It was shown that this triple-optimized PRP + CPC construct possessed increased biomechanical properties and suitable biochemical signals. The following in vitro study demonstrated that the triple-optimized PRP + CPC constructs generated cartilage-like tissue with higher expression levels of chondrogenic-specific markers, more deposition of cartilage-specific extracellular matrix (ECM), and greater biomechanical values than those of the other constructs. Twelve weeks after the construct was implanted in a cartilage defect in vivo, histological analysis, qPCR, and biomechanical tests collectively showed that the triple-optimized constructs yielded a more chondrocyte-like cell phenotype with a higher synthesis of Col-II and aggrecan. More importantly, the triple-optimized constructs facilitated cartilage regeneration with better biomechanical recovery than that of the other constructs. These results demonstrate the efficacy of the triple-optimization strategy and highlight the simplicity and potency of this PRP + CPC construct for cartilage regeneration.

This study also compared the MT and MA of the paralyzed vocal fold with that of the normal side and analyzed their correlations.

    This is a cross-sectional study in which 77 patients (18 males, 59 females, mean age of 48) with unilateral VFP with an opposite normal mobile vocal fold underwent LEMG with a standardized protocol. Koufman gradings and MT and MA were used for the qualitative and quantitative evaluations. Mann-Whitney U test was performed to compare the median of the turns and amplitudes between the opposite normal mobile vocal fold and the paralyzed side. A linear-scale graphical "cloud" of the normal TA-LCA muscle complex was gealed that only certain pairs of Koufman grading were statistical significant.

Studies in other modalities (smartphone app, one trial; computer-based interventions, two trials) did not confer statistically significant reductions in MA use, though were likely impacted by app design and participant characteristics. Preliminary findings hint at the potential effectiveness of telephone counselling in aftercare and the capacity for text-messaging to reach those who are not in treatment.   • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the time to medication administration, clinical effect, and safety of a recent Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee-approved change in the administration of levetiracetam from intravenous piggyback (IVPB) over 15min to undiluted intravenous push (IVP) over 2-5min at a large academic medical center.

    The primary outcome was the time from order verification to the administration of IVP levetiracetam versus IVPB levetiracetam. The secondary outcome was any benzodiazepine administered in the time between levetiracetam order verification and administration in both groups. Adult patients admitted to the neuro-spine intensive care unit in the 6months prior to and after the policy change, and who received at least one dose of 1000mg or higher of IVP or IVPB levetiracetam for active seizures, were included in this retrospective, observational, institutional review board-approved study.     Therefore, the current systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to comprehensively assess the impact of chromium supplementation on BP.

    Five online databases including Web of Science, Scopus, Embase, Google Scholar, and PubMed were systematically searched from inception to March 2020. We included all randomized clinical trials (RCTs) evaluating the effects of chromium supplementation on systolic blood pressure (SBP) and/or diastolic blood pressure (DBP) in humans.

    The random-effects meta-analysis of 11 eligible RCTs with 637 participants demonstrated the significant decline in both SBP (WMD - 2.51 mmHg; 95% CI - 4.97 to - 0.05, p = 0.04) and DBP (WMD - 1.04 mmHg; 95% CI - 1.96 to - 0.12, p = 0.026) following supplementation with chromium. In subgroup analysis, studies that were administered chromium yeast and brewer's yeast, showed greater decrease in SBP. Also, in stratification based on participants' health status, significant reduction in SBP only was seen in diabetic patients with chronic heart disease (CHD). Nonlinear dose-response analysis revealed a significant influence of chromium dosage on SBP changes.

In this study, we investigated the effects of UFL1 in milk protein and fat synthesis-related gene expression, with a particular emphasis on the role of UFL1 in LPS-treated BMECs. Results showed that UFL1 depletion significantly reduced the expression of milk protein and fat synthesis-related gene and mTOR phosphorylation in both normal and LPS-treated BMECs. Overexpression of UFL1 enhanced the activation of the mTOR and milk protein and fat synthesis-related gene expression. Collectively, these above results strongly demonstrate that UFL1 could regulate milk protein and fat synthesis-related gene expression of BMECs probably via the mTOR signaling pathway.
    Stage IV rectal cancer with resectable disease presents challenging issues, as the radical treatment of the whole disease is difficult. Surgery and chemotherapy (CT) play an unquestionable role, but the contribution of pelvic radiotherapy (RT) is not very clear.

