    To estimate the effectiveness and safety of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) compared with warfarin in AF patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM).

    A retrospective cohort study was designed, using the UK Clinical Practice Research Datalink (August 2011-June 2018). Participants were 1-year naïve users of DOACs or warfarin, followed from the date of first prescription of an oral anticoagulant until the end of the study period, death, discontinuation of treatment, switching to another anticoagulant, or an outcome of interest, whichever came first. Cox regression analysis was performed to estimate the hazard ratio (HR) adjusted for potential confounders.

    A total of 8555 patients were identified. No significant differences were found between DOACs and warfarin in the risk of stroke (adjusted HR 1.15; 95% CI 0.82-1.60), ischemic and unspecified stroke (adjusted HR 1.23; 95% CI 0.86-1.76) or haemorrhagic stroke (adjusted HR 0.75; 95% CI 0.30-1.85), and myocardial infarction (adjusted HR 1.39;95% CI 0.99-1.97). DOAC and warfarin users were comparable with respect to risk of major bleed (adjusted HR 0.83; 95% CI 0.68-1.03), intracranial bleeding (HR 0.66; 95% CI 0.34-1.30), gastrointestinal bleeding (HR 0.88; 95% CI 0.60-1.30), and bleeding on other clinically relevant sites (HR 0.89; 95% CI 0.60-1.31). In the subgroup analyses stratified by gender and diabetes severity, the risk for stroke and bleeding remained consistent.

Although oxide materials are important candidates for the next generation of spintronics, ferromagnetism decays severely when the thickness is scaled to the nanometer regime, leading to deterioration of device performance. Here, a methodology is reported for maintaining strong ferromagnetism in insulating LaCoO3 (LCO) layers down to the thickness of a single unit cell. It is found that the magnetic and electronic states of LCO are linked intimately to the structural parameters of adjacent "breathing lattice" SrCuO2 (SCO). As the dimensionality of SCO is reduced, the lattice constant elongates over 10% along the growth direction, leading to a significant distortion of the CoO6 octahedra, and promoting a higher spin state and long-range spin ordering. For atomically thin LCO layers, surprisingly large magnetic moment (0.5 μB /Co) and Curie temperature (75 K), values larger than previously reported for any monolayer oxides are observed. Thirty-three healthy male participants (age = 25.12 ± 3.51 years; body mass index = 24.25 ± 2.48 kg/m2 ) completed the two-session study, one with placebo and the other with oxytocin. We used mixed-effects models to investigate effects of treatment (oxytocin, placebo), response type (approach, avoid) and stimulus (high, low craving). The results showed that both approach and avoid responses tended to be faster for foods higher in craving compared to foods lower in craving. Most importantly, we did not observe any significant effects of oxytocin compared to placebo in motivational behaviour towards food. Our study demonstrates a general response bias towards foods with different craving values, which could have implications for future studies investigating food-related behaviour. We discuss possible explanations for the null effects of oxytocin and suggest further investigation of the relationship between oxytocin, dopamine and food-reward processing.

    Quantitative 1997 women giving birth at two tertiary care facilities (one in each country). Qualitative 48 women and 19 partners from tertiary, secondary and primary care facilities.

    Case review using data from a target of 2000 consecutive case records. Qualitative interviews with a purposive sample of women and partners, using a grounded theory approach.

    A total of 261 stillbirths were recorded, with a rate of 16% in Tanzania and 10% in Zambia, which is higher than the previous estimates of 2.24 and 2.09%, respectively, for those countries. Women in both countries who reported a previous stillbirth were more likely to have stillbirth (RR1.86, 95%CI 1.23-2.81). The cause of death was unexplained in 28% of cases. Qualitative findings indicated that not knowing what caused the baby to be stillborn prevented women from grieving. This was compounded by the poor communication skills of health professionals, who displayed little empathy and skill when counselling bereaved families.

    The stillbirth risk in both facilities was far higher than the risk recorded from national data, with women reporting a previous stillbirth being at higher risk. Women want to know the cause of stillbirth and an exploration of appropriate investigations in this setting is required. Providing health professionals with support and continuing training is key to improving the experiences of women and future care.

