  • Objectives To assess publications examining the occurrence, composition, and clinical significance of a microbiome at the ocular surface. Methods MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Google Scholar were searched. Reference lists of included articles were also searched for relevant citations. All publications up to June 1, 2019, were analyzed. Results Eleven articles and 1 abstract were included, analyzing 661 patients. Articles generally report bacteria to the genus level. The presence of DNA associated with diverse bacterial species was reported including pathogenic species, such as Pseudomonas and Neisseria. Bacterial DNA that makes up the microbiome, such as Acinetobacter, Actinomyces, Aquabacterium, Bradyrhizobium, Corynebacterium, Sphingomonas, Staphylococcus, and Streptococcus, in other parts of the body was found. The putative ocular microbiome is consistent between right and left eyes and is affected by contact lens use (higher Pseudomonas levels) and blepharitis (higher Staphylococcus levels). Conclusions There is a significant likelihood that there is at least a transitory ocular surface microbiome, with Acinetobacter, Corynebacterium, Propionibacterium, Staphylococcus, and Streptococcus detected in at least 7 of 11 studies. Endothelial cell density (ECD) was evaluated using the manual center technique in both machines. Bland-Altman graphs were used to assess the agreement between the devices, and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) served to assess intraobserver variability for each device. Results Recruited were 49 healthy subjects with a mean age of 48.9±15.6 years, 49 right eyes were included. The mean ECD was comparable between the Tomey EM-3000 and the Konan-Noncon Robo SP-6000 (2,713.2±242.4 vs. 2,700.8±300.5 cells/mm, respectively, P=0.47) with a mean difference of 12.4 cells/mm (0.67%), a mean ECD absolute difference of 93.3 cells/mm, and low 95% limits of agreement of -222.0 to +246.9 cells/mm. A folded empirical distribution function curve showed that all differences fell within 525.4 cells/mm, centered around a median of 13.3 cells/mm. Intraclass correlation coefficient was high for both the Konan-Noncon Robo SP-6000 (0.93, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.89-0.95) and the Tomey EM-3000 (0.88, 95% CI 0.82-0.93). Conclusions The difference in endothelial cell measurements between the Konan SP-6000 and the Tomey EM-3000 specular microscopes through the center and the L-count analyzing techniques, respectively, is clinically small and not statistically significant. A single subconjunctival injection of 0.08 mL of Aflibercept (Eylea 25 mg/mL) was administered near the limbus in proximity to the areas of maximal pathological neovascularization. Follow-up visits were scheduled on days 7, 30, 60, and 90 following injection. Best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), intraocular pressure, slitlamp examination, digital cornea photography, specular microscopy, and anterior-segment optical coherence tomography were documented at each visit. The images were graded by a masked observer for density, extent, and centricity of corneal vascularization. Results Six eyes of six patients were analyzed. No clinically significant ocular or systemic adverse events were documented. No change was noted in extent, density, or centricity of corneal blood vessels at seven, 30, and 90 days after injection (P>0.1 for all time point comparisons, Friedman test). Best-corrected visual acuity fluctuated insignificantly in 5/6 patients during follow-up time, and objective but not subjective improvement of BCVA was noted in one patient with no concurrent change of neovascularization. The recruitment has therefore halted prematurely. Conclusions A single subconjunctival aflibercept injection seems to be well tolerated. Results The mean changes in AL in the first and second years of treatment were 0.30±0.21 and 0.28±0.20 mm, respectively, in the 0.02% atropine group and 0.16±0.20 and 0.20±0.16 mm, respectively, in the orthokeratology group. Axial length elongations after 2 years of treatment were 0.58±0.35 and 0.36±0.30 mm (P=0.007) in the 0.02% atropine and orthokeratology groups, respectively. Multivariate regression analyses showed that the AL elongation was significantly faster in the 0.02% atropine group than in the orthokeratology group (β=0.18, P=0.009). In multivariate regression analyses, younger age and shorter baseline AL were associated with a rapid AL elongation in the 0.

