Additionally, recent studies demonstrated that high fat ketogenic diets, many enriched with saturated fats, do not increase serum saturated fat content in humans, and are not associated with increased inflammation. Thus, these findings shed light on the complexity of novel treatment and DFA interventions for metabolic disease and to maintain health. Further studies are needed to advance molecular therapeutic approaches, including miRNA-based strategies in human health and disease.Periodontal disease is a common, bacterially mediated health problem worldwide. Inadequate tooth cleaning causes a dentally adherent microbial biofilm composed of commensal salivary bacteria to appear around these crevices where many bacteria grow better on GCF than in saliva. We reported that lysine decarboxylase (Ldc) from Eikenella corrodens depletes the GCF of lysine by converting it to cadaverine and carbon dioxide. Lysine is an amino acid essential for the integrity and continuous renewal of dentally attached epithelium acting as a barrier to microbial products. Unless removed regularly by oral hygiene, bacterial products invade the lysine-deprived dental attachment where they stimulate inflammation that enhances GCF exudation. Cadaverine increases and supports the development of a butyrate-producing microbiome that utilizes the increased GCF substrates to slowly destroy the periodontium (dysbiosis). A long-standing paradox is that acid-induced Ldc and butyrate production support a commensal (probiotic) microbiome in the intestine. Here, we describe how the different physiologies of the respective tissues explain how the different Ldc and butyrate functions impact the progression and control of these two chronic diseases.In this study, the biosynthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles using Aspergillus niger (A/ZnO-NPs) is described. These particles have been characterized by UV-Vis spectrum analysis, X-ray powder diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. To use this biosynthesized nanoparticle as an antiproliferative and antimicrobial agent, the IC50 value against the breast cancer cell line and inhibition zone against Escherichia coli were used to optimize the effect of two processing factors including dose of filtrate fungi cell and temperature. The biosynthesized A/ZnO-NPs had an absorbance band at 320 nm and spherical shapes. The mean particles size was 35 nm. RSM (response surface methodology) was utilized to investigate the outcome responses. The Model F-value of 12.21 and 7.29 implies that the model was significant for both responses. The contour plot against inhibition zone for temperature and dose showed that if the dose increases from 3.8 to 17.2 µg/mL, the inhibition zone increases up to 35 mm. As an alternative to chemical and/or physical methods, biosynthesizing zinc oxide NPs through fungi extracts can serve as a more facile and eco-friendly strategy. Differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) is the most common endocrine carcinoma with an overall good prognosis. However, persistent or recurrent disease (P/R disease) and incomplete biochemical response (BIR) are causes of morbidity. Histopathology and TNM stage may not predict P/R disease and BIR in all patients. Various clinical parameters, histopathological features and preablative-stimulated thyroglobulin (presTg) have been proposed to predicts P/R disease. However, there is uncertainty for presTg cutoff and diagnostic accuracy. The study's objective was to predict the BIR before radioiodine ablation from available clinical, histopathological and biochemical parameters.
A retrospective, single-center study, including DTC patients, was done. Demography and factors predicting BIR evaluated.
In comparison to the patients in remission, patients with BIR were older (P = 0.042), had higher presTg (P < 0.001), and lymph nodes (LN) metastases [central or lateral compartment (P < 0.001)]. Visualization of LN on whole-body scan (P = 0.014), higher TNM stage (P = 0.001) and distance metastasis (P < 0.001) were also associated with BIR. On multivariate analysis, high presTg (P < 0.001) and LN metastases (LNscan and histopathologically proven LN involvement, P < 0.001) were associated with BIR. A presTg level ≥12.30 ng/ml has high sensitivity (90.6%) and specificity (80.6%) to predict the BIR (odds ratio 39.90).
The presTg and LN involvement are robust markers that predict BIR. A raised presTg level with LN metastases and nonvisualization of the LN on the whole-body scan is a worrying feature for the future BIR. We propose the inclusion of high presTg as a high-risk factor in DTC.

An elderly patient was defined as ≥70 years. Patients were grouped into NF/elderly and F/elderly. SRS-Schwab modifiers were assessed at baseline and 1-year(0, +, ++). Logistic regression analysis assessed the relationship between increasing invasiveness, no reosk in an inverse manner, while the opposite was seen amongst elderly patients with a frailty status less than their chronologic age. Surgeons should perhaps consider incorporation of frailty status over age status when determining realignment plans in patients of advanced age.Level of Evidence ???

To compare the accuracy of 3D-printed drill guides versus additional screw guiding techniques for challenging intra- and extrapedicular screw trajectories.
Pedicle screw placement can be technically demanding, especially in syndromic scoliosis with limited bone stock. Recently, 3D-printing and virtual planning technology have become available as new tools to improve pedicle screw insertion. Differences in techniques exist, while some focus on guiding the drill, others also actively guide subsequent screws insertion. The accuracy of various 3D-printing assisted techniques has been studied, however direct comparative studies have yet to determine whether there is a benefit of additional screw guidance.
