The aim of this study was to assess whether a 3-day LRD improved the bowel cleansing quality in patients with risk factors of poor bowel cleansing.
Post hoc analysis of a randomized controlled trial carried out between December 2017 and March 2018 in a tertiary care hospital. Patients with high risk of poor bowel cleansing were selected following a validated score. The patients were randomized to the 1-day LRD or 3-day LRD groups. All patients received a 2-L split-dose of polyethylene glycol plus ascorbic acid. Intention-to-treat (ITT) and per-protocol (PP) analyses were conducted for the main outcome.
135 patients (1-day LRD group=67, 3-day LRD=68) were included. The rate of adequate cleansing quality was not significantly different between the groups in the ITT analysis 76.1%, 95% CI [64.6-84.8] vs. 79.4%, 95% CI [68.2-87.4]; odds ratio (OR) 1.2, 95% CI [0.54-2.73]) or in the PP analysis 77.3%, 95% CI [65.7-85.8] vs. 80.3%, 95% CI [69.0-88.3]; OR 1.2, 95% CI [0.52-2.77]). Compliance with the diet or cleansing solution, satisfaction or difficulties with the LRD and the polyp/adenoma detection rates were not significantly different.

Musculoskeletal pain is common in the general population and constitutes a major public health problem. A large proportion of these conditions may be work related. The aim of this study was to explore the relative importance of physical, psychosocial and personal factors, in number of pain sites and in five specific pain sites, among women in common professions with a broad variety of occupational exposures.
A cohort of 1115 women responded to a questionnaire on ergonomic, psychosocial, personal and life-style factors, and the outcome measure of musculoskeletal pain (based on frequency and intensity of complaints at nine anatomical sites), at baseline and at follow-up. Sum scores of ergonomic and psychosocial factors were created. The importance of exposure at baseline for the number of pain sites at follow-up were estimated using ordinal regression. The importance of exposure at baseline for pain in the neck, shoulders, hands, lower **** and feet at follow-up were estimated using multi-exposure Poisson res and of specific pain sites. In this work, a doxorubicin (DOX) delivery carrier and imaging probe for liver cancer-targeted therapy was designed based on CDs with high fluorescence quantum yield (97%), aiming to enhance the antitumor activity and imaging efficiency. Folic acid (FA), which showed high expression in hepatoma cells, was used as targeting components to modify CDs (FA-CDs), and then FA-CDs-DOX was obtained by loading DOX. Results show that CDs and FA-CDs have good biocompatibility, and the DOX release from FA-CDs-DOX is targeted and selective. Confocal microscope demonstrates that FA-CDs-DOX has excellent ability of fluorescence imaging in liver cancer cells. The imaging in vivo shows the fluorescence intensity of FA-CDs-DOX is strong enough to penetrate tumor tissue and skin, further verifying its enhanced-fluorescent imaging effects. Tumor inhibition in vivo indicates that the targeting ability of FA-CDs-DOX is significantly higher than that of free DOX, showing obvious better therapeutic effect. The adhesion of the coatings to the substrate was evaluated by micro scratch test. The in vitro biological response was evaluated in terms of cytotoxicity, adhesion and differentiation of mouse mesenchymal stem cells, as well as adhesion and bacterial viability of Staphylococcus aureus strain. Through the compositional study carried out, the deposition of the HA phase was verified, with a Ca/P ratio close to 1.67 and the characteristic diffraction peaks of this compound. The structural study of the coatings evidenced the obtention of multi-layer architectures. The use of an intermediate SiO2/TiN/Ti trilayer was found to improve adhesion between HA-Ag and the substrate by 84%. Finally, the in vitro biological tests carried out indicated a potentially non-toxic character in the coatings. Moreover, zeta potential, FTIR, and XPS measurements confirmed the existence of citric acid in the CA@PtNi hNS. During synthesis, the use of citric acid not only facilitates monodispersity but also provides a negative surface charge (-11 mV) to the CA@PtNi hNS that electrostatically attracts the 3,3',5,5'-Tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) substrate. As-prepared CA@PtNi hNS possessed excellent peroxidase-like activity due to rich Pt surfaces, large surface area, and heterogeneous interaction between Pt and Ni atoms. Notably, the ionic pairings of PEI segments with ZA molecules not only assisted encapsulation of ZA into the PLGA-rich core of hybrid nanoparticles but also reduced adhesion of ZA on the surfaces of hydrophobicsis and displayed a superior cytotoxic effect to free ZA. The antinuclear antibody (ANA) test is a screening test for systemic autoimmune rheumatic disease (SARD). We hypothesised that the presence of anti-DFS70 in ANA-positive samples was associated with a false-positive ANA test and negatively associated with SARD.
