Response-adapted randomized trials have used positron emission tomography-computed tomography to attempt to identify patients with early-stage favorable Hodgkin lymphoma (ESFHL) who could be treated with doxorubicin, bleomycin, vinblastine, and dacarbazine (ABVD) without radiation therapy (RT). While maximal efficacy is demonstrated with combined modality therapy, RT is often omitted in fear of late adverse effects; however, the application of modern RT could limit these toxic effects.

This pest causes significant losses, damaging plants through feeding and tospovirus vectoring. Thus, the proper management of F. schultzei is crucial to prevent economic losses, and knowledge of the within-field distribution patterns of F. schultzei can be used to improve this pest management. This study aimed to determine the within-field distribution (through semivariogram modeling and kriging interpolation) and the factors associated with F. schultzei abundance in open-field yellow melon crops. We surveyed four yellow melon fields located in Formoso do Araguaia (Tocantins state, North Brazil) for thrips abundance in various crop stages (vegetative, flowering, and fruiting) in 2015 and 2016. Twelve models were fitted and it was determined that F. schultzei counts were strongly aggregated. The median spatial dependence was 4.79 m (range 3.55 to 8.02 m). In the northeastern United States, two parasitoid species, Celatoria setosa (Coquillett) (Diptera Tachinidae) and Centistes diabroticae (Gahan) (Hymenoptera Braconidae) have been reported from A. vittatum, but their distribution is poorly known. To determine whether these parasitoid species are attacking A. vittatum in Pennsylvania and the amount of mortality they provide, we characterized the parasitoid dynamics in two distinct efforts. First, we reared parasitoids from beetles captured at two research farms. Second, we focused on one of these farms and dissected beetles to quantify both parasitoid and parasite species attacking A. vittatum. Both efforts confirmed Cl. setosa and Cn. diabroticae, and parasitism rates varied widely between locations and among years (4-60%). Unexpectedly, our dissections revealed that a potentially undescribed nematode species (Howardula sp.) as the most common parasite in the community. We also discovered gregarine protists. Despite being smaller than females, males were more commonly attacked by parasitic species, but we detected no relationship between the size of beetles and abundance of parasitic species in A. vittatum. This work provides a baseline understanding of the parasitoid and parasite community attacking A. vittatum and advances opportunities for conservation biological control using these natural-enemy species.

The exception is hospital-based mental health services where the biomedical model continues to prevail, in this context defined by high acuity and safety concerns. This review aims to identify the approaches to, and feasibility of, implementing recovery-oriented practice in hospital-based mental health services. A systematic review of the literature (2010-2019) identified seventeen studies of recovery-oriented practice implementation in hospital-based mental health services. One study was excluded based on quality assessment. Of the remaining studies, seven reported on staff training initiatives, four reported service user programmes facilitated by staff, and five were implementations of models of care. The findings indicate that it is feasible, albeit challenging, to implement recovery-oriented practice in hospital-based mental health services. More successful approaches are multimodal, applied over several years and have organizational support. The main barriers to implementation include resistance to change from the embedded, biomedical model, staff attitudes towards recovery, and an absence of consumer involvement in the implementation of recovery-oriented practice.DNA G-quadruplexes show a pronounced tendency to form higher-order structures, such as π-stacked dimers and aggregates with aromatic binding partners. Reliable methods for determining the structure of these non-covalent adducts are scarce. Here, we use artificial square-planar Cu(pyridine)4 complexes, covalently incorporated into tetramolecular G-quadruplexes, as rigid spin labels for detecting dimeric structures and measuring intermolecular Cu2+ -Cu2+ distances via pulsed dipolar EPR spectroscopy. A series of G-quadruplex dimers of different spatial dimensions, formed in tail-to-tail or head-to-head stacking mode, were unambiguously distinguished. Measured distances are in full agreement with results of molecular dynamics simulations. Furthermore, intercalation of two well-known G-quadruplex binders, PIPER and telomestatin, into G-quadruplex dimers resulting in sandwich complexes was investigated, and previously unknown binding modes were discovered. Additionally, we present evidence that free G-tetrads also intercalate into dimers. Our transition metal labeling approach, combined with pulsed EPR spectroscopy, opens new possibilities for examining structures of non-covalent DNA aggregates.Hepatitis is an important health problem worldwide. However, the relationship between hepatitis and HDGF remains unclear. This study aimed to elucidate the role of HDGF during hepatitis using concanavalin A (ConA)-induced hepatitis model. In cultured hepatocytes, ConA treatment-elicited HDGF upregulation at transcriptional level and promoted HDGF secretion while reducing intracellular HDGF protein level and cellular viability. Similarly, **** receiving ConA administration exhibited reduced hepatic HDGF expression and elevated circulating HDGF level, which was positively correlated with serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) levels. By using HDGF knockout (KO) ****, it was found the ConA-evoked cell death was prominently alleviated in KO compared with control. Besides, it was delineated HDGF ablation conferred protection by suppressing the ConA-induced neutrophils recruitment in livers. Above all, the ConA-mediated activation of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α)/interleukin-1β (IL-1β)/interleukin-6 (IL-6)/cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inflammatory signaling was significantly abrogated in KO ****. Treatment with recombinant HDGF (rHDGF) dose-dependently stimulated the expression of TNF-α/IL-1β/IL-6/COX-2 in hepatocytes, further supporting the pro-inflammatory function of HDGF. Finally, application of HDGF antibody not only attenuated the ConA-mediated inflammatory cascade in hepatocytes, but also ameliorated the ConA-induced hepatic necrosis and AST elevation in ****. Factors such as residual kidney function (RKF), nutritional and volume status, and cardiovascular control all contribute to the outcomes for dialysis patients. We propose that an optimal definition of adequacy should not only focus on one factor but rather the interconnection and contribution to our patient's individual specific goals and their overall quality of life.

