Here, we have proposed a novel strategy for its adhesion on the surface of the urinary catheter with the utilization of mannose-specific adhesin (Msa) protein in a way similar as uropathogenic bacteria interacts between Msa present on the tip of the type I fimbriae/pilus and the mannose moieties on the host epithelial cell surfaces. In this study, the intestinal microbiota and immune enzyme, nutritional flavor of muscle of crayfish in rice field, and pond cultivation model were compared in summer and autumn. The results of Shannon diversity and Chao 1 index of intestinal microbiota based on 16S sequencing analysis showed that the diversity and abundance in autumn were higher than in summer. And the diversity and abundance of intestinal microbiota of different model in the same season were different. Four dominant phyla (relative abundance > 5% at least in one sample) of the intestinal microbiota were Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, and Tenericutes. From summer to autumn, the intestinal immune enzyme activity of crayfish in both models showed a decreasing trend. In summer, the activity of catalase and alkaline phosphatase of crayfish cultured in the pond was significantly higher than that in rice field (P less then 0.05). In autumn, the activity of catalase and lysozyme of crayfish cultured in rice field was significantly higher than that in pond (P less then 0.05). The contents of umami and sweetish amino acids of muscle were higher in rice field than in pond, and the percentage of glutamic acid and alanine was significantly higher in rice field than in pond (P less then 0.05). Thus, rice field model can make crayfish a more stable intestinal environment and a better intestinal immune enzyme activity and muscular flavor. The surfaces of this Angkor sandstone monument are covered with deteriorated materials, broadly called "sediments" here, resulting from a long time of weathering of the sandstone. The sediments might adversely affect the ancient sandstone substratum of this cultural heritage, and the potential risk from them is essential information for current strategies and on-going protection and management. The extracted DNA from the sediment samples of this temple was used for Illumina high-throughput sequencing analysis, resulting in approximately 12 Gb of metagenomic dataset. The results of this shotgun metagenomic analysis provided a thorough information of the phylogenetic groups presented in the microbiome of the sediment samples, indicating that potential metabolic activities, involving different geomicrobiologicthe presence of active denitrification, but not anammox activity at this temple. Assess the impact of a multifaceted intervention to improve the completeness of structured MRI reports for patients undergoing initial staging for rectal cancer.
This Institutional Review Board-approved retrospective study was performed at a large academic hospital. MRI reports for initial staging of rectal cancer in 2017 and 2019 were analyzed pre- and post-implementation of multiple quality improvement interventions in 2018, including harmonizing MRI protocols across the institution, educational conferences and modules, and requiring second opinion consultation for all MRI rectal cancer examinations. The primary outcome measure was the completeness of rectal cancer staging MRI reports, classified as optimal, satisfactory, or unsatisfactory based on the inclusion of 15 quality measures pre-defined by a consensus of abdominal and cancer imaging subspecialists, colorectal surgeons, and radiation oncologists at our institution, based on published recommendations. Fisher's exact test was used to evaluate changes in report quality and documentation of each quality measure.
The study included 138 MRI reports, of which 72 (52%) were completed in 2017 pre-intervention. Post intervention, the proportion of optimal reports increased significantly from 52.8% (38/72) to 71.2% (47/66) (p = 0.035). Documentation of 1 quality measure (N stage) increased post intervention from 91.7% (66/72) to 100% (66/66) (p = 0.029). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/abt-199.html Documentation of 7 quality measures was 100% post intervention, with a documentation rate of > 95% for all quality measures except radial location of tumor.

