  • The effectiveness of probiotic consumption in controlling dyslipidemia in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has been unclear. We reviewed relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to clarify the effect of probiotic intake on dyslipidemia in T2DM patients. The Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed and Cochrane Library databases were used for searching relevant RCTs published up to October 2020. The total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) concentrations were selected as the primary indicators for dyslipidemia. The results of 13 eligible RCTs showed that probiotic intake could significantly reduce TC (SMD -0.23, 95% CI (-0.37, -0.10)) and TG (SMD -0.27, 95% CI (-0.44, -0.11)) levels, but did not regulate LDL-C or HDL-C concentrations. Subgroup analysis showed that multispecies probiotics (≥two species), but not single-species probiotics, significantly decreased TC and TG concentrations. Furthermore, powder, but not liquid, probiotics could reduce TC and TG concentrations. This meta-analysis demonstrated that probiotic supplementation is helpful in reducing TC and TG concentrations in T2DM patients. However, more well-controlled trials are needed to clarify the benefits of probiotics on dyslipidemia in T2DM patients.The pure Soqotri resin of Dracaena cinnabari Balf.f. This method of extracting the volatile constituents using hexane under cooling is very suitable for resins of the Dracaena species because these resins usually contain very few volatile terpenes and/or non-terpenes, and they may contain only one volatile terpene per resin as this study result. β-Caryophyllene was identified and separated for the first time from the Soqotri standard resin of Dracaena cinnabari. Therefore, β-caryophyllene, as a new chemical property, can support to evaluate the purity of the Soqotri resin. Moreover, a big mass of D. cinnabari resin can yield concentrated β-caryophyllene as a liquid extract for further pharmaceutical and nutraceutical applications.Cold in-place recycling with bitumen emulsion is a good environmental option for road conservation. In this study, we prepared synthetic deuterium-labeled 1-palmitoyl lysoPC and palmitoyl-glutaroyl PC (PGPC), a short chain-oxPC to elucidate the metabolic fate of oxPC and lysoPC in oxLDL in the presence of HDL. When LDL preloaded with d13-lysoPC was mixed with HDL, d13-lysoPC was recovered in both the LDL and HDL fractions equally. d13-LysoPC decreased by 50% after 4 h of incubation, while d13-PC increased in both fractions. Diacyl-PC production was abolished by an inhibitor of lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase (LCAT). When d13-PGPC-preloaded LDL was incubated with HDL, d13-PGPC was transferred to HDL in a dose-dependent manner when both LCAT and lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) were inhibited. Lp-PLA2 in both HDL and LDL was responsible for the hydrolysis of d13-PGPC. The adhesion properties of the PUDs were measured by cross-hatch adhesion and T-peel test. The lowest pH value and the highest mean particle size were found in the PUD made by adding DMPA after prepolymer formation, all PUDs showed relatively ample mono-modal particle size distributions. The highest viscosity and noticeable shear thinning were obtained in the PUD made by adding DMPA during prepolymer formation. Depending on the stage of addition of DMPA, the length of the prepolymer varied and the PU films showed different degree of micro-phase separation.

  • The dissemination and autotransplantation of viable splenic tissue in different anatomic compartments of the body can present a diagnostic dilemma, especially when metastatic disease is suspected. We report a case of a 30-year-old male with well-differentiated gastric neuroendocrine tumor (Grade II) treated with surgery. Follow-up 68Ga-DOTA-NOC demonstrated a suspicious peritoneal soft-tissue nodule in the right paracolic gutter with increased tracer uptake. In view of splenectomy 10 years ago, the patient underwent 99mTc heat-denatured erythrocyte study which showed a very unusual pattern of multiple tracer-avid foci of splenic tissue in both intraperitoneal and extraperitoneal distributions. The integration of the patient's history and complementary nuclear imaging results led to the correct diagnosis of splenosis.Parathyroid hormone (PTH) is a key in maintaining calcium homeostasis. Decreased PTH will result in decreased bone remodeling and increased bone density. The major cause is iatrogenic injury to parathyroid gland. X-ray and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry are used to identify the skeletal changes. Cutaneous metastasis of bladder carcinoma is extremely rare with a limited number of cases, resulting mainly from iatrogenic seeding. Here, we present scan findings of cutaneous metastasis in a known case of carcinoma urinary bladder. The 18F FDG PET/CT scan revealed FDG avid nodular thickening of the skin and sub-cutaneous tissue with ulcerations involving anterior pelvic wall, walls of the scrotum and the base of the penis. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of cutaneous and subcutaneous metastasis.We report an extremely rare case of acute inflammatory myopathy during combination chemotherapy with docetaxel and transtuzumab for metastatic breast carcinoma in a 44-year-old female patient. Despite the significant response in the follow-up fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography, of the underlying malignancy to the chemotherapeutic regimen, there was diffusely increased FDG uptake in the upper and lower limb muscles with associated painful, proximal muscle weakness. These symptoms regressed after the discontinuation of docetaxel and the administration of corticosteroids, suggesting it to be the drug-induced myositis.New onset refractory status epilepticus (NORSE), is a rare, neurological condition characterised by prolonged periods of refractory epileptic seizure with no readily identifiable cause in otherwise healthy individuals.     Australia and New Zealand have the highest skin cancer incidence rates worldwide, and sun exposure is the main risk factor for developing skin cancer. Sun exposure during childhood and adolescence is a critical factor in developing skin cancer later in life.

