    Elevated neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) is a promising marker for severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) and multiple organ failure, suggesting systemic and local contributions during pancreatitis. We investigated the role of NGAL locally on acinar cell biology.

    Western blot, reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction, and immunohistochemistry analysis were performed to analyze the levels of NGAL receptors, apoptotic and regeneration markers, and 4-hydroxynonenal (4HNE) levels, 3-[4,5-Dimethylthiazole-2-yl]-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay, and annexin V/propidium iodide staining were used to evaluate cell viability, and effect on endothelial cells was accessed by endothelial permeability assay.

    Cerulein treatment at 20 μM for 12 hours significantly reduced acinar cell viability by 40%, which was rescued by NGAL at 800 and 1600 ng/mL concentrations, observed during mild and SAP, respectively. Mechanistically, NGAL significantly reduced the levels of reactive oxygen species and 4HNE adduct formation in a 24p3R-dependent manner and upregulated the expression of acinar cell regeneration markers, like CDK-2, CDK-4, and C-myc.     The objective of this study was to investigate the pattern and the oncologic impact of local recurrence after surgical resection of pancreatic cancer.

    From July 1992 to December 2016, 388 patients who underwent curative-intent surgery for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma were retrospectively reviewed.

    At a median follow-up of 29.0 months, 286 (73.7%) of the 367 patients experienced recurrence, and the 5-year overall survival rate was 31.3%. The first recurrence pattern was local in 83 patients (22.0%), systemic in 152 patients (40.2%), and locosystemic in 51 patients (13.5%). There was no difference in overall survival between the patients who had either local or systemic recurrence (P > 0.05). Remnant pancreas, common hepatic artery, celiac trunk, and para-aortic area were the common local recurrence sites in both head and body/tail cancer. However, the superior mesenteric artery (P = 0.050) and portal vein (P = 0.001) were more frequent local recurrence sites for a head tumor, and the surgical bed was a common recurrence site for body/tail tumor (P < 0.001).

    The aim of the study was to investigate the global research levels in chronic pancreatitis (CP) fields.

    The term "chronic pancreatitis" was used to retrieve articles published between 2009 and 2018 from the Web of Science database. The 15 highest-output countries' gross domestic product was retrieved to analyze the correlation between output and economic development. The 5 top-ranking countries were compared in quantity and quality. The frequently used terms of all articles were retrieved to conduct co-occurrence analysis to reveal research highlights for CP.

    There were 6094 articles included and 6007 articles were from 15 highest-output countries. There was a positive correlation between output and gross domestic product (r = 0.928, P < 0.001). The United States, China, and Japan had increasing trends in total output (P = 0.022, P < 0.001, and P = 0.021, respectively). China and Japan had increasing trends in output per capita (P < 0.001 and P = 0.023). However, in average impact factor, all 5 countries did not show increasing trends (all P > 0.05). For research highlights, mass lesion and autoimmune pancreatitis were the notable aspects.

    Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a sudden onset, rapidly evolving inflammatory response with systemic inflammation and multiorgan failure (MOF) in a subset of patients. New highly accurate clinical decision support tools are needed to allow local doctors to provide expert care.