A retrospective analysis of patient samples received for ANA testing from 1 January 2016 to 30 June 2016 was performed. Patient samples underwent ANA testing via indirect immunofluorescence method and anti-DFS70 testing using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.
Among a total of 645 ANA-positive samples, the majority (41.7%) was positive at a titre of 180. The commonest nuclear staining pattern was speckled (65.5%). Only 9.5% of ANA-positive patients were diagnosed with SARD. Anti-DFS70 was found to be present in 10.0% of ANA-positive patients. The majority (51/59 patients, 86.4%) of patients did not have SARD. Seven patients had positive ANA titre > 1640, presence of anti-double stranded DNA and/or anti-Ro60. In this correspondence, I intend to show that some of his concerns, particularly those about the insula and cingulate cortex, can be addressed with additional evidence from recent neuroimaging research. Indirect imaging problems in biomedical optics generally require repeated evaluation of forward models of radiative transport, for which Monte Carlo is accurate yet computationally costly. We develop an approach to reduce this bottleneck, which has significant implications for quantitative tomographic imaging in a variety of medical and industrial applications.
Our aim is to enable computationally efficient image reconstruction in (hybrid) diffuse optical modalities using stochastic forward models.
Using Monte Carlo, we compute a fully stochastic gradient of an objective function for a given imaging problem. Leveraging techniques from the machine learning community, we then adaptively control the accuracy of this gradient throughout the iterative inversion scheme to substantially reduce computational resources at each step.
For example problems of quantitative photoacoustic tomography and ultrasound-modulated optical tomography, we demonstrate that solutions are attainable using a total computational expense that is comparable to (or less than) that which is required for a single high-accuracy forward run of the same Monte Carlo model.
The antinuclear antibody (ANA) test is a screening test for systemic autoimmune rheumatic disease (SARD). We hypothesised that the presence of anti-DFS70 in ANA-positive samples was associated with a false-positive ANA test and negatively associated with SARD. A retrospective analysis of patient samples received for ANA testing from 1 January 2016 to 30 June 2016 was performed. Patient samples underwent ANA testing via indirect immunofluorescence method and anti-DFS70 testing using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Among a total of 645 ANA-positive samples, the majority (41.7%) was positive at a titre of 180. The commonest nuclear staining pattern was speckled (65.5%). Only 9.5% of ANA-positive patients were diagnosed with SARD. Anti-DFS70 was found to be present in 10.0% of ANA-positive patients. The majority (51/59 patients, 86.4%) of patients did not have SARD. Seven patients had positive ANA titre > 1640, presence of anti-double stranded DNA and/or anti-Ro60. TSC1 modulates self-renewal and differentiation in hematopoietic stem cells; however, its effects on mesenchymal stem cells (****) are unknown. We investigated the impact of Tsc1 inactivation in murine bone marrow (BM)-****, using tissue-specific, transgelin (Tagln)-mediated cre-recombination, targeting both BM-**** and smooth muscle cells. Tsc1 mutants were viable, but homozygous inactivation led to a dwarfed appearance with TSC-like pathologies in multiple organs and reduced survival. In young (28 day old) ****, Tsc1 deficiency-induced significant cell expansion of non-hematopoietic BM in vivo, and ****colony-forming potential in vitro, that was normalized upon treatment with the mTOR inhibitor, everolimus. Fifty-eight subjects with chronic neck pain and upper cervical spine dysfunction were recruited (29 = Manual therapy + Exercise; 29 = Exercise). Each group received four 20-min sessions, one per week during four consecutive weeks, and a home exercise regime. Upper flexion and flexion-rotation test range of motion, neck disability index, craniocervical flexion test, visual analogue scale, pressure pain threshold, global rating of change scale, and adherence to self-treatment were assessed at the beginning, end of the intervention and at 3- and 6-month follow-ups. The Manual therapy + Exercise group statistically improved short- and medium-term in all variables compared to the Exercise group. PRF developed in 389 (37.7%) patients in 72 h after rewarming within 24 h in 150 (38.6%), in 24-48 h in 155 (39.8%), and in 48-72 h in 84 (21.6%). PRF was associated with improved neurologic outcomes (odds ratio (OR), 0.633; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.416-0.963). PRF within 24 h (OR, 0.355; 95% CI, 0.191-0.659), but not in 24-48 h or 48-72 h, was associated with unfavorable neurologic outcomes. With the increase of frequency, the feature sizes of α (the transition angle of the upper surface of Fe-36Ni to the surface of the weld bead) and R (shortest distance between weld root and weld surface) exhibited downtrend and uptrend, respectively, while La (the maximum weld width of lower sheet) and P (the maximum weld penetration of lower sheet) changed in a smaller range. Fusion zone (FZ) is mainly composed of γ phase and M23C6 during solidification, and M23C6 particles are distributed on the grain boundaries of the cells, which reduced the mechanical properties of joint. The average hardness between 110 HV1 and 136 HV1 is lower than that of the base metals. Fractures of all joints located at the Fe-36Ni side near the weld, and a dimple fracture in all samples indicated a ductile fracture. This study found that the heat input values remain 198.86 J mm-1 and increased pulse frequency can improve the maximum tensile force. The average maximum tensile force of the lap weld is 11.95 kN when pulsed frequency is 15 Hz.

Knockdown of RP11-480I12.5 markedly suppressed cell proliferation and colony formation, induced cell apoptosis of breast cancer in vitro, and inhibited tumor growth in vivo. Four transcripts of RP11-480I12.5 (001/002/003/004) were identified. Only overexpression of RP11-480I12.5-004 significantly enhanced cell growth of breast cancer both in vitro and in vivo. RP11-480I12.5-004 mainly located in cytoplasm and increased AKT3 and CDK6 mRNA expression, at least in part, by competitively binding to miR-29c-3p. Six parental genes of RP11-480I12.5 were found, among which TUBA1B and TUBA1C were statistically linked to RP11-480I12.5 expression, possessed prognostic values, and were upregulated in breast cancer. Our findings suggested that pseudogene-derived long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) RP11-480I12.5-004 promoted growth and tumorigenesis of breast cancer via increasing AKT3 and CDK6 expression by competitively binding to miR-29c-3p.Increasing evidence indicates that lymphocyte cytosolic protein 1 (LCP1) overexpression contributes to tumor progression; however, its role in osteosarcoma (OS) remains unclear. We aimed to investigate the potential effect of LCP1 in OS and the underlying mechanisms. We first demonstrated that LCP1 is upregulated in OS cell lines and tissues. Then, we found that aberrant expression of LCP1 could induce the proliferation and metastasis of OS cells in vitro and in vivo by destabilizing neuregulin receptor degradation protein-1 (Nrdp1) and subsequently activating the JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway. When coculturing OS cells with bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) in vitro, we validated that oncogenic LCP1 in OS was transferred from BMSCs via exosomes. Moreover, microRNA (miR)-135a-5p, a tumor suppressor, was found to interact upstream of LCP1 to counteract the pro-tumorigenesis effects of LCP1 in OS. Targeting the miR-135a-5p/LCP1 axis may have potential in treating OS.In the study, we present a quick potassium hydroxide heat treatment approach to optimize the "melon" framework of graphite carbon nitride and modify the surface properties by functionalization of hydroxyl groups. The hydroxyl groups functionalized g-CN samples have been applied as bifunctional materials for efficient elimination of diquat dibromide herbicide through synergistic adsorption/photodegradation processes. The structural characterizations of the as-obtained samples, combined with the detailed diquat dibromide herbicide adsorption study, reveal that the surface hydroxyl groups are the active sites for the diquat dibromide adsorption, which account for the **** enhanced saturation adsorption capacities of 159.3 mg g-1 at 25 °C and pH = 7 (more than 110 times improvement compared with pristine carbon nitride). Furthermore, the