In active vs inactive EoE, 70.0% vs 25.0% (P<0.05), 80.0% vs 41.5%, and 90.0% vs 90.9% patients had detectable gliadin, casein and whey, respectively. Casein and whey (20.0% and 100%, respectively) but not gliadin, were present in controls. To evaluate the voice and speech outcomes after tubed supraglottic laryngeal closure (TSLC) surgery to treat chronic aspiration after radiotherapy for head and neck cancer.
A retrospective case-control study.
The data of patients who underwent radiotherapy for head and neck cancer and who later required total laryngectomy or TSLC for chronic aspiration between 2004 and 2017 were retrieved from a dysphagia clinic. Preoperative and postoperative voice and speech were assessed by the GRBAS and INFVo rating scales. Control subjects who underwent radiotherapy alone or total laryngectomy with a tracheoesophageal prosthesis for other indications were recruited for comparison.
Of 15 patients who underwent a TSLC with a mean age of 57.3 years (45-75 years), 13 were male and 2 female. All patients had a history of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The success rate of speech production using their own larynx following an intact TSLC was 64%. There was no statistically significant difference in voice and speech ratings between preoperative and TSLC subjects on the GRBAS (P = .32) and INFVo scales (P = .57), although the quality of voice appeared to deteriorate after TSLC. However, the INFVo scale for impression, intelligibility and unsteadiness of the voice after TSLC was statistically significantly better than for laryngectomy with tracheoesophageal speech.
A tubed supraglottic laryngeal closure controls chronic aspiration while preserving the larynx for phonation, and results in a better voice and speech quality than a laryngectomy with a voice prosthesis.

Severe alcoholic hepatitis (AH) is the most aggressive form of alcohol-related liver disease with high mortality. The microbiome is an emerging therapeutic target in alcohol-related liver disease.
To investigate the microbiome composition in patients with severe AH, and to determine microbiome recovery after rifaximin treatment in gut bacteria and bacteria derived-extracellular vesicles.
We enrolled 24 patients with severe AH and 24 healthy controls. Additional faecal samples were collected after 4weeks in 8 patients with severe AH who completed rifaximin treatment. Treatment response was defined based on Lille score model after 7days of treatment. Metagenomic profiling was performed using 16S ribosomal RNA amplicon sequencing.
Faecal microbiomes of patients with severe AH had lower alpha diversity and higher beta diversity than those of healthy controls in both gut bacteria and extracellular vesicles. Different studies have already shown their advantages as a model for different infectious diseases, including SARS-CoV-2 and for drug screening. The use of these 3D engineered tissues as an in vitro model can fill the gap between 2D cell culture and in vivo preclinical assays (animal models) as they could recapitulate the entire viral life cycle. The main objective of this review is to understand spheroid and organoid biology, highlighting their advantages and disadvantages, and how these scaffold-free engineered tissues can contribute to a better comprehension of viral infection by SARS-CoV-2 and to the development of in vitro high-throughput models for drug screening.

We discuss another recently proposed method similar to ours based on simultaneous CIs for the true performance. We show that our method provides uniformly shorter CIs for the same confidence level. No methodology is available to distinguish truly reduced myocardial flow reserve (MFR) in positron emission tomography myocardial perfusion imaging (PET MPI) from seemingly impaired MFR due to inadequate adenosine response. The adenosine-induced splenic switch-off (SSO) sign has been proposed as a potential marker for adequate adenosine response in cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR). We assessed the feasibility of detecting SSO in nitrogen-13 ammonia PET MPI using SSO in CMR as the standard of reference.
