  • Poststroke depression is a common stroke sequel, yet its neurobiological substrates are still unclear. We sought to determine whether specific lesion locations are associated with depressive symptoms after stroke.

    In a prospective study, 270 patients with first ever stroke were repeatedly tested with the depression subscale of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale within the first 4 weeks and 6 months after stroke. Voxel-based lesion behavior mapping based on clinical imaging was performed to test for associations between symptoms of depression and lesion locations.

    Frequency of poststroke depression (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale-D score >7) after 6 months was 19.6%. Higher Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale-D scores for depression within the first 4 weeks were the only independent predictor for poststroke depression after 6 months in a multiple logistic regression also including age, sex, lesion volume, stroke severity, Barthel-Index, and the anxiety subscale of the Hospital Anxiety symptoms 6 months poststroke. Lesions within the right hemisphere are unrelated to depressive symptoms. Recognition of left frontal lesions as a risk factor should help in the early diagnosis of poststroke depression through better risk stratification. The results are in line with evidence from functional imaging and noninvasive brain stimulation in patients without focal brain damage indicating that dysfunction in the left lateral prefrontal cortex contributes to depressive disorders.
    Whether intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) increases the risk for symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) in patients treated with mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is a matter of debate. Furthermore, the prevalence of cancer-related ESUS is expected to increase as patients with cancer, even those with distant metastases, survive longer due to improvements in cancer treatments. In this topical review, we examine the epidemiological link between ESUS and cancer, the clinical features and potential mechanistic underpinnings of ESUS with cancer (with a focus on novel biomarkers and their relationship to recurrent stroke and other thromboembolic events), and the potential treatment strategies for cancer-related ESUS. We include a critical appraisal of existing data and ongoing or planned clinical trials of different antithrombotic approaches. As cancer-related ESUS is a dynamic disease with variable course, we recommend close collaboration between neurologists and oncologists to develop individualized management plans.
    Endovascular aneurysm treatment relies on a biological process, including cell migration for thrombus organization and growth of a neointima. To better understand aneurysm healing, our study explores the origin of neointima-forming and thrombus-organizing cells in a rat saccular sidewall aneurysm model.

    Saccular aneurysms were transplanted onto the abdominal aorta of male Lewis rats and endovascularly treated with coils (n=28) or stents (n=26). In 34 cases, GFP+ (green fluorescent protein)-expressing vital aneurysms were sutured on wild-type rats, and in 23 cases, decellularized wild-type aneurysms were sutured on GFP+ rats. Follow-up at 3, 7, 14, 21, and 28 days evaluated aneurysms by fluorescence angiography, macroscopic inspection, and microscopy for healing and inflammation status. Furthermore, the origin of cells was tracked with fluorescence histology.

    In animals with successful functional healing, histological studies showed a gradually advancing thrombus organization over time characterized by pplete aneurysm healing after coil treatment and the improved healing rate in stent-assisted coiling.
    Neointima formation and thrombus organization are concurrent processes during aneurysm healing. Thrombus-organizing cells originate predominantly in the parent artery. Neointima formation relies more on cell migration from the aneurysm wall in coiled aneurysms but receives greater contributions from cells originating in the parent artery in stent-treated aneurysms. Cell migration, which allows for a continuous endothelial lining along the parent artery's lumen, may be a prerequisite for complete aneurysm healing after endovascular therapy. In terms of translation into clinical practice, these findings may explain the variability in achieving complete aneurysm healing after coil treatment and the improved healing rate in stent-assisted coiling.

