A cross-sectional study was performed in March 2019. Knowledge was evaluated by means of an ad hoc questionnaire-survey with two dichotomous questions about concepts related to low vision and blindness, followed with a list of 10 true-or-false statements. Readability of two on-topic online texts of different complexity was evaluated asking participants to rate the difficulty they experienced on a Likert scale and, objectively, by means of the freeware INFLESZ Readability Scale for Spanish language. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, t-tests, and ANOVA test (statistical significance p < 0.05).
Fifty-two percent of 103 participants declared never having heard of low vision. Ninety-four percent participants were aware about the word blindness, although most of them misinterpreted it. Neither academic level nor age influenced knowledge (p > 0,05). Higher academic level was related to better readability scores of the complex online text (p < 0.05).
Overall, the general public has a limited awareness of low vision and a large misconception of blindness. Therefore, visual health education actions should aim at fostering knowledge and literacy on the issue. This strategy may encourage individuals to seek the advice of eye care providers in order to prevent and treat visual impairment, with relevant consequences in time, both in terms of quality of life and costs.

The development of the tool started with a conceptualization phase, followed by the design, pilot testing and psychometric validation of the questionnaire. The construct validity was assessed. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were carried out to explore the construct validity of the questionnaire. The normed fit index (NFI), root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA), chi square test and comparative fit index (CFI) were used to test the goodness-of-fit. Reliability was explored through Cronbach's alpha for internal consistency.
A total of 973 parents completed the 119 items of the Necesidades de salud de la Población Infantil (NPI) questionnaire for the psychometric validation stage. The EFA identified seven factors Lifestyles, Promotion of healthy lifestyles and influence of significant persons, Children's socioemotional aspects, Parents' socioemotional aspects, Parental self-efficacy, Situational influences, Professional advice. All the factors showed good internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha >0.7). The CFA showed good adjustment to the model (RMSEA = 0.048). The values of NFI and CFI were 0.741 and 0.779 respectively.

Discussions about pancreaticojejunostomy (PJ), which can reduce the incidence of postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) in pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD), are ongoing. Here we introduce the surgical technique of PJ performed at our hospital and analyze its safety and advantages.
We retrospectively analyzed 122 patients who underwent one-layer PJ using reinforcing sutures in PD. PJ was performed with reinforcing sutures on the pancreatic stump, including the insertion of a soft silastic catheter for internal drainage followed by suturing of the pancreas and jejunum with one layer.
Of the 122 patients who underwent PJ with this technique, 62 (50.8%) developed POPF. However, 37 (30.3%) had grade A that did not affect the hospital course. Critical POPF occurred in 25 patients grade B in 20 (16.4%) and grade C in 5 (4.1%). There was no significant difference in the critical POPF patient group according to the pancreas related disease related to pancreatic texture.
Although this technique cannot prevent POPF, we noted no significant difference in POPF versus other surgical techniques. In addition, this technique, which was designed to increase pancreatic texture, is practical and simple for PJ. Therefore, the inexperienced hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgeon can perform it without major complications.

There is currently no accurate profile of the economic burden of dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), particularly any examination of the direct medical costs of DLB by the number of affected clinical domains. Understanding how trends in the use of healthcare resources evolve as DLB progresses presents opportunities for the development of earlier and more appropriate interventions.

