  • This study examines the relationship beween employment and psychosocial working conditions and well-being of native and migrant workers in the working population of Spain. Data from the 7th Spanish Survey of Working Conditions was used to conduct a confirmatory factor analysis (n = 8508) to identify the main latent variables that influenced well-being. Using structural equation modeling and multivariate analysis, we found different patterns and perceptions of well-being and working conditions in these two groups. This work reports on the development of one such shield based on vulcanized rubber foams. Nanocomposites of ethylene-propylene-diene monomer (EPDM) rubber and multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were prepared via hot compression molding using a chemical blowing agent as foaming agent. MWCNTs accelerated the cure and led to high shear-thinning behavior, indicative of the formation of a 3D interconnected physical network. Foamed nanocomposites exhibited lower electrical percolation threshold than their solid counterparts. Above percolation, foamed nanocomposites displayed EMI absorption values of 28-45 dB in the frequency range of the X-band. The total EMI shielding efficiency of the foams was insignificantly affected by repeated bending with high recovery behavior. The phylogenetic position of lupins in Papilionoideae and their evolutionary distance to other higher plants facilitates the use of this model species to improve our knowledge on genes involved in nitrogen assimilation and primary metabolism, providing novel contributions to our understanding of the evolutionary history of legumes. In this study, we present a complex characterization of two narrow-leafed lupin gene families-glutamine synthetase (GS) and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPC). We combine a comparative analysis of gene structures and a synteny-based approach with phylogenetic reconstruction and reconciliation of the gene family and species history in order to examine events underlying the extant diversity of both families. Employing the available evidence, we show the impact of duplications on the initial complement of the analyzed gene families within the genistoid clade and posit that the function of duplicates has been largely retained. Methods 1000 individuals who meet current diagnostic criteria for bulimia nervosa or binge-eating disorder are being recruited to collect saliva samples for genotyping, fecal sampling for microbiota characterization, and recording of 30 days of passive data and behavioral phenotyping related to eating disorders using the app Recovery Record adapted for the Apple Watch. Discussion BEGIN examines the interplay of genomic, gut microbiota, and behavioral factors to explore etiology and develop predictors of risk, course of illness, and response to treatment in bulimia nervosa and binge-eating disorder. We will optimize the richness and longitudinal structure of deep passive and active phenotypic data to lay the foundation for a personalized precision medicine approach enabling just-in-time interventions that will allow individuals to disrupt eating disorder behaviors in real time before they occur. November 14, 2019, Retrospectively Registered.Background Mycoplasma pneumoniae (M. pneumoniae) is an important pathogen of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in children. The coinfection rate of M. pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP) can reach 52% in some areas, but the effects of coinfection with different pathogens have not been clearly recognized. Methods The cases of MPP hospitalized in Beijing Children's Hospital from 1/1/2014 to 12/31/2016 were screened. MPP patients coinfected with Human adenovirus (HAdV) were categorized into the research group. Patients with single M. pneumoniae infection were categorized into the control group, matching the research group by age and admission time with a ratio of 13. Clinical manifestations, laboratory examinations, and disease severity were compared between these two groups. Results A total of 2540 hospitalized MPP cases were screened in Beijing Children's Hospital, among which thirty cases were enrolled in the research group and ninety cases were enrolled in the control group. The results indicated that patients in the research group had longer hospital stays, longer fever durations and a higher rate of dyspnea, as well as a larger proportion applications of oxygen therapy and noninvasive continuous positive airway pressure (NCPAP). No obvious differences were found in lab examinations within the two groups. Regarding disease severity, the proportions of extremely severe pneumonia and severe disease defined by the clinical score system were higher in the research group than in the control group. Conclusion Compared with single M. pneumoniae infection, MPP coinfected with HAdV in children was relatively more serious.Background Antidepressants-induced movement disorders are rare and imperfectly known adverse drug reactions. The risk may differ between different antidepressants and antidepressants' classes. The objective of this study was to assess the putative association of each antidepressant and antidepressants' classes with movement disorders. Methods Using VigiBase®, the WHO Pharmacovigilance database, disproportionality of movement disorders' reporting was assessed among adverse drug reactions related to any antidepressant, from January 1967 to February 2017, through a case/non-case design. The association between nine subtypes of movement disorders (akathisia, bruxism, dystonia, myoclonus, parkinsonism, restless legs syndrome, tardive dyskinesia, tics, tremor) and antidepressants was estimated through the calculation first of crude Reporting Odds Ratio (ROR), then adjusted ROR on four potential confounding factors age, sex, drugs described as able to induce movement disorders, and drugs used to treat movement disoright other antidepressants. Conclusions A potential harmful association was found between movement disorders and use of the antidepressants mirtazapine, vortioxetine, amoxapine, phenelzine, tryptophan, fluvoxamine, citalopram, paroxetine, duloxetine, bupropion, clomipramine, escitalopram, fluoxetine, mianserin, sertraline, venlafaxine and vilazodone. Clinicians should beware of these adverse effects and monitor early warning signs carefully. However, this observational study must be interpreted as an exploratory analysis, and these results should be refined by future epidemiological studies.Background Jute (Corchorus spp.), belonging to the Malvaceae family, is an important natural fiber crop, second only to cotton, and a multipurpose economic crop. Corchorus capsularis L. is one of the only two commercially cultivated species of jute. Gene expression is spatiotemporal and is influenced by many factors. Therefore, to understand the molecular mechanisms of tissue development, it is necessary to study tissue-specific gene expression and regulation. We used weighted gene coexpression network analysis, to predict the functional roles of gene coexpression modules and individual genes, including those underlying the development of different tissue types. Although several transcriptome studies have been conducted on C. capsularis, there have not yet been any systematic and comprehensive transcriptome analyses for this species. Results There was significant variation in gene expression between plant tissues. Comparative transcriptome analysis and weighted gene coexpression network analysis were performeechanisms underlying the development of each tissue, and will promote multipurpose molecular breeding in jute and other fiber crops.Background 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) and capecitabine are fluoropyrimidine derivatives that mainly metabolized with dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase enzyme (DPD). The genetic polymorphism in the genes encoding this enzyme may result in a decrease or loss of enzyme activity which may lead to the accumulation of medicines, their metabolites and potential toxicity. Method This cross-sectional study was conducted on 88 participants with colorectal cancer (CRC). After DNA extraction, polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method was used to determine the DPD gene (DPYD) polymorphisms including IVS 14 + 1 G > A, 2846 A > T and 2194 G > A. Chemotherapy-induced side effects were evaluated according to the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE Version 5.0). Result Data were collected from 227 chemotherapy cycles of 88 patients with CRC. In a comparison of FOLFOX and FOLFIRI regimens, there was no significant difference in the occurrence of chemotherapy-induced diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and oral mucositis.