  • The peculiar Au···H hydrogen bonding has garnered significant interests, but its existence and nature remain an open question in gold chemistry. In this paper, we established and authenticated the first intramolecular Au···H-O hydrogen bonding in gold(I) complexes. Our computational results based on an ab initio valence bond (VB) method, namely the block-localized wave function (BLW) method, clarified that this Au···H-O hydrogen bonding is a new type of resonance-assisted hydrogen bond (RAHB). In this RAHB, π conjugation in the hydrogen bond donor has the capability to modulate the Au···H-O hydrogen bonding. In contrast to conventional RAHBs, however, the Au···H-O hydrogen bonding is antielectrostatic and is dominated by the charge transfer interaction including cooperative σ electron donation from the d orbital of the metal center to the antibonding orbital of the hydroxyl group and π conjugation from the hydroxyl group to adjacent π deficient or strong π electron withdrawing groups. This novel theoretical perspective not only confirms the existence and reveals the nature of intramolecular Au···H hydrogen bonding but also provides a promising strategy to rationally design strong gold hydrogen bonds.Telecom-wavelength single photons are essential components for long-distance quantum networks. However, bright and pure single photon sources at telecom wavelengths remain challenging to achieve. Here, we demonstrate a bright telecom-wavelength single photon source based on a tapered nanobeam containing InAs/InP quantum dots. The tapered nanobeam enables directional and Gaussian-like far-field emission of the quantum dots. As a result, using above-band excitation we obtain an end-to-end brightness of 4.1 ± 0.1% and first-lens brightness of 27.0 ± 0.1% at the ∼1300 nm wavelength. Furthermore, we adopt quasi-resonant excitation to reduce both multiphoton emission and decoherence from unwanted charge carriers. As a result, we achieve a coherence time of 523 ± 16 ps and postselected Hong-Ou-Mandel visibility of 0.91 ± 0.09 along with a comparable first-lens brightness of 21.0 ± 0.1%. The question is What should every citizen who needs to venture out to fulfill their daily business do in addition to wearing a mask, handwashing, and physical distancing? Could we add simultaneous nasal and oral irrigation as a nontherapeutic practice to our personal care list as an additional preventative layer?In spite of the highly ionic character of most lithium-element bonds, the bonding within Li2X2 rings presents similarities with that found in analogous transition metal systems. Meanwhile, the PDMS chip showed good biocompatibility and inhibited adhesion of human blood cells. Our work points to a new strategy to address pathogenic bacterial contamination and infection.
    The availability of information on healthy products does not ensure the empowerment of people with the knowledge on how to choose or avoid food products or dishes depending on unhealthy factors. Public knowledge and beliefs of unhealthy food effects on health needs to be evaluated so that appropriate measures can be taken to properly inform people and relevant socio-demographic groups.

    The original survey questionnaire containing questions about specific food groups and various health effects was compiled. A total of 1,007 respondents, Lithuanian residents aged 18-75 years, were surveyed in March 2019. Multilevel stratified probability sampling method was used for data representativeness.

    Almost half of respondents (46.2%) knew that deep-fried food could cause cancer. The majority of respondents (68.4%) were aware that sugar causes obesity and 61.7% were aware that sugar increases the risk of diabetes mellitus; 41.6% (more often those living in non-rural areas) know that grilled meat may cause cancer. More than half of respondents (57.2%) (more likely those living in non-rural areas and those with a university degree) were aware that smoked meat products may cause cancer. Only 46.4% were aware of the fact that salt raises blood pressure and the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Methods Studies on the differential diagnosis of breast tumors using DKI-derived parameters were systemically retrieved from PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science without a time limit. Review Manager 5.3 was used to calculate the standardized mean differences (SMDs) and 95% confidence intervals of the mean kurtosis (MK), mean diffusivity (MD), and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC). Stata 12.0 was used to pool the sensitivity, specificity, and diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) as well as the publication bias and heterogeneity of each parameter. Fagan's nomograms were plotted to predict the post-test probabiMD demonstrate a comparable diagnostic performance in the discrimination of breast tumors based on their microstructures and non-Gaussian characteristics.     A monocentric retrospective study of 339 patients diagnosed with a new DLGG between 01/01/1982 and 01/01/2017 was created. Inclusion criteria were patient age ≥18 years at diagnosis and histological diagnosis of WHO grade II glioma (according to 1993, 2007, and 2016 WHO classifications). The survival parameters were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method with a 95% confidence interval. Differences in survival were tested for statistical significance by the log-rank test. The nomogram's predictive performance was confirmed in both the internal and external validation cohorts. Conclusion A novel nomogram is available as a web-based tool and accurately predicts long-term RFS for GC after radical resection. The tool can also be used to determine the benefit of adjuvant chemotherapy by comparing scores with and without this intervention.

This superior performance is attributed to the unique mesoporous architecture of the nanowires, which exhibits a high surface area of 122 cm3·g-1. Further, rapid adsorption/desorption of the REEs reveals minimal morphological alteration and hence high structural stability of these hybrid TMO nanowires after multiple cycles. The ready accessibility of the adsorption sites at crystallite boundaries and the surfaces as well as rapid adsorption of the REEs on the mesoporous nanostructure facilitate considerable adsorption capacity, improved structural stability, and extended cyclability, all of which suggest the potential for this material in REE extraction.Chemical investigation of a marine sponge-associated Bacillus sp. led to the discovery of bacillibactins E and F (1 and 2).     Opioids are more commonly prescribed for chronic pain in rural settings in the USA, yet little is known about how the rural context influences efforts to improve opioid medication management.