    There is increasing evidence that periodontitis may affect male sexual health (MSH) (erectile function, production of sex hormones, and semen quality). However, a limited number of clinical studies demonstrate the association between MSH and periodontitis.

    The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between periodontitis and MSF.

    A comprehensive systematic review of the published literature in MEDLINE, PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases from the earliest available online indexing year until October 2020 was performed, in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines. Keywords related to periodontitis were combined with words describing MSH.

    A total of 19 studies were included and discussed in the systematic review. The number of study participants ranged from 53 to 197,136 individuals, aged between 18 and 95years (mean age, 41.2years). Six studies did not report the age of the participants. Out of nine studies, eight found a significant association between erectile dysfuned a significant association between periodontitis and ED, although the responsible mechanisms remain unclear. The potential associations between sex hormone levels, semen quality, and periodontitis are yet to be demonstrated. In order to improve patient management, dentists and physicians need to be aware of the association between male sexual health problems and periodontitis.
    To develop and validate 10-year risk prediction models, nomograms and charts for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in primary care, in order to guide individualized treatment.

    This was a 10-year population-based observational cohort study. A total of 141 516 Chinese T2DM patients without history of cardiovascular disease or ESRD who were managed in public primary care clinics in 2008 were included and followed up until December 2017. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/p62-mediated-mitophagy-inducer.html Two-thirds of these patients were randomly selected to develop sex-specific ESRD risk prediction models using Cox regressions. Since the vitreous is not actively regenerated or replenished, there is a need for a vitreous substitute to fill the vitreous cavity to provide a temporary or permanent tamponade to the retina following some vitreoretinal surgeries. An ideal vitreous substitute could probably be left inside the eye forever. The vitreous humor is transparent, biocompatible, viscoelastic and highly hydrophilic; polymeric hydrogels with these properties can be a potential candidate to be used as vitreous substitutes. To meet the tremendous demand for the vitreous substitute, many scientists all over the world have developed various kinds of vitreous substitutes or tamponade agent. Vitreous substitutes, whatsoever developed till date, are associated with several advantages and disadvantages, and there is no ideal vitreous substitute available till date. This review highlights the polymer-based vitreous substitutes developed so far, along with their advantages and limitations.   • Whether direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are more effective and safer than warfarin among Asian patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) undergoing dialysis remains unclear.

    We first compared the risks of ischemic stroke/systemic embolism (IS/SE) and major bleeding associated with DOACs compared with warfarin, in NVAF Asians undergoing dialysis using the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) (Aim 1). Next, we searched PubMed and Medline from January 1, 2010 until January 31, 2020, to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of all observational real-world studies comparing DOACs with warfarin specifically focused on NVAF patients with stage 4 or 5 chronic kidney disease undergoing dialysis (Aim 2). Finally, we tested the hypothesis whether AF patients undergoing dialysis treated with OACs (warfarin and DOACs) would be associated with lower risk of adverse clinical outcomes as compared to those without OACs using the Taiwan NHIRD (Aim 3).

We previously showed that partial charge neutralization of the juxtamembrane (JX) region of EGFR via the EGFR R1-6 mutant construct induces constitutive receptor activation and transformation of NIH 3T3 cells, both from the plasma membrane and from the ER when combined with the ER-retaining L417H mutation (Bryant et al. in J Biol Chem 28834930-34942, 2013). Here, we use chemical crosslinking and immunoblotting to show that these mutant constructs form constitutive, phosphorylated dimers in both the plasma membrane and the ER. Furthermore, we combine this electrostatic perturbation with conformationally-restricted receptor mutants to provide evidence that activation of EGFR R1-6 dimers requires functional coupling both between the EGFR extracellular dimerization arms and between intracellular tyrosine kinase domains. In face of diagnosis and therapy challenges, and the elusive PD etiology, the use of alternative methodological approaches for the elucidation of the disease pathophysiological mechanisms and proposal of novel potential therapeutic interventions has become increasingly necessary. In the present study, we first reconstructed the transcriptional regulatory networks (TN), centered on transcription factors (TF), of two brain regions affected in PD, the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc) and the frontal cortex (FCtx). Then, we used case-control studies data from these regions to identify TFs working as master regulators (MR) of the disease, based on region-specific TNs. Twenty-nine regulatory units enriched with differentially expressed genes were identified for the SNc, and twenty for the FCtx, all of which were considered MR candidates for PD. Three consensus MR candidates were found for SNc and FCtx, namely ATF2, SLC30A9, and ZFP69B.     HIV-related stigma continues to serve as a major barrier to HIV care. HIV stigma reduction interventions are urgently needed to promote and protect the health of persons living with HIV (PLWH). Resilience has been identified as a potential leverage to mitigate the impact of HIV-related stigma among PLWH.