The Pearson correlation was 0.84, and the median (range) percent difference between the planimetry and single slice techniques was -0.5% (-39% to 57%). For the 39 partial nephrectomy patients, the median (range) total renal volume loss, 25.8cm3 (3-79), was significantly greater than the volume of healthy margin removed during resection, 5.7cm3 (1-22), p less then 0.001. CONCLUSIONS The healthy margin resected during partial nephrectomy varies widely and can be estimated from a single cross-section. The healthy margin resected accounted for less then 50% of the total volume loss seen during partial nephrectomy.In order to solve the problem of inaccuracy of using GC-QTOF-MS combined with NIST14 database in analyzing Ruta graveolens L. essential oil components, systematic isolation and characterization of chemicals from essential oil were carried on. Seventeen compounds which were 3 terpenoids, 8 lipid compounds, 3 alcohol compounds and 3 ketones were separated by preparative GC after dividing the essential oil into 5 groups of fractions by silica gel column. The chemical structures of isolated compounds were identified by GC-QTOF-MS and NMR. Three new in general compounds (50, 53 and 55) were isolated. And proton and carbon spectra of six compounds were provided for the first time. Through separation and structure identification of the compounds, qualitative analysis of total chemical components of the essential oil was increased from 42.0% to 90.3%. This research would be of great significance to application of Ruta graveolens L. essential oil.Background Preoperative assessment of patients is meaningful to predict survival in patients with malignant tumors. The prognostic nutritional index (PNI) is one of the most significant factors related to the prognosis in various types of cancer; however, its role in esophageal cancer is still inconclusive. We used a grounded, iterative approach consisting of multiple stages of analysis to identify emergent themes. Communication with patients, interactions with health leaders, and electronic communication via the MyChart patient portal and electronic health record system function as major contributors to PCP engagement. Findings extend role theory scholarship by identifying specific communicative phenomena that makes up engaging working conditions and add to the role communication research literature by drawing connections between engagement and social support. We offer ideas for practical interventions at the study health system and other, similar organizations that desire to improve provider engagement and well-being.Patient-provider communication is a critical component of healthcare and is associated with treatment quality and outcomes for women with breast cancer. Seventeen compounds which were 3 terpenoids, 8 lipid compounds, 3 alcohol compounds and 3 ketones were separated by preparative GC after dividing the essential oil into 5 groups of fractions by silica gel column. The chemical structures of isolated compounds were identified by GC-QTOF-MS and NMR. Three new in general compounds (50, 53 and 55) were isolated. And proton and carbon spectra of six compounds were provided for the first time. Through separation and structure identification of the compounds, qualitative analysis of total chemical components of the essential oil was increased from 42.0% to 90.3%.   • The results of FTIR, XRD and electroscopic analyses confirmed the synthesized hesperidin nanocomposites accomplish the properties of potent nanodrug and the MTT assay authentically confirmed that the synthesized hesperidin nanocomposite inhibited the HCT116 cell growth, and the results of fluorescent staining proved that the hesperidin nanocomposite induced the apoptotic mediated cell necrosis via promoting the expression of apoptotic proteins thereby induced the apoptosis in colon cancer (HCT116) cells. Hence, it was concluded that the, hesperidin loaded nanocomposites persuasively inhibited proliferation of colon carcinoma cell and induced apoptosis in in vitro condition. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is effective in the treatment of different types of cancer, such as basal cell carcinoma and other superficial cancers. However, improvements in photosensitizer delivery are still needed, and the use of PDT against more deeply located tumors has been the subject of many studies. The histological analysis of the lungs further confirmed the results verified by the microtomography. The endothelium could be a potential target of cancer cell derived extracellular vesicles (CaCe-dEV). We investigated in vitro the effect of CaCe-dEV on the hemostatic balance of endothelial cells. Extracellular vesicles released from pancreas adenocarcinoma cells (BXPC3) or human breast cancer cells (MCF7) were isolated by differential centrifugation. Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) were cultured for 72 h in the presence or absence of CaCe-dEV. Subsequently, they were washed and re-cultivated over three cycles to get daughter cell generations (DG) which were not exposed to CaCe-dEV. Thrombin generation of normal platelet poor plasma (PPP) added in wells carrying HUVEC was assessed by the Calibrated Automated Thrombogram®. Tissue factor activity (TFa) and procoagulant phospholipid clotting time were assessed. Some traces of TFa were displayed by non-exposed HUVEC (0.18 ± 0.03 pM) and their EVs (1.2 ± 1.0 pM). Non-exposed HUVEC did not induce any detectable thrombin generation. BXPC3-dEV displayed significantly higher TFa as compared to MCF7-dEV (45 ± 5 pM versus 4.6 ± 2.3pM respectively; p  less then  0.05). HUVEC exposed to CaCe-dEV enhanced thrombin generation. BXPC3-dEV induced significantly higher thrombin generation as compared to those exposed to MCF7-dEV. The procoagulant properties of HUVEC, acquired upon exposure to CaCe-dEV were transferred to DG. In conclusion, CaCe-dEV lead to a procoagulant shift of endothelial cells which, upon exposure, display TFa and enhance thrombin generation which is transferred to DG of HUVEC. The potency of CaCe-dEV to induce procoagulant shift of HUVEC depends on the histological type of the cancer cells. The procoagulant shift of endothelial cells which is transferable to DG could be an additional mechanism - together with cancer-induced blood hypercoagulability - in the pathogenesis of cancer associated thrombosis. Molecular Dynamics simulation was employed to study precipitate composition dependence on strengthening. Edge dislocation interaction with pure, 80at.%, and 60at.% Cr precipitates of different sizes in a matrix of Fe-15at.