Two cadaveric experiments were conducted to compare drill guides with two techniques that introduce additional screw guiding. The screw guiding consisted of either k-wire cannulated screws or modular guides, which were designed to guide the screw in addition to the drill rated very high accuracy and therefore there is no benefit from additional screw guiding techniques.Level of Evidence 3.
In this cadaveric study it was found that the additional screw-guiding techniques are not superior to the regular 3D-printed drill guides for the technically demanding extrapedicular screw technique. For intra-pedicular screw insertion, modular guides can improve insertion, however, at cervical levels regular 3D-printed drill guides already demonstrated very high accuracy and therefore there is no benefit from additional screw guiding techniques.Level of Evidence 3.
Educating and training clinicians to deliver nutrition interventions is critical to improve population health. However, the adequacy of nutrition education within primary care adult and family nurse practitioner (ANP/FNP) curricula has not been addressed.
The purpose of this study was to describe faculty perceptions of nutrition education in ANP/FNP programs.
We used a cross-sectional design to gather data on nutrition education. The survey was administered to a convenience sample of faculty from the United States.
Our response rate was 47.8% (N = 49). The mean ± SD hours of nutrition education was 14.4 ± 14.6. One-fourth of schools reported that their students received at least 25 hours of nutrition education. Most participants thought it was very or extremely important (75.6%) that their students become more educated about nutrition.
There is a need and desire for more nutrition education within nursing graduate curricula. Novel strategies to implement nutrition education in nurse practitioner curriculum are needed.

Patients with ENT symptoms should be investigated for early identification and prevention of SARS-CoV-2 spread.The goal of head and neck oncological surgery is complete tumor resection with adequate resection margins while preserving acceptable function and appearance. For oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC), different studies showed that only 15%-26% of all resections are adequate. A major reason for the low number of adequate resections is the lack of information during surgery; the margin status is only available after the final histopathologic assessment, days after surgery. The surgeons and pathologists at the Erasmus ** University Medical Center in Rotterdam started the implementation of specimen-driven intraoperative assessment of resection margins (IOARM) in 2013, which became the standard of care in 2015. This method enables the surgeon to turn an inadequate resection into an adequate resection by performing an additional resection during the initial surgery. Intraoperative assessment is supported by a relocation method procedure that allows accurate identification of inadequate margins (found on the specimen) in the wound bed. The implementation of this protocol resulted in an improvement of adequate resections from 15%-40%. However, the specimen-driven IOARM is not widely adopted because grossing fresh tissue is counter-intuitive for pathologists. The fear exists that grossing fresh tissue will deteriorate the anatomical orientation, shape, and size of the specimen and therefore will affect the final histopathologic assessment. These possible negative effects are countered by the described protocol. Longitudinal in vivo imaging with the imaging window enables stable visualization, allowing for the tracking of islets over a period of 3 weeks and high-resolution three-dimensional imaging of the microstructure, as evidenced here in an orthotopic pancreatic cancer model. For oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC), different studies showed that only 15%-26% of all resections are adequate. A major reason for the low number of adequate resections is the lack of information during surgery; the margin status is only available after the final histopathologic assessment, days after surgery. The surgeons and pathologists at the Erasmus MC University Medical Center in Rotterdam started the implementation of specimen-driven intraoperative assessment of resection margins (IOARM) in 2013, which became the standard of care in 2015. This method enables the surgeon to turn an inadequate resection into an adequate resection by performing an additional resection during the initial surgery. Intraoperative assessment is supported by a relocation method procedure that allows accurate identification of inadequate margins (found on the specimen) in the wound bed. The implementation of this protocol resulted in an improvement of adequate resections from 15%-40%. However, the specimen-driven IOARM is not widely adopted because grossing fresh tissue is counter-intuitive for pathologists. The fear exists that grossing fresh tissue will deteriorate the anatomical orientation, shape, and size of the specimen and therefore will affect the final histopathologic assessment. Vaccination is crucial in combatting the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 pandemic. The rare complication of thrombocytopenia and thrombotic complications at unusual sites after ChAdOx1 nCov-19 vaccination is caused by platelet-activating antibodies directed against platelet factor 4 (PF4). We present a widely applicable whole-blood standard flow cytometric assay to identify the pathogenic antibodies associated with vaccine-induced immune-mediated thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT) after ChAdOx1 nCov-19 vaccination. Populational ageing has been increasing in a remarkable rate in developing countries. In this scenario, preventive strategies could help to decrease the burden of higher demands for healthcare services. Machine learning algorithms have been increasingly applied for identifying priority candidates for preventive actions, presenting a better predictive performance than traditional parsimonious models.
