been previously associated with SED-S, but was reported in two other families with spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia. Thus, this case expands the clinical and mutational spectrum of SED-S and demonstrates that SED-S significantly overlaps with other skeletal dysplasias.
    Work is often a barrier for women to continue breastfeeding after they have given birth. Breastfeeding support is an important part of workplace health promotion. We investigated the implementation of breastfeeding promotion and gender equality polices in workplaces with the Taiwan Badge of Accredited Healthy Workplace.

    Our samples consisted of 1648 corporations with the badge of Accredited Healthy Workplace issued by the Bureau of Health Promotion from 2007 to 2008. Concomitantly, 2000 corporations without accreditation were randomly selected from the National Business Directory as the control group. Data were collected from self-administered questionnaires. Logistic regression was used to examine the association with breast-feeding promotion and other variables in Taiwanese workplaces.

    Members of accredited group of 1089/1648 (66.1%) and the control group of 526/2000 (26.3%) responded to the questionnaire. The accredited companies had more mother-friendly settings, including breastfeeding policies and documents, appropriate breastmilk preserving equipment and settings in the workplace. In the accredited group, breastfeeding rate of mothers returning to work after giving birth was 64.3% in 2008 (1year after giving birth) and 60.4% in 2009 (1year after giving birth), while the rate of the control group was 59.1% in 2008 and 51% in 2009.

  • It is discussed to what extent these confinement effects can be rationalized in the framework of core-shell models, which assume bulk-like and slowed-down motions in central and interfacial confinement regions, respectively.Previous research showed a positive relationship between physical activity and self-regulation in older children and adolescents, but few publications focused on young children. Therefore, the purpose of this review was to examine the impact of physical activity (PA) on the cognitive aspects of self-regulation (inhibition, attention, and working memory, in preschool-aged (3-6 years old) children. The following databases were searched for articles PubMed, SPORTDiscus, PsycINFO, and ERIC. References of the reviewed papers were screened for the identification of additional articles to be included in the review. Randomized control trials were reviewed to assess the impact of PA interventions on the cognitive aspects of self-regulation. There were six articles included in this review. Each study assessed at least one cognitive aspect of self-regulation [attention (n = 4), working memory (n = 2), and inhibition (n = 5)]. Attention was the only aspect that consistently showed improvement as a result of the PA interventions (4 of 4 studies). Only one study showed a positive impact on working memory and 60% of studies (3 of 5 studies) reported a positive relationship between PA and inhibition. Overall, the findings from this review showed that a consistent relationship only existed between attention and PA. No clear relationships were evident between working memory and inhibition and PA.COVID-19 is a global pandemic with uncertain death rates. We examined county-level population morality rates (per 100,000) and case fatality rates by US region and rural-urban classification, while controlling for demographic, socioeconomic, and hospital variables. We found that population mortality rates and case fatality rates were significantly different across region, rural-urban classification, and their interaction. All significant comparisons had p less then 0.001. Northeast counties had the highest population mortality rates (27.4) but had similar case fatality rates (5.9%) compared to other regions except the Southeast, which had significantly lower rates (4.1%). Population mortality rates were highest in urban counties but conversely, case fatality rates were highest in rural counties. Death rates in the Northeast were driven by urban areas (e.g., small, East Coast states), while case fatality rates tended to be highest in the most rural counties for all regions, especially the Southwest. However, on further inspection, high case fatality rate percentages in the Southwest, as well as in overall US counties, were driven by a low case number. This makes it hard to distinguish genuinely higher mortality or an artifact of a small sample size. In summary, coronavirus deaths are not homogenous across the United States but instead vary by region and population and highlight the importance of fine-scale analysis.To investigate whether tamsulosin (TAM) and the hexanic extract of Serenoa repens (HESr) are more effective in combination than as monotherapy in men with moderate-to-severe lower urinary tract symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (LUTS/BPH). Subset analysis of data from a 6-month, multicenter observational study. Patients received either tamsulosin (0.4 mg/day) or HESr (320 mg/day) alone or in combination. Primary endpoints were change in symptoms and quality of life. Tolerability was also assessed. Seven hundred and nine patients were available for intention to treat (ITT) analysis, 263 treated with tamsulosin, 262 with HESr, and 184 with TAM + HESr. After 6 months, International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) scores improved by a mean (standard deviation) of 7.2 (5.0) points in the TAM + HESr group compared to 5.7 (4.3) points with TAM alone and 5.4 (4.6) points with HESr (p less then 0.001). Quality of life showed greatest improvement with combination therapy (p less then 0.02). Adverse effects were reported by 1.9% of patients receiving HESr, 13.3% receiving TAM, and 12.0% receiving TAM + HESr (p less then 0.001).     We present a case of an 18-year-old male patient, who was diagnosed in Libya with left proximal humerus fracture after a trivial trauma and underwent open reduction and internal fixation using k-wires as it was thought to be a simple fracture. Soon after, pain and swelling progressed severely and an open biopsy confirmed a diagnosis of osteosarcoma and imaging suggested metastatic disease to the lungs for which he was started on chemoradiotherapy. He was referred to our cancer center to continue his management and due to the aggressive nature of the tumor, the patient underwent palliative forequarter amputation followed by multiple lines of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, all of which failed to halt the progression of the disease. The patient was lost to follow up due to his decision to go **** to Libya.

