  • Sulfanilamide is a common antibacterial drug that is used in clinical practice and in the industry. However, its abuse has emerged as a serious problem in the aquaculture industry, and more predominantly in the poultry industry, where it is administered for therapeutic purposes or as a growth promoter. In this study, a novel technical platform, heat-assisted desorption-dielectric barrier discharge ionization mass spectrometry (HAD-DBDI-MS), was used to detect sulfanilamide in situ. A method for the rapid identification of five typical sulfanilamide drugs sulfamopyridine, sulfamethoxan, sulfamethoxoline, sulfamidine, and sulfamethoxazole was established after optimizing a series of parameters. Secondary mass spectrometry was used to distinguish the sulfanilamide drugs from one another and from other isomers. Our HAD-DBDI-MS method enhanced the sulfanilamide sensitivities by reducing the limits of detection by about 1-2 orders of magnitude compared to those obtained with the DBDI-MS method. As further research, the profiles of chicken feed with added sulfamopyridine standard as well those of commercial feed with added sulfamidine and sulfamethoxazole were obtained using HAD-DBDI-MS respectively. With the HAD-DBDI-MS method, sulfamopyridine could be directly detected in the complex chicken meat matrix. However, satisfactory results were not obtained when direct HAD-DBDI-MS was used for sulfamidine and sulfamethoxazole detection in the feed matrix. The identification ability was improved when methanol was introduced as the assisting solvent. In this method, chicken feed spiked with sulfamidine and sulfamethoxazole standards were pressed into tablets, and methanol was dropped on the tablet surface. The PCBs were extracted from aquatic product samples using a dichloromethane-n-hexane (11, v/v) mixture at 100 ℃ with two extraction cycles. The extracting solution was purified twice with 0.5 mL concentrated sulfuric acid. After concentration to a constant volume, the target compounds were detected by GC-HRMS and quantified by the isotope internal standard method. Under the optimized conditions, the relative standard deviations (RSDs) of the mean relative response factor (RRF) for the 32 PCBs in the range of 0.1-20 μg/L were less than 15%. The limits of quantification were 0.3-1.9 ng/kg. At three spiked levels (5, 20, and 50 ng/kg) in grass carp and sea bass, the recoveries of the 32 PCBs were between 71.9% and 119.0%, with the RSDs varying from 3.5% to 19.6%. This method effectively reduces the matrix interference and shows high sensitivity, good reproducibility, and stable recovery, thus proving useful for the detection of PCBs in aquatic products.A method for the determination of vitamin K1 and vitamin K2 in modulation milk powder was developed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled with post-column reduction. The samples were dissolved in water, lipase hydrolyzed, saponified with 2.5 mol/L sodium hydroxide solution and ethanol solution, extracted with n-hexane, and dissolved in methanol after concentration. The vitamin K were first separated on an Xbridge C18 column and then on a zinc powder reduction column, and detected using a fluorescence detector. The excitation and emission wavelengths were 326 nm and 432 nm, respectively. An external standard method was used for quantification. The results showed that the linearities of vitamin K1 and vitamin K2 was in the ranges of 0.0025-2.0 μg/mL and 0.01-2.0 μg/mL, respectively, with correlation coefficients both greater than 0.999. The spiked recoveries were 80.39%-94.39% and the precisions were 0.85%-3.98%. The limits of detection of vitamin K1 and vitamin K2 were 0.07 μg/100 g and 0.2 μg/100 g, respectively. The limits of quantification of vitamin K1 and vitamin K2 were 0.2 μg/100 g and 0.8 μg/100 g, respectively. The method has high sensitivity and good repeatability, and gives accurate results. It is suitable for the analysis and determination of the vitamin K1 and vitamin K2 in formula milk powder.