Data were collected from the Health, Well Being and Aging (SABE) Study, a representative sample of older residents of São Paulo, Brazil. Machine learning algorithms were applied to predict death by diseases of respiratory system (DRS), diseases of circulatory system (DCS), neoplasms and other specific causes within 5years, using socioeconomic, demographic and health features. The algorithms were trained in a random sample of 70% of subjects, and then tested in the other 30% unseen data.
The outcome with highest predictive performance was death by DRS (AUC-ROC = 0.89), followed by the other specific causes (AUC-ROC = 0.87), DCS (AUC-ROC = 0.67) and neoplasms (AUC-ROC = 0.52). Among only the 25% of individuals with the highest predicted risk of mortality from DRS were included 100% of the actual cases. The machine learning algorithms with the highest predictive performance were light gradient boosted machine and extreme gradient boosting.
The algorithms had a high predictive performance for DRS, but lower for DCS and neoplasms. Mortality prediction with machine learning can improve clinical decisions especially regarding targeted preventive measures for older individuals.

We developed a pegylated glycomimetic of the N-terminus of PSGL-1, PEG40-GSnP-6 (P-G6), which proved to be a highly potent P-selectin inhibitor with a favorable pharmacokinetic profile for clinical translation. P-G6 inhibits human and mouse platelet-monocyte and platelet-neutrophil aggregation in vitro and blocks microcirculatory platelet-leukocyte interactions in vivo. Administration of P-G6 reduces thrombus formation in a non-occlusive model of deep vein thrombosis with a commensurate reduction in leukocyte accumulation, but without disruption of hemostasis. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) has become a relevant imaging method for the evaluation of focal liver le-sions (FLL). The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of CEUS for the assessment of focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) in a large study group.
We performed a multicentre prospective observational study, which included successive CEUS examinations from fourteen Romanian centres. CEUS examinations were performed in de novo FLL, using low mechanical index ultrasound, following an intravenous bolus of 2.4 ml SonoVue. CEUS was considered conclusive for FNH if a typical pattern was present following contrast (rapid "spoke-wheel" enhancement during the arterial phase, hyperenhanced lesion during venous phase, hyper- or isoenhanced in the late phase). In all cases a reference method was available (contrast enhanced CT or MRI or biopsy). The trial was registered in clinicaltrials.gov (Identifier NCT01329458).
During the 6 years study, 2062 "de novo" FLL were evaluated by CEUS. From this cohort, 94/2062 (4.5%) had a typical enhancing pattern for FNH as described in the EFSUMB guidelines. Contrast enhanced CT/MRI and biopsy diagnosed additional 15 FNH. From the 94 cases diagnosed as FNH by CEUS, in nine the final diagnosis was different (five of them adenomas). CEUS had 85% sensitivity, 99.5% specificity, 90.4% positive predictive value, 99.2% negative predictive value and 98.8% diagnostic accuracy for the diagnosis of FNH.

The availability of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services is a key prerequisite for quality care and infection prevention and control in health care facilities (HCFs). In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance and urgency of enhancing WASH coverage to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission and other healthcare-associated infections. As a part of COVID-19 preparedness and response interventions, the Government of Zimbabwe, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), and civil society organizations conducted WASH assessments in 50 HCFs designated as COVID-19 isolation facilities. Assessments were based on the Water and Sanitation for Health Facility Improvement Tool (WASH FIT), a multi-step framework to inform the continuous monitoring and improvement of WASH services. The WASH FIT assessments revealed that one in four HCFs did not have adequate services across the domains of water, sanitation, health care waste, hand hygiene, facility environment, cleanliness and disinfection, and management. The sanitation domain had the largest proportion of health care facilities with poor service coverage (42%). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work on the prediction of future research collaborations that combines structural and textual information of a scientific knowledge graph through a purposeful integration of graph algorithms and natural language processing techniques. Our work (i) investigates whether the integration of unstructured textual data into a single knowledge graph affects the performance of a link prediction model, (ii) studies the effect of previously proposed graph kernels based approaches on the performance of an ML model, as far as the link prediction problem is concerned, and (iii) proposes a three-phase pipeline that enables the exploitation of structural and textual information, as well as of pre-trained word embeddings. We benchmark the proposed approach against classical link prediction algorithms using accuracy, recall, and precision as our performance metrics. Finally, we empirically test our approach through various feature combinations with respect to the link prediction problem. The precise level of Oct4 governs the pluripotency and fate determination of hESCs. Several post-translational modifications (PTMs) of Oct4 including phosphorylation, ubiquitination, and SUMOylation have been reported to regulate its critical functions in hESCs. Ubiquitination and deubiquitination of Oct4 should be well balanced to maintain the pluripotency of hESCs. The protein turnover of Oct4 is regulated by several E3 ligases through ubiquitin-mediated degradation. However, reversal of ubiquitination by deubiquitinating enzymes (DUBs) has not been reported for Oct4. In this study, we generated a