    Localized vasculitis of the gastrointestinal tract is an uncommon disease that mainly presents as polyarteritis nodosa and is mainly located on small bowel and gall bladder. Localized eosinophilic vasculitis of the colon, which needs surgical intervention, has never been reported before.

    Cryptorchidism or undescended testis is the most common disorder of male children, which is often diagnosed and treated during childhood. Adult patients with cryptorchidism are uncommon. Herein we report the case of adult inguinal hernia with cryptorchidism successfully treated by laparoscopic surgery simultaneously.

    We report a case of 68 year-old-man who was admitted to our hospital with a complaint of bulge and pain in the right groin area from 2 weeks before. CT or MRI revealed a right inguinal hernia and an undescended testis in the right inguinal canal. He was diagnosed with right inguinal hernia accompanied by cryptorchidism. Laparoscopic transabdominal preperitoneal repair (TAPP) and orchiectomy were performed simultaneously. Postoperative period was uneventful and he was discharged home on the 1st postoperative day. Pathological examination of the specimen was reported as atrophic testis with no malignancy. There has been no recurrence during a follow-up.

We present two cases of metastatic disease with a favorable outcome following surgical treatment.

Treatment consisted of neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by laparoscopic esophagectomy and hepatectomy. The patient remains disease-free 62 months after surgery. Unlike the first case, the second case presented with a large number of liver nodules upon diagnosis, ruling out metastasectomy as a possible treatment. The tumor expressed HER2 receptors and responded favorably to chemotherapy plus trastuzumab for 34 months. At this point, disease progression was observed on the primary site, but the hepatic lesions remained stable. The patient underwent gastrectomy, resumed the chemotherapy regimen, and had a favorable outcome, with stability of the liver metastasis and no local recurrence following primary tumor resection.

Exercise-based interventions have been shown to be effective non-pharmacological methods for improving social participation in post-stroke survivors, however it is unclear what the most effective types of exercise interventions are.

Our last paper demonstrated that SDS prolonged longevity of the annual fish Nothobranchius guentheri, a promising vertebrate model for anti-aging research. However, little is known about its effect on insulin/insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) signaling pathway (IIS pathway). In this study, we show that SDS is able to decrease accumulation of SA-β-Gal. We also show that SDS administraton could reduce the expression levels of Igf-1 and Igf-1R, downregulate the expressions of p-PI3K and p-Akt and upregulate the expression levels of Sirt1 and Foxo3a, both of which are the downstream regulators of the IIS pathway. We also find that SDS could alleviate DNA damage, which could result in increased expression of transcription factor Foxo3a. Collectively, these data indicate that SDS may take part in the IIS pathway.

    We conducted a rapid systematic review of mental health interventions during a medical pandemic, using three electronic databases. Of the 2404 articles identified, 21 primary research studies are included in this review.