    We examined whether two resilience measures (i.e., social support and resilience assets and resources [RAR]) moderated the relationship between experienced HIV stigma and the HIV care continuum as well as how they moderated the relationship between the consequences of experienced HIV stigma (CES) and the HIV care continuum among 300 PLWH in Louisiana. Separate bootstrapping analyses were conducted to test for evidence of moderated moderation.

    Most participants were Black (79%) and had been living with HIV for 10years or more. A relatively high sample of men who have sex with men (MSM) were enrolled (37%). The most common CES were depression (67%). The most common manifestation of experienced HIV stigma was being gossiped about (53%).
    Whether direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) are more effective and safer than warfarin among Asian patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) undergoing dialysis remains unclear. We first compared the risks of ischemic stroke/systemic embolism (IS/SE) and major bleeding associated with DOACs compared with warfarin, in NVAF Asians undergoing dialysis using the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) (Aim 1). Next, we searched PubMed and Medline from January 1, 2010 until January 31, 2020, to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of all observational real-world studies comparing DOACs with warfarin specifically focused on NVAF patients with stage 4 or 5 chronic kidney disease undergoing dialysis (Aim 2). Finally, we tested the hypothesis whether AF patients undergoing dialysis treated with OACs (warfarin and DOACs) would be associated with lower risk of adverse clinical outcomes as compared to those without OACs using the Taiwan NHIRD (Aim 3). From June 1, 2012, to DecIS/SE (hazard ratio (HR)1.54; [95% confidential interval (CI)1.29-1.84];P < 0.0001) and comparable risk of major bleeding compared to those without OAC treatment. The results show that malnutrition and hostile community environment during early childhood impairs the physical development of children. The results also reveal that malnutrition, indoor air pollution, poor household sanitation condition, hostile community environment, lack of education among household adults, domestic violence on women in the community, and lack of autonomy among women in the household are the major biological and social risk factors that affect the cognitive and language development of Indian children.
    Despite successful enactment of Domestic Violence act, 2005 in India to protect Indian women from any kind of domestic violation offence, the decline trend of prevalence of spousal violence against women still remains low. The study aims to explain the factors associated with spousal violence against women through a multilevel modeling framework.

    We used multilevel logistic regression model, basically here we carried out two-level random intercept model where the data base is used from National Family Health survey 2015-16 data for the fulfillment of our study objectives. A total 34,921 women, who were selected for 2015-16 domestic violence modules by NFHS, were included in this present study.

    Result of multilevel logistic regression model showed that women who were belonged to poorest economic background, lived in rural areas, had low level of education or no education were at more risk in experiencing violence from their husband. Factors as large family size with more children in a household have a significant positive association with the prevalence of spousal violence against women. In case of higher level contextual variables unemployment, poverty has a crucial effect for upbringing spousal violence where higher literacy rate of a region has a strength that can reduce the probability of violence against women.