Despite the availability of global guidelines on influenza vaccination in adults, country-specific guidelines based on regional variation in disease burden are required for better disease management in India. With this aim, the Indian Chest Society and National College of Chest Physicians of India jointly conducted an expert meeting in January 2019. The presence of well-isolated 2D heteropolyhedral layers in the title compound suggests low-dimensional magnetic behavior which is masked, however, by the fierce competition between multiple ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic exchange interactions. The optical properties show a strong absorption in the ultraviolet region, the band gap energy Eg is found to be 3.15 eV. As such, the phase rarely appears on phase diagrams of the group VB transition metal carbides. There is currently renewed interest in this phase, as tantalum carbide composites exhibit high fracture toughness in the presence of this phase. This work extends the initial computational study using density functional theory of the phase stability of the zeta phase in the tantalum carbide system, where the tantalum carbide zeta-phase crystal structure and stability were determined, to the niobium and vanadium carbides. It is shown that the zeta phases in the three systems share the same crystal structure and it is an equilibrium phase at low temperatures. The carbon atom ordering in the three different phases is explored and it is demonstrated that the zeta phase in the tantalum carbides prefers to order carbon atoms differently than in the niobium and vanadium carbide zeta phases.

However, evidence suggests that immigrants in the United States do not access mental health services to the same extent as nonimmigrants. In particular, immigrant adolescents and young adults may have unique stressors related to their developmental stage, experiences in school and with peer groups, and shifting roles within family systems. This scoping review summarizes findings from published research studies and practitioner-focused gray literature about the mental health needs of immigrant communities in the United States. The review finds that specific mental health needs vary across factors like age, racial/ethnic group, immigration status, and place of residency. Findings also indicate that structural factors like immigration-related laws affect both access to mental health services and stressors in the overall environment for immigrants and their families. This review also explores models of community-level initiatives that utilize strengths-based approaches to promoting mental health and well-being among immigrant communities. Findings highlight the need for a better understanding of the mental health needs and current barriers to care among diverse immigrant populations, as immigration continues to play a major role in U.S. public policy and discourse. The COVID-19 pandemic taking place as this article goes to press in 2020 also raises questions regarding health equity and access for marginalized populations, including immigrants and their communities, and so these findings also indicate the need for further interdisciplinary research to assess intersections among the pandemic's many impacts, including those related to mental health and well-being.
We evaluated the lipid-lowering (LL) effect of proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 inhibitors (PCSK9i) in patients with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH) treated with LL-drugs and lipoprotein apheresis (LA).
The PCSK9i treatment (evolocumab 420 mg/4 weeks, alirocumab 150 mg/2 weeks, or alirocumab 75 mg/2 weeks 9, 6, and 2 patients, respectively) was initiated in patients with HeFH (n = 17; aged 35-69 years, 10 men, previously treated with statins + ezetimibe ± colesevelam and LA sessions for 2-12 years). A lipid profile was obtained before and immediately after the LA session and before, 1 and 2 months after switching to PCSK9i treatment. The duration of PCSK9i therapy ranged from 3 to 18 months.
Median total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and triglycerides (TG) levels before LA were 268, 198, 46, and 126 mg/dL, respectively, and decreased (at the end of the LA session) to 117, 50, 40, and 51 mg/dL, r in patients previously on LA.
PCSK9i can reduce LDL-C more consistently over time compared with a transient decrease following LA in HeFH patients. PCSK9i therapy may reduce the frequency of LA. However, anthracycline use is limited due to its cardiotoxic effects. Recent studies have shown that Platycodon grandiflorum (PG) protects the heart from anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity. However, no randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial has been performed to investigate the clinical use of PG to prevent anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity. This study aimed to evaluate the cardioprotective effects and safety of PG in early breast cancer patients receiving anthracycline-based chemotherapy. Methods A total of 125 early breast cancer patients receiving anthracycline-based chemotherapy were enrolled and randomized into a PG group or placebo group in a 11 ratio. Results Only 2 (3.1%) participants in the placebo group and 1 (1.6%) participant in the PG group experienced NYHA (New York Heart Association) class III or IV heart failure. There were no significant differences observed between the 2 groups.

