    To evaluate the outcome events and bleeding complications of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) guideline-matched oral anticoagulant therapy for patients with acute ischemic stroke and atrial fibrillation (AF).

    Patients with acute ischemic stroke and AF from a nationwide multicenter registry (Korean ATrial fibrillaTion EvaluatioN regisTry in Ischemic strOke patieNts [K-ATTENTION]) between January 2013 and December 2015 were included in the study. Patients were divided into the ESC guideline-matched and the non-matched groups. The primary outcome was recurrence of any stroke during the 90-day follow-up period. Secondary outcomes were major adverse cerebrovascular and cardiovascular events, ischemic stroke, intracranial hemorrhage, acute coronary syndrome, allcause mortality, and major hemorrhage.     Among 2,321 eligible patients, 1,126 patients were 11 matched to the ESC guidelinematched and the non-matched groups.     We compared the effect of anesthesia regimen using data from the German Stroke Registry-Endovascular Treatment (GSR-ET) between June 2015 and December 2019. New evidence was introduced about nurses practicing outside their usual role. Nurses and other healthcare providers consistently reported increased anxiety during the pandemic. A cross-sectional series of 176 tissue samples of anal cancer, AIN3, AIN2, AIN1 and control biopsies obtained in HIV-negative women and men was tested for six methylation markers (ASCL1, LHX8, SST, WDR17, ZIC1 and ZNF582). Accuracy for detection of AIN3 and cancer (AIN3+) was determined by univariable and multivariable mixed-effect ordinal logistic regression. Methylation levels of all markers increased with increasing severity of disease (P less then 0.0001) and were comparable to results in HIV+ MSM. All markers showed high accuracy for AIN3+ detection [area under the curve (AUC) 0.83-0.86]. The optimal marker panel (ASCL1 and ZIC1; AUC = 0.85 for AIN3+) detected 98% of cancers at 79% specificity.     To assess the effects of postural lung recruitment maneuvers on the postoperative atelectasis assessed by lung ultrasound (LUS) compared with supine position recruitment maneuvers in children undergoing right lateral thoracotomy cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass.

    In this randomized and controlled trial, 84 patients aged 3 years or younger, scheduled for right lateral thoracotomy cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) were randomly allocated to postural lung recruitment group or control group. The first LUS exam was performed immediately upon completion of the cardiac surgery (T1), and a repeat ultrasound exam started 1 min after lung recruitment maneuvers (T2). The primary outcome was the incidence of significant atelectasis at T2.

    The incidence of significant atelectasis at T2 in the postural lung recruitment maneuver group was lower compared with that in the control group (30.2% vs. 58.1%; odds ratio 0.31; 95% confidence interval 0.13-0.76; p = .009). Accuracy for detection of AIN3 and cancer (AIN3+) was determined by univariable and multivariable mixed-effect ordinal logistic regression. Methylation levels of all markers increased with increasing severity of disease (P less then 0.0001) and were comparable to results in HIV+ MSM. All markers showed high accuracy for AIN3+ detection [area under the curve (AUC) 0.83-0.86]. The optimal marker panel (ASCL1 and ZIC1; AUC = 0.85 for AIN3+) detected 98% of cancers at 79% specificity. In conclusion, DNA methylation markers show a high diagnostic performance for AIN3+ detection in HIV+ and HIV-negative risk groups, justifying broad application of methylation analysis for anal cancer prevention programmes.
    To assess the effects of postural lung recruitment maneuvers on the postoperative atelectasis assessed by lung ultrasound (LUS) compared with supine position recruitment maneuvers in children undergoing right lateral thoracotomy cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass.

    In this randomized and controlled trial, 84 patients aged 3 years or younger, scheduled for right lateral thoracotomy cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) were randomly allocated to postural lung recruitment group or control group. The first LUS exam was performed immediately upon completion of the cardiac surgery (T1), and a repeat ultrasound exam started 1 min after lung recruitment maneuvers (T2). The primary outcome was the incidence of significant atelectasis at T2.