Previous ecological studies suggested that higher species richness of rodents could decrease the risk of RBDs in humans, because the regulatory pressure of predators could reduce contact among rodents, and between humans and rodents. Using surveillance data, we investigated the association of predator species richness with hantavirus infection emergence in 5562 Brazilian inland municipalities between 2007 and 2017. Multivariable logistic regression models were used for the analyses. Diurnal and non-diurnal predator species were independent explanatory variables in the models. Rodent species richness and demographic, socioeconomic, and environmental factors were used as covariates. During the study period, 1084 cases were reported in 429 municipalities. The results showed a reverse-U-shaped association between diurnal predator species richness and hantavirus infection emergence (odds ratio [OR] 0.463, 0.688, and 0.553 for the first [lowest], third, and fourth [highest] quartiles, respectively, using the second quartile as a reference), while higher non-diurnal predator species richness tended to be associated with higher emergence risk (OR 0.134, 1.065, and 2.708 for the first, third, and fourth quartiles, respectively). The difference in these associations illustrates the complexity of the effects of predator species richness on human RBDs, which require further investigation in follow-up studies. The results showed a close link between environmental factors and public health, emphasizing that the One Health concept should be employed to understand the dynamics of RBDs.Facial nerve trauma is a common cause of facial paralysis; both blunt and penetrating forces may compromise the facial nerve.   • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES To determine the prevalence and severity of traumatic intracranial hemorrhage (tICH) in a large cohort of older adults presenting with low-energy falls and the association with anticoagulation or antiplatelet medication. DESIGN Bicentric retrospective cohort analysis. SETTING Two level 1 trauma centers in Switzerland and Germany. PARTICIPANTS Consecutive sample of older adults (aged ≥65 y) presenting to the emergency department (ED) over a 1-year period with low-energy falls who received cranial computed tomography (cCT) within 48 hours of ED presentation. MEASUREMENTS The prevalence and severity of tICHs was assessed and the outcomes (in-hospital mortality, admission to intensive care unit [ICU], or neurosurgical intervention) were specified. We used multivariate regression models to measure the association between anticoagulation/antiplatelet therapy and the risk for tICH after adjustment for known predictors. RESULTS The overall prevalence for tICH detected by cCT was 176 of 2567 (6.9es, visible injuries above the clavicles were the strongest clinical predictors for tICH. Our findings merit prospective validation. © 2020 The American Geriatrics Society.INTRODUCTION The associations of epidural analgesia and low Apgar score found in the Swedish Registry might be a result of confounding by indication. The objective of this study was to assess the possible effect of intrapartum epidural analgesia on low Apgar score and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admission in term born singletons with propensity score matching. MATERIAL AND METHODS This was a propensity score matched study (n = 257 872) conducted in a national cohort of 715 449 term live born singletons without congenital anomalies in the Netherlands. Mothers with prelabor cesarean section were excluded. Main outcome measures were 5-minute Apgar score less then 7, 5-minute Apgar score less then 4 and admission to a NICU for at least 24 hours. First, an analysis of the underlying risk factors for low Apgar score less then 7 was performed. Multivariable analyses were applied to assess the effect of the main risk factor, intrapartum epidural analgesia, on low Apgar score to adjust the results for confos then 7 were also significantly increased for spontaneous start of labor (aOR 2.0, 95% CI 1.8-2.1) and for spontaneous delivery. CONCLUSIONS Intrapartum epidural analgesia at term is strongly associated with low Apgar score and more NICU admissions, especially in spontaneous deliveries. METHODS A cross-sectional study was performed with enrolment of parturients and their newborns. RESULTS Positive IgM antibodies for ZIKV, dengue (DENV) and Chikungunya (CHIKV) were present in 6.9, 11.9 and 22.8% of the parturients, and IgG antibodies were detected in 72.3, 92.3 and 38.6%, respectively. No cases of DENV congenital infection were identified. ZIKV and CHIKV congenital infections were observed in 16.5 and 13% of newborns, respectively. CONCLUSIONS High exposure rates to the three arboviruses and the identification of newborns with ZIKV and CHIKV congenital infections reinforces the necessity of ZIKV and CHIKV prenatal and neonatal screening in endemic regions. © The Author(s) 2019. The present study used infrared thermography to 1) measure differences in capsaicin-induced neurogenic flare between non-Hispanic black (NHB) and non-Hispanic white (NHW) adults and 2) determine the association between neurogenic flare and secondary hyperalgesia. METHODS Fifty-four participants (NHB N = 28) underwent heat/capsaicin sensitization model procedures. Neurogenic flare was examined using experimenter (i.e., subjective) and thermography (i.e., objective) measurements. A typically nonpainful mechanical punctate probe was used to measure secondary hyperalgesia. RESULTS Ethnic groups did not significantly differ in age, sex, marital status, or personal income. Previously, we have shown that hepatic Mrp4 expression increases following acetaminophen overdose. In ****, these increases in Mrp4 expression are observed specifically in hepatocytes undergoing active proliferation. From this, we hypothesized that Mrp4 plays a key role in hepatocyte proliferation and that lack of Mrp4 impedes liver regeneration following liver injury and/or tissue loss. To evaluate