  • The purpose of this review is to compare and contrast the key messages from the 2018 American Heart Association (AHA)/American College of Cardiology (ACC) Multisociety Guideline on the Management of Blood Cholesterol and the 2019 European Society of Cardiology (ESC)/European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS) Guidelines for the Management of Dyslipidemias. We also review some of the evidence that served as the basis for these guidelines and share our opinion regarding these guidelines.

    Patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), severe hypercholesterolemia, familial hypercholesterolemia, or diabetes should be treated aggressively with lipid-lowering therapy. In addition to traditional risk factors included in risk scores, assessment of risk enhancers/modifiers may improve risk stratification. The addition of ezetimibe ± proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 inhibitors plays an integral role in the management of very-high-risk ASCVD patients; the ESC/EAS guidelines support more aggressive use of these medications.

    Both the AHA/ACC Multisociety and ESC/EAS guidelines provide an evidence-based approach to management of blood cholesterol. The greatest difference between these two guidelines is the classification and recommended management of very-high-risk patients. Implementation of either guideline will likely lead to improved ASCVD outcomes compared with current treatment practice.

    The antiobesity effects of activation of hypothalamic neuropeptide Y2 receptors (NPYR2) by the gut-derived hormone, peptide YY (PYY), are established. However, more recent insight into the biology of PYY has demonstrated remarkable benefits of sustained activation of pancreatic beta-cell NPYR1, that promises to open a new therapeutic avenue in diabetes.

    The therapeutic applicability of NPYR2 agonists for obesity has been considered for many years. An alternative pathway for the clinical realisation of PYY-based drugs could be related to the development of NPYR1 agonists for treatment of diabetes. Thus, although stimulation of NPYR1 on pancreatic beta-cells has immediate insulinostatic effects, prolonged activation of these receptors leads to well defined beta-cell protective effects, with obvious positive implications for the treatment of diabetes. In this regard, NPYR1-specific, long-acting enzyme resistant PYY analogues, have been recently developed with encouraging preclinical effects observed on pancreatic islet architecture in diabetes. In agreement, the benefits of certain types of bariatric surgeries on beta-cell function and responsiveness have also been linked to elevated PYY secretion and NPY1 receptor activation.

  • The continuous growth in global population since the beginning of the 20th century result in the necessity of food and energy provision favoring the intensive use of agricultural products such as pesticides. Although pesticides are important to prevent losses in the conventional chemically based agriculture, they frequently present side effects, which goes against agricultural production. The use of pesticides cause direct and indirect effects to soil organisms unbalancing essential soil processes (e.g. primary production, organic matter decomposition, nutrient cycling). Under tropical conditions, very little is known regarding the effects of pesticides to terrestrial organisms. Hence, the aim of the present study was to assess the ecotoxicological effects of the herbicide DMA® 806 BR (active ingredient 2,4-D) and the insecticide Regent® 800 WG (active ingredient fipronil), on terrestrial plant species (the dicot Raphanus sativus var. acanthioformis and the monocot Allium cepa), and soil invertebrates (the collembolan Folsomia candida and the enchytraeid Enchytraeus crypticus), using natural (NS) and artificial soils (TAS). For both pesticides, negative effects on non-target species were observed at concentrations lower than the doses recommended to prevent pests in sugarcane fields. The three species were screened for biosurfactant production and identified by 16S rRNA sequencing as Brevundimonas sp. IITISM 11, Pseudomonas sp. IITISM 19 and Pseudomonas sp. IITISM 24. The strains showed emulsification activities of 51%, 57% and 63%, respectively. The purified biosurfactants were characterised using FT-IR, GC-MS and NMR spectroscopy and found to have structural similarities to glycolipopeptides, cyclic lipopeptides and glycolipids. The biosurfactants produced were found to be stable under a wide range of temperature (0-100 °C), pH (4-12) and salinity (up to 20% NaCl). Moreover, the strains displayed tolerance to high concentrations (275 mg/L) of anthracene and fluorene and showed a good amount of cell surface hydrophobicity with different hydrocarbons.     