    The incidence of significant atelectasis at T2 in the postural lung recruitment maneuver group was lower compared with that in the control group (30.2% vs. 58.1%; odds ratio 0.31; 95% confidence interval 0.13-0.76; p = .009). The LUS scores for consolidations and B-lines of the left lung were higher than those of the right lung in both groups at T1.

    Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has become a global pandemic, and its incidence is increasing year by year. At present, there are no definite curative drugs for the treatment of NAFLD in modern medicine. Surprisingly, complementary and alternative therapies play an important role and have special advantages. In this study, we will adopt Bayesian network meta-analysis (NMA) to evaluate the efficiency and safety of complementary therapy and alternative therapies for NAFLD.

    We will collect randomized controlled trials (RCTs) related to the treatment of NAFLD in PubMed, Cochrane Library, CNKI, and other databases. Two reviewers will screen the literature and extract data in line with the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and then assess the risk of bias according to Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool. The Bayesian NMA will be performed by Stata16.0 and WinBUGS1.4.3.

    Our study will compare and rank the efficacy and safety of diverse complementary and alternative therapies for NAFLD.

    This study can provide credible evidence for the efficacy and safety of complementary therapies and alternative therapies in the treatment of NAFLD. We expect to assist clinicians and patients to choose the optimal therapeutic regimen.