BACKGROUND Low health literacy has been associated with worse health outcomes, but little is known about the effectiveness of health literacy interventions developed for pregnant women. AIM To assess the effectiveness of health literacy interventions on pregnancy outcomes through a systematic review of randomised controlled trials. METHODS Randomised controlled trials that assessed health literacy interventions designed to improve pregnancy outcomes were included. The study protocol was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42018094958). FINDINGS Of the 1512 records initially identified, 13 studies were included. Three reported on decision-aid interventions, six on face-to-face interventions and four on written interventions (including computer-based interventions or information leaflets). The primary outcomes of interest for this systematic review were knowledge (10/13 studies) and health literacy (2/13 studies) with one study not reporting either primary outcome. A significant improvement in knowledge was found across the 10 studies, however the two studies which measured health literacy only assessed health literacy at a single time-point. Secondary outcomes including health behaviours, fetal outcomes and health-service utilisation were reported in 11 studies, with inconsistent results. DISCUSSION Few health literacy interventions have been developed specifically for pregnant women. Although health literacy interventions have the potential to improve knowledge and pregnancy outcomes, current evidence is limited by inconsistent outcomes and measurement, and limited use of health literacy theory to inform intervention design and content. Few studies directly measured health literacy. CONCLUSION More research is needed to properly assess the effect of health literacy interventions on pregnancy outcomes. This research should include consideration of health literacy theory in the development of the interventions. BACKGROUND Sweden, along with other countries, is facing rising intrapartum intervention rates. AIM To explore the medicalisation of childbirth through women's preferences for and use of pain relief, and to investigate whether the presence of a birth plan had any impact on use of pain relief, rate of intervention, and satisfaction with the birth experience. METHODS The study was cross-sectional, and included 129 women with birth plans and 110 without, all of whom gave birth in one hospital in Sweden between March and June 2016. Data from birth plans and medical records was analysed through descriptive statistics and logistic regression. FINDINGS Parity rather than birth plan was a greater determinant for use of pain relief, frequency of interventions, and level of satisfaction; primiparas used more pain relief, had more interventions, and were less satisfied with their birth experiences than multiparas. Epidural analgesia was associated with a two to threefold increase in interventions, but 79.5% of all women had some form of intervention during birth, regardless of having an epidural or not. Women were generally highly satisfied with their birth experiences, women without epidural analgesia and interventions slightly more so. CONCLUSION Contrary to their initial plans, especially primiparas used more pharmacological pain relief than intended, and nearly all (94.6%) had some form of intervention during labour and birth. More interventions were associated with lower levels of satisfaction. The high rate of intervention in a healthy population of birthing women is disquieting and requires further attention. BACKGROUND The underlying pathways leading to stillbirth in low- and middle-income countries are not well understood. Context-specific understanding of how and why stillbirths occur is needed to prioritise interventions and identify barriers to their effective implementation and uptake. AIM To explore the contribution of contextual, individual, household-level and health system factors to stillbirth in Afghanistan. METHODS Using a qualitative approach, we conducted semi-structured in-depth interviews with women and men that experienced stillbirth, female elders, community health workers, healthcare providers, and government officials in Kabul province, Afghanistan between October-November 2017. We used thematic analysis to identify contributing factors and developed a conceptual map describing possible pathways to stillbirth. FINDINGS We found that low utilisation and access to healthcare was a key contributing factor, as were unmanaged conditions in pregnancy that increased women's risk of complications and stillbirth. Sociocultural factors related to the treatment of women and perceptions about medical interventions deprived women of interventions that could potentially prevent stillbirth. The quality of care from public and private providers during pregnancy and childbirth was a recurring concern exacerbated by health system constraints that led to unnecessary delays; while environmental factors linked to the ongoing conflict were also perceived to contribute to stillbirth. These pathways were underscored by social, cultural, economic factors and individual perceptions that contributed to the three-delays. BACKGROUND Low health literacy has been associated with worse health outcomes, but little is known about the effectiveness of health literacy interventions developed for pregnant women. AIM To assess the effectiveness of health literacy interventions on pregnancy outcomes through a systematic review of randomised controlled trials. METHODS Randomised controlled trials that assessed health literacy interventions designed to improve pregnancy outcomes were included. The study protocol was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42018094958). FINDINGS Of the 1512 records initially identified, 13 studies were included. Three reported on decision-aid interventions, six on face-to-face interventions and four on written interventions (including computer-based interventions or information leaflets). The primary outcomes of interest for this systematic review were knowledge (10/13 studies) and health literacy (2/13 studies) with one study not reporting either primary outcome. A significant improvement in knowledge was found across the 10 studies, however the two studies which measured health literacy only assessed health literacy at a single time-point. Secondary outcomes including health behaviours, fetal outcomes and