    The Six Building Blocks is an evidence-based program that guides primary care practices in making system-based improvements in managing patients using long-term opioid therapy. It was implemented at 6 rural and rural-serving organizations with 20 clinic locations over a 15-month period. To gain further insight about their experience with implementing the program, interviews and focus groups were conducted with staff and clinicians at the six organizations at the end of the 15 months and transcribed. Team members used a template analysis approach, a form of qualitative thematic analysis, to code these data for barriers, facilitators, and corresponding subcodes.

    Facilitators to making systems-based changes in opioid management within a rural practice context included a desire to help patients and their community, external pressures to make changes in opioid management, a desire to reduce workplace stress, external support for the clinic, supportive clinic leadership, and receptivity of patients. Barriers to making changes included competing demands on clinicians and staff, a culture of clinician autonomy, inadequate data systems, and a lack of patient resources in rural areas.

    The barriers and facilitators identified here point to potentially unique determinants of practice that should be considered when addressing opioid prescribing for chronic pain in the rural setting.

    Prior studies indicate greater disease burden for obesity among rural compared with urban residents but no differences for mood disorder based on geographic location. Recent attention has focused on the need to examine regional rural-urban disparities in disease burden. We focused on mood disorders and obesity prevalence within three southeastern Minnesota counties served by the Mayo Clinic Center for Translational Science Award, in Rochester, Minnesota, as these were top priorities identified in community health needs assessments.

    Cross-sectional study to assess the association of rural-urban locality on 5-year (2009-2014) prevalence of mood disorder and obesity obtained using the Rochester Epidemiological Project medical records linkage system, among subjects residing in three mixed rural-urban counties on April 1, 2014.     Little is known about designing research recruitment campaigns that connect with underserved, geographically isolated rural populations. A theoretically informed process is needed to assist research teams and practitioners in their evaluation of Facebook's feasibility as a recruitment tool and development of online materials for recruiting rural adults into healthcare delivery intervention development studies.

    We drew from research and theory in communication and incorporated process analysis techniques to develop replicable procedures for designing and evaluating Facebook campaigns for rural recruitment. We describe our process and illustrate using two case studies.

    Campaigns received approximately 1000 link clicks from the target rural demographic and successfully enrolled participants using Facebook as a primary method of recruitment. The rural tobacco intervention development study received a total of 477 link clicks, cost only $155.80, and enrolled three (23%) of its 13 participants from Facebook. The rural mental health intervention development study received a total of 518 link clicks, cost only $233.28, and enrolled 178 participants.

    Our process yielded two successful recruitment campaigns. Facebook was an affordable and efficacious strategy for enrolling adults in behavioral research studies on tobacco and mental health. Future work should apply these theoretical techniques to additional study topics and evaluate specific message features associated with recruitment.

