We compared the mortality between the two groups using propensity scores derived from 17 baseline variables. We identified 1721 eligible patients, including 420 (24.4%) in the anemia group and 1301 (75.6%) in the non-anemia group. One-to-one propensity score-matching created 381 pairs. Complete and empty virus particles were obtained from the N1380 cell culture supernatants, and complete genome sequences were obtained from complete virus particles. Sequence analysis revealed that the isolated MRV, named TY-14, could be classified as MRV3 and had a close genetic relationship to an MRV2 isolate from a lion in a Japanese zoo (L2, L3, and M3 genes) and a human MRV2 isolate from Japan (S2 gene). Phylogenetic analysis showed that TY-14 clustered only with bat MRVs in the M1 phylogenetic tree but formed a cluster with several animal MRVs in the M2 and S3 phylogenetic trees and branched independently in the L1, S1, and S4 phylogenetic trees, suggesting a genetic relationship to viruses of unknown origin. Recombination events were identified in the M2 gene. Bioinformatic analysis revealed that the genome of BSP7 does not exhibit any significant similarities to other phages with sequences in the NCBI database. A comparative genomic analysis also confirmed the uniqueness of BSP7 within the family Siphoviridae.
Inflammation and oxidative stress are implicated in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) pathophysiology. We aimed at exploring whether the combination of a weight-loss Mediterranean diet/lifestyle intervention with OSA standard care, i.e., continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) prescription, can lead to greater improvements in inflammation and oxidative stress, compared to standard care alone.
This was a randomized controlled clinical trial in 187 adult, overweight patients with moderate-to-severe OSA. Participants were randomized to a standard care (SCG, n = 65), a Mediterranean diet (MDG, n = 62) or a Mediterranean lifestyle group (MLG, n = 60). All groups received OSA standard care. Intervention arms participated in a 6-month behavioral weight-loss intervention based on the Mediterranean diet, while the MLG also received counselling on physical activity and sleep habits.
Seven patients were excluded and 53/180 were lost to follow-up. In intention to treat analysis (n = 180), the SCG did not exhibit changes in any of the markers assessed. Post-intervention age-, sex-, baseline- and CPAP use-adjusted plasma high sensitivity C-reactive protein levels (mg/L) were lower in the MDG and the MLG compared to the SCG (mean difference - 1.33, P = 0.039 and - 1.68, P = 0.007, respectively). The MLG also exhibited lower urinary 8-iso prostaglandin F2a levels (ng/mg creatinine) compared to the SCG and the MDG (mean difference - 1.10, P < 0.0001 and - 0.80, P = 0.001, respectively). Adiponectin and oxidized guanine levels were not altered in any of the study groups. Results were similar in per protocol analysis (n = 127).

Thermal injury is a leading cause of unintentional pediatric trauma morbidity and mortality.
This retrospective analysis of the 2003-2016 Kids' Inpatient Database (KID) included children <18 years old with a burn principal diagnosis. The objectives were to describe the trend of US pediatric burn hospital admissions and the patient and hospital characteristics of admitted children in 2016. The trends (2003-2012) and (2012-2016) were evaluated separately due to the 2015 implementation of International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10).
The population rate of pediatric burn admissions decreased by 4.6% from 2003 to 2012, but the proportion of admissions to hospitals with burn pediatric patient volumes≥100 increased by 63.9%. The overall mortality rate of hospitalized burn patients decreased by 48.1%. Median length of stay increased slightly for patients with a burn ≥20% total body surface area (TBSA) but decreased for patients with TBSA burn <20%. From 2012 to 2016, the population rate decreased by 13.4%. In 2016, an estimated 8160 children were admitted with a burn principal diagnosis, and 41.4% transferred in from other facilities. Children age 1-4 years were the most commonly admitted age group (49.7%). Patients with ≥20% TBSA burns accounted for 7.8% of admissions (95% confidence interval [CI] 5.1-10.4%). Burn-related complications were documented in 5.9% of admissions (95% CI 4.6-7.1%).