health-service utilisation were reported in 11 studies, with inconsistent results. DISCUSSION Few health literacy interventions have been developed specifically for pregnant women. Although health literacy interventions have the potential to improve knowledge and pregnancy outcomes, current evidence is limited by inconsistent outcomes and measurement, and limited use of health literacy theory to inform intervention design and content. Few studies directly measured health literacy. CONCLUSION More research is needed to properly assess the effect of health literacy interventions on pregnancy outcomes. This research should include consideration of health literacy theory in the development of the interventions. BACKGROUND Sweden, along with other countries, is facing rising intrapartum intervention rates. AIM To explore the medicalisation of childbirth through women's preferences for and use of pain relief, and to investigate whether the presence of a birth plan had any impact on use of pain relief, rate of intervention, and satisfaction with the birth experience. METHODS The study was cross-sectional, and included 129 women with birth plans and 110 without, all of whom gave birth in one hospital in Sweden between March and June 2016. Data from birth plans and medical records was analysed through descriptive statistics and logistic regression. FINDINGS Parity rather than birth plan was a greater determinant for use of pain relief, frequency of interventions, and level of satisfaction; primiparas used more pain relief, had more interventions, and were less satisfied with their birth experiences than multiparas. Epidural analgesia was associated with a two to threefold increase in interventions, but 79.5% of all women had some form of intervention during birth, regardless of having an epidural or not. Women were generally highly satisfied with their birth experiences, women without epidural analgesia and interventions slightly more so. CONCLUSION Contrary to their initial plans, especially primiparas used more pharmacological pain relief than intended, and nearly all (94.6%) had some form of intervention during labour and birth. More interventions were associated with lower levels of satisfaction. The high rate of intervention in a healthy population of birthing women is disquieting and requires further attention. BACKGROUND The underlying pathways leading to stillbirth in low- and middle-income countries are not well understood. Context-specific understanding of how and why stillbirths occur is needed to prioritise interventions and identify barriers to their effective implementation and uptake. AIM To explore the contribution of contextual, individual, household-level and health system factors to stillbirth in Afghanistan. METHODS Using a qualitative approach, we conducted semi-structured in-depth interviews with women and men that experienced stillbirth, female elders, community health workers, healthcare providers, and government officials in Kabul province, Afghanistan between October-November 2017. We used thematic analysis to identify contributing factors and developed a conceptual map describing possible pathways to stillbirth. FINDINGS We found that low utilisation and access to healthcare was a key contributing factor, as were unmanaged conditions in pregnancy that increased women's risk of complications and stillbirth. Sociocultural factors related to the treatment of women and perceptions about medical interventions deprived women of interventions that could potentially prevent stillbirth. The quality of care from public and private providers during pregnancy and childbirth was a recurring concern exacerbated by health system constraints that led to unnecessary delays; while environmental factors linked to the ongoing conflict were also perceived to contribute to stillbirth. These pathways were underscored by social, cultural, economic factors and individual perceptions that contributed to the three-delays. We found 476 and 1002 differentially expressed genes across salinity conditions in the freshwater and brackish water populations, respectively. The major biological process involved in the salinity response of the freshwater population was the biosynthesis and metabolic processing of nitrogen-containing compounds, but that of the brackish water population was influenced by the chitin metabolic process. Although there is no treatment for intellectual disability, environmental enrichment (EE) and the administration of green tea extracts containing epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) improve cognition in mouse models and individuals with DS. Using proteome, and phosphoproteome analysis in the hippocampi of a DS mouse model (Ts65Dn), we investigated the possible mechanisms underlying the effects of green tea extracts, EE and their combination. Our results revealed disturbances in cognitive-related (synaptic proteins, neuronal projection, neuron development, microtubule), GTPase/kinase activity and chromatin proteins. Green tea extracts, EE, and their combination restored more than 70% of the phosphoprotein deregulation in Ts65Dn, and induced possible compensatory effects. Our downstream analyses indicate that re-establishment of a proper epigenetic state and rescue of the kinome deregulation may contribute to the cognitive rescue induced by green tea extracts.To test the association between bilateral nephrectomies in patients with autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (ARPKD) and long-term clinical outcome and to identify risk factors for severe outcomes, a dataset comprising 504 patients from the international registry study ARegPKD was analyzed for characteristics and complications of patients with very early (≤ 3 months; VEBNE) and early (4-15 months; EBNE) bilateral nephrectomies. Patients with very early dialysis (VED, onset ≤ 3 months) without bilateral nephrectomies and patients with total kidney volumes (TKV) comparable to VEBNE infants served as additional control groups. We identified 19 children with VEBNE, 9 with EBNE, 12 with VED and 11 in the TKV control group. VEBNE patients suffered more frequently from severe neurological complications in comparison to all control patients. Very early bilateral nephrectomies and documentation of severe hypotensive episodes were independent risk factors for severe neurological complications. Bilateral nephrectomies within the first 3 months of life are