Because Jassa can be so readily found, but species discrimination has had a problematic history, the purpose of this monograph is to assist researchers to identify species through illustrations, descriptions, keys and habitat summaries. Seven species which were named in the 19th century but whose names have lapsed are placed in the context of currently known species. Two new species, J. laurieae n. sp. and J. kimi n. sp. are described, and J. monodon (Heller, 1866) and J. valida (Dana, 1853) are resurrected.   • In cardiac surgery, myocardial protection is required during cross-clamping followed by reperfusion. The use of cardioplegic solutions helps preserve myocardial energy stores, hindering electrolyte disturbances and acidosis during periods of myocardial ischaemia. This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety between the histidine-tryptophan-ketoglutarate (HTK) solution and blood cardioplegia in various cardiac surgeries.

    Three-hundred-twenty patients aged 30-70 years old undergoing various cardiac surgeries were randomized into the HTK group and the blood cardioplegia group. The ventilation time, total bypass time, cross-clamp time, length of intensive care unit (ICU) or hospital stay, and postoperative complications were analyzed.

    The total bypass time and cross-clamp time were significantly shorter in the HTK group than in the blood cardioplegia group (P < 0.001). Segmental wall motion abnormalities (SWMA) at postoperative echocardiography were significantly higher in in the blood cardioplegiropic support than blood cardioplegia. Custodiol cardioplegia is a safe and feasible option that can be used as an effective substitute for blood cardioplegia to enhance myocardial protection.

Herein, a case is presented of a giant ruptured noncoronary sinus of Valsalva aneurysm (SVA) that was protruding into the right atrium, which was almost completely occupied by an aneurysm. A 61-year-old female was referred to the hospital for exertional palpitation and dyspnea. While a surgical repair was performed by resection of the aneurysm and a sinus remodeling with a patch of fresh bovine pericardium, a very rare case was observed. It was a giant ruptured noncoronary sinus of aneurysm that completely occupied the right atrium, which was difficult to distinguish from the coronary aneurysm. It is also believed that various imaging examinations, such as cardiac computed tomography angiogram (CCTA) and transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE), were useful for the diagnosis.
    The impact of biologics used in PsA management on T cells is unknown. This study evaluated the effect of tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNFα), interleukin-17A (IL-17A), and IL-6 receptor (IL-6R) blockers on T cell function in PsA patients and healthy controls peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs).

    A total of 111 PsA patients and 32 healthy controls were recruited. PBMCs were co-cultured in presence of the biologics. T cell activation and proliferation were analysed by flow cytometry and cytokines in supernatants were measured by ELISA. The effect of biologics on lymphocyte proliferation was determined in response to phytohemagglutinin (PHA).

    Activated CD4+CD25+ T cells were significantly reduced by adalimumab (ADA) in PsA patients as compared to medium, ixekizumab (IXE), and tocilizumab (TCZ), while in healthy controls, ADA reduced the activated CD4+CD25+ T cells non-significantly. Elevated TNFα and IL-1β levels were produced in supernatants of PsA patients as compared to healthy controls. TNFα, IL-17A, IL-1β, and MMP-3 levels were reduced by ADA compared to medium (p<0.0001, p<0.0004, p<0.04, p<0.04, respectively). IXE reduced IL-17A (p<0.0001) but not the other cytokines. ADA had higher susceptibility to inhibit PHA-induced proliferation in both PsA patients and healthy controls (p<0.03) as compared to IXE and TCZ.

    Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have an accelerated progression of atherosclerosis. The aim of this study was to examine the associations between subclinical atherosclerosis, assessed by intima-media thickness (IMT), and regulators of bone formation, markers of bone turnover and bone mineral density (BMD) in patients with RA.