Crystals of RETe1.875±δ (RE = Ce, Pr, Sm, Gd; 0.004 ≤ δ ≤ 0.025) were grown using alkali halide flux and chemical transport reactions. The crystal structures are described in space group Amm2 (no. 38), with lattice parameters of a = 13.3729(5) Å, b = 17.7918(5) Å, c = 18.1561(4) Å for CeTe1.87(1) (T = 100 K), a = 13.271(2) Å, b = 17.747(3) Å, c = 18.160(3) Å for PrTe1.85(1) (T = 100 K), a = 13.1251(6) Å, b = 17.4269(8) Å, c = 17.8808(8) Å for SmTe1.87(1) (T = 100 K), and a = 13.1762(4) Å, b = 17.4995(5) Å, c = 17.9591(5) Å for GdTe1.88(1) (T = 296 K). The structures contain alternating stacks of puckered [RETe] slabs and planar [Te] layers. The latter are composed of small anionic entities, such as Te2- and Te22-, along with a large anionic eight-membered Te ring, as supported by electron localizability indicator-based bond analysis for an ordered model of GdTe1.875. Slightly different patterns for individual compounds indicate a considerable structural flexibility. In this study, we used a series of hydrophobic chlorinated paraffins as chemical probes to elucidate the microheterogeneous distribution of •OH in illuminated CDOM solutions. The steady-state concentration of •OH inside the CDOM microphase is 210 ± 31-fold higher than the concentration in the aqueous phase. Our results suggest that the most photochemically generated •OH are confined into the CDOM microphase. Thus, illuminated CDOM behaves as a natural microreactor for •OH-based oxidations. By including intra-CDOM •OH, the quantum yield of •OH for CDOM solutions was estimated to be 2.2 ± 0.5 × 10-3, which is 2 orders of magnitude greater than previously thought. The elevated concentrations of photogenerated •OH within the CDOM microphase may improve the understanding of hydrophobic pollutant degradation in aqueous environments. In this work, we systematically distinguish and quantify the different rates of lithium loss associated with galvanic corrosion, the formation of a solid-electrolyte interphase, and the formation of electrically isolated lithium metal (i.e., "dead" lithium). We show that the formation of "dead" Li is accelerated upon cycling, dominating the total lithium loss, with **** slower rates of lithium loss associated with galvanic corrosion and formation of the solid-electrolyte interphase. Furthermore, photoacoustic imaging reveals that the three-dimensional spatial distribution of "dead" Li is distinctly different from that of freshly deposited lithium. This quantification is further extended to a solid-state Li/Cu cell based on a Li10GeP2S12 solid-state electrolyte. The lithium loss in the solid-state cell is **** severer than that of a conventional lithium-metal battery based on a liquid electrolyte. Here, an innovative strategy to realize AG on Si substrates is developed by fabricating a honeycomb lattice of Au nanodisks on a Si/GeSi quantum well. The lateral potential modulation induced by the nanoscale Au/Si Schottky junction results in the formation of quantum dots arranged in a honeycomb lattice to form AG. Nonlinear current-voltage curves of the AG reveal conductance phase transitions with switch on/off voltages, a large electric hysteresis loop, and a strong sharp current peak accompanied by a group of differential-conductance peaks and negative differential conductance around the switch-on voltage, which can be modulated by temperature and light. These features are interpreted by a model based on the Coulomb blockade effect, the collective resonant tunneling, and the coupling of holes in the AG.

In the present article, we collected papers published in Chinese or English in recent 10 years from PubMed, CNKI, and VIP databases by using key words of"acupuncture""meridian""resistance""capacitance""electrodermal"and"impedance". Then, we make an analysis about its development from three aspects, 1) manifestations of electrical properties of acupoints (low dermal resistance under pathological state, imbalance between left and right sides of the synonym acupoints), 2) clinical application of acupoint electrical characteristics for diagnosis of clinical disorders and evaluation of therapeutic effect, and 3) current situations of development of meridian detection instruments based on electrical characteristics (improving stability of instruments,expansion of the detected regions and measuring time, realization of visualization, and operational automation). In the process of coming studies, we highly recommend that more attention should be paid to the acupoints' "dynamic changes", and forming a standardized research plan, strengthening domestic and international academic exchanges and cooperation are definitely necessary in order to validate the objectivity and specificity of electrical characteristics of meridians and acupoints, further expanding its clinical application.OBJECTIVE To dig the knowledge structure of lumbago's symptoms and acupoints in book Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing (A-B Classic of Acupuncture and Moxibustion) and Zhenjiu Dacheng (Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion) in order to provide a possible scientific method for exploring their combination regularities in ancient Chinese medical books about acupuncture-moxibustion, and to investigate the feasibility and scientificity of the "association rule" in trimming the related ancient medical books and records. METHODS The articles about lumbago's symptoms and employed acupoints were screened from classic me-dical book Zhenjiu Jiayi Jing and Zhenjiu Dacheng, followed by establishing a database. Then, the bidimensional correlation analysis about the lumbago-symptoms and symptoms-acupoints was conducted by using Apriori algorithm of Weka3.9.0 platform. In the present article, we collected papers published in Chinese or English in recent 10 years from PubMed, CNKI, and VIP databases by using key words of"acupuncture""meridian""resistance""capacitance""electrodermal"and"impedance". Then, we make an analysis about its development from three aspects, 1) manifestations of electrical properties of acupoints (low dermal resistance under pathological state, imbalance between left and right sides of the synonym acupoints), 2) clinical application of acupoint electrical characteristics for diagnosis of clinical disorders and evaluation of therapeutic effect, and 3) current situations of development of meridian detection instruments based on electrical characteristics (improving stability of instruments,expansion of the detected regions and measuring time, realization of visualization, and operational automation). Predictors of ISR were determined by multivariate logistic regression analysis.