the role of Mrp4 in these processes, we employed 2/3rd partial hepatectomy (PH) as an experimental liver regeneration model. In this study, we performed PH-surgery on male wildtype (WT, C57BL/6J) and Mrp4 knockout (Mrp4 KO) ****. Plasma and liver tissues were collected at 24, 48 and 72 hr post-surgery and evaluated for liver injury and liver regeneration endpoints, and for PH-induced hepatic lipid accumulation. Our results show that lack of Mrp4 did not alter hepatocyte proliferation and liver injury following PH as evaluated by Ki-67 antigen staining and plasma ALT levels. To our surprise, Mrp4 KO **** exhibited increased hepatic lipid content, in particular, di- and triglyceride levels. Gene expression analysis showed that lack of Mrp4 upregulated hepatic lipin1 and diacylglycerol O-acyltransferase 1 and 2 gene expression, which are involved in the synthesis of di- and triglycerides. Previously, we have shown that hepatic Mrp4 expression increases following acetaminophen overdose. In mice, these increases in Mrp4 expression are observed specifically in hepatocytes undergoing active proliferation. From this, we hypothesized that Mrp4 plays a key role in hepatocyte proliferation and that lack of Mrp4 impedes liver regeneration following liver injury and/or tissue loss. To evaluate the role of Mrp4 in these processes, we employed 2/3rd partial hepatectomy (PH) as an experimental liver regeneration model. In this study, we performed PH-surgery on male wildtype (WT, C57BL/6J) and Mrp4 knockout (Mrp4 KO) mice. Plasma and liver tissues were collected at 24, 48 and 72 hr post-surgery and evaluated for liver injury and liver regeneration endpoints, and for PH-induced hepatic lipid accumulation. Our results show that lack of Mrp4 did not alter hepatocyte proliferation and liver injury following PH as evaluated by Ki-67 antigen staining and plasma ALT levels. To our surprise, Mrp4 KO mice exhibited increased hepatic lipid content, in particular, di- and triglyceride levels. Using experimental data, we analyze the performance of these two vital systems in light of the fundamental bounds set by the recently discovered thermodynamic uncertainty relation (TUR), which places an inherent trade-off between the precision of a desirable output and the amount of energy dissipation required. We show that the DNA polymerase operates close to the TUR lower bound, while the ribosome operates ∼5 times farther from this bound. This difference originates from the enhanced binding discrimination of the polymerase which allows it to operate effectively as a reduced reaction cycle prioritizing correct product formation. We show that approaching this limit also decouples the thermodynamic uncertainty factor from speed and error, thereby relaxing the accuracy-speed trade-off of the system. Altogether, our results show that operating near this reduced cycle limit not only minimizes thermodynamic uncertainty, but also results in global performance enhancement of KPR circuits.We propose a method for enumerating entanglements between long chained, linear polymers that is based on the Gaussian linking number. The linking number is calculated between closely approaching segments of the macromolecular chains. Topological features of an entanglement, i.e., the extent to which one open segment winds around another, are reflected by the linking number. We show that using this measure, we can track disentanglement events through a deformation history and gain insights into how large scale disentanglements lead to failure. Incorporating an additional step where the topological entanglements identified along each chain are optimally clustered using standard clustering algorithms, we can also obtain a measure of the average number of rheological constraints that exist along each chain in an ensemble. Comparisons with other methods of enumerating entanglements, especially the primitive path analysis, are also made. Our results indicate that the linking number between two entangled segments in the undeformed state is a good indicator of the strength of the entanglement. Also, disentanglements occurring overwhelmingly around chain ends are an important cause of failure when a triaxial stress state exists in the polymer.Recent experiments show universal features of ratchet gear dynamics that are powered by different types of active baths. We investigate further for the case of a ratchet gear in a bath of self-propelling granular rods (SPRs). The resulting angular velocity was found to follow a nonmonotonic dependence to the SPR concentration similar to the observation from other active bath systems. This behavior is caused by the interplay of the momentum transfer of the SPRs in the trapping regions of the gear and the mean velocity of the SPRs inside the bath. For all SPR concentrations, we found that the angular velocity is proportional to the product of the number of SPRs pushing the gear and the SPRs mean velocity.We investigate the impact of attractive-repulsive interaction in networks of limit cycle oscillators. Mainly we focus on the design principle for generating an antiphase state between adjacent nodes in a complex network. We establish that a partial negative control throughout the branches of a spanning tree inside the positively coupled limit cycle oscillators works efficiently well in comparison with randomly chosen negative links to establish zero frustration (antiphase synchronization) in bipartite graphs. Based on the emergence of zero frustration, we develop a universal 0-π rule to understand the antiphase synchronization in a bipartite graph. Further, this rule is used to construct a nonbipartite graph for a given nonzero frustrated value. We finally show the generality of 0-π rule by implementing it in arbitrary undirected nonbipartite graphs of attractive-repulsively coupled limit cycle oscillators and successfully calculate the nonzero frustration value, which matches with numerical data. The validation of the rule is checked through the bifurcation analysis of small networks.