grafted surface hydroxyl groups and optimized planar structures endow the functionalized samples with the advantageous properties of efficient photoinduced charge transfer and separation, low interface resistance, and high photoresponse. Consequently, the deep mineralization of diquat dibromide herbicide was achieved over the bifunctional materials (total removal ratios were ~ 97.1% after 240 min visible-light irradiation). The oxidation rate of RhB in the nZVI/O2/hv system was 91.2% after 40 min under the illumination and oxygen conditions and pH of 3, but when cysteine was introduced into the system, the oxidization process was inhibited. Knockdown of RP11-480I12.5 markedly suppressed cell proliferation and colony formation, induced cell apoptosis of breast cancer in vitro, and inhibited tumor growth in vivo. Four transcripts of RP11-480I12.5 (001/002/003/004) were identified. Only overexpression of RP11-480I12.5-004 significantly enhanced cell growth of breast cancer both in vitro and in vivo. RP11-480I12.5-004 mainly located in cytoplasm and increased AKT3 and CDK6 mRNA expression, at least in part, by competitively binding to miR-29c-3p. Six parental genes of RP11-480I12.5 were found, among which TUBA1B and TUBA1C were statistically linked to RP11-480I12.5 expression, possessed prognostic values, and were upregulated in breast cancer. We aimed to investigate the potential effect of LCP1 in OS and the underlying mechanisms. We first demonstrated that LCP1 is upregulated in OS cell lines and tissues. Then, we found that aberrant expression of LCP1 could induce the proliferation and metastasis of OS cells in vitro and in vivo by destabilizing neuregulin receptor degradation protein-1 (Nrdp1) and subsequently activating the JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathway. When coculturing OS cells with bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) in vitro, we validated that oncogenic LCP1 in OS was transferred from BMSCs via exosomes. The structural characterizations of the as-obtained samples, combined with the detailed diquat dibromide herbicide adsorption study, reveal that the surface hydroxyl groups are the active sites for the diquat dibromide adsorption, which account for the much enhanced saturation adsorption capacities of 159.3 mg g-1 at 25 °C and pH = 7 (more than 110 times improvement compared with pristine carbon nitride). Furthermore, the grafted surface hydroxyl groups and optimized planar structures endow the functionalized samples with the advantageous properties of efficient photoinduced charge transfer and separation, low interface resistance, and high photoresponse. Consequently, the deep mineralization of diquat dibromide herbicide was achieved over the bifunctional materials (total removal ratios were ~ 97.1% after 240 min visible-light irradiation). The tested molecules 3 and 7 exhibited the best results on MCF-7 cells, with mean IC50 values of 3.26 and 4.31 µM, respectively. The results of the VEGFR-2 assay indicated that compounds 3 and 7 displayed a good inhibition of the VEGFR-2 kinase enzyme. Additionally, DNA flow cytometry of compounds 3 and 7 showed cell cycle arrest at the G0/G1 phase, cell apoptosis, and marked DNA fragmentation in MCF-7 cells. Results indicate a preference for products perceived as sweet rather than salty/savoury and for products perceived as familiar, as well as a sensitivity to product odours. Women expressed a willingness and intention to use the products even if they did not like them, because of the health benefits for their babies. Data also indicate that household food sharing practices may impact supplement use, although most women denied any intention to share the products. Sharing behaviour should therefore be monitored, and strategies to avoid sharing should be developed during the succeeding parts of the research.

Articles published until November 2019 were searched based on the following databases PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, Medline, and Google Scholar. We computed the following results [rates of AKI incidence after a stroke, odds ratios (ORs) or relative risks (RRs) estimates and the 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the association between risk factors and AKI, ORs or RRs and the CIs for the association between AKI and outcomes after a stroke] by using STATA 13.0 software.