  • With the rapid increase in the number of sequenced prokaryotic genomes, relying on automated gene annotation became a necessity. In consequence, riboproteogenomic pipelines were proposed to comprehensively capture proteoform expression in prokaryotes by the complementary use of (positional) proteomics and the direct readout of translated genomic regions using ribosome profiling. To complement these discoveries, tailored strategies are required for the functional characterization of newly discovered bacterial proteoforms.Objectives To evaluate the efficacy and safety of ixazomib in the treatment of multiple myeloma. Methods A total of 43 patients with multiple myeloma were given ixazomib-based chemotherapy, including 16 patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM group), 27 patients newly diagnosed multiple myeloma with serious adverse events initially treated with bortezomib (conversion treatment group). Single ixazomib or ixazomib-based 2- or 3-medicine regimens combined with dexamethasone and lenalidomide or thalidomide or cyclophosphamide were performed, and then the response and safety were assessed. Results The overall response rate (ORR) was 56.25%, and the rate of very good partial response (VGPR) was 18.75% in the RRMM group. Most effective patients were those with long-term recurrence. The ORR was 88.89% in the conversion treatment group, which was further improved compared with the ORR of 81.48% before the conversion, among which 59.26% had a further remission. The main adverse events included thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, diarrhea, asthenia, rash, joint pain, etc. Conclusions Lxazomib is effective in treating the patients with later recurrence and the patients with serious adverse events initially treated with bortezomib. Lxazomib may not be effective in patients with recent relapse after bortezomib treatment. The aim of the current study was to determine whether mitochondrial complexes could be specifically delivered to the livers of living rats by intravenous injection. Methods Mitochondria were harvested from fresh mouse liver, mixed with an asialoglycoprotein-based carrier, asialoorosomucoid-polylysine (AsOR-PL), and purified to form complexes. To facilitate release of internalized mitochondria from endosomes, an endosomolytic peptide, listeriolysin O (LLO) was coupled to AsOR to form AsOR-LLO. Mitochondria alone, mitochondrial complexes with AsOR-PL, and mitochondrial complexes plus AsOR-LLO conjugate all containing the same number of mitochondria were injected intravenously. Animals were sacrificed, and organs removed and analyzed by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) of mouse mitochondrial DNA, electron microscopy (EM), and in situ PCR and hybridization followed by immunohistochemical analyses. Results Calculations revealed that approximately 27% of the total injected mitochondria was detected in liver, while less than 2% was found in spleen, and less then 1% in lungs. Immunohistochemistry showed that mouse mitochondrial DNA staining was minimal with mitochondrial complexes alone, strong periportal with mitochondrial complexes co-injected with AsOR-LLO, and absent with mitochondria alone. However, considering emerging antimicrobial resistance, the significant potential of miramistin justifies its re-evaluation for use in other geographical areas and conditions. The review consists of two parts 1) a review of the existing literature on miramistin in English, Russian, and Ukrainian languages; 2) a summary of most commonly used antiseptics as comparators of miramistin. The oral LD50 was 1200 mg/kg, 1000 mg/kg and 100 g/L in rats, **** and fish respectively. Based on the results of the review, we suggest possible applications of miramistin and potential benefits over currently used agents. Miramistin offers a novel, low toxicity antiseptic with many potential clinical uses that need better study which could address some of the negative impact of antimicrobial, antiseptic and disinfectant resistance.

The ice nucleation usually requires active sites in the aerosols in order to act as ice nuclei (IN). In this study, HIN and probable active sites of the graphene-graphene oxide nanoparticles (GGON), obtained from graphite oxide by low temperature thermal shock (LTTS), were investigated. Characteristics and size distribution of the GGON were identified using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and image processing of the results, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectra and X-ray diffraction (XRD) of their sheets. The FTIR spectra indicate stronger carbon-oxygen bonds in the samples obtained by LTTS. In addition, maximum size distribution of the GGON was ranged around 160-180 nm. After introducing these particles in the cloud chamber, HIN has occurred and ice crystals were formed. Size distribution of crystals were obtained from image processing of the plates, where covered by a thin layer of Formvar, showed the number of ice crystals in the GGON were increased as temperature increased from -20 °C to -10 °C. In addition, two possible mechanisms of asymmetry and deformation in ice crystals of the GGON were described.The stoichiometric photocatalytic reaction of CO2 with H2O is one of the great challenges in photocatalysis. Here, we construct a Cu2O-Pt/SiC/IrOx composite by a controlled photodeposition and then an artificial photosynthetic system with Nafion membrane as diaphragm separating reduction and oxidation half-reactions. The artificial system exhibits excellent photocatalytic performance for CO2 reduction to HCOOH and H2O oxidation to O2 under visible light irradiation. The yields of HCOOH and O2 meet almost stoichiometric ratio and are as high as 896.7 and 440.7 μmol g-1 h-1, respectively. The high efficiencies of CO2 reduction and H2O oxidation in the artificial system are attributed to both the