associated with a risk of severe neurological complications later in life. Here, we review the role of the microbiome in SOT focusing on its significance for transplant-associated complications such as allograft rejection and infections, and highlight its potential impact on immunosuppressive treatment. Moreover, we shed light on the emerging role of the microbiome as a diagnostic biomarker and therapeutic target and discuss current microbial intervention strategies. In addition, this review includes some practical considerations in designing clinical microbiome trials and offers some advice for the interpretation of the resulting data. However, there is no optimal treatment after progression for patients who have undergone first-line and subsequent chemotherapy. Anlotinib, a novel small molecule tyrosine kinase multitarget inhibitor, was approved by the China Food and Drug Administration as a third-line treatment for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in May 2018. Herein we report a case of an advanced thymic squamous cell carcinoma patient harboring EGFR exon 20 insertion who had previously received multiline therapy, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy as well as antiangiogenic therapy. Also as an angiogenesis inhibitor, anotinib had controlled his mediastinal mass after failure of the apatinib treatment. Compared with the control, the activities of complex III in all the strains, except ∆GtIsp and carabrone-resistant isolate 24-HN-1, were significantly decreased following treatment with carabrone at EC20 and EC80 in vitro (40%-50% and 70%-80%, respectively). The activities of mitochondrial respiratory chain complex III and the mitochondrial respiration oxygen consumption rates in all the strains, except ∆GtIsp and 24-HN-1, were higher with respect to the control when treated with carabrone at EC20 in vivo. Here, we review the role of the microbiome in SOT focusing on its significance for transplant-associated complications such as allograft rejection and infections, and highlight its potential impact on immunosuppressive treatment. Moreover, we shed light on the emerging role of the microbiome as a diagnostic biomarker and therapeutic target and discuss current microbial intervention strategies. In addition, this review includes some practical considerations in designing clinical microbiome trials and offers some advice for the interpretation of the resulting data. Background Widespread quick access to mechanical thrombectomy (MT) for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is one of the main challenges in stroke care. It is unclear if newly established MT units are required 24 h/7 d. Methods A prospectively maintained neuroendovascular procedures database in a high-volume comprehensive stroke center was reviewed from October 2019 through January 2020. Patients were included if they had sICAD (≥70% stenosis), failed medical management, and underwent intracranial stenting with R-onyx DES. Technical success was defined as the ability to deploy the device at the desired location and achievement of less then 30% residual stenosis. The primary outcome was the occurrence of complications within 72 h of the procedure (strokes, ischemic or hemorrhagic; and mortality). Secondary outcomes included rates of symptomatic and angiographic recurrence within 6 months of the procedure. Results A total of 18 consecutive patients (mean age, 66.6 years; 44.4% were females and 94.4% were Hispanic) were eligible for the analysis. Indication for treatment was recurrent strokes in 13 and recurrent transient ischemic attack (TIA) in 5. A total of 22 symptomatic lesions with a mean baseline stenosis percent (84.9 ± 9.6) were treated using 23 R-onyx DES in 19 procedures. All procedures were done under general anesthesia with 100% technical success, and no reported periprocedural strokes or death. Among 13 patients who had clinical follow-up, 1 (7.7%) patient had TIA. There were no reported ischemic or hemorrhagic strokes. Angiographic follow-up for 9 (50%) patients showed no in-stent restenosis. Conclusion The use of R-onyx DES in the treatment of sICAD is safe with high technical success rates. Large prospective multicenter trials with long-term follow-up are warranted.

NRC Report PIRS-0626 (https//doi.org/10.4224/40000364) describes how measured electron energy deposition spectra can be used to determine the electronic stopping power. The stopping power is obtained by comparing measured spectra with spectra calculated using Monte Carlo techniques. The stopping powers reported in PIRS-0626 were obtained using the EGS4 Monte Carlo code. Since then, the EGSnrc code has been released which has more accurate electron transport algorithms. We calculate the effect on the measured stopping powers of using EGSnrc instead of EGS4.

Newly diagnosed advanced-stage ovarian cancer patients are treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy, primary or intermediate cytoreductive surgery, and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC). Although the same median PFS was observed in both groups (10 months), a higher mean PFS was observed in the upfront group (11.9 vs. 9 months, p = 0.023).
The treatment of advanced ovarian cancer patients with upfront cytoreductive surgery plus HIPEC is feasible with the same survival results. Further, larger prospective studies need to verify our results.

Pulmonary lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma (LELC) is a rare subtype of primary lung cancer. The present study aims at investigating clinicopathological features and prognostic characteristics of the resected pulmonary LELC.
Patients with resected pulmonary LELC were identified in our hospital from December 2008 to December 2018. Data of these patients were retrospectively reviewed, clinicopathological features and prognostic characteristics were analyzed subsequently.
In total, 86 patients were enrolled in the study, including 39 (45.3%) males and 47 (54.7%) females. Most of the serum tumor markers were normal. Immunohistochemical staining result showed frequent differentiation traits of epithelial tissue such. Positive PD-L1 (15 of 19, 78.9%) and PD-1 (13 of 17, 76.5%) were also common, but cancer-related genetic mutation was scarce (1 of 47, 2.1%). Survival analyses demonstrated that the N stage (p = .011) and extent of resection (p = .023) were identified as independent predictive factors for overall survival.

