  • Hereditary fructose intolerance (HFI) is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by mutation in the ALDOB gene, which leads to aldolase B deficiency. Fructose ingestion results in accumulation of substrates fructose 1-phosphate and fructose 1,6-biphosphate, leading to impairment of glycolytic and gluconeogenic pathways(1,2) . Patients with HFI typically present with vomiting, hypoglycemia, hepatomegaly, acute liver failure, renal tubular dysfunction and failure to thrive(1,2) .
    Endometriosis is a multifactorial pathology dependent on intrinsic and extrinsic factors, but the immune deregulation seems to play a pivotal role. In endometriosis-associated infertility, this could raise the benefit of immunomodulatory strategies to improve the results of ART. In this review, we will describe (1) sera and peritoneal fluid cytokines and immune markers; (2) autoantibodies; and (3) immunomodulatory treatments in endometriosis with infertility.

    Several studies analyzed the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines in sera and peritoneal fluid of endometriosis-athese immune deregulations are poorly studied, and well-designed studies are necessary.
    The influence of aligners on the activity of the masticatory muscles is still controversial, especially regarding the behaviour associated with awake bruxism (AB).

    To compare the frequency of AB behaviours between patients treated with aligners and fixed appliances.

The most frequent behaviour was slightly touching the teeth, and in FA group, there was a significant reduction in this behaviour soon after appliance placement. The groups did not differ concerning the degree of anxiety, stress, catastrophising, hypervigilance and facial pain.

Despite extensive research into its pathology, there are no clinically approved neuroprotective treatments for ICH. Increasing evidence has revealed that inflammatory responses mediate the pathophysiological processes of brain injury following ICH. Experimental ICH was induced by direct infusion of 100 μL fresh (non-heparinized) autologous whole blood into the right basal ganglia of Sprague-Dawley rats at a constant rate (10 μL/min). The simvastatin group was administered simvastatin (15 mg/kg) and the combination therapy group was administered simvastatin (10 mg/kg) and ezetimibe (10 mg/kg). Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the forelimb use asymmetry test, the Morris water maze test, and two biomarkers were used to evaluate the effect of simvastatin and combination therapy. MRI imaging revealed that combination therapy resulted in significantly reduced perihematomal edema. Biomarker analyses revealed that both treatments led to significantly reduced endothelial inflammatory responses. The forelimb use asymmetry test revealed that both treatment groups had significantly improved neurological outcomes. The Morris water maze test revealed improved neurological function after combined therapy, which also led to less neuronal loss in the hippocampal CA1 region. In conclusion, simvastatin-ezetimibe combination therapy can improve neurological function, attenuate the endothelial inflammatory response and lead to less neuronal loss in the hippocampal CA1 region in a rat model of ICH.
    To create a model for prediction of success of uterine-preserving procedures in women with placenta accreta spectrum (PAS).

    PAS-ID is a multicenter study that included 11 centers from 9 countries. Women with PAS, who were managed between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2019, were retrospectively included. Data were split into model development and validation cohorts, and a prediction model was created using logistic regression. Main outcome was success of uterine preservation.

    Out of 797 women with PAS, 587 were eligible. Uterus-preserving procedures were successful in 469 patients (79.9%).     Treatment of complex upper end tibial fractures has always been a challenge to orthopaedic surgeons. Though the roentgenogram results are satisfactory, the clinical and functional outcomes especially in terms of squatting/cross-leg sitting after long term follow-up are little known. Hence, we have done this study with a primary aim to assess the clinico-radiological and functional outcomes after operative fixation (mostly by locking plates) in complex upper end tibial fractures and a secondary aim to analyze correlation between functional outcome scores/range of motion (ROM) and the ability to squat & sit cross-legged in post-operative period.

    This prospective study included a total of 33 patients who were mainly treated with locking plates. In the follow-up, patients were assessed clinico-radiologically and outcome measurements were determined using the Tegner-Lysholm (T-L) Knee Score. Patients were categorized according to their ability to squat/sit cross-legged and a subgroup analysis was performedamentous balancing thus giving good mid-term outcomes after ORIF/MIPO. However, applicability of the present functional outcome scores in assessing squatting/cross leg sitting remains doubtful. More weightage needs to be given to these activities to evaluate the outcome in South Asian population.