The contribution of ****to total aerosol absorption (mean ± SD) was 46 ± 9%, 29 ± 7%, 24 ± 6%, 20 ± 4%, and 15 ± 3% at 370, 470, 520, 590, and 660 nm, respectively, highlighting the significant influence of ****absorption on the radiative imbalance over northern PSEA. Strong and significant associations between ****light absorption and biomass-burning (BB) organic tracers highlighted the influence of primary BB emissions. The median MACBrC and kBrC values at 370 nm were 2.4 m2 g-1 and 0.12, respectively. This work is the first study to apply a network of Doppler light detection and ranging (LiDAR) as well as **** trajectory analysis to comprehensively analyze the effect of a weak Typhoon (Danas) occurring during 16-19 July 2019 on different variations in PM and O3 concentration. During the typhoon Danas, three types of surface air pollution with five episodes were identified (1) low PM and high O3 concentration; (2) co-occurring high PM and O3 concentration and (3) high PM and low O3 concentration. Employing our 3D Real-Time Atmospheric Monitoring System (3DREAMs) along with surface observations, we found the important role of TAP in the increases in surface PM and O3 concentration with significant vertical wind shear that transported air pollutants at upper levels, and strong vertical mixing that brought air pollutants to the ground level. Cloud movement related to typhoon periphery, as well as high solar radiation due to sinking motion and remote transport by continental wind, have an impact on local O3 concentration. For the substantial difference in O3 concentration between two air quality measurement sites, the similar vertical aerosol distributions and wind profiles suggest the comparable TAP contributions at the two sites and thus infer the critical role of local O3 photochemical process in the O3 difference. This work comprehensively reveals the influences of a weak typhoon on variations in PM and O3 during the five episodes, providing important references for air quality monitoring and forecast in regions under the influence of typhoon.
    To examine muscle activity patterns of the lower limbs while ascending and descending stairs and slope in adults with knee Osteoarthritis (knee-OA), who were scheduled or not scheduled for Total Knee Replacement (TKR) and healthy controls.

    This cross-sectional study included three groups knee-OA subjects scheduled for TKR (TKR group; N=15) and not scheduled for TKR (NTKR group; N=15) and age-matched controls (N=11). Outcome measures included joint range of motion (ROM), Timed Up and Go (TUG), joint pain levels, and functional disability (Oxford) score. Also, durations of muscle activity (rectus femoris, semitendinosus, medial gastrocnemius, bilaterally, and soleus, and tibialis anterior of the OA limb) were recorded while the subjects ascended and descended stairs and a level surface.

    Both knee-OA groups had significantly higher Oxford scores and bilateral knee pain levels compared to the control group. The TKR group had higher TUG score compared to the NTKR group. The activation duration of the Tibialis Anterior of the OA limb while ascending and descending stairs and slope were higher in the TKR group compared to the NTKR group. No differences in muscle activity durations were found when comparing the OA limb to contralateral limb.

In this study, a series of 4-benzoylamino-1H-pyrazole-3-carboxamide derivatives were designed, synthesized, and evaluated. The most selective compound DC-K2in212 in this series exhibited high potency towards CDK2 and had effective anti-proliferative activity against A2058 melanoma cell line and MV4-11 leukemia cell line while exhibiting low toxic effect on human normal cell lines **** and LX2. The molecular modeling illustrated that compound DC-K2in212 had the similar binding mode with CDK2 as C-73, the most selective CDK2 inhibitor reported so far, which might account for selectivity against CDK2 over CDK1.   • om incremental survival and health-related quality-of-life benefits.Purpose To examine the epidemiologic and clinical characteristics of ocular injuries and their association with socioeconomic status (SES).Material and Methods All cases of ocular injuries hospitalized in Department of Ophthalmology of University Clinical Center Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina, from January 2009 to December 2012 and January 2017 and December 2019 were prospectively followed. The injuries were classified according to Ocular Trauma Classification System (OTCS) and Birmingham Eye Trauma Terminology (BETT).Results This study included a total of 420 eyes from 396 patients. There were 162 (38.57%; 95%CI 32.86-44.99) open globe injuries (OGI) and 258 (61.43%; 95%CI 54.16-69.4) closed globe injuries (CGI). The decrease in incidence of ocular trauma requiring hospitalization was noted from 16.7 per 100 000 (95%CI 13.11-20.97) in 2009 to 9.25 per 100 000 (95%CI 6.64-12.55) in 2019 (p=0.006). Most injuries occurred in males 341 (81.19%; 95%CI 72.8-90.28), active working patients 258 (61.43%, 95%CI54.16-69.4), and patients with rural residence 285 (67.86%; 95%CI 60.21-76.21). Almost all ocular injuries 418 (99.52%; 95%CI 90.21-109.54) occurred in patients with middle and lower SES categories, and home was the most prevalent place of injury in 258 (61.43%, 95%CI 54.16-69.4) patients. The total of 289 (70.49%; 95%CI 62.59-79.1) patients had good final best corrected visual acuity (BCVA). Poor final BCVA was associated with lower ocular trauma score (OTS) (p=0.000), poor initial BCVA (p=0.000), penetrating injuries of cornea (p=0.004) and sclera (p=0.001), Zone III injuries (p=0.000), intraocular foreign body presence (p=0.000), cataract (p=0.002), retinal detachment (p=0.001), endophthalmitis (p=0.000) and vitreous hemorrhage (p=0.010).Conclusion This study provides a detailed insight into epidemiology and socio-economic characteristics of patients hospitalized for ocular injuries.