%Cr was investigated. The precipitates were found to be relatively hard. This is evident from the absence of shearing mechanism after the dislocation has bypassed them, the formation of an Orowan-like dislocation shape, and comparatively higher stress values. Precipitates with higher Cr content were found to greatly impede dislocation glide as indicated by the time taken by the dislocation to bypass them. The composition dependence on critical unpinning stress was also observed. The interaction of edge dislocation with precipitates having higher Cr composition leads to higher critical unpinning stress. The extent of critical unpinning stress dependence on precipitate composition is, however, not as high as was reported previously. Besides, the study has also confirmed the fact that α' precipitation results in the hardening of high Cr ferritic/martensitic steels. Infections caused by carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae are a growing concern worldwide. Raoultella ornithinolytica is a species in the Enterobacteriaceae family which can cause hospital-acquired infections and is sporadically reported as carbapenem-resistant from human and environmental sources. In this study, we firstly report on an NDM-1-producing R. ornithinolytica, Rao166, isolated from drinking water in an animal cultivation area in China. In addition to carbapenem-resistance, Rao166 was resistant to several other antibiotics including gentamicin, sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim, tetracycline and fosfomycin. Rao166 carried a novel IncFIC-type megaplasmid, 382,325 bp in length (pRAO166a). A multidrug resistance region, 60,600 bp in length, was identified in the plasmid containing an aac(3)-IId-like gene, aac(6')-Ib-cr, blaDHA-1, blaTEM-1B, blaCTX-M-3, blaOXA-1, blaNDM-1, qnrB4, catB3, arr-3, sul1, and tet(D). Results from virulence assays implied that Rao166 has considerable pathogenic potential. Although pRAO166a was found to be non-transmissible, dissemination of the NDM-1 producing strain may occur from well water to humans or animals through cross-contamination during food preparation or directly via drinking water, and potentially lead to difficult-to-treat infections.

Additionally, students reported they felt more comfortable clarifying questions during the study groups vs. during class time. Programming engagement through student pharmacist organizations is foundational to many schools' co-curriculum. Adequate funding, membership engagement, and governance structures are vital factors that, in turn, help these groups thrive over time. However, minimal literature exists depicting financial support, governance, and membership engagement for benchmarking purposes. The current study's objective was to examine these parameters at a national level among schools of pharmacy. METHODS Student affairs personnel identified through the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Student Services Special Interest Group received a link to an anonymous Qualtrics survey. Survey data comparing programs were analyzed descriptively and via t-test (continuous data) and Fisher's exact test (nominal data) using Graph Pad Prism 8. RESULTS Seventy-three schools completed the survey. The majority (53%) were public institutions. Limiting the number of organizations allowed on campus occurred at 39.7% of schools. Regarding formation/funding policies, 75% published policies for organization formation, and 53% published policies for financial support. Use of an "umbrella" format for governance was present in 36% of responding schools. The average number of organizations per school was 11, conducting an average of 10.4 chapter meetings/month. The percent of enrolled students on average belonging to a given organization ranged from 2.2% to over 40%. Ninety-three percent reported that organizations assist in the inculcation of professionalism among student pharmacists. CONCLUSIONS Pharmacy schools are inconsistent in their approach to student organization formation, funding policies, and governance. OBJECTIVE The decision to disable item review, or 'backward navigation,' during computerized-fixed item tests proved controversial among faculty at our institution. We sought to determine the effect of disabling backward navigation on performance of individual exam items and overall exam performance across multiple courses within a doctor of pharmacy program. METHODS Exam items that were administered unchanged and without error or adjustment of scoring between 2016 and 2017 were eligible for inclusion. Included items were evaluated for change in difficulty index, point biserial, and discrimination index for the year when backward navigation was enabled to the year after the function was disabled. Performance on matching exam pairs in each time frame was compared for any changes. RESULTS We screened 2033 items and identified 576 which met study inclusion criteria. There were no significant differences in overall item difficulty index, point biserial, discrimination index or performance of the 27% lowest-scoring students. There was a decrease of 0.95% for the highest-scoring students (z = -2.93, p = 0.003). We identified 15 pairs of exams that contained at least 30% identical items from 2016 to 2017. No difference was found in the percent score minimum, maximum, mean, median, or standard deviation. CONCLUSIONS Although there was a statistically significant decrease in item performance for students with the highest scores on the exam, we were unable to demonstrate that disabling backward navigation had a significant impact on overall item performance or exam results. INTRODUCTION This study sought to determine pharmacy students' self-assessment of their level of competency in specified global health statements across various schools. It also evaluated attributes associated with competency and perception of importance, as well as explored students' perspectives on how best to incorporate global health content into pharmacy education. METHODS Cross-sectional survey administered online to pharmacy students from three pharmacy schools in the United States. RESULTS The self-assessed competency of pharmacy students in global health topic areas was low. Current or prior exposures outside of the PharmD curriculum to the global health content presented in the survey were significant indicators of self-assessed competency scores. Within individual participating schools, demographic characteristics such as gender, age category, speaking a non-English language, and progression through the PharmD curriculum were also significantly associated with competency scores reported. Most respondents (96%) agreed that relevant global health education should be incorporated into the pharmacy curriculum. CONCLUSIONS Pharmacy students generally perceive global health competencies to be of great importance in practice, but acknowledge their deficiencies in this area. The current burden of global health education at the schools surveyed relies on individual student experience rather than curricular