However, the pharmacological effects of Δ -tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ -THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) have not been systematically screened or compared between juvenile and young adult rodents in a model of Tourette syndrome. The administration of 2,5-dimethoxy-4-iodoamphetamine (DOI) increases head twitch response (HTR) and ear scratch response (ESR) and has been proposed as an animal model useful to respectively study motor tics and premonitory urges associated with tic disorders. Comparing the potency of Δ -THC to inhibit DOI-induced repetitive behaviours, the rank order was ESR > grooming > HTR versus ESR = grooming > HTR in young adult versus juvenile mice. Δ -THC (5 mg·kg ) induced severe adverse effects in the form of cataleptic behaviour in control mice and significantly increased ESR in juveniles. The pharmacological effects of CBD have not been studied in models of Tourette syndrome. In juveniles, CBD had no effect on DOI-induced ESR and grooming behaviours. CBD alone induced side effects, significantly increasing the frequency of HTR in juveniles and young adults. Δ -THC efficaciously reverses peripheral but not central motor tics. Established electrical and optical techniques typically break down at this scale due to inherent physical limitations. This basic ability has motivated major efforts to harness ultrasound as a modality for large-scale brain imaging and modulation. These efforts have resulted in already-useful neuroscience tools, including high-resolution hemodynamic functional imaging, focused ultrasound neuromodulation, and local drug delivery. Furthermore, recent breakthroughs promise to connect ultrasound to neurons at the genetic level for biomolecular imaging and sonogenetic control. In this article, we review the state of the art and ongoing developments in ultrasonic neurotechnology, building from fundamental principles to current utility, open questions, and future potential.Faster, more reliable, and comfortably wearable personal devices are producing data from biosensors on an unprecedented scale. Combined with context and analytics, these signals hold great promise to advance neuroscience via real-world data. Here, we discuss wearable technology broadly and provide specific examples of activity patterns from electrodermal sensors found during sleep, stress, and seizures.We propose a new paradigm for dense functional imaging of brain activity to surmount the limitations of present methodologies. We term this approach "integrated neurophotonics"; it combines recent advances in microchip-based integrated photonic and electronic circuitry with those from optogenetics. This approach has the potential to enable lens-less functional imaging from within the brain itself to achieve dense, large-scale stimulation and recording of brain activity with cellular resolution at arbitrary depths. We perform a computational study of several prototype 3D architectures for implantable probe-array modules that are designed to provide fast and dense single-cell resolution (e.g., within a 1-mm3 volume of mouse cortex comprising ∼100,000 neurons). We describe progress toward realizing integrated neurophotonic imaging modules, which can be produced en masse with current semiconductor foundry protocols for chip manufacturing. Current vaccine candidates use inactivated SARS-CoV-2 viruses; therefore, it is important to understand the architecture of inactivated SARS-CoV-2. We have genetically and structurally characterized β-propiolactone-inactivated viruses from a propagated and purified clinical strain of SARS-CoV-2. We observed that the virus particles are roughly spherical or moderately pleiomorphic. On the tenth day after the onset of symptoms, she presented with painful polyarticular symmetric edema, as well as hyperpigmented lesions in the nasolabial fold. Chikungunya diagnosis was confirmed by the presence of IgM antibodies. In endemic countries for dengue and chikungunya, the possibility of co-infection exists, but it may go unnoticed. On the other hand, the co-infection may worsen the clinical course of these diseases. Therefore, physicians should evaluate the clinical and laboratory characteristics of both infections to be able to diagnose the coinfection for adequate management and to minimize complications.Langerhans cell histiocytosis is a rare pathology with different clinical manifestations in the neonatal period ranging from isolated bone lesions to systemic compromise. We report a case of Langerhans cell histiocytosis including a literature review focused on the clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and treatment. A one-month-old patient was brought to medical consultation with lymphadenopathy and skin lesions, which were initially managed as an infectious pathology. The disease continued its progression without improvement with the treatment until the patient died due to respiratory failure. The lymph node and skin biopsies revealed infiltration of atypical cells with positive immunohistochemistry for S100, CD1, and CD68 confirming Langerhans cell histiocytosis. This disorder represents a great challenge and, therefore, it is important to alert and sensitize medical teams about it for timely diagnosis and management.Eye burns due to the accidental application of pharmacological or nonpharmacological substances packaged in plastic dropper bottles have been described for more than three decades and continue to occur. These burns can cause potentially serious corneal injuries. We report the case of a patient who mistakenly applied salicylic acid to the right eye after confusing it with an eye lubricant, which caused him a severe corneal burn. Fortunately, after aggressive medical and surgical management (including oxygen therapy and amniotic membrane grafting), the visual results were good. We suggest conducting educational campaigns and taking legislative measures in our country to avoid packaging corrosive substances in this type of dropper bottle to reduce the risk of accidental burns.Rosacea is a chronic skin disorder that has been associated with unspecific etiological factors and diverse systemic manifestations. In this article, we describe one of these recipes for the treatment of smallpox and measles as a contribution to the history of medicine in Colombia.The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of somatic and germline pathogenic variants (PVs) in high-grade serous cancer (HGSC) and to demonstrate the technical feasibility and effectiveness of a large-scale, population-based tumor testing program. It involved a retrospective review of genetic test results in 600 consecutive HGSC tumor samples and a subsequent comparison of germline and tumor results in a subset of 200 individuals. Tumor testing was successful in 95% of samples (570/600) with at least one BRCA1/2 PV identified in 16% (93/570) of cases. Among the 200 paired cases, BRCA1/2 PVs were detected in 38 tumors (19%); 58% were somatic (22/38); and 42% were germline (16/38). There was 100% concordance between germline and tumor test results. This is the largest series of BRCA1/2 testing in HGSC (tumor-only and paired cohorts), reported to date, and our data show that an effectively designed and validated population-based tumor testing program can be used to determine both treatment eligibility and hereditary cancer risk.
Neurofilament light chain (NfL) has been established as a biomarker of axonal damage in many diseases of the central nervous system (CNS). Increased levels of serum NfL (sNfL) can derive as well from damage in the peripheral nervous system (PNS) as from CNS, but little is known about the quantities contributing to sNfL. Peripheral nerve damage may be reflected by an increase in sNfL levels, while the NfL CSF/serum ratio and NfL index decreases.
We collected serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from 21 Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) patients and measured NfL in serum and CSF and compared them with 19 neurologically healthy controls.
In general, NfL in CSF and serum was significantly higher in GBS patients. Serum NfL was higher in GBS patients admitted to the intensive care unit (P=0.02). Controls had a mean CSF/serum NfL ratio of 26.7 (ranging from 5.8 to 69.5) indicating a central origin of NfL. Three GBS patients had a similar range (23.9 to 42.7, mean 33.3) all of them with demyelinating pathology in the PNS.

