    Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), neurogenic dysplasia of the hip (NDH), and Perthes disease often require surgical treatment. Spica casting is a common postoperative immobilization. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the complications related to the immobilization.

    In a retrospective analysis, we included 83 patients (95 hips), who underwent hip reconstructive surgery between 2008 and 2018. We had 43 female and 40 male patients. Age reached from 3months to 19years. All patients were treated with a spica cast postoperatively for a 6-week protocol. Complications were analyzed using the full medical documentation and classified according to Clavien-Dindo.

    We had complications in 23 patients (27.7%). We counted superficial skin lesions in seven, deep skin lesions in three, spasticity of adductors in three, subluxation in two, infection of the plate in one, fracture of the plate in one, compliance problem in one, dislocations of the cast in two, reluxation in one, delayed bone healing in one and spasticity of knee flexors in one case. According to the classification of Clavien-Dindo, we were able to count ten type I, four type II, nine type III, zero type IV and zero type V adverse events.

In this experimental contribution, we explore the joint operation of all mentioned ingredients. We benchmark our time-multiplexing framework that includes a high-performance source of multiphoton states and a large multiplexing network, together with unique detectors with high photon-number resolution, readily available for distributing quantum light and measuring complex quantum correlations. Using an adaptive approach that employs flexible time bins, rather than static ones, we successfully verify high-order nonclassical correlations of many photons distributed over many modes. By exploiting the symmetry of our system and using powerful analysis tools, we can analyze correlations that would be inaccessible by classical means otherwise. In particular, we produce on the order of ten photons and distribute them over 64 modes. Nonclassicality is verified with correlation functions up to the 128th order and statistical significances of up to 20 standard deviations.We search for a Gardner transition in glassy glycerol, a standard molecular glass, measuring the third harmonics cubic susceptibility χ_3^(3) from slightly below the usual glass transition temperature down to 10 K. According to the mean-field picture, if local motion within the glass were becoming highly correlated due to the emergence of a Gardner phase then χ_3^(3), which is analogous to the dynamical spin-glass susceptibility, should increase and diverge at the Gardner transition temperature T_G. We find instead that upon cooling |χ_3^(3)| decreases by several orders of magnitude and becomes roughly constant in the regime 100-10  K. We rationalize our findings by assuming that the low temperature physics is described by localized excitations weakly interacting via a spin-glass dipolar pairwise interaction in a random magnetic field. Our quantitative estimations show that the spin-glass interaction is twenty to fifty times smaller than the local random field contribution, thus rationalizing the absence of the spin-glass Gardner phase.   • To examine the interaction effect between sleep duration and dietary patterns on obesity, in order to explore the possible risk factors for preschool children's obesity.

    During September of 2018 to March of 2019(1148 boys and 981 girls, 1199 living in urban and 930 living in rural, 756 only child and 1373 not only child), a total of 2129 preschool children used two-stage cluster sampling method from 22 kindergartens aged 3-6 years old were investigated. Social-demographic information(included sex, age, only child or not, left-behind children or not, economic status of family, parents 'cultural level and caregivers' information), sleep duration and dietary intake were collected through "Sleep Duration and Physical Development Questionnaire(SDPDQ) of children aged 3-6 years old in Bengbu city".     To examine the interaction effect between sleep duration and dietary patterns on obesity, in order to explore the possible risk factors for preschool children's obesity. During September of 2018 to March of 2019(1148 boys and 981 girls, 1199 living in urban and 930 living in rural, 756 only child and 1373 not only child), a total of 2129 preschool children used two-stage cluster sampling method from 22 kindergartens aged 3-6 years old were investigated. Results from quantitative real-time PCR analysis of six selected GmGRASs suggested that GmGRAS37 was significantly upregulated under drought and salt stress conditions and abscisic acid and brassinosteroid treatment; therefore, this gene was selected for further study. Subcellular localization analysis revealed that the GmGRAS37 protein was located in the plasma membrane, nucleus, and cytosol. Soybean hairy roots overexpressing GmGRAS37 had improved resistance to drought and salt stresses. Likewise, 78 potential differentially expressed genes were identified between clusters having the lowest and highest expression levels of OsNAC78. A gene overlapping analysis identified 19 genes as final candidate targets, and various assays indicated that Os01g0934800 and Os01g0949900 were OsNAC78 targets. Additionally, the cell profiles showed extremely similar expression trajectories between OsNAC78 and the two targets.