support. Ensuring that future pharmacists understand their role in global health teams and are able to achieve the necessary level of competency to function in interdisciplinary initiatives will require more strategic incorporation of relevant content into the curriculum. Programming engagement through student pharmacist organizations is foundational to many schools' co-curriculum. Adequate funding, membership engagement, and governance structures are vital factors that, in turn, help these groups thrive over time. However, minimal literature exists depicting financial support, governance, and membership engagement for benchmarking purposes. The current study's objective was to examine these parameters at a national level among schools of pharmacy. METHODS Student affairs personnel identified through the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Student Services Special Interest Group received a link to an anonymous Qualtrics survey. Survey data comparing programs were analyzed descriptively and via t-test (continuous data) and Fisher's exact test (nominal data) using Graph Pad Prism 8. RESULTS Seventy-three schools completed the survey. The majority (53%) were public institutions. Limiting the number of organizations allowed on campus occurred at 39.7% of schools. Regarding formation/funding policies, 75% published policies for organization formation, and 53% published policies for financial support. Use of an "umbrella" format for governance was present in 36% of responding schools. The average number of organizations per school was 11, conducting an average of 10.4 chapter meetings/month. The percent of enrolled students on average belonging to a given organization ranged from 2.2% to over 40%. Ninety-three percent reported that organizations assist in the inculcation of professionalism among student pharmacists. CONCLUSIONS Pharmacy schools are inconsistent in their approach to student organization formation, funding policies, and governance. OBJECTIVE The decision to disable item review, or 'backward navigation,' during computerized-fixed item tests proved controversial among faculty at our institution. We sought to determine the effect of disabling backward navigation on performance of individual exam items and overall exam performance across multiple courses within a doctor of pharmacy program. METHODS Exam items that were administered unchanged and without error or adjustment of scoring between 2016 and 2017 were eligible for inclusion. Included items were evaluated for change in difficulty index, point biserial, and discrimination index for the year when backward navigation was enabled to the year after the function was disabled. Performance on matching exam pairs in each time frame was compared for any changes. RESULTS We screened 2033 items and identified 576 which met study inclusion criteria. There were no significant differences in overall item difficulty index, point biserial, discrimination index or performance of the 27% lowest-scoring students. There was a decrease of 0.95% for the highest-scoring students (z = -2.93, p = 0.003). We identified 15 pairs of exams that contained at least 30% identical items from 2016 to 2017. No difference was found in the percent score minimum, maximum, mean, median, or standard deviation. CONCLUSIONS Although there was a statistically significant decrease in item performance for students with the highest scores on the exam, we were unable to demonstrate that disabling backward navigation had a significant impact on overall item performance or exam results. INTRODUCTION This study sought to determine pharmacy students' self-assessment of their level of competency in specified global health statements across various schools. It also evaluated attributes associated with competency and perception of importance, as well as explored students' perspectives on how best to incorporate global health content into pharmacy education. METHODS Cross-sectional survey administered online to pharmacy students from three pharmacy schools in the United States. RESULTS The self-assessed competency of pharmacy students in global health topic areas was low. Current or prior exposures outside of the PharmD curriculum to the global health content presented in the survey were significant indicators of self-assessed competency scores. Within individual participating schools, demographic characteristics such as gender, age category, speaking a non-English language, and progression through the PharmD curriculum were also significantly associated with competency scores reported. Most respondents (96%) agreed that relevant global health education should be incorporated into the pharmacy curriculum. CONCLUSIONS Pharmacy students generally perceive global health competencies to be of great importance in practice, but acknowledge their deficiencies in this area. The current burden of global health education at the schools surveyed relies on individual student experience rather than curricular support. Ensuring that future pharmacists understand their role in global health teams and are able to achieve the necessary level of competency to function in interdisciplinary initiatives will require more strategic incorporation of relevant content into the curriculum.   • Citrinin (CTN) is a secondary fungal metabolite produced by several species of Aspergillins and Penicillins, and it is widely found in vegetable-derived foods such as cereals and fermented rice-based food supplements. Previous studies indicated that CTN had immunotoxicity, hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, and reproductive toxicity, which caused severe effects on human and animal health. However, the potential toxicity of CTN on the organelles of mouse oocytes is still unclear. In this study, we showed that the exposure to 30 μM CTN significantly reduced the developmental capacity of mouse oocytes. Our results revealed that mitochondria exhibited abnormal distribution and mitochondrial membrane potential decreased under CTN exposure. And the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) failed to accumulate to the spindle periphery, which is accompanied by the occurrence of ER stress, showing with increased GRP78 expression. We also found that similar with ER, the Golgi apparatus showed homogenous localization pattern after CTN exposure, and the vesicle transport was disturbed, showing with aberrant expression and localization of Rab11a. Moreover, our results indicated that CTN exposure increased the expression of LAMP2, indicating the induction of lysosomal damage. In summary, our study showed that CTN exposure to mouse oocytes was toxic to the distribution and functions of organelles, which further led to a decrease of oocyte quality. The effect of ELF-MF on human health is still controversial, particularly as