    om incremental survival and health-related quality-of-life benefits.Purpose To examine the epidemiologic and clinical characteristics of ocular injuries and their association with socioeconomic status (SES).Material and Methods All cases of ocular injuries hospitalized in Department of Ophthalmology of University Clinical Center Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina, from January 2009 to December 2012 and January 2017 and December 2019 were prospectively followed. The injuries were classified according to Ocular Trauma Classification System (OTCS) and Birmingham Eye Trauma Terminology (BETT).Results This study included a total of 420 eyes from 396 patients. There were 162 (38.57%; 95%CI 32.86-44.99) open globe injuries (OGI) and 258 (61.43%; 95%CI 54.16-69.4) closed globe injuries (CGI). The decrease in incidence of ocular trauma requiring hospitalization was noted from 16.7 per 100 000 (95%CI 13.11-20.97) in 2009 to 9.25 per 100 000 (95%CI 6.64-12.55) in 2019 (p=0.006). Most injuries occurred in males 341 (81.19%; 95%CI 72.8-90.28), active working patients 258 (61.43%, 95%CI54.16-69.4), and patients with rural residence 285 (67.86%; 95%CI 60.21-76.21). Almost all ocular injuries 418 (99.52%; 95%CI 90.21-109.54) occurred in patients with middle and lower SES categories, and home was the most prevalent place of injury in 258 (61.43%, 95%CI 54.16-69.4) patients. The total of 289 (70.49%; 95%CI 62.59-79.1) patients had good final best corrected visual acuity (BCVA).   • In this report, we present a process for the fabrication and tapering of a silicon (Si) nanopillar (NP) array on a large Si surface area wafer (2-inch diameter) to provide enhanced light harvesting for Si solar cell application. From our N,N-dimethyl-formamide (DMF) solvent-controlled spin-coating method, silica nanosphere (SNS in 310 nm diameter) coating on the Si surface was demonstrated successfully with improved monolayer coverage (>95%) and uniformity. After combining this method with a reactive ion etching (RIE) technique, a high-density Si NP array was produced, and we revealed that controlled tapering of Si NPs could be achieved after introducing a two-step RIE process using (1) CHF3/Ar gases for SNS selective etching over Si and (2) Cl2 gas for Si vertical etching. From our experimental and computational study, we show that an effectively tapered Si NP (i.e., an Si nanotip (NT)) structure could offer a highly effective omnidirectional and broadband antireflection effect for high-efficiency Si solar cell application.Hypoxic tumors overexpress membrane-bound isozymes of carbonic anhydrase (CA) CA IX and CA XII, which play key roles in tumor pH homeostasis under hypoxia. Selective inhibition of these CA isozymes has the potential to generate pH imbalances that can lead to tumor cell death. Here, material properties of gelatin-based hydrogels obtained by reacting gelatin with varying amounts of lysine diisocyanate ethyl ester were correlated with the functional state of hydrogel contacting venous EC (HUVEC) and HUVEC's ability to form a monolayer on these hydrogels. The density of adherent HUVEC on the softest hydrogel at 37 °C (G' = 1.02 kPa, E = 1.1 ± 0.3 kPa) was significantly lower (125 mm-1) than on the stiffer hydrogels (920 mm-1; G' = 2.515 and 5.02 kPa, E = 4.8 ± 0.8 and 10.3 ± 1.2 kPa). This was accompanied by increased matrix metalloprotease activity (9 pmol·min-2 compared to 0.6 pmol·min-2) and stress fiber formation, while cell-to-cell contacts were comparable. Likewise, release of eicosanoids (e.g., prostacyclin release of 1.7 vs 0.2 pg·mL-1·cell-1) and the pro-inflammatory cytokine MCP-1 (8 vs less then 1.5 pg·mL-1·cell-1) was higher on the softer than on the stiffer hydrogels. Here, material properties of gelatin-based hydrogels obtained by reacting gelatin with varying amounts of lysine diisocyanate ethyl ester were correlated with the functional state of hydrogel contacting venous EC (HUVEC) and HUVEC's ability to form a monolayer on these hydrogels. The density of adherent HUVEC on the softest hydrogel at 37 °C (G' = 1.02 kPa, E = 1.1 ± 0.3 kPa) was significantly lower (125 mm-1) than on the stiffer hydrogels (920 mm-1; G' = 2.515 and 5.02 kPa, E = 4.8 ± 0.8 and 10.3 ± 1.2 kPa). This was accompanied by increased matrix metalloprotease activity (9 pmol·min-2 compared to 0.6 pmol·min-2) and stress fiber formation, while