  • Drug interactions represent a major issue in clinical settings, especially for critically ill patients such as those with cardiovascular disease (CVD) who require cardiothoracic surgery (CTS) and receive a high number of different medications.

    A cross-sectional study aimed at evaluating the exposure and clinical significance of drug-drug (DDIs) and drug-dietary supplement interactions (DDSIs) in patients admitted for CTS in the University Hospital of Crete Greece. DDIs were evaluated regarding underlying pharmacological mechanisms upon admission, preoperation, postoperation, and discharge from CTS clinic. Additionally, upon admission, the use of dietary supplements (DSs) and if patients had informed their treating physician that they were using these were recorded with subsequent analysis of potential DDSIs with prescribed medications.

    The study employed 76 patients who were admitted for CTS and accepted to participate. Overall, 166 unique DDIs were identified, with 32% of them being related to pharmacold always take into consideration the possibility of DDIs and the likely use of DS products by patients to promote their well-being; this should only be undertaken after receiving medical advice and an evidenced-based evaluation.

The obtained UV-Vis spectra was used to measure band gap energy of as-prepared SnFe2O4 NPs. XRD confirmed the spinel structure of NPs, while SEM and TEM analyses disclosed the size of NPs in the range of 15-50 nm and revealed the spherical shape of NPs. Moreover, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and BET analysis was carried out to estimate elemental composition and specific surface area, respectively. In vitro cytotoxicity of the synthesized NPs were studied on normal (HUVEC, HEK293) and cancerous (A549) human cell lines. HUVEC cells were resistant to SnFe2O4 NPs; while a significant decrease in the viability of HEK293 cells was observed when treated with higher concentrations of SnFe2O4 NPs. Furthermore, SnFe2O4 NPs induced dramatic cytotoxicity against A549 cells. For in vivo study, rats received SnFe2O4 NPs at dosages of 0, 0.1, 1, and 10 mg/kg. The 10 mg/kg dose increased serum blood urea nitrogen and creatinine compared to the controls (P less then 0.05). The pathology showed necrosis in the liver, heart, and lungs, and the greatest damages were related to the kidneys. Overall, the in vivo and in vitro experiments showed that SnFe2O4 NPs at high doses had toxic effects on lung, liver and kidney cells without inducing toxicity to HUVECs. In the current study, we report that porcine cells infected with the porcine alphaherpesvirus pseudorabies virus (PRV) display a rapid and progressive downregulation of ligands for the major activating NK cell receptor NKG2D. This downregulation consists both of a downregulation of NKG2D ligands that are already expressed on the cell surface of an infected cell and an inhibition of cell surface expression of newly expressed NKG2D ligands. Flow cytometry and RT-qPCR assays showed that PRV infection results in downregulation of the porcine NKG2D ligand pULBP1 from the cell surface and a very substantial suppression of mRNA expression of pULBP1 and of another potential NKG2D ligand, pMIC2. Furthermore, PRV-induced NKG2D ligand downregulation was found to be independent of late viral gene expression. We have presented in detail the drug loading capacity and the time-dependent cumulative drug release of DOX from PEG-coated MNPs based MNFs. Specifically, we have selected three different MNPs (NiFe2O4, CoFe2O4 and Fe3O4) coated with PEG for the MNFs and compared their variance in the loading/release efficacy of DOX, through experimental results fitting into mathematical models.     