The continuous growth in global population since the beginning of the 20th century result in the necessity of food and energy provision favoring the intensive use of agricultural products such as pesticides. Although pesticides are important to prevent losses in the conventional chemically based agriculture, they frequently present side effects, which goes against agricultural production. The use of pesticides cause direct and indirect effects to soil organisms unbalancing essential soil processes (e.g. primary production, organic matter decomposition, nutrient cycling). Under tropical conditions, very little is known regarding the effects of pesticides to terrestrial organisms. Hence, the aim of the present study was to assess the ecotoxicological effects of the herbicide DMA® 806 BR (active ingredient 2,4-D) and the insecticide Regent® 800 WG (active ingredient fipronil), on terrestrial plant species (the dicot Raphanus sativus var. acanthioformis and the monocot Allium cepa), and soil invertebrates (the collembolan Folsomia candida and the enchytraeid Enchytraeus crypticus), using natural (NS) and artificial soils (TAS). The strains showed emulsification activities of 51%, 57% and 63%, respectively. Out of twenty five phytocomponents, ten components showed best binding affinity against two viral proteins viz. N-terminal RNA binding domain (NRBD; PDB ID 6M3M) of nucleocapsid protein and papain-like protease (PL-PRO; PDB ID 6W9C) of SARS-CoV-2 using AutoDock 4.2.6, AutoDock Vina and iGEMDOCK. PASS analyses of all ten phytocomponents using Lipinski's Rule of five showed promising results. Further, druglikeness and toxicity assessment using OSIRIS Data Warrior v5.2.1 software exhibited the feasibility of phytocomponents as drug candidates with no predicted toxicity. Molecular dynamics simulation study of NRBD of SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein-alpha-spinasterol complex and PL-PRO-cycloeucalenol complex displayed strong stability at 300 K. From the Youth Risk Behavior Survey 2009-2015, we examined self-report of adverse experiences (e.g., being bullied, skipping school due to fear for personal safety) and performed Logistic regressions to estimate the odds of carrying a weapon and were adjusted to include demographics and adverse experiences. When surveyed by sexual identity, 14.0% of heterosexual, 21.8% of gay/lesbian, 18.5% of bisexual, and 17.4% of "not sure" students reported carrying a weapon in the past 30 days. Odds of carrying a weapon were significantly increased for youth who skipped school due to feeling unsafe at school, had ever been threatened with a weapon in the past year, and had ever been in a physical fight. Compared to heterosexual female peers, sexual minority women had increased odds of carrying a weapon. Pediatricians should recognize that experiencing bullying and feeling unsafe are associated with weapon carrying, particularly among sexual minorities. Additionally, social support was tested as a moderator. Findings indicated that sexual victimization was related to greater depressive symptoms, PTSD symptoms, and AUD symptoms. In addition, perceived social support moderated the relation between sexual victimization and depressive symptoms, however, in a direction contrary to hypotheses. In particular, higher sexual victimization was associated with greater depressive symptoms among LGBQA students with higher levels of social support (b = .29, p = .00), and was not significant among LGBQA students with lower levels of social support (b = .13, p = .26).     Concentrations of B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) reflect myocardial distension and stress, and are associated with poor prognosis in patients with cardiovascular disease. Accordingly, we hypothesized that concentrations of BNP would be associated with indices of adverse left ventricular (LV) remodeling and early stages of LV systolic and diastolic dysfunction in healthy participants from the general population.

    We measured BNP in 1757 women and 1677 men free from known coronary heart disease participating in the prospective observational Akershus Cardiac Examination 1950 Study. All study participants underwent extensive cardiovascular phenotyping at baseline, including detailed echocardiography with assessment of indexed LV mass (LVMI), diastolic [tissue Doppler e', E/e' ratio, indexed left atrial volume (LAVI), maximal tricuspid regurgitation velocity (TRVmax), and E/A ratio], and systolic [global longitudinal strain (GLS) and LV ejection fraction (LVEF)] function.

