    Schistosomiasis japonica is a chronic parasitic disease that seriously harms people's health. Oncomelania hupensis is the only intermediate host of Schistosoma japonicum. The micro-environmental factors surrounding the snail have a great impact on the survival, growth and reproduction of O. hupensis, but there are few relevant systematic analyses until the present. This scoping review aims to identify and summarize the micro-environmental factors that greatly affect O. hupensis, and to find gaps in research thus to provide directions for future in-depth studies.

    This scoping review searched databases with search terms of the combinations of "Micro(-)environment", "Oncomelania" and their expanded aspects. A total of 133 original articles were recruited. Predefined data fields were extracted including research methods, influencing factors, and their effects on O. hupensis. Most studies focused on vegetation factors (54.1%), and other factors noted were soil composition (27.8%), water environmental factors ( the impact of micro-environmental factors on snails and close the research gaps.

The comet assay of hepatocytes is well established; however, the levels of systemic drug exposure following systemic administration are often insufficient to evaluate the genotoxic potential of compounds on the ocular surface following ocular instillation. To investigate the possibility of using the comet assay as a genotoxic evaluation tool for the ocular surface, we performed this assay on the corneal epithelial cells of rabbit eyes 2h after the single ocular instillation of five genotoxic compounds, namely ethidium bromide, 1,1'-dimethyl-4,4'-bipyridinium dichloride (paraquat), methyl methanesulfonate (MMS), acrylamide, and 4-nitroquinoline 1-oxide (4-NQO).

    To compare the incidence of osteoporotic fractures in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) with matched controls from a university hospital.

    Consecutive RA patients (n = 100) were matched (age and sex) with controls (12). Fire may avert population declines by increasing survival, reproduction, or both. Survival and growth after fires may be promoted by removal of competitors or biomass and increasing resource availability. Fire-stimulated reproduction may also contribute to population growth through bolstered recruitment. We quantified these influences of fire on population dynamics in Echinacea angustifolia, a perennial forb in North American tallgrass prairie. We first used four datasets, 7-21 years long, to estimate fire's influences on survival, flowering, and recruitment. We then used matrix projection models to estimate growth rates across several burn frequencies in five populations, each with one to four burns over 15 years. Finally, we estimated the contribution of fire-induced changes in each vital rate to changes in population growth. Population growth rates generally increased with burning. The demographic process underpinning these increases depended on juvenile survival. In populations with high juvenile survival, fire-induced increases in seedling recruitment and juvenile survival enhanced population growth. However, in populations with low juvenile survival, small changes in adult survival drove growth rate changes. Regardless of burn frequencies, our models suggest populations are declining and that recruitment and juvenile survival critically influence population response to fire. However, crucially, increased seedling recruitment only increases population growth rates when enough new recruits reach reproductive maturity. The importance of recruitment and juvenile survival is especially relevant for small populations in fragmented habitats subject to mate-limiting Allee effects and inbreeding depression, which reduce recruitment and survival, respectively.

We then used matrix projection models to estimate growth rates across several burn frequencies in five populations, each with one to four burns over 15 years.   • True ulnar artery aneurysms are a rare entity, with existing literature suggesting that most of these aneurysms are due to trauma. This case report sheds light on a true ulnar artery aneurysm that was deemed to be idiopathic.

    A 49-year-old lady presented with numbness in the medial 3 fingers of the left hand, tenderness over the medial forearm, and a palpable ulnar artery pulse. There was no history of trauma. An arterial ultrasound, MRI of the forearm, and upper limb angiography confirmed the diagnosis of ulnar artery aneurysm. Surgical repair of the aneurysm was done with excellent immediate post-operative and follow up results.

In this case however, after detailed history taking, physical examination, and thorough investigations, the cause of the patient's aneurysm was deemed to be idiopathic.     Fracture with a critical bone loss is associated with a profound burden of disease impact. Although there are several options exist for its treatment, but still those reconstructive procedures are technically demanding, relatively expensive and sometimes the result is less than what was expected. The objective of this study is to report a rare case of spontaneous healing of a critical radial bone defect in an adolescent.