regards long-term health effects like cancer. The literature does suggest, however, that they could be involved in the occurrence of brain tumors, although results concerning residential exposure are scarce. Our objective was to investigate the association between residential proximity to power lines and brain tumors among adults in France by using a geographical information system.CERENAT is a population-based case-control study carried out in France in 2004-2006. We used geographical data sources on power line location to create exposure scores based on distance between residence and power lines, and on the number of lines near residences. Conditional logistic regression for matched sets was used to estimate Odds Ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (95%CI).We found significant associations between cumulated duration living at less then 50 m to high voltage lines and i) all brain tumors (OR 2.94; 95%CI 1.28-6.75); ii) glioma (OR 4.96; 95%CI 1.56-15.77). Further investigations are needed, particularly to improve the quality and availability of geographical and technical data on power lines. Antipyrine (ANT), as a widely used relieve headache, fever anti-inflammatory pharmaceutical in medical treatment, is difficult to be removed completely in water. The application of photocatalytic removal of ANT is restricted to UV light irradiation (43% of solar energy) induced photodegradation. Consequently, the as-prepared MWCNTs/BiOI photocatalysts presented superior photocatalytic activities on ANT degradation with respect to that of BiOI under 60 min visible light irradiation (100% vs 82.2%). Especially, the enhanced photocatalytic mechanism on ANT was analyzed by morphology, optical and photo-electrochemical properties. Results revealed that the designed 3D micro-mesoporous structure could promote the diffusion of photogenerated electron-hole pairs, and the utilization of photoelectrons could be efficiently improved by MWCNTs (1.5 times). Furthermore, based on radicals scavenging experiments, the photogenerated hole (h+) and superoxide radical (O2-) were demonstrated as the dominant active species in ANT photocatalytic oxidation process. The photodegradation pathways of ANT were proposed with the calculation of frontier electron densities (FEDs) and the analysis of LC-MS/MS. This study presents a feasible approach for the high efficiency removal of trace pharmaceuticals under visible light photocatalytic process. BACKGROUND Mounting evidence has demonstrated that air pollution exposure is associated with the increased prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). However, the long-term exposure effect and the time window of the maximum effect of these air pollutants on GDM and glucose homeostasis during pregnancy are unclear. METHODS We conducted this study on 5427 nondiabetic pregnant women who were admitted from three hospitals in Hefei City, China, between 2015 and 2018. The data regarding the average exposure to particulate matter (PM), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and ozone (O3) were estimated in a fixed monitoring station in Hefei. We used logistic regression and multiple linear regression to assess the effects of air pollutants on GDM and glucose homeostasis. RESULTS Of the 5427 participants, 1119 (20.6%) had GDM. We found prepregnancy exposure to air pollutants was associated with the risk of GDM in the single pollutant model [odds and 95% confidence interval (CI) of GDM for an interquartile range (IQR) increasee 2-h 75-g oral glucose tolerance test were similar to the abovementioned results. CONCLUSIONS Prepregnancy long-term air pollution exposure was associated with a higher risk of developing GDM by affecting glucose metabolism. The time window of the maximum effect of PM on GDM and glucose metabolism indicators was observed earlier than that of SO2 and O3. The main objective of this work was to investigate the feasibility of using vacuum ultraviolet (VUV, 185 + 254 nm) and ultraviolet (UV, 254 nm) for the reduction of dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) and haloacetonitrile formation potential (HANFP) of surface water and treated effluent wastewater samples. The results showed that the reduction of dissolved organic carbon (DOC), DON, hydrophobicity (HPO), absorbance at 254 nm (UV254), and fluorescence excitation-emission matrix (FEEM) of both water samples by VUV was higher compared to using UV. The addition of H2O2 remarkably improved the performances of VUV and UV. VUV/H2O2 exhibited the highest removal efficiency for DOC and DON. Methods Data were collected from prospective databases at two high-volume institutions specialising in beyond TME surgery for locally advanced and recurrent pelvic malignancies between 1990 and 2015. The primary outcome measures were 1-year and 5-year OS. Results A total of 646 consecutive extended radical resections were performed between 1990 and 2015. The majority were female patients (371, 57.4%) and the median age was 63 years (range 19-89 years). One-year OS, primary rectal adenocarcinoma had the best survival while recurrent colon cancer had the worse survival (p = 0.047). The 5-year OS between primary and recurrent cancers were 64.7% and 53%, respectively (p = 0.004). Poor independent prognostic markers for 5-year OS were increasing ASA score, cardiovascular disease, recurrent cancers, ovarian cancers, pulmonary embolus and acute respiratory distress syndrome. A positive survival benefit was demonstrated with preoperative radiotherapy (HR 0.55; 95% CI 0.4-0.75, p less then 0.001). Conclusion Patient comorbidities and specific complications can influence long-term survival following extended radical resections. This study highlights important predictors, enabling clinicians to better inform patients of the potential short- and long-term outcomes in the management of locally advanced and recurrent pelvic malignancy.Introduction The necessity of mesh fixation in laparoscopic totally extraperitoneal (TEP) inguinal hernia repair remains controversial. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the effectiveness of mesh fixation versus no fixation in laparoscopic TEP repair for primary inguinal hernia. Materials and methods PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane databases were searched for relevant articles from January 1992 until May 2020. All trials that compared fixation versus no fixation in TEP repairs for inguinal herniae were included. Recurrent and femoral herniae were excluded from the current analysis. The primary outcome measure was recurrence while secondary outcomes included postoperative pain at 24 h, mean operative time, urinary retention, and seroma rates. Random effects models were used to calculate pooled effect size estimates. Sensitivity analyses were also carried out. Results Eight randomized controlled trials were included capturing 557 patients and 715 inguinal herniae. On random effects analysis, there were no significant differences between fixation and no fixation with respect to recurrence (RD 0.00, 95% CI = - 0.01 to 0.01, p = 1.00), operative time (MD 1.58 min, 95% CI = - 0.22 to 3.37, p = 0.09), seroma (OR = 0.70, 95% CI = 0.28 to 1.74, p = 0.44), or urinary retention (RD 0.09, 95% CI = - 0.18 to 0.36, p = 0.53). In urban-breeding birds, altered food availability for nestlings is thought to reduce reproductive success compared to forest populations. To compensate for shortages of preferred foods, urban parents could increase their search effort for optimal diets or provision other foods. Here, we used telemetry and faecal metabarcoding on blue **** from one urban and one forest populations to compare parental effort and comprehensively describe nestling diet. Urban parents travelled on average 30% further than those in the forest, likely to offset limited availability of high-quality nestling food (i.e. caterpillars) in cities. Metabarcoding, based on a mean number of 30 identified taxa per faeces, revealed that the diets of urban chicks were nonetheless substantially shifted to include alternative foods. We first compare the acoustic traits of larval feeding vibrations in ten species from six families of Lepidoptera and one family of Hymenoptera. We then test responses of Arabidopsis thaliana plants to variation among feeding vibrations of different individuals of one species, and to feeding vibrations of two species, including a pierid butterfly and a noctuid moth. All feeding vibrations consisted of repetitive pulses of vibration associated with leaf tissue removal, although chewing rates varied between species and between large and small individuals within species.

On random effects analysis, there were no significant differences between fixation and no fixation with respect to recurrence (RD 0.00, 95% CI = - 0.01 to 0.01, p = 1.00), operative time (MD 1.58 min, 95% CI = - 0.22 to 3.37, p = 0.09), seroma (OR = 0.70, 95% CI = 0.28 to 1.74, p = 0.44), or urinary retention (RD 0.09, 95% CI = - 0.18 to 0.36, p = 0.53). Here, we used telemetry and faecal metabarcoding on blue tits from one urban and one forest populations to compare parental effort and comprehensively describe nestling diet. Urban parents travelled on average 30% further than those in the forest, likely to offset limited availability of high-quality nestling food (i.e. caterpillars) in cities. Metabarcoding, based on a mean number of 30 identified taxa per faeces, revealed that the diets of urban chicks were nonetheless substantially shifted to include alternative foods. While in the forest caterpillars comprised 82 ± 11% of taxa provisioned to nestlings, in the city they constituted just 44 ± 10%. We then test responses of Arabidopsis thaliana plants to variation among feeding vibrations of different individuals of one species, and to feeding vibrations of two species, including a pierid butterfly and a noctuid moth. All feeding vibrations consisted of repetitive pulses of vibration associated with leaf tissue removal, although chewing rates varied between species and between large and small individuals within species.

  • We found that the concentrations of hormones in HPA axis, including corticotropin releasing hormone (CRH), adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and cortisol, were higher in exposed group than in reference group. Moreover, we also observed significantly higher concentrations of biomarkers of oxidative stress (OS), including malondialdehyde (MDA) and 8-isoprostane (8-I), in exposed group compared with reference group even though the e-waste industries have been shut down for over 2 years. The threshold value of the inhibitory concentration was obtained at a chemical oxygen demand (COD) of 4 g/L in batch AD. Three-dimensional electrolysis was adopted to improve the biodegradability of WVWW, and a reduction in the inhibitory rate from 38.2% to 4.9% and an increase in methane production by 53.8% were observed. The up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor achieved an efficient conversion of methane at an organic loading rate (OLR) of less then 8.58 g COD/L·d. However, the OLR of 10.01 g COD/L·d decreased the methane production from 350.6 to 42.5 mL CH4/g CODfed. Aminicenantales, Acetobacterium, Anaerolineae, and SBR1031 were the dominant bacterial genera in continuous AD. Fewer genera with similar classifications were detected in the batch AD. In the archaea community, acetotrophic methanogens (Methanosaeta) dominated and increased continuously with increasing OLR. Microbial analysis revealed that toxic substances affected bacterial diversity and promoted the enrichment of Intestinimonas, Syntropobacter, and Propionicimonas at high OLRs. After 60 days, the brackish water biofilm had half the nitrification capacity of the freshwater biofilm, with a less diverse microbial community, lower proportion of nitrifiers, and a significantly different nitrifying community composition. Nitrosomonas and Nitrosospira-like bacteria were the main ammonia oxidizers in the brackish water biofilms, whereas Nitrosomonas was dominant in freshwater biofilms. Nitrotoga was the dominant nitrite oxidizer in both treatments. Despite the lower nitrification capacity in the brackish water treatment, the low ammonia and nitrite concentration with rapidly increasing nitrate concentration indicated that complete nitrification was established in both reactors within 60 days. Adjusted logistic regression model was applied to evaluate the associations between the urinary TdGA levels and the risk of liver fibrosis. Results The study subjects living in the closer township had significant higher urinary TdGA levels than those living in the more distant township (269.6 ± 200.7 vs. 199.2 ± 164.7 μg/g creatinine) (p 1.29 (OR = 1.65; 95% CI 0.94, 2.90). Conclusion The residents living closer to the VCM/PVC plant in the petrochemical complex had higher urinary TdGA levels, which were associated with an increased risk of fibrosis. The obtained materials had the morphology of iron nanoparticles encapsulated within nitrogen and sulfur co-doped magnetic porous carbon with rich functional groups and large specific surface area, which made the materials have a good catalytic property. It was proved that the doping of nitrogen and sulfur is pivotal for improving the catalytic performance. The radical quenching experiment confirmed that sulfate radical (SO4-) and hydroxyl radical (OH) are two major reactive oxygen groups. The reaction had phenomenon of the free radicals upsurge in the early stage and the shortage in the later stage. Therefore, a mathematical model was put forward to represent the two-stage reaction kinetics.