It is assumed that early detection of ovarian cancer could improve patient outcomes. Unfortunately, effective screening methods for early diagnosis of ovarian cancer are still lacking. Extracellular RNAs circulating in human biofluids can reliably be measured and are emerging as potential biomarkers in cancer. In this systematic review, we present 75 RNA biomarkers detectable in human biofluids that have been studied for early diagnosis of ovarian cancer. The majority of these markers are microRNAs identified using RT-qPCR or microarrays in blood-based fluids. A handful of studies used RNA-sequencing and explored alternative fluids, such as urine and ascites. Candidate RNA biomarkers that were more abundant in biofluids of ovarian cancer patients compared to controls in at least two independent studies include miR-21, the miR-200 family, miR-205, miR-10a and miR-346. Amongst the markers confirmed to be lower in at least two studies are miR-122, miR-193a, miR-223, miR-126 and miR-106b. While these biomarkers show promising diagnostic potential, further validation is required before implementation in routine clinical care. Challenges related to biomarker validation and reflections on future perspectives to accelerate progress in this field are discussed.Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a common cause of morbidity and mortality in women with gynecologic malignancies. This practice statement provides clinical data and overall quality of evidence regarding the use of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in this patient population. The scope of this document is limited to DOAC use in gynecologic oncology rather than a broad discussion of VTE prophylaxis and management in general. The following recommendations and examination of extant data are based on DOAC trials conducted primarily in mixed populations with different cancer subtypes. Many of these trials include few, or no, women with gynecologic cancer. However, because there is very limited data in gynecologic cancer-specific populations, the results of these studies represent the best available evidence to support treatment recommendations in our patients. The members of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) Clinical Practice Committee believe that the results of these studies may be extrapolated, with caution, to VTE treatment and prophylaxis for patients with gynecologic cancer.

  • In conclusion, IMUs with high sampling rates are effective in evaluating trunk and hand movement coordination during hitting motion.For years, urban air quality networks have been set up by private organizations and governments to monitor toxic gases like NO2. However, these networks can be very expensive to maintain, so their distribution is usually widely spaced, leaving gaps in the spatial resolution of the resulting air quality data. Recently, electrochemical sensors and their integration with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have attempted to fill these gaps through various experiments, none of which have considered the influence of a UAV when calibrating the sensors. Accordingly, this research attempts to improve the reliability of NO2 measurements detected from electrochemical sensors while on board an UAV by introducing rotor speed as part of the calibration model. This is done using a DJI Matrice 100 quadcopter and Alphasense sensors, which are calibrated using regression calculations in different environments. This produces a predictive r-squared up to 0.97. The sensors are then calibrated with rotor speed as an additional variable while on board the UAV and flown in a series of flights to evaluate the performance of the model, which produces a predictive r-squared up to 0.80.     In conclusion, IMUs with high sampling rates are effective in evaluating trunk and hand movement coordination during hitting motion.For years, urban air quality networks have been set up by private organizations and governments to monitor toxic gases like NO2. However, these networks can be very expensive to maintain, so their distribution is usually widely spaced, leaving gaps in the spatial resolution of the resulting air quality data. Recently, electrochemical sensors and their integration with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have attempted to fill these gaps through various experiments, none of which have considered the influence of a UAV when calibrating the sensors. Accordingly, this research attempts to improve the reliability of NO2 measurements detected from electrochemical sensors while on board an UAV by introducing rotor speed as part of the calibration model. This is done using a DJI Matrice 100 quadcopter and Alphasense sensors, which are calibrated using regression calculations in different environments. This produces a predictive r-squared up to 0.97. The sensors are then calibrated with rotor speed as an additional variable while on board the UAV and flown in a series of flights to evaluate the performance of the model, which produces a predictive r-squared up to 0.80.     To examine whether the excess risks of coronary heart disease (CHD), stroke, dialysis, and lower extremity amputation (LEA) associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) differ across age, sex, and ethnicity in Singapore.