Drug interactions represent a major issue in clinical settings, especially for critically ill patients such as those with cardiovascular disease (CVD) who require cardiothoracic surgery (CTS) and receive a high number of different medications. A cross-sectional study aimed at evaluating the exposure and clinical significance of drug-drug (DDIs) and drug-dietary supplement interactions (DDSIs) in patients admitted for CTS in the University Hospital of Crete Greece. DDIs were evaluated regarding underlying pharmacological mechanisms upon admission, preoperation, postoperation, and discharge from CTS clinic. Additionally, upon admission, the use of dietary supplements (DSs) and if patients had informed their treating physician that they were using these were recorded with subsequent analysis of potential DDSIs with prescribed medications. The study employed 76 patients who were admitted for CTS and accepted to participate. The obtained UV-Vis spectra was used to measure band gap energy of as-prepared SnFe2O4 NPs. XRD confirmed the spinel structure of NPs, while SEM and TEM analyses disclosed the size of NPs in the range of 15-50 nm and revealed the spherical shape of NPs. Moreover, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and BET analysis was carried out to estimate elemental composition and specific surface area, respectively. In vitro cytotoxicity of the synthesized NPs were studied on normal (HUVEC, HEK293) and cancerous (A549) human cell lines. HUVEC cells were resistant to SnFe2O4 NPs; while a significant decrease in the viability of HEK293 cells was observed when treated with higher concentrations of SnFe2O4 NPs. Furthermore, SnFe2O4 NPs induced dramatic cytotoxicity against A549 cells. For in vivo study, rats received SnFe2O4 NPs at dosages of 0, 0.1, 1, and 10 mg/kg. The 10 mg/kg dose increased serum blood urea nitrogen and creatinine compared to the controls (P less then 0.05). The pathology showed necrosis in the liver, heart, and lungs, and the greatest damages were related to the kidneys. Overall, the in vivo and in vitro experiments showed that SnFe2O4 NPs at high doses had toxic effects on lung, liver and kidney cells without inducing toxicity to HUVECs. In the current study, we report that porcine cells infected with the porcine alphaherpesvirus pseudorabies virus (PRV) display a rapid and progressive downregulation of ligands for the major activating NK cell receptor NKG2D. This downregulation consists both of a downregulation of NKG2D ligands that are already expressed on the cell surface of an infected cell and an inhibition of cell surface expression of newly expressed NKG2D ligands. Flow cytometry and RT-qPCR assays showed that PRV infection results in downregulation of the porcine NKG2D ligand pULBP1 from the cell surface and a very substantial suppression of mRNA expression of pULBP1 and of another potential NKG2D ligand, pMIC2. Furthermore, PRV-induced NKG2D ligand downregulation was found to be independent of late viral gene expression.   • Among gastric submucosal tumors, neurogenic tumors are considered to be rare diseases. We experienced a case of laparoscopic local gastrectomy of gastric schwannoma coexisting with extramurally developed gastric GIST found accidentally during surgery. A 61-year-old man was pointed out a gastric submucosal tumor with a diameter of 15 mm in a medical checkup. Endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration(EUS-FNA)was performed, and immunostaining showed that c-kit(-), CD34(-), S-100(+), SMA(-), MIB-1 less then 2%. Diagnosis was gastric schwannoma. We performed laparoscopic local gastrectomy. During the surgery another extramural nodule was accidentally found with a diameter of 8 mm at the anterior wall of the gastric body near lesser curvature. Immunostaining showed c-kit(+), CD34(+)and was diagnosed GIST. Because a gastric schwannoma coexisting with GIST is a rare case, we decided to report it by adding discussion with some literatures.A 37-year-old woman presented with general malaise, anorexia, and nausea. She was hypercalcemic and had an 8-cm- diameter mass in her left breast. Histopathological diagnosis was invasive breast cancer(T3N0M1). She had multiple lung metastases and pleural dissemination, but she did not have bone metastasis. Serum parathyroid hormone-related protein level was elevated. Therefore, it was