cell-to-cell contacts were comparable. Likewise, release of eicosanoids (e.g., prostacyclin release of 1.7 vs 0.2 pg·mL-1·cell-1) and the pro-inflammatory cytokine MCP-1 (8 vs less then 1.5 pg·mL-1·cell-1) was higher on the softer than on the stiffer hydrogels. In contrast to the widely accepted view that MPP+ is structurally unique and optimal for selective dopaminergic toxicity, previous in vitro studies have suggested that MPP+ is most likely a simple member of a large group of related dopaminergic toxins. Here we provide first in vivo evidence to support the above possibility using Caenorhabditis elegans PD models. We also provide in vivo evidence to show that the inherent predisposition of dopaminergic neurons to produce high oxidative stress and related downstream effects when exposed to MPP+ and related mitochondrial toxins is responsible for their selective vulnerability to these toxins. Here, we show that upon rapid depletion of NELF, RNA Pol II fails to be released into gene bodies, stopping instead around the +1 nucleosomal dyad-associated region. The transition to the 2nd pause region is independent of positive transcription elongation factor P-TEFb. During the heat shock response, RNA Pol II is rapidly released from pausing at heat shock-induced genes, while most genes are paused and transcriptionally downregulated. Both of these aspects of the heat shock response remain intact upon NELF loss. We find that NELF depletion results in global loss of cap-binding complex from chromatin without global reduction of nascent transcript 5' cap stability. Thus, our studies implicate NELF functioning in early elongation complexes distinct from RNA Pol II pause-release. In cooperation with the general surgeon conservative treatment for POI was administered, without effect. The abdomen remained distended, with no nausea or vomiting. On the 6th postoperative day a wound dehiscence with incomplete evisceration occurred, after a CT scan of the abdomen and pelvic region was requested to make a differential diagnosis between an intestinal mass and other pathology involving the bowell. In conjunction with the General Surgery team the surgical reintervention was decided and performed. After the procedure, the patient successfully regained transit, with flatus and stool emission, but another 2 complications occurred, which were successfully treated sepsis and deep vein thrombosis. Understanding the pathophysiology could help to prevent, diagnose, and implement protocols in order to avoid POI and its complications, to reduce hospital stay and cost burden.   • Melanocyte stem cells (McSCs) are key components of the hair follicle (HF) stem cell system that regenerate differentiated melanocytes during successive HF cycles. To facilitate continued research on melanocyte development and differentiation and McSCs, we backcrossed inducible Dct-H2BGFP **** into the C57BL/6J background (B6-Dct-H2BGFP). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/lgk-974.html We compared the expression pattern of B6-Dct-H2BGFP to that of Dct-H2BGFP **** on a mixed genetic background reported previously. Although there have been significant advances in anatomical science pedagogy, by reviewing learning and assessment in an apparently unrelated field, provides an opportunity to bring a different perspective and enable appropriate challenge of the current approaches in anatomy. Design learning has had to continually reimagine itself in response to the shifting landscape in design practice and the threats associated with technology and societal change. Design learning has also long used a student-centric active pedagogy and allied authentic assessment methods and, therefore, provides an ideal case study to help inform future changes required in anatomical learning and assessment.
    To understand the impact of storage temperature on recovery of Staphylococcus aureus on sampling swabs. Staphylococcus aureus is a common cause of skin and soft tissue infections, but also causes a variety of life-threatening diseases. With a large pool of asymptomatic carriers and transmission that can occur even through indirect contact, mitigation efforts have had limited success. Swab sampling, followed by culturing, is a cornerstone of epidemiological studies, however, S. aureus viability on swabs stored at different temperatures has not been characterized.