direct Z-scheme electronic structure of Cu2O-Pt/SiC/IrOx and the indirect Z-scheme spatially separated reduction and oxidation units, which greatly prolong lifetime of photogenerated electrons and holes and prevent the backward reaction of products. The HR of any infection was highest in primary myelofibrosis 3.7 (3.2-4.1), and significantly elevated in all MPN subtypes; 1.7 (1.6-1.8) in polycythemia vera and 1.7 (1.5-1.8) in essential thrombocythemia. There was no significant difference in risk of infections between untreated patients and patients treated with hydroxyurea or interferon-α during the years 2006-2013. These novel findings of an overall increased risk of infections in MPN patients, irrespective of common cytoreductive treatments, suggest the increased risk of infection is inherent to the MPN.CPX-351 is a liposomal formulation of cytarabine/daunorubicin with a 51 fixed molar ratio. We investigated the safety and efficacy of escalating doses of CPX-351 in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) at high risk of induction mortality with standard chemotherapy determined through assessment of leukemia and patient-related risk factors for intensive chemotherapy in an open-label, phase II trial. Patients were randomized to receive 50 or 75 units/m2 on days 1, 3, and 5. Once safety was established, a 100 units/m2 arm was opened. Fifty-six patients were enrolled, 16, 24, and 16 in the 50, 75, and 100 units/m2 arms, respectively. The composite complete remission rate (complete remission + complete remission with incomplete blood count recovery) was lowest with 50 units/m2 (19%) compared with 75 units/m2 (38%) and 100 units/m2 (44%) (P = 0.35). The 50 units/m2 arm had a median OS of 4.3 months, compared with 8.6 and 6.2 months for the 75 and 100 units/m2 respectively (P = 0.04). The ice nucleation usually requires active sites in the aerosols in order to act as ice nuclei (IN). In this study, HIN and probable active sites of the graphene-graphene oxide nanoparticles (GGON), obtained from graphite oxide by low temperature thermal shock (LTTS), were investigated. Characteristics and size distribution of the GGON were identified using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and image processing of the results, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectra and X-ray diffraction (XRD) of their sheets. The FTIR spectra indicate stronger carbon-oxygen bonds in the samples obtained by LTTS. In addition, maximum size distribution of the GGON was ranged around 160-180 nm. After introducing these particles in the cloud chamber, HIN has occurred and ice crystals were formed. Size distribution of crystals were obtained from image processing of the plates, where covered by a thin layer of Formvar, showed the number of ice crystals in the GGON were increased as temperature increased from -20 °C to -10 °C. The artificial system exhibits excellent photocatalytic performance for CO2 reduction to HCOOH and H2O oxidation to O2 under visible light irradiation. Haploblocks were constructed for all markers and these five genomic classes by defining a biologically functional unit, and haplotype effects were modeled in both numerical dosage and categorical coding strategies. The first-order epistatic effects among SNPs and haplotypes were modeled using a categorical epistasis model. For all makers, the extension from the SNP-based model to a haplotype-based model improved the accuracy by 5.4-9.8% for carcass weight (CW), live weight (LW), and striploin (SI). For the five genomic classes using the haplotype-based prediction model, the incorporation of gene class information into the model improved the accuracies by an average of 1.4, 2.1, and 1.3% for CW, LW, and SI, respectively, compared with their corresponding results for all markers. Including the first-order epistatic effects into the prediction models improved the accuracies in some traits and genomic classes. To overcome this inconvenience, we have created a database containing analysis-ready information about non-coding and coding L. luteus RNA sequences (LuluDB). LuluDB was created on the basis of RNA-Seq analysis of small RNA, transcriptome, and degradome libraries obtained from yellow lupine cv. Taper flowers, pod walls, and seeds in various stages of development, flower pedicels, and pods undergoing abscission or maintained on the plant. It contains sequences of miRNAs and phased siRNAs identified in L. luteus, information about their expression in individual samples, and their target sequences. LuluDB also contains identified lncRNAs and protein-coding RNA sequences with their organ expression and annotations to widely used databases like GO, KEGG, NCBI, Rfam, Pfam, etc. The database also provides sequence homology search by BLAST using, e.g., an unknown sequence as a query. To present the full capabilities offered by our database, we performed a case study concerning transcripts annotated as DCL 1-4 (DICER LIKE 1-4) homologs involved in small non-coding RNA biogenesis and identified miRNAs that most likely regulate DCL1 and DCL2 expression in yellow lupine. Although many existing methods have dealt with some of these artifacts by designing their own strategies, there is still a lack of comprehensive consideration of all the factors. In this paper, we propose a new method, MFCNV, for an accurate detection of CNVs from NGS data. Compared with existing methods, the characteristics of the proposed method include the following (1) it makes a full consideration of the intrinsic correlations among adjacent positions in the genome to be analyzed, (2) it calculates read depth, GC-content bias, base quality, and correlation value for each genome bin and combines them as multiple features for the evaluation of genome bins, and (3) it addresses the joint effect among the factors via training a neural network algorithm for the prediction of CNVs.