Follow-up angiography demonstrated ISR in 33 patients (24.8%). In 44 patients, more than two stents were deployed. Univariate logistic regression analyses demonstrated echolucent lesion, floating plaque, complete occlusive or pseudo-occlusive lesion, and closed-cell stent use as significantly associated with ISR (>50%). Multivariate logistic regression analysis demonstrated that echolucent lesion (OR 4.667, 95% CI 1.849-11.779) and closed-cell stent use (OR .378, 95% CI .148-.968) were significantly associated with ISR.

Preprocedural plaque characterization by carotid US appeared to be useful to predict ISR 6 months after CAS.Although disgust proneness (DP) is increasingly recognized as a personality characteristic that confers risk for psychiatric conditions such as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), the extent to which it reflects a time-varying (TV) or state-like factor versus a time-invariant (TI) or trait-like personality characteristic is unclear. In a 6-wave, 5-month longitudinal study, community participants (n = 982) recruited through ResearchMatch completed the Disgust Propensity and Sensitivity Scale Revised (van Overveld, de Jong, Peters, Cavanagh, & Davey, 2006), a measure of three variants of DP including Somatic Disgust Sensitivity, Ruminative Disgust Sensitivity, and Disgust Propensity. A latent variable (trait-state-occasion) model was applied to all of the DP dimensions. The results showed that although estimates of TI factor variance and TV factor variance were both significant for Somatic Disgust, Ruminative Disgust, and Disgust Propensity, the proportion of TI factor variance (range from .68 to .82) for the DP dimensions was substantially and significantly greater than the amount of TV factor variance (range from .18 to .32). Furthermore, while TV factor stability was statistically significant for the DP dimensions, the size of the coefficients were only moderate in magnitude. Subsequent analysis then examined the extent to which TV or TI components of DP were associated with latent OCD symptoms at each of the six time points. The results showed that estimates of the regression weight for the TI DP factor were significant and larger than those for the TV factor which were often nonsignificant. These findings suggest that DP is largely TI, and it is this TI component that is most strongly associated with OCD symptoms.Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) is a common neurological disorder with unknown etiology. We fabricated high-entropy ceramic (HEC) nanomaterials using simple pulsed laser irradiation scanning on mixed salt solutions (PLMS method) under low-vacuum conditions. This method, allowing simple operation, rapid manufacturing, and low cost, is capable of using various metal salts as precursors and is also suitable for both flat and complicated 3D substrates. In this work, we engineered this PLMS method to fabricate high-entropy ceramic oxides containing four to seven elements. To address the catalytic performance of these HEC nanomaterials, we focused on CoCrFeNiAl high-entropy oxides applied to the oxygen-evolution reaction (OER), which is considered a sluggish process in water. We herein report a palladium-catalyzed coupling reaction between aryl iodide and aryl bromide for preparing brominated biaryl compounds via a silver-mediated C-H bond activation pathway.A near-infrared fluorescent (NIRF) substrate-based probe (SBP) was conceived to monitor secreted human proteinase 3 (hPR3) activity. Pro3-SBP was specifically hydrolyzed by hPR3 (kcat/Km= 440 000 ± 5500 M-1·s-1) and displayed a sensitive detection threshold for hPR3 (subnanomolar concentration range), while neutrophil elastase showed a weaker potency. Conversely, pro3-SBP was not cleaved by cathepsin G. Pro3-SBP was successfully hydrolyzed by conditioned media of activated human neutrophils but not by quiescent neutrophils. Moreover, unlike unstimulated neutrophils, a strong NIRF signal was specifically detected by confocal microscopy following neutrophil ionomycin-induced degranulation. Fluorescence release was abolished in the presence of a selective hPR3 inhibitor, indicating that pro3-SBP is selectively cleaved by extracellular hPR3. Although vapor-phased deposition methods can prepare vertical and lateral heterostructures, liquid-phased methods, which can enable scalable production and further solution processes, have shown limited controllability. Herein, we demonstrate by using wet chemical methods that metallic Sn0.5Mo0.5S2 nanosheets can be deposited epitaxially on the edges of semiconducting SnS2 nanoplates to form SnS2/Sn0.5Mo0.5S2 lateral heterostructures or coated on both the edges and basal surfaces of SnS2 to give SnS2@Sn0.5Mo0.5S2 core@shell heterostructures. They also showed good light-to-heat conversion ability due to the metallic property of Sn0.5Mo0.5S2. In particular, the core@shell heterostructure showed a higher photothermal conversion efficiency than the lateral counterpart, largely due to its randomly oriented and polycrystalline Sn0.5Mo0.5S2 layers with larger interfacing area for multiple internal light scattering.