The widespread and improper use of carbapenems can lead to epidemics that are difficult to control, especially in intensive care units because of the acquired resistance to this group of antibiotics. Outbreaks and sporadic cases caused by carbapenem resistant K.pneumoniae (CRKP) species have been reported all over the world in recent years with increased frequency. The aim of this study was to determine the risk factors related to carbepenem resistance and mortality caused by K.pneumoniae infections in a university hospital anesthesia intensive care unit. The study was conducted between January 1st, 2016 (CI)= 2.027-180.133; p= 0.010] and aminoglycoside (OR= 12.189; 95% CI= 1.256-118.334; p= 0.031) was an independent risk factor in terms of CRCP among the patients with K.pneumoniae infection. The 28-day mortality rates were 71.9% in the CRKP group (23/32) and 37.5% in the CSKP group (21/56). Presence of CRKP in terms of 28-day mortality (OR= 5.146; 95% CI= 1.839-14.398; p= 0.002) was an independent risk factor. C.difficile infections have become a major health problem for many countries. The rate of antimicrobial resistant C.difficile isolates is rapidly increasing all around the world. Yet there is limited data on this subject in our country. The aim of this study was to determine the antimicrobial susceptibility profiles of C.difficile strains isolated from stool samples in Marmara University Pendik Training and Research Hospital Microbiology Laboratory. A total of 93 toxigenic C.difficile, defined by serological and molecular techniques, were included in this study. Antimicrobial susceptibility profiles of isolates were determined by using agar dilution method according to the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI; M11-A7). The following antimicrobials commonly used for the treatment of C.difficileIC90 values of tigecycline, erythromycin linezolid, doxycycline were 0.125-0.25 mg/L, 1-2 mg/L, 2-2 mg/L, 0.062- 0.125 mg/L, respectively. This study shows the current antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of C.difficile isolates in our hospital and will also be the reference data for clinical laboratories in our country where anaerobic culture and susceptibility tests are not performed in routine practice. In conclusion, two main antimicrobial agents commonly used in the treatment of C.difficile infections, metronidazole and vancomycin, seem to be effective. In this multicenter study, which could reflect the nation wide results, it was aimed to determine the safety and biosecurity practices of the employee working in medical microbiology laboratories and to reveal the current situation. A total of 1072 personnel working in the Medical Microbiology Laboratory of 23 hospitals (14 medical faculty hospitals, seven ministry of health training and research hospitals and two state hospitals) from different provinces were provided with a questionnaire consisting of 33 questions inquiring about the rules, opinions, attitudes and behaviors regarding safety and biosafety practices. Statistical analyses were made with institutions, age groups, gender, educational background, working time and occupational groups in terms of exposure to biological and chemical hazards. It was determined that approximately 50% personnel of the university/ training change the behavior.

To develop tailored patient safety improvement programs in this setting, it is essential to know the perspectives of the pharmacies' staffs on patient safety. Between January and August of 2019, we conducted a cross-sectional study among staff working in the community pharmacies in Saudi Arabia. Analyses were performed with descriptive statistics (frequency/percentages), Fisher's Exact test, Chi-square analysis, and multivariable ordinal logistic regression with proportional odds model analysis.
PSOPSC data from 805 community pharmacies in Saudi Arabia were received (response rate 78%). The overall average positive response rate for the 11 dimensions of the PSOPSC survey was 60.2%, with a range from 34.8% in the dimension of Staffing, Work Pressure, and Pace to 76.4% in the dimension of Teamwork. Most participants responded positively, as in total, 504 (62.6%) of the participants rated their pharmacy as 'excellent' or 'very good' on patient safety. Gender and work experience in a pharmacy were important predictors of the overall patient safety grade.
The study revealed that all dimensions are scope for further improvement, and critical consideration ought to be given to the areas of weakness, for the most part in the dimension of Staffing, Work Pressure, and Pace.