LNPs represent the most widely used delivery systems for RNA-based therapeutics, as evidenced by the clinical approvals of three LNP-RNA formulations, patisiran, BNT162b2, and mRNA-1273. This review covers recent advances of lipids, lipid derivatives, and lipid-derived macromolecules used in RNA delivery over the past several decades. We focus mainly on their chemical structures, synthetic routes, characterization, formulation methods, and structure-activity relationships. The current methods for monitoring in vivo Mg-alloy biodegradation are either invasive and/or costly, complex, or require large equipment and specially trained personnel, thus making real-time and point-of-care monitoring of Mg-alloy implants problematic. Therefore, innovative methods are critically needed. The objective of this research was to develop a novel, thin, and wearable visual H2 sensor prototype for noninvasive monitoring of in vivo Mg-implant biodegradation in medical research and clinical settings with a fast response time. In this work, we successfully demonstrate such a prototype composed of resazurin and catalytic bimetallic gold-palladium nanoparticles (Au-Pd NPs) incorporated into a thin agarose/alginate hydrogel matrix that rapidly changes color from blue to pink upon exposure to various levels of H2 at a constant flow rate. The irreversible redox reactions occurring in the sensor involve H2, in the presence of Au-Pd NPs, converting resazurin to resorufin.   • The aim of this study was to determine the influence of syringic acid (SA), a plant secondary metabolite (PSM), on the properties of soil contaminated with 2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid (MCPA) and the condition of two cucurbit species zucchini (C. pepo L. 'Atena Polka') and cucumber (C. sativus 'Cezar') grown on that soil. It was found that amendment with MCPA and MCPA + SA modified the soil physico-chemical properties. Content of N and K was significantly higher for variants amended with SA and/or MCPA, while P content was lower in variant amended with SA. The cucurbits demonstrated varied efficiencies in mitigating the phytotoxicity of the MCPA-treated soil. For soil amended with MCPA + SA, samples remediated with cucumber were characterized as slightly toxic or toxic (45.2%-81.5%), while those planted with zucchini were nontoxic or slightly toxic (-40.6%-47.8%). Development of cucumber seedlings was fully inhibited by MCPA, regardless of SA application, zucchini demonstrated enhanced growth in soil treated with MCPA + SA and no statistically significant differences between morphological parameters of MCPA + SA-treated zucchini in comparison to control plants were observed. The obtained findings suggest that the application of SA is a promising way to mitigate the toxic influence of MCPA in the soil, depending on the cultivated plant species.     The Amplatzer Vascular Plug (AVP) is a vascular occlusion device designed to provide optimal embolization in several fields of the endovascular surgery. A full literature review was conducted to analyze AVPs in comparison with coils for the prevention of endoleaks during endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair.

    A systematic review was designed under PRISMA statement guidelines for systematic reviews and meta-analyses. The results were updated with a subsequent electronic search using Medline and Scopus databases up to December 2019.

    Eighteen articles making this comparison were found. In 79.7% of the cases, the target vessel was the internal iliac artery; in 1.6%, the common iliac artery; and in 16.7%, the inferior mesenteric artery. Risk of complications (buttock claudication, groin hematoma, endoleaks, and erectile dysfunction) after AVP was low. A cost comparison revealed that the mean cost for coils was around US$2262, while the average cost for the AVP was US$310.

    The aim of this study was to determine the influence of syringic acid (SA), a plant secondary metabolite (PSM), on the properties of soil contaminated with 2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid (MCPA) and the condition of two cucurbit species zucchini (C. pepo L. 'Atena Polka') and cucumber (C. sativus 'Cezar') grown on that soil. It was found that amendment with MCPA and MCPA + SA modified the soil physico-chemical properties. Content of N and K was significantly higher for variants amended with SA and/or MCPA, while P content was lower in variant amended with SA. The cucurbits demonstrated varied efficiencies in mitigating the phytotoxicity of the MCPA-treated soil. For soil amended with MCPA + SA, samples remediated with cucumber were characterized as slightly toxic or toxic (45.2%-81.5%), while those planted with zucchini were nontoxic or slightly toxic (-40.6%-47.8%). Development of cucumber seedlings was fully inhibited by MCPA, regardless of SA application, zucchini demonstrated enhanced growth in soil treated with MCPA + SA and no statistically significant differences between morphological parameters of MCPA + SA-treated zucchini in comparison to control plants were observed. The obtained findings suggest that the application of SA is a promising way to mitigate the toxic influence of MCPA in the soil, depending on the cultivated plant species.     Hemolacria is a rare condition that is characterized by the presence of blood in tears. It is a rare condition due to which insufficient literature and resources are present. Therefore, its prevalence and predilection for a specific gender, race or age remain uncertain. Hemolacria is one of the most alarming symptoms in ophthalmology, associated with multiple underlying etiologies and diseases.