The search of peer-reviewed articles in three databases from January 2009 to July 2019 identified 4271 English-language publications reporting STSG donor-site clinical outcomes, complications, or quality of life. Of these studies, 77 met inclusion criteria for analysis. Mean time to donor-site epithelialization ranged from 4.7 to 35.0 days. Mean pain scores (0-10 scale) ranged from 1.24 to 6.38 on postoperative Day 3. Mean scar scores (0-13 scale) ranged from 0 to 10.9 at Year 1. One study reported 28% of patients had donor-site scar hypertrophy at 8 years. Infection rates were generally low but ranged from 0 to 56%. Less frequently reported outcomes included pruritus, wound exudation, and esthetic dissatisfaction. Donor-site wounds underwent days of wound care and were frequently associated with pain and scarring. Widespread variations were noted in STSG donor-site outcomes likely due to inconsistencies in the definition of outcomes and utilization of various assessment tools. Understanding the true burden of donor sites may drive innovative treatments that would reduce the use of STSGs and address the associated morbidities.
Electroencephalogram (EEG) pattern in Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is characterized by diffuse abnormal activity, although lateralization to one hemisphere has been described in the first stages of the disease. This study aimed to determine whether abnormal EEG activity predominantly occurs in anterior versus posterior brain regions.
As part of a prospective study, the demographics, clinical features and MRI findings of genetic E200K CJD patients were collected. EEG was performed and the recordings reviewed for the typical periodic sharp wave complex (PSWC) and non-specific slow activity. Data were analyzed using the qEEG tool, and the activity in anterior and posterior regions of the brain compared.
Eleven genetic E200K CJD patients were included in the study (67% women). The average age was 59.1 ± 8.4 SD years and the average disease duration was 2.4 ± 2.1 months. EEG showed the classic PSWC pattern in 5/11 (45%) of the patients, and slow activity was seen in 9/11 (82%). EEG was normal in 2 patients. PSWC activity was diffuse in 2/5 patients and unilateral in 3/5 patients; slow activity was diffuse in 9 patients. Quantitative analysis of PSWC and slow activity showed no significant difference between anterior and posterior distribution.

Search for relevant articles was done in; PubMed/Medline, Scopus, and Ovid (January 2006April 2020), including only English-written articles reporting reference tests and accuracy data. Evolutions in cranioplasty have allowed for the creation of customized implants via advances in 3-dimensional (3D) printing technology, although the high cost associated with this technique presents a barrier for low-income countries. Through an international collaboration, our team in Da Nang, Vietnam is able to create low-cost, customized titanium implants for patients with skull defects. We discuss the details of our collaboration and present our experience with this procedure.
We conducted a retrospective review of 35 patients who underwent cranioplasty using custom-made titanium implants. Gram-positive bacterial infection incidence decreased from 4.8 to 1.7 per 1000 EVD days (95% CI, 2.3-3.9; P= 0.00882) and gram-negative infection incidence decreased from 1.9 to 0.5 per 1000 EVD days (95% CI, 0.6-2.3; P= 0.0303). The collision of pituitary adenoma and craniopharyngioma is extremely rare and thus there remains a paucity of data.
We described a patient from our institution. We also performed a systematic review and subsequent quantitative synthesis of the literature (n= 21) and our institutional case to yield an integrated cohort, and a descriptive analysis was carried out.
Twenty-two patients (15 males and 7 females) were included in the integrated cohort. The median age was 47.0 years (range, 8-75 years). The tumor subtypes were 5 somatotropic, 5 lactotropic, 4 nonfunctioning, 3 gonadotropic, 2 corticotropic, 1 plurihormonal, and 1 silent subtype 3 for pituitary adenomas, and 19 adamantinomatous, 2 papillary, and 1 unknown subtype for craniopharyngiomas. Three different radiographic patterns were observed solid mass with cystic component (n= 5), coexistence of two distinct solid components (n= 3), and a mixed-intensity solid mass (n= 5). The first 2 were consistent with histologically separate collision, whereas the third was consistent with histologically admixed collision. Among 19 patients in whom the postoperative course was recorded, a secondary intervention was required in 14 (73.7%) because of tumor progression or residual. The recurrence rate after gross total resection was 33.3%. Postoperative hormone replacement was required in 33.3%. The 10-year cumulative overall survival was 73.1%.

