191 youth baseball players aged 7-13 years old participated and were divided into the Tee Ball (˂9.5 years) and Major (≥9.5 years) divisions. We measured the swing velocity for batting performance, medicine ball (MB) **** throw and modified star excursion balance test (SEBT) for physical function, and hip muscle torque for lower extremity muscle strength.
Height and MB **** throw (β=0.403 and 0.380) for physical function (R2=0.646), and height and internal rotation (IR) torque of the step leg (β=0.620 and 0.216) in lower extremity muscle strength (R2=0.616) were all extracted as related independents for the multiple regression analysis on swing velocity in all subjects. Additionally, height, MB **** throw and modified SEBT in the pivot leg (β=0.420, 0.324 and 0.218) for the Major division (R2=0.579), and IR torque of the pivot leg and step leg (β=0.555 and 0.525) for the Tee Ball Division (R2=0.568) were selected.

The automatic segmentation of medical images is an important task in clinical applications. However, due to the complexity of the background of the organs, the unclear boundary, and the variable size of different organs, some of the features are lost during network learning, and the segmentation accuracy is low. To address these issues, This prompted us to study whether it is possible to better preserve the deep feature information of the image and solve the problem of low segmentation caused by unclear image boundaries.
In this study, we (1) build a reliable deep learning network framework, named BGRANet,to improve the segmentation performance for medical images; (2) propose a packet rotation convolutional fusion encoder network to extract features; (3) build a boundary enhanced guided packet rotation dual attention decoder network, which is used to enhance the boundary of the segmentation map and effectively fuse more prior information; and (4) propose a multi-resolution fusion module to generate high-resolution feature maps. We demonstrate the effffectiveness of the proposed method on two publicly available datasets.
BGRANet has been trained and tested on the prepared dataset and the experimental results show that our proposed model has better segmentation performance. For 4 class classifification (CHAOS dataset), the average dice similarity coeffiffifficient reached 91.73%. For 2 class classifification (Herlev dataset), the prediction, sensitivity, specifificity, accuracy, and Dice reached 93.75%, 94.30%, 98.19%, 97.43%, and 98.08% respectively. The experimental results show that BGRANet can improve the segmentation effffect for medical images.

In this work, we describe an integrated framework for automatic modelling of human musculoskeletal ligaments.
We combine statistical shape modelling with geometric algorithms to automatically identify insertion sites, based on which geometric surface/volume meshes are created. As clinical use case, the framework has been applied to generate models of the forearm interosseous membrane. Ligament insertion sites in the statistical model were defined according to anatomical predictions following a published approach.
For evaluation we compared the generated sites, as well as the ligament shapes, to data obtained from a cadaveric study, involving five forearms with 15 ligaments. Our framework permitted the creation of models approximating ligaments' shapes with good fidelity. However, we found that the statistical model trained with the state-of-the-art prediction of the insertion sites was not always reliable. Average mean square errors as well as Hausdorff distances of the meshes could increase by an order of magnitude, as compared to employing known insertion locations of the cadaveric study. Using those, an average mean square error of 0.59mm and an average Hausdorff distance of less than 7mm resulted, for all ligaments.

Children with pediatric spasticity often have comorbidities that can cloud causation around an adverse event (AE). If a serious AE occurs, clear documentation of information sharing and informed consent as well as the provider-patient relationship are critical to minimizing litigation risks. Reviewing the litigation that has occurred following BoNT-A for pediatric spasticity can offer insight into how providers' perspectives regarding this intervention may differ from those of the public who might serve as jurists. This article offers suggestions for content sharing during the consent process to optimize patient understanding about potential adverse events.This case report details the complex rehabilitation of an adolescent patient with congenital heart disease with anomalous origin of the left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery (ALCAPA) who presented with a sudden cardiac arrest. The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health for Children and Youth, World Health Organization (ICF-CY WHO) principles were used to guide the course of the patient's acute inpatient rehabilitation.