ubiquitin-specific protease 3 (USP3) gene knockout using the CRISPR/Cas9 system and demonstrated that USP3 acts as a protein stabilizer of Oct4 by deubiquitinating Oct4. USP3 interacts with endogenous Oct4 and co-localizes in the nucleus of hESCs. The depletion of USP3 leads to a decrease in Oct4 protein level and loss of pluripotent morphology in hESCs. The availability of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services is a key prerequisite for quality care and infection prevention and control in health care facilities (HCFs). In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance and urgency of enhancing WASH coverage to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission and other healthcare-associated infections. As a part of COVID-19 preparedness and response interventions, the Government of Zimbabwe, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), and civil society organizations conducted WASH assessments in 50 HCFs designated as COVID-19 isolation facilities. Assessments were based on the Water and Sanitation for Health Facility Improvement Tool (WASH FIT), a multi-step framework to inform the continuous monitoring and improvement of WASH services. The WASH FIT assessments revealed that one in four HCFs did not have adequate services across the domains of water, sanitation, health care waste, hand hygiene, facility environment, cleanliness and disinfection, and management. The sanitation domain had the largest proportion of health care facilities with poor service coverage (42%). Our work (i) investigates whether the integration of unstructured textual data into a single knowledge graph affects the performance of a link prediction model, (ii) studies the effect of previously proposed graph kernels based approaches on the performance of an ML model, as far as the link prediction problem is concerned, and (iii) proposes a three-phase pipeline that enables the exploitation of structural and textual information, as well as of pre-trained word embeddings. We benchmark the proposed approach against classical link prediction algorithms using accuracy, recall, and precision as our performance metrics. Ubiquitination and deubiquitination of Oct4 should be well balanced to maintain the pluripotency of hESCs. However, reversal of ubiquitination by deubiquitinating enzymes (DUBs) has not been reported for Oct4. In this study, we generated a ubiquitin-specific protease 3 (USP3) gene knockout using the CRISPR/Cas9 system and demonstrated that USP3 acts as a protein stabilizer of Oct4 by deubiquitinating Oct4. USP3 interacts with endogenous Oct4 and co-localizes in the nucleus of hESCs. The depletion of USP3 leads to a decrease in Oct4 protein level and loss of pluripotent morphology in hESCs. Data collection included standard demographic and admission data, ECMO technical specifications, non-ECMO therapies, coagulation parameters, and blood product administration. A novel grading scale was used to define hemorrhagic complications (major, intermediate, and minor) and major thromboembolic complications. Main Results Seventy-six ECMO patients were identified 31 during the pre-implementation period and 45 in the post-implementation period. The overall observed mortality was 33% with no difference between groups. Compared to pre-implementation, the post-implementation group experienced fewer major hemorrhagic and major thrombotic complications and less severe hemorrhagic complications and received less RBC transfusion volume per kg. Conclusions Use of a context-responsive anticoagulation and transfusion guideline was associated with a reduction in hemorrhagic and thrombotic complications and reduced RBC transfusion requirements. Clinical outcomes were based on echocardiography results. Results We retrospectively identified patients with symptomatic mitral bioprosthetic valve dysfunction (n = 58) and failed annuloplasty rings (n = 14) who underwent redo SRMVR (n = 36) or TAMVI (n = 36). The Society of Thoracic Surgeons Predicted Risk of Mortality scores were higher in the TAMVI group (median 9.52) than in the SRMVR group (median 5.59) (p-value = 0.02). TAMVI patients were more severe in New York Heart Association (p-value = 0.04). The total procedure time (skin to skin) and length of stay after procedures were significantly shorter in the TAMVI group, and no significant difference in mortality was noted after adjustment for confounding factors (p-value = 0.11). The overall mean mitral valve pressure gradient was lower in the TAMVI group than in the SRMVR group at 24 months (p less then 0.01). Both groups presented a decrease in the severity of mitral and tricuspid regurgitation at 3-24 months. Conclusions In conclusion, the statistical analysis is still not robust enough to make a claim that TAMVI is an appropriate alternative. Invasive micropapillary carcinoma (IMPC) is a rare distinct histopathological subtype, characterized by the presence of carcinoma cells displaying reverse polarity. Only limited clinicopathological information is available regarding pancreatic IMPC. The aim of the present study was to clarify the clinicopathological features of pancreatic IMPC and the usefulness of protein kinase C (PKC)ζ immunostaining for the detection of reverse polarity. We reviewed 242 consecutive surgically resected specimens of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma and selected samples with an IMPC component. Clinicopathological characteristics were compared between the IMPC and non-IMPC groups. Immunohistochemical staining for PKCζ was performed using an autostainer. In total, 14 cases had an IMPC component (5.8%). The extent of IMPC component ranged from 5 to 20%. There were no significant differences in tumor location, T category, lymph node metastatic status, preoperative carbohydrate antigen 19-9 level, resection status and overall survival between the IMPC and non-IMPC groups. Immunostaining for PKCζ clearly showed reverse polarity of the neoplastic cells of IMPC. The anti-inflammatory activity of curcumin has also been described in