Data were collected on the patient demographics, details of chemotherapy, radiation, histology, perioperative complications, surgical approaches, and survival. We compared the survival outcomes of patients with different duration of disease before presentation.
We identified 17 patients who had undergone salvage surgical resection of treatment-recalcitrant, locally advanced sinonasal tumors. Almost all patients had undergone prior surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. Perioperative complications occurred in 6 of 17 patients with 1 death.
Evolutions in cranioplasty have allowed for the creation of customized implants via advances in 3-dimensional (3D) printing technology, although the high cost associated with this technique presents a barrier for low-income countries. Through an international collaboration, our team in Da Nang, Vietnam is able to create low-cost, customized titanium implants for patients with skull defects. We discuss the details of our collaboration and present our experience with this procedure. We conducted a retrospective review of 35 patients who underwent cranioplasty using custom-made titanium implants. To develop a minimum Adult Oral Health Standard Set (AOHSS) for use in clinical practice, research, advocacy and population health.
An international oral health working group (OHWG) was established, of patient advocates, researchers, clinicians and public health experts to develop an AOHSS. PubMed was searched for oral health clinical and patient-reported measures and case-mix variables related to caries and periodontal disease. The selected patient-reported outcome measures focused on general oral health, and oral health-related quality of life tools. A consensus was reached via Delphi with parallel consultation of subject matter content experts. Finally, comments and input were elicited from oral health stakeholders globally, including patients/consumers.
The literature search yielded 1,453 results. After inclusion/exclusion criteria, 959 abstracts generated potential outcomes and case-mix variables. Delphi rounds resulted in a consensus-based selection of 80 individual items capturing 31 outcome and case-mix concepts. Global reviews generated 347 responses from 87 countries, and the patient/consumer validation survey elicited 129 responses. This AOHSS includes 25 items directed towards patients (including demographics, the impact of their oral health on oral function, a record of pain and oral hygiene practices, and financial implications of care) and items for clinicians to complete, including medical history, a record of caries and periodontal disease activity, and types of dental treatment delivered.
In conclusion, utilising a robust methodology, a standardised core set of oral health outcome measures for adults, with a particular emphasis on caries and periodontal disease, was developed.

Sensitization to wheat proteins was determined by basophil activation test (BAT). IgE-binding proteins in wheat flour were identified by immunoblotting followed by mass spectrometry. Metformin as a Novel Therapy for Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease (TAME), NCT02656017.Recent advances in single-cell sequencing technologies enable the generation of large-scale data sets of paired TCR sequences from patients with autoimmune disease. Methods to validate and characterize patient-derived TCR data are needed, as well as relevant model systems that can support the development of antigen-specific tolerance inducing drugs. We have generated a pipeline to allow streamlined generation of 'artificial' T cells in a robust and reasonably high throughput manner for in vitro and in vivo studies of antigen-specific and patient-derived immune responses. Hereby chimeric (mouse-human) TCR alpha and beta constructs are re-expressed in three different formats for further studies (i) transiently in HEK cells for peptide-HLA tetramer validation experiments, (ii) stably in the TCR-negative 58 T cell line for functional readouts such as IL-2 production and NFAT-signaling, and lastly (iii) in human HLA-transgenic **** for studies of autoimmune disease and therapeutic interventions. As a proof of concept, we have used human HLA-DRB1∗0401 restricted TCR sequences specific for a type I diabetes-associated GAD peptide, and an influenza-derived HA peptide. We show that the same chimeric TCR constructs can be used in each of the described assays facilitating sequential validation and prioritization steps leading to humanized animal models.