As compared with patients with normoalbuminuria, multivariate analyses showed that the patients with microalbuminuria and macroalbuminuria had 2.38-, and 3.48-fold higher risk for in-hospital mortality, respectively (p < 0.001). Multivariate analyses also showed that UACR >102.6mg/g (OR 1.76; 95% CI, 0.99-3.16; p=0.011) was independently associated with in-hospital mortality, while a low eGFR was not associated.

There is no system at present that removes the biofilm from medical implants effectively and specifically from dental implants. Cavitation generated by a vibrating dental ultrasonic scaler tip can clean biomaterials such as dental implants. However, the cleaning process must be significantly accelerated for clinical applications. In this study we investigated whether the cavitation could be increased, by operating the scaler in carbonated water with different CO2 concentrations. The cavitation around an ultrasonic scaler tip was recorded with high speed imaging. Image analysis was used to calculate the area of cavitation. Bacterial biofilm was grown on surfaces and its removal was imaged with a high speed camera using the ultrasonic scaler in still and carbonated water. Cavitation increases significantly with increasing carbonation. Cavitation also started earlier around the tips when they were in carbonated water compared to non-carbonated water. Significantly more biofilm was removed when the scaler was operated in carbonated water. Overall, DUT effectively minimized the changes in MPs structure and protected the protein thermal stability and rheological behavior during the thawing process.
The impact of endothelial shear stress (ESS) on vessel remodeling in vessels implanted with bioresorbable scaffold (BRS) as compared to metallic drug-eluting stent (DES) remains elusive. The aim of this study was to determine whether the relationship between ESS and remodeling patterns differs in BRS from those seen in metallic DES at 3-year follow-up.
In the ABSORB II randomized trial, lesions were investigated by serial coronary angiography and intravascular ultrasound (IVUS). Three-dimensional reconstructions of coronary arteries post-procedure and at 3 years were performed. ESS was quantified using non-Newtonian steady flow simulation. IVUS cross-sections in device segment were matched using identical landmarks.
Paired ESS calculations post-procedure and at 3 years were feasible in 57 lesions in 56 patients. Post-procedure, median ESS at frame level was higher in BRS than in DES, with marginal statistical significance (0.97±0.48 vs. 0.75±0.39Pa, p=0.063). In the BRS arm, vessel area and lumen area showed larger increases in the highest tercile of median ESS post-procedure as compared to the lowest tercile. In contrast, in DES, no significant relationship between median ESS post-procedure and remodeling was observed. In multivariate analysis, smaller vessel area, larger lumen area, higher plaque burden post-procedure, and higher median ESS post-procedure were independently associated with expansive remodeling in matched frames. Only in BRS, younger age was an additional significant predictor of expansive remodeling.

This study describes the initiation of the Dutch Lung Cancer Audit for Lung Oncology (DLCA-L) and reports the first results of three years of clinical auditing.

The DLCA-L was initiated after the surgery and radiotherapy audit for lung cancer. In total, 33.788 NSCLC patients and 4.293 SCLC patients were registered in the DLCA-L from 2017 to 2019. Seventy-three (97 %) Dutch hospitals participated in the DLCA-L in 2019. The registry became nation-wide in 2020. The data quality improved over the years, with complete cases in 90 % of the NSCLC patients. In total, 15 quality indicators were established based on DLCA-L data to improve processes and clinical outcomes. An ex of registered patients and limited missing data resulted in better insights into hospital processes and outcomes of lung cancer care. Quality indicators were, with success, used to establish improvements and minimize hospital variation. The DLCA-L also provides hospitals real-world information on the use of (systemic) therapies.
As compared with patients with normoalbuminuria, multivariate analyses showed that the patients with microalbuminuria and macroalbuminuria had 2.38-, and 3.48-fold higher risk for in-hospital mortality, respectively (p < 0.001). Multivariate analyses also showed that UACR >102.6mg/g (OR 1.76; 95% CI, 0.99-3.16; p=0.011) was independently associated with in-hospital mortality, while a low eGFR was not associated. To the best of our knowledge, there is no case report or data published regarding COVID pneumonitis presenting initially as pneumothorax.There are 3 case reports published to-date (May 30, 2020) reporting secondary pneumothorax as complication in later stages of Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) secondary to COVID-19 in non-ventilated patients. We present a case of COVID-19 disease presenting as tension pneumothorax after a week of symptoms and developing a second pneumothorax on the contralateral side post mechanical ventilation.The purpose of the systematic review and meta-analysis was to analyze the existing evidence regarding the effect of crown-to-implant ratio (CIR) on the peri-implant crestal bone level change and implant survival. Randomized controlled clinical trials, prospective as well as retrospective studies with a minimum follow-up period of 12 months and 10 patients per group were included for this systematic review. Statistical analysis was performed to determine CIR effects on the peri-implant marginal bone level changes and implant survival. A total of 28 articles (14 prospective studies and 14 retrospective studies) from a database of 201 articles, with 2097 patients and 4350 implants, were included. A mean CIR ranging from 0.6 to 2.44 was presented by the study groups. A weighted mean implant loss of 0.19% per year and peri-implant marginal bone level change of 0.63 mm ± 0.55 over 46.8 ± 5.2 months was calculated from the included studies. The peri-implant marginal bone level change (p = 0.155) and the rate of implant loss (p = 0.245) showed a statistically insignificant difference between implant restorations of a high (>1.51) and low (1.51) or a low ( less then 1.51) CIR does not significantly affect the peri-implant marginal bone level change and implant survival rate. However, until further evidence becomes available, extrapolation to long term clinical success cannot be ascertained.