numerous systemic inflammatory pathologies and tumors. Specifically, the biological, pharmaceutical and nutraceutical properties of curcumin are associated with its ability to downregulate the expression of the following genes IκBα, cyclooxygenase 2, prostaglandin E2, interleukin (IL)-1, IL-6, IL-8 and tumor necrosis factor-α. According to this finding, curcumin may be useful in the treatment of some retinal disorders. In DR, proliferative vitreoretinopathy and AMD, beneficial effects have been observed following treatment with curcumin, including slowing down of the inflammatory process. However, the pathogenesis of diabetic ischemic stroke has not yet been fully clarified. The aim of the present study was to investigate the underlying effects of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) and the matrix metalloproteinase inhibitor BB-94 on diabetic stroke. In vitro experiments were performed using oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (OGD/R) model cells, established using HT22 mouse hippocampal cells. MTT assays and flow cytometry revealed that BB-94 prominently induced the proliferation of the OGD/R model cells and prevented their apoptosis. When EPCs and BB-94 were applied to the OGD/R model cells in combination, proliferation was further accelerated and oxidative damage was attenuated. In vivo experiments were also performed using a middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) mouse model. The results of modified neurological severity scoring and oxidative stress marker analysis demonstrated that EPCs and BB-94 prominently alleviated cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury in the MCAO model ****. Furthermore, reverse transcription-quantitative PCR and western blot assays revealed that EPCs in combination with BB-94 significantly downregulated the expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and upregulated the expression of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases 1 in OGD/R cells and MCAO model ****. Specifically, the biological, pharmaceutical and nutraceutical properties of curcumin are associated with its ability to downregulate the expression of the following genes IκBα, cyclooxygenase 2, prostaglandin E2, interleukin (IL)-1, IL-6, IL-8 and tumor necrosis factor-α. According to this finding, curcumin may be useful in the treatment of some retinal disorders. In DR, proliferative vitreoretinopathy and AMD, beneficial effects have been observed following treatment with curcumin, including slowing down of the inflammatory process. Despite the aforementioned evidence, the main disadvantage of this substance is that it possesses a low solubility, as well as poor oral bioavailability due to its reduced absorption, rapid metabolism and rapid elimination. Therefore, several curcumin analogues have been synthesized and tested over the years, in order to improve the possible obtainable therapeutic effects. The purpose of the present review was to identify new aspects that could guide future research on this important traditional medicine, which is a well-tolerated natural product, and is widely considered safe and economical.Ischemic stroke is a complication of chronic macrovascular disease in type 2 diabetes. However, the pathogenesis of diabetic ischemic stroke has not yet been fully clarified. The aim of the present study was to investigate the underlying effects of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) and the matrix metalloproteinase inhibitor BB-94 on diabetic stroke. In vitro experiments were performed using oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (OGD/R) model cells, established using HT22 mouse hippocampal cells. MTT assays and flow cytometry revealed that BB-94 prominently induced the proliferation of the OGD/R model cells and prevented their apoptosis. When EPCs and BB-94 were applied to the OGD/R model cells in combination, proliferation was further accelerated and oxidative damage was attenuated. In vivo experiments were also performed using a middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) mouse model. The results of modified neurological severity scoring and oxidative stress marker analysis demonstrated that EPCs and BB-94 prominently alleviated cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury in the MCAO model mice. Furthermore, reverse transcription-quantitative PCR and western blot assays revealed that EPCs in combination with BB-94 significantly downregulated the expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and upregulated the expression of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases 1 in OGD/R cells and MCAO model mice. The results suggest that EPCs were successfully isolated and identified, and the OGD/R cell and MCAO mouse models were successfully established. The primary endpoint was the occurrence of dose-limiting toxicity (DLT). The secondary endpoints were treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs), objective response rate, carbohydrate antigen 125 (CA125) response rate, progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). In total, 16 patients were recruited, but four patients dropped out. None of the 12 remaining patients (6 each in the two arms) experienced DLT. Overall, 0 and 4 grade 3 TEAEs (anemia, nausea, neutrophil count decreased and platelet count decreased) occurred in the paclitaxel and cisplatin arm, respectively. Furthermore, one confirmed partial response and two CA125 responses were observed in the cisplatin arm. The median PFS time in the paclitaxel and cisplatin arms was 3.0 months (range, 1.7-4.6 months) and 6.8 months (range, 3.9-11.8 months), respectively, while the median OS time was 11.5 months (range, 8.4-28.8+ months) and not reached (range, 3.9-38.5+ months), respectively. Analyses showed a continuous increase with age on executive performance in most of the variables. However, gender and parents' level of education showed mostly non-significant effects. On the other hand, a significant effect of multilingualism was found on the two analyzed functions, with