The aim of this study was to determine the risk factors related to carbepenem resistance and mortality caused by K.pneumoniae infections in a university hospital anesthesia intensive care unit. The study was conducted between January 1st, 2016 (CI)= 2.027-180.133; p= 0.010] and aminoglycoside (OR= 12.189; 95% CI= 1.256-118.334; p= 0.031) was an independent risk factor in terms of CRCP among the patients with K.pneumoniae infection. The 28-day mortality rates were 71.9% in the CRKP group (23/32) and 37.5% in the CSKP group (21/56). Presence of CRKP in terms of 28-day mortality (OR= 5.146; 95% CI= 1.839-14.398; p= 0.002) was an independent risk factor. The aim of this study was to determine the antimicrobial susceptibility profiles of C.difficile strains isolated from stool samples in Marmara University Pendik Training and Research Hospital Microbiology Laboratory. A total of 93 toxigenic C.difficile, defined by serological and molecular techniques, were included in this study. Antimicrobial susceptibility profiles of isolates were determined by using agar dilution method according to the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI; M11-A7). The following antimicrobials commonly used for the treatment of C.difficileIC90 values of tigecycline, erythromycin linezolid, doxycycline were 0.125-0.25 mg/L, 1-2 mg/L, 2-2 mg/L, 0.062- 0.125 mg/L, respectively. A total of 1072 personnel working in the Medical Microbiology Laboratory of 23 hospitals (14 medical faculty hospitals, seven ministry of health training and research hospitals and two state hospitals) from different provinces were provided with a questionnaire consisting of 33 questions inquiring about the rules, opinions, attitudes and behaviors regarding safety and biosafety practices. Nevertheless, for some patients remission cannot be achieved following current treatment recommendations, defined as resistant CSU (r-CSU). Treating r-CSU is challenging, and, currently, there are no recommended interventions. In this real-life study we describe successful therapy of 18 r-CSU patients using an "intensified protocol" of anti-IgE-antibody (omalizumab) concomitantly with an immunosuppressant. We defined the r-CSU phenotype and compared it to omalizumab-responsive CSU (Or-CSU) phenotype.
Clinical and serological data of 72 CSU patients (ie, 18 r-CSU and 54 age and sex matched Or-CSU) were retrospectively collected and analyzed. All patients were diagnosed with CSU for ≥6 months and treated at the Sheba Medical Center during 2013-2018.
Of 289 CSU patients, 18 (6%) were diagnosed with r-CSU and treated with the "intensified protocol" including omalizumab and cyclosporin omalizumab and an immunosuppressive agent was found to be efficacious and safe for r-CSU. Treatment of allergic rhinitis and asthma is sub-optimal in a significant proportion of cases due to multiple factors relating to unaffordability to buy medications, low national gross domestic product, religious beliefs, myths and stigma regarding chronic ailment, illiteracy, lack of allergy specialists, and lack of access to allergen-specific immunotherapy for allergic rhinitis and biologics for severe asthma. High quality allergen extracts for skin tests and adrenaline auto-injectors are currently not available in India. Higher postgraduate specialist training programmes in Allergy and Immunology are also not available. Another major challenge for the vast majority of the Indian population is an unacceptably high level of exposure to particulate matter (PM)2.5 generated from traffic pollution and use of fossil fuel and biomass fuel and burning of incense sticks and mosquito coils. This review provides an overview of the burden of allergic disorders in India. It appraises current evidence and justifies an urgent need for a strategic multipronged approach to enhance quality of care for allergic disorders. This may include creating an infrastructure for education and training of healthcare professionals and patients and involving regulatory authorities for making essential treatments accessible at subsidised prices. It calls for research into better phenotypic characterisation of allergic disorders, as evidence generated from high income western countries are not directly applicable to India, due to important confounders such as ethnicity, air pollution, high rates of parasitic infestation, and other infections.