Fifty patients underwent simultaneous CMR and PET MPI on a hybrid PET/MR device with co-injection of a gadolinium-based contrast agent and nitrogen-13 ammonia during rest and adenosine-induced stress. In CMR, SSO was assessed visually (positive vs negative SSO) and quantitatively by calculating the ratio of the peak signal intensity of the spleen during stress over rest (SIR). In PET MPI, the splenic signal activity ratio (SAR) was calculated as the maximal standard uptake value of the spleen during stress over rest. The median SIR was significantly lower in patients with positive versus negative SSO in CMR (0.57 [IQR 0.49 to 0.62] vs 0.89 [IQR 0.76 to 0.98]; P < .001). Similarly, median SAR in PET MPI was significantly lower in patients with positive versus negative SSO (0.40 [IQR 0.32 to 0.45] vs 0.80 [IQR 0.47 to 0.98]; P < .001).

We assessed the diagnostic value of FDG PET/CT in a real-world cohort of patients with surgically managed infective endocarditis (IE).
We performed a retrospective analysis of all patients hospitalized in a tertiary IE referral medical center from January 2014 to October 2018 fulfilling the following criteria ICD-10 code for IE and OPS code for both, heart surgery and FDG PET/CT.
Final analysis included 29 patients, whereof 28 patients had surgically proven IE. FDG PET/CT scan was true-positive in 15 patients (sensitivity (SEN) 56%) and false-negative in 12 patients. Combination of Duke criteria (DC) with FDG PET/CT scan resulted in gain of SEN for all patients with confirmed IE (SEN of DC 79% vs SEN of combination DC and FDG PET/CT 89%), driven by a relevant gain in PVE patients only (SEN of DC 78% vs SEN of combination DC and FDG PET/CT 94%). Interestingly, higher prosthesis age was observed in patients with false-negative scans.

We used a randomized population-based survey on sexual and reproductive health and rights among ages 16-84 years, linked to nationwide registers. The sample consisted of 6048 men. With a logistic regression, we analyzed what sex life factors were associated with ever having paid for or given other types of compensation for sex. A total of 9.5% of male respondents reported ever having paid for sex. An increased probability of having paid for sex was identified in men who were dissatisfied with their sex life (aOR 1.72; 95% CI 1.34-2.22), men reporting having had less sex than they would have liked to (aOR 2.78; 95% CI 2.12-3.66), men who had ever looked for or met sex partners online (aOR 5.

Genetic vulnerability to coronary heart disease (CHD) is well established, but little is known whether these effects are mediated or modified by equally well-established social determinants of CHD. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/Rolipram.html We estimate the joint associations of the polygenetic risk score (PRS) for CHD and education on CHD events.
The data are from the 1992, 1997, 2002, 2007 and 2012 surveys of the population-based FINRISK Study including measures of social, behavioural and metabolic factors and genome-wide genotypes (N=26 203). Follow-up of fatal and non-fatal incident CHD events (N=2063) was based on nationwide registers.
Allowing for age, sex, study year, region of residence, study batch and principal components, those in the highest quartile of PRS for CHD had strongly increased risk of CHD events compared with the lowest quartile (HR=2.26; 95% CI 1.97 to 2.59); associations were also observed for low education (HR=1.58; 95% CI 1.32 to 1.89). These effects were largely independent of each other. Adjustment for baseline smoking, alcohol use, body mass index, igh-density lipoprotein (HDL) and total cholesterol, blood pressure and diabetes attenuated the PRS associations by 10% and the education associations by 50%. We do not find strong evidence of interactions between PRS and education.

COVID-19 mortality risk is associated with demographic and behavioural factors; furthermore, religious gatherings have been linked with the spread of COVID-19. We sought to understand the variation in risk of COVID-19-related death across religious groups in England and Wales both before and after the first national lockdown.
We conducted a retrospective cohort study of usual residents in England and Wales enumerated at the 2011 Census (n=47 873 294, estimated response rate 94%) for risk of death involving COVID-19 using linked death certificates. Cox regression models were estimated to compare risks between religious groups. Time-dependent coefficients were added to the model allowing HRs before and after lockdown period to be estimated separately.