    This study aims to test the effectiveness of wearable UV sensors to increase sun protection habits (SPH) and prevent sunburn in adolescents.

    During the weeklong school leavers outdoor festival (November 2019) at the Gold Coast, Australia, registered attendees aged 15-19 years were recruited into the field study. Participants were provided with a wearable UV sensor and free sunscreen. The primary outcome was sun exposure practices using the SPH index. Secondary outcomes were self-reported sunburns, sunscreen use, and satisfaction with the wearable UV sensor.

    A total of 663 participants were enrolled in the study, and complete data were available for 188 participants (188/663, 28.4% response rate). Participants provided with a wearable UV sensor significantly improved their use of sunglasses (P=.004) and sunscreen use both on the face (P<.001) and on other parts of the body (P=.005). However, the use of long-sleeve shirts (P<.001) and the use of a hat (P<.001) decreased. During the study period, 31.4% (59/188) of the participants reported receiving one or more sunburns. Satisfaction with the wearable UV sensor was high, with 73.4% (138/188) of participants reporting the UV sensor was helpful to remind them to use sun protection.

    Devices that target health behaviors when outdoors, such as wearable UV sensors, may improve use of sunscreen and sunglasses in adolescents.

These screening abilities offer unique advantages in that they can serve a broad strata of the society, including people in underserved populations and in countries with poor access to medical services. However, these advantages need to be balanced against the potential harm to privacy, autonomy, and nonmaleficence, which are recognized as the cornerstones of ethical medical care. Here, we discuss these opportunities and challenges, both when collecting data to develop online screening services and when deploying them. We offer several solutions that balance the advantages of these services with the ethical challenges they pose.

This study investigated the types of information sources that are used widely by patients in choosing a doctor and identified ways in which the preferred sources differ in various situations.