The study reported an overall incidence of AKI of 12% with a random-effects model. Additionally, the present study showed that higher National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score on admission and history of hypertension were associated with higher risk of AKI after stroke. Moreover, the study showed that AKI after stroke was associated with higher in-hospital mortality, higher 1-month mortality, higher long-term mortality, and poorer functional outcome.

A two-stage hypothesis-driven CBP approach has been carried out on the internal and external GP. Dice coefficient between functionally homologous pairs of pallidal maps has been computed. In addition, reproducibility of parcellation according to different pathways of interest has been investigated, as well as spatial relations between connectivity maps and existing optimal stimulation points for dystonic patients.

By investigating the resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) of each PFC subregion from the Brainnetome atlas in 40 schizophrenia patients and 40 healthy subjects, we found 24 altered connections in schizophrenia, and the connections were divided into four categories by a clustering analysis increased connections within the PFC, increased connections between the inferior PFC and the thalamus/striatum, reduced connections between the PFC and the motor control areas, and reduced connections between the orbital PFC and the emotional perception regions. In addition, the four categories of rsFC showed distinct cognitive engagement patterns. The glutamatergic transmission was characterized by electrophysiological recordings, ultrastructure of neuron terminals, and determination of proteins related to glutamate synaptic transmission synaptophysin, synaptotagmin, and vit1A. The space-restricted ∼51,5% reduction of SN1 protein did not affect the expression of the neuronal glutamine transporter SAT2. SN1 depletion resulted in a reduction of field potentials (FPs), unaltered frequency of spontaneous and miniature excitatory postsynaptic currents (sEPSCs/mEPSCs), and presented a tendency towards a decrease of long-term potentiation (LTP). Ultrastructurally, preserved number of synaptic vesicles, primarily localized centrally of the cell body, correlates with unchanged levels of synaptic proteins. These **** (NaV1.8-ChR2+) enabled us to selectively target and record electrophysiological activity from these neurons (the majority of which are nociceptive) using blue light stimulation of the hind paw. We assessed the effect of **/OMI on nociceptor activity in both naïve **** and **** treated with complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA) to induce chronic inflammation of the hind paw. Teased fiber recording of tibial nerve fibers innervating the plantar hind paw revealed that the **/OMI combination reduced responses to light stimulation in naïve **** and attenuated spontaneous activity (SA) as well as responses to light and mechanical stimuli in CFA-treated ****. These results show that **/OMI reduces activity of C-fiber nociceptors that express NaV1.8 and corroborate recent behavioral studies demonstrating the potent analgesic effects of this drug combination. Because of its peripheral site of action, **/OMI might produce effective analgesia without the side effects associated with activation of opioid receptors in the central nervous system.
The relationship between coronary slow flow (CSF) and coronary sinus (CS) reflux has not been previously studied. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between CSF and CS reflux and Thebesian valve presence as well as the relationship between CS reflux and serum annexin-V and ICAM-1 levels.
In this case-control study, patients were divided into two groups CSF (n = 13) and control (n = 7) groups. CS flow parameters and Thebesian valve presence were evaluated by cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR). Moreover, serum ICAM-1 and annexin-V levels were measured.
Regurgitation volume and regurgitation fraction, indicators of reflux flow in CS, were higher in the CSF group than in the control group (p = 0.039 and p = 0.019). Fewer Thebesian valves were observed in the CSF group than in the control group (p = 0.022). Furthermore, a positive correlation was found between regurgitation volume and regurgitation fraction and serum annexin-V and ICAM-1 levels (r = 0.813, p < 0.001 and r = 0.996, p < 0.001; r = 0.817, p < 0.001 and r = 0.993, p < 0.001, respectively).