However, an electroencephalogram (EEG) shows that the child is in status epilepticus. We report the case of a five-year-old male who presented with difficulty to maintain sitting posture, and inability to stand and walk without support, following viral encephalitis at the age of one year. He had motor, visual, speech and cognitive impairment along with a seizure disorder. The physiotherapy interventions including neurodevelopmental treatment (NDT) and sensory integration (SI) helped in regaining locomotion ability in the child. The study aims to assess the impact of physiotherapy interventions on regaining locomotor ability in a child with FIRES following infective encephalitis.The COVID-19 pandemic is currently causing widespread infection and deaths around the world. Since the identification of the first case in Nigeria in February 2020, the number of confirmed cases has risen to over 9,800. Although pregnant women are not necessarily more susceptible to infection by the virus, changes to their immune system in pregnancy may be associated with more severe symptoms. Adverse maternal and perinatal outcomes have been reported among pregnant women with COVID-19 infection. However, literature is scarce on the peripartum management and pregnancy outcome of a pregnant woman with COVID-19 in sub-Saharan Africa. We report the first successful and uncomplicated caesarean delivery of a pregnant woman with COVID-19 infection in Nigeria.

It is the position of the AASM that a critical need exists to evaluate the roles of sleep disruption, sleep deprivation, and circadian misalignment in physician well-being and burnout. This initiative has increased communication and engagement amongst members of the PPRC and private payers, creating opportunities to advocate on behalf of sleep medicine providers and patients with sleep disorders, encouraging payers to modify existing policies so that evidence-based care is provided to patients with sleep disorders. © 2020 American Academy of Sleep Medicine.STUDY OBJECTIVES Low serum vitamin D levels are known to be associated with working conditions and poor sleep, but precedent studies on this issue were limited by the absence of objective sleep measurements or clear distinction between daytime and night shift work. Hence, we aimed to examine serum vitamin D levels and sleep in daytime and night-shift workers using actigraphy. METHODS A total of 412 night-shift and 432 daytime workers at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital were recruited. All participants completed questionnaires regarding demographic and clinical characteristics. They underwent blood tests for serum vitamin D levels. Objective sleep data were obtained from 150 night-shift workers and 203 daytime workers using actigraphy. RESULTS There was no significant difference in serum vitamin D levels between night-shift and daytime workers after controlling for possible confounders. In daytime workers, vitamin D deficiency was closely related to shorter duration of total sleep time [odds ratio (OR) 3.07, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.51 - 6.26, P = 0.002] and higher risk of excessive daytime sleepiness (OR 2.20, 95% CI 1.30 - 3.74, P = 0.003). Deficient vitamin D was also associated with life quality impairment regarding psychological health (OR 1.83, 95% CI 1.07 - 3.29, P = 0.028) and social relationship (OR 1.78, 95% CI 1.10 - 2.88, P = 0.020). However, in night-shift workers, no significant association was observed between serum vitamin D level and sleep parameters, depressive/anxiety symptoms, or quality of life. CONCLUSIONS The modest adverse impact of poor vitamin D status on sleep could be attenuated by substantial shift work-related sleep disturbances in night-shift workers. To investigate the genome-level differences and similarities between catfish-adapted strains in these two species, the complete E. ictaluri 93-146 and E. piscicida C07-087 genomes were evaluated by applying comparative genomics analysis. All available complete (10) and non-complete (19) genomes from five Edwardsiella species were also included in a systematic analysis. Average nucleotide identity and core-genome phylogenetic tree analyses indicated that the five Edwardsiella species were separated from each other. Pan-/core-genome analyses for the 29 strains from the five species showed that genus Edwardsiella members have 9474 genes in their pan genome, while the core genome consists of 1421 genes. This initiative has increased communication and engagement amongst members of the PPRC and private payers, creating opportunities to advocate on behalf of sleep medicine providers and patients with sleep disorders, encouraging payers to modify existing policies so that evidence-based care is provided to patients with sleep disorders. © 2020 American Academy of Sleep Medicine.STUDY OBJECTIVES Low serum