We performed a prospective study investigating markers (parkinsonian signs, cognitive status and oculomotor recordings, with a particular focus on the antisaccade latencies) of disease progression at baseline and at 5 years. We identified two groups of patients defined by the onset of freezing at 5 years of follow-up; the 'Freezer' group was defined by the onset of freezing in the ON medication condition during follow-up (n = 17), while the 'non-Freezer' group did not (n = 8).     We randomly assigned patients aged 40 years or older who had at least two episodes of unpredictable severe reflex syncope during the last year and a tilt-induced syncope with an asystolic pause longer than 3 s, to receive either an active (pacing ON; 63 patients) or an inactive (pacing OFF; 64 patients) dual-chamber pacemaker with closed loop stimulation (CLS). The primary endpoint was the time to first recurrence of syncope. Patients and independent outcome assessors were blinded to the assigned treatment. After a median follow-up of 11.2 months, syncope occurred in significantly fewer patients in the pacing group than in the control group [10 (16%) vs. 34 (53%); hazard ratio, 0.23; P = 0.00005]. The estimated syncope recurrence rate at 1 year was 19% (pacing) and 53% (control) and at 2 years, 22% (pacing) and 68% (control). A combined endpoint of syncope or presyncope occurred in significantly fewer patients in the pacing group [23 (37%) vs. 40 (63%); hazard ratio, 0.44; P = 0.002]. Minor device-related adverse events were reported in five patients (4%).

    In patients aged 40 years or older, affected by severe recurrent reflex syncope and tilt-induced asystole, dual-chamber pacemaker with CLS is highly effective in reducing the recurrences of syncope. The bioinformatics community has responded to the outbreak emergency with a set of tools and resource to identify biomarkers and drug targets that we review here. Starting from a consolidated corpus of 27 570 papers, we adopt latent Dirichlet analysis to extract relevant topics and select those associated with computational methods for biomarker identification and drug repurposing. In addition, we tested whether functional connectivity of the mesencephalic locomotor region could explain the oculomotor factors at baseline that were predictive of freezing onset. We performed a prospective study investigating markers (parkinsonian signs, cognitive status and oculomotor recordings, with a particular focus on the antisaccade latencies) of disease progression at baseline and at 5 years. The primary endpoint was the time to first recurrence of syncope. Patients and independent outcome assessors were blinded to the assigned treatment. After a median follow-up of 11.2 months, syncope occurred in significantly fewer patients in the pacing group than in the control group [10 (16%) vs. 34 (53%); hazard ratio, 0.23; P = 0.00005]. The estimated syncope recurrence rate at 1 year was 19% (pacing) and 53% (control) and at 2 years, 22% (pacing) and 68% (control). A combined endpoint of syncope or presyncope occurred in significantly fewer patients in the pacing group [23 (37%) vs. 40 (63%); hazard ratio, 0.44; P = 0.002]. Minor device-related adverse events were reported in five patients (4%). In patients aged 40 years or older, affected by severe recurrent reflex syncope and tilt-induced asystole, dual-chamber pacemaker with CLS is highly effective in reducing the recurrences of syncope. Although polysomnography (PSG) findings are well described in many neuromuscular disorders, there are limited reports from children with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). The aim of this study was to determine the sleep architecture and breathing characteristics and non-invasive ventilation (NIV) use in our pediatric SMA cohort. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional cohort study of all children with SMA in Queensland, Australia. Children were Nusinersen naïve and had a full diagnostic PSG in 2018. The PSG was scored and reported by a single pediatric sleep physician in accordance with American Academy of Sleep Medicine Criteria (2012). RESULTS In sum, 31 children (18 males), Six with Type 1, 16 with Type 2 and nine with Type 3, aged 0.25-18.8 years old were studied. SDB was seen in each SMA type and was more pronounced during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. Type 1 all patients exhibited SDB, three (50%) with central sleep apnea (CSA) and three (50%) with mixed disease. Type 2 five (31%) had CSA, one (6%) mixed disease, seven (44%) had early SDB and three (19%) had normal sleep breathing. Type 3 four (44%) children had CSA and five had early SDB. No child exhibited obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) alone.Starting NIV significantly reduced mean total PSG Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI) scores from a grouped mean of 15.4 events per hour (SD ± 14.6; 95% CI 6.1-24.7) to 4.0 events per hour (SD ± 4.2, 