    We report an unusual case of a 12-year-old female patient who experienced episodic bilateral ****** tears for 3 days, which was associated with epistaxis. The patient's condition was thoroughly evaluated, and all investigations were unremarkable. The patient was then referred to an ophthalmologist for evaluation, and a slit-lamp examination was also unremarkable.     Consumption patterns of people around the world have been tremendously affected due to the COVID-19 outbreak since December 2019. Previous studies validated the influence of both internal and external factors on consumer behaviour. However, due to the lack of empirical research, this study explored the influence of external factor such as COVID-19 on consumer purchase behaviour, economic and financial situation. In addition, the study investigated how crisis perception and consumption pattern vary due to demographic variables.

    A convenience sampling technique was used and a total of 340 responses were collected from three countries, e.g., Bangladesh (n = 129), India (n = 122), and Pakistan (n = 89) using a structured questionnaire. The respondents rated the items, collected from relevant past studies, on a 5 point Likert scale ranging from highly disagree to highly agree.

    Exploratory factor analysis summarized all the measurement items into seven main factors from which two factors were removed due to lcademicians, marketers and decision-makers to understand different facets of consumer behaviour in three contagious countries namely Bangladesh, India and Pakistan in South Asia.

Kindergarten principals and teachers make extra effort to maintain their education performance. This research aims to identify problems of the "learning from home" policy in kindergarten education and formulate possible solutions to overcome them. It involved 15 respondents from different regions in Indonesia. Data were collected through several methods, including face-to-face interviews, phone interviews, and online interviews through messaging services. The research result showed that many kindergarten management boards encountered difficulties in fulfilling planned education schedules and had the low achievement of objective targets. The problems existed in teachers, parents, and mainly students. Most teachers faced problems in creating interactive education materials and conducting an evaluation. Parents had hard times in assisting their children due to their busy activities and low pedagogical competence. Children had hard times due to limited resources for online learning. This research suggests solutions such as improving the mastery of information and communication technology (ICT), especially for teachers, parents, and children. However, the education system's long-term reform is needed to prepare for facing the possible catastrophe that affects the education system. Based on previous studies, we focused on loneliness, intolerance of uncertainty and emotion estimation biases as potential predictors of elevated depression levels. During the general lockdown in April 2020, 551 participants reported their psychological health by means of various online questionnaires and an implicit task. Out of these participants, 129 took part in a second phase in June 2020. Subjective loneliness during the lockdown rather than objective isolation was the strongest predictor of symptoms of depression 5 weeks later. Younger age and health related worry also predicted higher non-clinical levels of depression and emotional distress. The results support the diathesis-stress model, which posits that a combination of preexisting vulnerabilities along with stressors such as negative life events are among the factors affecting the development of psychopathology. Moreover, our results correspond with those of previous studies conducted worldwide during the COVID-19 pandemic. The present study investigated whether bilingualism improves PT in males more strongly than in females. In total, 108 bilingual and 108 matched monolingual adults, with equal numbers of males and females, filled in the PT subscale of the Interpersonal Reactivity index. While monolinguals showed the typical result of females scoring higher on PT than males, scores of male and female bilinguals did not differ, with both bilingual groups scoring as high as female monolinguals. Employing template analysis, we defined organizational purpose as "an organization's reason for being characterized by significance, aspiration, direction, unification, and motivation." Moreover, we proposed an explanatory conceptual model, including drivers and outcomes of purpose, important boundary conditions, and explanatory mechanisms. Drawing on self-determination theory, person-organization fit theory, job characteristics theory, and conservation of resources theory, we were able to explain how and under what conditions these concepts are related to organizational purpose. In doing so, our research contributes to advancing the knowledge and understanding of organizational purpose and its effects on human lives within and outside organizations. Based on previous studies, we focused on loneliness, intolerance of uncertainty and emotion estimation biases as potential predictors of elevated depression levels. During the general lockdown in April 2020, 551 participants reported their psychological health by means of various online questionnaires and an implicit task. Out of these participants, 129 took part in a second phase in June 2020. Subjective loneliness during the lockdown rather than objective isolation was the strongest predictor of symptoms of depression 5 weeks later. Younger age and health related worry also predicted higher non-clinical levels of depression and emotional distress. Employing template analysis, we defined organizational purpose as "an organization's reason for being characterized by significance, aspiration, direction, unification, and motivation." Moreover, we proposed an explanatory conceptual model, including drivers and outcomes of purpose, important boundary conditions, and explanatory mechanisms. Drawing on self-determination theory, person-organization fit theory, job characteristics theory, and conservation of resources theory, we were able to explain how and under what conditions these concepts are related to organizational purpose. In doing so, our research contributes to advancing the knowledge and understanding of organizational purpose and its effects on human lives within and outside organizations. Our study thereby enhances the understanding of the role of organizations in society and helps in evaluating whether organizations take responsibility by living their purpose in the society they are part of.   • Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system (CNS), characterized by demyelination, gliosis, and neurodegeneration. While the currently available disease-modifying therapies effectively suppress the immune attack on the CNS, there are no therapies to date that directly mitigate neurodegeneration. Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) is a small peptide hormone that maintains glucose homeostasis. A novel GLP-1 receptor (GLP-1R) agonist, NLY01, was recently shown to have neuroprotective effects in the animal models of Parkinson's disease and is now in a phase 2 clinical trial. In this study, we investigated the therapeutic potential of NLY01 in a mouse model of MS, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE). Our data show that NLY01 delays the onset and attenuates the severity of EAE in a prevention paradigm, when given before disease onset. NLY01 inhibits the activation of immune cells in the spleen and reduces their trafficking into the CNS. In addition, we show that NLY01 suppresses the production of chemokines that are involved in leukocyte recruitment to the site of inflammation. The anti-inflammatory effect of NLY01 at the early stage of EAE may block the expression of the genes associated with neurotoxic astrocytes in the optic nerves, thereby preventing retinal ganglion cell (RGC) loss in the progressive stage of EAE. In the therapeutic paradigm, NLY01 significantly decreases the clinical score and second attack in a model of relapsing-remitting EAE.     Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis is an emerging complication among intensive care unit (ICU) patients with COVID-19 (CAPA). In the present study, all CAPA cases during the first year of the pandemic were reviewed in critically ill patients at a 650-bed tertiary Greek COVID-19 referencehospital.