    In 2009, we established a prospective treatment protocol that included CT, short-course preoperative radiotherapy (SCRT) with surgery of the primary tumour and all metastatic locations.

    Forty patients were included. Eight (20%) patients did not receive CT due to significant comorbidities. Radical surgery treatment was possible in 22 (55%) patients. The mean follow-up was 42.81months (3.63-105.97). Overall survival at 24 and 36months was 71.4% and 58.2%, respectively. There was good local control of the disease, as 97.2% of pelvic surgeries were R0 and there were no local recurrences.

    In stage IV with resectable metastatic disease, the proposed therapeutic regimen seems very appropriate in well selected patients able to tolerate the treatment. We bet on the role of pelvic RT, due to the good local control of the disease in our series.

    The purpose of this study was to evaluate the time to medication administration, clinical effect, and safety of a recent Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee-approved change in the administration of levetiracetam from intravenous piggyback (IVPB) over 15min to undiluted intravenous push (IVP) over 2-5min at a large academic medical center. The primary outcome was the time from order verification to the administration of IVP levetiracetam versus IVPB levetiracetam. The secondary outcome was any benzodiazepine administered in the time between levetiracetam order verification and administration in both groups. Adult patients admitted to the neuro-spine intensive care unit in the 6months prior to and after the policy change, and who received at least one dose of 1000mg or higher of IVP or IVPB levetiracetam for active seizures, were included in this retrospective, observational, institutional review board-approved study. We included all randomized clinical trials (RCTs) evaluating the effects of chromium supplementation on systolic blood pressure (SBP) and/or diastolic blood pressure (DBP) in humans. The random-effects meta-analysis of 11 eligible RCTs with 637 participants demonstrated the significant decline in both SBP (WMD - 2.51 mmHg; 95% CI - 4.97 to - 0.05, p = 0.04) and DBP (WMD - 1.04 mmHg; 95% CI - 1.96 to - 0.12, p = 0.026) following supplementation with chromium.   • The glyoxalase pathway is a check point to monitor the elevation of methylglyoxal (MG) level in plants and is mediated by glyoxalase I (Gly I) and glyoxalase II (Gly II) enzymes in the presence of glutathione. Recent studies established the presence of unique DJ-1/PfpI domain containing protein named glyoxalase III (Gly III) in prokaryotes, involved in the detoxification of MG into D-lactic acid through a single step process. In the present study, eleven transgenic sugarcane events overexpressing EaGly III were assessed for salinity stress (100 mM and 200 mM NaCl) tolerance. Lipid peroxidation as well as cell membrane injury remained very minimal in all the transgenic events indicating reduced oxidative damage. Transgenic events exhibited significantly higher plant water status, gas exchange parameters, chlorophyll, carotenoid, and proline content, total soluble sugars, *** and POD activity compared to wild type (WT) under salinity stress. Histological studies by taking the cross section showed a highly stable root system in transgenic events upon exposure to salinity stress. Thus, this research was undertaken to study level and pattern of site-specific cytosine methylation of ITS1, 5.8S and ITS2 in nine tissues and/or developmental stage of pepper Capsicum annuum L. cultivar Demre Sivrisi. Tissues studied consisted of young and old roots at 30 and 90 days after sowing (das), mature dry seeds and seeds at 26 days of post anthesis (dpa), flowering buds at 1 day before flowering, pericarps at 3, 15 and 65 dpa. Levels and patterns of DNA cytosine methylation were identified at single base resolution using bisulfite conversion sequencing. Results of this study revealed that DNA cytosine level and pattern of ITS1, 5.8S and ITS2 were different in most tissues and/or developmental stages studied. In addition, methylation levels of CG, CHG and CHH contexts were also significantly different among the regions. Based on the findings of this study, it was concluded that high level of methylation of nrDNA sequences was relatively higher as observed in transposable element and promoter. On the other hand, its tissue-specific gene expression was effective as that of gene body and promoter methylation. Overall findings revealed that methylation levels of nrDNA could be used as biomarkers for tissue identification or age estimation in plants.
    We aim to summarize the current state of art about the possible use of biomarkers for predicting renal cell carcinoma (RCC) recurrence after curative treatment. In addition, we aim to provide a snapshot about the clinical implication of biomarkers use for follow-up planification.