95% CI 1.2-6.5, p = 0.01). METHODS PubMed, Embase and Web of Science databases were searched for eligible studies. Data were extracted, and then weighted mean differences (WMDs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated. RESULTS A total of 25 studies involving 1480 cases and 2312 controls were included in this meta-analysis. Combined data indicated that the circulating fibrinogen levels were higher in OSA patients than in controls (WMD 0.38 g/L, 95% CI [0.29-0.47 g/L], p  less then  0.001; I2 = 80.3%, p  less then  0.001). In the subgroup analyses by disease severity, there were similar results in mild-moderate OSA patients (WMD 0.27 g/L, 95% CI [0.14-0.41 g/L], p  less then  0.001; I2 = 29.3%, p = 0.185) and severe OSA patients (WMD 0.54 g/L, 95% CI [0.28-0.79 g/L], p  less then  0.001; I2 = 65.9%, p = 0.012). METHODS In this cross-sectional study, we measured sleep parameters for 157 PD patients using an actigraph on the non-dominant wrist for six consecutive nights (95 Hoehn-Yahr stage I/II; 62 Hoehn-Yahr stage III-V). Moreover, two consecutive nights of actigraphy were performed on 1101 community-based control participants aged ≥60 years. RESULTS In multivariable analysis, sleep efficiency (SE) was significantly lower in patients with late-stage PD by 17.5% [95% confidence interval 15.3%-19.7%] and early-stage PD by 9.4% [7.6%-11.1%] compared to the controls (67.1% and 75.3% vs. 84.6%, respectively). Similar results were observed for wake after sleep onset (WASO) and fragmentation index (FI). Total sleep time and sleep onset latency (SOL) were significantly shorter in patients with late- and early-stage PD stage compared to the controls.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) chronic infection is the most frequent condition to be assessed in patients with CryoVas. The mortality rate among patients with HCV-associated CryoVas is 3× that of the general population, with a 63% 10-year survival rate. The recent advent of interferon-free direct-acting antivirals (DAAs), which have the potential to induce sustained virological response rates greater than 95%, has dramatically changed the management of chronic HCV infection and HCV-related CryoVas. B-cell depleting strategies, mainly with rituximab, are the main therapeutic option in severe and refractory cases of HCV-associated CryoVas. Despite the progress in the last years on the management of chronic HCV infection, there are still unmet needs regarding therapeutic management of severe and refractory HCV-associated CryoVas.Recently, the role of miRNA-142 (miR-142) in tumor development has attracted extensive attention. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of miR-142 and its potential target low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR)-related protein 8 (LRP8) on the proliferation, migration, invasion and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of gastric carcinoma (GC). Gene and protein expressions were detected using RT-qPCR and Western blotting, respectively. The biological behaviors of GC cell lines were determined by CCK-8, flow cytometry and Transwell assays, respectively. The interaction between miR-142 and LRP8 was confirmed with dual luciferase reporter assay. Xenograft nude mouse model was used to observe tumor growth. Here, miR-142 expression was markedly reduced in GC tissues and cells, and was negatively correlated with lymph node metastasis and poor prognosis in patients with GC. Stable miR-142 overexpression was sufficient to inhibit cell proliferation, migration and invasion in vitro and reduce tumor growth in vivo, accompanied by increased expression of the epithelial marker and reduced levels of mesenchymal markers. Mechanistically, the 3'-untranslated regions (3'-UTR) of LRP8 was a direct target of miR-142. Restoration of LRP8 attenuated the inhibitory effect of miR-142 on GC cells, whereas inhibition of LRP8 caused the opposite outcomes. In conclusion, our findings suggest that miR-142 plays a significant role in suppressing progression of GC by targeting LRP8, and miR-142 may be useful for the development of novel targeted therapies.
    Advanced fibrosis (AF) and liver cirrhosis (LC) are important milestones in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). FIB-4, NFS and BARD are validated scores with good accuracy in detecting AF and LC. APRI does not have similar predictive accuracy. While a modification (m-APRI) improves its use in viral hepatitis, this has yet to be evaluated in NAFLD. This study compares diagnostic performance of aforementioned scores in predicting AF and LC in NAFLD.

    Consecutive NAFLD patients undergoing Transient Elastography (TE) using Echosens® Fibroscan® for fibrosis staging were included. Cut-off liver stiffness measurements for AF and LC were 7.9 kPa and 11.5 kPa respectively. Anthropometric and laboratory tests done within 3 months were used. Diagnostic performances of scores were analyzed by standard statistical tests.