To implement digital technology, a mobile health interest group was established to lay the foundation for an enterprise-wide digital health innovation platform. To create a foundation, an interprofessional team was established, and a series of formal networking events was conducted. Three online digital health training models were developed, and a full-day regional conference was held featuring nationally recognized speakers and panel discussions with clinicians, researchers, and patient advocates involved in digital health programs at UAMS. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/seclidemstat.html Finally, an institution-wide survey exploring the interest in and knowledge of digital health technologies was distributed. Recent attention has focused on the need to examine regional rural-urban disparities in disease burden. We focused on mood disorders and obesity prevalence within three southeastern Minnesota counties served by the Mayo Clinic Center for Translational Science Award, in Rochester, Minnesota, as these were top priorities identified in community health needs assessments. Cross-sectional study to assess the association of rural-urban locality on 5-year (2009-2014) prevalence of mood disorder and obesity obtained using the Rochester Epidemiological Project medical records linkage system, among subjects residing in three mixed rural-urban counties on April 1, 2014. Multivariable analyses adjusted for demographics, socioeconomic status using an individual housing-based measure, and counties. The study cohort (percent rural location) included 91,2n health outcomes. Little is known about designing research recruitment campaigns that connect with underserved, geographically isolated rural populations. A theoretically informed process is needed to assist research teams and practitioners in their evaluation of Facebook's feasibility as a recruitment tool and development of online materials for recruiting rural adults into healthcare delivery intervention development studies. We drew from research and theory in communication and incorporated process analysis techniques to develop replicable procedures for designing and evaluating Facebook campaigns for rural recruitment. We describe our process and illustrate using two case studies. Campaigns received approximately 1000 link clicks from the target rural demographic and successfully enrolled participants using Facebook as a primary method of recruitment. The rural tobacco intervention development study received a total of 477 link clicks, cost only $155.80, and enrolled three (23%) of its 13 participants from Facebook. The rural mental health intervention development study received a total of 518 link clicks, cost only $233.28, and enrolled 178 participants. Our process yielded two successful recruitment campaigns. Facebook was an affordable and efficacious strategy for enrolling adults in behavioral research studies on tobacco and mental health. Future work should apply these theoretical techniques to additional study topics and evaluate specific message features associated with recruitment. To implement digital technology, a mobile health interest group was established to lay the foundation for an enterprise-wide digital health innovation platform. To create a foundation, an interprofessional team was established, and a series of formal networking events was conducted. Three online digital health training models were developed, and a full-day regional conference was held featuring nationally recognized speakers and panel discussions with clinicians, researchers, and patient advocates involved in digital health programs at UAMS. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/seclidemstat.html Finally, an institution-wide survey exploring the interest in and knowledge of digital health technologies was distributed. It revealed that there are opportunities to increase training, communication, and collaboration for digital health implementation.     To explore differences among placental anastomoses, territory discordance, and umbilical cord insertion of twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) with and without selective intrauterine growth restriction (sIUGR).

    This study retrospectively analyzed 57 patients with TTTS who received conservative treatment and finally delivered at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Peking University Third Hospital from April 2014 to April 2019. Nine of the patient's placentas were too broken to finish the perfusion, and 48 were kept for graph analysis after perfusion. Among the 48 placentas, there were 17 in the TTTS with sIUGR group and 31 in the TTTS without sIUGR group. Differences in the placentas were compared between groups.

    To identify if there is a link between sacral agenesis (SA) and post-operative coronal imbalance in patients with congenital lumbosacral deformities.

    This study reviewed a consecutive series of patients with congenital lumbosacral deformities. They had a minimum follow-up of 2 years. According to different diagnosis, they were divided into SA and non-SA group. Comparison analysis was performed between patients with and without post-operative coronal imbalance and risk factors were identified.

    A total of 45 patients (18 in SA group and 27 in non-SA group) were recruited into this study, among whom 33 patients maintained coronal balance while 12 demonstrated postoperative coronal imbalance at last follow-up (14.32 ± 7.67 mm vs 35.53 ± 3.91 mm, P < 0.001). Univariate analysis showed that preoperative lumbar Cobb angle, immediate postoperative coronal balance distance and diagnosis of SA were significantly different between patients with and without post-operative coronal imbalance (P < 0.05). Binary logistic regression analysis showed that SA was an independent risk factor for postoperative coronal imbalance.

    As an independent risk factor for postoperative coronal imbalance, high level of suspicion of SA should be aware in children with congenital lumbosacral deformities. Sufficient bone grafts at sacroiliac joint are recommended for SA patients to prevent postoperative coronal imbalance.

    Primary synovial chondromatosis (PSC) is a progressive disorder of unknown etiology resulting in formation of multiple loose bodies. If left untreated, it may lead to degenerative changes or malignant transformation to chondrosarcoma.

    Seventeen patients who underwent combined posterior and anterior ankle arthroscopy within the same operative session and had histologically confirmed PSC were included in this retrospective study. American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) Ankle-Hindfoot score was used to evaluate ankle function preoperatively and at a final follow-up. A 3-question survey was used to evaluate patient's satisfaction at the final follow-up.

    In 14 patients, loose bodies were found in both compartments of the ankle, in 2 only in the anterior compartment, and in 1 only in the posterior compartment. All patients had evident signs of synovial inflammation in both compartments. The AOFAS Ankle-Hindfoot score increased from the preoperative median score of 65 (range, 29-90) to 95 (range, 65-100) at the final follow-up.

Combined ultrasound-assisted osmotic dehydration (UOD) and application of active coatings incorporating natural preservatives represents an attractive alternative to sulphuring to preserve the sensorial and nutritional quality of dried fruits. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of osmotic dehydration (OD) and UOD, and the use of pectin coatings (alone or with citric acid or ascorbic acid) on physical, textural and microstructural properties of hot air-dried apricots.