Australia and New Zealand have the highest skin cancer incidence rates worldwide, and sun exposure is the main risk factor for developing skin cancer. Sun exposure during childhood and adolescence is a critical factor in developing skin cancer later in life. This study aims to test the effectiveness of wearable UV sensors to increase sun protection habits (SPH) and prevent sunburn in adolescents. During the weeklong school leavers outdoor festival (November 2019) at the Gold Coast, Australia, registered attendees aged 15-19 years were recruited into the field study. Participants were provided with a wearable UV sensor and free sunscreen. The primary outcome was sun exposure practices using the SPH index. Secondary outcomes were self-reported sunburns, sunscreen use, and satisfaction with the wearable UV sensor. A total of 663 participants were enrolled in the study, and complete data were available for 188 participants (188/663, 28.4% response rate). Participants provided with a wearable UV sensor significantly improved their use of sunglasses (P=.004) and sunscreen use both on the face (P<.001) and on other parts of the body (P=.005). However, the use of long-sleeve shirts (P<.001) and the use of a hat (P<.001) decreased. During the study period, 31.4% (59/188) of the participants reported receiving one or more sunburns. Satisfaction with the wearable UV sensor was high, with 73.4% (138/188) of participants reporting the UV sensor was helpful to remind them to use sun protection. Resting state EEG data of all five sessions were computed using a clustering algorithm. Four EEG microstates were found and labeled with the letters A, B, C and D. No significant difference in duration was found among five sessions for four microstates. For microstates A, and B, there is an increase in the mean duration immediately after rTMS. And for microstate C, the mean duration at Post0 and Post60 was significantly higher than that before rTMS. For microstate D, there is an increase in the mean duration at 60min after rTMS. These results showed that we reproduced the same four microstate maps best representing the resting state EEG as found by others and that low-frequency rTMS produced long-lasting alterations in the mean duration of EEG microstates. In this paper we focus on the development of the integrated microfluidics needed by the SDCS system. We developed a fabrication method and characterized valve performance within the multi-valve microfluidic system. We used poly-dimethylsiloxane (PDMS) to fabricate three microfluidic chips that integrated valves actuated by 50-µm Nitinol (NiTi) shape memory alloy (SMA) wire. We tested system operation by driving SMA valves with a current pulse and recording the valve response with an electrical assay. The valve operation complied with the SDCS system requirements. The time for valves to open was rapid at 0.177 ± 0.04 seconds, and the time for the valves to close was 0.265 ± 0.05 seconds. Open microfluidic channel impedance for unrestricted ionic current flow was 15.90 ± 8.28 kΩ and it increased by a factor of 40 to restrict ionic current flow at 678 ± 102 kΩ for the closed valves.In this study, we present a temporal interference (TI) concept to achieve focal and steerable stimulation in the targeted brain area through transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). This method works by inducing two high-frequency electric fields with a slight frequency difference via two independent coils. The intrinsic nonlinear nature of the nerve membrane, which acts as a low-pass filter, does not allow the nerve to engage at high frequencies. Instead, neurons at the intersection of two electric fields can follow the frequency difference of the two fields. For 3D MRI-derived head models, the finite element method is used to compute the electric field induced by the time-varying magnetic field along with the electric field penetration depth and the activated volume for the specific coil parameters. A deeper stimulation with an acceptable spatial spread can be obtained by controlling the intersection of the fields by finding the optimal position and orientation of the two coils. Moreover, by changing the voltage ratio of the coils, and not their mechanical orientation, the intended area can be dynamically driven. The computational results show that the TI technique is an efficient approach to resolve the electric field depth-focality trade-off, which can be a reasonable alternative to complex coil designs. The system proposed in this paper shows a great promise for a more dynamic and focused magnetic stimulation.

We develop a lexicon of keywords associated with risk communication about the pandemic response, then use automated coding to identify message content and message structural features. We conduct chi-square analyses and negative binomial regression modeling to identify the strategies used by official risk communicators that respectively increase and decrease message retransmission. Findings show systematic changes in message strategies over time and identify key features that affect message passing, both positively and negatively. These results have the potential to aid in message design strategies as the pandemic continues, or in similar future events.The expansion of agriculture is a major driver of biodiversity loss worldwide, through changes generated in the landscape. Although according to the Intermediate Disturbance Hypothesis (IDH) plant richness might peak at intermediate disturbance levels, functional diversity might increase with landscape heterogeneity and decrease with the intensity of disturbance. Here, we evaluated the associations of landscape composition (percentage of crops) and heterogeneity (diversity of land-cover classes) with plant taxonomical diversity (richness, diversity, evenness), local contribution to beta diversity, and functional diversity (functional richness, evenness, divergence and dispersion) in 20 wild Olea europaea communities appearing within agricultural landscapes of Mallorall, our study highlights the importance of considering several indices of taxonomical and functional diversity to deeply understand the complex relationships between ecosystems functions and landscape context.The Quick Environmental Exposure and Sensitivity Inventory (QEESI) is a validated questionnaire used worldwide to assess intolerances to chemicals, foods, and drugs, and has emerged as the gold standard for assessing chemical intolerance (CI). Despite a reported prevalence of 8-33%, epidemiological studies and routine primary care clinics rarely assess CI. To help address this gap, we developed the Brief Environmental Exposure and Sensitivity Inventory (BREESI)-a 3-item CI screening tool. We tested the BREESI's potential to predict whether an individual is likely to be classified as chemically intolerant if administered the 50-item QEESI. We recruited 293 participants from a university-based primary care clinic and through online participation. The statistical sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values of the BREESI were calculated against the validated QEESI. Ninety percent (90%) of participants answering "yes" to all three items on the BREESI fit the QEESI criteria for being very suggestive of CI based upon their chemical intolerance and symptom scores (positive predictive value = 90%). For participants endorsing two items, 93% were classified as either very suggestive (39%) or suggestive (54%) of CI (positive predictive value = 87%). Of those endorsing only one item, 13% were classified as very suggestive of CI, and 70% as suggestive. Of those answering "No" to all of the BREESI items, 95% were classified as not suggestive of CI (i.e., negative predictive value = 95%). The BREESI is a versatile screening tool for assessing potential CI useful for clinical and epidemiological applications, based upon individuals' past adverse responses in a variety of settings. Just as health care professionals routinely inquire about latex allergy to prevent adverse reactions, the BREESI provides an essential screen for CI. Together, the BREESI and QEESI provide new diagnostic tools that may help predict and prevent future adverse reactions to chemicals, foods, and drugs.
    The recommendations of experts who write review articles are a critical determinant of the adaptation of new treatments by clinicians. Several types of reviews exist (narrative, systematic, meta-analytic), and some of these are more vulnerable to researcher bias than others. Recently, the interest in nutritional interventions in psychiatry has increased and many experts, who are often active researchers on this topic, have come to strong conclusions about the benefits of a healthy diet on depression. In a young and active field of study, we aimed to investigate whether the strength of an author's conclusion is associated with the type of review article they wrote.