There is a high prevalence of liver injury (LI) in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19); however, few large-scale studies assessing risk factors and clinical outcomes in these patients have been done.
To evaluate the risk factors and clinical outcomes associated with LI in a large inpatient cohort of COVID-19 patients.
Adult patients with COVID-19 between March 1 and April 30, 2020, were included. LI was defined as peak levels of alanine aminotransferase/aspartate aminotransferase that were 3 times the ULN or peak levels in alkaline phosphatase/total bilirubin that were 2 times the ULN. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/iwp-2.html Mild elevation in liver enzymes (MEL) was defined as abnormal peak liver enzyme levels lower than the threshold for LI. Patients with MEL and LI were compared to a control group comprising patients with normal liver enzymes throughout hospitalization.
Of 1935 hospitalized COVID-19 patients, 1031 (53.2%) had MEL and 396 (20.5%) had LI. Compared to control patients, MEL and LI groups contained proportionately more men. Patients in the MEL cohort were older compared to control, and African-Americans were more highly represented in the LI group. Patients with LI had an increased risk of mortality (relative risk [RR] 4.26), intensive care unit admission (RR, 5.52), intubation (RR, 11.01), 30-day readmission (RR, 1.81), length of hospitalization, and intensive care unit stay (10.49 and 10.06days, respectively) compared to control.

Regular monitoring and treatment of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) are known to reduce the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma. We sought to describe patterns of monitoring and treatment among adults diagnosed with CHB in Australia.
Population-based prospective cohort study of Australian adults aged 45 + years followed by record-linkage to hepatitis B notifications, monitoring and treatment. Proportions of those with CHB who had viral load test; were dispensed antiviral treatment; and had ultrasound surveillance were estimated. The characteristics associated with viral load test and ultrasound surveillance were examined using logistic regression.
A total of 576 adults with CHB were identified. From 2008 to 2015, 14.8% (85/576) had at least one viral load test recorded every 2years and 19.1% (110/576) had at least one antiviral treatment recorded, 19.9% (58/292) had at least one ultrasound recorded every year among those eligible for ultrasound surveillance. A record of having at least one viral load test every 2years was more likely among adults born in Asia compared to Australian-born (21.4% vs 8.6%), those notified in more recent years compared to earlier years, and those on antiviral treatment compared to not on treatment. Increasing proportions of cases had records of at least one viral load test over time (2008 10.5%, 2015 27.2%) and at least one antiviral treatment (2008 3.0%, 2015 18.5%).