The current US context is marked by extreme right-left partisanship, which means that state policies tend to bundle together and are not experienced in isolation. While prior work has leveraged abrupt shifts in single policies to examine the effects of state policy on birth outcomes, we examined a holistic measure that captures political polarisation.
Data were drawn from national birth certificates for 2003-2017 (N=56 770 470). Outcomes included preterm birth, low birth weight, small-for-gestational age and other perinatal health measures. The primary exposure was a composite index of right-left state policy orientation, generated from historical data on 135 state policies. Multivariable regressions were used to estimate the association between state policy orientation and each outcome, adjusting for relevant covariates.
Compared with infants born in states with right-leaning policy orientations, those born in left-leaning states had lower odds of adverse birth outcomes (eg, low birth weight OR 0.95 (0.93, 0.97), preterm birth OR 0.94 (0.92, 0.95)). Subgroup analyses revealed stronger associations for US-born and White mothers. With the inclusion of state fixed effects, left-leaning policy orientation was no longer associated with lower odds of adverse birth outcomes. Models were otherwise robust to alternative specifications.

However, it is unclear whether individuals with particular clusters of CVD risk factors are more strongly affected by loneliness and isolation. Genetic vulnerability to coronary heart disease (CHD) is well established, but little is known whether these effects are mediated or modified by equally well-established social determinants of CHD. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/Rolipram.html We estimate the joint associations of the polygenetic risk score (PRS) for CHD and education on CHD events. The data are from the 1992, 1997, 2002, 2007 and 2012 surveys of the population-based FINRISK Study including measures of social, behavioural and metabolic factors and genome-wide genotypes (N=26 203). Follow-up of fatal and non-fatal incident CHD events (N=2063) was based on nationwide registers. Allowing for age, sex, study year, region of residence, study batch and principal components, those in the highest quartile of PRS for CHD had strongly increased risk of CHD events compared with the lowest quartile (HR=2.26; 95% CI 1.97 to 2.59); associations were also observed for low education (HR=1.58; 95% CI 1.32 to 1.89). These effects were largely independent of each other. Adjustment for baseline smoking, alcohol use, body mass index, igh-density lipoprotein (HDL) and total cholesterol, blood pressure and diabetes attenuated the PRS associations by 10% and the education associations by 50%. We do not find strong evidence of interactions between PRS and education. PRS and education predict CHD events, and these associations are independent of each other. Queens of many social hymenoptera keep sperm alive within their specialized storage organ, the spermatheca, for years, defying the typical trade-off between lifespan and reproduction. However, whether honey bee (Apis mellifera) queens experience a trade-off between reproduction and immunity is unknown, and the biochemical processes underlying sperm viability are poorly understood. Here, we survey quality metrics and viral loads of honey bee queens from nine genetic sources. Queens rated as 'failed' by beekeepers had lower sperm viability, fewer sperm, and higher levels of sacbrood virus and black queen cell virus. Quantitative proteomics on N = 123 spermathecal fluid samples shows, after accounting for sperm count, health status, and apiary effects, five spermathecal fluid proteins significantly correlating with sperm viability odorant binding protein (OBP)14, lysozyme, serpin 88Ea, artichoke, and heat-shock protein (HSP)10. In this study, four different hydrostatic pressures (0, 30, 60, and 90 mmHg) were applied to batch CHO cells, and their cell growth/metabolism and IgG1 production were examined. Our results indicate that hydrostatic pressure can increase the maximum cell concentration by up to 50%. Moreover, overall IgG1 concentration on Day 5 showed that 30 mmHg pressure can increase IgG1 production by 26%. The percentage of non-disulphide-linked antibody aggregates had no significant change under pressure. Besides, no significant difference was observed between 30 mmHg and no pressure conditions in terms of cell clumping formation. Its presence at the regulatory sites of 20E-dependent genes correlates with observed interaction between the NELF-A subunit and the ecdysone receptor (EcR). The complete NELF complex is formed at the 20E-dependent promoters and participates in both their induced transcriptional response and maintenance of the uninduced state to keep them ready for the forthcoming transcription. NELF depletion causes a significant decrease in transcription induced by 20E, which is associated with the disruption of Pol II elongation complexes. The resulting patch-based prediction results are spatially combined to generate the final segmentation result for each WSI. Additionally, the spatially organized encoded feature map derived from small