vitamin D levels are known to be associated with working conditions and poor sleep, but precedent studies on this issue were limited by the absence of objective sleep measurements or clear distinction between daytime and night shift work. Hence, we aimed to examine serum vitamin D levels and sleep in daytime and night-shift workers using actigraphy. METHODS A total of 412 night-shift and 432 daytime workers at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital were recruited. All participants completed questionnaires regarding demographic and clinical characteristics. They underwent blood tests for serum vitamin D levels. Objective sleep data were obtained from 150 night-shift workers and 203 daytime workers using actigraphy. RESULTS There was no significant difference in serum vitamin D levels between night-shift and daytime workers after controlling for possible confounders. In daytime workers, vitamin D deficiency was closely related to shorter duration of total sleep time [odds ratio (OR) 3.07, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.51 - 6.26, P = 0.002] and higher risk of excessive daytime sleepiness (OR 2.20, 95% CI 1.30 - 3.74, P = 0.003). Deficient vitamin D was also associated with life quality impairment regarding psychological health (OR 1.83, 95% CI 1.07 - 3.29, P = 0.028) and social relationship (OR 1.78, 95% CI 1.10 - 2.88, P = 0.020). However, in night-shift workers, no significant association was observed between serum vitamin D level and sleep parameters, depressive/anxiety symptoms, or quality of life. CONCLUSIONS The modest adverse impact of poor vitamin D status on sleep could be attenuated by substantial shift work-related sleep disturbances in night-shift workers. Further studies might be needed to clarify the beneficial effect of vitamin D supplementation for improving sleep and daytime sleepiness in workers with various working conditions. © 2020 American Academy of Sleep Medicine.The occurrence of physician burnout is widespread among clinicians and academic faculty, who report indicators such as low quality of life and poor work-life balance. Chronic insufficient sleep, whether due to extended work hours, circadian misalignment, or unrecognized sleep disorders, is a critically important risk factor for burnout that is overlooked and under-studied, and interventions to promote healthy sleep may reduce burnout susceptibility among attending physicians. While strategies to reduce burnout among resident and attending physicians have been under-evaluated, evidence suggests a need to address burnout at both individual and organizational levels. Solutions have been offered that are applicable to many stakeholders, including employers; payers; licensing and certification boards; state and federal regulatory agencies; and physicians and researchers. As more studies are undertaken to evaluate how these approaches impact burnout, two questions need to be addressed 1) What is the role of sleep in the crisis of burnout, specifically among attendings, who are particularly under-studied? 2) Is restoration of healthy sleep the fundamental mechanism by which burnout interventions work? To investigate the genome-level differences and similarities between catfish-adapted strains in these two species, the complete E. ictaluri 93-146 and E. piscicida C07-087 genomes were evaluated by applying comparative genomics analysis. All available complete (10) and non-complete (19) genomes from five Edwardsiella species were also included in a systematic analysis. Average nucleotide identity and core-genome phylogenetic tree analyses indicated that the five Edwardsiella species were separated from each other. Pan-/core-genome analyses for the 29 strains from the five species showed that genus Edwardsiella members have 9474 genes in their pan genome, while the core genome consists of 1421 genes. Orthology cluster analysis showed that E. ictaluri and E. piscicida genomes have the greatest number of shared clusters. Of the HER2+ cases, 67 (47.9%) showed high expression of EBP1 (EBP1high) and 73 (52.1%) showed low/no expression of EBP1 (EBP1low/no). EBP1 expression was correlated with AR expression, histological grade, and lymphatic metastasis (p less then 0.001, less then 0.001, and 0.013, respectively). Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed that AR+ and EBP1low/no group had poorer overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) compared with other groups (AR- and EBP1low/no, AR+ and EBP1high, and AR- and EBP1high). No case of acute leukemia was documented among patients with PV/ET presenting with SVT and seven of them (6%) progressed to myelofibrosis. SVT was not associated with lower risk of MF after correction by age and sex. Patients with SVT more frequently died from complications related to hepatic disease, major bleeding, or second cancer, resulting in a 5-year reduction of age- and sex-adjusted median survival. We retrospectively analyzed the efficacy and safety of tocilizumab for the treatment of advanced cGvHD. Eleven patients with severe steroid refractory cGvHD (median age 49; range 21-62 years) that received at least two prior lines of therapy for cGvHD (range 2-8 regimens) were treated with tocilizumab (q4w, dosage 8 mg/kg IV) with a median number of 15 cycles (range 2-31). NIH consensus criteria grading for cGvHD were recorded prior to tocilizumab administration and after 3, 6, and 12 months of therapy. All patients received additional concomitant immunosuppression (IS) but no new IS within the last 4 weeks before start of tocilizumab and response assessment was terminated before start of any new IS. The median number of days between alloHSCT and initiation of tocilizumab therapy was 1033 days. Organs involved at initiation of tocilizumab therapy were skin (100%, all grade 3), eyes (82%), fascia (82%), mouth (64%), lungs (55%), and genitals (18%). Overall, 7/10 patients (70%) showed partial remission, 2/10 patients (20%) showed progressive cGvHD, 1/10 patient (10%) showed mixed response, and 1 patient died due to sepsis before first response assessment 1.5 months after initiation of treatment. Four patients required subsequent new immunosuppressive treatment. Two patients developed bacterial sepsis, one of whom died. The overall survival and relapse-free survival were 82% with an average follow-up of 22 months (range 1.5-52 months). Three study cohorts, the training, internal validation, and external validation cohorts, were created, within which lung adenocarcinomas were divided into two disease-free-survival (DFS)-associated histologic subgroups, the mid/poor and good DFS groups. A comprehensive machine learning- and deep learning-based analytical system was adopted to identify reproducible QIBssions on CT images, was identified as a biomarker to predict disease-free-survival-associated histologic subgroups in lung adenocarcinoma. • An Intensity-Skewness of ≤ 1.5 has high specificity in predicting the mid/poor disease-free survival histologic patient group in both the training cohort and the external validation cohort. • The Intensity-Skewness is a feature that can be automatically computed with high reproducibility and robustness.

The present study was designed to assess the stress responses to a simulation model of the undersea environment that is similar to some undersea working conditions such as submarine rescue, underwater salvage and underwater construction. Restraint, hyperbaric air and immersion were chosen to produce the simulation stress model in rats for four hours. Rats were randomized into five groups control group, restraint (R) group, hyperbaric air (H) group, restraint plus hyperbaric air (RH) group, and restraint plus hyperbaric air plus immersion (RHI) group. The results showed that the responses to the simulation stress model of the undersea environment induced by R, H, RH and RHI involved the upregulated norepinephrine (NE), dopamine (DA) and 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) of the central nervous system (CNS), upregulated adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), corticosterone (CORT) and blood glucose of the neuroendocrine system, upregulated interleukin-1 (IL-1), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) of the immune system, and increased anxiety in rats. Compared with hyperbaric air, restraint tended to activate stronger stress responses. Conclusively, this work established a simulation stress model of the undersea environment induced by restraint, hyperbaric air and immersion. It further provided experimental data of such a model that showed significant activation of the CNS, neuroendocrine and immune systems and anxiety in rats. In this experiment we provided an experimental basis for undersea work such as working aboard a submarine.Objective This study explored the feasibility of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) in the evaluation of the long-term efficacy of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO2) therapy in rats after traumatic spinal cord injury (TSCI) with different degrees of injury. Each group was then randomly divided into TSCI and TSCI+HBO2 subgroups (10 rats per subgroup). Basso Beattie and Bresnahan (BBB) scores and DTI parameters including fractional anisotropy (FA), mean apparent diffusivity (MD), radial diffusivity (RD) and axial diffusivity (AD) were collected at pre-TSCI and at 0, six and 24 hours, and three, seven, 14, 21, 28 and 56 days post-TSCI. On day of presentation, the patient became unresponsive, with perioral cyanosis, rightward gaze and a left facial droop near the end of a platelet transfusion. An emergent non-contrast head CT revealed intracranial air in the right MCA distribution. She was taken