A variety of molecules, including proteins, DNA, and RNA, warrant a good accuracy for RCC recurrence and progression prediction.     The glyoxalase pathway is a check point to monitor the elevation of methylglyoxal (MG) level in plants and is mediated by glyoxalase I (Gly I) and glyoxalase II (Gly II) enzymes in the presence of glutathione. Recent studies established the presence of unique DJ-1/PfpI domain containing protein named glyoxalase III (Gly III) in prokaryotes, involved in the detoxification of MG into D-lactic acid through a single step process. In the present study, eleven transgenic sugarcane events overexpressing EaGly III were assessed for salinity stress (100 mM and 200 mM NaCl) tolerance. Lipid peroxidation as well as cell membrane injury remained very minimal in all the transgenic events indicating reduced oxidative damage. Transgenic events exhibited significantly higher plant water status, gas exchange parameters, chlorophyll, carotenoid, and proline content, total soluble sugars, SOD and POD activity compared to wild type (WT) under salinity stress. Histological studies by taking the cross section showed a highly stable root system in transgenic events upon exposure to salinity stress. Thus, this research was undertaken to study level and pattern of site-specific cytosine methylation of ITS1, 5.8S and ITS2 in nine tissues and/or developmental stage of pepper Capsicum annuum L. cultivar Demre Sivrisi. Tissues studied consisted of young and old roots at 30 and 90 days after sowing (das), mature dry seeds and seeds at 26 days of post anthesis (dpa), flowering buds at 1 day before flowering, pericarps at 3, 15 and 65 dpa. Levels and patterns of DNA cytosine methylation were identified at single base resolution using bisulfite conversion sequencing. Results of this study revealed that DNA cytosine level and pattern of ITS1, 5.8S and ITS2 were different in most tissues and/or developmental stages studied. Here, we report the unusual presentation of 2-year-old boy with symptomatic cystic lesion at floor of month combined with ankyloglossia. The operation was performed under general anesthesia. Frenotomy was performed. Complete cystic removal was successful with minimal leakage of cyst wall. Sclerosing agent was injected at surgical site to prevent the residual undetected cystic malformation. Pathological examination was demonstrated a unicystic lesion lined by ciliated pseudostratified columnar and cuboidal cells. The final diagnosis was bronchogenic cyst. The endoscopy revealed an ulcerated lesion involving the second and third portions of the duodenum. Histopathologic examination confirmed a poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma of endometrial origin. She started palliative chemotherapy, remaining with adequate symptomatic control. Endometrial cancer recurrence typically occurs locally. The liver is the intra-abdominal organ most commonly involved. There are scarce reports of duodenal metastasis of malignancies originated in distant organs. The duodenum remains an uncommon metastization site and is rarely associated with endometrial cancer.Hiatal herniations are most commonly diagnosed during work-up for gastroesophageal reflux disease. Here, we present a patient with retrosternal pain for whom the computed tomography scan showed a lipomatous formation in the lower posterior mediastinum, and further examination indicated the origin to be paraesophageal herniation (PEH) of the greater omentum. This was confirmed by laparoscopy, the herniated part of the greater omentum was repositioned and the hiatal hernia was repaired. During recovery the patient complained of dysphagia, a common and transient postoperative occurrence, but which later proved to be a mechanical obstruction caused by a bolus. This case raises awareness of potential differential diagnoses pre- and postoperatively in conjunction with PEH, and the management of such differential diagnoses is discussed.The patient is a 50-year-old female that underwent routine screening colonoscopy during which she was found to have a neuroendocrine tumor in the right colon. The patient underwent computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging scans that demonstrated metastatic disease in segments 5 and 7 of the liver. Notably, the patient was found to have an absent left portal vein. The metastatic lesions abut the right portal vein; the right portal vein also supplies the left lobe of the liver in place of an absent left portal vein. She underwent a laparoscopic-assisted right hemicolectomy to remove the primary tumor. The patient recovered uneventfully from surgery and is currently being monitored by a multidisciplinary team regarding her metastatic disease. The approaches used were (i) single longitudinal palmar incision; (ii) double T-incision (horizontal and vertical) and (iii) double position II. Ages were between 21 and 78 years. Most affected hand was the right. Most common fracture was 23B2 (AO classification). In total, 84.6% of the patients did not present complications. According to the functional evaluation of the wrist by the Mayo Clinic, 31% showed excellent results, 42% showed good results, 27% showed fair results. The techniques had satisfactory results for the osteosynthesis with more aesthetic and less invasive approach.We describe a case of mild lower urinary tract symptoms and microscopic hematuria in a 53-year-old-male with hypertension found to have urethral stricture disease suspicious for urothelial carcinoma. During the investigation, cystoscopy and biopsy demonstrated eosinophilic amyloid proteins consistent with primary localized urethral amyloidosis. No systemic evidence of amyloidosis was demonstrated. Following a trial of conservative management with serial dilatations, the patient elected to proceed with surgical management by anterior urethroplasty using an excision and primary anastomosis technique. The patient has done well with resolution of his symptoms and no further recurrence of urethral amyloid disease at ongoing follow up.