Between June and October 2014, 169 bovines from 25 farms were included in this survey, 32 (18.9%) among them were suspected of piroplasmosis and/or anaplasmosis. Infection prevalences were estimated by microscopic examination of Giemsa-stained blood smears and blood samples from all included cattle (n = 169). Animals were infected by Theileria annulata (65/169; 38.46%), Anaplasma marginale (22/169; 13%) and Babesia bovis (5/169; 3%). Two co-infection patterns were found Theileria annulata/Anaplasma marginale (7.69%) and Theileria annulata/Babesia bovis (1.18%). Only one farm had no cattle infected by any of the haemopathogens. There was a signification difference of T. annulata infection prevalence according to age category (p =.04). Phylodynamic analyses using a birth-death model generated effective reproductive number estimates (the average number of secondary infections per each infectious case, Re ) larger than one for most of the epochs considered. However, the possible range of the initial Re included estimates lower than one despite the known rapid spread of RHDV in Australia. Furthermore, the analyses that accounted for geographical structuring failed to converge. We argue that the difficulties that we encountered most likely stem from the fact that the samples available from 1996 to 2014 were too sparse with respect to both geographic and within outbreak coverage to adequately infer some of the model parameters. In general, while these phylodynamic analyses proved to be greatly informative in some regards, we caution that their interpretation may not be straightforward. We recommend further research to evaluate the robustness of these models to assumption violations and sensitivity to sampling regimes.
    Hospital-at-home (HAH), a pioneering health care model, is an accepted alternative to hospital treatment for patients with a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbations. The aim of the present study was to analyze the effectiveness of HAH for patients with COPD exacerbations.

    Two hundred six patients with COPD exacerbations who were admitted to our emergency room (ER) received the HAH model between January 2008 and March 2010. The number of patient's hospitalization, admission to emergency room, unscheduled outpatient attendance, and the length of stay in hospital (day) were recorded before and after a one-year period of HAH.

    After a one-year follow-up period of the HAH program, the number of patient who had hospitalization, admission to ER, unscheduled outpatient attendance rates was decreased 41.3%, 54.4%, 49.5% respectively. The decreases for all parameters were found to be statistically significant (P < 0.001). Additionally the total number of length of stay in hospital (day) after a one-year period after HAH was decreased (46.5%).

    Integrated care services, including home care units where HAH models are performed, are necessary to improve the health of patients with COPD, as well as to better manage their condition in terms of disease burden. Infection prevalences were estimated by microscopic examination of Giemsa-stained blood smears and blood samples from all included cattle (n = 169). Animals were infected by Theileria annulata (65/169; 38.46%), Anaplasma marginale (22/169; 13%) and Babesia bovis (5/169; 3%). Two co-infection patterns were found Theileria annulata/Anaplasma marginale (7.69%) and Theileria annulata/Babesia bovis (1.18%). Only one farm had no cattle infected by any of the haemopathogens. There was a signification difference of T. annulata infection prevalence according to age category (p =.04).   • Neural architecture search (NAS), which aims at automatically seeking proper neural architectures given a specific task, has attracted extensive attention recently in supervised learning applications. In most real-world situations, the class labels provided in the training data would be noisy due to many reasons, such as subjective judgments, inadequate information, and random human errors. Existing work has demonstrated the adverse effects of label noise on the learning of weights of neural networks. These effects could become more critical in NAS since the architectures are not only trained with noisy labels but are also compared based on their performances on noisy validation sets. In this paper, we systematically explore the robustness of NAS under label noise. We show that label noise in the training and/or validation data can lead to various degrees of performance variations. Through empirical experiments, using robust loss functions can mitigate the performance degradation under symmetric label noise as well as under a simple model of class conditional label noise. We also provide a theoretical justification for this. Both empirical and theoretical results provide a strong argument in favor of employing the robust loss function in NAS under high-level noise.Growth retardation (stunting, wasting and poor organ development) among children in low-income countries has major short and long-term health consequences yet very little is known about the nutritional and environmental influences on the key hormonal axes regulating child growth in these settings, nor the tempo and timing of faltering episodes. Here we describe the study protocol and provide a cohort description of the Hormonal and Epigenetic Regulators of Growth (HERO-G) study. This prospective cohort study from rural Gambia, West Africa, followed mothers and children longitudinally from pre-conception, through pregnancy, delivery, and to two years of child age A total of 251 eligible mother-infant pairs were recruited into the HERO-G study, with 206 (82%) followed up until two years of age. Women were seen at scheduled antenatal appointments at 20, 28 and 36 weeks of gestation, and at delivery, where possible. Between one week and 12 months of age, infants were visited every second day for collection of detailed anthropometry and morbidity data. Infants identified as about to enter a growth faltering episode at these visits entered a more detailed 20-day protocol, with the collection of dried blood spots, anthropometry and body composition. All infants were seen for scheduled clinic visits at 3, 6, 9, 12, 18 and 24 months of age for clinical examination and venous blood draw. Data from the HERO-G study is being used to explore three major mechanistic pathways influencing growth 1) genome-wide investigations for signatures of epigenetic effects on any loci that might affect growth; 2) frequent anthropometric measurement coupled with non-invasive monitoring for rapid identification and interrogation of real-time faltering patterns and aetiology; 3) focused measurement of hormones and cytokines that act together in an integrated manner, both in utero and after birth, to coordinate patterns of growth with immune activation, inflammation, and nutritional status.This paper aims to explore the potential of a novel radiometry technique that leverages bio-matched antennas (BMAs), broadband measurements, and forward modeling of layered tissues for non-invasive and accurate core temperature monitoring. This work provides a convenient platform with great potential for studying subpopulations of EVs.
    Late-onset complications of left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) device procedure are anecdotal and there are no such complications reported in literature using Cardia Ultraseal (Cardia, Inc., Eagan, MN, USA).