    Systematic searches were performed in PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and Google Scholar for narrative reviews and systematic reviews with and without meta-analyses on the effects of diet on depression (final search date May 30th, 2020). Conclusions were extracted from the abstract and discussion section and rate.

    We have shown that narrative reviews come to stronger conclusions about the benefits of a healthy diet on depression despite inconclusive evidence. This finding empirically underscores the importance of a systematic method for summarizing the evidence of a field of study. Here, we evaluated the associations of landscape composition (percentage of crops) and heterogeneity (diversity of land-cover classes) with plant taxonomical diversity (richness, diversity, evenness), local contribution to beta diversity, and functional diversity (functional richness, evenness, divergence and dispersion) in 20 wild Olea europaea communities appearing within agricultural landscapes of Mallorall, our study highlights the importance of considering several indices of taxonomical and functional diversity to deeply understand the complex relationships between ecosystems functions and landscape context.The Quick Environmental Exposure and Sensitivity Inventory (QEESI) is a validated questionnaire used worldwide to assess intolerances to chemicals, foods, and drugs, and has emerged as the gold standard for assessing chemical intolerance (CI). Despite a reported prevalence of 8-33%, epidemiological studies and routine primary care clinics rarely assess CI. To help address this gap, we developed the Brief Environmental Exposure and Sensitivity Inventory (BREESI)-a 3-item CI screening tool. We tested the BREESI's potential to predict whether an individual is likely to be classified as chemically intolerant if administered the 50-item QEESI. We recruited 293 participants from a university-based primary care clinic and through online participation. The statistical sensitivity, specificity, and positive and negative predictive values of the BREESI were calculated against the validated QEESI. Ninety percent (90%) of participants answering "yes" to all three items on the BREESI fit the QEESI criteria for being very suggestive of CI based upon their chemical intolerance and symptom scores (positive predictive value = 90%). For participants endorsing two items, 93% were classified as either very suggestive (39%) or suggestive (54%) of CI (positive predictive value = 87%). Of those endorsing only one item, 13% were classified as very suggestive of CI, and 70% as suggestive. Of those answering "No" to all of the BREESI items, 95% were classified as not suggestive of CI (i.e., negative predictive value = 95%). The BREESI is a versatile screening tool for assessing potential CI useful for clinical and epidemiological applications, based upon individuals' past adverse responses in a variety of settings. Just as health care professionals routinely inquire about latex allergy to prevent adverse reactions, the BREESI provides an essential screen for CI. Together, the BREESI and QEESI provide new diagnostic tools that may help predict and prevent future adverse reactions to chemicals, foods, and drugs. The recommendations of experts who write review articles are a critical determinant of the adaptation of new treatments by clinicians. Several types of reviews exist (narrative, systematic, meta-analytic), and some of these are more vulnerable to researcher bias than others. Recently, the interest in nutritional interventions in psychiatry has increased and many experts, who are often active researchers on this topic, have come to strong conclusions about the benefits of a healthy diet on depression. In a young and active field of study, we aimed to investigate whether the strength of an author's conclusion is associated with the type of review article they wrote. Systematic searches were performed in PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and Google Scholar for narrative reviews and systematic reviews with and without meta-analyses on the effects of diet on depression (final search date May 30th, 2020). Conclusions were extracted from the abstract and discussion section and rate. We have shown that narrative reviews come to stronger conclusions about the benefits of a healthy diet on depression despite inconclusive evidence. This finding empirically underscores the importance of a systematic method for summarizing the evidence of a field of study. Journal editors may want to reconsider publishing narrative reviews before meta-analytic reviews are available.   • Face to face communication is interactive, and involves continuous feedforward and feedback of information, thoughts, and feelings to the opposite party. To accurately assess the neural processing underlying these interactions, synchronous and simultaneous recording of the brain activity from both parties is needed, a method known as hyperscanning. Here, we investigated the neural processing underlying nonverbal face-to-face communication using a magnetoencephalographic (MEG) hyperscanning system, comprising two fiber optically connected MEGs. Eight pairs of subjects participated. Each individual in each pair viewed a combined 80 randomized 20 s trials of 40 real-time and 40 recorded (hereafter, real and simulated, respectively) videos of the opposite party's face. Non-verbal communication through actions such as gaze, eye blinks, and facial expression was intrinsically only possible during real videos. After each trial, subjects individually subjectively discriminated whether the viewed video was real or simulated. Overall subjective discrimination accuracies were slightly but significantly above chance level. Statistical analysis of brain activity revealed a significant three way interaction between theta-band rhythm amplitude, video type, and subjective discrimination response in the right frontal cortex. Additionally, when subjects responded that videos were simulated, theta activity was significantly lower for real videos compared with simulated videos (p = 0.01). This result not only demonstrates the importance of right frontal theta activity during non-verbal communication, but also indicates the existence of unconscious, semi-automated neural processing during non-verbal communication that underlies one's ability to subjectively discriminate whether or not the opposite party is real.Understanding the fundamental roles of brainstem function resulting in proper motor control is critical to motor-rehabilitation after brain injuries. Assessment of CL during real-world unconstrained HMI operation, however, requires the use of a wireless dry-electrode EEG system which provides easier electrode application and untethered movement. However, the test-retest reliability of wireless dry-electrode systems to quantify CL has not been explored. Ensuring the consistent capture of CL-related signals across multiple sessions is critical if these devices are to be used to assess how improvements logy developers in their design of future HMIs.Lack of sensory feedback is one of the main issues contributing to lack of control and embodiment for upper-limb prostheses. Noninvasive nerve stimulation may help amputees overcome such limitations by providing a degree of somatotopic feedback, however its neural correlates have been only partly characterized so far. While the effects of median nerve stimulation have been studied, little attention has been given to ulnar nerve and bipolar stimulation, which might provide a finer modulation of the somatotopic sensation. Here, monopolar and bipolar transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is repeatedly applied to the ulnar and median nerves and elicited Somatosensory Evoked Potentials (SEPs) are characterized by means of electroencephalography (EEG). Clear P50, P150 and P270 SEPs were outlined, with significantly different amplitudes between configurations. In each case scalp topographies showed a strong contralateral activation in the early phase after the stimulus onset (40-100 ms), compatible with generators in the somatosensory cortex and in accordance to previous literature on actual tactile stimuli, which gives way to a frontal-central distribution at long latencies (130-190 ms). These findings, although needing further validation with a larger pool of subjects, show that bipolar TENS could have potential applications in improving prosthesis control with tactile feedback.Error-related potentials (ErrPs) can reflect the brain's response to errors. This may seriously affect the recognition accuracy of the ErrPs in practical applications. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate how people respond to different types of visual stimulations. Nineteen participants were recruited in the ErrPs-based tasks with two visual stimulation modes (dynamic and static). The ErrPs were analyzed and the feature values (N1, P2, P3, N6 and P8, named by the occurrence time) were statistically compared. The results showed that the difference between correctness and error was reflected in P3, N6, P8 in dynamic stimulation; and N1, P3, N6 and P8 in static stimulation.