Area under receiver operator characteristic curves (AUROC) for prediction of AF at optimal cut-off points were m-APRI 0.84, APRI 0.80, FIB-4 0.77, NFS 0.77 and BARD 0.65. For prediction of LC, AUROC were m-APRI 0.83, APRI 0.76, FIB-4 0.81, NFS 0.77 and BARD 0.66. m-APRI was significantly superior to all scores compared in detecting AF (p < 0.05 for all) and superior to APRI (p = 0.008) and BARD (p = 0.007) in predicting LC. There was no significant difference between m-APRI and FIB-4 or NFS in prediction of LC.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) chronic infection is the most frequent condition to be assessed in patients with CryoVas. The mortality rate among patients with HCV-associated CryoVas is 3× that of the general population, with a 63% 10-year survival rate. The recent advent of interferon-free direct-acting antivirals (DAAs), which have the potential to induce sustained virological response rates greater than 95%, has dramatically changed the management of chronic HCV infection and HCV-related CryoVas. B-cell depleting strategies, mainly with rituximab, are the main therapeutic option in severe and refractory cases of HCV-associated CryoVas. Despite the progress in the last years on the management of chronic HCV infection, there are still unmet needs regarding therapeutic management of severe and refractory HCV-associated CryoVas.Recently, the role of miRNA-142 (miR-142) in tumor development has attracted extensive attention. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of miR-142 and its potential target low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR)-related protein 8 (LRP8) on the proliferation, migration, invasion and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of gastric carcinoma (GC). Gene and protein expressions were detected using RT-qPCR and Western blotting, respectively. The biological behaviors of GC cell lines were determined by CCK-8, flow cytometry and Transwell assays, respectively. The interaction between miR-142 and LRP8 was confirmed with dual luciferase reporter assay. Xenograft nude mouse model was used to observe tumor growth. Here, miR-142 expression was markedly reduced in GC tissues and cells, and was negatively correlated with lymph node metastasis and poor prognosis in patients with GC. Stable miR-142 overexpression was sufficient to inhibit cell proliferation, migration and invasion in vitro and reduce tumor growth in vivo, accompanied by increased expression of the epithelial marker and reduced levels of mesenchymal markers. Mechanistically, the 3'-untranslated regions (3'-UTR) of LRP8 was a direct target of miR-142. Restoration of LRP8 attenuated the inhibitory effect of miR-142 on GC cells, whereas inhibition of LRP8 caused the opposite outcomes. In conclusion, our findings suggest that miR-142 plays a significant role in suppressing progression of GC by targeting LRP8, and miR-142 may be useful for the development of novel targeted therapies. Advanced fibrosis (AF) and liver cirrhosis (LC) are important milestones in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). FIB-4, NFS and BARD are validated scores with good accuracy in detecting AF and LC. APRI does not have similar predictive accuracy. While a modification (m-APRI) improves its use in viral hepatitis, this has yet to be evaluated in NAFLD. This study compares diagnostic performance of aforementioned scores in predicting AF and LC in NAFLD. Consecutive NAFLD patients undergoing Transient Elastography (TE) using Echosens® Fibroscan® for fibrosis staging were included. Cut-off liver stiffness measurements for AF and LC were 7.9 kPa and 11.5 kPa respectively. Anthropometric and laboratory tests done within 3 months were used. Diagnostic performances of scores were analyzed by standard statistical tests. 161 patients qualified for the study. Mean age was 60.2 ± 14 years, BMI 26.8 ± 4.6 kg/m . M-probe was used in 113, XL in 48. Optimal cut-offs of m-APRI for AF and LC were 5.84 and 9 respectively. Area under receiver operator characteristic curves (AUROC) for prediction of AF at optimal cut-off points were m-APRI 0.84, APRI 0.80, FIB-4 0.77, NFS 0.77 and BARD 0.65. For prediction of LC, AUROC were m-APRI 0.83, APRI 0.76, FIB-4 0.81, NFS 0.77 and BARD 0.66. m-APRI was significantly superior to all scores compared in detecting AF (p < 0.05 for all) and superior to APRI (p = 0.008) and BARD (p = 0.007) in predicting LC. There was no significant difference between m-APRI and FIB-4 or NFS in prediction of LC. For prediction of AF in NAFLD, m-APRI outperforms BARD, APRI, NFS and FIB-4, while for the prediction of cirrhosis, m-APRI is superior to APRI and BARD but comparable to NFS and FIB-4. Here, we present the scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM/S) results of CrBr3 thin and thick flakes exfoliated onto highly ordered pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) surfaces and density functional theory (DFT) calculations to reveal the small energy gap (peak-to-peak energy gap to be 0.57 ± 0.04 eV; or the onset signal energy gap to