thought that hypercalcemia was induced by advanced breast cancer. High-volume fluid therapy and bisphosphonate were administered, and electrolyte correction was performed. Her general condition improved after these measures. Although chemotherapy(epirubicin with 5-fluorouracil and cyclophosphamide)was performed twice, breast cancer progressed; therefore, the chemotherapy regimen was changed to nab-paclitaxel, following which the progression of breast cancer was delayed. Left mastectomy was performed to control local tumor enlargement, following which hypercalcemia did not relapse. Hormone therapy showed long-term effectiveness; however, humoral hypercalcemia induced by the malignancy suggested that it was a poor prognosis factor. Aggressive multimodal treatment was important to control tumor growth.Here we report a case of a 41-year-old male patient who underwent resection of a desmoid tumor originating from the greater omentum with no history of open surgery. An elastic hard mass was palpated in the left upper abdomen, but there were no abnormalities on serum chemical tests, including tumor markers. Computed tomography showed a parenchymal tumor located near the descending colon. Integrated positron-emission tomography and computed tomography revealed moderate accumulation of tracer in the tumor. An intra-abdominal malignant mesenchymoma was suspected and surgery was performed. The tumor was located in the anterior portion of the greater omentum. It partially invaded the diaphragm, and the affected regions were concurrently resected. The resected specimen measured 80 mm at longest diameter. The cut surface was grayish white and parenchymal. The histopathological findings showed the atypical spindle shaped tumor cells grown with collagen fiber progression. Immunohistochemical staining for β-catenin showed strong staining in the nuclei and cytoplasm of tumor cells. The patient was diagnosed with desmoid tumor originating from the greater omentum. The desmoid tumor with no history of open surgery was rare. We report this rare case, along with a discussion of the literature.Duodenal gastrointestinal stromal tumor(GIST)are relatively rare. Here, we report a case of a duodenal GIST located in the third portion that was successfully treated via laparoscopic local resection using the Kocher maneuver. A 49-year-old woman with a high BMI of 43.4 kg/m2 was diagnosed with a 20 mm duodenal submucosal tumor in the third portion that was suspected to be a GIST; subsequently, she underwent laparoscopic local resection. After mobilization from the first to third portion of the duodenum using the Kocher maneuver, local resection using a linear stapler was completed. The surgery time was 152 minutes, and the estimated blood loss was approximately zero. The postoperative course was uneventful, and she was discharged on the 7th postoperative day. The pathological diagnosis was ultra-low-grade GIST. This procedure can be a useful option for obese patients with good operative field of view.Here we report a 48-year-old female with recurrent breast cancer. She had received chest muscle-conserving mastectomy and lymph node dissection at another hospital, diagnosed as pStage ⅡB, T2N1M0 premenopausal left endocrine positive/ HER2 negative breast cancer at the age of 45. Longitudinal ulcers descending to the sigmoid colon were present and obstructive colitis was suspected. Enhanced computed tomography showed wall thickness in the Ra, Rb rectum and swelling of the mesorectum lymph node, but distant metastases were not identified. We diagnosed the patient with Ra, Rb rectal cancer cT4aN1aM0, cStage Ⅲb. Because of the risk of anastomotic leakage with obstructive colitis, we planned neoadjuvant chemotherapy(SOX therapy)after laparoscopic transverse colostomy. After neoadjuvant chemotherapy, colonoscopy revealed improvements in the obstructive colitis. The tumor was reduced in size and the chemotherapy appeared effective. We performed laparoscopic rectal super low anterior resection with resection of the D3 lymph node.