In addition, the four categories of rsFC showed distinct cognitive engagement patterns. The glutamatergic transmission was characterized by electrophysiological recordings, ultrastructure of neuron terminals, and determination of proteins related to glutamate synaptic transmission synaptophysin, synaptotagmin, and vit1A. The space-restricted ∼51,5% reduction of SN1 protein did not affect the expression of the neuronal glutamine transporter SAT2. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between CSF and CS reflux and Thebesian valve presence as well as the relationship between CS reflux and serum annexin-V and ICAM-1 levels. In this case-control study, patients were divided into two groups CSF (n = 13) and control (n = 7) groups. CS flow parameters and Thebesian valve presence were evaluated by cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR). Moreover, serum ICAM-1 and annexin-V levels were measured. Regurgitation volume and regurgitation fraction, indicators of reflux flow in CS, were higher in the CSF group than in the control group (p = 0.039 and p = 0.019). Fewer Thebesian valves were observed in the CSF group than in the control group (p = 0.022). However, zinc concentration (Zn), being the only dependent variable that had two categorical outcomes, was the contaminant utilized for the study. Similarly, only five (5) independent (predictive) variables, which are percent clay in soil, drainage, slope, unsaturated zone thickness, and total longitudinal conductance, were established to have good correlation and statistically significant with the dependent variable, the contaminant, and thus utilized in logistic regression model development. The quantitative assessment of the developed model established that the overall model prediction accuracy was 85.7% suggesting that the model had a very good fit. The probability prediction model was also accurate and reliable with percentage reliability established to be 90%. In conclusion, it is evident from the results obtained from the study that since the model developed was assessed to be accurate and reliable, the model, and hence the technique, can be replicated in another area of similar geologic condition.Melatonin (MEL) is an antioxidant molecule, present throughout plant kingdom, animals, and microbes. Five different doses (10, 20, 30, 40, or 50 μM) of MEL were applied as foliar spray to the leaf of plant at 25 days after sowing (DAS) and continued up to 30 DAS once in a day. The plants were sampled at 30, 45, and 60 DAS to assess various parameters. The present results indicate that most of the parameters, i.e., growth, photosynthetic, nutrients, and enzyme activities increased in a concentration dependent manner. MEL application reduced the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by enhancing the antioxidant enzyme activities. Microscopic examinations further revealed a significant increase in the size of the stomatal aperture in the presence of MEL. Here, we characterize more than 30 approved kinase inhibitors in terms of their antiviral potential, due to their measured potency against key kinases required for viral entry, metabolism, or reproduction. We also highlight inhibitors with potential to reverse pulmonary insufficiency because of their anti-inflammatory activity, cytokine suppression, or antifibrotic activity. Certain agents are projected to be dual-purpose drugs in terms of antiviral activity and alleviation of disease symptoms, however drug combination is also an option for inhibitors with optimal pharmacokinetic properties that allow safe and efficacious co-administration with other drugs, such as antiviral agents, IL-6 blocking agents, or other kinase inhibitors.

Papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) is a kind of thyroid cancer. Previous studies showed that insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF1) plays an important role in tumorigenesis, development, invasion, and metastasis. However, the function of IGF1 in PTC progression remains unclear.
Seventy-three pairs of PTC tissue specimens and adjacent normal specimens form and normal cell line and PTC cell lines were collected in this study. The immunohistochemistry (IHC) assay was performed to test the expression of IGF1. The RNA isolation and quantitative real-time PCR assays (qRT-PCR assays) and Western blot analysis were used to test mRNA and protein expression. Cell proliferation assay, EdU assay, flow cytometry assay, wound healing assay, and Transwell invasion assay were performed to test cell proliferation, invasion, and apoptosis.
We found that the expression of IGF1 in PTC tissue samples was higher than that in adjacent normal specimens and was significantly associated with tumor size, TNM staging, and lymph node metastasis. This article introduces the methodology of modeling DNA damage induced by a shock wave caused by a projectile ion. Specifically it is demonstrated how single- and double strand breaks in a DNA molecule could be described by the reactive CHARMM (rCHARMM) force field implemented in the program MBN Explorer. The entire workflow of performing the shock wave simulations, including obtaining the crucial simulation parameters, is described in seven steps. Two exemplary analyses are provided for a case study simulation serving to (a) quantify the shock wave propagation and (b) describe the dynamics of formation of DNA breaks. The article concludes by discussing the computational cost of the simulations and revealing the possible maximal computational time for different simulation set-ups.