    We report the case of a 74-year-old Caucasian man affected by paroxysmal atrial fibrillation with significant bleeding risk (familiar thrombocytopenia, macroscopic haematuria episodes during therapy with direct oral anticoagulants, HAS-BLED risk score 4) and ischaemic risk as well (CHADSVASC score 3). The patient was treated with LAAO device implantation for high bleeding risk. Subsequently, after 26 days from LAAO procedure, he was admitted to the emergency department for haematic cardiac tamponade. The patient was successfully treated with subxyphoidal pericardiocentesis in the acute phase, unfortunately cardiac arrest occurred during the transfer to the referral hospital for urgent cardiac surgery. Permanent neurological damage was reported and the patient died on day 28.

    LAAO late-onset complications are very rare and the case presented is the first case described of late-onset pericardial effusion and tamponade secondary to the Cardia Ultraseal LAAO device implantation. We present a revision of the literature regarding the occurrence of similar adverse events and discuss the hypothetical mechanism of this major complication.

After filtering through a glass membrane (1 μm pore size), over 90.7% of MPs were trapped on the membrane, whereas above 93.0% of NPs remained in the filtrate. The collected MPs together with the glass membrane were frozen in liquid nitrogen, ground, and suspended in water (1 mL) and subjected to pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) determination. The NPs in the filtrate were concentrated by cloud-point extraction, heated at 190 °C to degrade the extractant, and then determined by Py-GC/MS. For MPs and NPs spiked in pure water, the method detection limits are in the range of 0.05-1.9 μg/L. The proposed method is applied to analyze four real water samples, with the detection of 1.6-7.6 μg/L PS MPs and 0.6 μg/L PMMA MPs in three samples, and spiked recoveries of 75.0-102% for MPs and 67.8-87.2% for NPs. Anion-pillared metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), featuring the anion groups as structural pillars, show potential in gas separations, but only a limited number of them have been synthesized. Here, we describe a collection of 936 anion-pillared MOFs based on 22 experimentally available structures. We performed density functional theory (DFT) optimization and then assigned density-derived electrostatic and chemical (DDEC) charges for each MOF to make them well suited to molecular simulations. The structural properties of the MOFs vary more strongly with the choice of the organic ligand than with other aspects like fluorine groups and metal centers. We then screened the entire collection of MOFs in the context of Xe/Kr separation at room temperature. With the excitation on the ytterbium ion, the characteristic green and red emissions from erbium were obtained at room temperature. Using spherical polystyrene (PS) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) plastics as models, the efficiency for sequential isolation of MPs and NPs by membrane filtration and cloud-point extraction was evaluated. After filtering through a glass membrane (1 μm pore size), over 90.7% of MPs were trapped on the membrane, whereas above 93.0% of NPs remained in the filtrate. The collected MPs together with the glass membrane were frozen in liquid nitrogen, ground, and suspended in water (1 mL) and subjected to pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) determination. The NPs in the filtrate were concentrated by cloud-point extraction, heated at 190 °C to degrade the extractant, and then determined by Py-GC/MS. For MPs and NPs spiked in pure water, the method detection limits are in the range of 0.05-1.9 μg/L. The proposed method is applied to analyze four real water samples, with the detection of 1.6-7.6 μg/L PS MPs and 0.6 μg/L PMMA MPs in three samples, and spiked recoveries of 75.0-102% for MPs and 67.8-87.2% for NPs. Here, we describe a collection of 936 anion-pillared MOFs based on 22 experimentally available structures. We performed density functional theory (DFT) optimization and then assigned density-derived electrostatic and chemical (DDEC) charges for each MOF to make them well suited to molecular simulations. The structural properties of the MOFs vary more strongly with the choice of the organic ligand than with other aspects like fluorine groups and metal centers. We then screened the entire collection of MOFs in the context of Xe/Kr separation at room temperature. Tracheal intubation was performed within one minute after the administration of the study drugs. The secondary outcome measures included laryngopharyngeal morbidity and the correct positioning of the gastric port. Material and Methods A sample size of 30 was calculated in each study group. A total of 70 study participants were included in the statistical analysis of which 36 patients were in the BM group and 34 patients were in the LMAS group. Results The BM was successfully inserted in 28 patients (77.8%), whereas LMAS was successfully inserted in 33 patients (97.1%) in the first attempt (P = 0.028). The mean oropharyngeal seal pressure in the BM group was higher (33.28 ± 6.80 cm H2O) than compared to the LMAS group (27.47 ± 2.34 cm H2O) with a P value less then 0.001. There was no significant difference between the two groups in the incidence of postoperative laryngopharyngeal morbidity both in the immediate postoperative period (P = 0.479) and that seen 24 hours post operatively (P = 0.660). The nasogastric tube could easily be inserted in the entire study population. Conclusion From the present study, it is concluded that the BM creates a higher oropharyngeal seal pressure than the LMAS. However, the BM is more difficult to insert. The incidence of postoperative laryngopharyngeal morbidity is similar in both groups. Material and Methods We analyzed 834 patients with body mass index (BMI) >35 kg/m2 for their difficult airway score (DASc). DASc is a consolidation of measures of difficult airway like mask ventilation, difficult intubation, change of device, and number of personnel required. DASc varied from "0" no difficulty to "12" serious difficulty and DASc ≥6 was considered difficult. Preoperative parameters - neck circumference (NC), BMI, STOPBANG score, Mallampati score, obstructive sleep apnea grade, and waist circumference- were assessed. Results Receiver operating characteristic curve was used to identify risk factors for obese patients at DASc ≥6. The Youden index (for the best threshold, with highest sensitivity and specificity) was BMI 45 kg/m2 and NC 44.5 cm. Their absence had an 81% negative predictive value to include a difficult airway, while their presence had a positive predictive value of 55%. This further has sensitivity of 66% and specificity of 73%. The mean SAT (256 ± 6 s) was inversely related to DASc (P less then 0.001). Conclusion This study demonstrates that BMI and NC have a strong association with difficult airway in obese patients and are inversely related to SAT. Amongst these NC is the single most important predictor of difficult airway in obese and should be used as a screening tool. I-gel was used for positive pressure ventilation, and if the post-insertion oropharyngeal seal pressure was less then 25 cm H2O, it was replaced with a tracheal tube. Adequacy of ventilation and adverse events were noted. Results Data from 102 cases were analyzed (17 cases excluded tracheal intubation in 11; missing data in 6 cases). The mean oropharyngeal seal pressure was 34.2 ± 5.2 cm H2O and mean airway pressure was 16.