The purpose of this paper is to describe different acquired conditions necessitating lip reconstruction and present our ten-years' experience in managing the same at a tertiary care hospital.
Data of patients undergoing reconstruction of acquired lip defects from January 2009 to December 2019 were analyzed for demographic details, etiology, extent of defect, reconstruction option used, outcome and complications.
89 patients underwent lip reconstruction after excision of malignant tumors (81%), vascular malformations (12%) and traumatic injuries (7%). Mucosal and cutaneous lip defects were seen in 8 (9%) and 3 (3%) patients respectively, which were treated by primary closure, local advancement flap and tongue flap. Full thickness defects involving less than 1/3rd of lip (36%) and involving up to 2/3rd of lip (33%) were treated by primary closure, Abbe, Abbe Estlander flap and Karapenzic, Bernard Webster & peri-alar crescentic ***** respectively. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/Compk.html Sub-total lip defects were repaired using distant and flip, radial forearm flap was a choice in managing subtotal lip tissue loss.
To evaluate the efficacy of lycopene in the management of Oral Submucous Fibrosis (OSMF).
A comprehensive search was done in MEDLINE via PubMed, Cochrane, EBSCO-host and Google scholar from July 31st
1999 to July 31st
2019 to identify OSMF related clinical trials (Randomized and Non-randomized) involving lycopene as one of the intervention.
16 randomized control trials and 3 non-randomized control trials comprising 1181 subjects were included. The results of meta-analysis showed non-significant differences between lycopene and other interventions used in the treatment of OSMF.
The present review suggests that lycopene is a safe and equally effective therapeutic modality as compared to other interventions for patients with OSMF. Further well-designed clinical trials are required to accurately assess the effectiveness of lycopene as compared to other medicinal treatments in the management of OSMF.

This review aims at describing different types of hydrogels in context to their composition, fabrication techniques and other specific features along with an insight into the latest advancements including smart hydrogels, 3D printed, programmable, shape memory and self-healing hydrogels for their applicability as scaffold in maxillofacial bone and cartilage tissue regeneration.
Electronic database searches were undertaken on PubMed, Ovid, Medline, Embase, ProQuest and science direct for English language literature, published for application of hydrogels in maxillofacial bone and cartilage tissue engineering. The search items used in this article were hydrogel, bone and cartilage tissue engineering, maxillofacial, clinical trials. Reviews and in vitro studies were excluded.
Search for injectable hydrogel showed 4955 articles, when restricted to bone tissue engineering results were reduced to 463 and for cartilage engineering to 335; when we limited it to maxillofacial bone and cartilage tissue engineering, search results showed 49 articles to which 9 additional articles were included from references, after exclusion of in-vitro studies and duplicates 16 articles were obtained for our study. Similarly, for 3D printed hydrogels, result showed 1126 articles, which got restricted to 19 when searched for maxillofacial bone and cartilage engineering, then 2 additional articles were included directly from references, and finally after exclusion of the invitro studies and duplicates, a total of 5 articles were obtained.
Modifications in hydrogel can improve the mechanical properties, biocompatibility and unique chemistries for its use in bone and cartilage tissue engineering for future research.

When the thickness of the printed layer is 0.3 mm, the printing path is 45°, and with vertical printing direction at a printing temperature of 525 °C, the bending strength of the sample reaches 159.2 MPa, which exceeds the bending performance of injection molded parts by 20%. It was also found that the greater the tensile strength of the printed specimen, the more uniform the size of each grain, and the higher the crystallinity of the material. The highest crystallinity exceeded 30%, which reached the crystallinity of injection molded parts.We explore quantum chemical calculations for studying clusters of hydroxyl-functionalized cations kinetically stabilized by hydrogen bonding despite strongly repulsive electrostatic forces. In a comprehensive study, we calculate clusters of ammonium, piperidinium, pyrrolidinium, imidazolium, pyridinium, and imidazolium cations, which are prominent constituents of ionic liquids. All cations are decorated with hydroxy-alkyl chains allowing H-bond formation between ions of like charge. The cluster topologies comprise linear and cyclic clusters up to the size of hexamers. The ring structures exhibit cooperative hydrogen bonds opposing the repulsive Coulomb forces and leading to kinetic stability of the clusters. We discuss the importance of hydrogen bonding and dispersion forces for the stability of the differently sized clusters. We find the largest clusters when hydrogen bonding is maximized in cyclic topologies and dispersion interaction is properly taken into account. The kinetic stability of the clusters wit geometric and spectroscopic properties as sensitive probes of opposite- and like-charge interaction. Finally, we show that NMR proton chemical shifts and deuteron quadrupole coupling constants can be related to each other, allowing to predict properties which are not easily accessible by experiment.Most online tool condition monitoring (TCM) methods easily cause machining interference. To solve this problem, we propose a method based on the analysis of the spindle motor current signal of a machine tool. Firstly, cutting experiments under multi-conditions were carried out at a Fanuc vertical machining center, using the Fanuc Servo Guide software to obtain the spindle motor current data of the built-in current sensor of the machine tool, which can not only apply to the actual processing conditions but, also, save costs. Secondly, we propose the variational mode decomposition (VMD) algorithm for feature extraction, which can describe the tool conditions under different cutting conditions due to its excellent performance in processing the nonstationary current signal. In contrast with the popular wavelet packet decomposition (WPD) method, the VMD method was verified as a more effective signal-processing technique according to the experimental results. Thirdly, the most indicative features that relate to the tool condition were fed into the ensemble learning (EL) classifier to establish a nonlinear mapping relationship between the features and the tool wear level. Compared with existing TCM methods based on current sensor signals, the operation process and experimental results show that using the proposed method for the monitoring signal acquisition is suitable for the actual processing conditions, and the established tool wear prediction model has better performance in both accuracy and robustness due to its good generalization capability.Despite recent advances in clinical stem cell therapy applications based on human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs), potential teratoma formation due to the presence of residual undifferentiated hPSCs remains a serious risk factor that challenges widespread clinical application. To overcome this risk, a variety of approaches have been developed to eliminate the remaining undifferentiated hPSCs via selective cell death induction. Our study seeks to identify natural flavonoids that are more potent than quercetin (QC), to selectively induce hPSC death. Upon screening in-house flavonoids, luteolin (LUT) is found to be more potent than QC to eliminate hPSCs in a p53-dependent manner, but not hPSC-derived smooth muscle cells or perivascular progenitor cells. Particularly, treating human embryonic stem cell (hESC)-derived cardiomyocytes with LUT efficiently eliminates the residual hESCs and only results in marginal effects on cardiomyocyte (CM) functions, as determined by calcium influx. Case Report We present the case of a 43-year-old male, working as a shepherd, presenting with moderate dyspnea, chest pain and weight loss. Chest x-ray revealed an uncharacteristic massive right pleural effusion and thoracic computed tomography (CT) confirmed it, as well as revealing multiple cystic formations of various sizes and liquid density within the pleural fluid.