  • Offspring of women with type 1 diabetes are at increased risk of fetal growth patterns which are associated with perinatal morbidity. Our aim was to compare rates of large- and small-for-gestational age (LGA; SGA) defined according to different criteria, using data from the Continuous Glucose Monitoring in Type 1 Diabetes Pregnancy Trial (CONCEPTT).

    This was a pre-specified analysis of CONCEPTT involving 225 pregnant women and liveborn infants from 31 international centres ( ClinicalTrials.gov NCT01788527; registered 11/2/2013). Infants were weighed immediately at birth and GROW, INTERGROWTH and WHO centiles were calculated. Relative risk ratios, sensitivity and specificity were used to assess the different growth standards with respect to perinatal outcomes, including neonatal hypoglycaemia, hyperbilirubinaemia, respiratory distress, neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admission and a composite neonatal outcome.

    Accelerated fetal growth was common, with mean birthweight percentiles of 82.1, 85.7 and 63.9 and LGA rates of 62, 67 and 30% using GROW, INTERGROWTH and WHO standards respectively. Corresponding rates of SGA were 2.2, 1.3 and 8.9% respectively. LGA defined according to GROW centiles showed stronger associations with preterm delivery, neonatal hypoglycaemia, hyperbilirubinaemia and NICU admission. Infants born > 97.7th centile were at highest risk of complications. SGA defined according to INTERGROWTH centiles showed slightly stronger associations with perinatal outcomes.

    GROW and INTERGROWTH standards performed similarly and identified similar numbers of neonates with LGA and SGA. GROW-defined LGA and INTERGROWTH-defined SGA had slightly stronger associations with neonatal complications. WHO standards underestimated size in preterm infants and are less applicable for use in type 1 diabetes.

    Novel height, weight and body mass index (BMI) references for children in Switzerland reveal an increase in BMI compared to former percentile curves. This trend may be the result of children with parents originating from Southern European countries having a higher risk of being overweight compared to their peers with parents of Swiss origin. We examined the association of generational, migration-related and socioeconomic factors on BMI in Switzerland and expect the results to lead to more targeted prevention programs.

    From contemporary cross-sectional data, we calculated subgroup-specific BMI percentiles for origin. Results for children of Swiss origin were compared with historical BMI data from Zurich. We tested for the association of overweight and obesity with origin and compared the distributions of BMI percentile ranks. Logistic regression analyses were applied to predict probabilities of being overweight or obese by origin and the Swiss neighborhood index of socioeconomic position (SSEP).

    Serum parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels have been reported to be associated with infectious mortality in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. Peritonitis is the most common and fatal infectious complication, resulting in technique failure, hospital admission and mortality. Whether PTH is associated with peritonitis episodes remains unclear.

    We examined the association of PTH levels and peritonitis incidence in a 7-year cohort of 270 incident PD patients who were maintained on dialysis between January 2012 and December 2018 using Cox proportional hazard regression analyses. Patients were categorized into three groups by serum PTH levels as follows low-PTH group, PTH < 150 pg/mL; middle-PTH group, PTH 150-300 pg/mL; high-PTH group, PTH > 300 pg/mL.

    During a median follow-up of 29.5 (interquartile range 16-49) months, the incidence rate of peritonitis was 0.10 episodes per patient-year. Gram-positive organisms were the most common causative microorganisms (36.2%), and higher percentage of Gram-negative organisms was noted in patients with low PTH levels. Low PTH levels were associated with older age, higher eGFR, higher hemoglobin, calcium levels and lower phosphate, alkaline phosphatase levels. After multivariate adjustment, lower PTH levels were identified as an independent risk factor for peritonitis episodes [hazard ratio 1.643, 95% confidence interval 1.014-2.663, P = 0.044].

    Joint Hypermobility Syndrome (JHS) is a Heritable Disorder of Connective tissue characterised by joint laxity and chronic widespread arthralgia. People with JHS exhibit a range of other symptoms including balance problems. To explore balance further, the objective of this study is to compare responses to forward perturbations between three groups; people who are hypermobile with (JHS) and without symptoms and people with normal flexibility.

This study examined the experience of Samoa subsequent to the 2012 introduction of a stronger policy to improve the healthiness of school food environments. Our aim was to identify opportunities to strengthen healthy school food policy implementation in Samoa and other comparable contexts.