to the hyperbaric chamber and was treated with a U.S. Navy Table 6 in a multiplace chamber with no extensions. Ten minutes into the treatment patient became more alert and spontaneously asked questions. The following day she was treated with a U.S. Navy Table 5. Patient had repeat CT of the head, which showed resolution of intracerebral gas and small areas of ischemia in right frontal lobe and right caudate. On hospital day five neurologic exam was normal, with 5/5 strength and no residual deficits. Treating the patient was a concern because patient has a single ventricle, in which the pulmonary artery is connected directly to the vena cava. There is very little data regarding the effects of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO2)therapy on single-ventricle physiology. Only two case reports of three pediatric patients treated with HBO2 for CAGE in a similar setting are known. In these cases the patients had improvements in their symptoms following HBO2. These cases and ours indicate HBO2 is feasible and indicated for CAGE in patients with cyanotic congenital heart disease.Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO2) therapy is an adjunct treatment for diabetic foot ulcers. Since plausible mechanisms of action for this treatment include increased angiogenesis and high tissue oxygen concentrations, concerns about deterioration of retinopathy have been raised. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of HBO2 on visual acuity (VA) and retinopathy in patients with chronic diabetic foot ulcers during a two-year follow-up period. This is a randomized, single-center, double-blinded and placebo-controlled clinical trial evaluating the effects of HBO2 in patients with diabetes mellitus and chronic foot ulcers. All study participants underwent an ophthalmological examination before the first study treatment and then at three, six, 12 and 24 months. Fifty patients with a median age of 67 years were included. Visual acuity was similar between groups and did not change during the two-year observation period. No differences in retinopathy were seen between groups; neither were any differences found in numbers or areas of bleedings, hard exudates, microaneurysms or edemas, nor between groups or visits. New clinically significant macular edema was identified in four eyes in the HBO2 group and in three eyes in the placebo group. In this population of diabetic foot ulcer patients HBO2 seems to be neutral in an ophthalmological perspective. From a retinal point of view, we could not identify any indication of harmful effects of HBO2 on the microvascular bed in the placebo group.

Patient had repeat CT of the head, which showed resolution of intracerebral gas and small areas of ischemia in right frontal lobe and right caudate. On hospital day five neurologic exam was normal, with 5/5 strength and no residual deficits. Treating the patient was a concern because patient has a single ventricle, in which the pulmonary artery is connected directly to the vena cava. There is very little data regarding the effects of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO2)therapy on single-ventricle physiology. Only two case reports of three pediatric patients treated with HBO2 for CAGE in a similar setting are known. In these cases the patients had improvements in their symptoms following HBO2. These cases and ours indicate HBO2 is feasible and indicated for CAGE in patients with cyanotic congenital heart disease.Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO2) therapy is an adjunct treatment for diabetic foot ulcers. Since plausible mechanisms of action for this treatment include increased angiogenesis and high tissue oxygen concentrations, concerns about deterioration of retinopathy have been raised. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of HBO2 on visual acuity (VA) and retinopathy in patients with chronic diabetic foot ulcers during a two-year follow-up period. This is a randomized, single-center, double-blinded and placebo-controlled clinical trial evaluating the effects of HBO2 in patients with diabetes mellitus and chronic foot ulcers. All study participants underwent an ophthalmological examination before the first study treatment and then at three, six, 12 and 24 months. Fifty patients with a median age of 67 years were included. Visual acuity was similar between groups and did not change during the two-year observation period. No differences in retinopathy were seen between groups; neither were any differences found in numbers or areas of bleedings, hard exudates, microaneurysms or edemas, nor between groups or visits. New clinically significant macular edema was identified in four eyes in the HBO2 group and in three eyes in the placebo group. In this population of diabetic foot ulcer patients HBO2 seems to be neutral in an ophthalmological perspective.