  • We developed a simple, interactive poster design. Via brief infographics and simple numbered stickers, participants were able to provide input about their top three areas of importance regarding a specific topic (i.e., promoting natural behavior in goats). The tool was utilized in three scenarios-an international conference, a regional veterinary conference, and a regional school leadership day. After a short discussion with the presenter, participants ranked their top three areas of importance. Response rates ranged from 22% to 100%. The data collection performed was intended to demonstrate a proof-of-concept of the poster design; therefore, comparisons across tested cohorts were not made. However, we showed that when applied in different settings, the poster gathered some consistent opinions on which behaviors are the best exemplars of naturalness in goats. Response bias, from opting for socially desirable responses, as well as sampling bias from using the tool at specific conferences or with specific demographics, could be an issue. Nonetheless, these are not unique concerns, and we suggest that corrections used in focus groups could alleviate these biases. The flexibility of this interactive tool, and its capability to shift the audience from viewing to participating in research presents a novel alternative to traditional poster presentations.Although around 80% of endometrial cancers are diagnosed at early stages and present with a 5-year survival rate exceeding 95%, patients with advanced and recurrent disease show a poor prognosis and low response rates to standard chemotherapy. This use exerts selection pressure on pathogen populations with the development of resistance and the exchange of resistance genes. While the exact scale of AMR in Vietnam remains uncertain, recent studies suggest that it is a major issue in both human and animal health. This study explored antimicrobial use behaviors in 36 pig farms in the Nam Dinh Province (North) and the Dong Nai Province (South) of Vietnam (with a median of 5.5 breeding sows and 41 fattening pigs). It also estimated the economic costs and benefits of use for the producer. Data were collected through a structured face-to-face interview with additional productivity data collected by farmers during a six-week period following the initial interview. Overall, antimicrobial use was high across the farms; however, in-feed antimicrobial use is likely to be under-reported due to misleading and imprecise labelling on premixed commercial feeds. An economic analysis found that the cost of antimicrobials was low relative to other farm inputs (~2% of total costs), and that farm profitability was precariously balanced, with high disease and poor prices leading to negative and low profits. However, most studies have been carried out on young participants, while the electrophysiological (EEG) correlates of DR in older people are still mostly unknown. We aimed to test the activation hypothesis on 20 elders, focusing on the Non-Rapid Eye Movement (NREM) sleep stage. All the subjects underwent polysomnography, and a dream report was collected upon their awakening from NREM sleep. Nine subjects were recallers (RECs) and 11 were non-RECs (NRECs). The delta and beta EEG activity of the last 5 min and the total NREM sleep was calculated by Fast Fourier Transform. Statistical comparisons (RECs vs. NRECs) revealed no differences in the last 5 min of sleep. Significant differences were found in the total NREM sleep the RECs showed lower delta power over the parietal areas than the NRECs. Consistently, statistical comparisons on the activation index (delta/beta power) revealed that RECs showed a higher level of arousal in the fronto-temporal and parieto-occipital regions than NRECs.

Via brief infographics and simple numbered stickers, participants were able to provide input about their top three areas of importance regarding a specific topic (i.e., promoting natural behavior in goats). The tool was utilized in three scenarios-an international conference, a regional veterinary conference, and a regional school leadership day. After a short discussion with the presenter, participants ranked their top three areas of importance. Response rates ranged from 22% to 100%. The data collection performed was intended to demonstrate a proof-of-concept of the poster design; therefore, comparisons across tested cohorts were not made. However, we showed that when applied in different settings, the poster gathered some consistent opinions on which behaviors are the best exemplars of naturalness in goats. Response bias, from opting for socially desirable responses, as well as sampling bias from using the tool at specific conferences or with specific demographics, could be an issue. Nonetheless, these are not unique concerns, and we suggest that corrections used in focus groups could alleviate these biases. The flexibility of this interactive tool, and its capability to shift the audience from viewing to participating in research presents a novel alternative to traditional poster presentations.Although around 80% of endometrial cancers are diagnosed at early stages and present with a 5-year survival rate exceeding 95%, patients with advanced and recurrent disease show a poor prognosis and low response rates to standard chemotherapy. This use exerts selection pressure on pathogen populations with the development of resistance and the exchange of resistance genes. While the exact scale of AMR in Vietnam remains uncertain, recent studies suggest that it is a major issue in both human and animal health. This study explored antimicrobial use behaviors in 36 pig farms in the Nam Dinh Province (North) and the Dong Nai Province (South) of Vietnam (with a median of 5.5 breeding sows and 41 fattening pigs). It also estimated the economic costs and benefits of use for the producer. Data were collected through a structured face-to-face interview with additional productivity data collected by farmers during a six-week period following the initial interview. Overall, antimicrobial use was high across the farms; however, in-feed antimicrobial use is likely to be under-reported due to misleading and imprecise labelling on premixed commercial feeds. An economic analysis found that the cost of antimicrobials was low relative to other farm inputs (~2% of total costs), and that farm profitability was precariously balanced, with high disease and poor prices leading to negative and low profits. In addition, the impact of diameter variation on the critical quality attributes of filaments (mechanical properties) and uniformity of mass of printed drug-free dosage forms was investigated. Process optimization by implementing a winder with a special haul-off unit was necessary to obtain reliable filament diameters. Subsequently, the optimized setup was used for conduction of rational extrusion analysis. The results revealed that an increased screw speed led to diameter fluctuations with a decisive influence on the mechanical resilience of filaments and mass uniformity of printed dosage forms. All the subjects underwent polysomnography, and a dream report was collected upon their awakening from NREM sleep. Nine subjects were recallers (RECs) and 11 were non-RECs (NRECs). The delta and beta EEG activity of the last 5 min and the total NREM sleep was calculated by Fast Fourier Transform. Statistical comparisons (RECs vs. NRECs) revealed no differences in the last 5 min of sleep. Significant differences were found in the total NREM sleep the RECs showed lower delta power over the parietal areas than the NRECs. Consistently, statistical comparisons on the activation index (delta/beta power) revealed that RECs showed a higher level of arousal in the fronto-temporal and parieto-occipital regions than NRECs.