    Using a 10-year administrative data, we matched individuals with T2DM using nearest neighbour matching, to those without, in 12 ratio. To examine whether the excess risks were heterogeneous across age, sex, and ethnicity, we generated interaction terms of age, sex, and ethnicity with T2DM status in Cox proportional hazard (PH) models.

    The main analyses included ~1 million person years, comprising 66,099 and 120,485 individuals with and without T2DM, respectively. The associations of T2DM with CHD and dialysis, split into two time periods to address violation of PH assumption, were higher with older age in short-term but lower with older age in long-term. The association of T2DM with stroke and LEA were lower with older age. The associations of T2DM with CHD and stroke were also consistently higher in women than men. The associations of T2DM with LEA were higher in ethnic Malays than ethnic Chinese.

A comprehensive search of electronic databases including MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, CINAHL (EBSCO), Ageline (EBSCO) and Scopus was performed. The initial search yielded 2809 papers. After removing duplicates and applying study inclusion/exclusion criteria, 34 papers were included in the review. Gait COP has been examined during three tasks normal walking, gait initiation, and obstacle negotiation. The majority of studies examined mean COP position and velocity as outcome measures. Overall, gait in older adults was characterized by more medial COP trajectory in normal walking and lower average anterior-posterior and medio-lateral COP displacements and velocity in both gait initiation and obstacle crossing. Moreover, findings suggest that Tai chi training can enhance older adults' balance control during gait initiation as demonstrated by greater COP backward, medial and forward shift in all three phases of gait initiation. These findings should be interpreted cautiously due to inadequacy of evidence as well as methodological limitations of the studies such as small sample size, limited numbers of 'fallers', lack of a control group, and lack of interpretation of COP outcomes with respect to fall risk.   • This study investigated the multilayer growth and properties of ZnS and MgF2using glancing angle deposition. We used deposition angles of 85° to 89° for ZnS and 70° to 88° for MgF2to obtain the structural properties. The film properties primarily followed Tait's rule with a deposition angle of less than 87° in the vapor flux. However, film growth with a vapor flux angle of 88° to 89° followed the tangent rule. Mathematical and cross-sectional scanning electron microscopy (SEM) examinations found a transition point for the growth mechanisms at 87°, which comes from an extreme angle property for glancing angle deposition. We also performed mathematical derivations for the well-known empirical formula of the tangent rule and its generalized version. To stabilize the interface structure and surface roughness of multilayer structures, film growth at slightly tilted angles is recommended. Based on these results, an optical structure was designed, fabricated, and analyzed for a 550-nm wavelength pass filter on a glass substrate. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd.A study of a hybrid ZnCdSeS/ZnS quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) device fabricated with indium tin oxide (ITO)-free transparent electrodes is presented. Al-doped zinc oxide (AZO) prepared by magnetron sputtering is adopted in anode transparent electrodes for green QLEDs with different sputtering pressures. The Kelvin probe force microscopy measurement shows that AZO has a work function of approximately 5.0 eV. The AZO/poly(ethylene-dioxythiophene)/polystyrenesulfonate (PEDOTPSS) interface can be adjusted by the sputtering pressures, which was confirmed by the hole-only devices. The AZO films with low surface roughness can form a good AZO/PEDOTPSS interface, which can increase the holes' injection, and result in improved charge balance. The maximum current efficiency, luminance and external quantum efficiency of the optimized QLEDs devices under a sputtering pressure of 1 mTorr can achieve values of 50.75 cd/A, 102,500 cd/m2 and 12.94%, respectively. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd.PURPOSE This study demonstrates remote imaging for in vivo detection of radiation-induced tumor microstructural changes by tracking the diffusive spread of injected intratumor UV excited tattoo ink using Cherenkov-excited luminescence imaging (CELI). METHODS Micro-liter quantities of luminescent tattoo ink with UV absorption and visible emission were injected at a depth of 2mm into mouse tumors prior to receiving a high dose treatment of radiation. X-rays from a clinical linear accelerator were used to excite phosphorescent compounds within the tattoo ink through Cherenkov emission. The in vivo phosphorescence was detected using a time-gated intensified CMOS camera immediately after injection, and then again at varying time points after the ink had broken down with the apoptotic tumor cells. ex vivo tumors were imaged post-mortem using hyperspectral cryo-fluorescence imaging to quantify necrosis and