We fabricated high-entropy ceramic (HEC) nanomaterials using simple pulsed laser irradiation scanning on mixed salt solutions (PLMS method) under low-vacuum conditions. This method, allowing simple operation, rapid manufacturing, and low cost, is capable of using various metal salts as precursors and is also suitable for both flat and complicated 3D substrates. In this work, we engineered this PLMS method to fabricate high-entropy ceramic oxides containing four to seven elements. To address the catalytic performance of these HEC nanomaterials, we focused on CoCrFeNiAl high-entropy oxides applied to the oxygen-evolution reaction (OER), which is considered a sluggish process in water. With the development of -omics approaches, the scientific community is now submerged by a wealth of information that can be used to analyze various parameters the degree of protein sequence conservation, protein 3D structures as well as RNA and protein expression levels in various benign and tumor tissues, during organism development or upon exposure to chemicals such as endocrine disrupters. METHODS By the in vitro drug sensitivity test, 81 agents with various actions were screened for their cytotoxicity in a panel of 22 ALL cell lines and ALL clinical samples. The drug effect score (DES) was calculated from the dose-response of each drug for comparison among drugs or samples. Normal peripheral blood mononuclear cells were also applied onto the drug screening to provide the reference control values. The drug combination effect was screened based on the Bliss independent model, and validated by the improved isobologram method. RESULTS On sensitivity screening in a cell line panel, barasertib-HQPA which is an active metabolite of barasertib, an aurora B kinase inhibitor, alisertib, an aurora A kinase inhibitor, and YM155, a survivin inhibitor, were effective against the broadest range of ALL cells. The DES of barasertib-HQPA was significantly higher in ALL clinical samples compared to the reference value. There were significant correlations in DES between barasertib-HQPA and vincristine or docetaxel. In the drug combination assay, barasertib-HQPA and eribulin showed additive to synergistic effects. CONCLUSION Aurora B kinase was identified to be an active therapeutic target in a broad range of ALL cells. Combination therapy of barasertib and a microtubule-targeting drug is of clinical interest.CONTEXT Cold exposure (CE) has been shown to enhance energy expenditure by activating brown adipose tissue thermogenesis and metabolism in humans. However, it remains to be elucidated if there are gender-specific differences in cold-induced thermogenesis and metabolism. OBJECTIVE To study the impact of mild CE on resting energy expenditure (REE) and metabolism in males compared to females. SETTING A cross-sectional study. PARTICIPANTS 117 healthy young Caucasians participated in this study (58 males). Mean age was 25.1 ± 3.6 years and mean BMI 22.3 ± 1.7 kg/m². INTERVENTION Participants underwent a short-term CE using water perfused mattresses to activate non-shivering thermogenesis. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES REE was assessed before and 2 hours after CE followed by blood sampling. Selected metabolites and hormones were measured. Skin temperatures were monitored at various sites throughout the experiment. RESULTS Participants showed a significant increase in REE after CE (6.5%, p less then 0.001). This increase did not differ between genders (p=0.908). However, there were differences between males and females in changes of plasma glucose (-5.1% vs. -7.4%, p=0.024), leptin (-14.3% vs. -30.1%, p less then 0.001) and adiponectin (5.4% vs. 12.8%, p=0.018) after CE. We observed a significant decrease of the supraclavicular skin temperature in men (-0.3%, p=0.034), but not in women (0.3%, p=0.326)(p=0.019 between genders). CONCLUSIONS We did not observe a difference in the thermogenic response, measured as change of REE, to CE in women compared to men. The objective of this work is to validate a model of three-dimensional (3D) culture of osteoblasts to study mechanobiology. MATERIALS AND METHODS The hFOB 1.19 cell line was cultured either traditionally on a flat surface or in aggregates called spheroids. They were embedded in 0.8% low-melting agarose type VII and placed in a polyethylene terephthalate transwell insert. Compressive forces of 1 and 4 g/cm2 were applied with an adjustable weight. Proliferation was evaluated by measuring diameters, monitoring glucose levels, and conducting Hoechst/propidium iodide staining. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays focusing on the pro-inflammatory mediators interleukin (IL)-6 and IL-8 and bone remodelling factor osteoprotegerin were performed to evaluate soluble factor synthesis.