    Data regarding patients admitted to the ICU of Attikon Hospital in Athens, Greece, between 22March 2020 and 28 February 2021 with a positive PCR for SARS-CoV-2 infection were reviewed. Clinical and microbiological records were analysed including demographic, clinical, laboratory and radiological features, treatment and outcomes. Costs of around 9 100 million € yr-1 (for value of statistical life approach - VSL) and 1 825 million € yr-1 (for value of life year approach - VOLY) were estimated for PM and NO2 all-cause burden of disease. For PM2.5 cause-specific mortality, a cost of around 3 475 million € yr-1 (for VSL approach) and 851 million € yr-1 (for VOLY approach) were estimated. A breast cancer pattern-of-care study was conducted to document the socio-demographic profiles of patients and tumour characteristics, measure delays in care, and assess the status of dissemination and impact of state-of-the-art management. The retrospective study conducted among 2120 breast cancer patients registered during 2008-17 at the two premier-most oncology centres (Centre Mohammed VI or CM-VI and Institut National d'Oncologie or INO) also measured temporal trends of the different variables. Median age (49 years) and other socio-demographic characteristics of the patients remained constant over time. A significant improvement in coverage of the state-financed health insurance scheme for indigent populations was observed over time. Median interval between onset of symptoms and first medical consultation was 6 months with a significant reduction over time. Information on staging and molecular profile were available for more than 90% and 80% of the patients respectively. Approximately 55% of the patients presented at stage I/II and proportion of triple-negative cancers was 16%; neither showing any appreciable temporal variation. Treatment information was available for more than 90% of the patients; 69% received surgery with chemotherapy and/or radiation. Treatment was tailored to stage and molecular profiles, though breast conservation therapy was offered to less than one-fifth. Unfortunately, random feature maps for the itemset kernel and dot product kernels cannot approximate the item-multiset kernel. We thus develop a method that converts an item-multiset kernel into an itemset kernel, enabling the item-multiset kernel to be approximated by using a random feature map for the itemset kernel. We propose two random feature maps for the itemset kernel, which run faster and are more memory efficient than the existing feature map for the itemset kernel. They also generate sparse random features when the original (input) feature vector is sparse and thus linear models using proposed methods . Experiments using real-world datasets demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed methodology linear models using the proposed random feature maps ran from 10 to 100 times faster than ones based on existing methods.