    We reported a 15 year old boy with a segmental open fracture of left radius, open fracture of left distal shaft ulna and closed fracture of left intercondylar humerus. The middle fragment of a fractured radius was extruded out, pulled out and then thrown away by his parent. Debridement, open reduction, and internal fixation for ulna were performed as well as reposition and internal fixation for the intercondylar humerus fracture. The plan was to wait until the ulnar fracture and intercondylar fracture to heal without any sign of infection and proceed to overcome the radial critical bone defect. This case report had been reported in line with SCARE criteria. The patient showed up seven months later with solid union of the critical radius bone defect and fully functioning hand with only slight limitation in pronation.

    Osteogenesis in fracture requires osteogenic cells, osteoinductive components, osteoconductive scaffold, and stability. Despite the fact that critical bone defect poses great challenge for its management, intact periosteum and sufficient soft tissue perfusion were able to provide those biologic requirements adequately for fracture healing and ensure spontaneous healing of a traumatic critical bone loss in adolescent without any reconstructive procedure.

    Blunt abdominal trauma causing Gastro-esophageal junction (GEJ), diaphragm, and gastric perforation in children is a very rare occurrence. However, the injury is serious and life-threatening with significant morbidity and mortality.

In this article, we contend that a contextual approach that appropriately balances children's legal and moral rights and interests is needed when thinking about data protection issues with children. We examine three issues in health research through a child-focused lens consent to data processing, data retention, and data protection impact assessments. We show that these issues present distinctive concerns for children and that the General Data Protection Regulation provides few bright-line rules. We contend that there is an opportunity for creative approaches to children's data protection when child-specific principles, such as the best interests of the child and the child's right to be heard, are put into dialogue with the structure and logic of data protection law.

Unlike traditional sequence-based protein design and fragment-based stitching, the Pepblock Builder VR provides a building block style environment for complex structure building. Furthermore, the inclusion of virtual reality to the Pepblock Builder VR brings immersive learning and provides users with "being there" experience in protein visualisation. The Pepblock Builder VR works both as a stand-alone and VR-based application, and with a gamified user interface, the Pepblock Builder VR aims to expand the horizons of scientific data generation to the masses.Compared with endophytes, metabolites from endophytes (MEs) have great potential in agriculture. Herein, a system was established for the production, quality control and application of MEs by using the extract from Paecilomyces variotii SJ1 (ZNC). First, the extraction conditions of ZNC were optimized through response surface methodology, after which each batch (500 L) met the consumption requirements of crops in 7,467 hectares. Then, chromatographic fingerprinting and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay were applied to evaluate the similarity and specificity of unknown effective components in ZNC, ensuring a similarity of more than 90% and a quantitative accuracy of greater than 99.9% for the products from different batches. Finally, the bioactivity of industrially produced ZNC was evaluated in the field, and it significantly increased the potato yields by 4.4-10.8%. The main challenge of maintaining 3D printed tissue viability is the inclusion of complex vascular networks for nutrient transport and waste disposal. Rapid development and discoveries in recent years have taken huge strides toward perfecting the incorporation of vascular networks in 3D printed tissue and organs. In this review, we will discuss the latest advancements in fabricating vascularized tissue and organs including novel strategies and materials, and their applications. Our discussion will begin with the exploration of printing vasculature, progress through the current statuses of bioprinting tissue/organoids from bone to muscles to organs, and conclude with relevant applications for in vitro models and drug testing.     Mangiferin (MF) is a natural phytopolyphenol, which displays potential pharmacological properties involving antibacterial, anti-inflammation, antioxidant and anti-tumor. However, little is known about the roles of MF in lung injury. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the modulatory effects and molecular mechanisms by which MF operates in sepsis-induced lung injury.