be 0.29 ± 0.05 eV from dI/dV spectra). Atomic resolution topography images show the defect-free crystal structure and the dI/dV spectra exhibit multiple peak features measured at 77 K. The conduction band - valence band peak pairs in the multi-peak dI/dV spectrum agree very well with all reported optical transitions. STM topography images of mono- and bi-layer CrBr3 flakes exhibit edge degradation due to short air exposure (∼15 min) during sample transfer. In this review, we present an overview of interparticle interactions governing their assembly in a liquid phase. Considerable attention is devoted to examples that illustrate nanoparticle assembly into ordered superstructures using different types of building blocks, including plasmonic nanoparticles, magnetic nanoparticles, lanthanide-doped nanophosphors, and quantum dots. We also cover the physicochemical properties of nanoparticle ensembles, especially those arising from particle coupling effects.

  • Because financial constraint plays a significant role in TB control, the improvement of health and social protection systems is critical. Even before the pandemic, many TB-high-burden countries (HBCs) lacked robust health and social protection systems. These challenges highlight the substantial need for a more robust engagement of patients and civil society organizations and international support in addressing the consequences of COVID-19 on the control of TB.Poliomyelitis, a crippling viral disease, has been affecting many children in Pakistan despite the numerous efforts that have been taken to curb its spread. The COVID-19 pandemic has halted mass polio vaccination campaigns globally, including Pakistan, resulting in a resurgence of new cases. Pakistan managed to flatten the COVID-19 curve from July to October that made three immunization drives possible, but the COVID-19 cases are on the rise again which can again complicate the polio situation in the country if left unmonitored. The efforts of Pakistan have been effective with no significant rise in polio cases in 2020 as compared with 2019. We discuss the numerous challenges faced by the polio eradication program in Pakistan. To help eliminate polio, Pakistan needs to enhance its efforts in the struggle against polio with the same zeal and stringency used to flatten the curve of COVID-19 in these challenging times.There is a need for a paradigm shift across mental health in primary care to improve the lives of millions of Europeans. To contribute to this paradigm shift, the European Forum for Primary Care (EFPC-MH) working group for Mental Health, produced a Position Paper for Primary Care Mental Health outlining 14 themes that needed prioritizing. These themes were developed and discussed interactively during the EFPC conferences between 2012 and 2019. The Position Paper on Mental Health gives direction to the necessary improvements over the next ten years. The themes vary from preferable healthcare model to the social determinants highlighting issues such as inequalities. The Statement of Mental Health in Primary Care will be established in cooperation with fellow organizations.Ed Zigler was a champion for underprivileged youth, one who worked alongside communities to fight for long-lasting systemic changes that were informed by his lifespan and ecological perspective on the development of the whole child. This paper reports on the development, implementation, and preliminary outcomes of an intervention that embodied the Zigler approach by adopting a community participatory research lens to integrate complementary insights across community-based providers (promotoras), Latinx immigrant families, and developmental psychologists in the service of promoting parent-child relationship quality and preventing youth aggression and violence. Analyses from the first 112 Latinx mother-youth dyad participants (46% female children, ages 8-17) in the resultant, Confía en mí, Confío en ti, eight-week intervention revealed significant pre-post increases in purported mechanisms of change (i.e., attachment security, reflective functioning) and early intervention outcomes (i.e., depressive, anxiety, and externalizing problems). Treatment responses varied by youth age. A case analysis illustrated the lived experiences of the women and children served by this intervention. We discuss future directions for the program, as well as challenges to its sustainability. Finally, we consider Ed's legacy as we discuss the contributions of this work to developmental science and our understanding of attachment relationships among low-income immigrant Latinx families.Sexed semen is one of the newest reproductive technologies available for dairy farmers and can fulfil their desire to produce a high percentage of female calves. The present study was designed to define the willingness of Indian dairy farmers to pay for sexed semen. Hence, 120 small holder dairy farmers and 90 commercial dairy farmers were randomly selected from Karnal and Yamunanagar districts in North-western Haryana, where there is a high proportion of crossbred dairy cattle. Willingness to pay for sexed semen was evaluated by a contingent valuation method and its determinants by an interval regression model. The majority of the small holder dairy farmers (81.67%) were willing to pay for sexed semen and they were ready to pay around INR 340 per sexed semen straw. Almost all (99%) of the commercial dairy farmers were willing to pay around INR 770 per sexed semen straw, i.e. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/BIRB-796-(Doramapimod).html more than double the value identified by small holder dairy farmers. Among all the predictors fitted in the interval regression model to explain the willingness to pay for sexed semen by the commercial dairy farmers, namely education level, herd size and attitude towards public extension systems, were positive and significant contributors. These deficits have been well described over the past 25 years, but significant gaps remain in our understanding of the best practices to improve neurodevelopmental and psychosocial outcomes and health-related quality of life for individuals with paediatric and congenital heart disease. Innovative clinical, quality improvement, and research opportunities with collaboration across multiple disciplines and institutions were needed to address these gaps. The Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Outcome Collaborative was founded in 2016 with a described mission to determine and implement best practices of neurodevelopmental and psychosocial services for individuals and their families with paediatric and congenital heart disease through clinical, quality improvement, and research initiatives.

Analyses from the first 112 Latinx mother-youth dyad participants (46% female children, ages 8-17) in the resultant, Confía en mí, Confío en ti, eight-week intervention revealed significant pre-post increases in purported mechanisms of change (i.e., attachment security, reflective functioning) and early intervention outcomes (i.e., depressive, anxiety, and externalizing problems). Treatment responses varied by youth age. A case analysis illustrated the lived experiences of the women and children served by this intervention. We discuss future directions for the program, as well as challenges to its sustainability. Finally, we consider Ed's legacy as we discuss the contributions of this work to developmental science and our understanding of attachment relationships among low-income immigrant Latinx families.Sexed semen is one of the newest reproductive technologies available for dairy farmers and can fulfil their desire to produce a high percentage of female calves. The present study was designed to define the willingness of Indian dairy farmers to pay for sexed semen. Hence, 120 small holder dairy farmers and 90 commercial dairy farmers were randomly selected from Karnal and Yamunanagar districts in North-western Haryana, where there is a high proportion of crossbred dairy cattle. Willingness to pay for sexed semen was evaluated by a contingent valuation method and its determinants by an interval regression model. The majority of the small holder dairy farmers (81.67%) were willing to pay for sexed semen and they were ready to pay around INR 340 per sexed semen straw. Almost all (99%) of the commercial dairy farmers were willing to pay around INR 770 per sexed semen straw, i.e. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/BIRB-796-(Doramapimod).html more than double the value identified by small holder dairy farmers. Among all the predictors fitted in the interval regression model to explain the willingness to pay for sexed semen by the commercial dairy farmers, namely education level, herd size and attitude towards public extension systems, were positive and significant contributors. Our findings may help to identify what subsidy is required to promote sexed semen among dairy farmers, and as a consequence further improve breeding policies by introducing this new livestock production technology with the active participation of the dairy farmers.Compared to the general population, individuals with complex congenital heart disease are at increased risk for deficits in cognitive, neurodevelopmental, psychosocial, and physical functioning, resulting in a diminished health-related quality of life. These deficits have been well described over the past 25 years, but significant gaps remain in our understanding of the best practices to improve neurodevelopmental and psychosocial outcomes and health-related quality of life for individuals with paediatric and congenital heart disease. Innovative clinical, quality improvement, and research opportunities with collaboration across multiple disciplines and institutions were needed to address these gaps. The Cardiac Neurodevelopmental Outcome Collaborative was founded in 2016 with a described mission to determine and implement best practices of neurodevelopmental and psychosocial services for individuals and their families with paediatric and congenital heart disease through clinical, quality improvement, and research initiatives.