The closure of a local labor ward enhanced the possibility to initiate a continuity of midwifery care model project. Continuity models of midwifery care are a cornerstone in midwifery and women-centered care, mainly accessible in metropolitan areas. Australian studies have found continuity of midwifery care to work well in rural areas. The aim of this study is to describe midwives' experiences of developing and working in a continuity of midwifery model of care in a rural setting in Sweden.
We used a qualitative longitudinal interview with a participatory action research approach. The project was subjected to changes over time to allow the midwives to provide the best care options and to develop a model suitable for a rural area in northern Sweden.
The overarching theme, 'Developing a continuity model of midwifery care - demanding and rewarding with new insights', was based on three themes 1) A challenging but evolving start, 2) Varying views within the midwifery group, and 3) Visions for the future. It was revealed that the midwives had to handle the grief process of the closure of the labor ward alongside their enthusiasm of being part of a continuity of midwifery care model project.
The establishment of the model in light of the labor ward closure was associated with conflict within the community and this had implications for the midwives. Midwives who are attracted to work in continuity models need to understand and incorporate the prerequisites of such models. In addition, long commuting to a labor ward requires enough midwives to maintain safety and security for the women at all times.

Modern permanent pacemakers (PPMs) have individual features designed to identify cardiac rhythm abnormalities and improve their performance. Inappropriate pacing inhibition may be an undesired outcome from these features and cause symptoms in patients who require frequent pacing, leading to dizziness, and syncope. Inappropriate inhibition can be difficult to identify in circumstances that are intermittent and difficult to reproduce.
A 57-year-old female underwent a mitral valve replacement (MVR) for severe mitral stenosis. One month following MVR, she presented with symptomatic third-degree atrioventricular block, and a dual-chamber PPM (Advisa™, Medtronic, Minneapolis, USA) was implanted and programmed DDD 50-130 b.p.m. At the 3-month follow-up, she reported frequent episodes of lightheadedness. She was found to have intermittent ventricular pacing inhibition on a 48-h Holter monitor due to an internal function of the Advisa™ series of PPMs that attempts to store an electrogram (EGM) every 1 h and 30 s. During the EGM storage, an amplified signal from the storage capacitor can result in oversensing by the ventricular channel and inappropriate pacing inhibition.