Many doctors and dentists took to social media to raise alarm and/or express professional opinion, dissatisfaction, anger and/or incredulity associated with the Covid-19 pandemic. Although most of these social media posts involved practitioners from abroad, this article explores whether they would attract fitness to practise investigations had they been posted by UK-based medical and dental practitioners. In particular, it asks whether such conduct comes into conflict with the existing professional standards issued by the General Medical Council (GMC) and the General Dental Council (GDC). It questions also whether those guidelines should be updated and/or further clarified in view of the extraordinary circumstances posed by the pandemic.
An exploratory study was conducted using sensationalist pandemic-related social media posts by doctors and dentists discovered during the first half of 2020 (n = 11). The contents were analysed qualitatively using documentary analysis using coding terms based on the profedisseminating information, and promoting solidarity in the management of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, doctors and dentists must carefully consider the ethical and professional pitfalls involved in sensationalist social media posts. The GMC and the GDC should, at the same time, regularly update and clarify their social media guidance in response to major global events like a pandemic as well as advances in social media technology.

Contrarily to previous studies who focused mainly on stimulating the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, we modulated the left intraparietal sulcus (IPS) area which is considered to support attentional control aspects of working memory. Using a within-participant experimental design, participants completed three different conditions anodal stimulation of the IPS, cathodal stimulation of the IPS, and sham stimulation of the IPS. Both visual and verbal working memory tasks were administered. In the visual task, participants had to memorize a random set of colored figures. In the verbal task, participants had to memorize a string of letters. Working memory load was manipulated in both tasks (six figures/letters vs. two figures/letters). No significant differences in accuracy or reaction time between the anodal, cathodal and sham conditions were found. Bayesian analysis supported evidence for an absence of effect. The 1H-qNMR analysis of the studied analytes was performed using inositol as the internal standard and dimethyl sulfoxide-d6 (DMSO-d6) as the solvent. The quantitative selective proton signal of FLP was doublet of doublet at 6.290, 6.294, 6.316 and 6.319 ppm, while that of AZH was doublet at 8.292 and 8.310 ppm. The internal standard (inositol) produced a doublet signal at 3.70 and 3.71 ppm. The method was rectilinear over the concentration ranges of 0.25-20.0 and 0.2-15.0 mg ml-1 for FLP and AZH, respectively. No labelling or pretreatment steps were required for NMR analysis of the studied analytes. The proposed 1H-qNMR method was validated efficiently according to the International Council on Harmonisation guidelines in terms of linearity, limit of detection, limit of quantification, accuracy, precision, specificity and stability. Moreover, the method was applied to assay the analytes in their combined nasal spray formulation. The results ensured the linearity (r 2 > 0.999), precision (% RSD less then 1.5), stability, specificity and selectivity of the developed method.

Many doctors and dentists took to social media to raise alarm and/or express professional opinion, dissatisfaction, anger and/or incredulity associated with the Covid-19 pandemic. Although most of these social media posts involved practitioners from abroad, this article explores whether they would attract fitness to practise investigations had they been posted by UK-based medical and dental practitioners. In particular, it asks whether such conduct comes into conflict with the existing professional standards issued by the General Medical Council (GMC) and the General Dental Council (GDC). It questions also whether those guidelines should be updated and/or further clarified in view of the extraordinary circumstances posed by the pandemic. An exploratory study was conducted using sensationalist pandemic-related social media posts by doctors and dentists discovered during the first half of 2020 (n = 11). The contents were analysed qualitatively using documentary analysis using coding terms based on the profedisseminating information, and promoting solidarity in the management of the Covid-19 pandemic. Contrarily to previous studies who focused mainly on stimulating the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, we modulated the left intraparietal sulcus (IPS) area which is considered to support attentional control aspects of working memory. Using a within-participant experimental design, participants completed three different conditions anodal stimulation of the IPS, cathodal stimulation of the IPS, and sham stimulation of the IPS. Both visual and verbal working memory tasks were administered. In the visual task, participants had to memorize a random set of colored figures. The method was rectilinear over the concentration ranges of 0.25-20.0 and 0.2-15.0 mg ml-1 for FLP and AZH, respectively. No labelling or pretreatment steps were required for NMR analysis of the studied analytes. The proposed 1H-qNMR method was validated efficiently according to the International Council on Harmonisation guidelines in terms of linearity, limit of detection, limit of quantification, accuracy, precision, specificity and stability. These microbial changes were functionally characterized by decreased capped brood counts (marker of hive nutritional status and productivity) and reduced antimicrobial capacity of adult hemolymph (indicator of immune competence). Importantly, combination therapy with three immunostimulatory Lactobacillus strains could mitigate antibiotic-associated microbiota dysbiosis and immune deficits in adult workers, as well as maximize the intended benefit of oxytetracycline by suppressing larval pathogen loads to near-undetectable levels. We conclude that microbial-based therapeutics may offer a simple but effective solution to reduce honey bee disease burden, environmental xenobiotic exposure, and spread of antimicrobial resistance.