    We categorized the findings from the research studies using the following questions What kind of emotional reactions do medical pandemics trigger? Who is most at risk of experiencing mental health sequelae? What works to treat mental health sequelae (psychosocial interventions and implementation of existing or new training programs)? What do we need to consider when designing and implementing mental health interventions (cultural adaptations and mental health workforce)? What still needs to be known?

Directional statistics, which is the multivariate generalization of (univariate) circular statistics, solves this problem using four-dimensional unit vectors and the mathematics of hyperspherical geometry. The purpose of this study was to compare the results of directional analysis to the results of uni- and multi-variate Cardan analysis for representative joint kinematic data during gait. We analyzed hip, knee and pelvis data from three open datasets and report exemplary results for knee kinematics in v-cut vs. side shuffle tasks. We also conducted Monte Carlo simulations, using synthetic data with precisely controlled true angular effects, to systematically compare directional and Cardan analyses. Results show that directional analysis yielded considerably smaller p values (p0.055) for the exemplary dataset. Simulation results confirmed that directional analysis is considerably more powerful (i.e., **** more able to detect true angular effects) than both uni- and multi-variate Cardan analysis. The performance of the qy-RDX had been characterized to clarify the inherent mechanisms. It shows that the⊿Hf of qy-RDX could be largely changed in the range of 23.4 kJ kg-1 to 1343.6 kJ kg-1, whereas the density varies only from 1.81 g cm-3 to 1.86 g cm-3. The resulted detonation velocities are in the range of 8725.5 m·s-1 to 9251.8 m·s-1, depending on the content and state of the TAGP dopant. The sensitivity of the resulted qy-RDX is **** better than pristine RDX due to improved crystal quality as well as higher concentration of hydrogen bonds. The results showed that the earthworm hindgut accumulated high As concentrations resulting in injury to the intestinal epithelia, chloragogenous tissues and coelom tissues. Furthermore, As-contaminated soil induced a significant increase in betaine levels and a decrease in dimethylglycine and myo-inositol levels in the earthworms, suggesting that the osmoregulatory metabolism of the earthworms may have been disturbed. During 9-11 March 2020, the first comprehensive evaluation of the biosafety in all 89 labs qualified for conducting SARS-CoV-2 tests in Sichuan Province of China was conducted. The degree of compliance with 39 criteria in five categories was evaluated biosafety requirements for lab activities (14 criteria), sample transfer, acceptance and management (6 criteria), waste management (9 criteria), personnel training and protection (4 criteria), and lab environmental disinfection, emergency plans and accident handling (6 criteria). The performance of the qy-RDX had been characterized to clarify the inherent mechanisms. It shows that the⊿Hf of qy-RDX could be largely changed in the range of 23.4 kJ kg-1 to 1343.6 kJ kg-1, whereas the density varies only from 1.81 g cm-3 to 1.86 g cm-3. The resulted detonation velocities are in the range of 8725.5 m·s-1 to 9251.8 m·s-1, depending on the content and state of the TAGP dopant. The sensitivity of the resulted qy-RDX is much better than pristine RDX due to improved crystal quality as well as higher concentration of hydrogen bonds. Only singlet oxygen is detected when SMX is degraded by PMS without carbonate. However, both carbonate radicals and hydroxyl radicals are measured in the presence of carbonate. An integrated proteomic and metabolomic approach combined with morphological examination was used to investigate the potential biological toxicity of As-contaminated soil based on an exposure experiment with the earthworm Eisenia fetida. The results showed that the earthworm hindgut accumulated high As concentrations resulting in injury to the intestinal epithelia, chloragogenous tissues and coelom tissues. Furthermore, As-contaminated soil induced a significant increase in betaine levels and a decrease in dimethylglycine and myo-inositol levels in the earthworms, suggesting that the osmoregulatory metabolism of the earthworms may have been disturbed. The significantly altered levels of asparagine and dimethylglycine were proposed as potential biomarkers of As-contaminated soil. However, their biosafety has not been evaluated, which could have been the first gateway to SARS-CoV-2 transmission. During 9-11 March 2020, the first comprehensive evaluation of the biosafety in all 89 labs qualified for conducting SARS-CoV-2 tests in Sichuan Province of China was conducted. The degree of compliance with 39 criteria in five categories was evaluated biosafety requirements for lab activities (14 criteria), sample transfer, acceptance and management (6 criteria), waste management (9 criteria), personnel training and protection (4 criteria), and lab environmental disinfection, emergency plans and accident handling (6 criteria). Outpatient total ankle arthroplasty (TAA) has become more popular in recent years; however, research on surgical outcomes of this procedure has been limited. This study sought to employ large sample, propensity score-matched analyses to assess the safety of outpatient and short-stay discharge pathways following TAA.