    The quality control of fetal sonographic (FS) images is essential for the correct biometric measurements and fetal anomaly diagnosis. However, quality control requires professional sonographers to perform and is often labor-intensive. To solve this problem, we propose an automatic image quality assessment scheme based on multitask learning to assist in FS image quality control. An essential criterion for FS image quality control is that all the essential anatomical structures in the section should appear full and remarkable with a clear boundary. Therefore, our scheme aims to identify those essential anatomical structures to judge whether an FS image is the standard image, which is achieved by 3 convolutional neural networks. The Feature Extraction Network aims to extract deep level features of FS images. Based on the extracted features, the Class Prediction Network determines whether the structure meets the standard and Region Proposal Network identifies its position.     Hypertensive patients commonly co-exist persistent depressive symptoms. However, these issues are not always identified, especially in primary health care, which may worsen the prognosis of hypertension. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and risk factor of depression, and to develop risk nomogram of depression in hypertensive patients from primary health care Northwest China.We used a stratified multistage random sampling method to obtain 1856 hypertensives subjects aged ≥18 years in Xinjiang between April and October 2019. The subjects were randomly divided into a training set (n = 1299) and a validation set (n = 557). Depression was evaluated by Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), with a cut-off score ≥8. Using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression model, we identified optimized risk factors of depression in the training set, followed by the establishment of prediction nomogram. The discriminative ability, calibration, and clinical ypertensive subjects displayed depression. Seven independent risk factors of depression were identified and entered into the nomogram including age, region, ethnicity, marital status, physical activity, sleep quality, and control of hypertension. The nomogram displayed robust discrimination with an AUC of 0.760 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.724-0.797)] and 0.761 (95%CI 0.702-0.819), and good calibration in training set and validation set, respectively. At present, there are no definite curative drugs for the treatment of NAFLD in modern medicine. In this study, we will adopt Bayesian network meta-analysis (NMA) to evaluate the efficiency and safety of complementary therapy and alternative therapies for NAFLD. We will collect randomized controlled trials (RCTs) related to the treatment of NAFLD in PubMed, Cochrane Library, CNKI, and other databases. Two reviewers will screen the literature and extract data in line with the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and then assess the risk of bias according to Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool. The Bayesian NMA will be performed by Stata16.0 and WinBUGS1.4.3. Our study will compare and rank the efficacy and safety of diverse complementary and alternative therapies for NAFLD. This study can provide credible evidence for the efficacy and safety of complementary therapies and alternative therapies in the treatment of NAFLD. However, quality control requires professional sonographers to perform and is often labor-intensive. To solve this problem, we propose an automatic image quality assessment scheme based on multitask learning to assist in FS image quality control. An essential criterion for FS image quality control is that all the essential anatomical structures in the section should appear full and remarkable with a clear boundary. Therefore, our scheme aims to identify those essential anatomical structures to judge whether an FS image is the standard image, which is achieved by 3 convolutional neural networks. The Feature Extraction Network aims to extract deep level features of FS images. Based on the extracted features, the Class Prediction Network determines whether the structure meets the standard and Region Proposal Network identifies its position. The subjects were randomly divided into a training set (n = 1299) and a validation set (n = 557). Depression was evaluated by Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), with a cut-off score ≥8. Using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression model, we identified optimized risk factors of depression in the training set, followed by the establishment of prediction nomogram. The discriminative ability, calibration, and clinical ypertensive subjects displayed depression. Seven independent risk factors of depression were identified and entered into the nomogram including age, region, ethnicity, marital status, physical activity, sleep quality, and control of hypertension. The nomogram displayed robust discrimination with an AUC of 0.760 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.724-0.797)] and 0.761 (95%CI 0.702-0.819), and good calibration in training set and validation set, respectively.   • The cell-extracellular matrix (ECM) interactions are known to have a strong impact on cell behaviors in neural tissues. Due to complex physiology system and limited regenerative capacity of nervous system, neural tissue engineering has attracted attention as a promising strategy. In this study, we designed a hydrogel loaded by poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) microspheres containing carbon nanotubes (CNT) and the biochemical differentiation factors, as a scaffold, in order to replicate the neural niche for stem cell growth (and/or differentiation). Different formulations from Hyaluronic acid (H), Poloxamer (P), Ethoxy-silane-capped poloxamer (PE), and cross-linked Alginate (Alg) were utilized as an in situ gel structure matrix to mirror the mechanical properties of the ECM of CNS. Subsequently, conductivity, surface morphology, size of microspheres, and CNT dispersion in microsphere were measured using two probes electrical conductometer, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS)f induction factors was found to notably enhance the expression of Sox2-SYP and β-Tubulin III neuronal markers.Biomolecule carrier structures have attracted substantial interest owing to their potential utilizations in the field of bone tissue engineering. In this study, MOF-embedded electrospun fiber scaffold for the controlled release of BMP-6 was developed for the first time, to enrich bone regeneration efficacy. The scaffolds were achieved by first, one-pot rapid crystallization of BMP-6 encapsulated ZIF-8 nanocrystals-as a novel carrier for growth factor molecules- and then electrospinning of the blending solution composed of poly (ε-caprolactone) and BMP-6 encapsulated ZIF-8 nanocrystals. BMP-6 molecule encapsulation efficiency for ZIF-8 nanocrystals was calculated as 98%. The in-vitro studies showed that, the bioactivity of BMP-6 was preserved and the release lasted up to 30 days. The release kinetics fitted the Korsmeyer-Peppas model exhibiting a pseudo-Fickian behavior. The in-vitro osteogenesis studies revealed the superior effect of sustained release of BMP-6 towards osteogenic differentiation of MC3T3-E1 pre-osteoblasts. In-vivo studies also revealed that the sustained slow release of BMP-6 was responsible for the generation of well-mineralized, new bone formation in a rat cranial defect. Our results proved that; MOF-carriers embedded in electrospun scaffolds can be used as an effective platform for bone regeneration in bone tissue engineering applications. Cur-CSNPs were synthesized in two different concentrations of curcumin as Cur-CSNPs A and B. Characterization of the synthesized Cur-CSNPs revealed asymmetrical nanoparticles with semispherical geometry and a zeta potential ˃50 mV. HPLC studies substantiated encapsulation efficiencies of 77.53% and 80.35% for Cur-CSNPs A and B respectively. Herein, we engineered bi-modal contrast agents by integrating carbon nanotubes (CNT) and gold nanoparticles (AuNP) around silica microspheres using the Layer-by-Layer self-assembly method. The experimental studies revealed that microspheres with CNT sandwiched between AuNP exhibit strong absorption in the visible and NIR regions and high optoacoustic contrast (OA, also called photoacoustics) and Raman scattering when illuminated with 532 nm and 785 nm lasers, respectively. The developed microspheres demonstrated amplification of the signal in the OA flow cytometry at the laser wavelength of 1064 nm. This finding was further validated with ex vivo brain tissue using a portable Raman spectrometer and imaging with the Raster-scanning OA mesoscopy technique. The obtained data suggest that the developed contrast agents can be promising in applications of localization OA tomography (LOT), OA flow cytometry, and multiplex SERS detection.One of the main problems that remain in the implant industry is poor osseointegration due to bioinertness of implants. In order to promote bioactivity, calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P) and strontium (Sr) were incorporated into a TiO2 porous layer produced by micro-arc oxidation. Ca and P as bioactive elements are already well reported in the literature, however, the knowledge of the effect of Sr is still limited. In the present work, the effect of various amounts of Sr was evaluated and the morphology, chemical composition and crystal structure of the oxide layer were investigated. Furthermore, in vitro studies were carried out using human osteoblast-like cells. The oxide layer formed showed a triplex structure, where higher incorporation of Sr increased Ca/P ratio, amount of rutile and promoted the formation of SrTiO3 compound. Biological tests revealed that lower concentrations of Sr did not compromise initial cell adhesion neither viability and interestingly improved mineralization. However, higher concentration of Sr (and consequent higher amount of rutile) showed to induce collagen secretion but with compromised mineralization, possibly due to a delayed mineralization process or induced precipitation of deficient hydroxyapatite.