This approach combined wet chemical and enzyme-based quantification methods (e.g. aniline blue, Glucatell®) with a cytokine secretion assay as parameter for immune activation to resolve this problem and to establish a quality control system for β-glucan containing products and extracts. Commercially available pure β-glucans with different origin and structure were used in this study. None of the methods allowed an accurate β-glucan quantification. Most promising was the test kit K-EBHLG (Megazyme). However, cytokine secretion from whole blood was detectable under the influence of β-glucans, but there was no correlation with the quantification results using the commercially available kits. Therefore, the quality control of β-glucan containing products needs further efforts.Long-chain omega-3 fatty acids such as eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acids (DHA) are health beneficial lipids found in high concentration in pelagic fishes, including Atlantic mackerel. While EPA and DHA are sensitive to oxidation during fish storage and processing, post-mortem degradation in the first hours following fish death is poorly documented. Here, we stored fish at two temperatures (2-4 °C and 18-20 °C) and monitored EPA + DHA content in dorsal fillet 6, 12 and 24 h after fish death and after cooking (grill or steam). Storage duration was the only influencing factor, and EPA + DHA loss was faster at 18-20 °C. Six hours after fish death, EPA + DHA content decreased by 1.3 ± 1.3 mg.g-1 dw (9.6 ± 9.5% of the initial content) but it was highly variable among individuals. Handling between fishing and storage should be as short and as cool as possible to preserve EPA + DHA and food safety. Fruit masses ranged from 0.47 to 1.22 g and diameters from 7.42 to 14.42 mm. For the juices, pH ranged from 2.80 to 2.96, soluble solids from 11.33% to 17.5%, total acidity from 3.17 to 4.26 g/100 mL, and viscosity from 1.28 to 273.83 mPa·s. Total anthocyanins (TA) ranged from 1.81 to 5.48 mg eq cyanidin 3-O-glucoside/100 g, total polyphenols (TP) from 7.67 to 39.70 mg eq gallic acid/100 g, total condensed tannins from 3.24 to 7.76 g eq catechin/100 g, and antioxidant capacity from 219.24 to 499.26 μmol eq Trolox/100 g. This approach combined wet chemical and enzyme-based quantification methods (e.g. aniline blue, Glucatell®) with a cytokine secretion assay as parameter for immune activation to resolve this problem and to establish a quality control system for β-glucan containing products and extracts. Commercially available pure β-glucans with different origin and structure were used in this study. None of the methods allowed an accurate β-glucan quantification. Most promising was the test kit K-EBHLG (Megazyme). However, cytokine secretion from whole blood was detectable under the influence of β-glucans, but there was no correlation with the quantification results using the commercially available kits. Here, we stored fish at two temperatures (2-4 °C and 18-20 °C) and monitored EPA + DHA content in dorsal fillet 6, 12 and 24 h after fish death and after cooking (grill or steam). Storage duration was the only influencing factor, and EPA + DHA loss was faster at 18-20 °C. Six hours after fish death, EPA + DHA content decreased by 1.3 ± 1.3 mg.g-1 dw (9.6 ± 9.5% of the initial content) but it was highly variable among individuals. Handling between fishing and storage should be as short and as cool as possible to preserve EPA + DHA and food safety. According to the accumulated knowledge, the CTR can still be used as an important parameter that can be easily determined in establishing enlargement of the heart. In the era following the development of diagnostic methods such as computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and ultrasonography, CTR modifications based on these methods are used with varying clinical usefulness.   • Sepsis is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in patients that have sustained a severe burn injury. Early detection and treatment of infections improves outcomes and understanding changes in the host microbiome following injury and during treatment may aid in burn care. The loss of functional barriers, systemic inflammation, and commensal community perturbations all contribute to a burn patient's increased risk of infection. We sampled 10 burn patients to evaluate cutaneous microbial populations on the burn wound and corresponding spared skin on days 0, 3, 7, 14, 21, and 28 post-intensive care unit admission. In addition, skin samples were paired with perianal and rectal locations to evaluate changes in the burn patient gut microbiome following injury and treatment. We found significant (P = 0.011) reduction in alpha diversity on the burn wound compared to spared skin throughout the sampling period as well as reduction in common skin commensal bacteria such as Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermitis. Compared to healthy volunteers (n = 18), the burn patient spared skin also exhibited a significant reduction in alpha diversity (P = 0.001). Treatments such as systemic or topical antibiotic administration, skin grafting, and nutritional formulations also impact diversity and community composition at the sampling locations. When evaluating each subject individually, an increase in relative abundance of taxa isolated clinically by bacterial culture could be seen in 5/9 infections detected among the burn patient cohort.Care quality has important implications for people with dementia. The prevalence of infants with PDA was 81 infants per 10,000 live births and 45.2% in very low birth weight (VLBW) infants, which increased from 2015 to 2018. PDA ligation was performed in 2571 infants and 22% VLBW infants. Medical treatment was administered to 4202 infants, which decreased significantly, especially in VLBW infants (62% to 53%). The proportion of treatment was as follows conservative treatment (53.1%), intravenous ibuprofen (24.4%), surgery (20.4%), and oral ibuprofen (10.7%); that among 4854 VLBW infants was as follows intravenous ibuprofen (46.3%), conservative treatment (33.2%), surgery (22.2%), and oral ibuprofen (14.2%). Surgical treatment had a significantly higher risk (odds ratio 1.36) of mortality than conservative treatment. Surgical and/or medical treatments were associated with a higher risk of morbidity. Recently, increased use of conservative management of PDA has contributed to improved neonatal outcomes in VLBW infants. This is because the material's microstructure hugely influences the material's properties. We demonstrate an elegant machine learning algorithm that faithfully predicts the microstructure under new conditions, without the need of knowing the governing laws. We name this algorithm, RCWGAN-GP, which is regression-based conditional generative adversarial networks with Wasserstein loss function and gradient penalty. This algorithm was trained with experimental SEM micrographs from laser-sintered alumina under various laser powers. The RCWGAN-GP realistically regenerates the SEM micrographs under the trained laser powers. Impressively, it also faithfully predicts the alumina's microstructure under unexplored laser powers. The predicted microstructure features, including the morphology of the sintered particles and the pores, match the experimental SEM micrographs very well. We further quantitatively examined the prediction accuracy of the RCWGAN-GP. We trained the algorithm with computer-created micrograph datasets of secondary-phase growth governed by the well-known Johnson-Mehl-Avrami (JMA) equation. The RCWGAN-GP accurately regenerates the micrographs at the trained time series, in terms of the grains' shapes, sizes, and spatial distributions. More importantly, the predicted secondary phase fraction accurately follows the JMA curve.