Functional dyspepsia (FD) has a high prevalence worldwide and reduces patients' quality of life. The etiology of FD is likely multifactorial. Although two studies showed an inverse association between exercise habits and FD, evidence regarding the association between exercise habits and FD remains scarce.
This study aimed to investigate the association between exercise habits and FD among the young Japanese population, taking the presence or absence of an exercise partner as an additional variable.
The study subjects consisted of 8923 Japanese university students. The definition of FD was based on the Rome III criteria. Information on exercise frequency, exercise intensity, and exercise partners was obtained from a self-administered questionnaire.
The prevalence of FD was 1.9% in this cohort. There is a high prevalence of liver injury (LI) in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19); however, few large-scale studies assessing risk factors and clinical outcomes in these patients have been done. To evaluate the risk factors and clinical outcomes associated with LI in a large inpatient cohort of COVID-19 patients. Adult patients with COVID-19 between March 1 and April 30, 2020, were included. LI was defined as peak levels of alanine aminotransferase/aspartate aminotransferase that were 3 times the ULN or peak levels in alkaline phosphatase/total bilirubin that were 2 times the ULN. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/iwp-2.html Mild elevation in liver enzymes (MEL) was defined as abnormal peak liver enzyme levels lower than the threshold for LI. Patients with MEL and LI were compared to a control group comprising patients with normal liver enzymes throughout hospitalization. We sought to describe patterns of monitoring and treatment among adults diagnosed with CHB in Australia. Population-based prospective cohort study of Australian adults aged 45 + years followed by record-linkage to hepatitis B notifications, monitoring and treatment. Proportions of those with CHB who had viral load test; were dispensed antiviral treatment; and had ultrasound surveillance were estimated. The characteristics associated with viral load test and ultrasound surveillance were examined using logistic regression. A total of 576 adults with CHB were identified. From 2008 to 2015, 14.8% (85/576) had at least one viral load test recorded every 2years and 19.1% (110/576) had at least one antiviral treatment recorded, 19.9% (58/292) had at least one ultrasound recorded every year among those eligible for ultrasound surveillance. A record of having at least one viral load test every 2years was more likely among adults born in Asia compared to Australian-born (21.4% vs 8.6%), those notified in more recent years compared to earlier years, and those on antiviral treatment compared to not on treatment. Cortical spreading depression or depolarization triggered by acute or chronic superficial brain bleeding, a contributor to brain injury in other neurological diseases, may be the underlying mechanism. We categorize the literature into useful topics and article types and enable analysis of the contents, pace, and emphasis of research during the crisis with integration of Altmetric data. These topics include therapeutics, disease forecasting, as well as growing areas such as "long COVID" and studies of inequality. Four large-scale studies provide evidence that collectivism (versus individualism) positively predicts mask usage-both within the United States and across the world. We present a novel classification of A-minors in terms of RNA secondary structure where each nucleotide of an A-minor is attributed to the stem or loop, and each pair of nucleotides is attributed to their relative position within the secondary structure. By analyzing classes of A-minors in known RNA structures, we found that the largest classes are mostly homogeneous and preferably localize with known A-minor co-motifs, e.g. tetraloop-tetraloop receptor and coaxial stacking. Detailed analysis of local A-minors within internal loops revealed a novel recurrent RNA tertiary motif, the across-bulged motif. Interestingly, the motif resembles the previously known GAAA/11nt motif but with the local adenines performing the role of the GAAA-tetraloop. By using machine learning, we show that particular classes of local A-minors can be predicted from sequence and secondary structure. If these aberrant genes become transcribed, aberrations can be detected by RNA sequencing, which will also provide information on the transcript abundance revealing the expression levels of the aberrant genes. RNA sequencing is considered the technique of choice when studying gene expression and identifying new RNA species. This is due to the quantitative and qualitative improvement that it has brought to transcriptome analysis, offering a resolution that allows research into different layers of transcriptome complexity. It has also been successful in identifying biomarkers, fusion genes, tumor suppressors, and uncovering new targets responsible for drug resistance in gynecological cancers. To illustrate that we here review the role of RNA sequencing in studies that enhanced our understanding of the molecular pathology of gynecological cancers.

Hallux valgus is a disease that can be treated with many different surgical procedures. In our study, we aimed to compare patients with and without dorsal neutralization plate after distal metatarsal osteotomy and fixation with compression screws.
The files of 59 patients with 89 feet operated with the diagnosis of moderate degree hallux valgus have been examined retrospectively. Hallux valgus angles, AOFAS, VAS and satisfaction scores, time to return to work of both groups were compared. The cases in which only screw fixation was performed were mobilized with the hallux valgus apparatus for 6weeks postoperatively, while the cases in which dorsal neutralization plate was performed were immediately mobilized full weightbearing without using an additional apparatus. Patients with a minimum follow-up of 2years were included in the study.
There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in terms of being bilateral (p = 0.457), mean age (p = 0.105) and gender data (p = 0.105). There was no significant difference in the preop and postop second year hallux valgus angles, AOFAS, VAS and satisfaction scores of the patients. There was a significant difference in the time to return to work (p < 0.001) and the 6th week AOFAS (p < 0.001), VAS (p < 0.001) and postop satisfaction (p < 0.001) scores between the two groups.

Dislocations of the hip joint are a common and clinically relevant complication following total hip arthroplasty (THA). Hip-abduction braces are currently used following operative or non-operative treatment of THA dislocations to prevent re-dislocations. However, the clinical and biomechanical effectiveness of such braces is still controversial.
A total of 30 volunteers were measured during standing and during sitting up and down from a chair task wearing a hip brace set at 70°, 90° or no hip flexion limitation. Range of motion of the hip joint was measured in all directions by an inertial sensor system. Further it has been evaluated if the range of motion would be reduced by the additional use of an arthrodesis cushion.
The use of a hip brace set up with flexion limitation did reduce hip ROM in all directions significantly compared to unhinged brace (p < 0.001-0.035). Performing the "sit down and stand-up task" the brace set up at 70° flexion limitation did reduce maximum hip flexion significantly (p = 0.008). However, in most cases the measured hip flexion angles were greater than the settings of the hip brace should have allowed. The additional use of a cushion can further limit hip motion while sitting up and down from a chair.