  • Despite various challenges that hinder the implementation of high-tech molecular methods in resource-limited settings, we have been able to implement and achieve International Organization for Standardization 151892012 accreditation for genotypic HIV drug resistance testing in our facility. At the Center for Human Virology and Genomics, Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, Nigeria has recorded a high sequencing success rate and good quality sequence data. This was achieved by optimizing laboratory processes from 2008 to the current date. We have optimized sample preparation, RT-PCR, several post-PCR processes, and the cycle sequencing to improve the sensitivity of amplification even with limited plasma samples and low viral copy numbers. The optimized workflow maximizes output, minimizes reagent wastage, and achieves substantial cost savings without compromising the quality of the sequence data. Our performance at our last external quality assurance program is a testimonial to the efficiency of the workflow. For the 5-sample panel, each with 67-68 mutation points evaluated, we scored 100% for all 5 specimens. Our optimized laboratory workflow is thus documented to support laboratories and to help researchers achieve excellent results the first time and eliminate contamination while minimizing the wastage of costly sequencing reagents.Microbial monitoring on the International Space Station (ISS) is essential to keep astronauts healthy. This report presents the data from a validation study of a NASA-sponsored small business research initiative to develop a microgravity-compatible, automated water concentrator to be used on the ISS, which has been named the ISS Smart Sample Concentrator (iSSC). Efficiency and reproducibility of the iSSC were compared with a ground-based automated water concentrator and the standard Millipore manual filtration. All 3 assays were validated in silico before in vitro and in situ validations using PPLPP workflow extracted samples. Research funders and computing providers worldwide recognized the need to provide rapid and significant access to computational architectures. In this review, we discuss how the interplay of all of these factors is influencing the impact - both potential and realized - of biomolecular simulations in the fight against SARS-CoV-2.
    This study reports a single-institutional experience treating liver metastases with stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT).

    107 patients with 169 lesions were assessed to determine factors predictive for local control, radiographic response, and overall survival (OS). Machine learning techniques, univariate analysis, and the Kaplan-Meier method were utilized.

    Patients were treated with a relatively low median dose of 30 Gy in 3 fractions. Fractions were generally delivered once weekly. Median biologically effective dose (BED) was 60 Gy, and the median gross tumor volume (GTV) was 12.16 cc. Median follow-up was 7.36 months. 1-year local control was 75% via the Kaplan-Meier method. On follow-up imaging, 43%, 40%, and 17% of lesions were decreased, stable, and increased in size, respectively. 1-year OS was 46% and varied by primary tumor, with median OS of 34.3, 25.1, 12.5, and 4.6 months for ovarian, breast, colorectal, and lung primary tumors, respectively. Fractions were generally delivered once weekly. Median biologically effective dose (BED) was 60 Gy, and the median gross tumor volume (GTV) was 12.16 cc. Median follow-up was 7.36 months. 1-year local control was 75% via the Kaplan-Meier method.   • To characterize sarcomatoid cell carcinoma (SaC) in head and neck, explore the value of radiotherapy (RT) and chemotherapy, and build a nomogram to predict the prognosis.

    In total, 559 patients diagnosed with head and neck SaC from 2004 to 2015 were included from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results program. All the cases were divided into training (N = 313) and validation (N = 246) cohorts according to the year of diagnosis. The cases were analyzed on the age, site, sex, race, T stage, N stage, M stage, surgery, RT, and chemotherapy. Cancer-specific survival (CSS) and overall survival (OS) were compared among disease-related categories. The parameters significantly correlated with CSS were used to construct a nomogram.

    The multivariate analysis showed that age, T stage, N stage, and M stage were significantly correlated with CSS and OS. Overall, RT was correlated with improved CSS for Stage T3-4 and Stage N1-3. The subgroup analysis showed that RT was correlated with CSS in the Stage N1-3 patients after surgery while chemotherapy indicated an improved survival for Stage T3-4 and N1-3 patients without surgery. Twenty-four semen samples from four bulls with mean individual progressive motility (%) and sperm concentration (million/mL) of 77.1 ± 0.9 and 1,321.2 ± 84.7, respectively, were divided into Group I (control), and treatment groups viz. Groups II, III, and IV; with each group containing 150 ± 25 million dead/damaged spermatozoa. The IONPs-Abs complex was added at the ratio of 11 (0.5 μg/mL), 12 (1.0 μg/mL), and 14 (2.0 μg/mL), respectively, in the Groups II, III, and IV. To cope with this issue, researchers in the agricultural sector have implemented deficit irrigation strategies intended to reduce water consumption by increasing fruit quality. Almond is among the most popular tree nuts worldwide and also the most nut cultivated in Spain. Almond consumption, together with other nuts, has been widely associated with improvements in cardiovascular health, metabolic syndrome and diabetes owing to their bioactive compounds such as polyphenols. Water deficit strategies generate hydroSOStainable almonds, raised under water stress conditions, with high content of bioactive compounds. The aim of this work was to study the relationship between water stress, color and polyphenols in hydroSOStainable almonds. For this, instrumental color, total phenolic content and phenolic compounds were measured and correlated using Pearson's correlation.