To address this gap, we sought to explore challenges that clinicians encounter as they seek CME, and time and monetary support allotted for CME.

    In August 2018, we surveyed licensed US clinicians (physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants), sampling 100 respondents each of family medicine physicians, internal medicine and hospitalist physicians, medicine specialist physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants (1895 invited, 500 [26.3%] responded). The Internet-based questionnaire addressed barriers to obtaining CME, sources of CME information, and time and monetary support for CME.

    The most often-selected barriers were expense (338/500 [68%]) and travel time (N = 286 [57%]).     Calorie restriction (CR) and intermittent fasting (IF) can promote metabolic health through a process that is partially mediated by gut microbiota modulation. To compare the effects of CR and IF with different dietary structures on metabolic health and the gut microbiota, we performed an experiment in which **** were subjected to a CR or IF regimen and an additional IF control (IF
    ) group whose total energy intake was not different from that of the CR group was included. Each regimen was included for normal chow and high-fat diet.

This study aimed to characterise the HSU of disability and unemployment benefit recipients relative to people earning wages, while controlling for personal, household and health-related factors associated with HSU in benefit recipients.

    A cross-sectional national survey of 9110 working age Australian adults in three groups (1) 566 receiving the disability support pension (DSP); (2) 410 receiving unemployment benefits; and (3) 8134 earning wages. Outcomes included prevalence and frequency of health professional consultations, hospital attendance and admission in the past 12 months, as well as medication and supplement use in the past 2 weeks. Analyses compared DSP and unemployment benefit recipients to wage earners using prevamployment and disability insurance benefits use significantly more health services than wage earners.     Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) has been widely utilized in modern medicine and dentistry owing to its ability to rapidly stimulate neoangiogenesis, leading to faster tissue regeneration. While improvements over traditional platelet rich plasma therapies (which use chemical additives such as bovine thrombin and calcium chloride) have been observed, most clinicians are unaware that many tubes utilized for the production of 'natural' and '100% autologous' PRF may in fact contain chemical additives without appropriate or transparent knowledge provided to the treating clinician. The aim of this overview article is therefore to provide a technical note on recent discoveries related to PRF tubes and describe recent trends related to research on the topic from the authors laboratories.