better results for multilingual children if compared to their bilingual peers. In general, results suggest that the identified pattern of development is consistent with international studies. Although normative data on executive functions are still lacking in Morocco, this unprecedented study will help better understand their development in this context.Individuals experiencing homelessness-an extreme form of social exclusion-have considerably higher risk of being victims of violence than the general population. We analyze the episodes of violence suffered by 504 individuals experiencing homelessness in Spain, as well as the differences between men and women. The results indicate high levels of violence and suggest that gender (specifically, being a woman) is the primary factor driving exposure to violence among this group. Highlighting the reality of women experiencing homelessness can help social, mental health, and addiction services adjust responses to better address the needs of this group and offer comprehensive care.Most medical students receive inadequate preparation to care for sexual and gender minority (SGM) patients. A review of one urban medical school's pre-clinical curriculum was conducted to assess coverage of appropriate SGM health content. Curricula that fully or partially addressed American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) core competencies for SGM health were categorized in an Excel spreadsheet. For partially met competencies, content that addressed the competency along with what was needed to fully address the competency were documented. AAMC SGM competencies that were not addressed at all were also noted. As a secondary source for triangulation, curricular topics were compared to SGM health content prioritized by Vanderbilt, a leader in championing inclusion of SGM content in medical curricula. Of the 30 AAMC competencies, 10 competencies were addressed, 11 were partially addressed, and 9 were not addressed. Gaps were noted in the AAMC domains of professionalism, systems-based practice, interprofessional collaboration, and personal/professional development. Among Vanderbilt topics, the George Washington University (GW) curriculum lacked content in intersex health, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in lesbians, vaginitis in lesbians, efficacy of anal microbicides, anal Pap smears, and anal cancer risk and treatment for men who have sex with men (MSM). Despite these weaknesses, GW clocked greater than the national average at 7.5 hours of SGM content. We measured pneumococcal serotype-specific IgG (Pn-IgG) levels and pneumococcal opsonophagocytic activity (Pn-OPA) against some PCV13-contained serotypes (1, 3, 5, 6A, 7 F, 19A) in 23 young patients with asplenia using surplus serum samples. In this study, 5 and 13 patients had received PCV13 during routine immunizations and PPSV23, respectively; however, >5 years had passed since the last dose in most cases. The geometric mean concentrations (GMCs) of Pn-IgG in all study patients were not under the cutoff level against six serotypes, but they were lower than the those of age-matched healthy controls, as we have previously published. The patients who had received only PPSV23 had significantly lower GMCs against four serotypes (serotypes 1, 6A, 7 F, and 19A) than that of the patients who had received at least one PCV13 vaccination. The patients who had received only PPSV23 also had significantly lower geometric mean titers (GMTs) of Pn-OPA against all three serotypes we measured (serotypes 3, 5, and 19A) than that of the patients who had received at least one PCV13 vaccination. Our findings are useful data that can indicate insufficient immunity in young patients with asplenia against some PCV13 pneumococci serotypes and suggest the need for appropriate vaccinations in the post-PCV13 era.
Fifteen lambs from a flock of 1,000, 5-month-old Romney lambs in the Manawatū region of New Zealand, developed unusual postural and gait abnormalities during the summer of 2020. In mid-January, the lambs were grazing a raphanobrassica crop (

From a distance, all 15 lambs exhibited remarkably similar abnormal posture and gait whereby their weight was borne on their carpi, and they appeared to crawl while walking due to crouched hindquarters and prominent lordosis. Of the affected lambs, five were submitted for clinical examination. All five had normal vital signs.

Thus, this work may pave a new avenue to fabricate low-cost bifunctional HOR/HER catalysts for alkaline fuel cells and water electrolyzer.The aim of the study was to evaluate the clinical features of the patients on HD with COVID-19 and determine the prognostic factors. In this single-center prospective study, a total of 58 chronic renal failure patients on HD and diagnosed COVID-19 infection were enrolled in the study. The patients were divided into two groups according to their need for intensive care unit referral. Demographic features of the patients, clinical manifestations, laboratory data, treatments, and clinical outcome were evaluated. The mean age of 58 HD patients was 63.2 ± 13.8 (30-93) years and female-male ratio was 0.34. SARS-CoV2-PCR positivity rate was 32.8%. 85.2% of patients (n = 46) had bilateral lesions and 14.8% (n = 8) had unilateral one lesion in chest CT. The most common symptoms were fatigue (in 44 patients, 80%) and dyspnea (in 31 patients, 56.4%). The most common comorbidity was HT (in 37 patients, 67.3%). The patients who need intensive care and died were older (p = 0.015). We observed lower platelet and eosinophil counts, potassium levels, higher AST, troponin and CRP levels in the group of patients who need intensive care and died than the group who survived (p = 0.043, 0.005, 0.033, 0.007, 0.001, less then 0.001, respectively). 15.5% of the patients (n = 9) were transferred to intensive care unit. Among them, two were discharged with cure and seven patients died. Mortality rate was 12.1%. Living donor liver transplantation is a treatment option for unresectable hepatic tumors in children.