The use of antibiotic prophylaxis for soft tissue sarcoma resection varies widely while little evidence on this topic exists. The aim of this study was to determine the impact of antibiotic prophylaxis on the occurrence of wound infections.
A single institutional retrospective cohort study was performed on patients who underwent truncal or extremity soft tissue sarcoma resection. The use of antibiotic prophylaxis was assessed and univariate and multivariate analysis of predictors of wound infections was performed.
Nine hundred and fifty-eight patients could be included. Thirty-two percent of patients had no antibiotic prophylaxis, 44% of patients received single-shot prophylaxis, and 24% of patients received single-shot plus continued antibiotic treatment. Wound infections occurred in 140 patients (15%). Independent risk factors for wound infections upon multivariate analysis were obesity, high American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) status, high tumor size and grade, operation time over 120 minutes, and other complications. Antibiotic prophylaxis could not be identified as a protective factor in univariate or multivariate analysis.

Recognition for medical inventions and innovations is largely associated with physician-researchers, scientists, and engineers. The term "nurse" is largely absent from patents awarded in the United States. Yet, as front-line healthcare providers, who better to add to the current population of inventors and innovators of new, meaningful scientific and engineering medical discoveries than specialized advanced practice nurses and their registered nurse colleagues? Although medical inventions and innovations are not entirely new activities for nurses, the authors speculate that greater opportunities exist for these healthcare professionals to lead in and be officially recognized for medical care discoveries and advancements by having their names on patents awarded. Also, we surmise that without the active and dedicated participation of nurses, important and significant discoveries may be missed.
The purpose of this paper is to address the importance of having nurses at all levels and specialties engaged in hengagement in inventions and innovations define a new practice space and contribution for nurses.Vulnerabilities in workers performing electronics recycling (e-recycling) in the informal sector worldwide have been well documented. However, the growing e-recycling industry in the formal sector still brings many challenges to protect the health of workers and their environment. This commentary aims to draw attention to the overlooked vulnerabilities faced by the workers of the e-recycling industry formal sector in high-income countries and discuss the potential impact on health inequalities experienced by these workers. Expanding the definition of vulnerability, not limited to the biological susceptibility to chemical and physical exposures, the demographic characteristics of workers in the e-recycling formal sector often reveal social groups known to be disadvantaged regarding occupational exposures and health effects, including young workers, immigrant or ethnic minorities, and workers with mental or physical health issues or disabilities. Overlapping structural vulnerabilities of the e-recycling industry stem from its newness, its working conditions, its conditions of employment, and the sociodemographic characteristics of its workforce.

Although more studies on this subject are needed, our data do not support the general use of antibiotic prophylaxis for soft tissue sarcoma resection. Recognition for medical inventions and innovations is largely associated with physician-researchers, scientists, and engineers. The term "nurse" is largely absent from patents awarded in the United States. Yet, as front-line healthcare providers, who better to add to the current population of inventors and innovators of new, meaningful scientific and engineering medical discoveries than specialized advanced practice nurses and their registered nurse colleagues? Although medical inventions and innovations are not entirely new activities for nurses, the authors speculate that greater opportunities exist for these healthcare professionals to lead in and be officially recognized for medical care discoveries and advancements by having their names on patents awarded. Also, we surmise that without the active and dedicated participation of nurses, important and significant discoveries may be missed. The purpose of this paper is to address the importance of having nurses at all levels and specialties engaged in hengagement in inventions and innovations define a new practice space and contribution for nurses.Vulnerabilities in workers performing electronics recycling (e-recycling) in the informal sector worldwide have been well documented. However, the growing e-recycling industry in the formal sector still brings many challenges to protect the health of workers and their environment. This commentary aims to draw attention to the overlooked vulnerabilities faced by the workers of the e-recycling industry formal sector in high-income countries and discuss the potential impact on health inequalities experienced by these workers. Expanding the definition of vulnerability, not limited to the biological susceptibility to chemical and physical exposures, the demographic characteristics of workers in the e-recycling formal sector often reveal social groups known to be disadvantaged regarding occupational exposures and health effects, including young workers, immigrant or ethnic minorities, and workers with mental or physical health issues or disabilities.