Eighteen boys with obesity were treated with recombinant human growth hormone for one year. Anthropometric measurements, endocrine testing, and cardiovascular risk markers were performed in all obese boys in baseline, and follow-up visits were performed at 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, and one year, respectively. After one year of recombinant human growth hormone treatment, the body mass index standard deviation scores decreased (P less then 0.001) and insulin-like growth factor 1 levels increased (P less then 0.001). GH treatment also reduced low density lipoprotein cholesterol (P less then 0.001), total cholesterol (P less then 0.001), triglycerides (P=0.042), and alanine aminotransferase (P=0.027) when compared with the baseline. The skin temperature on the ischemic colitis-induced region was determined. To assess the colonic damage score and collagen deposition, colonic tissue sections were stained with hematoxylin and eosin (H&E), and Masson trichrome staining was performed. Western blot analysis for A2AR, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), and IL-6, Bax, Bcl-2, and extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2) was performed. Skin temperature was increased and mucosal damage and collagen deposition were observed in the affected colonic tissues in the ischemic colitis rats. Expressions of inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6) and inflammatory mediator (COX-2) were upregulated in the ischemic colitis rats. Apoptosis was increased by decreasing the ratio of Bcl-2 to Bax and by suppressing the phosphorylated form of ERK1/2 expression in the ischemic colitis rats.     The PDTAP study is a national-level cohort study in China. A newly developed PD telemedicine application provided a unique and convenient way to collect multicenter, structured data across units.