A breast cancer pattern-of-care study was conducted to document the socio-demographic profiles of patients and tumour characteristics, measure delays in care, and assess the status of dissemination and impact of state-of-the-art management. The retrospective study conducted among 2120 breast cancer patients registered during 2008-17 at the two premier-most oncology centres (Centre Mohammed VI or CM-VI and Institut National d'Oncologie or INO) also measured temporal trends of the different variables. Median age (49 years) and other socio-demographic characteristics of the patients remained constant over time. A significant improvement in coverage of the state-financed health insurance scheme for indigent populations was observed over time. Median interval between onset of symptoms and first medical consultation was 6 months with a significant reduction over time. Information on staging and molecular profile were available for more than 90% and 80% of the patients respectively. Approximately 55% of the patients presented at stage I/II and proportion of triple-negative cancers was 16%; neither showing any appreciable temporal variation. Treatment information was available for more than 90% of the patients; 69% received surgery with chemotherapy and/or radiation. Treatment was tailored to stage and molecular profiles, though breast conservation therapy was offered to less than one-fifth. When compared using the EUSOMA quality indicators for breast cancer management, INO performed better than CM-VI. This was reflected in nearly 25% difference in 5-year disease-free survival for early-stage cancers between the centres.Random feature maps are a promising tool for large-scale kernel methods. Since most random feature maps generate dense random features causing memory explosion, it is hard to apply them to very-large-scale sparse datasets. The factorization machines and related models, which use feature combinations efficiently, scale well for large-scale sparse datasets and have been used in many applications. However, their optimization problems are typically non-convex. Therefore, although they are optimized by using gradient-based iterative methods, such methods cannot find global optimum solutions in general and require a large number of iterations for convergence. In this paper, we define the item-multiset kernel, which is a generalization of the itemset kernel and dot product kernels. Unfortunately, random feature maps for the itemset kernel and dot product kernels cannot approximate the item-multiset kernel. We thus develop a method that converts an item-multiset kernel into an itemset kernel, enabling the item-multiset kernel to be approximated by using a random feature map for the itemset kernel. We propose two random feature maps for the itemset kernel, which run faster and are more memory efficient than the existing feature map for the itemset kernel. They also generate sparse random features when the original (input) feature vector is sparse and thus linear models using proposed methods . Experiments using real-world datasets demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed methodology linear models using the proposed random feature maps ran from 10 to 100 times faster than ones based on existing methods.