We enrolled 45 living donor transplantations performed between 1993 and 2018 for liver malignacies, which included hepatoblastoma (n=33), hepatocellular carcinoma (n=10), hepatic angiosarcoma (n=1), and rhabdomyosarcoma (n=1).
No mortality or major morbidities were encountered in any donor, and the complication rate was 9%.In the hepatoblastoma group, 5-year overall and event-free survival rate in recipients was 87.4% and 75.8%, respectively, andmortality was significantly higher in patients after rescue transplantation (p=.001).Inferior vena cava replacement in these recipients appeared to be associated with reduced mortality (p=.034),but this was not confirmed when rescue patients were excluded (p=.629).In hepatocellular carcinoma group, both 5-year overall and event-free survival rates were 75.4% each, andinvasion of hepatic veins was significantly associated with increased risk of recurrence and deaecipients, thus, allowing timely planning according to chemotherapy protocols.
Non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPI) mitigation measures implemented to mitigate COVID-19 has brought unprecedented global impact. Changes in daily living routines, reduction in physical activities, and changes in environmental indicators were suggested to positively impact paediatric asthma indicators in western cultures. Little is known about such impact in developing countries. This study investigated the potential impact of COVID-19 NPI measures on paediatric asthma exacerbation admissions in Northern Jordan.
Aggregate data from a paediatric hospital, Princess Rahma Pediatric Teaching Hospital, and King Abdulla University Teaching Hospital were utilised from 2018 to 2020. The number of paediatric asthma exacerbation admissions was calculated by week and compared by year, lockdown status, and weeks for lockdown (weeks 13-19). The stringency index was correlated with the number of weekly paediatric asthma exacerbation admissions for 2020.
A total of 1,207 paediatric asthma exacerbation admissions westudies are needed to draw public health policies and fine-tune environmental and community policies.
NPI measures in Jordan seem to have positively impacted paediatric asthma exacerbation admissions. Further studies are needed to draw public health policies and fine-tune environmental and community policies.
To evaluate the effect of early bone loss (EBL), on long-term bone stability and future peri-implantitis development.
Patients referred for implant placement between 2005 and 2009 were consecutively treated and followed for 10 years. After 10 years, patients were invited for a scientific diagnostic visit to evaluate implant survival and bone loss. Bone level changes were compared with baseline. Non-parametric testing was performed in cross-tabs (Pearson Chi-square and Fishers's exact test). Kaplan-Meier-estimated survival curves were plotted for different thresholds for EBL at different timepoints. Generalized linear mixed models with binomial distribution and logit link for peri-implantitis were fitted. An adjusted logistic mixed model was made to evaluate peri-implantitis, in relation with smoking status, history of periodontitis, and EBL > 0.5 mm.