In 2018, we conducted in-depth semi-structured interviews with 30 informants, coupled with analysis of relevant documents, to generate a detailed understanding of the relevant policy implementation processes in Samoa, and the perspectives and capacities of key implementation actors.     Offspring of women with type 1 diabetes are at increased risk of fetal growth patterns which are associated with perinatal morbidity. Our aim was to compare rates of large- and small-for-gestational age (LGA; SGA) defined according to different criteria, using data from the Continuous Glucose Monitoring in Type 1 Diabetes Pregnancy Trial (CONCEPTT). This was a pre-specified analysis of CONCEPTT involving 225 pregnant women and liveborn infants from 31 international centres ( ClinicalTrials.gov NCT01788527; registered 11/2/2013). Infants were weighed immediately at birth and GROW, INTERGROWTH and WHO centiles were calculated. Relative risk ratios, sensitivity and specificity were used to assess the different growth standards with respect to perinatal outcomes, including neonatal hypoglycaemia, hyperbilirubinaemia, respiratory distress, neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admission and a composite neonatal outcome. Accelerated fetal growth was common, with mean birthweight percentiles of 82.1, 85.7 and 63.9 and LGA rates of 62, 67 and 30% using GROW, INTERGROWTH and WHO standards respectively. Corresponding rates of SGA were 2.2, 1.3 and 8.9% respectively. LGA defined according to GROW centiles showed stronger associations with preterm delivery, neonatal hypoglycaemia, hyperbilirubinaemia and NICU admission. Infants born > 97.7th centile were at highest risk of complications. SGA defined according to INTERGROWTH centiles showed slightly stronger associations with perinatal outcomes. GROW and INTERGROWTH standards performed similarly and identified similar numbers of neonates with LGA and SGA. GROW-defined LGA and INTERGROWTH-defined SGA had slightly stronger associations with neonatal complications. This trend may be the result of children with parents originating from Southern European countries having a higher risk of being overweight compared to their peers with parents of Swiss origin. We examined the association of generational, migration-related and socioeconomic factors on BMI in Switzerland and expect the results to lead to more targeted prevention programs. From contemporary cross-sectional data, we calculated subgroup-specific BMI percentiles for origin. Results for children of Swiss origin were compared with historical BMI data from Zurich. We tested for the association of overweight and obesity with origin and compared the distributions of BMI percentile ranks. Logistic regression analyses were applied to predict probabilities of being overweight or obese by origin and the Swiss neighborhood index of socioeconomic position (SSEP). Peritonitis is the most common and fatal infectious complication, resulting in technique failure, hospital admission and mortality. Whether PTH is associated with peritonitis episodes remains unclear. We examined the association of PTH levels and peritonitis incidence in a 7-year cohort of 270 incident PD patients who were maintained on dialysis between January 2012 and December 2018 using Cox proportional hazard regression analyses. Patients were categorized into three groups by serum PTH levels as follows low-PTH group, PTH < 150 pg/mL; middle-PTH group, PTH 150-300 pg/mL; high-PTH group, PTH > 300 pg/mL. During a median follow-up of 29.5 (interquartile range 16-49) months, the incidence rate of peritonitis was 0.10 episodes per patient-year. Gram-positive organisms were the most common causative microorganisms (36.2%), and higher percentage of Gram-negative organisms was noted in patients with low PTH levels. Low PTH levels were associated with older age, higher eGFR, higher hemoglobin, calcium levels and lower phosphate, alkaline phosphatase levels. After multivariate adjustment, lower PTH levels were identified as an independent risk factor for peritonitis episodes [hazard ratio 1.643, 95% confidence interval 1.014-2.663, P = 0.044].   • Phenolic compounds are secondary metabolites that are found ubiquitously in plants, fruits, and vegetables. Many studies have shown that regular consumption of these compounds could have a positive effect on our health. In the MFS group, grades 1, 2, 3, and 4 were present in 15, 24, 17, and 7 patients, respectively, whereas 11 patients in this group did not present ectopia lentis. In the control group, grades 0 and 1 were observed in 30 and 6 individuals, respectively. Sensitivity to ectopia lentis of at least grade 2 was 64.9%, with 100% specificity, whereas sensitivity to ectopia lentis of at least grade 1 was 85.1%, with 83.3% specificity. The positive predictive value of ectopia lentis that was greater than or equal to grade 2 was 100%, whereas that of ectopia lentis greater than or equal to grade 1 was 91.3%. The antioxidant potential of the extracts was assessed by the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH) assay. EE and DCME possessed the most potent radical scavenging capacity. Antimicrobial activity was investigated on eight bacterial, two yeast, and one fungal species. This study aimed to assess women's awareness of preconception folic acid supplementation and its importance to the mother and the fetus.

An electronic questionnaire tool was designed and distributed using Google Forms through social media (Facebook and WhatsApp) websites. Binary logistics regression was used to estimate odds ratios (ORs), with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for predictors of poor levels of awareness about folic acid.