    We determined survival rates on swabs stored at five different temperatures. Samples stored at -70°C had no decay over time while samples stored at higher temperatures showed an exponential decay in viability. Mortality rates were greatest for swabs stored at 37°C. Survival at intermediate temperatures (-20 to 20·5°C) did not differ significantly, however, we observed more variation at higher temperatures.

A perception survey on how beekeepers perceive and manage factors related to climate change, Varroa infestation, management practices, and pesticide exposure was designed and launched online. This unpreceded sociological survey involved 355 beekeepers spread all over Belgium. A two-sample t test with unequal variances comparing beekeepers with colony loss rates below or exceeding the acceptable level, that is less then 10% and ≥10%, indicates that beekeepers (N = 213) with colony loss rates less then 10% generally have greater average levels of perceived risks and the benefits of action that lead to increased motivation to act in better ways. The results of this survey highlight the importance of looking beyond socio-economic determinants in any risk mitigation strategy associated with bee mortality when dealing with amateur beekeepers.
    Reports of mortality risks among individuals with GCA have been mixed. Our aim was to evaluate all-cause mortality among individuals with GCA relative to the general population over time.

    We performed a population-based study in Ontario, Canada, using health administrative data. We studied a cohort of 22,677 GCA patients aged ≥50 years identified using a validated case definition (with 81% positive predictive value, 100% specificity). General population comparators were residents aged ≥50 years without GCA. Deaths were ascertained from vital statistics. Annual crude, age/sex-standardized and age- and sex-specific all-cause mortality rates were determined for individuals with and without GCA between 2000 and 2018. Standardized mortality ratios (SMRs) were estimated.

    Age- and sex-standardized mortality rates were significantly higher for GCA patients than comparators, and trending to increase over time with 50.0 (95% confidence interval (CI) 34.0, 71.1) deaths per 1000 GCA patients in 2000 and 57.6 (95% CI 50.8, 65.2) deaths per 1000 in 2018, whereas mortality rates in the general population significantly declined over time. The annual SMRs for GCA patients generally increased over time with the lowest SMR occurring in 2002 (1.22; 95% CI 1.03, 1.40) and the highest in 2018 (1.92; 95% CI 1.81, 2.03). GCA mortality rates were more elevated for males than females.