PDA ligation was performed in 2571 infants and 22% VLBW infants. Medical treatment was administered to 4202 infants, which decreased significantly, especially in VLBW infants (62% to 53%). The proportion of treatment was as follows conservative treatment (53.1%), intravenous ibuprofen (24.4%), surgery (20.4%), and oral ibuprofen (10.7%); that among 4854 VLBW infants was as follows intravenous ibuprofen (46.3%), conservative treatment (33.2%), surgery (22.2%), and oral ibuprofen (14.2%). Surgical treatment had a significantly higher risk (odds ratio 1.36) of mortality than conservative treatment. Surgical and/or medical treatments were associated with a higher risk of morbidity. Recently, increased use of conservative management of PDA has contributed to improved neonatal outcomes in VLBW infants. Select patients may still benefit from surgical ligation following careful consideration.Predicting material's microstructure under new processing conditions is essential in advanced manufacturing and materials science. This is because the material's microstructure hugely influences the material's properties. We demonstrate an elegant machine learning algorithm that faithfully predicts the microstructure under new conditions, without the need of knowing the governing laws. We name this algorithm, RCWGAN-GP, which is regression-based conditional generative adversarial networks with Wasserstein loss function and gradient penalty. This algorithm was trained with experimental SEM micrographs from laser-sintered alumina under various laser powers. The RCWGAN-GP realistically regenerates the SEM micrographs under the trained laser powers. Impressively, it also faithfully predicts the alumina's microstructure under unexplored laser powers. The predicted microstructure features, including the morphology of the sintered particles and the pores, match the experimental SEM micrographs very well. We further quantitatively examined the prediction accuracy of the RCWGAN-GP. We trained the algorithm with computer-created micrograph datasets of secondary-phase growth governed by the well-known Johnson-Mehl-Avrami (JMA) equation. The RCWGAN-GP accurately regenerates the micrographs at the trained time series, in terms of the grains' shapes, sizes, and spatial distributions. More importantly, the predicted secondary phase fraction accurately follows the JMA curve.