image patches is used to compress the gigapixel whole-slide images. Abnormal decision making can result in detrimental outcomes of clinical importance, and decision making is strongly linked to neural prediction error signalling. Activation likelihood estimation (ALE) meta-analyses were used to examine the neural correlates of prediction error signals of individuals taking different types of substances and healthy controls with contrast and conjunction analyses. Twenty-eight studies were included in the meta-analysis, representing 424 substance users' individuals and 834 healthy control individuals. Robust brain activity associated with prediction error signals in substance users was found for the bilateral striatum and insula. Healthy control subjects also activated bilateral striatum, midbrain, right insula and right medial-inferior frontal gyrus. Compared with healthy controls, substance users showed blunted activity in the bilateral putamen, right medial-inferior frontal gyrus and insula. The current meta-analysis of cross-sectional findings investigated neural prediction error signals in substance users. EIF2AK2 sequencing in 191 unrelated patients with unexplained dystonia yielded 2 unrelated Caucasian patients with an identical heterozygous c.388G>A, p.Gly130Arg variant, occurring de novo in one case, another patient carrying a different heterozygous variant, c.413G>C, p.Gly138Ala, and one last patient, born from consanguineous parents, carrying a third, homozygous variant c.95A>C, p.Asn32Thr. These 3 missense variants are absent from gnomAD, and are loc85-497.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is associated with elevation of many cytokines particularly IL-6; however, the role of IL-6 in NAFLD remains obscure. The aim of this study was to examine how myeloid-specific IL-6 signaling affects NAFLD via the regulation of anti-fibrotic microRNA-223 in myeloid cells.
Patients with NAFLD or nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and healthy controls were recruited, and serum IL-6 and soluble IL-6 receptor α (sIL-6Rα) were measured. Compared to controls, serum IL-6 and sIL-6Rα levels were elevated in NAFLD/NASH patients. IL-6 levels correlated positively with the number of circulating leukocytes and monocytes. Abnormal decision making can result in detrimental outcomes of clinical importance, and decision making is strongly linked to neural prediction error signalling. Activation likelihood estimation (ALE) meta-analyses were used to examine the neural correlates of prediction error signals of individuals taking different types of substances and healthy controls with contrast and conjunction analyses. Twenty-eight studies were included in the meta-analysis, representing 424 substance users' individuals and 834 healthy control individuals. Robust brain activity associated with prediction error signals in substance users was found for the bilateral striatum and insula. Healthy control subjects also activated bilateral striatum, midbrain, right insula and right medial-inferior frontal gyrus. Compared with healthy controls, substance users showed blunted activity in the bilateral putamen, right medial-inferior frontal gyrus and insula. The dye uptake of the treated fabric was improved from 22.7% to 96.4% at 1% o.w.f. dye concentration. By a second chitosan layer cured on the dyed fabric via the cross-linking method, the wash fastness of the cotton fabric dyed with SCC can be improved from 3 to 5 (ISO 105 C-06). This is a second generation prototype for pain detection, quantification, and modeling, with the objective to be used in fully anesthetized patients undergoing surgery. The 2D and 3D time-frequency, multi-frequency evaluation of impedance data is based on broadly available signal processing tools. Furthermore, fractional-order impedance models are implied to provide an indication of change in tissue dynamics correlated with absence/presence of nociceptor stimulation. The unique features of the proposed sensor enhancements are described and illustrated here based on mechanical and thermal tests and further reinforced with previous studies from our first generation prototype.Although the invention of right heart catheterisation in the 1950s enabled accurate clinical diagnosis of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), it was not until 2000 when the landmark discovery of the causative role of bone morphogenetic protein receptor type II (BMPR2) mutations shed new light on the pathogenesis of PAH. Since then several genes have been discovered, which now account for around 25% of cases with the clinical diagnosis of idiopathic PAH. Despite the ongoing efforts, in the majority of patients the cause of the disease remains elusive, a phenomenon often referred to as "missing heritability". In this review, we discuss research approaches to uncover the genetic architecture of PAH starting with forward phenotyping, which in a research setting should focus on stable intermediate phenotypes, forward and reverse genetics, and finally reverse phenotyping. We then discuss potential sources of "missing heritability" and how functional genomics and multi-omics methods are employed to tackle this problem.