The primary aim of the study is to compare the patient outcome in medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction (MPFLR) or MPFLR concurrent with trochleoplasty (MPFLR + TP) and correlate it with the degree of trochlear dysplasia (TD). The secondary aim is to review TD classification, outcome measure, chronological and geographical trend of such studies in the past decade.
A systemic review of the literature in the past decade on studies of patients with patella instability and underwent either a MPFLR or MPFLR + TP. The degree of TD with the patient outcome was correlated and compared between the 2 groups. The TD classification, outcome measures, chronological and geographical trends of these studies were documented.
There is no statistical difference in the overall improvement in the compared outcome scores between the 2 groups. However, the MPFLR studies reported a total of 16 re-dislocation in contrast to none in the MPFLR + TP studies. The 24 selected studies in the current review utilized differentoice of procedure. MPFLR was more commonly performed and studied than MPFLR + TP in the past decade.
Though there is an overall improvement in post-operative outcomes scores with no statistical significance between MPFLR and MPFLR + TP, the documented re-dislocations in the MPFLR studies suggested an undetermined zone where the choice of procedure could result in a different outcome. The current review did not show correlation between the degree of TD with the patient outcome to provide a clear indication for either procedure according to the degree of TD. The diverse TD classifications and varied outcome measures indicated the need for standardization and consistency in documentation to guide the treating clinician in the choice of procedure. More than 80% of patients with ovarian epithelial cancer (OEC) show complete remission after initial treatment but eventually experience recurrence of the disease. This study aimed to develop a radiomics signature to identify a new prognostic indicator based on preoperative ultrasound imaging.

We defined the region of interest (ROI) of the tumor by manually drawing the tumor contour on the ultrasound image of the lesion. The radiomics features were extracted from ultrasound images. Combined with the ultrasound radiomics features, significant clinical variables were also used to establish predictive models for 5-year progression-free survival (PFS) prediction. Hip-abduction braces are currently used following operative or non-operative treatment of THA dislocations to prevent re-dislocations. However, the clinical and biomechanical effectiveness of such braces is still controversial. A total of 30 volunteers were measured during standing and during sitting up and down from a chair task wearing a hip brace set at 70°, 90° or no hip flexion limitation. Range of motion of the hip joint was measured in all directions by an inertial sensor system. Further it has been evaluated if the range of motion would be reduced by the additional use of an arthrodesis cushion. The use of a hip brace set up with flexion limitation did reduce hip ROM in all directions significantly compared to unhinged brace (p < 0.001-0.035). Performing the "sit down and stand-up task" the brace set up at 70° flexion limitation did reduce maximum hip flexion significantly (p = 0.008). However, in most cases the measured hip flexion angles were greater than the settings of the hip brace should have allowed. The primary aim of the study is to compare the patient outcome in medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction (MPFLR) or MPFLR concurrent with trochleoplasty (MPFLR + TP) and correlate it with the degree of trochlear dysplasia (TD). The secondary aim is to review TD classification, outcome measure, chronological and geographical trend of such studies in the past decade. A systemic review of the literature in the past decade on studies of patients with patella instability and underwent either a MPFLR or MPFLR + TP. The degree of TD with the patient outcome was correlated and compared between the 2 groups. The TD classification, outcome measures, chronological and geographical trends of these studies were documented. There is no statistical difference in the overall improvement in the compared outcome scores between the 2 groups. However, the MPFLR studies reported a total of 16 re-dislocation in contrast to none in the MPFLR + TP studies. The 24 selected studies in the current review utilized differentoice of procedure. MPFLR was more commonly performed and studied than MPFLR + TP in the past decade. The deubiquitinating enzyme USP1 contains highly conserved motifs forming its catalytic center. Recently, the COSMIC mutation database identified a mutation in USP1 at Asp-199 in endometrial cancer. Here, we investigated the role of Asp-199 for USP1 function. A single-centre prospective cohort study enrolled 21 patients with PPP who had failed physiotherapy techniques. Each participant underwent BoNT injection to muscles of the pelvic floor and pudendal nerve block. Questionnaires and digital vaginal examinations were conducted at baseline, six, 12 and 26weeks. Pain score quantification used visual analogue scales (VAS) and numerical rating scales (NRS). Other outcome assessments included The World Health Organization Quality of Life instrument (WHOQoL-BREF), Pain Catastrophising Scale (PCS), and modified Australian Pelvic Floor Questionnaire (APFQ). The aim of this study was to investigate differences in cerebral blood flow (CBF) and functional networks between transient global amnesia (TGA) patients with a single event and those with recurrent events using arterial spin labeling (ASL) MRI.
We enrolled patients with TGA and classified them into two groups according to the number of TGA events TGA patients with a single event and those with recurrent events. MRI scans were performed within 24h after TGA ictal onset in all patients. We quantified CBF and analyzed the functional network based on CBF using graph theory, and determined the differences in CBF and functional networks between the groups.
We enrolled 44 patients with TGA. Among them, 6 patients had recurrent TGA events, whereas 38 patients had a single TGA event. No regions had significantly different CBFs between TGA patients with recurrent events and those with a single event. The global functional network analysis found that the eccentricity was significantly higher in TGA patients with recurrent events than in those with a single event (5.829 vs. 4.657, p=.001). The local functional network analysis showed that several regions had significantly different betweenness centrality and eccentricity measures between TGA patients with recurrent events and those with a single event.