Our results proved that; MOF-carriers embedded in electrospun scaffolds can be used as an effective platform for bone regeneration in bone tissue engineering applications. The proposed approach can easily be adapted for various growth factor molecules for different tissue engineering applications.Chitosan nanoparticles (CSNPs) have been recently explored as a potential drug carrier to enhance the bioavailability and aqueous solubility of drugs. Curcumin, an antioxidant with a remarkable antiradical scavenging activity was encapsulated in CSNPs to revamp its bioavailability. While changes in the optimal farming condition can induce oxidative stress in the animals, curcumin loaded chitosan nanoparticles (Cur-CSNPs) were amalgamated into shrimp feed pellets to ameliorate its antioxidant content in an attempt to bolster the organisms against oxidative stress. Cur-CSNPs were synthesized in two different concentrations of curcumin as Cur-CSNPs A and B. Characterization of the synthesized Cur-CSNPs revealed asymmetrical nanoparticles with semispherical geometry and a zeta potential ˃50 mV. Herein, we engineered bi-modal contrast agents by integrating carbon nanotubes (CNT) and gold nanoparticles (AuNP) around silica microspheres using the Layer-by-Layer self-assembly method. The experimental studies revealed that microspheres with CNT sandwiched between AuNP exhibit strong absorption in the visible and NIR regions and high optoacoustic contrast (OA, also called photoacoustics) and Raman scattering when illuminated with 532 nm and 785 nm lasers, respectively. The developed microspheres demonstrated amplification of the signal in the OA flow cytometry at the laser wavelength of 1064 nm. This finding was further validated with ex vivo brain tissue using a portable Raman spectrometer and imaging with the Raster-scanning OA mesoscopy technique. In order to promote bioactivity, calcium (Ca), phosphorus (P) and strontium (Sr) were incorporated into a TiO2 porous layer produced by micro-arc oxidation. Ca and P as bioactive elements are already well reported in the literature, however, the knowledge of the effect of Sr is still limited. In the present work, the effect of various amounts of Sr was evaluated and the morphology, chemical composition and crystal structure of the oxide layer were investigated. Furthermore, in vitro studies were carried out using human osteoblast-like cells. The oxide layer formed showed a triplex structure, where higher incorporation of Sr increased Ca/P ratio, amount of rutile and promoted the formation of SrTiO3 compound. Biological tests revealed that lower concentrations of Sr did not compromise initial cell adhesion neither viability and interestingly improved mineralization. However, higher concentration of Sr (and consequent higher amount of rutile) showed to induce collagen secretion but with compromised mineralization, possibly due to a delayed mineralization process or induced precipitation of deficient hydroxyapatite.