The primary goal to achieve cure in oncology is to reduce recurrence, maximize disease-free survival, maintain function, and optimize quality of life. Surgery remains the mainstay treatment modality in rectal cancer. The current trend is to perform least invasive method of doing complex surgeries while not compromising in the oncological of functional outcomes of patients. Total mesorectal excision (TME) for rectal cancer surgery entails removal of the rectum with its fascia as an intact unit while preserving surrounding vital structures. The procedure is technically challenging because of the narrow and deep pelvic cavity housing the rectum encased by fatty lymph vascular tissue within the perirectal fascia, distally the anal sphincter complex, and an intimate surrounded by vital structures like ureter, vessels, and nerves. Robotic technology enables overcoming these difficulties caused by complex pelvic anatomy. This system can facilitate better preservation of the pelvic autonomic nerve and thereby achieve favorable postoperative sexual and voiding functions after rectal cancer surgery. The nerve-preserving TME technique includes identification and preservation of the superior hypogastric plexus nerve, bilateral hypogastric nerves, pelvic plexus, and neurovascular bundles.Robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery is yet another modification of minimally invasive liver surgery. It is described as feasible and safe from the surgical point of view; however, oncological outcomes need to be adequately analysed to justify the use of this technique when resecting malignant liver tumours. We reviewed existing English medical literature on robot-assisted laparoscopic liver surgery. We analysed surgical outcomes and oncological outcomes. We analysed operative parameters including operative time, type of hepatectomy, blood loss, conversion rate, morbidity and mortality rates and length of stay. We also analysed oncological outcomes including completeness of resection (R status), recurrence, survival and follow-up data. A total of 582 patients undergoing robot-assisted laparoscopic liver surgery were analysed from 17 eligible publications. Only 5 publications reported survival data. The overall morbidity was 19% with 0.2% reported mortality. R0 resection was achieved in 96% of patients. Robotic liver surgery is feasible and safe with acceptable morbidity and oncological outcomes including resection margins. However, well-designed trials are required to provide evidence in terms of survival and disease-free intervals when performed for malignancy.Surgical techniques have evolved over the past few decades, and minimally invasive surgery has been rapidly adapted to become a preferred operative approach for treating colorectal diseases. The annual and lifetime incidence of dog bite was 3.3% and 22.3%, respectively. Based on the comparable figures from studies in general population, Dog-bite seems to be an occupational hazard among these workers. Only 28.9% completed the full course of anti-rabies vaccine with its cost as the major reason for discontinuation. More than 90% consulted traditional healers and wound toilet was done by 70%. The overall knowledge and practices seemed better than those reported in other studies, but continued orientation of the field workers and access to free vaccination at the workplace is of paramount importance.
Sanitary workers have higher tendency to develop hypertension as they spend most of their time in polluted or stressful environments. Hence, the current study was done to determine the prevalence, awareness and control of hypertension among sanitary workers in tertiary care centre in Puducherry.
A cross sectional study was conducted among the sanitary workers in tertiary care centre from May to December 2019. Socio-demographic, work related and behavioural characteristics was obtained using a pretested semi-structured questionnaire. Individuals was diagnosed as hypertensive if systolic BP ≥140 mmHg and/or diastolic BP ≥90 mmHg.