Methods to validate and characterize patient-derived TCR data are needed, as well as relevant model systems that can support the development of antigen-specific tolerance inducing drugs. We have generated a pipeline to allow streamlined generation of 'artificial' T cells in a robust and reasonably high throughput manner for in vitro and in vivo studies of antigen-specific and patient-derived immune responses. Hereby chimeric (mouse-human) TCR alpha and beta constructs are re-expressed in three different formats for further studies (i) transiently in HEK cells for peptide-HLA tetramer validation experiments, (ii) stably in the TCR-negative 58 T cell line for functional readouts such as IL-2 production and NFAT-signaling, and lastly (iii) in human HLA-transgenic mice for studies of autoimmune disease and therapeutic interventions. The aim of this study is to describe midwives' experiences of developing and working in a continuity of midwifery model of care in a rural setting in Sweden. We used a qualitative longitudinal interview with a participatory action research approach. The project was subjected to changes over time to allow the midwives to provide the best care options and to develop a model suitable for a rural area in northern Sweden. The overarching theme, 'Developing a continuity model of midwifery care - demanding and rewarding with new insights', was based on three themes 1) A challenging but evolving start, 2) Varying views within the midwifery group, and 3) Visions for the future. It was revealed that the midwives had to handle the grief process of the closure of the labor ward alongside their enthusiasm of being part of a continuity of midwifery care model project. The establishment of the model in light of the labor ward closure was associated with conflict within the community and this had implications for the midwives. Midwives who are attracted to work in continuity models need to understand and incorporate the prerequisites of such models. Audio recordings were transcribed ad verbatim and analysed both deductively and inductively. One interview was undertaken for each of the DMR, RTP and PharmOutcomes systems. Although all systems shared the same aim, differences were identified such as automated feedback for referrals, marketing strategies and practitioner accountability. Good practice recommendations suggested in this study could be applied to the future development of such systems.Aim Intervention mapping (IM) is a method to systematically design interventions that is applied regularly within the public health domain. This study investigates whether IM is effectively used within the occupational safety and health domain as well. Specifically, this study explores the relation between the fidelity regarding the use of the IM protocol for intervention development, the implementation process and the effectiveness of the occupational risk prevention and health promotion interventions. Methods A systematic review was conducted including articles on development, implementation, and effects of occupational risk prevention and health promotion interventions that were developed according to the IM-protocol. By means of a checklist, two authors reviewed the articles and rated them on several indicators regarding the fidelity of the IM-protocol, the implementation process, and the intervention effect. Results A literature search resulted in a total of 12 interventions as described in 38 articles. The fidelity to the IM-protocol was relatively low for participation throughout the development process and implementation planning. No relationship was found between fidelity of the IM-protocol and the intervention effect. A theory-based approach (as one of the core elements of IM) appears to be positively related to a successful implementation process. Conclusion Results of the review suggest that organizing a participative approach and implementation planning is difficult in practice. In addition, results imply that conducting matrices of change objectives as part of the intervention development, although challenging and time-consuming, may ultimately pay off, resulting in a tailored intervention that matches the target group.The development of new computational approaches that are able to design the correct personalized drugs is the crucial therapeutic issue in cancer research. However, tumor heterogeneity is the main obstacle to developing patient-specific single drugs or combinations of drugs that already exist in clinics. In this study, we developed a computational approach that integrates copy number alteration, gene expression, and a protein interaction network of 73 basal breast cancer samples. 2509 prognostic genes harboring a copy number alteration were identified using survival analysis, and a protein-protein interaction network considering the direct interactions was created. Each patient was described by a specific combination of seven altered hub proteins that fully characterize the 73 basal breast cancer patients. We suggested the optimal combination therapy for each patient considering drug-protein interactions. Our approach is able to confirm well-known cancer related genes and suggest novel potential drug target genes. In this work, we investigate how the FLM irradiation parameters affect surface roughness and we characterize the improvement of surface quality after thermal annealing. As a result, we achieved a strong roughness reduction, from an average value of 49 nm down to 19 nm. As a proof of concept, we studied the imaging performances of embedded mirrors before and after thermal polishing, showing the capacity to preserve a minimum feature size of the reflected image lower than μ5μm. These results allow for us to push forward the capabilities of this enabling fabrication technology, and they can be used as a starting point to improve the performances of more complex optical elements, such as hollow waveguides or micro-lenses.

The improvement of gene therapy provides hope for the treatment of cancer. However, malignant tumor is a multifactorial disease, which remains difficult to be cured with a single therapy. Our previous study reported that mitochondrial genes glioblastoma-amplified sequence (GBAS) plays a role in the development and treatment of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). The current study focused on building a mitochondrial-targeting drug co-delivery system for combined photodynamic therapy (PDT) and gene therapy.
5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) photosensitizer loaded chitosan (CS) nanoparticles were prepared using ionic crosslinking method, and further synthesized with the GBAS gene plasmid DNA (shGBAS) by electrostatic attraction. We detected the effects of PDT using the co-delivery system (CS-ALA-shGBAS) on cell proliferation and mitochondrial injury by MTT and reactive oxygen species (ROS) assays, respectively. Additionally, a oral cancer Xenograft model of nude **** was built to test its inhibitive effect on the cancerous growth in vivo.