Phosphite (Phi), an analog of orthophosphate, is an emerging biostimulant used in horticulture and agronomy. The aim of this study was to uncover the molecular mechanisms through which Phi acts as a biostimulant with potential effects of overall plant growth. Field and greenhouse experiments, using 4 potato cultivars, showed that following Phi applications, plant performance, including several physio-biochemical traits, crop productivity, and quality traits, were significantly improved. RNA sequencing of control and Phi-treated plants of cultivar Xingjia No. 2, at 0 h, 6 h, 24 h, 48 h, 72 h and 96 h after the Phi application for 24 h revealed extensive changes in the gene expression profiles. A total of 2856 differentially expressed genes were identified, suggesting that multiple pathways of primary and secondary metabolism, such as flavonoids biosynthesis, starch and sucrose metabolism, and phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, were strongly influenced by foliar applications of Phi. GO (Gene Ontology) and KEGG (Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes) enrichment analyses associated with defense responses revealed significant effects of Phi on a plethora of defense mechanisms. These results suggest that Phi acted as a biostimulant by priming the plants, that was, by triggering dynamic changes in gene expression and modulating metabolic fluxes in a way that allowed plants to perform better. To explore the influence of copper on anaerobic fermentation, we exposed the fermentation substrate to copper in a laboratory setup. We found that the relative abundance of 8 genes (pcoD, tetT, tetA, tetB, tetO, qnrS, ermA and ermB) increased at the late stage of fermentation and their abundance was linked to copper content. Corynebacterium and Streptococcus were significantly positively correlated with ermA, ermB, tetA and tetB (P less then 0.05). The relative abundance of tetT was significantly positively correlated with Terrisporobacter, Clostridium_sensu_stricto_1 and Turicibacter (P less then 0.05). We screened 90 strains of copper resistant bacteria from blank, medium and high copper test groups on days 25, 31 and 37. The number of fragments carried by a single strain increased with time while intl1, ermA and ermB existed in almost all combinations of the multiple fragments we identified. The relative abundance of these three genes were linearly correlated with Corynebacterium and Streptococcus. The antibiotic resistance genes carried by class 1 integrons gradually increased with time in the fermentation system and integrons carrying ermA and ermB most likely contributed to host survival through the late stages of fermentation. The results showed variations in the Cd isotopes of different components of rice plants and the fractionation coefficient of rice grains relative to topsoil (Δ114/110Cdrice grains-topsoil = 0.25‰). The contributions of pollution sources to rice grains were realized by combining the Cd isotopic composition with an isotopic mixing model (Isosource).