The number of paediatric asthma exacerbation admissions was calculated by week and compared by year, lockdown status, and weeks for lockdown (weeks 13-19). The stringency index was correlated with the number of weekly paediatric asthma exacerbation admissions for 2020. A total of 1,207 paediatric asthma exacerbation admissions westudies are needed to draw public health policies and fine-tune environmental and community policies. To evaluate the effect of early bone loss (EBL), on long-term bone stability and future peri-implantitis development. Patients referred for implant placement between 2005 and 2009 were consecutively treated and followed for 10 years. After 10 years, patients were invited for a scientific diagnostic visit to evaluate implant survival and bone loss. Bone level changes were compared with baseline. Non-parametric testing was performed in cross-tabs (Pearson Chi-square and Fishers's exact test). Kaplan-Meier-estimated survival curves were plotted for different thresholds for EBL at different timepoints. Generalized linear mixed models with binomial distribution and logit link for peri-implantitis were fitted. An adjusted logistic mixed model was made to evaluate peri-implantitis, in relation with smoking status, history of periodontitis, and EBL > 0.5 mm. Four hundred and seven patients (mean age of 64.86 years [range 28-92, SD 10.11]), with 1482 implants, responded to the 10-year recall invitation. Afterration number B670201524796. Conclusions At our institution, the Aging Resiliently group yielded meaningful outcomes for older veterans presenting with different problems related to aging.Clinical Implications This Aging Resiliently group proved to be a potential effective, feasible, and acceptable psychotherapy for older veterans in our established local primary care setting.The Unmet need for contraception increases unintended pregnancies and jeopardizes women's health and reproductive rights. Social determinants are associated with an unmet need for contraception. Still, it is unclear if age is a social determinant of disparities in reproductive health-related outcomes in all Colombian women regardless of marital status. This study used the 2015 Colombian Demographic and Health Survey to determine the unmet need for contraception among 24,245 sexually active women aged 13-49. Age was associated with the unmet need for contraception using a multivariate analysis. Absolute and relative inequalities were estimated using differences in prevalence and odds ratios, respectively. The prevalence of unmet need for contraception was significantly higher in married women aged 13-19 years old (19.8%) than their unmarried counterparts (16.8%), and all older age groups either married or unmarried. Women 13-19 years old [OR = 2.98 (2.49-3.57)] and 20-29 years old [OR = 1.71(1.48-1.97)] are more likely to have an unmet need for contraception than those 40-49 years old. Age disparities are barriers to attaining the Sustainable Development Goals for sexual and reproductive health. Cultural, social, and access barriers demand societies to tailor health care services to meet younger women's needs to narrow the age gap.The present study intended to explore and compare the mediating role of negative thoughts between the sense of parental competence and postpartum depression in postpartum mothers who gave birth to their baby either through vaginal or cesarean delivery. A purposive sample of 170 women suffering from postpartum depression was recruited from different hospitals in Gujrat, Pakistan. Urdu versions of the Parenting Sense of Competency Scale, Automatic Thoughts Questionnaire, and Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale were used to measure the focal constructs of the study. Data were collected from May 2018 to October 2018. Path analysis revealed that parental competence had negative direct effects on postpartum depression (β = -.17, p less then .05) and negative thoughts (β = -.27, p less then .05) and both of these effects were stronger for women with cesarean delivery (Δβ = .04, p less then .001; Δβ = .36, p less then .001, respectively). Negative thoughts had a positive direct effect on postpartum depression (β = .43, p less then .05) and this direct effect was also stronger among women with cesarean delivery (Δβ = -.12, p less then .001). Furthermore, parental competence reduced the negative thoughts, which in turn, lowered the postpartum depression (β = -.12, p less then .05), however, this indirect effect was true only for the group of women with cesarean delivery (Δβ = .20, p less then .05). Our findings indicate the powerful role of parental competence in reducing the likelihood of postpartum depression through the regulation of negative thoughts and highlight that cesarean delivery may increase mothers' vulnerability to negative thoughts and postpartum depression.Purpose Chronic renal failure (CRF) is associated with impairment of hippocampal neurons. Xanthine Oxidase method, fluorescence spectrophotometry and flow cytometry were applied to detect superoxide dismutase (***) content, reactive oxygen species (ROS) level and apoptosis in hippocampal neurons, respectively. The levels of phosphorylated (p)-PERK, phosphorylated (p)-eIF2α, CHOP, Bax, C-Caspase-3 and Bcl-2 in rats were measured using Western blot. Then, the neurotoxicity of serum from CRF rats was assessed in rat hippocampal neurons after treatment with rat CRF serum and transfection with or without PERK overexpression or knockdown plasmid.Results *** activity was reduced, while ROS level and apoptosis rate were increased in hippocampal tissues of CRF rats. PERK-eIF2α-ATF4 and apoptosis pathways were activated in CRF rats. Cells treated with serum from CRF rats showed increases in apoptosis rate and LDH and ROS levels, and decreases in cell viability and *** activity. However, overexpressed PERK could reverse the cytotoxic effect of serum from CRF rats. Here, we presented requests that expressed politeness distinctions through the voice (polite/rude) and explicit linguistic markers (half of the requests began with Please). Thirty participants performed a social perception task (rating friendliness) while their electroencephalogram was recorded. Behaviorally, vocal politeness strategies had a **** stronger influence on the perceived friendliness than the linguistic marker. Event-related potentials revealed rapid effects of (im)polite voices on cortical activity prior to ~300 ms; P200 amplitudes increased for polite versus rude voices, suggesting that the speaker's polite stance was registered as more salient in our task. At later stages, politeness distinctions encoded by the speaker's voice and their use of Please interacted, modulating activity in the N400 (300-500 ms) and late positivity (600-800 ms) time windows. Patterns of results suggest that initial attention deployment to politeness cues is rapidly influenced by the motivational significance of a speaker's voice. At later stages, processes for integrating vocal and lexical information resulted in increased cognitive effort to reevaluate utterances with ambiguous/contradictory cues. The potential influence of social anxiety on the P200 effect is also discussed.