Chronic pruritus (CP) significantly affects patients' health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Very few self-reported HRQoL questionnaires exploring CP were developed according to international guidelines thus limiting their use in pre-authorization trials.
To develop a self-reported HRQoL questionnaire in patients with CP due to psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp or idiopathic dermatitis; to explore its preliminary psychometric properties.
The study was performed in France. A conceptual framework was developed based on a structured literature review and experts' insight, and was improved with 3 focus groups involving 19 participants. A 50-items questionnaire was created and tested with 21 participants using cognitive debriefings; 11 items were removed. A cross-sectional study including 251 participants was performed to explore the preliminary psychometric properties of the 39-item questionnaire. Dimensionality was explored using principal component analysis. Cronbach's alpha and correlation coefficients (inter-item, item-total score and item-dimension score) were measured.

Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) has been shown to highly effective in the treatment of recurrent or refractory Clostridioides difficile infection (rCDI) in many countries of the world. Not until 2018, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Taiwan approved the application of FMT for rCDI under a special law. The study reported the first implementation of the technology in the medical center in Taiwan and the preliminary outcome.
FMT was used to treat patients with rCDI in Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. FMT was delivered by gastroenterologists using colonoscope. Strict donor screening was performed according to the guidelines. We followed up the clinical course of patients after FMT. 16S rRNA sequencing of fecal samples for donor, and also recipient before and after FMT was carried out.
From September 2018 to June 2020, 39 patients with rCDI received FMT, with a successful rate of 89.7%. Two patients died due to causes unrelated to FMT, and two other cases showed no clinical improvement after the procedure. High school and college students showed the best pass rate during donor screening. The presence of multi-drug resistant pathogen was the most common cause for screening failure. We demonstrated in a case the use of rRNA sequencing as a biomarker indicating for the improvement of dysbiosis in a patient after FMT.

Orthognathic Surgery (OGS) is a surgery for patients with dento-facial deformity but not all patients are satisfied with its outcome. The purpose of this study is to find out the short-term and long-term psychological impact and quality-of-life of OGS.
77 participants receiving OGS and 32 age and gender-matched controls were enrolled. The data of questionnaires were collected before OGS, one month and 9 months after OGS, including short form of the Derriford-Appearance-Scale (DAS-24), Big-Five-Inventory (BFI), Hospital-Anxiety-and-Depression-Scale (HADS), Pittsburgh-sleep-quality-index (PSQI), and 36-Item Short-Form-Health-Survey (SF-36). Variables were presented as mean±standard deviation or frequency. Paired t-test, ANOVA and MANOVA were used to evaluate the pre-and post-surgery data.