  • Purpose of this study was to assess postoperative laxity of MCL reconstructions utilizing a modified LaPrade superficial MCL reconstruction. We retrospectively reviewed post-operative valgus stress radiographs in 23 multiligament injured patients who underwent concurrent sMCL and cruciate ligament reconstruction by a single surgeon. Post- operatively, 23 patients underwent valgus stress radiographs that were assessed at a mean of 8.7 months (range 4-13 months), and mean SSD was 0.64mm ± 0.42mm. Eight patients underwent both pre- and post-operative valgus stress radiographs. Post-operative (0.09mm ± 0.63mm) SSD was found to be significantly reduced compared to pre-operative (2.07mm ± 0.44mm) SSD (mean diff. = 1.98mm, 95% CI = 0.72-3.24, P=0.007). Inter-observer reliability value for medial compartment gap measurement was 0.91 with a 95% confidence interval of 0.34- 0.97. In conclusion, presented technique results in excellent static stability of the knee as measured by valgus stress radiography at a minimum of 6 months postoperative. This study concerns complete ACL resection as a treatment of mucoid degenerated ACL. Thirteen patients were treated with complete ACL resection for symptomatic MD of the ACL from 2006-2016. Symptoms included limited range of motion (ROM) and posterior knee pain. Preoperative and postoperative results of eleven patient were compared. Postoperative recovery was four weeks on average. All patients (100%, n=11) reported an improvement in pain. All patients with a preoperative limited ROM (100%, n=9) reported a return to a normal (subjective) ROM. Eight patients (72.7%, n=8) reported an improvement of knee instability, while three patients (27.3%, n=3) experienced an unchanged knee stability. All patients (100%, n=11) reported a good to very good surgery satisfaction. Preoperative and postoperative KOOS questionnaires were compared and showed improvement in all categories. Complete resection of the ACL without ACL reconstruction is a reliable treatment for symptomatic cases of mucoid degenerated ACL.Overuse injuries of the knee are a common cause of missed training and competition days in elite cyclists, however the underlying conditions causing this knee pain are not well defined. We conducted a diagnostic study, investigating a consecutive series of 53 high level cyclists with non-traumatic knee pain over a 14 month period. Demographic data on the participants' cycling specialty and training level was noted. Clinical information concerning knee pain intensity, location and occurrence were collected using a questionnaire. Our results show 7 different overuse injuries were identified. The prepatellar friction syndrome accounted for the majority of these overuse injuries (46%), while medial plica syndrome (15%), biceps femoris tendinopathy (7.5%), patellar tendinopathy (9.4%), infrapatellar plica friction syndrome (7.5%), infrapatellar fat pad impingement (5.7%) and iliotibial band syndrome (3.7%) were other causes of knee pain in these athletes. In contrast to current belief, our results show that instead of patellofemoral cartilage overload, friction related overuse injuries are the most frequent and underestimated cause of knee pain in high level cyclists.Total hip replacement surgery is the mainstay of treatment for end-stage hip arthritis. Using administrative data, we projected the future volume of total hip replacement procedures and incidence rates using two models. The constant rate model fixes utilisation rates at 2014 levels and adjusts for demographic changes. Projections indicate 32248 admissions by 2025 or an annual growth of 1.22% (incidence rate 273). The time trend model additionally projects the evolution in age-specific utilisation rates. 34895 admissions are projected by 2025 or an annual growth of 1.95% (incidence rate 296). The projections show a shift in performing procedures at younger age. Forecasts of length of stay indicate a substantial shortening. By 2025, the required number of hospital beds will be halved. Despite more procedures, capacity can be reduced, leading to organisational change (e.g. elective orthopaedic clinics) and more labour intensive stays.Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA) joint infection is an uncommon (0,3-1,7%) (20) but devastating complication after THA. While mostly caused by Gram-positive bacteria, with staphylococci and streptococci accounting for up to 76% of cases (21), orthopaedic surgeons are sometimes faced with atypical germs such as fungi or mycobacteria. We present a case of THA joint infection caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MT) in a patient without a previous history of MT infection. A literature review was performed, and the treatment is discussed.The aim of this study is to determine the functional outcome and midterm survival rates of the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing and Birmingham Total Hip Arthroplasty. This retrospective, observational study included 150 surgeries (46 resurfacing procedures and 104 arthroplasty procedures) performed in 127 patients from 2005 to 2012. The Resurfacing and Arthroplasty study groups were evaluated with clinical (Harris Hip Score and Hip Disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score) and radiological follow-up. Cobalt and chromium levels were measured via blood samples. No revisions were required in either study group. Femoral stem osteolysis was observed in three patients in the Arthroplasty group. No osteolysis was observed in the Resurfacing group. Significantly higher clinical scores were observed in the Resurfacing group (p=0.04 and p=0.04, respectively). The average level of metal ions were similar in both groups. Both groups showed excellent midterm clinical and radiographic results with 100 percent survival rates. Additional follow-up is required to monitor future changes in blood metal ion levels.

This retrospective, observational study included 150 surgeries (46 resurfacing procedures and 104 arthroplasty procedures) performed in 127 patients from 2005 to 2012. The Resurfacing and Arthroplasty study groups were evaluated with clinical (Harris Hip Score and Hip Disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score) and radiological follow-up. Cobalt and chromium levels were measured via blood samples. No revisions were required in either study group. Femoral stem osteolysis was observed in three patients in the Arthroplasty group. No osteolysis was observed in the Resurfacing group. Significantly higher clinical scores were observed in the Resurfacing group (p=0.04 and p=0.04, respectively). The average level of metal ions were similar in both groups. Both groups showed excellent midterm clinical and radiographic results with 100 percent survival rates. Additional follow-up is required to monitor future changes in blood metal ion levels.