Prevalence of hypertension among the sanitary workers was 36.6% (95% CI 31.3-41.3%). Amongst them, only 34 (29.8%) participants were aware of their hypertension status. Prehypertension was present in 114 out of 277 participants (41.1%; 95% CI 35.3-47.2%) without any history of hypertension. Among the 34 patients with known hypertension, only 12 (35.3%) had controlled BP. Workers in age group of 40 years (aPR = 1.22), unmarried workers (aPR-1.65), obese workers (aPR-1.25), current tobacco users (aPR-1.61) and alcohol users (aPR-1.25) had significantly higher association with hypertension.

It is described as feasible and safe from the surgical point of view; however, oncological outcomes need to be adequately analysed to justify the use of this technique when resecting malignant liver tumours. We reviewed existing English medical literature on robot-assisted laparoscopic liver surgery. We analysed surgical outcomes and oncological outcomes. We analysed operative parameters including operative time, type of hepatectomy, blood loss, conversion rate, morbidity and mortality rates and length of stay. We also analysed oncological outcomes including completeness of resection (R status), recurrence, survival and follow-up data. A total of 582 patients undergoing robot-assisted laparoscopic liver surgery were analysed from 17 eligible publications. Only 5 publications reported survival data. The overall morbidity was 19% with 0.2% reported mortality. R0 resection was achieved in 96% of patients. Robotic liver surgery is feasible and safe with acceptable morbidity and oncological outcomes including resection margins. However, well-designed trials are required to provide evidence in terms of survival and disease-free intervals when performed for malignancy.Surgical techniques have evolved over the past few decades, and minimally invasive surgery has been rapidly adapted to become a preferred operative approach for treating colorectal diseases. The annual and lifetime incidence of dog bite was 3.3% and 22.3%, respectively. Based on the comparable figures from studies in general population, Dog-bite seems to be an occupational hazard among these workers. Only 28.9% completed the full course of anti-rabies vaccine with its cost as the major reason for discontinuation. More than 90% consulted traditional healers and wound toilet was done by 70%. The overall knowledge and practices seemed better than those reported in other studies, but continued orientation of the field workers and access to free vaccination at the workplace is of paramount importance. Sanitary workers have higher tendency to develop hypertension as they spend most of their time in polluted or stressful environments. Hence, the current study was done to determine the prevalence, awareness and control of hypertension among sanitary workers in tertiary care centre in Puducherry. A cross sectional study was conducted among the sanitary workers in tertiary care centre from May to December 2019. Socio-demographic, work related and behavioural characteristics was obtained using a pretested semi-structured questionnaire. Individuals was diagnosed as hypertensive if systolic BP ≥140 mmHg and/or diastolic BP ≥90 mmHg. Prevalence of hypertension among the sanitary workers was 36.6% (95% CI 31.3-41.3%). Amongst them, only 34 (29.8%) participants were aware of their hypertension status. Prehypertension was present in 114 out of 277 participants (41.1%; 95% CI 35.3-47.2%) without any history of hypertension. Among the 34 patients with known hypertension, only 12 (35.3%) had controlled BP. Workers in age group of 40 years (aPR = 1.22), unmarried workers (aPR-1.65), obese workers (aPR-1.25), current tobacco users (aPR-1.61) and alcohol users (aPR-1.25) had significantly higher association with hypertension. Current study found that more than one-third of the sanitary workers had hypertension. However, almost three fourth of the hypertensives were not aware about their status and only one-third of the known hypertension cases had controlled BP. Hence, it is important to conduct periodic screening and awareness sessions about the possible risk factors for better prevention and control of hypertension. Quorum sensing (QS) is a ubiquitous cell-cell communication mechanism in microbes that coordinates population-level cell behaviors, such as biofilm production, virulence, swarming motility, and bacterial persistence. Efforts to engineer QS systems to take part in metabolic network regulation represent a promising strategy for synthetic biology and pathway engineering. Recently, design, construction, and implementation of QS circuits for programmed control of bacterial phenotypes and metabolic pathways have gained **** attention, but have not been reviewed recently. In this article, the architectural organizations and genetic contributions of the naturally occurring QS components to understand the mechanisms are summarized. Then, the most recent progress in application of QS toolkits to develop synthetic networks for novel cell behaviors creation and metabolic pathway engineering is highlighted. The current challenges in large-scale application of these QS circuits in synthetic biology and metabolic engineering fields are discussed and future perspectives for further engineering efforts are provided. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. OBJECTIVES To determine the epitope of TC 3AP and then to localize the C-terminal cleavage site of α2AP. METHODS For epitope mapping of TC 3AP, commercially available plasma purified α2AP was enzymatically digested with Asp-N, Glu-C, or Lys-N. The resulting peptides were immunoprecipitated using TC 3AP-loaded Dynabeads® Protein G. Bound peptides were eluted and analyzed by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectometry (LC-MS/MS). To localize the C-terminal cleavage site precisely, α2AP (intact and NPB) was purified from plasma and analyzed by LC-MS/MS after enzymatic digestion with Arg-C. RESULTS We localized the epitope of TC 3AP between amino acid residues Asp428 and Gly439. The blood flow rate and CD31 level were significantly restored at 12, 24 hr and 7 days post-IR. The primary outcome was myocardial salvage index (MSI) on CMR 6 months after the event. Secondary outcomes were absolute infarct size, left ventricular function, cardiac mortality, major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events (MACCE-composite of all-cause mortality, myocardial infarction, readmission for heart failure, ischemic stroke, and target lesion revascularization) and all the individual components of MACCE.

Energy consumption is a critical issue in resource-constrained wireless neural recording applications with limited data bandwidth. Compressed sensing (CS) has emerged as a powerful framework in addressing this issue owing to its highly efficient data compression procedure. In this paper, a CS-based approach termed Simultaneous Analysis Non-Convex Optimization (SANCO) is proposed for large-scale, multi-channel local field potentials (LFPs) recording.
The SANCO method consists of three parts (1) the analysis model is adopted to reinforce sparsity of the multi-channel LFPs, therefore overcoming the drawbacks of conventional synthesis models. (2) An optimal continuous order difference matrix is constructed as the analysis operator, enhancing the recovery performance while saving both computational resources and data storage space. (3) A non-convex optimizer that can by efficiently solved with alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) is developed for multi-channel LFPs reconstruction.
Experimental results on real datasets reveal that the proposed approach outperforms state-of-the-art CS methods in terms of both recovery quality and computational efficiency.

The Al2O3 coated G/Si anode delivers an initial discharge capacity of 540 mAh g-1 at 25 °C and has improved Coulombic efficiency and cycling stability. After 100 cycles, the capacity retention is 76.4%, **** higher than the 56.4% of the uncoated anode. Furthermore, the Al2O3 coating was found to be more effective at improving the stability of G/Si at a higher temperature (55 °C). This was explained by the Al2O3 coating suppressing the growth of SEI on Si/G and thus reducing the charge transfer resistance at the G/Si-electrolyte interface. It is expected that the Al2O3 coating prepared by the sol-gel process can be applied to other Si-based anodes in the manufacture of practical high-performance lithium-ion batteries.
Computational models of neural activity at the meso-scale suggest the involvement of discrete oscillatory bursts as constructs of cognitive processing during behavioral tasks. Classical signal processing techniques that attempt to infer neural correlates of behavior from meso-scale activity employ spectral representations of the signal, exploiting power spectral density techniques and time - frequency energy distributions to capture band power features. However, such analyses demand more specialized methods that incorporate explicitly the concepts of neurophysiological signal generation and time resolution in the tens of milliseconds. This paper focuses on working memory (WM), a complex cognitive process involved in encoding, storing and retrieving sensory information, which has been shown to be characterized by oscillatory bursts in the beta and gamma band. Employing a generative model for oscillatory dynamics, we present a Marked Point Process (MPP) representation of bursts during memory creation and reademployed time - frequency methods. Finally, our results underscore the novelty in interpreting oscillatory dynamics encompassed by the marked features of the point process.