compared to Cherenkov-excited light imaging of diffusive ink spread measured in vivo. However, long treatment times and collateral damage to healthy tissues due to high acoustic powers are still challenges for the clinical application of HIFU. One possible strategy to enhance the deposition efficiency of HIFU at the tumor site is to employ magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) as ultrasound absorption agents for the thermal therapy. The objectives of the current study are threefold (i) to examine the effects of MNP features, including the size and volume concentration, on the thermal mechanism of HIFU (ii) to investigate the performance of MNPs as they were exposed to ultrasound fields at different ranges of power and frequency (iii) and to study the interaction mechanism between MNPs and ultrasonic waves during the MNPs-enhanced HIFU process. To this end, we developed an ultrasound-guided HIFU system to conduct an in vitro experimental study on tissue phantoms containing MNPs of different sizes and volume concentrations. A set of HIFU parameters such as temperature rise and the rate of absorbed energy was monitored to examine the role of MNPs during the NPs-enhanced HIFU thermal procedure. Results showed that the MNPs significantly improved the thermal effect of HIFU by enhancing the rate of energy converted to heat and the temperature rise at the focal region. Moreover, it was demonstrated that the increase of MNP size and volume concentration greatly enhanced the HIFU parameters; the effects of MNPs were further improved by increasing the power and frequency of acoustic field.BACKGROUND Oncologists often struggle with managing the complex issues unique to older adults with cancer, and research is needed to identify patients at risk for poor outcomes.     This study investigated the multilayer growth and properties of ZnS and MgF2using glancing angle deposition. We used deposition angles of 85° to 89° for ZnS and 70° to 88° for MgF2to obtain the structural properties. The film properties primarily followed Tait's rule with a deposition angle of less than 87° in the vapor flux. However, film growth with a vapor flux angle of 88° to 89° followed the tangent rule. Mathematical and cross-sectional scanning electron microscopy (SEM) examinations found a transition point for the growth mechanisms at 87°, which comes from an extreme angle property for glancing angle deposition. We also performed mathematical derivations for the well-known empirical formula of the tangent rule and its generalized version. To stabilize the interface structure and surface roughness of multilayer structures, film growth at slightly tilted angles is recommended. Al-doped zinc oxide (AZO) prepared by magnetron sputtering is adopted in anode transparent electrodes for green QLEDs with different sputtering pressures. The Kelvin probe force microscopy measurement shows that AZO has a work function of approximately 5.0 eV. The AZO/poly(ethylene-dioxythiophene)/polystyrenesulfonate (PEDOTPSS) interface can be adjusted by the sputtering pressures, which was confirmed by the hole-only devices. The AZO films with low surface roughness can form a good AZO/PEDOTPSS interface, which can increase the holes' injection, and result in improved charge balance. One possible strategy to enhance the deposition efficiency of HIFU at the tumor site is to employ magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) as ultrasound absorption agents for the thermal therapy. The objectives of the current study are threefold (i) to examine the effects of MNP features, including the size and volume concentration, on the thermal mechanism of HIFU (ii) to investigate the performance of MNPs as they were exposed to ultrasound fields at different ranges of power and frequency (iii) and to study the interaction mechanism between MNPs and ultrasonic waves during the MNPs-enhanced HIFU process. To this end, we developed an ultrasound-guided HIFU system to conduct an in vitro experimental study on tissue phantoms containing MNPs of different sizes and volume concentrations. A set of HIFU parameters such as temperature rise and the rate of absorbed energy was monitored to examine the role of MNPs during the NPs-enhanced HIFU thermal procedure. Results showed that the MNPs significantly improved the thermal effect of HIFU by enhancing the rate of energy converted to heat and the temperature rise at the focal region.     The use of digital biomarker data in dementia research provides the opportunity for frequent cognitive and functional assessments that was not previously available using conventional approaches. Assessing high-frequency digital biomarker data can potentially increase the opportunities for early detection of cognitive and functional decline because of improved precision of person-specific trajectories. However, we often face a decision to condense time-stamped data into a coarser time granularity, defined as the frequency at which measurements are observed or summarized, for statistical analyses. It is important to find a balance between ease of analysis by condensing data and the integrity of the data, which is reflected in a chosen time granularity.