    Recommendations are provided to clinicians with the aim of further optimizing PRF clots/membranes by appropriate understanding of PRF tubes. The most common additives to PRF tubes reported in the literature are silica and/or silicone. ng the negative impact of the addition of silica/silicone on clot formation, cell behavior and in vivo inflammation.
    This technical note addresses these issues in detail and provides scientific background of recent research articles on the topic.     This study aimed to explore whether compensatory remodeling of the alveolar bone surface occurred during the buccal palatal movement of orthodontic teeth. We preliminarily explored whether corticotomy could activate or accelerate osteogenesis in the alveolar bone surface by measuring the expression of TGF-β1 (transforming growth factor-β1), which can facilitate the proliferation and differentiation of osteoblasts and regulate the maturity and formation of bone.

    Sixty 10-week-old male Wistar rats were selected. In the orthodontic group, 20 rats were implanted with a constriction device between the maxillary first molars under general anesthesia. In the corticotomy group, 20 rats were implanted with a constriction device, and a palatal incision was made to penetrate the cortical bone. In the control group, 20 rats underwent no experimental operation except general anesthesia. After 1, 3, 5 and 7days, the maxillary first molars and the surrounding alveolar bone were harvested, and coronal sections containing the apical mesial buccal root were prepared and observed using tetracycline fluorescence, HE staining and immunohistochemical staining for TGF-β1.

We showed that in normal-chow mice, the IF regimen had similar positive effects on glucose and lipid metabolism as the CR regimen, but the IF regimen showed almost no influence compared to the outcomes observed in the ad libitum group. IF also resulted in improvements, but the effects were less marked than those associate with CR and IF when the mice were fed a high-fat diet. Moreover, CR created a stable and unique gut microbial community, while the gut microbiota shaped b effects on the host metabolism. Greater understanding of the health service use (HSU) of benefit recipients would support more effective design and delivery of health and income support programs. This study aimed to characterise the HSU of disability and unemployment benefit recipients relative to people earning wages, while controlling for personal, household and health-related factors associated with HSU in benefit recipients. A cross-sectional national survey of 9110 working age Australian adults in three groups (1) 566 receiving the disability support pension (DSP); (2) 410 receiving unemployment benefits; and (3) 8134 earning wages. Outcomes included prevalence and frequency of health professional consultations, hospital attendance and admission in the past 12 months, as well as medication and supplement use in the past 2 weeks. Analyses compared DSP and unemployment benefit recipients to wage earners using prevamployment and disability insurance benefits use significantly more health services than wage earners. Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) has been widely utilized in modern medicine and dentistry owing to its ability to rapidly stimulate neoangiogenesis, leading to faster tissue regeneration. While improvements over traditional platelet rich plasma therapies (which use chemical additives such as bovine thrombin and calcium chloride) have been observed, most clinicians are unaware that many tubes utilized for the production of 'natural' and '100% autologous' PRF may in fact contain chemical additives without appropriate or transparent knowledge provided to the treating clinician. The aim of this overview article is therefore to provide a technical note on recent discoveries related to PRF tubes and describe recent trends related to research on the topic from the authors laboratories. Recommendations are provided to clinicians with the aim of further optimizing PRF clots/membranes by appropriate understanding of PRF tubes. The most common additives to PRF tubes reported in the literature are silica and/or silicone. ng the negative impact of the addition of silica/silicone on clot formation, cell behavior and in vivo inflammation. This technical note addresses these issues in detail and provides scientific background of recent research articles on the topic. We preliminarily explored whether corticotomy could activate or accelerate osteogenesis in the alveolar bone surface by measuring the expression of TGF-β1 (transforming growth factor-β1), which can facilitate the proliferation and differentiation of osteoblasts and regulate the maturity and formation of bone. Sixty 10-week-old male Wistar rats were selected. In the orthodontic group, 20 rats were implanted with a constriction device between the maxillary first molars under general anesthesia. In the corticotomy group, 20 rats were implanted with a constriction device, and a palatal incision was made to penetrate the cortical bone. In the control group, 20 rats underwent no experimental operation except general anesthesia. After 1, 3, 5 and 7days, the maxillary first molars and the surrounding alveolar bone were harvested, and coronal sections containing the apical mesial buccal root were prepared and observed using tetracycline fluorescence, HE staining and immunohistochemical staining for TGF-β1.