To achieve this, 560 students of the Pedagogy degree were evaluated with two questionnaires a questionnaire of satisfaction with the educational infrastructure and the teaching-learning process and a questionnaire on study techniques. Statistically significant differences were obtained, especially depending on the type of institution and the academic year. The students of private schools and earlier academic years were the ones who obtained the most satisfaction with the study techniques and with the infrastructure. Those from private centers also expressed more satisfaction with the teaching-learning processes. These results provide greater knowledge about the processes of self-regulation and external regulation of university learning and of their satisfaction with them, which can contribute to improving educational policies in Brazil.Despite treating depression with antidepressants, their effectiveness is often insufficient. The rational choice of antidepressants may be based on matching their mechanisms of action to the symptomatic profiles of depression, reflecting the heterogeneity of symptoms in different patients. The authors presented a series of cases of patients diagnosed with depression in whom at least one previous antidepressant treatment was shown to be ineffective before drug targeted symptom cluster-matching treatment (SCMT). The presented pilot study shows for the first time the effectiveness of SCMT in the different clusters of depressive symptoms. All the described patients obtained recovery from depressive symptoms after introducing drug-targeted SCMT. Once validated in clinical trials, SCMT might become an effective and rational method of selecting an antidepressant according to the individual profile of depressive symptoms, the mechanism of their formation, and the mechanism of drug action. To determine the effectiveness of vaccination by means of neutralizing antibody titers against JEV, a cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted among five to 15-year-old monastic school children in Mandalay, Myanmar. A total of 198 students who had received vaccines were recruited, and single-time investigation of anti-JEV IgG and neutralizing antibodies against wild-type JEV were determined using anti-JEV IgG ELISA and plaque reduction neutralization tests (PRNT50). All students 100% (198/198) showed positive results on the anti-JEV IgG ELISA, and 87% (172/198) of the students had neutralizing antibodies against JEV six months after immunization. The geometric mean titers of both IgG antibodies and neutralizing antibodies increased with the participants' age groups, and statistically significant differences in anti-JEV IgG titers were noted across age groups. In this study, we could not investigate the persistence of neutralizing antibodies as only single-time blood collection was done. This study, which is the first report of JEV vaccination among children in Myanmar, showed similar neutralizing antibody production rates among vaccinated individuals as did studies in other countries.In the past few decades, enormous efforts have been made to synthesize covalent polymer nano/microstructured materials with specific morphologies, due to the relationship between their structures and functions. Up to now, the formation of most of these structures often requires either templates or preorganization in order to construct a specific structure before, and then the subsequent removal of previous templates to form a desired structure, on account of the lack of "self-error-correcting" properties of reversible interactions in polymers. The above processes are time-consuming and tedious. A template-free, self-assembled strategy as a "bottom-up" route to fabricate well-defined nano/microstructures remains a challenge. Herein, we introduce the recent progress in template-free, self-assembled nano/microstructures formed by covalent two-dimensional (2D) polymers, such as polymer capsules, polymer films, polymer tubes and polymer rings.

The majority of environmental conditions change over time and therefore may result in variable selective effects. How temporally fluctuating environments impact the distribution of fitness effects and in turn population diversity is an unresolved question in evolutionary biology. Here, we employed continuous culturing using chemostats to establish environments that switch periodically between different nutrient limitations and compared the dynamics of selection to static conditions. We used the pooled Saccharomyces cerevisiae haploid gene deletion collection as a synthetic model for populations comprising thousands of unique genotypes. Using barcode sequencing (barseq), we find that static environments are uniquely characterized by a small number of high fitness genotypes that rapidly dominate the population leading to dramatic decreases in genetic diversity. By contrast, fluctuating environments are enriched in genotypes with neutral fitness effects and an absence of extreme fitness genotypes contributing to the maintenance of genetic diversity. We also identified a unique class of genotypes whose frequencies oscillate sinusoidally with a period matching the environmental fluctuation. Oscillatory behavior corresponds to large differences in short term fitness that are not observed across long timescales pointing to the importance of balancing selection in maintaining genetic diversity in fluctuating environments. Our results are consistent with a high degree of environmental specificity in the distribution of fitness effects and the combined effects of reduced and balancing selection in maintaining genetic diversity in the presence of variable selection.During the current formidable COVID-19 pandemic, it is appealing to address ideas that may invoke therapeutic interventions. Increasing evidence implicate Heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs) and Heparanase in various diseases and pathologies, including hypercoagulability states. Moreover, HSPGs and Heparanase are involved in several viral infections, in which they enhance cell entry and release of the viruses. Herein we discuss the molecular involvement of HSPGs and heparanase in SARS-CoV-2 infection, namely cell entry and release, and the accompanied coagulopathy complications, which assumedly could be blocked by heparanase inhibitors such as Heparin and Pixatimod.Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is associated with increased localized and generalized bone loss, but the complex genetic mechanism between them is still unknown.     Subjects were divided to Control-Healthy and Control-CV subgroups (consumed three regular hens' eggs/daily (249mg n-3 PUFAs/day)), and n-3-PUFAs-Healthy and n-3-PUFAs-CV subgroups (consumed three n-3 PUFAs enriched hen eggs/daily (1053mg n-3 PUFAs/day)) for 3weeks. Serum free fatty acids profile and high-sensitivity C reactive protein (hsCRP), interleukin 6 and 10 (IL-6, IL-10) and tumor necrosis factor alpha were measured. Total plasma protein and IgG N-glycome have been profiled before and after dietary protocols.