We then re-analyzed a skin and tongue wound healing microarray dataset to see how expression levels of tight junction genes change over time in response to injury. We performed in vitro scratch assays on human oral and skin keratinocyte cell lines to assay for tight junction expression over time, tight junction expression in response to lipopolysaccharide and histamine treatment, and the effects of siRNA knockdown of claudin 1 or occludin on migration and proliferation. Our data showed that oral and skin epithelium expressed different tight junction genes at baseline and during the wound healing response. Knockdown of claudin 1 or occludin led to changes in proliferation and migration in human skin keratinocytes but not oral keratinocytes. Furthermore, we also showed that skin keratinocytes were more permeable than oral keratinocytes upon histamine treatment. The relative standard deviation obtained for Te isotope ratio measurement by Faraday cups of 120Te/128Te [0.002907(05)], 122Te/128Te [0.079646(10)], 123Te/128Te [0.027850(07)], 125Te/128Te [0.221988(09)], 126Te/128Te [0.592202(20)], and 130Te/128Te [1.076277(30)] were 0.140%, 0.014%, 0.026%, 0.005%, 0.004%, and 0.004%, respectively. The measured isotope ratio results are compared with previous results obtained by thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS), negative thermal ionization mass spectrometry (N-TIMS), and **-ICP-MS, showing an improvement in the precision about one order of magnitude for 120Te/128Te ratio. In radiobiology, the mechanisms underlying treatment efficiency, possible resistance mechanisms, and late side effect occurrence are still far from being understood and need to be unraveled. In this review, the current knowledge on the scientific and clinical background of targeted alpha therapies is summarized. Furthermore, open issues and novel approaches with a focus on the future perspective are discussed.

  • This study explores child health care nurses' pedagogical knowledge when supporting parents in their parenthood using various teaching practices, that is how to organise and process the content during parent education groups in primary health care. The aim is to identify teaching practices used by child health care nurses and to analyse such practices with regard to Aristotle's three forms of knowledge to comprehensively examine child health care nurses' use of knowledge in practice. A qualitative methodological design alongside the analysis of video-recordings was used. The results showed that child health care nurses used four teaching practices lecturing, demonstration, conversation and supervision. Their use of episteme was prominent, but they also seemed to master techne in combination with episteme during the first three teaching practices. During the conversation teaching practice, the child health nurses rarely succeeded. Consequently, they missed opportunities to identify mothers' expressed concerns and to act in the best interests of both the mothers and their infants by the use of phronesis. In health care, however, theoretical episteme is superordinate to productive knowledge or phronesis, which also became evident in this study. Nevertheless, more interactive pedagogical practices are needed if more use of phronesis is to become a reality in parent education groups.Importance Indigenous communities of Far North Queensland (FNQ) have one of the highest incidences of alcohol-related ocular trauma globally. Background To review the epidemiology of closed- and open-globe trauma admitted to Cairns Hospital from FNQ health districts following the implementation of alcohol restrictions in Indigenous communities. Design Retrospective study of cases from January 2014 to December 2018. Participants A total of 142 cases identified from ICD-10 clinical-coding data. Methods Records were reviewed to determine demographics, clinical details and outcomes. Main outcome measures Annual incidence by demography and ethnicity (Indigenous vs non-indigenous). Results Estimated annual incidence was 10.4/100000 population (Open-globe 3.6/100000, Closed-globe 6.8/100000 population). Incidence rate ratio was 2.8x higher in Indigenous (22.8/100000 population) compared to non-indigenous populations. Injury from assault was 8.2x higher in the Indigenous population. Alcohol was involved in 76% of assaults. Paediatric injuries comprised 20.4% of the cohort, with Indigenous children over-represented (44.8% of children). Visual acuity (VA) at presentation ranged from -0.08logMAR to No-Perception of Light (NPL), with 41.8% poorer than +1.00logMAR. Final VA ranged from -0.18logMAR to NPL. Mean final VA was significantly better for closed- than open-globe injuries (+0.43 vs +1.01logMAR). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/sf1670.html Ruptures had the poorest outcomes (mean + 1.65logMAR). We aimed to describe and evaluate methods for graphically assessing the calibration of survival models. We focus on hazard regression models and restricted cubic splines in conjunction with a Cox proportional hazards model. We also describe modifications of the Integrated Calibration Index, of E50 and of E90. In this context, this is the average (respectively, median or 90th percentile) absolute difference between predicted survival probabilities and smoothed survival frequencies. We conducted a series of Monte Carlo simulations to evaluate the performance of these calibration measures when the underlying model has been correctly specified and under different types of model mis-specification. We illustrate the utility of calibration curves and the three calibration metrics by using them to compare the calibration of a Cox proportional hazards regression model with that of a random survival forest for predicting mortality in patients hospitalized with heart failure. Under a correctly specified regression model, differences between the two methods for constructing calibration curves were minimal, although the performance of the method based on restricted cubic splines tended to be slightly better. In contrast, under a mis-specified model, the smoothed calibration curved constructed using hazard regression tended to be closer to the true calibration curve. The use of calibration curves and of these numeric calibration metrics permits for a comprehensive comparison of the calibration of competing survival models.Fast and precise localization of ischemic tissues in the myocardium after an acute infarct is required by clinicians as the first step toward accurate and efficient treatment. Nowadays, diagnosis of a heart attack at early times is based on biochemical blood analysis (detection of cardiac enzymes) or by ultrasound-assisted imaging. Alternative approaches are investigated to overcome the limitations of these classical techniques (time-consuming procedures or low spatial resolution). As occurs in many other fields of biomedicine, cardiological preclinical imaging can also benefit from the fast development of nanotechnology. Indeed, bio-functionalized near-infrared-emitting nanoparticles are herein used for in vivo imaging of the heart after an acute myocardial infarct. Taking advantage of the superior acquisition speed of near-infrared fluorescence imaging, and of the efficient selective targeting of the near-infrared-emitting nanoparticles, in vivo images of the infarcted heart are obtained only a few minutes after the acute infarction event. This work opens an avenue toward cost-effective, fast, and accurate in vivo imaging of the ischemic myocardium after an acute infarct.

Under a correctly specified regression model, differences between the two methods for constructing calibration curves were minimal, although the performance of the method based on restricted cubic splines tended to be slightly better. In contrast, under a mis-specified model, the smoothed calibration curved constructed using hazard regression tended to be closer to the true calibration curve. The use of calibration curves and of these numeric calibration metrics permits for a comprehensive comparison of the calibration of competing survival models.Fast and precise localization of ischemic tissues in the myocardium after an acute infarct is required by clinicians as the first step toward accurate and efficient treatment. Nowadays, diagnosis of a heart attack at early times is based on biochemical blood analysis (detection of cardiac enzymes) or by ultrasound-assisted imaging. Alternative approaches are investigated to overcome the limitations of these classical techniques (time-consuming procedures or low spatial resolution). As occurs in many other fields of biomedicine, cardiological preclinical imaging can also benefit from the fast development of nanotechnology. Indeed, bio-functionalized near-infrared-emitting nanoparticles are herein used for in vivo imaging of the heart after an acute myocardial infarct. Taking advantage of the superior acquisition speed of near-infrared fluorescence imaging, and of the efficient selective targeting of the near-infrared-emitting nanoparticles, in vivo images of the infarcted heart are obtained only a few minutes after the acute infarction event. This work opens an avenue toward cost-effective, fast, and accurate in vivo imaging of the ischemic myocardium after an acute infarct.