    Fresh apricot cubes (1 cm
    ) were pretreated with either OD at 55 °C for 30 and 45 min or UOD at two ultrasonic frequencies of 25 and 35 kHz for 30 and 45 min followed by application of active coatings with pectin alone, pectin with citric acid or pectin with ascorbic acid for 10 min. All pretreated coated samples were then hot air-dried at 60 °C until a final moisture content of 20% (wet basis) was reached. Physical (shrinkage, apparent aever, UOD increased browning values of the dried apricots. Coating of UOD samples with pectin and ascorbic acid resulted in substantial discolouration in hot air-dried apricots.

    In this study the effect of high hydrostatic pressure (HHP; 500 MPa for 250 s at 25 °C) and thermal processing (at 65 °C for 10 min, 75 °C for 2 min and 95 °C for 1 min) were evaluated in the formulation of a cold-pressed beverage from purple passion fruit, green passion fruit and carrot juice, taking into account antioxidant capacity, vitamin C concentration, sensorial evaluation and microbiological growth at 8 °C.

    The formulation containing 67% purple passion fruit, 17% green passion fruit and 17% carrot was the one that stood out with its antioxidant capacity, high vitamin C concentration and sensorial evaluation. The HHP treatment preserved the antioxidant capacity and vitamin C concentration, and resulted in the best scent. Juices stored at 8 °C did not show microbial growth.

The recent elucidation of the experimental structure of SARS-CoV-2 RdRp enzyme complexed with triphosphate form of Remdesivir (RTP) has opened an avenue for structure-based identification of potent inhibitors. Given the high mortality rate of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and lack of effective therapeutics against it, an alternative for safe and speedy drug discovery needs to be sought after. One promising strategy could be to explore the possibility for repurposing the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved antiviral drugs and antiviral phytocompounds. In the present study, a set of FDA approved antiviral drugs and antiviral phytocompounds were screened for their ability to bind within the RdRp enzyme active pocket.   • Recent insights have emphasized the importance of myocardial and systemic inflammation in Takotsubo syndrome (TTS). In a large registry of unselected patients, we sought to evaluate whether residual high inflammatory response (RHIR) could impact cardiovascular outcome after TTS.

    Patients with TTS were retrospectively included between 2008 and 2018 in three general hospitals. Three hundred eighty-five patients with TTS were split into three subgroups, according to tertiles of C-reactive protein (CRP) levels at discharge (CRP <5.2mg/L, CRP range 5.2 to 19mg/L, and CRP >19mg/L). There are multiple reasons for initiating a method transfer, multiple regulatory settings, and multiple context of use. All of these factors influence the specific requirements for the method transfer. This recommendation paper describes the considerations and best practices for the transfer of flow cytometric methods and provides individual case studies as examples. In addition, the manuscript emphasizes the importance of appropriately conducting a method transfer on data reliability.

    A descriptive study was conducted at a pediatric ward in a university hospital in Brazil. A content validity index with a concordance of 0.8 was used for validation.

    The content was validated with the participation of 19 content judges (nurses, anesthesiologists, and surgeons); face validity was achieved with the participation of 22 parents and their respective children aged 7-12 years old. The contents of the comic book included perioperative care (hospitalization, fasting, surgical team, operating room, and anesthesia). Universal content validity indices of 0.89 and 0.99 were obtained for content and face validity, respectively. Free Portuguese educational material titled "Getting to know the Surgery Center" was creimed to further the development of educational materials that help alleviate stress, fear, and anxiety among children awaiting surgery, as well as their parents/guardians. As such, it offers a positive and appropriate contribution to perioperative nursing. The study further contributes to a discussion on pediatric nursing, which goes beyond clinical care and procedure. In the context of pediatric surgery and the children themselves, the results indicate that the family must be included in the surgical process and that the language employed must be appropriate to the target audience. Our comic book can be used by nurses to develop similar resources for diverse needs.
    There is no quality of life tool specifically developed for patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) to assess how this chronic condition and its treatment affect patients. The Toronto Aortic Stenosis Quality of Life Questionnaire (TASQ) has been developed to overcome this gap. The results of the validation of the TASQ in patients undergoing treatment for severe AS are presented.