    The ACS NSQIP database was used to identify 1141 patients who underwent primary and revision TAA between 2007 and 2017. Propensity score matching was used to match patients based on several factors, including age, sex, body mass index (BMI), American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) classification, and several comorbidities. The incidence of various 30-day complications was compared between the short and standard LOS groups to assess for any differences in short-term outcomes.

    A total of 892 patients were included in the final propensity score-matched analysis, with 446 patients in each group. The short LOS group had a significantly lower rate of medical complications (0.2% vs. 2.5%, p = 0.006) and non-home discharge (1.3% vs. 12.1%, p < 0.001).     Strengthening HIV prevention is imperative given the continued high HIV incidence worldwide. The introduction of oral PrEP as a new biomedical HIV prevention tool can be a potential game changer because of its high clinical efficacy and the feasibility of its provision to different key populations. Documenting the existing experience with PrEP service delivery in a variety of real-world settings will inform how its uptake and usage can be maximised.

    We conducted a scoping review using the five-step framework provided by Arksey and O'Malley. We systematically searched the existing peer-reviewed international and grey literature describing the implementation of real-world PrEP service delivery models reporting on four key components the target population of PrEP services, the setting where PrEP was delivered, PrEP providers' professionalisation and PrEP delivery channels. We restricted our search to English language articles. No geographical or time restrictions were set.

    This review included 33 articles ngs. More research is needed on how integration of services in these contexts could be expanded and optimised to respond to key populations with unmet HIV prevention needs in different settings.

Therefore, it is believed that practical measures such as nutrition education and nutrition guidance and PA education are urgently needed to reduce the incidence of MetS among the elderly.Considering the potential of hydrogels to mimic the cellular microenvironment, methacryloyl gelatin (GelMA) and methacryloyl mucin (MuMA) were selected and compared as bioinspired coatings for commercially available polypropylene (PP) meshes for ventral hernia repair. Thin, elastic hydrated hydrogel layers were obtained through network-forming photo-polymerization, after immobilization of derivatives on the surface of the PP fibers. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) proved the successful coating while the surface morphology and homogeneity were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). The stability of the hydrogel layers was evaluated through biodynamic tests performed on the coated meshes for seven days, followed by inspection of surface morphology through SEM and micro-CT. Taking into account that platelet-rich plasma (PRP) may improve healing due to its high concentration of growth factors, this extract was used as pre-treatment for the hydrogel coating to additionally stimulate cell interactions. The performed advanced characterization proved that GelMA and MuMA coatings can modulate fibroblasts response on PP meshes, either as such or supplemented with PRP extract as a blood-derived bioactivator. GelMA supported the best cellular response. All-atoms molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were performed to examine the different conformational behaviors of the monomeric and dimeric form of SARS-CoV-2 3CLpro apo structure, as revealed by microsecond time scale MD simulations. Throughout an automatic process of topic modeling and network analysis methods, this study identifies eight news frames for each newspaper's Twitter account. Furthermore, the whole pandemic development process is split into three periods-the pre-crisis period, the lockdown period and the recovery period. The networks of the computed frames are visualized by these three segments. This paper contributes to the understanding of how Spanish news media cover public health crises on social media platforms.It is widely, but not universally, believed that the lipids of the plasma membrane are not uniformly distributed, but that "rafts" of sphingolipids and cholesterol float in a "sea" of unsaturated lipids. The physical origin of such heterogeneities is often attributed to a phase coexistence between the two different domains. We argue that this explanation is untenable for several reasons. Further, we note that the results of recent experiments are inconsistent with this picture. However, they are quite consistent with an alternate explanation, namely, that the plasma membrane is a microemulsion of the two kinds of regions. To show this, we briefly review a simplified version of this theory and its phase diagram. We also explicate the dependence of the predicted domain size on four physical parameters. They are the energy cost of gradients in the composition, the spontaneous curvature of the membrane, its bending modulus and its surface tension. This paper contributes to the understanding of how Spanish news media cover public health crises on social media platforms.It is widely, but not universally, believed that the lipids of the plasma membrane are not uniformly distributed, but that "rafts" of sphingolipids and cholesterol float in a "sea" of unsaturated lipids. The physical origin of such heterogeneities is often attributed to a phase coexistence between the two different domains. We argue that this explanation is untenable for several reasons. Further, we note that the results of recent experiments are inconsistent with this picture. However, they are quite consistent with an alternate explanation, namely, that the plasma membrane is a microemulsion of the two kinds of regions. To show this, we briefly review a simplified version of this theory and its phase diagram. We also explicate the dependence of the predicted domain size on four physical parameters. They are the energy cost of gradients in the composition, the spontaneous curvature of the membrane, its bending modulus and its surface tension. Taking values of the latter two from experiment, we obtain domain sizes for several different cell types that vary from 58 to 88 nm.

  • Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) was once thought to be an insurmountable disease marked by a lack of targeted treatments. However, we are now witnessing the dawn of targeted therapies for TNBC in which progress has stemmed from an improved understanding of the components that make TNBC unique. The identification of biomarkers, such as BRCA1/2, PIK3CA and RSK2, have advanced the field remarkably and there is considerable interest in finding novel therapeutics for TNBC that offer durable clinical benefit with fewer adverse events.

    We discuss phase I/II trials of new and emerging targeted therapies for TNBC, according to ClinicalTrials.gov up to June 2020. Although the emphasis is on ongoing and completed early phase trials, we also highlight pivotal studies that have led to the approval of new targeted classes of drugs for TNBC, with a focus on outcomes and common adverse events of each class of therapy.

    The way forward for TNBC treatment is through precision medicine. The use of novel agents matched with biomarkers to identify patients with the best chance of sustainable response offers new hope. We now have great potential for improving the outcomes for patients with TNBC.

    Anemia is often seen in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. However, the implications of anemia on the outcomes of patients with COPD is not clearly known. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the effects of anemia on the morbidity and mortality of patients with COPD.

    We followed PRISMA guidelines to perform a systematic identification of relevant publications in the literature on four academic databases MEDLINE, Scopus, EMBASE, and CENTRAL.

    Out of 1845 records, we included data from 15 articles including 420 970 participants in this review. Our systematic review presents a 2b level of evidence suggesting a higher duration of hospital stay, Charlson comorbidity index score, and mortality rate for patients with COPD and anemia than for patients with COPD without anemia. The meta-analysis revealed a
    effect increase in the mean duration of hospital stay (Hedge's
    , 0.55), Charlson comorbidity index (0.68), and mortality rate (0.49) in patients with COPD and anemia as compared to those in patients with COPD without anemia.

Interestingly, gliptins are currently studied for their counter-regulatory effects against oxidative stress and inflammation via multiple pathways, among which is the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK)/c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) pathway. This cascade can reduce inflammation via mitigating the activity of mothers against decapentaplegic homolog 3 (SMAD3) and c-Jun. However, Alo effect against CP-induced kidney injury has not been previously elucidated. This tempted us to investigate the possible beneficial effect of Alo against CP-induced kidney injury via modulating the MAP3K/JNK/SMAD3 signaling cascade. Thirty-two male Wistar rats were randomly allocated into four groups. CP-treated group received a single dose of CP (200 mg/kg; i.p.). Alo-treated group received Alo (20 mg/kg/day; p.o.) for 7 days with single CP injection on day 2. Seasonal autoregressive integrated moving average (SARIMA) models were used to fit the HFRS incidence and predict the epidemic trend in Anqiu City. Univariate and multivariate generalized additive models were fit to identify and characterize the association between the HFRS incidence and meteorological factors during the study period.

    Statistical analysis results indicate that the annualized average incidence at the town level ranged from 1.68 to 6.31 per 100,000 population among 14 towns in the city, and the western towns exhibit high endemic levels during the study periods.