  • We found that MANF expression and secretion are dramatically up-regulated during hepatic I/R. Hepatocyte-specific MANF knockout aggravates the I/R injury through the over-activated ER stress. The systemic administration of rhMANF before ischaemia has the potential to ameliorate I/R-triggered UPR and liver injury. Further study showed that MANF deficiency activated ATF4/CHOP and JNK/c-JUN/CHOP pathways, and rhMANF inhibited the activation of the two proapoptotic pathways caused by MANF deletion.

A total of nine species, belonging to four genera were collected, pressed, identified, and then analyzed microscopically. Both quantitative and qualitative characters of the pollen grains were recorded including polar and equatorial diameter, P/E ratio, number of colpi and pores, exine thickness and shapes of the pollen in both polar and equatorial view, and exine sculpturing using Leica microscope fitted with camera Meiji Infinity 1 and then analyzed statistically using software IBM SPSS Statistics 20. The results of the present study demonstrated the variations in polar and equatorial diameter, exine thickness, P/E ratio, pollen shape, and exine sculpturing of the studied species and highlighted the significance of pollen morphology as an identification tool. The present study may contribute to better understand the classification at genus level, which will support the future phylogenetic characterization of the family.
    The association between depression and poor medication adherence is based on cross-sectional studies and cohort studies that measure adherence rates after depression status is determined. However, depressive symptoms occur well before diagnosis. This study examined adherence patterns in the year before a depressive episode.

    This retrospective cohort study followed new metformin users identified in Alberta Health's administrative data between 2008 and 2018. Depressive episodes starting ≥1year after metformin initiation were identified using a validated case definition. Controls were randomly assigned a pseudo depression date. Adherence to oral antihyperglycemic medications was estimated using proportion of days covered (PDC) and group-based trajectory models to explore the association between depression and poor adherence (PDC<0.8).

    A depressive episode occurred in 17,418 (10.6%) of 165,056 new metformin users. Individuals with depression were more likely to have poor adherence compared to controls (adjusted odds ratio 1.21; 95% CI 1.17, 1.26). Five trajectories were identified nearly perfect adherence (PDC >0.95 [34.8% of cohort]), discontinued (PDC=0 [18.3% of cohort], poor initial adherence (PDC 0.75) that declined either rapidly (9.2% of cohort) or gradually (30.1% of cohort), and poor initial adherence (PDC 0.26) that increased gradually (7.6% of cohort). Individuals with depression were more likely to be in one of the four trajectories of poor adherence compared to controls (adjusted odds ratio 1.24; 95% CI 1.19-1.29).

Here, we report that expression of IL35 is correlated with higher microvessel density, distant metastasis and poor prognosis in GC. Moreover, in vitro tube formation assays were performed to show that IL35 may contribute to the tube formation abilities of human umbilical vein endothelial cells. IL12A was observed to be the dominant subunit in promotion of tube formation. IL12A also inhibited expression of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 1 and enhanced expression of plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 and insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 1 in a GC cell line. We analyzed 59 studies involving 14,335 patients treated with tofacitinib or baricitinib and 11,612 patients who received another active drug or placebo. The meta-analysis showed an odds ratio (OR) for VTE events of 0.29 (95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.10-0.84) overall for tofacitinib based on data from 10 clinical trials with 15 treatment arms; similar ORs were observed for the 10 mg/d dose (OR = 0.18; 95% CI = 0.02-1.60) and the 20 mg/d dose (OR = 0.19; 95% CI = 0.04-0.91). The ORs for VTE events for baricitinib were 3.39 (95% CI = 0.82-14.04) overall, 3.05 (95% CI = 0.12-75.43) for 2 mg, 3.64 (95% CI = 0.59-22.46) for 4 mg, and 3.0 (95% CI = 0.12-76.49) for 7 mg. The indirect meta-analysis comparing tofacitinib with baricitinib (10 clinical trials with 15 treatment arms) showed an OR for VTE events of 0.086 (95% CI = 0.02-0.51) for tofacitinib and a superior safety profile for VTE events.