    To examine the protective properties of MF, an in vivo model of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced lung injury in **** and an in vitro model of LPS-treated J774A.1 cells were established, respectively. The results revealed that MF treatment significantly relieved LPS-induced pathological injury and inflammatory response in murine lung tissues. Meanwhile, MF treatment also inhibited nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain (NOD)-like receptor family, pyrin domain-containing protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome activation and pyroptosis induced by LPS. In macrophage-specific NLRP3 deficiency **** treated with LPS, MF showed little protective effects. NLRP3 overexpression by adenovirus could also offset the beneficial effects of MF in LPS-treated J774A.1 cells. In macrophage-specific NLRP3 deficiency mice treated with LPS, MF showed little protective effects. Social function and personality were assessed using the Social Functioning Questionnaire (SFQ) and the Personality Assessment Schedule, with its ICD-11 modification. A 5-item short version of the SFQ, the Short Social Functioning Questionnaire (SSFQ), was also developed. The SFQ score in the first two studies (area under curve [AUC] 0.64 and 0.65) partly predicted personality status; in the third study, this achieved close agreement (AUC SFQ 0.85 [95% CI 0.8-0.9]; AUC SSFQ 0.84 [95% CI 0.78-0.89]). In all studies, social function deteriorated linearly with increasing personality pathology. Cut-off points of 4 on the SSFQ and 7 on the SFQ had high sensitivity (SSFQ 82%-90%; SFQ 82%-83%) and acceptable specificity (SSFQ 66%-75%; SFQ 69%-75%) in identifying personality disorder in the third study.

Recently, dysfunctions of the neurovascular unit and anomalies of the brain vasculature have unexpectedly emerged as potential causes at the origin of behavioral abnormalities and psychiatric disorders consequent to prenatal and perinatal infections. This review aims to discuss the up-to-date literature evidence pointing to the neurovascular unit and brain vasculature damages as the etiological mechanisms in neurodevelopmental syndromes. We focus on the inflammatory events consequent to intragravidic viral infections as well as on the direct viral effects as the potential primary triggers. These authors hope that a timely review of the literature will help to envision promising research directions, also relevant for the present and future COVID-19 longitudinal studies.

  • It is evidenced by different studies that neem extracts are the potential to scavenge free radicals and reduce ROS-mediated damage to cells. Neem can be used to normalize lipid peroxidation and minimize ROS-mediated cell death. The aim of the study is to determine the ability of methotrexate gold nanoparticles (MTX-GNPs) in the induction of apoptosis and to explore the molecular changes at genomics and proteomics level. Different assays like cell viability assay, cell cycle analysis, apoptosis, real-time PCR and western blot were carried out to evaluate the anti-cancer effect of MTX-Gold NPs on MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 cells. Our observations demonstrated the decrease in the percent viable cells after the treatment of MTX-GNPs, with an arrest in cell cycle at G0/G1 phase and a significant increase in apoptotic cell population and loss of mitochondrial membrane potential in MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 cells. Folate receptor targeted MTX-GNPs showed significant cellular uptake in breast cancer cells along with significant down-regulation in expression of anti-apoptotic gene (Bcl-2) and up-regulation in expression of pro-apoptotic genes (Bax, Caspase-3, Caspase-9, APAF-1, p53). This is the first comprehensive association mapping study related to potato root and stolon traits. A diverse panel of 192 tetraploid potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) genotypes were grown in aeroponics to reveal a biologically significant variation and detection of genomic regions associated with the root and stolon traits. Phenotyping of root traits was performed by image analysis software "WinRHIZO" (a root scanning method), and stolon traits was measured manually, while SolCAP 25K potato array was used for genotyping. Significant variation was observed between the potato genotypes for root and stolon traits along with high heritabilities (0.80 in TNS to 0.95 in SL). For marker-trait associations, Q + K linear mixed model was implemented and 50 novel genomic regions were detected. Significantly associated SNPs with stolon traits were located on chr 4, chr 6, chr 7, chr 9, chr 11 and chr 12, while those linked to root traits on chr 1, chr 2, chr 3, chr 9, chr 11, and chr 12. Structure and PCA analysis grouped genotypes into four sub-populations disclosing population genetic diversity. LD decay was observed at 2.316 Mbps (r 2 = 0.29) in the population. The identified SNPs were associated with genes performing vital functions such as root signaling and signal transduction in stress environments (GT-2 factors, protein kinases SAPK2-like and protein phosphatases "StPP1"), transcriptional and post-transcriptional gene regulation (RNA-binding proteins), sucrose synthesis and transporter families (UGPase, Sus3, SuSy, and StSUT1) and PVY resistance (Ry sto).