Design learning has also long used a student-centric active pedagogy and allied authentic assessment methods and, therefore, provides an ideal case study to help inform future changes required in anatomical learning and assessment. Survival at intermediate temperatures (-20 to 20·5°C) did not differ significantly, however, we observed more variation at higher temperatures. To maximize recovery of S. aureus cellsing will maximize the degree to which sampling results reflect source status.Understanding amateur beekeepers' perception of risks affecting bee health and mortality is essential to analyse the reasons for adopting or rejecting good management practices. A perception survey on how beekeepers perceive and manage factors related to climate change, Varroa infestation, management practices, and pesticide exposure was designed and launched online. This unpreceded sociological survey involved 355 beekeepers spread all over Belgium. A two-sample t test with unequal variances comparing beekeepers with colony loss rates below or exceeding the acceptable level, that is less then 10% and ≥10%, indicates that beekeepers (N = 213) with colony loss rates less then 10% generally have greater average levels of perceived risks and the benefits of action that lead to increased motivation to act in better ways. The results of this survey highlight the importance of looking beyond socio-economic determinants in any risk mitigation strategy associated with bee mortality when dealing with amateur beekeepers. Reports of mortality risks among individuals with GCA have been mixed. Our aim was to evaluate all-cause mortality among individuals with GCA relative to the general population over time. We performed a population-based study in Ontario, Canada, using health administrative data. We studied a cohort of 22,677 GCA patients aged ≥50 years identified using a validated case definition (with 81% positive predictive value, 100% specificity). General population comparators were residents aged ≥50 years without GCA. Deaths were ascertained from vital statistics. Annual crude, age/sex-standardized and age- and sex-specific all-cause mortality rates were determined for individuals with and without GCA between 2000 and 2018. Standardized mortality ratios (SMRs) were estimated. Age- and sex-standardized mortality rates were significantly higher for GCA patients than comparators, and trending to increase over time with 50.0 (95% confidence interval (CI) 34.0, 71.1) deaths per 1000 GCA patients in 2000 and 57.6 (95% CI 50.8, 65.2) deaths per 1000 in 2018, whereas mortality rates in the general population significantly declined over time. The annual SMRs for GCA patients generally increased over time with the lowest SMR occurring in 2002 (1.22; 95% CI 1.03, 1.40) and the highest in 2018 (1.92; 95% CI 1.81, 2.03). GCA mortality rates were more elevated for males than females. Over a 19-year period, mortality rates were increased among GCA patients relative to the general population and more premature deaths were occurring in younger age groups. The relative excess mortality for GCA patients did not improve over time.   • This study deals with the manufacture of a specific cocoa-like powder from Egyptian carob. The crucial unit operation consists of texturing/roasting unseeded carob kibbles, with the aim being to ensure perfect control of the chemical transformations that generate the desired flavor, drying to remove excess moisture, deodorizing to eliminate the undesirable flavor, and texturing to favor the physical/micro-mechanical changes that regulate the microstructure of the end product, in order to obtain an expanded-granule powder that can be used in many food formulations. The effect of saturated steam pressure of 0.30-0.60 MPa (133.5-158.8 °C) and processing time of 40-70 s, on the sensory attributes, physical and functional properties, and color characteristics were evaluated and optimized using response surface methodology (RSM). DIC-texturing/roasting could be used to improve the sensory and color characteristics, increase the expansion ratio and oil holding capacity, and decrease the bulk density of DIC-textured/roasted carob powder. The desired quality of textured/roasted carob powder was obtained at 0.60 MPa (158.8 °C) for 55 s (experimental conditions) with water holding capacity close to those of non-textured/unroasted sample. DIC can be used as a coupled process of texturing and roasting at 0.60 MPa for 68 s as predicted by RSM.Aflatoxin-B1 contamination in maize is a major food safety issue across the world. Conventional detection technique of toxins requires highly skilled technicians and is time-consuming. Application of appropriate chemometrics along with hyperspectral imaging (HSI) can identify aflatoxin-B1 infected maize kernels. Present study was undertaken to classify 240 maize kernels inoculated with six different concentrations (25, 40, 70, 200, 300 and 500 ppb) of aflatoxin-B1 by using Vis-NIR HSI. The reflectance spectral data were pre-processed (multiplicative scatter correction (MSC), standard normal variate (SNV), Savitsky-Golay smoothing and their combinations) and classified using partial least square discriminant analysis (PLS-DA) and k-nearest neighbour (k-NN). PLS model was also developed to predict the concentration of aflatoxin-B1in naturally contaminated maize kernels inoculated with Aspergillus flavus. The potential wavelength (508 nm) was selected based on principal component analysis (PCA) loadings to distinguish between sterile and infected maize kernels. PCA score plots revealed a distinct separation of low contaminated samples (25, 40 and 70 ppb) from highly contaminated samples (200, 300 and 500 ppb) without any overlapping of data. The maximum classification accuracy of 94.7% was obtained using PLS-DA with SNV pre-processed data. Across all the combinations of pre-processing and classification models, the best efficiency (98.2%) was exhibited by k-NN model with raw data. The developed PLS model depicted good prediction accuracy ( R CV 2  = 0.820, SECV = 79.425, RPDCV = 2.382) during Venetian-blinds cross-validation. The results of pixel-wise classification (k-NN) and concentration distribution maps (PLS with raw spectra) were quite close to the result obtained by reference method (HPLC analysis) of aflatoxin-B1 detection.Present study evaluates the effect of calcium and heat setting on gel characteristics of lesser sardine (Sardinella fimbriata) surimi. We prove this by deriving an achievability bound, obtained by relating the corresponding optimization problem to the lowest Dirichlet eigenvalue of the Laplacian on the ordered simplex. We also give an improved converse bound of matching order in the number of ports. In addition, we determine the leading-order asymptotics of PBT variants defined in terms of maximally entangled resource states. The proofs of these results rely on connecting recently-derived representation-theoretic formulas to random matrix theory.