    In this paper, we discuss factors that need to be considered when faced with a time granularity decision. These factors include follow-up time, variables of interest, pattern detection, and signal-to-noise ratio.

    We applied our procedure to real-world data which include longitudinal in-home monitored walking speed. The example shed lights on typical problems that data present and how we could use the above factors in exploratory analysis to choose an appropriate time granularity.

    The effect of pre-analytical factors (sample collection/handling/storage/transportation) on biomarker levels was assessed using freshly collected CSF. Tube type/sterilization was assessed using previously frozen samples. A low-bind false-bottom tube (FBT, Sarstedt) was used for all experiments, except tube types/sterilization experiments. Biomarkers were measured using Elecsys CSF assays.

We use data from the longitudinal Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study (FFCWS), an ongoing birth cohort study representative of children born in large US cities in 2000, and measure BMI, academic achievement, and social context at Years 5, 9, and 15. Estimating multilevel random effects linear regression models of BMI from childhood to adolescence, we find that youth who were exposed to social advantage displayed a negative association between academic achievement and BMI. In contrast, youth exposed to social disadvantage displayed no association between academic achievement and BMI. This difference was observed regardless of race/ethnicity. County-level economic mobility modified the observed relationship, such that youth living in places with low levels of mobility displayed higher BMI associated with high academic performance. The results suggest that the health costs of academic achievement among disadvantaged youth are concentrated in areas with low institutional support for upward mobility. The findings demonstrate that the unequal benefits of educational attainment begin early in life, while living in places that promote upward mobility can help individuals realize the health benefits of their own educational attainment.

Not only can fertility be indirectly affected by EDC disruptions of the HPG axis, but EDCs can also directly affect the menstrual cycle and sperm morphology. In this review, we will discuss the current findings on EDCs that can be inhaled. This review examines effects of exposure to prominent EDCs brominated and organophosphate flame retardants, diesel exhaust, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, cadmium and lead, TCDD, and polychlorinated biphenyls on fertility through alterations that disrupt the HPG axis and fertility through inhalation. Although the studies included herein include multiple exposure routes, all the studies indicate receptor interactions that can occur from inhalation and the associated effects of all compounds on the HPG axis and subsequent fertility.Students have been highly vulnerable to mental health issues during the COVID-19 pandemic, and researchers have shown that perceived stress and mental health problems have increased during the pandemic. The aim of this study was to reveal the prevalence of perceived stress and mental health among students during the pandemic and to explore predictors of stress levels. A cross-sectional study was conducted on a sample of 358 undergraduates from 14 universities in Turkey, including 200 female students (56%). The measurements used in the study were the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item (GAD-7) scale, Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-8), Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), Perception of COVID Impact on Student Well-Being (CI), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), Physical Activity Scale (PA), and a sociodemographic survey. Students reported high perceived stress, mild generalized anxiety, and low satisfaction with life. More than half of the students met the diagnostic criteria of GAD (52%) and depression (63%). Female and physically inactive students had higher PSS-10 levels. A hierarchical linear regression model showed that after controlling for gender and negative CI, anxiety and physical inactivity significantly predicted high perceived stress. The study shows that students' mental health during the pandemic is at high risk.Chemically bleached cotton fabric was treated with phytic acid (PA), chitosan (CH) and urea by means of layer-by-layer (LbL) deposition to impart flame retardant (FR) behavior using only benign and renewable molecules. Flammability was evaluated by measuring limiting oxygen index (LOI) and through vertical flame testing. Biopsied muscle samples, blood samples and expired gas samples were obtained at 0 h and 3 h after exercise. An elevated average amount of total AFs 17.3 ± 1.50 μg/kg was found in pumpkin seeds available without a shell. The results have documented a significant difference in total AFs levels in edible seeds available with shells versus without shells (α = 0.05 & 0.01). At the same time, in later stages, critical COVID-19 patients develop acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), venous thromboembolism (VTE), and multiple organ failure from cytokine storm and coagulation hyperactivity. Primary manifestations of thrombotic events include deep vein thrombosis (DVT), disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) and pulmonary embolism (PE). Initial coagulopathy in COVID-19 patients presents with elevated fibrin degradation products, especially D-dimers. In contrast, late presentations show evidence of prolonged prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin (aPTT), increased platelets, and fibrinogen levels. Diagnosis and monitoring of disease progression are done by regular screening of laboratory parameters, including D-dimer and fibrinogen. Management of coagulopathy in COVID-19 patients is like that of critically ill patients, including thromboprophylaxis. Many studies have confirmed the positive effect of the bandage contact lens (BCL) in corneal diseases, but not many in patients with RCES. The purpose of this study is to investigate the efficacy of the BCL compared with deproteinized calf blood extract eye gel in the initial treatment of RCES.