  • A new species of the genus Wesmaelia Foerster, 1863, Wesmaelia longius sp. n. is described and illustrated from the Palaearctic Region of China. A key to the Chinese species of the genus Wesmaelia is provided based on the key of Papp (1995).Description of four new species Anthaxia (Merocratus) angustata Bílý, sp. nov. (Vietnam), A. (M.) priska Bílý, sp. nov. (Indonesia Kalimantan), A. (M.) violaceidorsis Bílý, sp. nov. (Indonesia Kalimantan), and A. (M.) lucifera Plachetka, sp. nov. (The Philippines). Two species-groups are defined within the subgenus A. (M.) insulaecola Obenberger, 1944 species-group and A. (M.) tricolor Kerremans, 1912 species-group. The sexual dimorphism of certain species is discussed and the distribution of some species are modified including new state records. All new species are illustrated and compared with the most related species.Myxia belinda gen. et sp. nov. is established for a new taxon of Cixiidae in the tribe Oecleini collected from palms in Costa Rica. The new taxon was discovered while surveying palms for potential phytoplasma vectors. Placement in a new genus is supported by a 1,383 bp sequence of 18S that differs by 2.77% from Haplaxius, 5.20% from Myndus taffini, and 2.80% from Nymphomyndus caribbea. Intrageneric variation for 18S was found to be approximately 0.5% to 0.6% within Haplaxius. Generic level differences within the Oecleini for COI ranged from 15% to 17% with the novel taxon differing by about 16% from other genera. The new genus is most similar in appearance to Haplaxius but possesses striking sexual dimorphism, and the aedeagus is only partially surrounded by the phallobase (versus entirely enveloped in Haplaxius). The discovery of a novel taxon of cixiid on palms that is similar to Haplaxius is important because of the role that Haplaxius crudus plays in phytoplasma transmission in palm agro- and natural ecosystems.Four new species of the eutheiine genus Veraphis Casey are described, all based on specimens collected in Japan V. loebli sp. n., V. mutsuensis sp. n., V. aomoriensis sp. n., and V. sakaii sp. n. Females have red markings on both the ventral and posterior dorsal surfaces of the abdomen, parallel spermathecae and three loops of the copulatory ducts. Males have an embolus with four loops and diagnostic white markings on the ventral surface of the abdomen that darken with age. Egg sacs are smooth, large, and bright purple when freshly laid, turning shiny grey with time. Latrodectus umbukwane n. sp. is known only from sand forest vegetation types in northern Zululand, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. A predicted geographic distribution for this species is provided based on cartographic mapping of known habitat and altitudinal preference, from which area of occupancy (AOO; 698 km2) and extent of occurrence (EOO; 4963 km2) were calculated to assess potential IUCN Red List status.

Using morphology and the COI barcoding gene we describe a new forest dwelling species, Latrodectus umbukwane n. sp. Wright, Wright, Lyle and Engelbrecht. Females have red markings on both the ventral and posterior dorsal surfaces of the abdomen, parallel spermathecae and three loops of the copulatory ducts. Males have an embolus with four loops and diagnostic white markings on the ventral surface of the abdomen that darken with age. Egg sacs are smooth, large, and bright purple when freshly laid, turning shiny grey with time. Latrodectus umbukwane n. sp. is known only from sand forest vegetation types in northern Zululand, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. A predicted geographic distribution for this species is provided based on cartographic mapping of known habitat and altitudinal preference, from which area of occupancy (AOO; 698 km2) and extent of occurrence (EOO; 4963 km2) were calculated to assess potential IUCN Red List status.

  • Viral receptors are the cell surface proteins that are hijacked by viruses to initialize their infections. Viral receptors are subject to two conflicting directional forces, namely negative selection due to functional constraints and positive selection due to host-virus arms races. It remains largely obscure whether negative pleiotropy limits the rate of adaptation in viral receptors. Here, we perform evolutionary analyses of 96 viral receptor genes in primates, and find that 41 out of 96 viral receptors experienced adaptive evolution. Many positively selected residues in viral receptors are located at the virus-receptor interfaces. Compared with control proteins, viral receptors exhibit significantly elevated rate of adaptation. Further analyses of genetic polymorphisms in human populations reveal signals of positive selection and balancing selection for 53 and 5 viral receptors, respectively. Moreover, we find that 49 viral receptors experienced different selection pressures in different human populations, nes in primates. We also found signals of past natural selection for 58 viral receptors in human populations. Interestingly, 49 viral receptors experienced different selection pressures in different human populations, indicating that viruses might represent an important driver of local adaptation in humans. In this paper we examine the effect of Y102 phosphorylation on HPV-31 E2 biology.Y102 proteins mutated either to the potential phospho-mimetic glutamic acid (Y102E) or to the non-phosphorylated homologue phenylalanine (Y102F) remain nuclear; however, Y102E is more associated with the nuclear matrix fraction. Interestingly, expression of the viral nucleoprotein (NP) alone is sufficient for generation of IBs, indicating that it plays an important role in IB formation during infection. In addition to NP, other components of the nucleocapsid localize to IBs, including VP35, VP24, VP30 and the RNA polymerase L. Previously we defined and solved the crystal structure of the C-terminal domain of NP (NP-Ct), but its role in virus replication remained unclear. Here we show that NP-Ct is necessary for IB formation when NP is expressed alone. Interestingly, we find that NP-Ct is also required for production of infectiouormation is the nucleoprotein, NP, which also is important in RNA encapsidation and synthesis. In this study, we have identified two domains of NP that control inclusion body formation. One of these, the central domain (CD), interacts with viral protein VP35 to control both inclusion body formation and RNA synthesis. The other is the NP C-terminal domain (NP-Ct), whose function has not previously been reported. These findings contribute to a model in which NP and its interactions with VP35 link the establishment of IBs to the synthesis of viral RNA.