RATIONALE The cardiac sodium channel NaV1.5, encoded by SCN5A, produces the rapidly inactivating depolarizing current INa that is responsible for the initiation and propagation of the cardiac action potential. Acquired and inherited dysfunction of NaV1.5 results in either decreased peak INa or increased residual late INa (INa,L), leading to tachy/bradyarrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. Previous studies have shown that increased cellular NAD+ and NAD+/NADH ratio increase INa through suppression of mitochondrial reactive oxygen species and PKC-mediated NaV1.5 phosphorylation. In addition, NAD+-dependent deacetylation of NaV1.5 at K1479 by Sirtuin 1 increases NaV1.5 membrane trafficking and INa. The role of NAD+ precursors in modulating INa remains unknown. Consistent reports of nucleoporin deregulation associated with ischemic and dilated cardiomyopathies, arrhythmias and valvular disorders suggests that nucleoporin impairment may be a significant but understudied variable in cardiopathologic disorders. This review discusses and converges existing literature regarding nuclear pore complex proteins and their association with cardiac pathologies, and proposes a role for nucleoporins as facilitators of cardiac disease. Trade-offs between dispersal and reproduction are known to be important drivers of population dynamics, but their direct influence on the spreading speed of a population is not well understood. Using integrodifference equations, we develop a model that incorporates a dispersal-reproduction trade-off which allows for a variety of different shaped trade-off curves. We show there is a unique reproductive-dispersal allocation that gives the largest value for the spreading speed and calculate the sensitivities of the reproduction, dispersal, and trade-off shape parameters. Uncertainty in the model parameters affects the expected spread of the population and we calculate the optimal allocation of resources to dispersal that maximizes the expected spreading speed. Higher allocation to dispersal arises from uncertainty in the reproduction parameter or the shape of the reproduction trade-off curve. Lower allocation to dispersal arises from uncertainty in the shape of the dispersal trade-off curve, but does not come from uncertainty in the dispersal parameter. Our findings give insight into how parameter sensitivity and uncertainty influence the spreading speed of a population with a dispersal-reproduction trade-off. ApoLp-III from either species induced a robust release of calcein from phosphatidylglycerol vesicles, but was ineffective for phosphatidylcholine vesicles with comparable side-chain architecture. Acetylation of L. migratoria apoLp-III lysine residues greatly reduced the calcein release from phosphatidylglycerol vesicles, indicating a critical role of lysine side-chains in phosphatidylglycerol vesicles interaction. V.BACKGROUND Postoperative hematoma and venous congestion after free tissue transfer may occur independently or concurrently. We aimed to explore the association between these two events. METHODS All free flap reconstructions for head and neck (HN) and breast from a single institution between 2004 and 2014 were retrospectively reviewed for reoperation for venous congestion and/or hematoma. RESULTS There were 2985 free flap cases for HN reconstruction and 2345 cases for breast reconstruction. In HN, 100 patients developed a hematoma (3.4%) and 84 patients developed venous congestion (2.8%). The prevalence of hematoma was 17.8% and 2.9% in the presence and absence of congestion, respectively (p less then 0.001). Among the 15 patients who had both hematoma and venous congestion were separate events that occurred from 1 to 9 days apart in 8 patients. V.BACKGROUND Postoperative hematoma and venous congestion after free tissue transfer may occur independently or concurrently. We aimed to explore the association between these two events. METHODS All free flap reconstructions for head and neck (HN) and breast from a single institution between 2004 and 2014 were retrospectively reviewed for reoperation for venous congestion and/or hematoma. RESULTS There were 2985 free flap cases for HN reconstruction and 2345 cases for breast reconstruction. In HN, 100 patients developed a hematoma (3.4%) and 84 patients developed venous congestion (2.8%). The prevalence of hematoma was 17.8% and 2.9% in the presence and absence of congestion, respectively (p less then 0.001). Among the 15 patients who had both hematoma and venous congestion were separate events that occurred from 1 to 9 days apart in 8 patients. Hematoma caused the compression of the pedicle vein in 4 patients, while venous congestion possibly caused hematoma in 3 patients. BACKGROUND Timely genetic testing at ovarian cancer diagnosis is essential as results impact front line treatment decisions. Our objective was to determine rates of genetic counseling and testing with an expedited genetics referral pathway wherein women with newly-diagnosed ovarian cancer are