However, the low mutational burden presented by many lesions challenges the generalization of these solutions, requiring the diversification of neoantigen sources. Oncoproteogenomics utilizing customized databases for protein annotation by mass spectrometry (MS) is a powerful tool towards this end. Expanding the concept towards exploring proteoforms originated from post-translational modifications (PTMs) will be decisive to improve molecular subtyping and provide potentially targetable functional nodes with increased cancer specificity. Walking through the path of systems biology, we highlight that alterations in protein glycosylation at the cell surface not only have functional impact on cancer progression and dissemination but also originate unique molecular fingerprints for targeted therapeutics. Moreover, we discuss the outstanding challenges required to accommodate glycoproteomics in oncoproteogenomics platforms. We envisage that such rationale may flag a rather neglected research field, generating novel paradigms for precision oncology and immunotherapy.The vagina contains at least a billion microbial cells, dominated by lactobacilli. Here we perform metagenomic shotgun sequencing on cervical and fecal samples from a cohort of 516 Chinese women of reproductive age, and cervical, fecal, and salivary samples from a second cohort of 632 women. Factors such as pregnancy, delivery histories, cesarean section, and breast-feeding were all more important than menstrual cycle in shaping the microbiome, and such information would be necessary before trying to interpret differences between vagino-cervical microbiome data. Greater proportion of Bifidobacterium breve was seen with older age at sexual debut. The relative abundance of lactobacilli especially Lactobacillus crispatus was negatively associated with pregnancy history. Potential markers for lack of menstrual regularity, heavy flow, dysmenorrhea, and contraceptives were also identified. Lactobacilli were rare during breast-feeding or post-menopause. Other features such as mood fluctuations and facial speckles could potentially be predicted from the vagino-cervical microbiome. Gut and salivary microbiome, plasma vitamins, metals, amino acids, and hormones showed associations with the vagino-cervical microbiome. Our results offer an unprecedented glimpse into the microbiota of the female reproductive tract and call for international collaborations to better understand its long-term health impact other than in the settings of infection or pre-term birth.

To compare manual and powered tooth brushing (MT and PT) with respect to patient compliance to brushing frequency advice, plaque removal and severity of oral mucositis (OM) in patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) after high-dose chemotherapy.
A randomized controlled trial was conducted. Forty-six patients scheduled to receive myeloablative conditioning regimen before autologous HSCT were included and randomly assigned to control (MT, n=23) or test (PT, n=23) groups. Starting at day 1 (day of hospital admission for HSCT), brushing frequency (patient recorded diary), plaque scores (Plaque Control Index) and oral mucositis (Oral Mucositis Nursing Index) were recorded daily. Data for days 1 to 17 were analysed using regression analysis and general linear models.

This research was mixed methods with phenomenology qualitative design and factor analysis. The samples consisted of 253 nurse executives from 65 private hospitals in Thailand. The content validity test was at 0.91, and the reliability was at 0.91. The data were analysed using content analysis and confirmatory factor analysis.
There were 7 components of the strategic leadership with 75 competencies with factor loadings as follows strategic-innovative thinking and planning (0.89), developing today's and tomorrow's leaders (0.89), relating the parts to the whole (0.82), building partnership (0.78), making it happen (0.78), corporate spirit (0.73) and giving direction (0.66).
The new knowledge was 7 components with 75 competencies particularly the top 3 components for developing nurse executives in strategic thinking and innovation of nursing management to become strong leaders of today and tomorrow.