    The PDTAP study was underway in 27 hospitals from 14 provinces located at 7 geographical regions (northwest, northeast, north, central, southwest, southeast, and south) in China.

    Our study aims to enroll at least 7000 adult patients with end-stage renal disease receiving PD.

    Eight perfusionists performed an operation on the heart-lung machine (HLM) wearing eye tracking glasses, each in real OR and simulator. The three most important phases for perfusionists (going on bypass, cardioplegia administration and coming off bypass) were considered. Additional to eye tracking data as objective measure, questionnaires were completed, and interviews conducted afterwards.

    The structure of simulator and real OR is perceived as basically the same. Yet there are differences in the HLM-models used and the temporal sequence. Different perception of both situations is reported in interviews and reflected in significant differences in the rating scales (NASA-TLX) on three of six subscales. In eye tracking data, certain AOIs could be identified for the individual phases, both in OR and simulator-an indication of fundamental similarity.

  • Obesity configures a pathophysiological profile that predisposes the development of metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, critically impacting public health. The chronic dysregulation of immuno-metabolic components triggered by pediatric obesity is a common but scarcely understood aspect of the disease. Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) are a group of transcription factors essential for energy and immune homeostasis of different tissues. Besides, the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) activation influences insulin secretion, but also regulates the cytokine profile possibly mediated through a PPAR isotype. However, the role of PPARs and GLP-1R in leukocytes from obese pediatric patients remains unclear. Therefore, we examined the expression of PPARs isotypes and GLP-1R in leukocytes, and its correlation with metabolic, hormonal, inflammatory, and anthropometric markers in an obese pediatric population.

    Obese children and adolescents presented a significant increase in anthropometrct cytokine secretion from different immune and adipose cells, likely triggering an inflammatory profile as a consequence of obesity. Altogether, these findings may impact the understanding and implementation of PPARα or GLP-1R agonists in the clinic.
    The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) epidemic is a global health problem whose number of cases are always higher among men who have sex with men (MSM). Most existing MSM have moderate and very high risk behaviour in HIV transmission. This study was designed to identify correlations between drug use, HIV disclosure and interpersonal communication patterns on sexual risk behaviour among HIV-positive MSM.

    This study used a cross sectional design with a purposive sampling technique for participants who visited the voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) clinic in a referral hospital and snowball sampling technique for participants in the work area of a community health centre in Batam involving 126 HIV-positive MSM. Data were collected by 5 part questionnaire, namely demographic questionnaire, drug screening questionnaire, brief scale for HIV self disclosure, communication pattern questionnaire-short form, and safe sex behaviour questionnaire. Bivariate analysis was applied to determine whether there is a rent, personal counselling and plan specific learning model by involving HIV-positive MSM in reducing HIV transmission from risky behaviour.
    Since the beginning of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the incidence of thromboembolism has been increasingly reported. The aim of this systematic review was to explore the incidence of venous and arterial thromboembolism among COVID-19 patients requiring hospitalization.

    Medline, Embase, Scopus, and grey literature were searched until June 2020. Observational studies reported on the incidence of venous thromboembolism (VTE), including pulmonary embolism (PE) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or arterial thromboembolism (ATE) were included. The pool incidences and their 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated using the random-effects model.

    A total of 36 studies were included. In the intensive care unit (ICU) setting, the pooled incidence of VTE was 28% (95% CI, 22-34%). Subgroups based on compression ultrasound (CUS) screening revealed a higher incidence of DVT in the CUS screening group than in the no CUS screening group (32% [95% CI, 18-45%] vs. 6% [95% CI, 4-9%]). The pooled incidence of ATE in ICU was 3% (95% CI, 2-5%). In the non-ICU setting, the pooled incidence of VTE was 10% (95% CI, 6-14%,).

    Autophagy plays an essential role in metastasis of malignancies. Although our studies showed that Aurora-B facilitate pulmonary metastasis in OS, the mechanism of Aurora-B kinase on autophagy and metastasis in OS has not been explored.

    Clinical-pathological parameters and follow-up information was collected in OS patients. Immunohistochemical staining was performed to detect Aurora-B and LC3 protein in OS tissues. Short hairpin RNA transfection was used to silence Aurora-B in OS cells. Real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) was performed to detect Aurora-B mRNA expression in OS cells. Aurora-B and autophagy related protein were measured by Western blot. Transmission electron microscopy and laser scanning confocal microscopy were performed to observe the formation of autophagosomes and autolysosomes. Migratory and invasive ability of OS cells were measured by Wound healing and transwell assays. Orthotopic xenograft model was used to evaluate the effect of autophagy mediated by Aurora-B inhibition on pulmonaring OS metastasis. Targeted Aurora-B/mTOR/ULK1 pathway may be a promising treatment strategy for OS patients.