In this review we have compiled other possible actions of BPs, particularly in the areas of immunomodulation, anti-inflammatory capacity and in the prevention of structural joint damage in inflammatory rheumatic diseases. The immunomodulatory capacity of BPs has been focused on the mechanisms involved in the acute-phase response associated with the administration of nitrogen containing BPs (N-BPs), with the stimulus of pro-inflammatory cytokines, through the mevalonate pathway, activation of T-cells and the decrease in the cytotoxic T-lymphocyte antigen-4 (CTLA-4). In relation to their anti-inflammatory capacity, special attention has been given to their effect on preventing structural damage in inflammatory joint diseases and on the differential immune response in bone lesions of the most common and representative inflammatory rheumatic diseases, i.e. rheumatoid arthritis and spondyloarthropathies. The present data indicate that more studies are needed to improve the knowledge on the effect of BPs on inflammatory-mediated diseases and particularly on the prevention and/or treatment of the structural damage in these disorders, since these agents could be a potential useful concomitant therapy.Magnesium (Mg2+), as an essential mineral, supports and sustains the health and activity of the organs of the human body. Despite some clinical evidence on the association of Mg2+ deficiency with muscle regeneration dysfunction and sarcopenia in older-aged individuals, there is no consensus on the action mode and molecular mechanism by which Mg2+ influences aged muscle size and function. Here, we identified the appropriate Mg2+ environment that promotes the myogenic differentiation and myotube hypertrophy in both C2C12 myoblast and primary aged muscle stem cell (MuSC). Through animal experiments, we demonstrated that Mg2+ supplementation in aged **** significantly promotes muscle regeneration and conserves muscle mass and strength. Mechanistically, Mg2+ stimulation activated the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signalling, inducing the myogenic differentiation and protein synthesis, which consequently offers protections against the age-related decline in muscle regenerative potential and muscle mass. These findings collectively provide a promising therapeutic strategy for MuSC dysfunction and sarcopenia through Mg2+ supplementation in the elderly.
This study aims to analyse the influence of different lining material, thickness and coverage on residual stress of class II molar restoration by the multilayer technique through the three-dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) method. The objective is to reveal the correlations between the base layer configurations and the residual stress distributions of the tooth.
A 3D reconstructed model of an extracted first molar was built through micro-CT images and a class II mesio-occlusal-distal cavity was prepared using computer-aided engineering (CAE) software. A bilayer technique was then applied, and 3D FE analyses were performed under polymerization contraction loading. Glass ionomer composites (Vitrebond and Ionosit) and flowable composite resin (Luxa Flow and Z350 Flowable Restorative) were used as lining materials. Moreover, several sensitivity analyses with dozens of hypothetical lining materials were conducted to provide definitive results. In the current work, we present BloodCaps, a capsule based model designed for the accurate multiclassification of a diverse and broad spectrum of blood cells.
Implemented on a large-scale dataset of 8 categories of human peripheral blood cells, the proposed architecture achieved an overall accuracy of 99.3%, outperforming convolutional neural networks such as AlexNet(81.5%), VGG16(97.8%), ResNet-18(95.9%) and InceptionV3(98.4%). Furthermore, we devised three new datasets(low-resolution dataset, small dataset, and low-resolution small dataset) from the original dataset, and tested BloodCaps in comparison with AlexNet, VGG16, ResNet-18, and InceptionV3.

Questions in the survey addressed misconceptions divided into four categories optimism bias, pessimism bias, magical beliefs, and conspiracy theory beliefs. Questions were evaluated on a Likert scale, and average/median scores for each category were evaluated ("one" high misconception to "five" low misconception). Overall, the most common misconceptions involved conspiracy theory beliefs (2.68 ± 0.83), whereas the least common involved magical beliefs (2.25 ± 0.75). Females had more misconceptions than males (2.52 versus 2.47, P = 0.04). Participants who had attended a lecture on coronavirus, had a higher level of education, worked in a medical field, lived in urban area, or resided in Amman or northern Jordan had fewer misconceptions about SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 (2.64, 2.34, 2.33, 2.50 and 2.50 versus 2.53, 2.73, 2.72, 2.64, and 2.66, respectively, P less then 0.001). Considering the plight in thyroid cancer therapy, we aimed to find novel therapeutic targets from a molecular perspective.
Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) and Western blot assay were carried out to determine RNA and protein expression. Cell counting kit-8 (CCK8) assay, flow cytometry, transwell migration assay and aerobic glycolysis analysis were performed to analyze cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration and aerobic glycolysis of thyroid cancer cells. MiRcode and Starbase software were used to search the downstream genes of long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) deleted in lymphocytic leukemia 2 (DLEU2) and microRNA-205-5p (miR-205-5p), and the intermolecular combination was confirmed by dual-luciferase reporter assay. The in vivo role of DLEU2 in tumor growth was verified using the murine xenograft model.
DLEU2 and tumor necrosis factor-α-induced protein 8 (TNFAIP8) were highly expressed in thyroid cancer tissues and cell lines. DLEU2 and TNRAIP8 promoted the proliferation, migration and aerobic glycolysis and restrained the apoptosis of thyroid cancer cells. DLEU2/miR-205-5p/TNFAIP8 signaling axis was identified in thyroid cancer cells. TNFAIP8 overexpression largely rescued the malignant phenotypes in DLEU2-silenced thyroid cancer cells. DLEU2 positively regulated TNFAIP8 expression by acting as miR-205-5p sponge in thyroid cancer cells. DLEU2 silencing blocked the growth of xenograft tumors in vivo.