Three Caribbean acroporids (Acropora palmata, A. cervicornis and their F1 hybrid) are sympatric across **** of their range, but often occupy different depth and light habitats. Throughout this range, both species and their hybrid associate with the endosymbiotic dinoflagellate Symbiodinium 'fitti'. Because light (and therefore depth) influences the physiology of dinoflagellates, we investigated whether S. 'fitti' populations from each host taxon were differentiated genetically. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) among S. 'fitti' strains were identified by aligning shallow metagenomic sequences of acroporid colonies sampled from across the Caribbean to a ~600-Mb draft assembly of the S. 'fitti' genome (from the CFL14120 A. cervicornis metagenome). Phylogenomic and multivariate analyses revealed that genomic variation among S. 'fitti' strains partitioned to each host taxon rather than by biogeographical origin. This is particularly noteworthy because the hybrid has a sparse fossil record and may be of relatively recent origin. A subset (37.6%) of the SNPs putatively under selection were nonsynonymous mutations predicted to alter protein efficiency. Differences in genomic variation of S. The present study aimed to assess the relative validity and reliability of a modified Food and Nutrition Literacy (M-FNLIT) questionnaire in primary school children in the city of Mashhad. The study was conducted in four phases. In the first step, the content and face validity of the questionnaire was evaluated by Delphi consensus as well as interviewing the students. Then, construct validity was examined using Confirmatory Factor Analyses (CFA). The internal consistency and reliability of the questionnaire were also assessed using Cronbach α and Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC), respectively. Finally, a Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) analysis was performed to detect the cut-off scores of the M-FNLIT scale. Findings of two rounds of Delphi showed satisfactory levels of Content Validity Ratio (CVR) 0.72 and 0.92, Content Validity Index (CVI) 0.92 and 0.98, respectively. The results of CFA for domains and subscales of M-FNLIT questionnaire including cognitive domain (understanding food and nutrition information and nutritional health knowledge) and skill domain (functional, food choice, interactive, and critical skills) indicated acceptable fit indices. M-FNLIT subscale-specific Cronbach α values ranged between 0.68 to 0.8 and ICC was 0.95 (CI 0.93-96). The Final questionnaire included 40 items (36 Likert-type and 4 true-false items). FNLIT scores were categorized as low (≤58), medium (>58- less then 81), and high (≥81). The M-FNLIT questionnaire has a good level of validity and reliability to measure food and nutrition literacy in primary school children. The questionnaire can be applied in the evaluation of nutritional interventions in this age group.
Tonsillectomy is a painful surgery performed in cases of recurrent tonsillitis. Application of platelet-rich plasma to diminish the pain and morbidity post-tonsillectomy is gaining importance. This study evaluated post-operative pain and morbidity after autologous platelet-rich plasma application on the tonsil beds during tonsillectomy.
Participants were randomised into group 1 (n = 28, peri-operative platelet-rich plasma intervention) and group 2 (n = 28, control). Post-tonsillectomy, patients were assessed (day 0, 1, 2, 3, 7 and 14) for pain, healing and time taken to return to normal activity. Data were analysed by independent t-test and chi-square test with p ≤ 0.05 as the significance level.
A significant decrease in the mean pain score up to day 7 (p < 0.05) and tonsillar fossae healing on days 2 and 3 (p < 0.05) post-tonsillectomy was noted. The majority of the patients returned to their routine activities after a week post-tonsillectomy.

Children aged 3 months to 18 years with CLD were prospectively enrolled (January 2016 to October 2018). SGNA was performed as per validated pro forma for children. Nutritional categories were categorised into three groups A (well-nourished), B (moderately malnourished) and C (severely malnourished). Agreement between SGNA and anthropometric measures, prediction of morbidity and death or liver transplantation (LT) at 1-year post-enrolment by SGNA and inter-observer reliability of SGNA were assessed. Ninety-two subjects were enrolled, median age 23·5 (3-216) months. SGNA classified 47 patients (51·1 %) in group A, 26 (28·3 %) in group B and 19 (20·6 %) in group C. Kendall coefficients disclosed significant association of SGNA with all anthropometric measurements, greatest with weight for age (r = -0·637), height for age (r = -0·581) and mid-arm fat area (r = -0·449). At 12 months follow-up, twenty children died and four received LT. A significantly higher number of children with malnutrition (groups B and C) had poor outcome (OR 6·74 (95 % CI 2·21, 20·55), P = 0·001), increased risk of hospital readmission (OR 12·2 (95 % CI 4·60, 35·88), P = 0·001), higher rate of infectious complications (OR 22·68 (95 % CI 7·29, 70·53), P less then 0·0001) and lower median survival with native liver (Log Rank less then 0·001) as compared with group A. Inter-observer agreement in assessment of SGNA was good (90·2 %). SGNA, in contrast to anthropometric measures, is a better nutritional assessment tool. This paper presents a supplementary measure for poverty at older ages, based on an adaption of a model for correcting survivorship bias in rate of return data for mutual funds. Using U.S. longitudinal data from the Health and Retirement Study (HRS) for 1996 and 2002-2012 for the same cohort, we develop a new estimate of poverty at older ages that suggests that traditional cross-sectional measures understate the risk of falling into poverty by roughly a quarter. This finding has important implications for social programs that relate to the causes and consequences of the selectivity bias.