    Prospective study at 10 centres in Europe and Canada, which enrolled 274 patients with severe symptomatic AS undergoing surgical or transcatheter aortic valve replacement. Mean TASQ score at baseline was 71.2 points and increased to 88.9 three months after aortic valve implantation (P<0.001). Increases were seen for the emotional impact (32.0 to 39.0; P<0.001), physical limitations (14.8 to 22.0; P<0.001), and physical symptoms (8.5 vs. 11.0; P<0.001) domains. Internal consistency was good/excellent for overall TASQ score (α=0.891) and for the physical limitation, emotional impact, and social limitation domains (α=0.815-0.950). Test-retest reliability was excellent or strong for the overall TASQ (intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.883) and for the physical symptoms, physical limitation, emotional impact, and social limitation domains (intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.791-0.895). Responsiveness was medium overall (Cohen's d=0.637) and medium/large for physical symptoms, emotional impact, and physical limitations (0.661-0.812). Sensitivity to change was significant for physical symptoms, physical limitations (both P<0.001), emotional impact (P=0.003), and social limitations (P=0.038).

Twenty-three elderly male patients (mean age 72 years) underwent a total of 46 intravenous infusions of 1.0 or 1.5 L of either hypotonic non-electrolyte fluid (glycine 1.5%) or isotonic electrolyte fluid (Ringer's acetate or 0.9% saline). Urine osmolality (used to indicate renal water conservation) and plasma creatinine were measured before the infusions started. A two-volume model was fitted to repeated measurements of the blood haemoglobin concentration and the urinary excretion, using mixed-effects modelling software. Urine osmolality was examined as a potential covariate to the fixed kinetic parameters. The results show that distribution and redistribution of infused fluid occurred twice as fast for the non-electrolyte fluids as for the electrolyte-containing fluids, while the urine flow showed less difference. For both types of fluid, high urine osmolality served as a statistically significant covariate to the rate constant describing urinary excretion. Simulations showed that a high pre-infusion urine osmolality doubled the time required for the kidneys to excrete 50% of a 30-minute infusion. High plasma creatinine independently prolonged the elimination of non-electrolyte fluid. The use of 0.9% saline instead of Ringer's prolonged the excretion of electrolyte-containing fluid. In conclusion, renal water conservation is a determinant of the diuretic response to crystalloid fluid, regardless of whether the fluid contains electrolytes, and it should be considered in fluid balance studies.
    The term prediabetes is used to describe a population with an elevated risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). With projections of an increase in the incidence of T2DM, prevention or delay of the disease and its complications is paramount. It is currently unknown whether pioglitazone is beneficial in the treatment of people with increased risk of developing T2DM.

    To assess the effects of pioglitazone for prevention or delay of T2DM and its associated complications in people at risk of developing T2DM.

    We searched CENTRAL, MEDLINE, Chinese databases, ICTRP Search Portal and ClinicalTrials.gov. We did not apply any language restrictions. Further, we investigated the reference lists of all included studies and reviews. We tried to contact all study authors. The date of the last search of databases was November 2019 (March 2020 for Chinese databases).

    We included randomised controlled trials (RCTs) with a minimum duration of 24 weeks, and participants diagnosed with intermediate hyperglycaemiared with metformin neither showed advantage nor disadvantage regarding the development of T2DM in people at increased risk (low-certainty evidence). The data and reporting of all-cause mortality, SAEs, micro- and macrovascular complications were generally sparse. Aided by advances in analytical techniques, the novel avian oral PFAS CTVs reported in the present study are lower than the previously reported toxicity reference values (TRVs) estimated for birds chronically exposed via feed. Such real-world tasks are relevant to characterize longitudinal brain reorganization poststroke, and removal of TCM artifacts is vital for improved clinical interpretation and translation. In this study, we developed a novel independent component analysis (ICA)-based approach to denoise spatio-temporally varying TCM artifacts in 14 persons with aphasia who participated in an overt language fMRI paradigm. We compared the new methodology with other existing approaches such as "standard" volume registration, nonselective motion correction ICA packages (i.e., AROMA), and combining the novel approach with AROMA. Results show that the proposed methodology outperforms other approaches in removing TCM-related false positive activity (i.e., improved detectability power) with high spatial specificity. The proposed method was also effective in maintaining a balance between removal of TCM-related trial-by-trial variability and signal retention.