When the thickness of the printed layer is 0.3 mm, the printing path is 45°, and with vertical printing direction at a printing temperature of 525 °C, the bending strength of the sample reaches 159.2 MPa, which exceeds the bending performance of injection molded parts by 20%. It was also found that the greater the tensile strength of the printed specimen, the more uniform the size of each grain, and the higher the crystallinity of the material. The highest crystallinity exceeded 30%, which reached the crystallinity of injection molded parts.We explore quantum chemical calculations for studying clusters of hydroxyl-functionalized cations kinetically stabilized by hydrogen bonding despite strongly repulsive electrostatic forces. In a comprehensive study, we calculate clusters of ammonium, piperidinium, pyrrolidinium, imidazolium, pyridinium, and imidazolium cations, which are prominent constituents of ionic liquids. All cations are decorated with hydroxy-alkyl chains allowing H-bond formation between ions of like charge. The cluster topologies comprise linear and cyclic clusters up to the size of hexamers. The ring structures exhibit cooperative hydrogen bonds opposing the repulsive Coulomb forces and leading to kinetic stability of the clusters. We discuss the importance of hydrogen bonding and dispersion forces for the stability of the differently sized clusters. We find the largest clusters when hydrogen bonding is maximized in cyclic topologies and dispersion interaction is properly taken into account. The kinetic stability of the clusters wit geometric and spectroscopic properties as sensitive probes of opposite- and like-charge interaction. Finally, we show that NMR proton chemical shifts and deuteron quadrupole coupling constants can be related to each other, allowing to predict properties which are not easily accessible by experiment.Most online tool condition monitoring (TCM) methods easily cause machining interference. To solve this problem, we propose a method based on the analysis of the spindle motor current signal of a machine tool. Firstly, cutting experiments under multi-conditions were carried out at a Fanuc vertical machining center, using the Fanuc Servo Guide software to obtain the spindle motor current data of the built-in current sensor of the machine tool, which can not only apply to the actual processing conditions but, also, save costs. Secondly, we propose the variational mode decomposition (VMD) algorithm for feature extraction, which can describe the tool conditions under different cutting conditions due to its excellent performance in processing the nonstationary current signal. In contrast with the popular wavelet packet decomposition (WPD) method, the VMD method was verified as a more effective signal-processing technique according to the experimental results. Thirdly, the most indicative features that relate to the tool condition were fed into the ensemble learning (EL) classifier to establish a nonlinear mapping relationship between the features and the tool wear level. Compared with existing TCM methods based on current sensor signals, the operation process and experimental results show that using the proposed method for the monitoring signal acquisition is suitable for the actual processing conditions, and the established tool wear prediction model has better performance in both accuracy and robustness due to its good generalization capability.Despite recent advances in clinical stem cell therapy applications based on human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs), potential teratoma formation due to the presence of residual undifferentiated hPSCs remains a serious risk factor that challenges widespread clinical application. To overcome this risk, a variety of approaches have been developed to eliminate the remaining undifferentiated hPSCs via selective cell death induction. Our study seeks to identify natural flavonoids that are more potent than quercetin (QC), to selectively induce hPSC death. Upon screening in-house flavonoids, luteolin (LUT) is found to be more potent than QC to eliminate hPSCs in a p53-dependent manner, but not hPSC-derived smooth muscle cells or perivascular progenitor cells. Particularly, treating human embryonic stem cell (hESC)-derived cardiomyocytes with LUT efficiently eliminates the residual hESCs and only results in marginal effects on cardiomyocyte (CM) functions, as determined by calcium influx. The larvae were reared in the laboratory to the adult stage and identified through molecular and morphological approaches. Hermetia illucens (Linnaeus, 1758) and Hermetia fenestrata de Meijere, 1904 (Diptera Stratiomyidae) were identified from the sample provided. Extra-pulmonary intrathoracic hydatidosis can be a diagnostic challenge and a plain chest x-ray can be misleading. It can also lead to severe complications such as anaphylactic shock or tension pneumothorax. The purpose of this paper is to present a severe case of primary pleural hydatidosis, as well as discussing the difficulties that come with it during diagnosis and treatment.