Of the 341 patients contacted, 40 responded (11.7%), and 39 patients were eligible. A total of 77% of respondents acknowledged receiving the PIB, of which, 93% reported reading it. Knowledge of the individual side effects ranged from 36% to 85%, and precautions for use ranged from 56% to 67%. Understanding the reasons for calling a physician ranged from 54% to 85%. Knowledge of each of the 6 key side effects was greater among readers of the PIB compared to non-readers or respondents who did not recall receiving the PIB. Approximately three-quarters of survey respondents recalled receiving the crizotinib PIB and respondents who read the PIB were more knowledgeable of the key side effects of crizotinib than those who did not read or receive. Caution should be taken in generalizing these results because of the potential for selection bias and small sample size. Therefore, this study attempts to clarify the theoretical directionality between helping and emotional exhaustion using four waves of data collected at six-month intervals. Autoregressive cross-lagged analyses with auto-correlations revealed that more helping was associated with less future emotional exhaustion from Wave 1 to Wave 2, but from Wave 2 to Wave 3, the directionality reversed, as less emotional exhaustion significantly predicted more future helping, and from Wave 3 to Wave 4, both prediction directions were no longer significant. We previously developed a quantification method based on strong alkaline hydrolysis followed by High Performance Anion Exchange Chromatography-Pulsed Amperometric Detection analysis, but with low sensitivity and use for quantification of an unknown product coming from polysaccharide depolymerization. Here we describe the development of a method for Vi polysaccharide quantification based on acid hydrolysis with concomitant use of trifluoroacetic and hydrochloric acids. A Design of Experiment approach was used for the identification of the optimal hydrolysis conditions. The method is 100-fold more sensitive than the previous one, and specifically, resulting in the formation of a known product, confirmed to be the Vi monomer both de-O- and de-N-acetylated by mono- and bidimensional Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. Accuracy and precision were determined, and chromatographic conditions were improved to result in reduced time of analysis. This method will facilitate characterization of Vi-based vaccines. Controlled by the specific angularity and geometry of tetraphenylethene (with 60o and 120o) and difunctional Pt(II) linker (with 180o), these supramolecular coordination frameworks possess a well-defined and two-dimensional (2D) rhombic network-type topology with well periodicity and porosity. Given the aggregation-induced emission (AIE) property of tetraphenylethene units and the porosity of frameworks, 1a-1b have been successfully used as fluorescent platforms and energy donors to fabricate efficient artificial light-harvesting materials with two fluorescent acceptors (Nile Red and Sulforhodamine 101) via noncovalent interactions in aqueous solution. Furthermore, these light-harvesting materials have been applied for promoting cancer cell imaging with a full shift of imaging channels from blue/green channels to red channel. Thus, this study provides an effective approach to fabricate functional frameworks as fluorescent platforms for developing more fluorescent materials.In this work, we report the design of a two-dimensional (2D) isostructural metal-organic framework containing Pd(II) active sites, using a bipyridyl dicarboxylate linker (Mg(bpdc)(DMF)2PdCl2]n (Pd@MgJMS-2) and [Mn(bpdc)(DMF)2PdCl2]n(Pd@MnJMS-2)). The activated MOFs Pd@MgJMS-2a and Pd@MnJMS-2a were evaluated as heterogeneous catalysts for the hydrogenation of carbon dioxide (CO2) to formate. Under optimal conditions, the MOFs exhibited impressive catalytic activity with formate turnover numbers of 7272 and 9808 for Pd@MgJMS-2a and Pd@MnJMS-2a, respectively, after 24 h. These catalysts exhibited higher catalytic activity when compared to its homogeneous counterpart that was used as a linker during MOF synthesis. Post-experimental characterization showed that the structural integrity of the MOFs was not altered after catalysis. This work demonstrates that the catalytic activity of homogeneous systems can be enhanced under heterogeneous conditions by anchoring them on MOFs.

  • The results of the cell model were basically the same as those in vivo. Compared with the control group, the expression of α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) was increased, indicating that HSC differentiated into myofibroblasts in HG group. The expression of the main components of ECM (CO 1 and CO 3), and the key enzyme of ECM degradation (MMP9) were also increased, while CaSR inhibitor, Calhex231, could reduce the above changes. Moreover, the scheme for constructing non-point source pollution models applied to semi-arid and semi-humid areas was put forward. Finally, we discussed the development trend of non-point source pollution models.Plant diversity monitoring is an essential basis for plant conservation and policy making, and is critical to the sustainable use and protection of biological resources. We reviewed the research progress on plant diversity monitoring, and proposed further research direction. Plant diversity monitoring is developing rapidly at a new situation, and enters a new era referring to intelligent, integration of macroscopic and microscopic, networked monitoring, big data, large-scale, multidisciplinary, all-dimensional, from species level to family level, community level or ecosystem level, and even the global level. The construction of biodiversity monitoring network promotes the uniform of essential biodiversity variables and networked monitoring. Internet information and database had become a main data source of plant diversity. There are many new challenges in plant diversity monitoring, including standardization, effective utilization and sharing of the monitoring data, as well as the monitoring for genetic diversity and individuals. Ecological monitoring would be large-scale, automated and standardized. Many things should be addressed in further research, including to improve the monitoring networks, to find innovative ways and build new models, to carry out monitoring at hotspots and give priority to important species as well as community or even larger scale, to pay more attention to the background investigation of plant resource.The relative importance index (IRI), mean crowding, niche breadth, and niche overlap (Qik) of major fish species were calculated based on two fishery resource surveys from April to May 2016 (spring) in the coastal waters of central and southern Zhejiang Province. The results showed that there were 24 major fish species (IRI100), the niche breadth values of which differed greatly and were positively correlated with IRI. The niche overlaps of fishes were extremely low in spring. The total amount of species pairs with niche overlap 0.6 (Qik 0.6) were six in April and five in May, which represented 3.9% and 4.8% of the total pairs, respectively. Results from the redundancy analysis showed that the distribution of major fish species were mainly affected by temperature, salinity, water depth, and dissolved oxygen, which caused ecological differentiation of fish species.Tibetan red deer (Cervus wallichii) is an endemic species to China, which was once considered extinct in the wild. As there are several other wild ungulates and domestic animals with similar feeding habits within its habitat range, it's thus essential to study interspecific competition and co-existence between Tibetan red deer and other cohabiting ungulates in the highly unique environment of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Using microscopic analysis on fresh fecal samples collected in Sangri Tibetan Red Deer Nature Reserve from August to September in 2013 and 2014, the trophic niche width and overlap index were calculated on the basis of diet composition of C. wallichii, Cervus albirostris, Procapra picticaudata, Bos mutus and Capra hircas in green grass period. We analyzed and compared the overlap and differentiation of feeding habits between Tibetan red deer and other wild ungulates and domestic animals. The results showed that C. wallichii fed on similar edible plants with other species, but differed in proportionand C. hircas (16.0%)). Food overlap indices between C. wallichii and the other ungulates were all higher than 0.5, and the highest with B. mutus (0.65). The food diversity index (1.32), evenness index (0.37) and niche width index (15.79) of C. wallichii were all at high values. Compared with the results from 2007 to 2008, dietary composition of Tibetan red deer changed greatly as the proportion of Leguminosae increased while that of Cyperaceae decreased, resulting in improvement of food quality. In addition, there was greater competition of food resources between C. wallichii and domestic animals, which would further affect the distribution range and living space of C. wallichii.