Nevertheless, T-cell therapy is limited by low cell expansion efficiency ex vivo and functional deficits. Here we describe two 3D bioprinting systems made by different biomaterials that mimic the in vivo formation of natural lymph vessels and lymph nodes which modulate T-cell with distinct fates and functions. We observe that coaxial alginate fibers promote T-cell expansion, less exhausted and enable CD4+ T-cell differentiation into central memory-like phenotype (Tcm), CD8+ T-cells differentiation into effector memory subsets (Tem), while alginate-gelatin scaffolds bring T-cells into a relatively resting state. Both of the two bioprinting methods are strikingly different from a standard suspension system. The former bioprinting method yields a new system for T-cell therapy and the latter method can be useful for making an immune-chip to elucidate links between immune response and disease.We describe a radiation therapy treatment plan optimization method that explicitly considers the effects of interfraction organ motion through optimization on the clinical target volume (CTV), and investigate how it compares to conventional planning using a planning target volume (PTV). The method uses simulated treatment courses generated using patient images created by a deformable registration algorithm to replicate the effects of interfraction organ motion, and performs robust optimization aiming to achieve CTV coverage under all simulated treatment courses. The method was applied to photon-mediated treatments of three prostate cases and compared to conventional, PTV-based planning with margins selected to achieve similar CTV coverage as the robustly optimized plans. Clinical goals for the CTV and healthy tissue were used in comparison between the two types of plans. Out of the two clinical goals for overdosage of the CTV, the three robustly optimized plans violated respectively 2, 2, and 0 goals in the mean over the scenarios, whereas none of the PTV plans violated these goals.

This paper focuses on working memory (WM), a complex cognitive process involved in encoding, storing and retrieving sensory information, which has been shown to be characterized by oscillatory bursts in the beta and gamma band. Employing a generative model for oscillatory dynamics, we present a Marked Point Process (MPP) representation of bursts during memory creation and reademployed time - frequency methods. Finally, our results underscore the novelty in interpreting oscillatory dynamics encompassed by the marked features of the point process. Nevertheless, T-cell therapy is limited by low cell expansion efficiency ex vivo and functional deficits. Here we describe two 3D bioprinting systems made by different biomaterials that mimic the in vivo formation of natural lymph vessels and lymph nodes which modulate T-cell with distinct fates and functions. We observe that coaxial alginate fibers promote T-cell expansion, less exhausted and enable CD4+ T-cell differentiation into central memory-like phenotype (Tcm), CD8+ T-cells differentiation into effector memory subsets (Tem), while alginate-gelatin scaffolds bring T-cells into a relatively resting state. Both of the two bioprinting methods are strikingly different from a standard suspension system. The former bioprinting method yields a new system for T-cell therapy and the latter method can be useful for making an immune-chip to elucidate links between immune response and disease.We describe a radiation therapy treatment plan optimization method that explicitly considers the effects of interfraction organ motion through optimization on the clinical target volume (CTV), and investigate how it compares to conventional planning using a planning target volume (PTV). The method uses simulated treatment courses generated using patient images created by a deformable registration algorithm to replicate the effects of interfraction organ motion, and performs robust optimization aiming to achieve CTV coverage under all simulated treatment courses. The method was applied to photon-mediated treatments of three prostate cases and compared to conventional, PTV-based planning with margins selected to achieve similar CTV coverage as the robustly optimized plans. Clinical goals for the CTV and healthy tissue were used in comparison between the two types of plans.