We report a case of a 67-year-old gentleman who presented with an incidental finding of a left lung mass on a routine chest X-ray. A computed tomography (CT) of the thorax and whole-body positron emission tomography (PET)-CT was done confirming a left lung mass with no other extra-thoracic involvement. A lobectomy was performed with a diagnostic and therapeutic intent. The histopathological examination and immunohistochemistry study revealed a pleural-based tumour with features suggestive of synovial sarcoma. Subsequently, he underwent post-operative radiotherapy. However, three months later, he developed an endobronchial recurrence, complicated by post-obstructive pneumonia resulting in his demise. It can occur with a wide variety of agents that result in the generation of anti-histone or other types of antibodies. Systemic manifestations of drug-induced systemic lupus erythematosus may include renal dysfunction due to circulating immune complexes or due to other immune reactions to the culprit medication(s). Acute interstitial nephritis occurs due to DNA-drug or protein-drug complexes that trigger an allergic immune response. We report a patient who developed acute kidney injury, rash, and drug-induced systemic lupus diagnosed by serologies after starting chlorthalidone and amiodarone. A renal biopsy showed acute interstitial nephritis and not lupus-induced glomerulonephritis. It is important to note that systemic lupus erythematosus and acute interstitial nephritis can occur together, and this report highlights the role of the kidney biopsy in ascertaining the pathological diagnosis and outlining therapy in drug-induced lupus erythematosus.

Systemic manifestations of drug-induced systemic lupus erythematosus may include renal dysfunction due to circulating immune complexes or due to other immune reactions to the culprit medication(s). Acute interstitial nephritis occurs due to DNA-drug or protein-drug complexes that trigger an allergic immune response. We report a patient who developed acute kidney injury, rash, and drug-induced systemic lupus diagnosed by serologies after starting chlorthalidone and amiodarone. A renal biopsy showed acute interstitial nephritis and not lupus-induced glomerulonephritis. It is important to note that systemic lupus erythematosus and acute interstitial nephritis can occur together, and this report highlights the role of the kidney biopsy in ascertaining the pathological diagnosis and outlining therapy in drug-induced lupus erythematosus.