  • Background Myocardial scarring is associated with non-response to cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) and conduction delay. Little is known about the significance and cause of left ventricular (LV) paced conduction disturbance (LPCD). Objective The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical impact of paced interlead electrical delay and the difference in each conduction time from LV pace to right ventricular (RV) sense (LVp-RVs) and from RV pace to LV sense (RVp-LVs) [(LVp-RVs) - (RVp-LVs)], in CRT. Methods Among 137 patients who underwent CRT implantation, LVp-RVs and RVp-LVs were measured intraoperatively. The relationships between [(LVp-RVs) - (RVp-LVs)] and perfusion defects on myocardial perfusion single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging or [(LVp-RVs) - (RVp-LVs)] and clinical outcomes were also assessed. Results After CRT implantation, 81 patients (59%) responded to CRT. [(LVp-RVs) - (RVp-LVs)] was significantly longer in non-responders than in responders (9.7±47.3 vs. -4.5±33.2 ms, p=0.042). Patients with LPCD [(LVp-RVs) > (RVp-LVs)] had higher perfusion defects in the anterolateral region (2.7±2.7 vs. 1.1±1.6, p=0.0015) on SPECT. Multivariate analysis showed that LPCD was the independent predictor of non-response to CRT (odds ratio 0.40 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.17-0.90], p=0.026). During a median follow-up of 2.3 years (interquartile range 1.3-5.5), LPCD was the independent predictor of cardiac death and/or heart failure hospitalization in multivariate analysis (hazard ratio 1.82, 95%CI 1.11-3.03, p=0.018). Conclusions The LPCD could predict non-response to CRT and poor outcome. Objective To validate the "double balloon" approach to enhance ethanol delivery in cases of unfavorable venous anatomy. Methods Eight patients referred after failed ablations (LV summit, n=3, scar related ventricular tachycardia, VT n=5) underwent endocardial mapping and additional radiofrequency ablation without VA resolution. Coronary veins were mapped using a multipolar catheter or wire, and selective venograms were obtained. The double balloon was used when 1. Distal collateral branches shunted flow away from the targeted region, 2. The target vein had optimal signals only proximally, or 3. A large vein was targeted with multiple branches for a large area of interest. Results Acute successful ethanol infusion myocardial delivery and resolution of VA was accomplished utilizing the following veins the posterolateral LV veins (n=2 patients, 3 procedures), lateral LV vein (n=1), the apical anterior interventricular vein (AIV, n=1), the middle cardiac vein (MCV, n=1) and septal branches of the AIV (n=3). Results Of the 118 studies included in the review, 48% used more than one source of information when finding outcome measurement instruments, and 74% performed some form of quality assessment of the measurement instruments. Twenty-three studies recommended one single instrument for each core outcome included in the COS. Clinical experts and public representatives were involved in selecting instruments in 62% and 28% of studies, respectively. Conclusion Methods used to select outcome measurement instruments have improved since the publication of the COSMIN/COMET guideline. Going forward, COS developers should ensure that recommended outcome measurement instruments have sufficient content validity. Out of the 28 cases studied, 26 cases were secondary lymphedema and 2 were primary lymphedema. There were 7 upper limb cases and 21 lower-limb cases. The mean length of hospital stay was 12 days (7-14 days). We performed a multisite LVA in all 28 patients. The mean number of anastomoses in each case (the side with the most edema for bilateral cases) was 3.96 (2-6). During hospitalization, lymphatic therapists who were familiar with complex physical therapy for lymphedema were trained to provide total care for lymphedema.