  • RESULTS All the subjects demonstrated improvements of auditory abilities and speech intelligibility after CI surgery. The auditory ability developed quickly in 12 months after implantation. However, the speech intelligibility scores show rapid improvement within 24 months post implantation. Significant difference was found between group 1 and group 3, group 2 and group 3 before 12 months post-implantation for CAP and SIR. The three groups of children showed similar development pattern for their auditory abilities and speech intelligibility. CONCLUSION The results of this study suggested dramatic and continuous improvement of the auditory and speech abilities post implantation in these CI children. Furthermore, the age at implantation played a considerably smaller role in the improvement of hearing and speech abilities. However, earlier implantation still benefits the language development. INTRODUCTION Frailty screening can be performed with different tools and in multiple settings. Among the different evaluation systems, gait speed (GS) and Timed Up-and-Go (TUG) are postulated as simple and easy to apply systems. There are few data on the prevalence of frailty in intermediate care centre inpatients. MATERIAL AND METHODS Descriptive study to determine the applicability of GS and TUG as frailty screening tools in an intermediate care hospital, as well as an estimate of frailty prevalence at discharge. Frailty was considered when GS12seconds. The study included all patients attending the rehabilitation unit of the centre throughout 2015. RESULTS A total of 909 patients were included (mean age of 80.12 years). Only 205 (22.6%) were able to perform GS and TUG at discharge from the rehabilitation unit. Frailty prevalence for this group was between 89.8% (GS) and 92.2% (TUG), with no statistical differences between both tools (P=.25). CONCLUSIONS The applicability of GS and TUG for frailty screening in intermediate care hospitals is limited. Despite this, the results obtained suggest a high prevalence of frailty. More studies will be necessary to corroborate this data. OBJECTIVE Population ageing is a reality for which national health systems are not adapted. The World Health Organisation has already raised awareness about the implementation of specific measures, from undergraduate training to dedicated elderly care units, to tackle this situation. In this article, the aim is to analyse the potential benefits of geriatric monitoring on elderly neurosurgical patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS A descriptive analysis was performed in this medical centre, comparing the information collected from elderly patients (over 75 years of age) admitted into the neurosurgical department during 2periods June 2015 to February 2017, in which a shared geriatric monitoring was implemented, and between October 2013 and May 2015, equivalent period, in which only the geriatrician performed the evaluation of the patients' general condition, before referring them to other social-healthcare units. A number of factors were considered, including mean age, gender, the neurosurgical condition that led to a, reduces costs, and rationalises resources. BACKGROUND Middle school students are recommended as the primary target population for human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination. This study aimed to assess HPV and HPV vaccine knowledge, and to evaluate the effect of a school-based educational intervention, immediately and one year later, on HPV knowledge and vaccine acceptability among adolescents in mainland China. METHODS A school-based interventional follow-up study was conducted in seven representative cities in mainland China from May 2015 to May 2017. "Train-the-trainer" strategy was employed to educate school teachers in this study. Students aged 13 to 14 years old were assigned to intervention classes and control classes. All students were required to complete the baseline questionnaire. Students in the intervention classes were given a 45-minute lecture regarding HPV and HPV vaccine knowledge and were then asked to complete a post-education questionnaire. One year after the intervention, the knowledge of HPV and HPV vaccines was dramatically diminished. However, knowledge was significantly higher in intervention classes compared to control classes. CONCLUSIONS Knowledge and awareness of HPV and vaccination are generally deficient among Chinese adolescents. School-based health education was very effective in improving awareness and positive attitudes about HPV and HPV vaccines within a short time. Integrating health education on HPV into the existing school-based sexual health curriculum could be an effective way to increase HPV vaccination coverage and help to eliminate preventable HPV-associated cancers in China. BACKGROUND In Australia, a herpes zoster (HZ) vaccination program targeting adults aged 70 years old with catch-up for those 71-79 years began in November 2016 but there is limited information on vaccine uptake and coverage achieved since commencement. METHODS We used a national de-identified electronic primary care dataset, MedicineInsight, and extracted records from patients turning 50-90 years old during 2016-2018. Among patients considered regular attenders, with at least one visit per year in the two years prior, we estimated the crude and adjusted average monthly HZ vaccine uptake in the target population (70-79 years old) for each year since program implementation as well as cumulative vaccine coverage until December 2018. Multivariate logistic regression was used to analyse characteristics associated with higher coverage. RESULTS Among 52,229, 55,034, and 57,316 regular attenders turning 70-79 years old in 2016, 2017 and 2018 respectively, the average monthly vaccine uptake rate was 5.5%, 3.3%, and 1.