    Forty-seven patients with RCES treated in our hospital from September 2010 to September 2018 were retrospectively analyzed, including 24 cases (26 eyes) in the bandage contact lenses (BCLs) group wearing bandage contact lens and 23 cases (24 eyes) in the drug group treated with deproteinized calf blood extract eye gel. The efficacy was evaluated after 3 months of treatment, with a mean follow-up time of 21.15 ± 1.71 months in the BCL group and 20.87 ± 1.89 months in the drug group. Corneal erosion resolution, pain relief, visual acuity recovery time, recurrence and complications were observed.

    Aft 6 eyes (6/14, 42.8%) of the drug group. No patient in both groups developed adverse side effects.

    Bandage contact lenses are safe and effective in the initial treatment of RCES. Compared with topical deproteinized calf blood extract eye gel, the use of BCLs can provide a higher cure rate, better pain control, faster visual recovery and lower recurrence rate.

    The gut microbiome has been linked to cognitive function and appears to worsen with aging. Probiotic supplementation has been found to improve the health of the gut microbiome. As such, it is possible that probiotic supplementation may protect the aging brain. The current study examined the cognitive benefits of probiotic supplementation (

Anti-biofouling coatings can be stable and sustainable over the long term on the tooth surface in the complex oral environment. In this review, numerous anti-biofouling coatings on the tooth surface and hydroxyapatite (as the main component of dental hard tissue) were summarized based on their mechanisms, which include three major strategies antiprotein and antibacterial adhesion through chemical modification, contact killing through the modification of antimicrobial agents, and antibacterial agent release. The results show that none of the rσB domains, unlike rσB, showed binding to a cognate DNA in the presence of a core RNA polymerase. However, both rσB2 and rσB3, like rσB, interacted with rRsbW, and the order of their rRsbW binding affinity looks like rσB > rσB3 > rσB2. Our model is shown to have reasonable predictive capabilities, and the CO2 + O ↔ CO + O2 reaction is found to have a key influence on the dissociation dynamics of CO2 shocked flows, warranting further theoretical studies. We conclude this study with a discussion on the theoretical improvements that are still required for a more consistent analysis of the vibrational/dissociation dynamics of CO2.
    Therapies to interrupt the progression of early coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) remain elusive. Among them, convalescent plasma administered to hospitalized patients has been unsuccessful, perhaps because antibodies should be administered earlier in the course of illness.

    We conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of convalescent plasma with high IgG titers against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in older adult patients within 72 hours after the onset of mild Covid-19 symptoms. The primary end point was severe respiratory disease, defined as a respiratory rate of 30 breaths per minute or more, an oxygen saturation of less than 93% while the patient was breathing ambient air, or both. The trial was stopped early at 76% of its projected sample size because cases of Covid-19 in the trial region decreased considerably and steady enrollment of trial patients became virtually impossible.

    A total of 160 patients underwent randomization. In the intention-t-titer convalescent plasma against SARS-CoV-2 to mildly ill infected older adults reduced the progression of Covid-19.