The most commonly reported source of information about folic acid use was the doknowledge about the importance of folic acid, the consequences of folic acid deficiency, and the belief that even non-pregnant women and girls of childbearing age should take folic acid.Grasslands are key repositories of biodiversity and carbon storage and are heavily impacted by effects of global warming and changes in precipitation regimes. Patterns of grassland dynamics associated with variability in future climate conditions across spatiotemporal scales are yet to be adequately quantified. Here, we performed a global meta-analysis of year and growing season sensitivities of vegetation aboveground biomass (AGB), aboveground net primary productivity (ANPP), and species richness (SR) and diversity (Shannon index, H) to experimental climate warming and precipitation shifts. All four variables were sensitive to climate change. Their sensitivities to shifts in precipitation were correlated with local background water availability, such as mean annual precipitation (MAP) and aridity, and AGB and ANPP sensitivities were greater in dry habitats than in nonwater-limited habitats. There was no effect of duration of experiment (short vs long term) on sensitivities. Temporal trends in ANPP and SR sensitivity depended on local water availability; ANPP sensitivity to warming increased over time and SR sensitivity to irrigation decreased over time. Our results provide a global overview of the sensitivities of grassland function and diversity to climate change that will improve the understanding of ecological responses across spatiotemporal scales and inform policies for conservation in dry climates.
    Most research on personality development has employed self-report questionnaires and concerned individuals older than 10years. This is the first study to examine mean-level age differences in personality traits from early childhood to late adolescence in the non-Western cultural context.

    Personality was measured in two community samples of parent reports of 2-18-year-old children (N=4,330) and self-reports of 10-19-year-old adolescents (N=4,663) from Russia by the Inventory of Child Individual Differences-Short version (ICID-S) at the three levels of the hierarchy, the two higher order traits, the Big Five, and lower order traits.

    Across childhood, the Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, and Neuroticism traits increased, and the Extraversion and Openness traits decreased. In adolescence, parent-reported Conscientiousness traits increased and Neuroticism traits decreased, whereas youth-rated Alpha and Agreeableness decreased in middle adolescence. There were small gender differences in trait levels and age trends. Parents and youths did not agree on gender differences in age trends for Neuroticism and Extraversion.

Here, we performed a global meta-analysis of year and growing season sensitivities of vegetation aboveground biomass (AGB), aboveground net primary productivity (ANPP), and species richness (SR) and diversity (Shannon index, H) to experimental climate warming and precipitation shifts. All four variables were sensitive to climate change. Their sensitivities to shifts in precipitation were correlated with local background water availability, such as mean annual precipitation (MAP) and aridity, and AGB and ANPP sensitivities were greater in dry habitats than in nonwater-limited habitats. There was no effect of duration of experiment (short vs long term) on sensitivities. Temporal trends in ANPP and SR sensitivity depended on local water availability; ANPP sensitivity to warming increased over time and SR sensitivity to irrigation decreased over time. Our results provide a global overview of the sensitivities of grassland function and diversity to climate change that will improve the understanding of ecological responses across spatiotemporal scales and inform policies for conservation in dry climates. Most research on personality development has employed self-report questionnaires and concerned individuals older than 10years. This is the first study to examine mean-level age differences in personality traits from early childhood to late adolescence in the non-Western cultural context. Personality was measured in two community samples of parent reports of 2-18-year-old children (N=4,330) and self-reports of 10-19-year-old adolescents (N=4,663) from Russia by the Inventory of Child Individual Differences-Short version (ICID-S) at the three levels of the hierarchy, the two higher order traits, the Big Five, and lower order traits. Across childhood, the Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, and Neuroticism traits increased, and the Extraversion and Openness traits decreased. In adolescence, parent-reported Conscientiousness traits increased and Neuroticism traits decreased, whereas youth-rated Alpha and Agreeableness decreased in middle adolescence. There were small gender differences in trait levels and age trends. Parents and youths did not agree on gender differences in age trends for Neuroticism and Extraversion. The findings support personality maturation from early childhood to late adolescence, with the exception of increasing Neuroticism across childhood, and provide some evidence for the disruption in personality maturation in adolescence.