The second PMF segment is butt-coupled to one port of the PBS so that its slow axis is oriented at 22.5° for the horizontal axis of the PBS. Based on the filter transmittance derived through the Jones calculus, we found the orientation angle (OA) sets of the four waveplates, which could induce an extra phase shift Φ from 0° to 360° in the passband-flattened transmittance function. From the transmission spectra calculated at the eight selected OA sets, which caused Φ to increase from 0° to 315° by steps of 45°, it was confirmed that the passband-flattened multiwavelength spectrum can be continuously tuned by properly controlling the OAs. This indicates continuous wavelength tunability based on composite OWCs. Then, this theoretical prediction was verified by experimental demonstration.

  • Pseudogonatodes furvus is an endemic gecko from the region of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, an isolated massif located in the continental Caribbean region of Colombia. Pseudogonatodes furvus is the type species of the genus, and its morphology and natural history remain poorly known. This lizard was described based on two specimens. After its description, the species has only been mentioned in a handful of taxonomic studies of Pseudogonatodes, in which a few morphological characters of P. furvus have been mentioned. One other paper reported two new localities, without providing new information on the external morphology, especially the lepidosis of the newly obtained specimens. Here we review the external morphology of P. furvus, based on examination of the holotype and six additional specimens. We provide an extended diagnosis and definition, description of holotype, variation, comparisons with other Pseudogonatodes, geographic distribution (adding a fourth locality to the known distribution for the species), and conservation status. Additionally, we describe osteological features for the diagnosis of the genus.Due to superficial morphological similarities, there is often confusion in the identification of some species of the genus Septaria. A combined analysis of the genital anatomy, morphometric and DNA, based on a portion of the COI gene, applied to three nominal species of this genus, confirmed the validity of Septaria tahitiana Eichhorst, 2016, and suggested that Septaria borbonica (Bory de Saint Vincent, 1804) is a subspecies of Septaria porcellana (Linnaeus, 1758), both taxa with disjunct distribution areas Septaria borbonica in the western Indian Ocean and Septaria porcellana the western Pacific and eastern Indian Oceans. The possible presence of Septaria tesselata (Lamarck, 1816) in Mayotte (Comoros Archipelago) needs to be confirmed.The bathyal serpulid Laminatubus alvini ten Hove Zibrowius, 1986 was described from the periphery of hydrothermal vents of the Galapagos Rift and has been recorded from other vent communities of the East Pacific Rise (EPR). Here we assessed the biodiversity of serpulids collected from eastern Pacific hydrothermal vents and methane seeps using DNA sequences and morphology. Laminatubus alvini showed little genetic variation over a wide geographic range from the Alarcon Rise vents in southern Gulf of California (~23°N), to at least a point at 38°S on the EPR. Specimens from several methane seeps off Costa Rica and the Gulf of California (Mexico) differed markedly from those of Laminatubus alvini on DNA sequence data and in having seven thoracic chaetigers and lacking Spirobranchus-type special collar chaetae, thus fitting the diagnosis of Neovermilia. However, phylogenetic analysis of molecular data showed that L. alvini and the seep specimens form a well-supported clade. Moreover, among the seep specimens there was minimally a ~7% distance in mitochondrial cytochrome b sequences between a shallow-water (1000 m) seep clade restricted to Costa Rica and a deep-water clade (1800 m) from Costa Rica to Gulf of California. We describe the seep taxa here as morphologically indistinguishable L. paulbrooksi n. sp. and L. joycebrooksae n. sp.Hernáez et al. This species would be one of the earliest records of harvestmen. The description was based on a single slide showing fragments of arthropod cuticle, which Tihelka et al. interpreted as a harvestmen penis and unspecified associated body parts. As specialists on harvestman morphology and systematics, we were intrigued by these conclusions. Here, we describe a new Phlogiellus species from Hainan, China P. quanyui sp. nov.Phryganogryllacris laoshanica sp. nov. is described from Shandong, China. The new species is the first mesopterous species belonging to the genus Phryganogryllacris. Types of the new species in this paper are deposited in Shanghai Entomological Museum, Chinese Academy of Sciences.The genus Lyroda Say, 1837 is reviewed in Africa and Arabia. Lyroda centralafricana Schmid-Egger Al-Jahdhami, sp. nov. is described from Central African Republic and Zambia from both sexes; the holotype is a male.