contacted by a genetics navigator to facilitate genetic counseling. METHODS Patients were referred for genetic counseling by their gynecologic oncologist, contacted by a genetics navigator and offered appointments for genetic counseling. Patients completed quality of life (QoL) surveys immediately pre- and post-genetic assessment and 6 months later. The primary outcome was feasibility of this pathway defined by presentation for genetic counseling. However, the clinicopathologic and prognostic implication of RNF187 expression in ovarian carcinomas remains not to be evaluated. The aim of this study was to explore the clinicopathologic and the prognostic significance of RNF187 in patients with ovarian carcinomas. Expression levels of RNF187 protein were investigated by immunohistochemical staining based on tissue-microarray composed of 147 patients with ovarian carcinomas. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was used to select the ideal cut-off value of RNF187 expression in ovarian carcinoma, and then analyze the correlation between the status of RNF187 expression and various clinicopathologic variables by chi-square test. Univariate analysis was employed to investigate the association between clinicopathologic variables and prognosis of patients by Kaplan-Meier method. Multivariate analysis was performed to identify the independent prognostic factors by the Cox regression model. Our results demonstrated that high expression of RNF187 was significantly associated with late FIGO stage, high histologic grade and pN1 stage in ovarian carcinoma (P less then 0.05). Univariate analysis uncovered patients with the high expression of RNF187 have the worse overall survival and disease-free survival (P less then 0.05). More surprisingly, multivariate analysis determined that the RNF187 expression was served as an independent prognostic factor in ovarian carcinoma. The high expression of RNF187 might influence a more aggressive biological behavior in ovarian carcinoma. Therefore, RNF187 expression could be useful to act as a new independent prognostic biomarker for patients with ovarian carcinoma. METHODS Fifty-six stool samples of newly diagnosed rectal cancer patients (25 HPR and 31 NHW) were amplicon-sequenced during chemo-radiotherapy. 16S rRNA gene data was analyzed using QIIME2, phyloseq, and LEfSe. RESULTS We observed similar within-sample alpha diversity for HPR and NHW participants during CRT. However, at the end of CRT, several taxa were present at significantly different abundances across both groups. Taxa enriched in the gut of HPR compared to NHW included Muribaculaceae, Prevotella 2 and 7, Gemella, Bacillales Family XI, Catenibacterium, Sutterella, Pasteurellales, and Pasteurellaceae genera, whereas over-represented taxa in NHW participants were Turicibacter and Eubacteriaceae. Significant differences in predicted HPR microbiota functions included pathways for synthesis of L-methionine and degradation of phenylethylamine and phenylacetate. CONCLUSION In this pilot study, taxonomic analyses and functional predictions of the gut microbiomes suggest greater inflammatory potential in gut microbial functions among HPR rectal cancer patients undergoing CRT compared to that of NHW participants. BACKGROUND Diagnosis of abdominal wall defects and prostate cancer may be either synchronous or metachronous. The convenience and safety of combined prostatectomy and hernioplasty, the incidence of hernias after prostatectomy and the feasibility of prostatectomy in patients with previous laparoscopic hernioplasty are still debated. METHODS PubMed and Embase were queried by dedicated search strings. Two researchers independently reviewed the pooled references and selected the articles of interest, including reviews. RESULTS Sixty-five studies were evaluated, 22 of them analysed the feasibility and the outcomes of a combined surgery, namely one-stage radical prostatectomy and herniorrhaphy or hernioplasty. Literature evidences support the combined intervention to patients suffering from an inguinal hernia and a prostate cancer amenable of radical prostatectomy. Sixteen studies addressing the potential increase in the occurrence of inguinal hernia after radical prostatectomy were evaluated. Approximately 15% of patients who undergo retro-pubic radical prostatectomy will develop inguinal hernia. It is suggested that the incidence might be lower in laparoscopic prostatectomy series, particularly in case of transperitoneal approach. The median time to the appearance of the hernia is around 6 months. After evaluation of 14 studies, it is concluded that laparoscopic hernioplasty does not preclude prostatectomy but hinders further pelvic surgery. CONCLUSIONS One-stage combined hernioplasty and radical prostatectomy may be accepted except in cases of lymph-nodes dissection and/or positive hydro-distress test of the urethro-vesical anastomosis. Accurate patient's counselling and dedicated consent form are mandatory, in the setting of an experienced multidisciplinary team.