We included patients aged 70-99 years with hypopituitarism, evaluated hormonal and biochemical parameters, and cardiovascular risk scores were calculated by diagnosis and compared after long-term follow-up. All patients gave informed consent. Patient data were compared to a sex and age-matched control group, wo of hormone replacement on the metabolic profile in septuagenarian and octogenarian patients.Influenza viruses are an important cause of disease in both humans and animals, and their detection and characterization can take weeks. In this study, we sought to compare classical virology techniques with a new rapid microarray method for the detection and characterization of a very diverse, panel of animal, environmental, and human clinical or field specimens that were molecularly positive for influenza A alone (n = 111), influenza B alone (n = 3), both viruses (n = 13), or influenza negative (n = 2) viruses. All influenza virus positive samples in this study were first subtyped by traditional laboratory methods, and later evaluated using the FluChip-8G Insight Assay (InDevR Inc. Boulder, CO) in laboratories at Duke University (USA) or at Duke Kunshan University (China). The FluChip-8G Insight multiplexed assay agreed with classical virologic techniques 59 (54.1%) of 109 influenza A-positive, 3 (100%) of the 3 influenza B-positive, 0 (0%) of 10 both influenza A- and B-positive samples, 75% of 24 environmental samples including those positive for H1, H3, H7, H9, N1, and N9 strains, and 80% of 22 avian influenza samples. It had difficulty with avian N6 types and ***** H3 and N2 influenza specimens. The FluChip-8G Insight assay performed well with most human, environmental, and animal samples, but had some difficulty with samples containing multiple viral strains and with specific animal influenza strains. As classical virology methods are often iterative and can take weeks, the FluChip-8G Insight Assay rapid results (time range 8 to 12 h) offers considerable time savings. Rectal signet ring cell carcinoma is a rare type of colorectal adenocarcinoma characterized by an aggressive biological behavior and poor prognosis. The co-occurrence of colorectal carcinoma and renal cell carcinoma (RCC) has found in many hundreds of patients, many of whom also have additional malignancies. Cancer to cancer metastasis is rare and an uncommon phenomenon in malignancy, especially at the time of initial diagnosis, suggesting a genetic susceptibility.
We present the case of a 66-year-old Macedonian man with synchronous rectal signet ring cell carcinoma and RCC with tumor to tumor metastasis feature. He underwent a left nephrectomy and anterior rectal resection after complaining of constipation for 3-4 months and the appearance of synchronous tumors on the imaging studies. Morphology and immunohistochemical analysis of specimens from the RCC revealed signet ring cells identical to the rectal signet ring cell carcinoma. The next-generation sequencing study revealed mutations in TP53 and ERBB2, and microsatellite stable signet ring cell carcinoma was determined by deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) sequencing.

Patients with body mass index (BMI) > 35 kg/m

referred to an intermittent weight-loss programme were recruited into this study. They were introduced to one of three different activity monitors, Fitbit Zip™, Mio Fuse™, or Mio Slice™. Semi-structured interviews were performed with patients six months into the weight-loss programme. Thematic analysis was applied when analysing the data.
Of the 29 informants (aged 21 to 66 years) interviewed, 59% were female. Their experience with activity monitors was related to their adherence to the weight-loss programme.

They were introduced to one of three different activity monitors, Fitbit Zip™, Mio Fuse™, or Mio Slice™. Semi-structured interviews were performed with patients six months into the weight-loss programme. Thematic analysis was applied when analysing the data. Of the 29 informants (aged 21 to 66 years) interviewed, 59% were female.