    A cross-sectional study was conducted to assess the body composition in Japanese patients with psychiatric disorders and healthy controls. InBody470 was used to measure the body composition of the participants. For the primary analysis, measures of body composition between patients and healthy controls were compared. Moreover, the following patient subgroups were also compared with the healthy controls (a) patients with psychotic disorders only, (b) patients with mood disorders only, (c) patients receiving antipsychotics, (d) patients receiving conventional mood stabilizers, (e) patients receiving antidepressants only but not any antipsychotics and/or mood stabilizers, and (f) patients receiving hypnotics/anxiolytics.

    Fatigue is commonly associated with psoriatic arthritis (PsA). However, information about its prevalence and associated factors is sparse. The primary objective here was to find the prevalence and magnitude of PsA fatigue. The secondary objective was to explore its associated risk factors, particularly emphasis on the effect of disease activity control.

    PsA patients who fulfilled Classification Criteria For Psoriatic Arthritis were consecutively recruited from local rheumatology clinics. Fatigue was assessed by a 13-item self-administered questionnaire (Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy - Fatigue [FACIT-F]) (0-52). Data collected and analyzed included demographic data, disease activity data, comorbidities and medications use.

    There were 231 eligible PsA patients recruited. The mean FACIT-F score was 37.5±9.1. Severe fatigue, defined as FACIT-F score<30, was found in 49 (22.1%) of them. The univariate model identified these associated factors of fatigue tender and swollen joint count, ds common in PsA patients, and its magnitude was closely correlated with DAPSA and PASI score, indicating its multifactorial nature. Achieving DAPSA and PASI remission could significantly alleviate the fatigue intensity to a certain extent. However, treatment for PsA-related fatigue should adopt a multidisciplinary approach in addition to disease activity control.

    To investigate the in vitro activity of antibiotics against clinical Elizabethkingia anophelis isolates and to find a suitable antibiotic combination with synergistic effects to combat antibiotic-resistant E. anophelis and its associated biofilm.

    E. anophelis isolates were identified by 16S rRNA sequencing; 30 strains with different pulsotypes were identified and the MIC, antibiotic resistance mechanism, antibiotic combination activity and killing effects of antimicrobial agents on biofilms of these strains were determined.

    All E. anophelis isolates were susceptible to minocycline and cefoperazone/sulbactam (11). More than 90% of clinical isolates were susceptible to cefoperazone/sulbactam (10.5), piperacillin/tazobactam and rifampicin. Some novel mutations, such as gyrA G81D, parE D585N and parC P134T, that have never been reported before, were identified. The synergistic effect was most prominent for the combination of minocycline and rifampicin, with 93.3% of their FIC index values ≤0.5, and no antagonism was observed using the chequerboard method. This synergistic effect between minocycline and rifampicin was also observed using time-killing methods for clinical E. anophelis isolates at both normal inoculum and high inoculum. Twenty-nine isolates tested positive for biofilm formation. Minocycline remained active against biofilm-embedded and biofilm-released planktonic E. anophelis cells; however, the enhanced effect of minocycline by adding rifampicin was only observed at 24 h (not at 72 and 120 h).

    Obesity prevalence in the UK varies according to ethnicity, with children from minority ethnic groups experiencing higher levels, and yet, there is a scarcity of projects that involve minority ethnic groups in the design of interventions to promote healthy weight maintenance. This article presents an account of the involvement of the participants in a co-creation activity to design public health resources for the maintenance of healthy weight.

    The material is drawn from a study that involved Black African parents (n = 30) and Health Visitors (n = 32), residing and working in the East Midlands, UK, respectively. The participants were purposely selected according to an inclusion/exclusion criterion and invited to participate in seven focus groups (FG) conducted for parents (FG-4) and health visitors (FG-3) at a time and place convenient to the participants. Following the focus groups, the Black African parents participated in three co-creation workshops.

    The co-creation activities involved the participants, the researcher and a nutritionist. The outcome was an African heritage eatwell guide and a framework to promote healthy weight, which was well-received when presented to members of the community and local health and social care practitioners.

Also, second chromatographic method (II) was high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) where the separation was carried out on C18 column at isocratic mode at flow rate 1.5 mL/min. The mobile phase consisted of methanolwater (9010, v/v) adjusted to pH 2.5 with O-phosphoric acid and temperature was adjusted to 40°C. The scanning wavelength was 240 nm.