Here a simple and reproducible method for obtaining terahertz metasurfaces formed from multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) is presented. The metasurfaces were obtained from a vertically aligned array of MWCNTs using a laser engraving technique followed by polymer covering. The structures under study demonstrate frequency-selective reflection in terahertz range following the Huygens-Fresnel formalism. For a normal incidence of the electromagnetic wave, the model for numerical calculation of backscattering from the metasurfaces was proposed. Lightweight and compact MWCNT-based metasurfaces are capable to replace conventional pyramidal absorbers and proved to serve as a versatile platform for scalable cost-efficient production of ultra-light electromagnetic components for THz applications. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd.We provide a classification of symmetry-protected topological (SPT) phases of many-body localized (MBL) spin and fermionic systems in one dimension. For spin systems, using tensor networks we show that all eigenstates of these phases have the same topological index as defined for SPT ground states. For unitary on-site symmetries, the MBL phases are thus labeled by the elements of the second cohomology group of the symmetry group. A similar classification is obtained for anti-unitary on-site symmetries, time-reversal symmetry being a special case with a Z2classification (cf. [Phys. Rev. B 98, 054204 (2018)]). For the classification of fermionic MBL phases, we propose a fermionic tensor network diagrammatic formulation. We find that fermionic MBL systems with an (anti-)unitary symmetry are classified by the elements of the (generalized) second cohomology group if parity is included into the symmetry group. However, our approach misses a Z2topological index expected from the classification of fermionic SPT ground states. Finally, we show that all found phases are stable to arbitrary symmetry-preserving local perturbations. Conversely, different topological phases must be separated by a transition marked by delocalized eigenstates. Finally, we demonstrate that the classification of spin systems is complete in the sense that there cannot be any additional topological indices pertaining to the properties of individualeigenstates, but there can be additional topological indices that further classify Hamiltonians. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd.In order to quantify spontaneous baroreflex sensitivity (BRS) many groups use the sequence method (SME). In this paper we test the hypothesis that SME is quantifying causal interactions of spontaneous BRS at rest rather than, alternatively, being solely dominated by heart rate variability (HRV) and/or systolic blood pressure variability (BPV). Therefore, we retrospectively analyzed 1828 beat-to-beat time series and their corresponding systolic blood pressure during resting conditions. We found a high correlation between short-term HRV and the SME of baroreflex sensitivity of r=0.85 (p less then 0.001). The correlation is even higher between SME and the root mean square ratio of HRV and BPV (r=0.93, p less then 0.001). Surrogate analyses revealed that SME is not able to quantify causal relationships between both signals, it cannot differentiate between random and baroreflex driven sequences, and rather determines the HRV-BPV variability ratio. We conclude that SME has a potentially large methodological bias in the characterization of the capacity of the arterial baroreflex during resting conditions. In ferromagnetic-metallic state, resistivity shows a $T^2$ dependence below $T_c$ which though modifies to $T^3/2$ dependence at low temperature. In Ti substituted samples, temperature range for $T^3/2$ dependence extends to higher temperature. Interestingly, this $T^3/2$ dependence dominates in whole ferromagnetic regime in presence of magnetic field. This evolution of electronic transport behavior can be explained within the framework of Fermi liquid theory and electron-magnon scattering mechanism. The negative magnetoresistance exhibits a hysteresis and a crossover between negative and positive value with magnetic field which is connected with magnetic behavior in series. The decreasing electronic coefficient of specific heat with $x$ supports the increasing insulating behavior in present series. We calculate a high Kadowaki-Woods ratio ($x$ $\leq$ 0.3) for SrRuO$_3$ which increases with substitution concentration. While the crosslinking mechanism of thiol-ene hydrogels has been well-described, limited work has explored physical differences among gels arising from variations in crosslinker properties. Here, we show that the character of linear polyethylene glycol (PEG) dithiols used to crosslink multi-arm polyethylene glycol norbornene (PEGNB) can be used as a facile strategy to tune hydrogel formation kinetics, and therefore equilibrium hydrogel network architecture. Specifically, we report the dramatic effect of crosslinker length on PEGNB hydrogel formation kinetics, and formed hydrogel properties. It is shown that hydrogel formation kinetics and formed hydrogel properties can be tuned by solely varying crosslinker length. It was hypothesized that under identical reaction conditions, a more accessible 3.5k PEG dithiol crosslinker would improve network ideality relative to a shorter 1.