Airway inflammation in the obese asthma group was more severe than that of the asthma group. Airway inflammation of the OA + KRN group was reduced more than that of the A + KRN group. CD69+ NKT cells were only significantly reduced in the OA + KRN group. The levels of serum IFN-γ and TNF-α increased more in the OA + KRN group than in the A + KRN group. CaM is widely expressed in the cytoplasm of the lung tissues and was sharply decreased in the OA + KRN group. KRN7000 can significantly reduce airway inflammation in obesity-associated asthma by regulating NKT cell cytokine secretion and intracellular calcium. These results may contribute to the development of novel therapeutic approaches.

    A Tadukan-type CMS line (TAA) and a restorer line (TAR) were obtained by successive backcrossing between the Oryza sativa cultivars Tadukan (a cytoplasmic donor) and Taichung 65 (a recurrent pollen parent). Using Illumina HiSeq, we determined whole-genome sequences of the mitochondria of TAA and screened the mitochondrial genome for the presence of open reading frame (orf) genes specific to this genome. One of these orf genes, orf312, showed differential expression patterns in TAA and TAR anthers at the meiotic and mature stages, with transcript amounts in TAR being less than those in TAA. The orf312 gene is similar to the previously described orf288, a part of which is among the components comprising WA352, a chimeric CMS-associated gene of wild-abortive-type CMS.

In this paper, we study the electronic properties of TP in vacuum, micro-hydrated from one up to three molecules of water and embedded in a continuum of water. We discuss electron affinities, charge distribution, and bond dissociation energies of TP, and find that these properties do not change significantly upon hydration. In agreement with its large electron affinity, and bond breaking triggered by electron attachment requires energies higher than 2.5 eV, ruling out the direct formation of bioactive TP radicals. Our results suggest, therefore, that the selective behavior of TP cannot be explained by a one-electron reduction from a neighboring O2 molecule. Alternatively, we propose that TP's hypoxic selectivity could be a consequence of O2 scavenging hydrogen radicals.Appetitive control is driven by the hedonic response to food and affected by several factors. Heart rate variability (HRV) signals have been used to index autonomic activity and arousal levels towards visual stimuli. The current research aimed to examine the influence of body mass index (BMI), disordered eating behaviors, and sex on the HRV reactivity to food in a nonclinical sample. Thirty-eight healthy male and sixty-one healthy female participants completed questionnaires assessing disordered eating symptoms. HRV was recorded when the participants received visual stimuli of high-calorie food, neutral and negative emotional signals. Generalized estimating equation models were used to investigate the associations between HRV, BMI, disordered eating behaviors, and sex across the three stimulus types. Male participants demonstrated a higher ratio of low-frequency power to high-frequency power (LF/HF) than females across all the stimulus types. An increase in LF/HF reactivity to food signals was observed in all the study subjects. The moderation effect of BMI on LF/HF in response to food signals was also observed. Our study suggests that body weight may play a role in the interaction between sympathetic activity and food stimuli; however, how the interaction between sympathetic activity and food stimuli contributes to diet control warrants further investigation.Wastewater collection systems can be a source of odors that lead to complaints from plant workers, the public, and nearby property owners. The primary source of odors released from such systems is the presence of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas at high concentrations. This study was conducted in the main pumping station in Kuwait with a capacity of 570,000 m3/day to assess H2S gas emission, determine factors affecting H2S generation, and evaluate the effectiveness of the odor control system comprising stripping using sodium hydroxide and carbon adsorption. Yearly data on wastewater flow rate, temperature, pH, BOD5, and H2S were obtained from plant records over the years 2013-2015, as well as monthly data measurements were conducted during May to December 2016, and weekly data were collected during a plant monitoring program in March and April 2017. Statistical analysis showed seasonal, daily, and hourly variations in H2S concentrations, with higher values reported in summer, cyclic hourly patterns obtained daily, and peak H2S level of 10 ppm recorded at 7 pm and 40 °C.
